am having a problem with the game when i open the game and i try to go on adventure mode the game just crashes but the time trials work just fine anybody know how to fix it??

So when I open Setup it opens and I can click on install but nothing happens and the window closes again. What am I supposed to do? Would appreciate some help.

does anyone know how to get the music working ingame? It works at start menu and some sound effects play when racing but no music 🙁 all sound files are there in .sd3 format but no music

For those having problem _SETUP.DLL try this method. found on internet.

On Windows 7/8/10/11 64bits I had to do the following to be able to start the installer: Create a folder named C:WindowsSysWOW64InstallShieldsetupdir809 Copy “setup/setupdir/0809/_setup.dll” from the ISO to the folder that was created in the previous line.

Where do I create this folder? On the same place the game is? Because he’s not yet installed so I guess it should be under the “ISO” folder? Could you be a little more precise please? Or maybe you recall where you found the info? Thanks in advance

Thank Biskut for the help, It worrked. But I am going to give more specific solution as I had difficult time following your instruction. what you should do, is going to the drive where you have windows folder (let’s say it‘s C). So you go to C:\Windows\SysWOW64\InstallShield\Setupdir after that you create a folder and name it 0809 (be careful, you should name it exactly like that for the Installation to work). Now after you created the 0809 folder in that specific location, you should copy (_Setup.DLL) file from another 0809 folder located in Game Installation folder to the 0809 folder you created. (That another 0809 folder located exactly in Game Installation Folder then: Setup\setupdir\0809). after that you should be ready to go. I hope this helped. ^_^ Sorry for any inconvenience as English is not my first language.

CANNOT FIND LOCATION FOR PLAY BUTTON; X AND Y LOCATION MUST BE NON ZERO HOW RESOLVE THIS ERROR

Hi there! This game for Windows is missing the _SETUP.DLL file, giving me an Error 103. My antivirus isn’t deleting it, it just doesn’t exist.

Getting an un able to find _SETUP.DLL error (103). I tried all the compatibility options, making sure my anti-virus is off when dl and installing c++ …, none of those changed the porblem. Any gueses?

You guys are fantastic! Ty to the site and its donors. Im so happy I get to play this

is it working for u perfectly? I’m trying..

hey, could you please put the windows version on the missing games list? thanks

yes of course, I’m not sure why it wasn’t on there to begin with

i have donated the windows version of the game, hope you guys got that (and Clifford Phonics is coming soon)

Hey, thanks a lot they should be uploaded today

Thankyou for donating, been ater this for a while

you are welcome mate 🙂

Setup is unable to find _SETUP.DLL, which is needed to complete the installation.

Can you help me?

well, that didn’t happen to me, but um, what version of Windows are you running it on? perhaps try compatibility mode

hi, i have the same problem, _SETUP.DLL is not found 🙁 i tried compatibility mode but it keeps telling me that setup is unable to find it

I think this problem only on windows 10. So… Virtual box with windows 95/98/XP/7

thank you so much!

Storyline [ ]

Jiminy Cricket greets the player and tells a story that he hopes is "sure to make you smile". One morning, Chip and Dale are out gathering acorns in the Magic Kingdom when they discover a small door in the side of Cinderella Castle . After going through the door, they discover the Walt Disney World Magic Machine, a contraption that shoots firework shows every night. When they get close to it, Dale accidentally drops some of the acorns he collected into it, causing it to stop functioning. They run for cover as it explodes, scattering several pieces across the resort. With the help of several park visitors, they race across the resort to find the pieces and reassemble the machine before the show starts that night.

  • Jiminy Cricket

Jiminy is a courteous, gentle storyteller who loves to tell jokes and sing songs. He’s also the most knowledgeable when it comes to racing and Walt Disney World. He taught Chip and Dale everything they know about both. But watch out if he ever ends up behind the steering wheel, because he knows the best routes to use, and every track is his specialty.

  • Chip and Dale

Chip and Dale often race around Walt Disney World collecting nuts for the winter. Now they must collect the Fireworks Machine pieces before the end of the day! Chip is smart and practical, and he uses his brains whenever he races. So be careful, or Chip will sneak past you faster than you can say “acorn”. Dale enjoys life to the fullest, and doesn’t take anything seriously. And though he is a bit scatterbrained, he somehow manages always to be near first place at the end of a race. Call it blind luck or a charmed life, either way Dale is always a force to be reckoned with on the racetrack.

Amanda is the most famous, cutest child actress in the world. It’s no surprise that she absolutely loves being recognized at the Disney Studios. Where else can she continue to work and still have tons of fun on her days off the movie set? She is always sweet and nice and cute...unless she’s behind the wheel! When Amanda is in the driver’s seat, she doesn’t get upstaged! She races to win!

Here’s one girl who has a hard time acting her age! Normally a 13-year old would relate to the Disney Princesses , but alas, she does not. She feels as though the Disney Villains have been hard done by, and that includes her friend, Baron Karlott. This “Queen” is going to make sure everyone else feels the same way...by beating all the racers to the finish line!

Root'n Toot'n Sheriff'n is what he wants to do. He’s spent many a day trying to keep Bruno Biggs under control! This kid mostly moseys around at Big Thunder Mountain Railroad , where the West is still Wild. Moe saunters around at a snail’s pace, but there’s nothing slow about the way he drives!

Otto has spent most of his short life around cars and experiments. It’s a no-brainer to think he would be attracted to Test Track at Epcot . But he’s no crash dummy; he’s one of the smartest kids around. And the rest of the gang love him ‘coz he helps them fix their vehicles! He is the classic educated techie-nerd. Word is he soups up his cars so he can’t lose! Keep an eye on him!

