Miami is certainly not a city to miss, but you can’t afford to miss these day trips from Miami! We all get tired of the hustle and bustle of city life after a little bit. Which means it’s time to hit the road and discover everything Florida has to offer just beyond your front door!

Just beyond Miami’s city lines, you can experience an entire world of wonder. Whether you’re trekking off to explore an ancient castle, or you’re driving across the state to get to the quiet East Coast, you’re definitely in for a change of pace!

The city’s prime location on the Southwestern tip of Florida makes it an ideal base for day trips from Miami. If you’re tired of crowds and want to escape, you’re only a hop, a skip, and a jump away from the serenity of the Everglades. Just to the north you have the shopping haven of West Palm Beach.

Just to the south, you’ll find one of the state’s best features: the Florida Keys. If that’s not enough seclusion for you, the Bahamas are only a short boat ride away, the most luxurious of Miami day trips!

Miami Day Trips Under 1 Hour Away

Stiltsville.

On the south side of Biscayne Bay, you can find one of the most unique day trips from  Miami . Stiltsville, a group of wood stilt houses, stands on reinforced concrete pilings in between Miami and the Florida Keys. Just 25 minutes away, you can encounter the most unique Miami day trip!

A group of pastel buildings appears to hover over the greenish water. At a distance, they even appear to be boats. There are currently seven houses, although a number of them have been destroyed due to hurricanes.

From Biscayne National Park, one of the  best national parks in Florida , you can embark on a boat tour of the mysterious community. The rides to get there do last an hour, but the sight of the Miami skyline makes it worth it. You can even see  native Florida animals  like  sea turtles !

You are free to charter your own boat as well! Try Monty’s in Coconut Grove or Haulover Marina in North Miami Beach. Be advised the area around Stiltsville can be difficult to navigate. With only one deep channel running through the houses, pay attention close attention to markers.

Fort Lauderdale

Only an hour away, Fort Lauderdale makes a perfect day trip from Miami! With a more relaxed vibe, you can explore museums , an arts district with painted murals, and the riverwalk areas.

Las Olas Boulevard is known as the place to be from award-winning restaurants, boutiques, hotels, and nightlife it is worth a visit! You can also check out Sawgrass Mills and The Galleria. For those wanting to visit the stunning beach, you are in luck.

Miami Day Trips 1 – 2 Hours Away

West palm beach.

Originally founded by Henry Flagler as a haven for the rich and elite, West Palm Beach certainly has blossomed into an urban center. Just under 2 hours away, West Palm Beach makes one of the most perfect day trips from Miami.

Through the vibrant neighborhoods with palm-lined streets, you’ll feel electric energy found nowhere else. Separated by gorgeous Intracoastal Waterways, West Palm Beach may be the most serene gem along the Eastern Seaboard.

Visit art museums or take the kids to the aquarium. Catch a baseball game or build the most enormous sandcastle you can! Pick up a cigar at Havana Quest Cigars on Clematis Street or play mini-golf at the South Florida Science Center & Aquarium! West Palm Beach has something for everyone in the family!

The Everglades

If you’re traveling from downtown Miami , you can expect only a forty-minute drive! You’ll want to go to the Shark Valley entrance! For the quickest route, simply take I-95 North to exit 3A (FL-836 W to FL-825). From there, turn right onto US-41 West until you hit swamp!

From the Shark Valley Visitor Center, you can walk or bike along a 15-mile loop trail that leads into Shark River Slough. Halfway up the loop trail is a 65-foot high observation tower, where you will be rewarded with a panoramic view of the sawgrass marsh. This is also a great place to go stargazing in Florida . If you don’t want to venture out on your own, consider some tours of the Everglades .

If you’re a true outdoorsman, you can spend your day on portions of the Wilderness Waterway for some serious kayaking ! If you don’t want to get wet, consider the Anhinga Trail. One of the most accessible in the Everglades, it’s also one of the best places to see wild alligators and more Florida wildlife .

John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park

The first undersea park in the United States, John Pennekamp State Park in Key Largo is 70 nautical miles of beautiful coral reefs! If Miami’s nightclub scene is getting old, trade in your boaters and high heels for a snorkel and jump in!

A Florida National Marine Life Sanctuary, the living, shallow-water coral reefs are alive and vibrant with color. Divers from around the world travel here to experience the area’s extraordinary wildlife. But you only have to drive an hour and 14 minutes from Miami to get there!

While the park boasts mangroves and tropical hammocks, the reefs are the star attraction. You are permitted to scuba dive and snorkel to get a closer look. If you want to stay dry, rent a glass-bottom boat to see the beauty underneath you!

For a truly unique experience in one of the prettiest state parks in Florida , exploring the underwater worlds of Key Largo is a must! Seeing the shipwrecks and sunken statues beneath the surface will make this one of the most memorable day trips from Miami!

One of the  prettiest beach towns in Florida  on the Gulf of Mexico, Naples gained notoriety for its high-end shopping, world-class culture, and sophisticated fine dining. Here you’ll find golf courses , pristine beaches, and adventure, any of which would make a great day trip from Miami!

Play a round of Bocce ball on the lawn after visiting the Naples Botanical Gardens! Then go fishing or watch the sunset on the famous Naples Pier. Then go kayaking on the mangroves of Denlor-Wiggins Pass State Park!

Even if your vacation doesn’t involve napping in a hammock, there’s still plenty to do on your perfect Miami day trip.

Admire the beauty of Key Largo at the Dagny Johnson Key Largo Hammock Botanical State Park. Here you can take an easy hike through twisting paths. Or if admiring Florida wildlife is more your style, admire more than 90 rescued birds at the Florida Keys Wild Bird Rehabilitation Center.

