dubai trip from india quora

hello, can anyone tell should we book all activities like scuba diving, jet ski, desert safari, aquarium etc, online or should reach the place and then buy tickets for it

' class=

Most of them are cheaper if you buy online in advance. you can compare prices online.

' class=

Desert Safari is better booked beforehand as they need to schedule to pick you up from your hotel.

Other than that most other things can be booked when you reach there as you never know how things will work out for you (weather, time, ....)

Hardly any ticket is cheaper as a 'walk up' than a pre-booked one; providing you've bought it through the correct channels of course.

Here's a thread about vouchers, apps and discount sites you may find interesting.

https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowTopic-g295424-i872-k11650842-Dubai_voucher_codes_apps_and_deal_sites-Dubai_Emirate_of_Dubai.html

There's no 'one best way' to get the best deals for attractions; it is sadly a case of shopping around and comparison.

Here are a few tips though...

1) Start with Entertainer (as there's a surprising amount of kids attractions and tours like hop/hop off buses in there, just ensure you fully check the search, articles and offers to find them!) but don't overlook the other deals/voucher sites

2) Look at the specific attraction's main website - usually they have special offers - or social media profile/mailing list, as occasionally they have flash sales/online promos. Be careful the deals are not just for UAE or GCC residents, as you will likely be asked for ID on redemption and if you're only visiting they will likely make you stump up full cost.

4) Consider a multipass/city pass or similar - if you Google you will find there are many different options. Be wary here of the 'small print' as often they have restrictions such as certain entry times or limitations. It's also worth weighing up the cost against the total value and if you would visit all of the sites/attractions.

5) Viator - although it's a reseller, it's one of the best collective groupings of tours in UAE and worldwide, and it's a Trip Advisor company. Usually, the providers are amongst the best, and the customer service is good whilst they also offer a price matching service too. Think of it as McDonalds - you pay for convenience and reliability rather than the best burger.

6) Check out local media - websites such as Insydo, Lovin  Dubai  or magazines/websites such as Time Out or What's On, as often there are sponsored promotions.

Ultimately, the value is there if you're willing to spend time researching and shopping around. Of course, be careful not to get too bogged down in research as you need to value your own time against any financial savings 😉

"Find the best tours in Dubai. Compare prices and book online. Full Refund Available up to 24 Hours Before Your Tour Date. Quick & Easy Purchase Process. Secure Payments. Guaranteed Low Price. Candid Traveller Photos. Telephone Support. User Reviews and Ratings. Book with Confidence"

So does this mean that any tours/tickets booked via the Trip Advisor web site means that if we did need to cancel tickets up to 24hrs in advance they would give a full refund??

The actual venue websites say pre booked tickets are non refunable??

What else could a person want?? Except that the negation of each and every statement in this quote is what is probably true.

I agree with the views in post #5; retain control, be spontaneous, and enjoy your trip. Yeah, you might get 10% off here, 20% off there, until you get your comeuppance (deliberately meted out, or otherwise.) In the end it will likely lead to frustration.

With the possible exception of the Burj Khalifa , you can book on the same day (or a day in advance) for most things, and sometimes it is a good idea. For example, for the 20 minutes you'd likely only spend in the Dubai Frame , you'll spend up to 2 hours waiting in two different lines; one (and one only) of the lines can be circumvented by purchasing on-line (and don't worry about the 'tour time' you booked ... that option is there just for laughs.)

"So does this mean that any tours/tickets booked via the Trip Advisor web site means that if we did need to cancel tickets up to 24hrs in advance they would give a full refund??"

It depends on who you talk to; a shill for the company selling the coupons, or someone who has an axe to grind, or ...

Dubai Axiom: Ask 10 people a question about Dubai, and you'll get 11 different answers.

By the way ... don't "jet ski." Or at least Google the jet-ski scams before you do.

Hint: Read the papers you sign, and don't sign any agreement written in Arabic only.