Bruno is a huge fan of the world’s most famous mouse. The more he’s at Walt Disney World, the closer he can be to Mickey . He’s big, and mean, and tough. Don’t mess with him! Bruno is impatient and doesn’t like people getting in his way...especially on the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster , his favorite attraction.

Polly dreams of action and adventure. Captaining her own Spanish galleon and searching for buried treasure is all she can think about. But for now Walt Disney World and history books are her escape. That’s why Polly is an expert at navigating the mysterious waterways of the Pirates of the Caribbean .

Baron is a modern day descendant of the famous Karlott bloodline. He continually strives to keep his ancestors happy, otherwise they come and visit...from the grave. That is why he feels right at home in the Haunted Mansion , and also why he drives with such a “grave” purpose.

The son of a famous explorer and paleontologist, Oliver is proud to walk in his father’s shoes - even though they are a few sizes too big. He figured out that the perfect place to get started on his quest was Animal Kingdom . Oliver is very soft spoken and drives very carefully. But watch out! He may sneak past you on the back straightaways if you aren’t careful!

  • Ned Shredbetter

Ned surfs. Ned skates. Ned snowboards. Ned blades. He basically is an all-round cool dude. Ned also likes showing off his moves for Amanda Sparkle! The only other thing Ned likes just as much as shredding is chilling at Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon . Ned is the classic beach bum, but there’s nothin’ laid back about his driving style...it’s all out!

This Xperimental Utility Duck was built to test out all the attractions at Walt Disney World. Unfortunately, he’s been bounced around and hit in the head a little too much. He prefers to stay in the world of Space Mountain because that’s where he gets his biggest charge. But when he’s out of his element, watch out for his driving...he’s wild, out of control and all over the place!

The soundtrack features authentic Disney music from the attractions, with the exception of Space Mountain, which features music from the Disneyland version (due to the game being released nine years before "Starry-O-Phonic Sound" was installed on Florida's Space Mountain), and the Rock 'n' Roller Coaster, which does not feature Aerosmith as the actual attraction does.

Interestingly, the soundtrack contains at least three holdovers from past Crystal Dynamics games. The music for DINOSAUR is lifted from the Prehistory Channel level of Gex: Enter the Gecko . The music for Blizzard Beach is lifted from Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko , albeit with the portion containing the Gex 3 theme replaced by a section of "Tis the Season to be Jolly". Lastly, the music for the Rock 'n' Roller Coaster is derived from Total Eclipse ’s Aqueous Major, the first level in the game. All of these games have been released on the PlayStation (Total Eclipse was released as "Total Eclipse: Turbo"), a console which it is also on.

  • The player does not need to get 1st place on the Splash Mountain course in order to win the game.
  • To unlock XUD, one must collect all of the fairies in each track. To unlock Ned, one must complete the trophy challenge.
  • Jiminy Cricket, Chip and Dale are the only pre-established characters playable in this game. Every other character is completely original.
  • The cover art used on the European release is likely a previous version of the art. The designs used for Otto and Ned (who is absent from the later cover art) are much different than the ones used in game.
  • Interestingly, a few months later, a Disney racing game was released for Nintendo 64, this being Mickey's Speedway USA . It's possible that Mickey's Speedway USA began conceptually as a Nintendo 64 port of this game but was later changed either because of technical limitations of the Nintendo 64, or because of contractual obligations with developers and publishers, as the Nintendo 64 game was developed by Rare instead of Crystal Dynamics.

How to play walt disney world quest: magical racing tour windows.

Install & play guide:

  • Mount the disc image. You will need the utility for mounting disc image files, like WinCDEmu, UltraISO, Alcohol 52%/Alcohol 102% or Daemon Tools Lite
  • Install the game
  • Also it is recommended to install DirectX from the disc (inside the disc image in "Setup" - "DirectX" folder)
  • Launch the game and play. If the game doesn't run - open the directory with the game and find WDWRacing.exe. Right click on WDWRacing.exe - Properties - Compatibility - Set "Run this app in compatibility mode with Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 2000 or Windows XP" (try different compatibility modes, the game has troubles with launch on 64-bit systems).
  • Also try to launch the game, then open Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del by default) and check for processes WDWRacing.exe and rundll32.exe. Close WDWRacing.exe but don't touch rundll32.exe (it's a Windows app for running old apps from 32-bit operational systems, most old games running through rundll32.exe). Now try to launch the game again, it must work. Don't forget to close rundll32.exe process in Task Manager after finishing playing.
  • The game has been tested on Windows 7 64-bit, works fine. The game supports widescreen

Troubleshooting:

  • Sometimes game may crash in random moments, also the game may freeze when you quit it. In that case just close the game process through Task Manager
  • To avoid possible errors better not to skip in-game videos, including intros (do not press Esc button)
  • During first launch configure keyboard controls, by default there's no selected keys for moving
  • The work on Windows 8 and Windows 10 is not guaranteed. If you installed the game following the instruction but still can not play the game - try this: mount the disc image, copy all the files from the disc to some folder on your hard drive, go to "Setup" - "WDWRacing" - "System" and copy all files from "System" directory to the main "WDWRacing" directory, then launch the game from WDWRacing.exe (keep the disc image mounted in virtual drive). If it still doesn't help - right click on WDWRacing.exe - Properties - Compatibility - "Run this app in compatibility mode with Windows 98" and select boxes "Reduced color mode 16-bit", "Run in 640x480 resolution", "Disable fullscreen optimization" (this method worked on the laptop with integrated Intel video card and Windows 10)
  • If none of the methods worked - use PCem app

Product information, warranty & support, product description, product description.