Fans of the movie The African Queen starring Humphrey Bogart and Katherine Hepburn can get a taste of Florida movie history here too! Take a 90-minute cruise on the actual boat and stop off for dinner at a beautiful waterside restaurant.

If you are interested in that day trip from Miami to a more secluded beach for relaxation? You should head out to Harry Harris Park. Parts of the beach are sheltered if you need shade from all that swimming. There are also showers, a boat ramp, barbecue areas, as well as sports facilities!

Marco Island

The largest of 10,000 Islands, mangrove-lined estuaries lie just south of  Naples .  Marco Island’s beaches  and surrounding sandbars offer some of the best shelling in the world. With  community parks , nature preserves,  festivals , and  museums , there’s something for everyone to enjoy!

And it’s not too far away either! If you take Alligator Alley, you can start your day trip from Miami to Marco Island in just under two hours! Rent a jet ski and head to the Florida Domes! For a unique beach experience, catch the ferry out to Keewaydin Island! Bring a cooler with snacks while you relax on the beach. Even if you pack sparsely, you can catch the Burger Barge, which brings refreshments like hot dogs and hamburgers!

If you want to make the most of your beach time, consider taking a shelling tour. Hit up Sand Dollar Shelling to see the gorgeous natural flora, pristine sands, and glistening ocean waters. Sand Dollar Shelling has also found more Junonia Shells than any other company, an incredibly rare and coveted shell!

Biscayne Bay

If you’re looking for an exciting Miami day trip, then why not head over to a national park in Florida? One of our favorites, and only an hour and 14 minutes away from the city, is Biscayne National Park!

The park is an expansive 172,971 acres and 95 percent is water. This national park is home to Elliott Key, which is the largest island in the park.

There are fun activities for everyone at this national park. From guided eco-adventures, fishing and lobstering, boating, paddling, snorkeling, camping, observing wildlife, to relaxing and admiring the view, everyone will enjoy the time spent at this National Park in Florida.

There is no daily entrance fee for this national park , however if you plan to camp overnight on either Elliott Key or Boca Chita Key, there is a fee of $25.

Coral Castle

For those that want a little mystery out of their day trips from Miami, consider visiting Coral Castle. One of the most beautiful castles in Florida , its origins to this day are still a mystery! And at only an hour and 13 minutes away, you’ll easily be musing its mysteries on your drive home!

We know that from 1923-1951, Edward Leedskalnin carved 1,000 tons of coral rock. We know that he designed an elaborate rock garden. What we don’t know is how he did it by himself. Leedskalnin said ““knew the secrets used to build the pyramids.” Some have said he had supernatural powers. 

What we do know is that Coral Castle remains an everlasting monument to his lover that canceled their wedding the day before the ceremony. The beauty endures in its exquisite rock formations, shaded by bougainvillea trees.

Among the garden’s features is a 9-ton gate that opens with the touch of a finger, a Polaris telescope, and functional rocking chairs. All of them made completely of coral stone.

When you walk through the castle, you’ll be in awe of the structure. While scientists debate how Leedskalnin built this castle, it stands as a testament to the power of love. The next time you’re in the city, Coral Castle is a must of all day trips from Miami.

Miami Day Trips 2+ Hours Away

The bahamas.

Taking a ferry to the Bahamas is one of the best Miami day trips and one of the best escapes from Florida! It’s definitely easier than you might think! With the ferry launching from Fort Lauderdale and the ferry ride lasting about two hours, you can get to paradise in just over 3 hours total!

The Balearia sails from Fort Lauderdale into the Bahamas port of your choice, either Freeport or Bimini! The cheapest ferry tickets cost $198 for a round trip. If you decide to extend your day trip from Miami into a weekend getaway , you have the option of extending your trip by booking a hotel through the Balearia.

Dock in Freeport, the main city on Grand Bahama, and you can enjoy the oceanfront Lucaya district, with beaches, resorts, and shopping! Check out Deadman’s Reef for the most beautiful snorkeling. Head up the coast to Lucayan National park to explore extensive underwater caves, not to mention great kayaking and nature trails.

Bimini, the closer of the two docks, is only 50 miles away from Florida’s coast. Bimini is also the less-touristy of the two docks, especially when compared to a place like Nassau. You can expect glorious beaches, incredible game fishing, luxurious food and accommodations!

Bahia Honda State Park

While driving to the keys one of the most popular day trips from Miami, a lot of people overlook the natural beauty of Bahia Honda State Park on Bahia Honda Key! Only 3 hours away from the city, Bahia Honda provides the most relaxing beach escape for weary travelers.

Visitors to the park experience breathtaking views of what makes Florida the Sunshine State. Palm-lined shores are lapped up by gin-clear waters. Balmy breezes will keep you warm year-round in this South Florida State Park.

Explore the world just underneath the waters of Bahia Honda on a self-guided  snorkeling  tour. Among the seagrass beds and rocky bottoms, you’ll catch a glimpse of spiny lobster, starfish, and queen conch poking their heads out to say hello.

Perhaps the most beautiful thing to do at Bahia Honda is star gaze. Once the sun sets on the turquoise waters, stars fill the night sky and the beaches become a magical wonderland. Walk the  Old Bahia Honda Bridge  and  gaze up at the constellations , or just lie back in a beach chair and let the majesty wash over you.

Dry Tortugas

If you’re looking for a true adventure out of your Miami day trips, consider heading out to the Dry Tortugas. One of the most beautiful national parks in America, we will warn you, this trek is not for the faint of heart as the journey will take you a bit of time to get there.