Case in point, you might review what other have to say before purchasing your free lunch coupons. The opinions range fro spectacular deals, to ...

Emirates rolls out pre-approved visa on arrival for Indian travellers in conjunction with VFS Global

a380-new-livery

  • New initiative enables eligible Emirates customers to skip the Visa-On-Arrival queue in Dubai
  • Service exclusive to Indian passport holders who have booked their travel on Emirates with a valid six-month visa for US, EU or UK  Residency

Dubai, UAE, 1 February 2024: Emirates has exclusively partnered with VFS Global to introduce a pre-approved visa on arrival facility for Indian passport holders who have booked their travel with the airline. Fulfilled by Dubai Visa Processing Centre* (DVPC) and issued as a 14-day single entry visa, the new initiative will enable Emirates customers to skip queues when arriving in Dubai, simplifying their arrival formalities by breezing through customs before heading out to visit the city.

Emirates customers can book their flights through emirates.com or through their preferred travel agent.  After retrieving their booking through ‘Manage an existing booking’ on emirates.com, customers should click on the ‘apply for a UAE visa’ link. They will be redirected to the online UAE Visa application site powered by VFS Global Services, which sets out the requirements, terms and conditions to facilitate the visa application process. For additional information visit https://www.emirates.com/ae/english/before-you-fly/visa-passport-information/uae-visa-information/

The service is exclusively available to Indian passport holders who have a valid six-month visa for the US, US Green Card, EU Residency, or UK Residency. The issuance of visas remains at the absolute discretion of the General Directorate of Residency and Foreign Affairs.

Dubai remains a first-choice destination Indian travellers, with an array of attractions and accommodation options that meet every taste, age and budget.  It’s also home to a vibrant Indian community that frequently welcomes family and friends from India and around the world. According to Dubai Tourism statistics, Dubai welcomed 2 million overnight visitors from India between January to October 2023.

Emirates currently serves nine destinations in India with 167 weekly flights, connecting travellers to Dubai and onwards to a global network of more than 140 destinations. Dubai Travel Guide for Indians | Your 2022 Travel Guide to Dubai From India

Dubai Travel Guide for Indians

Dubai Travel Guide 2022 – Dubai is often the first choice for Indians when they think about a quick vacation. After all, the flying time between the two destinations is less than four hours. Read out our exclusive guide to Dubai from India and for Indians.

DUBAI FOR INDIANS?

As per the data put out by Dubai Tourism , in the first half of 2019 alone, Dubai received around one million Indians. Unsurprisingly, it’s one of the dream holiday spots for most Indians.

So if you’re one among them and considering a trip here, this exclusive Dubai travel guide for Indians , covering everything from visa information and culture and customs to the city’s top attractions and entertainment options, will prove helpful to plan your perfect Dubai holiday.

DUBAI: ESSENTIAL INFORMATION

Burj Khalifa Dubai

  • Dubai is one of the seven emirates of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
  • It’s the second-largest city in the UAE, after Abu Dhabi which is also the country’s capital city.
  • HH Sheik Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum is the ruler of Dubai. He’s also the country’s prime minister and the vice president.
  • Arabic is the local language.
  • Emiratis constitute less than 20% of the overall population, with over 80% being the ex-pat community from over 150 countries.
  • The UAE Dirham or AED is the local currency and is pegged to the US Dollar, exchangeable at a rate of AED 3.67 per one USD. As per the current rate, one dirham is equivalent to a somewhat 19.5 Indian Rupee.
  • There are ATMs and reliable money exchange bureaus all over the city.
  • Dubai International Airport is the world’s fifth-busiest airport. There is also Al Maktoum International Airport in Dubai South.
  • Dubai’s eclectic neighborhoods like Bur Dubai and Karama have the greatest concentration of Indians.
  • Unlike India, the weekend in Dubai falls on Fridays and Saturdays.