Catch The Magic! Experience the thrill of WALT DISNEY WORLD Quest - Magical Racing Tour and find all the missing pieces of the Fireworks Machine. Speed around 13 raceways based on popular WALT DISNEY WORLD Theme Parks and Water Parks, including: Space Mountain, Test Track at Epcot and Rock 'n' Roller Coaster.

Though the name may be quite a mouthful, Walt Disney World Quest Magical Racing Tour is a wonderful lighthearted cart-racing game that fans of the genre will surely enjoy. Followers of the world of Disney will also undoubtedly be attracted to the game levels, which are modeled after many of the popular attractions at Walt Disney World. Either way, it's hard to go wrong with WDWQMRT. The story behind the game is that Chip and Dale have accidentally clogged up the Magic Kingdom's fireworks machine with a few accidentally placed acorns. The machine then went haywire and exploded, sending pieces of the machine to nearly every location of the park. It's up to you to race with everyone else in the park and collect pieces of the machine so it can be put back together. You can select from a variety of Disney characters such as Chip and Dale, Moe Whiplash, Bruno Biggs, Otto Plugnut, Polly Roger, and Baron Karlott - just to name a few. The game does have a few other characters that are hidden and that can be unlocked by completing the game. Playing as the Disney character is a lot of fun, but the real treat is exploring the levels you get to race through. All 13 of the game's levels are modeled after the popular rides and attractions within the Magic Kingdom, such as Big Thunder Mountain, the Haunted Mansion, and the Pirates of the Caribbean. Each level is altered so that you can race in and through different parts of the attraction. In addition, most of the levels have specific vehicles that fit the theme of the attraction. For instance, when you reach the Space Mountain track all of the racers pilot little one-man hover/rocket ships. The different vehicles really don't control all that differently, but they add a bit of verity and style. The gameplay of Disney's Magical Racing Tour is straightforward, fun, and involving. It has the typical cart-racing game setup where you race laps around a track and pick up items like teacups and acorns, which you can launch at your opponents. Controlling the carts is very easy - all you really do is steer, accelerate, and break. The only real strategy in the game comes into play when you are trying to take shortcuts or when you are using items. Visually, Magical Racing Tour is very nice. The game moves at a brisk pace and provides a wonderful sense of speed. Moreover, the levels never really pop up in front of you - the point at which the level is drawn in is always far out of view. All of the characters are very detailed and articulated, as are the various vehicles they pilot through the levels. The levels themselves are awesome; when racing, you find yourself being distracted by objects and characters that you've seen before throughout the game. In the audio department, Magical Racing Tour does a great job of re-creating the experience of visiting the park. The game's opening and menu screens are accompanied by the infamous It's a Small World ditty, which gets under your skin just as fast as it does in real life. Each of the levels has the specific music and sound effects that you'd hear if you were actually at the park on the ride. During the Pirates of the Caribbean level, you can hear the individual animatronic characters speaking the lines that have made the ride such a favorite. Disney's Magical Racing Tour on the surface may just seem like another Mario Kart or Crash Team Racing clone, and once you spend any amount of time with the game you'll realize that, at its core, it truly is one. However, with its awesome levels, characters, vehicles, shortcuts, items, overall presentation, and gameplay, Magical Racing Tour has more than enough style - and it offers a different enough experience - to make the game worthwhile. In addition, those that love the world of Disney will find the game to be a surprising treat that is wonderfully fun, not only for its content but also for its gameplay. --Ryan Mac Donald -- Copyright © 1998 GameSpot Inc. Solid Racing Game Mixed With Lame Characters.

The Good There is a lot to like about this game if you're a fan of the Disney Theme Parks. Each track is a faithful adaption of the classic rides that make up the four theme parks in Disney World, complete with music, sound effects, and voice-overs. Players who simply take the time to explore the tracks can find almost all of the familiar landmarks from each ride accurately represented with the familiar animations and one-liners.

The track designs are a lot of fun for a kart racer. While not Mario Kart, the levels offer a lot of diversity in the design and scenery, complete with multiple shortcuts, and power-ups to trip up the other racers. There are a lot of impressive special effects throughout the game, and the backgrounds are busy. Most importantly, the control is tight and responsive. Even with a steering wheel.

The multi-player is solid as well, with a smooth frame rate, even in four-player. This is a fun multi-player game. The Bad I have never seen a Disney game that employs a lamer storyline or character selection choices.

The story is utterly illogical. Chip and Dale spill acorns into the Disney World fireworks machine (do they really have one?), and the parts fly all over the park (those who have been to the Orlando park knows that the blast radius would have to be pretty impressive to accomplish such a feat). So the two chipmunks decide to stage kart races around the resort to win the pieces back. Again, this story defies logic, so don't try to understand this.

The other most glaring flaw is that, with the exception of Chip, Dale and Jiminy Cricket, the new characters created exclusively for this game are incredibly lame. Why they didn't use the hosts and mascots from the different rides is beyond me, as it would have been a much more understandable choice. Why they didn't use ANY familiar Disney characters is beyond me.