First, start by driving to Key West. From there, you’ll board the Yankee Freedom III, which will take you 70 miles west to Dry Tortugas National Park and Fort Jefferson. The drive plus the ferry will take you in total about 4 and half hours to get there. You can also charter a seaplane for a faster journey, but this option is more expensive.

The beaches on Dry Tortugas National Park don’t come anymore whiter or beautiful. The white sand slopes into crustal clear waters creating a perfect tropical paradise. Some areas are no swim zones and some reserved for snorkelers.

Take a tour of Fort Jefferson to learn about the island chain’s sordid history as a prison, out in the middle of the ocean. At its height, it housed nearly 2000 people and was described as “a dark, mean place.” You can also take a self-guided tour if this doesn’t seem amenable to you.

Camping is also available on Dry Tortugas if you want to spend more than one day here. Keep in mind, this is extremely primitive camping. There is no fresh water on the island, so you will have to bring your own or get some from the ferry. But the good news is no fresh water means no mosquitos!

One of the most overlooked of the Florida Keys is Marathon Key. When planning some upcoming day trips from Miami, consider exploring Marathon Key, only 2 hours and 42 minutes away from the city!

An aquarium and conservation center, Marathon Marine Park is perfect for the entire family! In addition to multiple aquatic exhibits, you can also explore four different touch tanks: Tide Pool, Nursery, Stingray Cove, and Giant Isopod! The more adventurous can take encounters with sting rays and even big sharks!

Then go snorkeling at Pigeon Key, a small island directly under the 7-Mile Bridge which takes you over the keys. The boat launches from Marathon Key, and once your arrive, you’re free to hit the water. We recommend trying the area just off the dock, near the beach, and around the opening of Pigeon Key’s saltwater pool. Be careful, the currents around the island might be swift.

You can also get up and close to sea turtles ! The Turtle Hospital helps to rescue, rehabilitate, and release injured sea turtles. And you can support the cause while also getting up close to these endangered sea creatures by booking a tour. But be sure to book a tour in advance, because they fill up very quickly!

Key West is known for its nightlife, food scene , beaches , and relaxing island vibes. Don’t be fooled, though. Key West offers a lot of history to learn and adventures for exploring. 3 hours and 47 minutes way, Key West makes the one of the best day trips from Miami.

While we certainly recommend a number of things to do on your drive from Miami to Key West , the southernmost of the Florida Keys has so much to offer on its own! Explore the bar scene on Duval Street to unwind after your long drive. You can also take in the sounds of live music and street performers!

History buffs will appreciate Harry Truman’s Little White House while shopping lovers will appreciate the storefronts and beautiful sunsets at Mallory Square. Adventure lovers? Take a dive down to Vandenburg, a sunken ship eight miles off the coast for underwater sights.

To get yourself into that island living, you can visit one of three Rum distilleries on Key West. Whether you enjoy learning about the distillation process or just enjoy drinking Rum, then head to either Key West’s First Legal Rum Distillery, Papa’s Pilar, and Key West Distilling. You can even pick up some new drink recipes while you’re there.

A quick drive or flight will get you to the heart of a totally different Florida landscape, sipping a piña colada on a beach in the Caribbean or strolling the cobblestone streets of historic cities. 1.  Bimini, Bahamas

This cluster of islands comprises the closest point in the Bahamas to the mainland United States. If that cool factoid doesn't convince you to visit, this might: The trip from Miami to Bimini is about 50 miles and will take you around two hours by boat. You can even go for the day, if you really don't want to spend an entire weekend booking excursions to see dolphins and sharks, playing water sports, going hiking or biking amid indigenous animals and plants.

Time Out tip: Don't forget to visit one of the most popular snorkeling destinations on the island: the SS Sapona shipwreck , a former cargo steamer that didn't survive a 1926 hurricane.

2.  Key West, Florida

Replete with historic nooks, fresh seafood and perfect sunset perches, Key West is a no-brainer choice for a quick Miami getaway. While away days sipping tropical cocktails and noshing on conch fritters in between checking out gems like the Hemingway Home and Museum and taking in live music on Duval Street. Opt to stay at the Casa Marina Key West , which unveiled a nearly $80 million transformation in ’24 and is situated on the largest private beach in town.

3.  Cocoa Beach, Florida

If you're looking for a weekend of all genres, Cocoa Beach is for you. There are plenty of eateries and shops to visit, but bird lovers will find happiness around the birdlife that calls the maritime forest at Lori Wilson Park home. There's more: a true surf town, the city takes pride in the local Florida Surf Museum , which traces the history of the sport on both a regional and national level. Finally, space aficionados are likely aware that the city functions as a gateway to the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex , where you can gaze at amazing rockets and much more. For a beverage with Maldives vibes, hit the Rikki Tiki Tavern —it's tucked at the end of Cocoa Beach’s 800-foot-long pier.

4.  Sarasota, Florida

Top sights in Sarasota—a three-and-a-half-hour drive from Miami—include the John and Mable Ringing Museum of Art (now the official state art museum for Florida), the Jungle Gardens , home to bird and animal shows, and the 15-acre Marie Selby Botanical Gardens . Beach lovers worry not: The famous Siesta Key Beach , made of 99% quartz, is right around here, as is the always beautiful Lido Key Beach .

Time Out tip : For a newer site, The Bay is a public park that opened its first phase in October 2022, with additional phases opening over the next decade. Vibe out on waterfront nature walks and mangrove-draped kayak treks.