CULTURE & CUSTOMS

Skyline of Dubai

Skyline of Dubai

Dubai is a part of the Islamic nation means its culture, customs and traditions are deeply entrenched in its religious roots. Despite its conservative culture, it’s a liberal Arabian metropolis that respects and (of course) welcomes diverse world cultures and traditions wholeheartedly.

And as for the language and other aspects, Indians will find it easy to communicate and navigate the city, with the majority of the ex-pat community being people from different parts of India.

PLAN YOUR DUBAI TRIP

  • Best Time to Visit: You can travel to Dubai during any part of the year, however, the most recommended time is during the cool, pleasant winter months (November to April), particularly if you enjoy the outdoors or want to participate in popular events like DSF (Dubai Shopping Festival). Al though Dubai never slows during summer months (May to September), it’s still good to know that the temperature outside will be exceedingly high reaching up to 55 degrees Celsius.
  • Recommended Duration: With tons of attractions and experiences to discover, you’ll need at least four to five days to take in Dubai’s top attractions.
  • At Religious Sites: Ladies should wear loose clothing that covers your head, shoulders, and knees.
  • Theme Parks: Choose comfortable clothing that is not revealing.
  • Beaches: You can wear whatever you usually put on your beach visit. But, make sure that you dress modestly and don’t go topless.
  • Must-have: Now even if it’s summer or winter, dress modestly. Also, carry a cardigan as the malls and other indoor attractions are air-conditioned and hence super cool in every climate.
  • Cosmetics & Medications: Besides your regular beauty creams and medications, be sure to pack a good quality sunscreen as Dubai has year-round intense sunshine.
  • Other accessories: H ats, sunglasses, and a pair of good quality footwear.
  • Gadgets: There is so much to see in Dubai means it also allows for some insta-worthy pictures. So come prepared with (camera, tripod, etc) to capture the best ever clicks.
  • Where to stay? Choose an accommodation that provides easy access to all attractions and experiences covered in your travel program. If shopping and entertainment are high on your priority, consider accommodation in Al Barsha or Downtown Dubai. If you’re looking for budget-friendly choices, there are some decent choices across Dubai’s Bur Dubai and Deira regions.

DUBAI VISA INFORMATION

Dubai visa or UAE visa can be used to travel anywhere in the country. Indians planning for a short trip to Dubai can apply for a Tourist Visa, Visit Visa or a Transit Visa. There is also a multiple-entry visa which is especially ideal for those who wish to fly in and out of Dubai multiple times during the duration of the visa.

Some Indians are eligible for a Visa on Arrival (check below for more details) too. Apart from these, people traveling to Dubai or UAE during the period from July 15 to September 15 don’t have to pay any visa charge for their kids (under 18 years). All tourist visas except for 30-day visas are non-renewable.

  • Accurately filled out the tourist visa application form.
  • A valid Indian passport that holds a validity of at least six months from the date you plan to enter Dubai or UAE.
  • Scanned copies of the first and last pages of your passport.
  • Clear passport size photographs of passengers taken against a white background.
  • If you’re female planning to travel alone, attach a NOC from your father or husband.
  • We recommend checking out good resources from the internet on Dubai Tourist Visa & Dubai Visa
  • A letter which details the purpose of your visit.
  • Your Dubai sponsor’s passport and resident visa copies.
  • A security deposit of up to AED 2000 per visa. This is refundable but only once you submit the proof of your exit from the country.
  • The confirmed air ticket of your onward journey
  • Confirmed hotel booking
  • Visa on Arrival: This is applicable to only those Indians who hold a residency visa of the UK or European Union.

OK to Board?

This is a mandatory procedure to be adhered to by Indians planning for a short or temporary visit to the UAE. If you don’t know what Ok to Board is, it’s a simple procedure wherein your airline conducts a check in order to ensure the legitimacy of your UAE travel documents, mainly passport, UAE visa, etc.