And finally, for the Dreamcast version, the music and sound effects are incredibly muted. This can be adjusted properly in the "Options" menu, but the fact that the audio, one of the more impressive aspects of this game, is so muted.... Well, it goes up there with the storyline and character choices. The Bottom Line Despite the heinously lame character choices and ridiculous story, don't be fooled into thinking this is a bad game by any means. It's a very competent Mario Kart clone with great tracks and audio. In single player, there are a lot of hidden items to find. In multi-player, the races are fast and addicting. In any mode, the game is fun.

This is easily recommended to anyone who is a fan of the theme parks, and who enjoy the heated competition of a good kart racer.

In the game, Chip and Dale are wearing their outfits from their Disney Afternoon television show "Chip 'N' Dale Rescue Rangers", which was also a NES game from Capcom in the early 1990's.

Walt Disney World Quest cover

Since 3D Cra zy Coaster graced the Vectrex in 1983 , theme park video games have come in two flavors - simulation and minigame collection. Disney’s done both, from Adventures in the Magic Kingdom on the Nintendo Entertainment System to the Coaster series on PC. There are highs and lows of both styles - Virtual Magic Kingdom , a glorified ad campaign, was so beloved it lives on as a fan-made recreation - but it's the outliers that are most interesting.

Of those few, Walt Disney World Quest: Magical Racing Tour is the farthest afield. It's also a contradiction down to its CD-ROM soul - a one-of-a-kind knockoff.

Without Super Mario Kart , there would be no Mario Kart 64 , but without Mario Kart 64, there would be no kart racing as we know it.

Released in all territories within six months of the Nintendo 64's release, Mario Kart 64 provided the new console with its first multiplayer killer app. Instead of taking impatient turns running around Super Mario 64 , players could now run into three other friends simultaneously. It wasn't just more play for the money - it was free advertising for Nintendo's 3D miracle machine and boy did it work.

Mario Kart 64

Mario Kart 64 remains the second best-selling game of its console and the fourth of its generation. The legacy of the series, twelve releases and four generations later, is unquestionable.

The fallout of the series is a lot easier to question.

What do Smurfs, M&Ms, and the Burger King have in common? They all starred in their own kart racing games, for better or mostly worse. Mario Kart 64 started a licensing gold rush. Every company, ad campaign, and out-of-fashion cartoon with a cast of marketable characters got in on the fun. The best pretenders to the throne came from within the medium - Diddy Kong Racing on Nintendo 64 and Crash Team Racing on PlayStation. Everything else was a crapshoot. Flawed standouts took inspiration from floundering multimedia franchises ( Muppet RaceMania ) and inherently plotless toylines ( Lego Racers ).

And then there’s Walt Disney World Quest: Magical Racing Tour , the only Mario Kart knock-off based on a theme park. Stranger yet, it doesn’t even pass the “cast of marketable characters” test.

If gamers wanted to personally run Donald Duck off the road, they’d have to wait until Christmas 2000 for Mickey’s Speedway USA. The game with Disney in title shipped months earlier with no playable racers more famous than Chip or Dale.

Magical Racing Tour title screen

Given the proximity and blindspots of the titles, it’s not hard to see a contractual symbiosis between Mickey’s Speedway USA and Walt Disney World Quest: Magical Racing Tour .

Speedway was developed by the legendary Rare, then-veterans of Diddy Kong Racing and soon-to-be famous for Banjo-Kazooie , only for the Nintendo 64. It made sense for all parties involved. Disney put its most famous characters in the hands of the most famous kart-racing studio for a stacked-deck debut on the console most famous for kart-racing.

Walt Disney World Quest feels like leftovers by contrast. Chip, Dale, and Jiminy Cricket are the only household names in the roster. Besides his triune silhouette, Mickey Mouse is entirely MIA. Crystal Dynamics, riding high off its Gex series, handled development despite little racing experience. It was eventually released on all major contemporary consoles except the Nintendo 64.

Time and the internet have been kind to Mickey’s Speedway USA , a solid entry in a beloved genre by a beloved developer on a beloved console. It’s the kind of game tailormade for “hidden gem” re-examination, despite critics at the time taking issue with its bland simplicity.

Mickey's Speedway USA box art

Time and the internet both seem to have forgotten Walt Disney World Quest: Magical Racing Tour . Archived reviews only gave it exhausted endorsement - IGN hedged its thumbs-up with, “Nobody NEEDS another Kart racing game.” The occasional YouTuber plays it for a lark now and again. But by and large, Magical Racing Tour doesn’t have nearly the nostalgic prestige of Speedway and that’s an absolute crime.

There may be no greater must-play for Walt Disney World die-hards.

The story centers on a one-off piece of park lore - the Walt Disney World Magic Machine. It looks like a Mary Blair moonlander and makes the fireworks, uh, work. When Chip and Dale, still observing Rescue Rangers dress code, find the contraption behind Cinderella Castle, they do what any self-respecting guests would: stuff it so full of nuts the thing implodes.

Magic Machine blueprints

The quest in Walt Disney World Quest is to find the scattered debris before showtime, wherever it may have landed on property. Fear not, though - there’s no time limit here. The plot’s just an excuse for Eddie Carroll, the longest-serving Jiminy Cricket, to spin the opening cutscene like a fairytale and then get out of the road. The crucial difference between Magical Racing Tour and Speedway , not to mention its knock-off colleagues, is that the courses are the characters.

Walt Disney World Quest: Magical Racing Tour

Rare stole away mickey, but eidos' may have the last smile with its disney kart racer..

Nix Avatar

And yet, could this be a Kart game that controls well? Now that's not something you see everyday... but I do.