5.  Havana, Cuba

Do you really need a reason to go to Cuba? How do endless amounts of delicious local rum (on the cheap) sound? If that's not your thing, you'll revel in beautiful architecture with a side of history, plus exciting food and walkable attractions. Also, Fusterlandia is a multifaceted public art utopia like no other. Sure, there are no truly accessible beaches in town, but who needs those when you're just an hour away from Miami by plane? (The rules and regulations around booking a trip here fluctuate, so make sure you do your research first.)

6.  Nassau, Bahamas

Board a flight from Miami and land in the beautiful capital of the Bahamas only an hour later. What to do while in town? After spending your days at the beach, admiring coral reefs and snorkeling, go walk around and notice the super photogenic, pastel-colored British colonial buildings that pepper the city. Make sure to include the Government House in your walking tour. The official residence of the Governor of the Bahamas, the ten-acre estate is also defined by the statue of Christopher Columbus up front, which was added to the property during a round of renovations in 1830.

Time Out tip: Make sure to hop over the bridge to Paradise Island, where the iconic Atlantis awaits. It celebrated its 25 th anniversary in 2023 and continues to impress.

7.  Delray Beach, Florida

This small-but-bumpin’ city less than 90 minutes away from Miami is mostly known for its dedication to art, as seen through the public installations and galleries that make the Pineapple Grove Arts District so unique. But, we promise, there's more: Partake in tea ceremonies and calligraphy workshops at the Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens ,  stroll the boardwalk to spot turtles and alligators down below at the Wakodahatchee Wetlands or  book a tour with one of the many cruise companies. When hunger beckons, explore the options on bustling  Atlantic Avenue. There's even a pinball museum , y’all.

8.  Islamorada, Florida Keys

If you're escaping Miami to delve into more water-based activities, consider taking a one-and-half-hour drive to Islamorada. Here, visit the Theater of the Sea , a marine mammal park where you get to swim with sharks, sea lions, dolphins and more. You might also want to buy some bait and go feed the tarpon from the dock at Robbie's Marina but if it's a bit of history that you're craving, take a short canoe or kayak trip to the 11-acre Indian Key Historic State Park to gaze in wonder at the remains of a shipwreck salvage community from the 1830s.

9.  St. Petersburg, Florida

Golfing! Fishing! Beaches! Boating! There is oh-so-much-to-do in this beautiful Gulf Coast city four hours away from Miami. If there is one thing that all visitors are keen to explore, it's the Dalí. Not only is it home to the largest collection of the artist Salvador Dalí's work outside of Europe, but the building itself is a piece of architectural art . Also make sure to visit the visually stunning Chihuly Collection , a museum filled with glass sculptures. The historical Sunken Gardens and the often-discussed Bob Graham Sunshine Skyway Bridge  are also worth checking out. For sports lovers, St. Pete is baseball heaven with spring training games galore.

10.  Naples, Florida

Miami residents can drive across Florida to Naples in a relatively short two hours. How convenient. Here are a few reasons to head here for the weekend: fishing off the historic Naples Pier (currently only partially open since being damaged by Hurricane Ian), the white-sand Naples Beach , the Naples Zoo at Caribbean Gardens and 5th Avenue South , the street from downtown to the beach that will tickle all of your dining and shopping-related senses.

11.  Tampa, Florida

With a thriving Latin population (Tampa is disputedly the birthplace of the Cuban sandwich), a balmy year-round climate and a buzzy nightlife scene to rival South Beach, Tampa is the city for Miamians who want to get away but don’t care to stray too far from the comforts of home (they even have a swanky Tampa EDITION Hotel). Spend some time learning about the area’s storied past either on a walking tour through Ybor City or by paying a visit to the Tampa Bay History Center , which you can access via streetcar for a bonus dose of antiquity.

12.  Savannah, Georgia

A seven-hour drive or 1.5-hour flight up Florida’s east coast will get you to the magical Southern city of Savannah, Georgia . While there are no end of fun things to keep you busy in Miami , Florida's second-largest city does make for a great base for day trips to explore the southernmost tip of the "Sunshine State."

From here, you're an easy drive away from other smaller resort towns in Florida . These include ritzy West Palm Beach, just over an hour due north and a lovely drive along the Atlantic shoreline, and the equally posh Naples, two hours due west on the Gulf of Mexico.

And, for those wanting to get away from the beach crowds, Miami is a hop, skip, and a jump to the famous Florida Everglades . This important natural resource covers an area of over 1.5 million acres of wetland and is home to a diverse variety of wildlife.

Miami also sits above another must-visit area: the Florida Keys . An easy drive around Biscayne Bay will take you on one of the most memorable roads anywhere: the Overseas Highway. This stunning 113-mile route starts more or less in Key Largo and follows the gently curving keys all the way to Key West, a tourist destination that is as famous for its tropical climate as it is for its liberal attitudes and lifestyles.

One of the top day trips from Miami for outdoor enthusiasts is to Biscayne National Park . It's located a fun boat ride away from downtown Miami, and although it's only accessible by water, it's close enough that you can view the city from here.

The park covers an area of over 173,000 acres and is home to a series of small islands that protect important mangrove forests and coral reefs. It also harbors diverse species of wildlife, including turtles and pelicans, along with larger creatures like dolphins in Biscayne Bay Lagoon itself.

The park is also a popular spot for divers, drawn by the excellent opportunities along the Maritime Heritage Trail. This underwater adventure involves a number of excellent dive sites around old shipwrecks.

For landlubbers, walking trails can be enjoyed that lead to sites like Boca Chita Lighthouse on Boca Chita Key, built in the 1930s and popular for its spectacular views. Other highlights include the Dante Fascell Visitor Center gallery and museum, which offers a variety of programs, including guided eco-tours and art workshops, and the historic, picturesque Jones family home.