In fact, you’ll be able to board the plane and travel only if your airline verifies all documents and update your PNR status as ‘OK to Board.’ Apart from this, you can seek the help of your visa service provider to get this process done for a nominal charge.

DUBAI ATTRACTIONS & EXPERIENCES

Burj Khalifa

This list is especially for first-timers traveling to Dubai. Additionally, check out our detailed blog on places to visit in Dubai .

  • Burj Khalifa: Towering over Downtown Dubai, Burj Khalifa is the world’s tallest building. A picture against this mammoth, 828-meter high structure makes a great souvenir picture of your Dubai visit. You can further take to its observation deck on 124 th level or 148 th level for the most panoramic views over Dubai and beyond.
  • Dubai Mall & Dubai Dancing Fountain Show: Right next to the Burj Khalifa is Dubai Mall which is one of the world’s biggest malls. If you think it’s just for shopping (with over 1200 outlets), the reality is that it’s an ultimate leisure and edutainment spot, with attractions such as Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo, KidZania, VR Park, etc. Placed amid Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall is the fabulous ever Dubai Fountain which blows you away with the largest of its choreographed water show.

Bastakiya Quarter

  • Bastakiya Quarter: One of the best ways to get your fill of Emirati culture and past is to make a visit to the Bastakiya Quarter or Al Fahidi Historical Neighborhood. This heritage site is well preserved with its ancient sand-colored structures complemented by wind towers and traditional courtyards. Besides a trip to its top attractions such as Dubai Museum and Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding, you can take an abra ride along Dubai Creek.
  • Ski Dubai: This is undoubtedly Dubai’s coolest attraction. Located within the Mall of the Emirates, this gives you the chance to participate in authentic snow activities even when Dubai simmers with a temperature of over 50 degrees Celsius.
  • Dubai Parks and Resorts: This is the region’s first-of-its-kind integrated resort with three theme parks and a water park under its roof, such as Motiongate Dubai, Bollywood Parks Dubai, Legoland Dubai, and Legoland Dubai. Yes, you guessed it right; Bollywood Parks is dedicated to your favorite Hindi movies and iconic characters.
  • Palm Jumeirah: The palm-tree shaped Palm Jumeirah is probably the first thing that comes into the mind when one thinks about Dubai. The exquisiteness of this man-made island is best experienced from a sky-high viewpoint on a helicopter ride or a sky diving adventure. If this is not affordable, go on a sightseeing tour or take a monorail ride which covers almost the entire of Palm Island, from Al Sufouh Gateway Station to Aquaventure Waterpark within Atlantis, The Palm Hotel.
  • Burj Al Arab: This is yet another attraction that stands as an epitome of Dubai’s unrivaled grandeur. After all, it’s touted as the world’s only seven-star hotel. Now if you want to experience its regal interiors, book a table at one of its many opulent dining venues.
  • Desert Safari: This is one of the best ways to get introduced to Dubai’s untouched desert landscape. Besides heart-racing experiences like dune bash, sandboarding, etc, it allows you to sink into the best aspects of Bedouin culture and traditions, with activities including a camel ride, Shisha smoking, and falconry.
  • Dinner Dhow Cruise: Onboard a traditional wooden Arabian dhow, this cruise along Dubai Creek or Dubai Marina promises you a magical night out in Dubai with the most stunning views, scrumptious food, and scintillating live performances.

SHOPPING IN DUBAI

Dubai Local Market

From the traditional Arabian bazaars (souks) to the coolest shopping malls, Dubai is a true shoppers’ haven. Even if you aren’t into shopping, you can’t help but stop at its many extraordinary shopping hotspots.

While each of its 65 plus malls is a world unto itself, don’t overlook its atmospheric souks, particularly Gold Souk which is definite to leave you in awe with its hundreds of shops selling striking gold jewelry.

WHERE TO EAT?