If you picked up on that joke as one of the many zingers thrown off on The Jungle Cruise ride at Disneyland, this game is perfect for you. Eidos' Disney Magical Racing Tour may not be a great innovation for videogaming, but as a tour that races through some of the most memorable attractions found in the Magic Kingdom, this game earns a spot in my heart purely for sentimental value. The developers at Crystal Dynamics have nailed every landmark and visual flair of Disney World, while rearranging and enhancing each ride to make for a fast, fun game.

Gameplay Did you know that, somewhere deep in the heart of Disney World, is a spectacular device called the Fireworks Machine that sprays glorious rockets, explosions, and sparklers into the air every night at the end of each Disney day? Neither did I, until I heard that Chip and his bumbling partner Dale accidentally ruined the machine by dropping acorns into it. It blew up into dozens of pieces, and now it's up to Chip 'n Dale to pick up those pieces and rebuild the machine before the night's show. Guess how they're going to get that done? Yep, they've decided to hold a Walt Disney World Quest Magical Racing Tour to collect all the strewn mechanisms and doo-dads!

OK, it's not exactly biblical storytelling. Why this Magical Racing Tour is taking place never really makes sense (and why are there 11 other racers competing against Chip 'n Dale? Why is it that they must hurry before night settles and the firework show begins, yet time never passes in this game and several attractions are set at night? Where's Mickey and the rest of the gang? Yeah, and what about Scarecrow's brain?)

None of that really matters here (although, being a Disney product, you would have expected the story to be rock-solid). The focus of Disney Magical Racing Tour is racing, or rather Disney racing. What's the difference, you ask? In this game, a huge part of the fun comes from the all the detailed work that went into the course design and Disneyesque gameplay. For instance, instead of Banana Peels (or more like the Oil Slicks in Nascar Rumble ), players drop Tea Cups that spin your opponent wildly as they're driving, trapping them in those crazy cups and making them dizzy for a good while. Riding in a real Tea Cup down the street is the dream of every Mouseketeer, and that's finally possible in this game.

It's the track design that just grabs hold of you. Crystal Dynamics has faithfully brought 13 of the most popular Disney attractions to life (they include Space Mountain, Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean, The Jungle Cruise, Tomorrowland Speedway, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Disney's Blizzard Beach, Rock 'n Roller Coaster (at Disney-MGM Studios), the Disney Studios, Test Track (at Epcot), Typhoon Lagoon, the new Animal Kingdom ride for Dinosaur, and Splash Mountain). Each is a near replica of the true ride, but it's now all controllable for gamers who always wanted to freely roam in this amusement park. Remember the opening climb of Space Mountain, where you are being shot through a portal of light and color into outer space? That same experience is here, only this time you are driving that rocket ship, running over dozens of Zippers to boost speed for your final ascension into space!

Generally, the courses are not perfect recreations of the rides. The models used in the tracks are not millimeter-by-millimeter mock-ups. Rather, they are stylized versions of Disney World's attractions, built for speed and fun while retaining the bliss of riding these classic rides. The Haunted Mansion race begins outside the mansion doors, where you break into the doors and storm through twisting halls, up gothic staircases, and through mysterious curtains that reveal hidden shortcuts. It's like the real thing, just redone for a game (even the mirror ghosts are there at the end of each lap).

To be perfectly honest, if you don't like Disney, you probably won't like this game as much as I did. Then again, if you're not in with The House of the Mouse then you probably wouldn't like a good Kart game anyway. Disney Magical Racing Tour never breaks the mold in the Kart racing genre -- the addition are Fairies on the track that give you good luck by making CPU opponents more prone to mistakes was brilliant, but otherwise this is nothing new. It is super fast, which is very nice, and combining that with great tracks makes this game lots of fun to race. Also, each track's vehicle has been brought into the game, and while they don't steer too much differently, the ability to race boats, rocket ships, and doom buggies is awesome.

My only complaint would be that this game may be too hard for its target audience. The challenge is set so high (and without a setting for difficulty) that little kids and even their parents will have a hard time finishing the Adventure mode. It's still fun to play around, but placing first is just too hard!

Graphics Again, the pride of this game isn't in the quality but rather the approach and Disney style used. That's not to say there isn't plenty of quality in the graphics of this game -- in fact, sometimes it's downright beautiful, and even when the game's only turning on half the charm, it still looks colorful and exciting.

As always, the vast charm of this game is the Disney license. Racing through Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and spotting all the hidden Mickeys (those landmarks that just happen to be shaped like a pair of mouse ears) is great fun. Crystal Dynamics has also brought the stages to life, animating every mile of the track. Animatronic dinosaurs growl at your driver as you zoom past, while surly pirates carry on with their looting while the race rages behind them. You may even spot Bubbles the hippo in the Jungle Cruise (however, I haven't seen the backside of water yet, and that's a real heartbreaker for me!)

We being strict critics, however, I must point out that the game is a little ragged looking. Sometimes the visuals are breathtaking (and always enchanting due to the Disney theme), but other times the graphic engine is running on empty. The main textures are fair throughout, but the resolution is very low for the sake of speed. Also, the special effect animated textures (which are used to enliven the game even more when there are no creatures on screen) are just awful. At the beginning of Dinosaur, you begin in a time tunnel and leap out into the past. However, the effect is done with just two-frame cycling textures. Passing through the time continuum seems like a polygon error. Had Crystal Dynamics added a screen-warping effect, it would have worked, but here it just looks like a placeholder graphic. Weak effects and other problems are sloppy, but the overall style more than makes up for it.