Also of interest are the raised homes in Stiltsville, which were built on stilts over the water. Other fun things to do include camping on and hiking around the park's largest island, Elliott Key.

The drive along the Overseas Highway to Key West, a journey of some 113 miles, is definitely worth the 3.5 hours it takes. Much of this epic drive is on spectacular stretches of bridges, a breathtaking journey that only makes the time spent in the final destination all the more memorable.

There are of course a variety of other great ways to get from Miami to Key West , including by boat or by plane, or as part of an organized tour of this popular destination. But if you do drive, a word of advice: While it's possible to find parking near famous Duval Street, where much of the entertainment and touristy activities occur, it can be hit and miss.

If possible, plan on parking in any one of the larger parking areas outside Key West proper and make use of the frequent shuttle buses. Alternatively, splash out and rent one of the fun electric buggies you'll see zipping about the downtown core.

Start your Key West adventure by exploring the quirky delights of Duval Street and grab a bite at one of the many restaurants and food shacks along this famous stretch of road. A favorite is Frenchie's Café on United Street, just off the south end of Duval and not far from the famous Southernmost Point marker. This authentic French bakery and café does the best breakfasts and pastries.

Other fun things to do in Key West include visiting Ernest Hemingway's former home , now a great museum; the Key West Aquarium ; the excellent Key West Butterfly and Nature Conservatory ; or possibly even spending time at one of the many great beaches close by .

Best of all, it's possible to catch each of these top points of interest on foot. Walking around Key West has the added benefit of enabling you to explore the colorful Caribbean-inspired architecture that dominates Key West. Finally, be sure to make your way to Mallory Square in time to catch the sunset. Here, you'll find the always entertaining street performers on hand to celebrate the occasion, something that's done here 365 days a year.

For those wanting to experience Key West while letting someone else do the driving, consider joining an organized Miami to Key West Day Trip. In addition to being able to enjoy the scenery along the way, including the famous Seven Mile Bridge, you'll benefit from hotel pickup and transportation aboard an air-conditioned bus with tour guide and commentary, plus a variety of fun optional activities available as upgrades. After getting your fill of the seafront and attractions, such as Ragtops Motorcars or exploring the nearby Jonathan Dickinson State Park and Hobe Sound National Wildlife Preserve , it's time to explore the great shopping and entertainment available here. For a taste of real opulence, head to Worth Avenue. This ritzy enclave consists of boutique shops, art galleries, excellent restaurants, and yes, and even luxury yacht showrooms.

Fun things to do at night in West Palm beach include exploring CityPlace, a vast tourist attraction that is home to great entertainment opportunities, including live music, great dining, and plenty of places to shop. For those prepared to spend a full day or possibly even an overnight stay on a tropical island, an expedition to Bimini is a superb option. One of the top places to visit in the Bahamas , the Bimini islands are just 50 miles off Miami and are closer than the Bahamian capital of Nassau .

Best of all, they can be reached in just under two hours aboard a high-speed Bimini ferry from Miami. It's a delightful journey that's certainly affordable and allows for a full-day's exploration and is well worth it for the fun that awaits when you arrive at the docks at Resorts World Bimini.

Highlights of a visit to Bimini include getting in some deep sea fishing, something the islands have earned a reputation for among sport fishermen, drawn here from afar for international tournaments. Other fun things to do include joining a guided snorkeling adventure or honing your diving skills, with the chance to observe sea life such as dolphins up close.

Another interesting attraction is the Bimini Sharklab. This fascinating marine biology facility provides public access through guided tours. Admission is via a donation, but be sure to call or connect in advance to ensure availability.

Another extremely popular diving spot, Key Largo is just over an hour's drive south of Miami at the north end of the Florida Keys. The big draw for divers here are the extremely shallow waters and the abundance of coral reefs to explore, many within easy reach of the shore, with some Key Largo resorts having direct access to prime diving spots and offering diving instruction packages.

One of the top points of interest for serious divers is the John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park . Along with the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary , it offers numerous old wrecks and plentiful sea life to experience. These locations are also good for snorkelers, too.

Whether you travel a little farther south during your Key Largo day trip or squeeze in a visit on your way to Key west, Marathon in the Middle Keys is worth a stop. In fact, it'd be easy spending the best part of a day exploring its top wildlife-related attractions: the Dolphin Research Center , the Turtle Hospital , and Aquarium Encounters .

The Dolphin Research Center is probably the facility you'll want to spend the most time at as there's so much to see here. In addition to its importance as a rehabilitation center for injured Atlantic bottlenose dolphins, the center does a superb job of educating the public about these incredible creatures through informative talks, and question-and-answer sessions. Best of all, you can partake in unique opportunities to interact with them through feedings and even swim sessions.

And while the dolphins are encouraged to put on displays of their agility, their trainers are quick to point out that they do so voluntarily for a reward, making no two visits quite the same. A number of sea lions are also housed here, along with a great stingray touch tank, and times for displays and feedings are posted clearly, so you can plan your stay.

Founded in 1986, the fascinating Turtle Hospital has saved well over 1,500 turtles and is well worth a visit. In addition to learning more about the care and rehabilitation programs, guided tours take you behind the scenes to the hospital with the chance to feed some of its patients.

Afterwards, head over to the nearby Aquarium Encounters attraction for a chance to experience a variety of activities, including feeding and snorkeling tours. Marathon is also a popular sport fishing center, so consider booking an excursion while here. If possible, pay a visit to Bahia Honda State Park for its spectacular natural beaches .