Dubai Dates Culture

Dubai offers almost everything that your taste buds crave, from sumptuous local treats to specialties from acclaimed fast-food chains like KFC, McDonald’s, and Papa Johns to authentic Mexican, American, Malay, and Chinese cuisines.

Now if your liking for Indian cuisines is stanch, you’ll be spoilt for choices with a staggering array of Indian restaurants all over the city. Peppermill and Options by Sanjeev Kumar are just a few of them. And the best thing is that the city caters to every budget, no matter you’re looking for high-end dining options or super affordable venues.

  GETTING AROUND

Dubai Ferry

Metro: This is probably Dubai’s most popular transport option. Being driverless and completely automated, it’s a must-experience during your Dubai vacation. The major plus is that it’s super swift and affordable too.

Public Bus: With over 1500 air-conditioned buses, this is a budget-friendly option to travel anywhere in Dubai.

Cab: Hiring a cab is undoubtedly the most hassle-free option to get around in the city.

Dubai Ferry: With five ferry terminals, this water transport is ideal for anyone looking for an exotic way to discover Dubai’s stunning sights.

All of the above transport options are operated by the Dubai Government’s Road and Transport Authority (RTA). Purchase an NOL card that can be used to make payment for all RTA transport.

TOP DUBAI TRAVEL TIPS

  • Pre-book to lock in the best rates for your accommodation, flight tickets, etc.
  • For the best value, choose an all-inclusive package with sightseeing, cruise, and desert safari.
  • Don’t eat or drink in public if you’re visiting here during Ramadan.
  • Penalty may be imposed if you’re found smoking or drinking in public.
  • Be cautious while taking pictures; capturing images of government buildings, locals (particularly local Emirati women) are not allowed.
  • Apart from your visa and passport, carry your important documents like travel insurance and international driving license if you plan to drive your own.

Dubai Fountain Show

A trip to Dubai can be overwhelming without a proper plan or travel program. We hope that this extensive Dubai travel guide will come in handy to plan your dream Arabian holiday.

How Expensive is DUBAI for INDIAN Tourists? Budget Explained!

I simply loved my time in Dubai. Although, I will not sugarcoat, Dubai is expensive when comparing to India. But how expensive is Dubai for Indian tourists? Well, in this post, I am explaining the same. The cost of living in Dubai can vary widely depending on your lifestyle and personal preferences. Dubai is known for its luxury and opulence, but it is also possible to live there more affordably if you make conscious choices. Here are some factors to consider when assessing the expense of living in Dubai: how expensive is dubai for indian tourists, how expensive is dubai for indian tourists

  • Housing: Dubai’s housing market offers a range of options, from high-end apartments and villas to more budget-friendly accommodations. The cost of housing can be a significant expense, with luxury properties in prime locations commanding high rents. However, you can find more affordable options in suburban areas or by sharing accommodations with roommates.
  • Food: Dining out in Dubai can be expensive, especially in upscale restaurants. However, there are also plenty of budget-friendly dining options, including local eateries and street food vendors. Cooking at home can help save money on food expenses.
  • Transportation: Dubai has an efficient public transportation system, including the Dubai Metro and buses. While taxis and ride-sharing services are readily available, they can add up if used frequently. Owning a car in Dubai can be costly due to fuel prices, insurance, and parking fees.
  • Entertainment and Leisure: Dubai offers a wide range of entertainment options, from extravagant attractions to free public beaches and parks. The cost of entertainment can vary greatly based on your preferences.
  • Shopping: Dubai is known for its luxury shopping malls, but there are also more budget-friendly options available in traditional markets (souks) and outlet stores.
  • Utilities and Services: Utility bills such as electricity, water, and internet are generally reasonable, but can vary based on your usage. Healthcare services are of high quality but can be expensive, especially without insurance.
  • Education: If you have children, the cost of international schools in Dubai can be a significant expense.
  • Taxes: Dubai has no personal income tax, which can be a significant financial advantage for expatriates.