Sound The best part of this game is the authentic version of the Grim Grinning Ghosts theme played in the Haunted Mansion track. Hands down, that's reason enough to buy this game for many Disney fans. Eidos has licensed the tracks of Disney World's rides and incorporated them into the game, making every race a trip down Memory Lane. If the songs had been included in Redbook audio, this would have been a must-own for any Disney fan, since these tunes have rarely been heard outside of the park, and the few exclusive records and CDs released with the tracks are hard to come by.

Unfortunately, Eidos doesn't follow the logic of the ride with their music. If Eidos had been able to have the whole music tracks in the game, and mixed them on the fly (like Disney does by spacing music cues out on different speakers and placing walls to separate parts of the ride to orchestrate the music) so that the game sounds like the ride, this would have been amazing. Instead, they selected one short segment of the musical tracks and continued the loop of that piece, rather than linking musical segments like the ride does. You don't get the full experience -- instead, you get to feel what it's like when the ride breaks down and you're stuck right next to a speaker. Thankfully, you don't have to endure It's A Small World in the same way (that song has been known to drive riders clinically insane), and the music segments are generally chosen well, but some tracks still get annoying after a few laps. Splash Mountain's five-story drop just isn't the same without the chorus of doom howling as you drop.

Sound effects are also well mixed and used. The engine sounds are nothing to crow about, but they're not irritating, and that says a lot for a Kart game. It's the cartoon sound effects that make the audio of this game so bright. Disney voices are used throughout (and the new characters, while hardly worth getting this game over, have that true Disney quality). Also, sound effects are done carefully -- slamming into a wall will produce a crash sound, but just gleening off of it in a corner will produce a rubber "Boing!"

I shouldn't be recommending this. Nobody NEEDS another Kart racing game. But I am recommending it, almost highly. As a Kart racing game, it's nothing extraordinary, but as a Disney collector's item, it works wonders. When I first heard of this game, I thought for sure it would never work, that it wouldn't be as fun as the real thing. Of course, nothing could be that great (I feel like a little boy all of the sudden!), but this game works on just enough levels that it's worth the ride. Bottling the magic of Disneyland is rare in a licensed product, but that essence is here in Disney Magical Racing Tour.

Walt Disney World Quest: Magical Racing Tour

Walt Disney World Quest: Magical Racing Tour is a racing game developed by Crystal Dynamics (with LTI Gray Matter developing the Windows port) and published by Eidos Interactive . The game is based on the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida and features several tracks based on Walt Disney World attractions and thirteen playable racers; Chip, Dale (both appearing in their Rescue Rangers outfits), Jiminy Cricket , and ten original characters made for the game.

The game was released for Windows on January 24, 2001.

The game has been out-of-print for years, likely due to the constant changes to the resort since; some of the depicted attractions such as Test Track and Splash Mountain have either been refurbished or permanently closed since the game's release.

Walt Disney World Quest: Magical Racing Tour is a kart-racing video game released in 2000 for PlayStation , Dreamcast , and Game Boy Color , and 2001 for Microsoft Windows . The PlayStation and Windows versions were developed by Crystal Dynamics , while the Dreamcast and Game Boy Color versions were developed by Prolific Publishing; all versions were published by Eidos Interactive .

As the name implies, the game takes place in the Walt Disney World Resort. The game features an adventure mode (the "Quest" that the title alludes to) narrated at the beginning by Jiminy Cricket . He says that backstage at the Magic Kingdom, there's a magical machine that produces the amazing fireworks that go off every night. One morning, the ever-curious chipmunks Chip 'n Dale found the machine, but got a little too close to it; Dale dropped some of their acorns into the machine, ruining the machinery and causing it to explode, and the parts spread all over Walt Disney World. It's up to you, Chip, and Dale, to find all the parts of the machine and put it back together before the fireworks begin at night.

Unlike most other licensed Disney games, most of the playable characters are original , with only the aforementioned Chip, Dale, and Jiminy Cricket appearing. Disney refused to let any other characters appear, which led to the creation of new characters who've never been seen before or since. While the lack of established characters was a common criticism, the expies do have their fans.

The game's tracks are inspired by the following attractions:

Magic kingdom.

  • Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
  • The Haunted Mansion
  • Jungle Cruise
  • Space Mountain
  • Splash Mountain
  • Tomorrowland Speedway
  • Pirates of the Caribbean

Disney Studios Florida note  then actually named Disney–MGM Studios, today named Disney's Hollywood Studios

  • Disney Studios
  • Rock 'n' Roller Coaster

Disney's Animal Kingdom

Water parks.

  • Blizzard Beach
  • Typhoon Lagoon

TV Tropes Quest: Magical Troping Tour:

  • Adaptation Distillation : Chip and Dale are based on their classic appearances personality-wise, but their designs use their Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers outfits.
  • Adventurer Outfit : Oliver Chickly III's got the pith helmet, cargo shorts, and boots.
  • Artistic License – Geography : Walt Disney World is compressed in the console and PC versions to fit all the parks and the drivable tracks on one selection screen, cutting out roads, most unplayable attractions, the resorts, Bay Lake, Disney's River Country, note  which ceased operation the same year that the PC version was released and Downtown Disney (today Disney Springs). Additionally, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is inexplicably moved to Mickey's Toontown Fair note  today the Storybook Circus sub-area of Fantasyland north of Tomorrowland on the east side of Magic Kingdom Park.
  • Bewitched Amphibians : One Power-Up you can get is The Frog Spell; using it turns all your opponents into slow-hopping frogs. It wears off after a few seconds.
  • Bonus Stage : Test Track, Typhoon Lagoon, and Disney Studios essentially serve as this. They are not standard race tracks, but rather courses where you have to drive around a small open area collecting thirty coins within a time limit. Completing them earns the player a trophy in the form of a car wheel, a life preserver, and a clapperboard, respectively.
  • Character Catchphrase : Jiminy Cricket introduces himself with his iconic introduction, " Cricket's the name, Jiminy Cricket! "
  • Oh, and the AI will spam this item a minimum of twice per race, often within seconds of the last one wearing off. The player will be lucky to just get this item once per race. Picking up Lucky Fairies during the race can help increase your chances of getting better items; better make sure you get them before your opponents do!
  • Dressed to Plunder : Polly Roger, who feels right at home at Pirates of the Caribbean . She's definitely on the side of good , though.
  • Excuse Plot : The story is only explained at the beginning of adventure mode and used as a set-up as to why you're driving karts all around Walt Disney World. How racing around and collecting coins is supposed to fix a fireworks machine is anyone's guess.
  • Extremely Short Timespan : The events of Adventure mode take place in the course of one day at Walt Disney World, as reflected by the changing sky in the track selection screen which turns from sunrise to sunset.
  • Haunted House : The Haunted Mansion , of course.
  • Inconsistent Spelling : Is Oliver's last name Chickly, or Chickley? The PlayStation, Dreamcast, and PC versions go with the former, the Game Boy Color version with the latter.
  • Original Generation : All characters in the game except for Chip, Dale, and Jiminy Cricket.
  • Over 100% Completion : The game goes up to 105% completion, which requires winning all races and collecting everything in Adventure mode.
  • Perpetual Frowner : Tiara Damáge, a teenaged duck who cosplays the Evil Queen from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs . She always has a nasty scowl, on and off the race track.
  • Product Displacement : At the time of the game's release, Disney's Hollywood Studios was called Disney- MGM Studios. Since Disney could not use the MGM name in certain marketing contexts, it was renamed the "Disney Studios" in the game, much like how The Walt Disney World Explorer called the park "Disney Studios Florida".
  • One assumes Baron Karlott has no issues finding a parking space.
  • Moe Whiplash .
  • Recycled Soundtrack : While most of the tracks use music from the rides they're based on, three tracks had songs recycled from other, completely unrelated games. The Dinosaur track uses the theme from the Prehistory Channel level of Gex: Enter the Gecko . The Blizzard Beach track uses a slightly rearranged version of Totally Scrooged from Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko . The Rock 'n' Roller Coaster track uses the theme from the Aqueous Major level of space shooter Total Eclipse . All four games were developed by Crystal Dynamics.
  • Ned Shredbetter, a Totally Radical dog affiliated with Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon, is unlocked by completing the trophy challenges on all nine Adventure mode tracks.
  • X.U.D. 71, a robotic duck character affiliated with Space Mountain, is unlocked by collecting all the green sparkles on all the tracks except the three Bonus Stage tracks (Test Track, Typhoon Lagoon, and Disney Studios).
  • Jiminy Cricket is unlocked by collecting all the Firework Machine parts as well as completing the Bonus Stage tracks.
  • Secret Level : Splash Mountain , unlocked after collecting all nine first-place pennants in Adventure mode. Like the above secret characters, the manual flat-out tells you Splash Mountain's a secret track, although at least the game's better at hiding this.
  • Shout-Out : The game's subtitle is derived from The Beatles ' Magical Myst ery Tour .
  • Slippy-Slidey Ice World : Blizzard Beach, which, unlike in Real Life (outside of Disney's own lore), is portrayed as an actual snow-covered mountain in the middle of Florida.
  • Virtuous Character Copy : Bruno Biggs is a fat dog instead of cat like Pete , and is Mickey Mouse's biggest fan instead of his archenemy.
  • Wraparound Background : The tracks of the Game Boy Color are essentially this due to the limitations of that platform.

disney magical racing tour

Hey SpeedStars,

We’re back with another Community Pit Stop! Today we’re introducing an exciting new feature to Disney Speedstorm , based on the community’s valuable feedback: Tournaments . Read on to find out all about it, as well as changes coming to the Season Tour and Golden Pass starting in Season 7.

Tournaments are a way for players to access content from previous Seasons through new multi-stage Racer Tournaments and earn seasonal-themed trophies and rewards from previous Golden Passes via the new Vault Passes.

The game’s new main menu layout will now include a “World Map” button, which will take players to the current Season as well as the Tournaments.

During Season 7, Tournaments inspired by Disney and Pixar’s Monsters, Inc. , Toy Story , and Disney’s Lilo & Stitch will gradually become available, and all World Tournaments will not have time limitations to complete. More Tournaments will be added at a later date. So how do the tournaments work? Let’s take a closer look!

RACER TOURNAMENTS

In a Tournament, each Racer from that Season has a set of Racer Tournaments. Each Racer Tournament will consist of four races for each of three difficulty-based Cups. Players can play any tournament for the Racers they have unlocked.

For example, if players have Racer Mike Wazowski unlocked, they can start racing in his specific Racer Tournaments inside the Monsters, Inc. Tournaments.