Like Palm Beach on the Atlantic side of Florida, the Gulf Coast town of Naples has made a name for itself as a center of luxury lifestyles. An easy two-hour drive through the Everglades from Miami, its beaches, though, are certainly less busy, but equally attractive.

Top things to do on the many excellent beaches in Naples include sunbathing, swimming, paddleboarding, sea kayaking, or simply walking along the golden sands. A variety of parks with ample parking provide change facilities, picnic areas, and, in some cases, pleasant gardens to explore, and the town also boasts a nice pier.

The real fun, though, is dressing up a little as night falls and heading to fancy 5th Avenue. The town's downtown strip, 5th Avenue is a delight to explore as the sun sets over the Gulf of Mexico. You'll find many fine designer clothing stores, boutique shops, art and home décor galleries, and plenty of excellent alfresco dining options.

Also worth a visit if there's time in your day is Marco Island . Just 30 minutes' drive south of Naples, Marco Island is known for its superb beaches , withf perfect sand that's extremely wide in parts, making it a great place to relax awhile without the crowds. Located just 23 miles to the north of Miami, Fort Lauderdale makes a pleasant day trip from always busy Miami. Part of the attraction here is the unique network of waterways and canals that dissect the town, which can be explored simply by hopping aboard one of the water taxis that regularly ply the waters, moving people from place to place; it's a particularly fun experience at nighttime.

The city's beaches, though, are the big draw. There are numerous beaches to explore and enjoy in and around Fort Lauderdale , including the main beach with its wonderful promenade. And, having shed its one-time reputation as a place for college students to congregate during Spring Break, you're now more likely to bump into families and retirees as you wander the lengthy boardwalk.

Located a 50-minute drive north of Miami, the attractive coastal community of Boca Raton is another great day trip from Miami you should consider.

Miami may boast some of the best things to see and do in Florida , but it's also a great base for exploring some of the Sunshine State's other highlights.

Maybe a charming town and some unique experiences will take your fancy. Or you feel the need to get away from the hustle and bustle of Miami's busy streets (especially around spring break) to some wide open spaces.

While you may spot the occasional gator wandering out of a canal or have a muscovy duck come pester you at the local park, there much more impressive wildlife encounters beyond the city limits of Miami . No matter what you want out of a day trip from Magic City, we've got you covered.

1. Meet sea turtles in Juno Beach and Jupiter

Travel time: 1 hour and 30 minutes

For one of the best family day trips near Miami, venture north to Juno Beach and visit Loggerhead Marine Life Center , dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and release of local sea turtles. It's a great space for seeing these magnificent creatures up close.

For more adorable animal encounters, Jupiter's Loxahatchee River Center features interactive exhibits, touch tanks, and live aquatic tanks where visitors can view and learn about local marine ecosystems. You can also head to Blowing Rocks Preserve , where you can see the largest Anastasia limestone shoreline on the Atlantic, blasting saltwater upward of 50 feet into the air.

For family-friendly eats, stop in at Juno Beach Cafe or Jetty's Waterfront Restaurant (the latter of which has a fantastic view of the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse ), and Jupiter Donut Factory for a tasty treat.

How to get to Juno Beach and Jupiter from Miami:  It's possible to take the TriRail from Miami up to West Palm Beach and make the rest of the journey in a Lyft or cab. But the most convenient option is driving (yours or a rental).

2. Explore coral reefs in three ways in Key Largo

Travel time: 1 hour 30 minutes (driving), 3 hours (public transport)

Key Largo is home to John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park , a mostly underwater park home to brightly colored coral reefs that can be enjoyed in several ways. Get a glimpse via the underwater cam that live-streams into the nature center (and online) or book tickets for their renowned glass-bottom boat tours. Be aware these sell out quickly, but there are other glass-bottom boat tour providers near the park.

Those who prefer a closer look at the reefs are welcome to snorkel or even scuba dive in the park. You can easily spend a full day in Largo, and if you do, grab a seafood meal at a waterfront spot like Sundowners and Snooks, or something tucked away from the crowds like the quirky Mrs. Mac's.

How to get to Key Largo from Miami:  If you're anywhere near the Metrorail, it's possible to take it as far south as Dadeland, board the Route 38 bus further south and then transfer to the 301 (which can take you to Key Largo). If you're short on patience, shuttle buses like Greyhound and Flixbus can take you south slightly faster. Driving yourself is the quickest option for those short on time.

3. Have an all-day date in Fort Lauderdale

Travel time: 45 minutes

Less than an hour's journey north from Miami lies Fort Lauderdale – the perfect option for a quick romantic getaway.

Start with a stroll through the lush grounds of the Bonnet House , a quiet sanctuary complete with a butterfly garden. From there, whisper sweet nothings to your beau aboard the Las Olas Gondola  before sneaking in a romantic meal at Burlock Coast or The Katherine .

And finally, choose your own adventure: heart-pumping fun at Xtreme Action Park (complete with go-karts, laser tag and escape rooms), live entertainment at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts (musicals, plays, ballets and then some), or a bit of gambling, comedy and music at Seminole Hard Rock Casino .

How to get to Fort Lauderdale from Miami:  As is the case for most destinations in Florida, having your own vehicle gives you the best flexibility. However, you can visit Fort Lauderdale by booking a ticket on the Tri-Rail or Brightline train and then using a car-share service to get around town.

4. Get away from it all, Everglades style

Travel time: 60 to 90 minutes

This massive national park extends far beyond Miami-Dade County limits, and if you want to get the full experience, you'll need at least a day. Start your day at the Ernest F. Coe Visitor Center to learn about the park and then walk along some of their nearby paved trails (make sure to try a milkshake from Robert Is Here or some bites at Everglades Gator Grill along the way).