Dubai 1 Week Cost Trip from India - Practical Budget

But this an overall idea of expenses in Dubai, tourist or otherwise (living there, working there). If you are just planning a trip to Dubai for a vacation then I can provide you with a rough estimate of what you might expect to spend in Indian Rupees (INR) for a one-week stay in Dubai, including accommodation, food, transportation, and some entertainment:

  • Budget hotel or hostel: ₹7,000 to ₹15,000 per night
  • Mid-range hotel: ₹15,000 to ₹30,000 per night
  • Luxury hotel or resort: ₹30,000 and above per night
  • Dining at inexpensive restaurants: ₹500 to ₹1,500 per meal
  • Dining at mid-range restaurants: ₹1,500 to ₹3,000 per meal
  • Fine dining: ₹3,000 and above per meal
  • Dubai Metro and bus fares are relatively affordable, with a one-week pass costing around ₹600.
  • Taxi fares vary, but a one-way trip can cost ₹200 to ₹500 or more depending on the distance.
  • The cost of entertainment and activities depends on your preferences. Entry to tourist attractions, shows, and other activities can range from ₹1,000 to ₹5,000 or more per person per day.
  • This category includes expenses such as shopping, snacks, and other incidentals. Depending on your spending habits, this could amount to ₹5,000 to ₹10,000 for the week.

So, for a moderate budget traveler staying in mid-range accommodation, you might spend approximately ₹75,000 to ₹100,000 for one week in Dubai. For luxury travelers, the cost can be significantly higher, easily exceeding ₹200,000 for the week.

Keep in mind that the exchange rates can fluctuate, so I would suggest you to check current rates when converting your currency to Dirhams (AED) for your trip.

Hope this helps!

When we compare the travel costs of actual travelers between Dubai and Delhi, we can see that Dubai is more expensive. And not only is Delhi much less expensive, but it is actually a significantly cheaper destination. Since Dubai is in Middle East and Delhi is in Asia, this is one of the main reasons why the costs are so different, as different regions of the world tend to have overall different travel costs. So, traveling to Delhi would let you spend less money overall. Or, you could decide to spend more money in Delhi and be able to afford a more luxurious travel style by staying in nicer hotels, eating at more expensive restaurants, taking tours, and experiencing more activities. The same level of travel in Dubai would naturally cost you much more money, so you would probably want to keep your budget a little tighter in Dubai than you might in Delhi.

If you're trying to decide if either of these two destinations are within your price range, also see Is Dubai Expensive? and Is Delhi Expensive? .

Delhi has a larger population, and is about 10 times larger than the population of Dubai. When comparing the sizes of Dubai and Delhi, keep in mind that a larger population does not always imply the destination has more attractions or better activities. So, always research the type of place that you want to visit along with the activities and attractions that interest you.

Tourists are curious about the top attractions to visit in the UAE due to the abundance of activities available in the city.

The Burj Khalifa

Begin with the city's most visible landmarks. Dubai is well-known for its breathtaking and almost unbelievable architecture. When visiting this remarkable city, visitors should make sure to see the Burj Khalifa and Burj Al Arab, two of its most famous buildings that resemble lighthouses in the desert.  Visit the  Burj Khalifa Observation Deck for an incredible perspective from the world's highest structure, which also has a restaurant/bar, hotel, residences, a mall, and a spa. It's worth seeing the city, whose king tower dwarfs everything else, during the day. You may enjoy the iconic view from the 360-degree observation decks located on the 124th and 125th floors. Access to an outside terrace and powerful telescopes for an even greater look at the city are available on the 124th level. At 456 meters high, the 125th floor's décor highlights Arab arts and culture. To make the day even more unforgettable, engage in the virtual reality experience and the green screen photo opportunity.  Take in a top-notch viewing experience from 585 meters above the earth from the 152nd to the 154th level. Guests can savor delicious munches and glasses of champagne, coffee, and tea, which will boost your touring experience! For your amusement as you unwind, they also have live performances.

