How to turn off double tap zoom in iOS 15 safari

I find the double-tap to zoom feature very annoying in certain situations. I don’t need the feature; I can always pinch to zoom. I read that double tapping with three fingers turns the feature off in iPadOS, but I tried it on my phone and it doesn’t seem to work there. Is there any way to turn the feature off in iOS?

do you have an example webpage that does this?

Tapping to zoom is not something I typically do in Safari, I would just pinch to zoom like you would prefer.

But I tried going to a couple of random sites, one of them an iPhone 13 page on Apple's website.. I can single, double and triple tap with 1 or 2 fingers.. Nothing ever zooms for me. (I'm on iOS 15.3.1 using an iPhone 13 Pro)

If you are doing this with a 3 finger double tap, that's not specific to Safari.. that is activating an accessibility feature called Zoom and you can do that in any app on your iPhone, also from your Home Screen. If that's what you're seeing, you'd disabled that by going into Settings > Accessibility > Zoom and turning off the switch at the top.

How to Double Tap on iPhone 13, Mini, Pro, and Pro Max

double click safari iphone

Last year, Apple introduced a very interesting accessibility feature, letting you double tap on your iPhone’s back to trigger specific actions. As you can imagine, that feature is part of this year’s iPhone lineup as well, as it comes built into iOS 15. Therefore, let’s show you how to double tap on your iPhone 13 while also sharing some tips along the way.

The following applies to all iPhone 13 lineup models, which would be the iPhone 13, 13 Mini, 13 Pro, and 13 Pro Max. However, you can use double tap on more phones, as long as they can run iOS 14 or iOS 15.

How to Double Tap on the iPhone 13?

By default, double-tapping on your iPhone’s back does nothing. In other words, you need first to enable this functionality. So, go through the following steps.

1. Launch the Settings app on your iPhone.

2. Then, scroll a bit down and pick ' Accessibility .'

3. You now need to tap on ' Touch .'

4. Scroll to the bottom of the page and select ' Back Tap .'

Steps to Enable Back Tap on iPhone 13 iOS 15

5. You should now see two options on your screen – 'Double Tap' and 'Triple Tap.'

6. Go ahead and select ' Double Tap .'

7. You’ll now see a long list of possible actions. Take your time and make your pick .

8. To enable a specific action, tap on its name .

9. Select ' Back Tap ' at the top to return to the previous screen .

10. Finally, double tap on your iPhone 13’s back to try the newly set up feature.

Before we let you go, a few valuable pieces of advice. When choosing a double-tap action, you can choose from several groups of possible actions related to controlling iOS, triggering accessibility functions, scrolling, or activating one of your shortcuts (found via the Shortcuts app). Some of the possible actions include  accessing the App Switcher ,  going back to your phone’s home screen ,  controlling your device’s volume , and more.

With that said, know that your double-tap possibilities are practically endless. That especially goes for those willing to dive into the Shortcuts app and create their own shortcuts. In iOS 15, that app has been further simplified, and we highly recommend checking it out.

Implementing doubletap on iPhones and iPads

01/02/2022 22:32

When the iPhone first arrived, one of the coolest things that Apple did was to have Mobile Safari display a miniature view of an entire web site, allowing users to double tap and zoom into the portions of the site that they wanted to see. This clever solution to navigate large pages in a small screen came with a price.

If your site takes advantage of the double click functionality, when it is displayed on Mobile Safari you loose that capability, your clicks become touch events and the double click (double-tap) now belongs to the browser.

If you want to get the double click functionality back, the first thing you should know is that you can prevent the default browser behavior that takes your double click away. Once you have done that, you can easily re-implement the double click/touch behavior you lost. In your HTML page start with adding a meta tag to indicate the users are not allow to scale the page:

Now you should be able to write code for iOS devices and for regular browsers

Adding double double tap is bit trickier. We need to measure the time between two consecutive touch events. If a user taps twice within 500 milliseconds (half a second), I can assume that the user meant double tap. Now keep in mind that two click/touch events are also fired. The trick is that we have to wait before we can fire a click/touch event and call our doubletap handler only if users click/tap very quickly.

Let’s go one step at the time. I will use jQuery to bind a touchend event to an element selector:

What I have done so far, is to determine the difference between the last touch and the current touch events. The first time that this code runs, both the current touch time and the last touch time are the same, so the delta is zero. At the end of the function I want to make sure that I update the value of the last touch to be equal to the current touch.

Now that we know where to write the double tap code, let’s figure out how to add some logic to help us know when to invoke the double tap code:

To determine how long we have to wait before we can tell that the user only tapped once, I added a timeout call declared outside of the touchend event handler. Every time that the touchend event is fired, I clear the action timeout which prevents the click/touch from happening. If the value of delta is less than 500 milliseconds (half a second) we can definitely invoke the doubletap code, but if delta is higher that 500 milliseconds the timeout is defined again and our click/touch code will be invoked in half a second.

Let’s put everything together and write it as a jQuery extension:

iOS 13: Double Tap to Zoom in Safari No Longer Works

Andrew Orr

Double Tap Zoom

Instead of double tapping you’ll have to pinch and un-pinch to zoom in and out. While it’s not a huge change, it was a feature that made using your iPhone with one hand easier. So far it appears to be only removed in Safari. Double tap to zoom works in Maps and Photos.

If you’ve noticed other small features that have been removed, share them in the comments below and we’ll write about it.

How to Double Click on iPhone 11 to Install Apps from App Store

Double click the side button on iphone to make app purchases and buy subscriptions..

Mayur Agarwal

A lot has changed since Apple launched the iPhone X in 2017. In iPhone X and newer iPhones, there is no home button and hence no Touch ID, as well. The Side button replaces the power button found in iPhone 8 and earlier whereas Face ID replaces Touch ID. If you own an iPhone X or later, then you need to use gestures to navigate across your phone, multitask, search, access the Control Center and more.

That said if you have upgraded to iPhone 11 from iPhone 8 or older then you may initially find it difficult to figure out the new controls and functionality. One such issue arises when the App Store asks you to “Double-Click to Install” while installing apps. Similarly, it shows “Double-Click to Confirm” for new subscriptions and “Double-Click to Pay” when you make a transaction using Apple Pay.

On older iPhones, you could simply authenticate an app download or in-app purchase using Touch ID. However, the same isn’t possible on the iPhone 11 series that uses Face ID.

What does double-click mean on iPhone?

The double-click pop-up that you see while installing an app or making a purchase is actually an additional step to verify any app purchases or subscriptions. It even shows up when you download free apps from the App Store. The purpose of this second step is to prevent users from accidentally downloading apps and making unintentional purchases with Face ID .

When a Double-click to Install/ Confirm/ Pay pop-up appears, simply press the Side button (physical button on the right side) twice quickly. Upon confirming, the iPhone will do final authentication using Face ID and let you install the particular app.

Double-press the Side button to Confirm

Personally, I didn’t have a problem understanding the double-click function even though I’m a first time iPhone (11) user. At the same time, many people find it confusing and end up double-tapping the white animation on the screen that appears at the top right side.

We can blame Apple for this as the on-screen instructions aren’t very clear. The displayed message could instead say “Double-Click the Side button to Install”. Thankfully in iOS 13 , Apple has added a “Confirm with Side Button” message at the bottom of the screen to make things easier.

  1. How to turn off double tap zoom in iOS 15 safari

If you are doing this with a 3 finger double tap, that's not specific to Safari.. that is activating an accessibility feature called Zoom and you can do that in any app on your iPhone, also from your Home Screen.