Shark Valley Visitor Center is another beginner-friendly spot – you can rest your legs on a tram tour, hire some bikes and explore the area on two wheels, or even opt for an airboat ride (try Miccosukee Airboats ).

You'll get plenty of opportunities to see alligators, anhingas, turtles and more at either center, but if you want a more immersive experience, drive south to Flamingo, where hiking trails, kayaking, boating, camping and even on-site dining and accommodations ( Flamingo Lodge and Restaurant , should you feel so inclined) can all be found.

How to get to Everglades National Park from Miami:  Unfortunately, there are no public transit options to get from Miami to any of the Everglades visitor centers. Depending on traffic, it's just over an hour's drive west of Miami.

5. Explore a Bahamian island via golf cart in Bimini

Travel time: 2 hours and 40 minutes

Whether you've lived in South Florida a while or are just visiting, you may have wondered, "Can I day trip to the Bahamas from Miami?" The answer is yes! The journey is a bit longer than the rest of these day trips, involving a quick journey north to Fort Lauderdale and hopping on a ferry to Bimini.

Once there, you can rent a golf cart to explore all you can during your full day on the island. Snorkel around the wreckage of the Sapona (a concrete ship built during WWI), dine on conch at Joe's Conch Shack or grab a slice at Edith's Pizza, snap photos of the art at the Dolphin House Museum, and bask in the sun at Radio Beach.

You can also rent a day pass at Resorts World Bimini to enjoy their casino and other on-site amenities (but be warned, this might make you want to extend your trip for another day or two).

How to get to Bimini from Miami:  If you own a boat (or know someone who does), it's possible to sail to Bimini. If not, take the Brightline train to reach Fort Lauderdale in 40 minutes and then board the  Balearia ferry service for quick and easy passage to the island (don't forget to pack your passport).

Miami is by far the most happening city in South Florida. From the picturesque beaches to the restaurants, bars, clubs, shopping, and architecture, you can always find something to do in this world-class locale. But, why limit yourself? When spending time down in Miami , there are plenty of other fun day trips just an hour or less distance from the city. Explore the beaches of the Florida Keys, or watch a rocket launch into space — South Florida is filled with exciting adventures. 

The Florida Keys: Snorkel in Key Largo

Take a ride down to the Florida Keys and enjoy a day of water fun. The truth is, water sports can be done at pretty much any beach Florida, but the Keys are in a league of their own. From the laid-back island vibe to the world-class coral reefs, it’s definitely worth a day trip. The closest Key from Miami is Key Largo, where you can catch a scuba or snorkeling day trip out to  John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park . 

Getting There:  Key Largo is about an hour and twenty-minute drive from Miami. It’s a straight drive across the Overseas Highway — truly a sight to be seen. There is also a shuttle service that leaves from the Miami International Airport throughout the day. Plan ahead and make a reservation to ensure you have a spot.

Travel Tip:  Beware of traffic heading down to the Keys. If you’re planning your day trip over a weekend or a holiday, be sure to leave early in the morning, otherwise the hour and twenty-minute trip will probably take you double that. Another important thing to remember is that there are no rest stops on the Overseas Highway until you hit the Keys, so make sure you don’t need a bathroom and you’ve packed plenty of car snacks. 

Bimini: Go Diving With a Hammerheads

Just 50 miles from Miami is the small Bahamian island of Bimini . It’s not the most popular island in the Bahamas, but this small paradise has a lot to offer. On your day trip to  Bimini  you’ll feel like an explorer uncovering unchartered territory. From snorkeling around shipwrecks off the coast, to diving with hammerheads, to hiking through the island’s  visitors’ trail , you’re bound to discover something new to you. Of course, you can’t leave Bimini without eating like a local — don't miss the conch ceviche, a signature snack on the island, or the lobster pizza at Edith’s.

Getting There:  The best way to get to Bimini is by boat. It’s about a two-hour boat ride. Day trips usually depart around 9 a.m. and leave Bimini about 8 p.m. that night. A round trip ticket is about $120 and usually you can get day passes to The Hilton Resort on the beach as well. 

Travel Tip:  Bimini is actually a series of three small islands — North Bimini, South Bimini, and East Bimini. The largest is North Bimini, which is also home to Alice Town and the main drag (the King's Highway) filled with bars, restaurants, and shops. Be sure to head there on your day trip. 

Everglades National Park: Bike Through Shark Valley

Bike riding is a common Florida activity. Bike riding through an alligator infested pathway? Not as common. But, at Shark Valley, the 15-mile scenic loop around Everglades National Park , you can do exactly that. About halfway through the paved loop you’ll hit a concrete lookout tower where visitors can climb to the top and take in an amazing view of the Everglades . Bathrooms and water fountains are located inside the tower. Remember, you will see a lot of alligators along this path. Even if they seem calm stay at least 15 feet away, they’re still live gators!

Getting There:  Shark Valley is about an hour drive outside of Miami. There are two entrances: U.S. 41 Tamiami Trail in Miami or the Gulf Coast entrance on Oyster Bar Lane in Everglades City. For exact directions, visit the  Shark Valley visitor’s page . 

Travel Tip:  The bike loop path at Shark Valley takes about 2-3 hours, so make sure you’re prepared ahead of time with snacks and water. For those who may not be up for the extended bike ride, there is a guided tram that leaves from the visitor’s center.