It comes as no surprise that for Dubai Sightseeing, this metropolis has the largest mall in the world. There are about 1,200 stores at Dubai Mall, including Zara and the Hershey Store. It also has fantastic dining options, a sizable aquarium, a striking ice rink, and a fantastic indoor ski resort. With so much to see and view in one place, this is an excellent way to spend a day!  Choose from a variety of American, Japanese, and Arabian dishes for breakfast at any restaurant in the Dubai Mall. Additionally, as the Dubai Mall Fountain hosts a light and music display every hour, you might enjoy your supper by the fountain.

The Marina and The Palm

It's a posh neighborhood with gorgeous homes, upscale restaurants, and luxurious lodging options. The Atlantis Hotel, maybe one of Dubai's most exquisite hotels, is located at the extreme tip of the island, which resembles a palm tree spreading its fronds from the air. You should not pass up the chance to have an alcoholic breakfast at Saffron Restaurant at The Palm in the Atlantis Hotel, provided you are fortunate enough to arrive at the appropriate hour. They provide a range of food options as well as alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks to add to the enjoyment of your journey. It's a fantastic way to take in the sights of the sea, the hotel, and a great time. Grab your finest attire, have breakfast, and then make your way to Atlantis.

Desert Safari

One of the top ten things to do in Dubai is to go on a desert safari; nobody visits the city without doing so. It also serves to remind visitors that the area is still a desert. Although opulent hotels, ice rinks, ski slopes, and shiny buildings can divert your attention from the sand dunes, you still have to appreciate the beauty of the desert. There's no better sight than witnessing the sun set over the desert with its peach glow cascading from dune to dune. It involves riding a camel, "dune-bashing" in a 4x4 vehicle, receiving henna tattoos, witnessing a belly-dancing performance, and enjoying delectable Arab food. Enjoy a belly-dancing show alongside other acrobatic feats along with an Arabian style meal. Is there a more enjoyable way to live in the desert?

All You Need to Know To Transit through Dubai from India during Corona

Photo of aditi

With the world gradually braving the affect of Coronavirus and going global again, India is slowly connecting to the world through air bubbles. These mysterious air bubbles have left a huge confusion in the minds of people intending to travel to destination not a part of this treaty. Can i transit ? do i need a visa ? How to book tickets?

Well not all but here i share my and my husband's experience of Transit through dubai to destination in Middle east and Africa with transit through Dubai on Emirates as well as Ethiopian Airlines.

The journey starts in New Delhi and we'll cover the journey exhaustively to give you a fair idea of what will come your way.

1. Tickets - If you are planning to transit through Dubai then it is advised to book two separate tickets instead of a connecting ticket. One till Dubai and second onwards to your final destination. The Airlines at Delhi will check you in only till Dubai and Give you one boarding pass as the air bubble allows only travel till UAE.

The mechanics of Transit and transfer of your luggage I'll cover subsequently.

2. Documents -

a. Covid 19 RT PCR test from a ICMR recognized lab taken a maximum of 96h prior is mandatory.

b. You also need to have a visit visa of Dubai to check in. A lot of confusion is going around regarding that whether transit visa is required or not, but as per our experience we were asked for tourist visa by Emirates for check in and boarding. We also met a fellow passenger who was returned back a week prior for not having a valid visa. Also a note that Transit visa is not being issued by Dubai so it is better to get a single entry tourist visa easily available through various agencies like Akbar, Musafir online. However, some people claim Indian Carriers such as Vistara and Spicejet are not asking for Dubai Tourist visa but this information has not been confirmed by any of the Airlines officially and even Indian Civil Aviation website says the opposite. So we recommend taking tourist visa which costs additional 7k to your Pocket and if you want to save that you may risk to travel through such airlines.

c. Check for the visa requirements of your final destination and ensure that you have it as you will be asked for the same at the Immigration and at Dubai once you will be checking in for the final destination. Although you will be clear to travel to Dubai on the Dubai visa that you hold.