In each Racer Tournament, players will earn Vault Points and Trophies based on their placement. Players must place at least in third to start earning points and Trophies. The three Tournaments break down as follows:

  • Novice Cup, with the Recommended Racer Level 10
  • Pro Cup, with the Recommended Racer Level 20
  • Super Cup, with the Recommended Racer Level 30

Players will earn a Bronze Trophy if they reach 3rd place as their best position in the final tournament leaderboard, a Silver Trophy if they reach 2nd place and a Gold Trophy if they reach 1st place.

All Tournaments will have a common Daily Tries system through Tournament Tickets. Players who have not purchased a Vault Pass will have 4 tickets available to them across the Tournaments. If a player has purchased a Vault Pass, they will have unlimited tickets in the Tournaments tied to that World.

THE VAULT PASS

Each previous Season’s Tournaments will be attached to a “Vault Pass”, which will bring back rewards from that Season’s Golden Pass.

Players will advance in the Vault Pass by participating in the Tournaments tied to that Season and earning Vault Points. Similar to the Golden Pass, the Vault Pass will have both free and premium rewards, as players will be able to purchase the Vault Pass. Each Season’s Vault Pass will have similar rewards to the Season’s original Golden Pass, including Racer and Crew unlocks and vanity items, as well as new exclusive kart colors.

The premium track of each Vault Pass will be available as a direct purchase for $7.99/€7.99 or equivalent in local currency.

A Vault Pass Bundle will also be available as a direct purchase for $15.99/€15.99 or equivalent in local currency, allowing you to skip the first 15 tiers immediately.

NEW GOLDEN PASS & SEASON TOUR STRUCTURE

Starting in Season 7, significant structural changes will be coming to both Golden Passes and the Season Tour. A high-level summary of the changes can be found below, and these are further explained in more detail. We encourage you to read everything so you can better plan out your approach to Season 7.

Our goals with the changes are:

  • Make our Golden Passes more engaging and faster to complete for players
  • Allow players to focus more on which Racers they wish to unlock via Golden Passes
  • Give more rewards to players that can be used on any Racer in the game

The high-level summary of the changes is below:

  • Seasons will now be split into 2 parts of approximately 1 month.
  • Each part will contain 4-5 Season Tour Chapters.
  • Each part will have a free Golden Pass track which means there’s now 100 tiers of rewards to earn for free.
  • Tiers will now require 1000 XP to complete, a 50% drop, making rewards quicker to earn.
  • Each part will have a premium Golden Pass for $9.99/€9.99 or equivalent in local currency.
  • Each part will have a premium Golden Pass Bundle for $19.99/€19.99 or equivalent in local currency that includes 15 tier skips.
  • Golden Passes will no longer be purchasable with Tokens, only as a direct purchase.
  • Golden Pass Credits can still be used to unlock the premium Golden Pass.

SEASON TOUR LENGTH AND PARTS

We have noticed that since the game was released in Early Access in April 2023, 83% of players do not reach Tier 50 of our Golden Pass. This number is even higher for players who start later in the season.

We aim to make both the Season Tour and by extension, the Golden Pass faster to complete for players by dividing it into 2 separate parts of approximately 1 month each. Having a new part to focus on each month will give players something fresh and new to focus on at the midpoint of the Season.

The Season Tour will still have a total of 9-10 Chapters as is currently the case. The Chapters will be split between each part. You do not need to purchase a Golden Pass to access the Season Tour Chapters during Part 1 or Part 2, but players will not be able to access the Part 1 Season Tour Chapters after the conclusion of Part 1.

There will continue to be a Racer available for free via the Season Tour. In Season 7, there will be 20 Shards available from Part 1 Chapters, and 20 more available from Part 2 Chapters. This means that at a minimum all players are guaranteed to unlock this Racer and can take them to 2 Stars if you earn all the Shards on offer across both parts’ Chapters.

GOLDEN PASSES

Starting in Season 7, each part will have its own dedicated Golden Pass with free and premium tracks. The premium Golden Pass will no longer be purchasable with Tokens and will only be available as a direct purchase for $9.99/€9.99 or equivalent in local currency.   Golden Pass Bundles will also be available for each part as a direct purchase for $19.99/€19.99 or equivalent in local currency, allowing you to skip the first 15 tiers immediately.

It’s also important to note that Season Pass Credits can still be used to unlock premium Golden Passes.

Each part’s Golden Pass will have the same number of tiers as the full season-long Golden Passes available in previous seasons, so players can earn double the rewards they could before.

Players will now have 100 tiers to earn in the free track of the Golden pass, compared to 50 tiers previously. The amount of XP required to complete each tier, up until tier 49, is also being reduced from 2000 XP to 1000 XP, so players should be able to complete the pass in half the time. The amount of XP required to complete the repeatable tier of the Golden Pass will increase incrementally.

Also, with the removal of Upgrade Parts outlined in our previous Community Pit Stop , the new Upgrade Coin currency will take their place as rewards in the Golden Pass, allowing players to upgrade their favorite Racers more easily.

The free track of each part’s Golden Pass will contain 30 Shards for another Racer, meaning that at a minimum all players are guaranteed to unlock this Racer and can take them to 2 Stars if you earn all the unlockable Shards across the 2 passes.

Each part’s premium Golden Pass will feature a different Racer. Players who purchase each part’s premium Golden Pass will be able to earn 70 Shards for the featured Racer, enough to unlock them and bring them to 3 Stars. If you join after the conclusion of Part 1’s Golden Pass, the Racer featured in that pass will be available in the Shop.

That’s a wrap on a brand-new way to access previous season’s content and the new Season Tour/Golden Pass structure! Thanks for taking the time to read the whole article, we’ll see you out on the racetrack!