3.Transit Through Dubai- Now once you have boarded at Delhi the next step lies in smooth transfer in Dubai.

a. Ensure that you have atleast 4-5 hours between the two flights.

b. Check in and transfer of luggage at Dubai . As you are traveling on two different PNR you will have to collect your next boarding pass and transfer your luggage in Dubai. We had travelled on Emirates from New Delhi and had two different Airlines from Dubai onwards. I was traveling on Emirates and my Husband on Ethiopian so we can share the experience of transfer on same carrier and different one. As soon as you reach Dubai arrivals please head towards the connections desk. There are two counters f connections desk on either end of a huge hallway, one for all other Airlines and one for Emirates. So I'll cover both -

Transfer Onto Emirates -

It was relatively easy as I had travelled on Emirates from Delhi. So they just checked my Onwards ticket , verified my documents and visa for the destination and issued my boarding pass and put my luggage on transfer on the next flight.

Emirates made the whole experience very comfortable and I was ready for my next flight.

Transfer onto Ethiopian - It was comparatively a little tedious process but still Dubai International takes care of all needs. You can go to the all other Airlines check in desk next to which is also the Marhaba Counter. You can give the Marhaba agent your inwards boarding pass with luggage tag and your onwards ticket of any Airlines that you are flying with. This can be done only 5 hrs prior to your next flight and incase the gap between your two flights is more you don't have to worry the staff of Dubai International airport collects all the baggage from the arrival carousel and stores them in the baggage hold till you check it in again through Marhaba and i can vouch for it. We had a gap of 13hrs between the inbound and outbound flights.

5 hrs before the flight you can go to the Marhaba desk and give the requisite documents and put your luggage on transfer. It costs around USD85 per piece and the luggage will be transferred onto your next flight as soon as you check in.Again, if you want to save these additional bucks you may want to travel light with allowed 7kg cabin luggage.

As far as check in onto the next flight is concerned it only starts 3 hrs prior to departure time (except Emirates which is open all the time) at the same connections desk in arrival hall. The process is same mandatory documents, ticket and passport. While they check you in, show them your marhaba slip and they will transfer your luggage and give you a confirmation. You can check it again with the Airlines staff at boarding gate.

Now the question lies what do you do between arrival and departure of next flight. Don't worry you don't have to stay in the arrival hall. Just keep reading.

Time Between Flights-

If you are traveling with Emirates then you are already checked in or even if you are traveling through any other Airlines departing from any terminal you can proceed to the duty free area and enjoy what dubai has to offer and come back 4 hours prior through the same security check just tell them you have to go to connections. Complete your luggage transfer through Marhba, complete check in and proceed again towards the gates.

If you have your next flight from Terminal 2 which was the case when we were going back to India, it is recommended not to leave Terminal 3 more than 4 hours of your departure time as they will not let you in if you dont have boarding pass to next flight which starts only 3 hours prior. For inter terminal connections take a bus which takes approx 20mins to reach, again its easy no need to move out through Immigration or anything, all other procedures remain same. The same should be kept in mind while transfer from Terminal 2 to Terminal 3.

Dubai duty free stands true to its fame with a mile long duty free area it caters for everything. A variety of restaurants satisfies everyone's palate.

If you have a long layover then Alhan lounge at gate B26 and Marhaba lounge are open and allow you to relax for 5 and 4 hrs respectively. All major cards and priority pass are accepted.

For people staying over 10 hrs and looking for some snooze time then Dubai International Hotel Located Near gate B12 offers comfortable rooms at the rate of 180-200$ for 10-15hrs. As i said Dubai caters for everyone.

So decide your next destination and plan your travel. Happy and Safe Journey !