Space Coast: Watch a Rocket Launch

Head up to the Space Coast for a day of sun, surf, and space! Besides Cocoa Beach, a haven for surfers, head to the Kennedy Space Center in Titusville. This is the location of rocket launches into space, which is definitely a sight to be seen. Check the  Kennedy Space Center  site to find out when the next launch will be so you can plan your visit accordingly. But, even if you don’t visit on a day that a rocket is being launched, touring the space center is fun for all ages. Explore mission control, go inside a real space capsule, and learn about famous NASA pioneers. 

Getting There:  Cape Canaveral is about a 3-hour drive from Miami. But, even if you don’t have a car, it’s still doable in a day. There are tours that offer round trip rides starting at about $150 per person. Reservations are required.  

Travel Tip:  If you’re goal is to watch a rocket launch, make sure you check that viewing is available. Due to certain launch times and schedule constraints, NASA does not always allow visitors to watch in the seating areas. 

Palm Beach: Kayak to Peanut Island

Although Palm Beach is filled with classy shopping, award-winning restaurants, and million-dollar homes, there is more to do there than just gawk at the lifestyles of the rich and famous. For a fun day activity, rent kayaks at the Riviera Beach marina and head out to Peanut Island. It’s about a 20-minute kayak ride. Once you’ve reached the island there’s snorkeling, nature trails, and a relaxing beach. Bring all the supplies and food you’ll need because there’s not much on the island other than bathrooms. While there make sure to visit the once top-secret Kennedy Bunker. It’s a true historical relic. 

Getting There:  Just head north up I-95 for about an hour and you’re there. A  Greyhound  bus is available as well as the  Tri-Rail .

Travel Tip:  Head back to Miami on A1A and you’ll pass all the beautiful and opulent mansions that line the water. 

Fort Lauderdale: Hang Out on Las Olas Boulevard

Fort Lauderdale may have once been a spring break mecca of non-stop drinking and partying. But, in recent years, the city has really cleaned up its act. Today, The Strip, better known as Las Olas Boulevard, is no longer home to seedy vendors and questionable people, instead it’s transformed into beach-y walking area with boutique shops, specialty ice cream stores, and tasty restaurants. At night, the area glows with lights, live music, and a young crowd. 

Getting There:  Miami to Fort Lauderdale is about 40-minutes. The  Tri-Rail is also available. It leaves from the Miami Airport Station and makes three stops in Fort Lauderdale. 

Travel Tip:  During high season, which is usually from Thanksgiving through New Years, the downtown area of Las Olas can get a bit busy with tourists and visitors. Plan accordingly and if you can avoid having a car, you’re better off. Parking can be tough.

Naples: Relax and Unwind

When the hustle and bustle of Miami get too much, head west to the relaxing Gulf Coast. Naplesis a low-key city with beautiful homes, a picturesque pier, and lots of white sandy beaches. Enjoy your day in Naples by renting bikes and heading to the pier or playing a round of golf. You’ll find an array of people fishing off the sides, tanning on the sand, or swimming in the warm Gulf water. The downtown area is quaint with cute shops and lots of outdoor eateries. Things close pretty early here, so you’ll know when it’s time to start heading back east.  

Getting There:  Head west across I-75 to hit Naples. It’s about a 2-hour drive.  Greyhound  buses are available for about $30 one way. 

Travel Tip:  Although Naples is small, it’s a rather affluent area, so if you plan on sticking around till dinner time, make sure you have a nicer outfit packed to change into for the restaurant — unless of course you’re only planning on getting pizza.   

Homestead and Redland: Enjoy the Exotic Wine

The Redland region is right at the entrance to Everglades National Park. The area is filled with exotic fruit orchards, wineries, old Florida charm — you’d never guess you were only about 45 minutes from Miami proper. While in Homestead, visit  Phil’s Berry Farm  or  Knaus Berry Farm and Bakery , they’re down the road from each other and both sell amazing baked goods like monkey bread, guava pies, and pecan rolls. Visit the Cauley Square Historic Railroad Village too if you have the time. The area is a blast into the past of dreamy old Florida, with refurbished railroad cars, tropical gardens, and antique outdoor statues. Of course, a day trip to Redland wouldn’t be complete without a trip to  Schnebly Redland’s Winery . These wines are grape-less and instead are made with more Florida-esque fruits, like mango, avocado, lychee, and passion fruit. 

Getting There:  The best way to get to Homestead and the Redlands is driving. Even if it means renting a car for the day, it’s worth it. The drive is about 45-minutes and parking in the are isn’t usually an issue. 

Travel Tip:  Don’t leave the Redlands without stopping at  Robert Is Here . The exotic fruit stand right outside of Everglades National Park sells all types of exotic, fresh fruit like persimmons, sapodilla, and lychees. You can also get a combo of pretty much anything in a shake. 

Grand Bahama: Swim With Wild Pigs

On the off chance that you get bored of the beautiful Miami beaches, or maybe you are looking for something a little more laid back, a day trip to Grand Bahama or Freeport may be just what you’re looking for. Spend the day relaxing by the clear, blue water or swim with wild pigs in Freeport. Get your Caribbean foo fix in while there, too. 

Getting There:  Speedboats and cruises  leave from Miami daily for Grand Bahama. For about $80 one way, you can spend the day in the Bahamas and be home by dinner time. If you book a tour with an all-inclusive cruise group, they will often pick you up at your hotel and bring you to the boat. The trip is about 3 hours long. 

Travel Tip:  Since it can get uncomfortable being beach clothes all day, consider buying a  day pass  to one of the resorts in the area. This way you can shower in the locker rooms and change out of wet beach clothes before heading on the ferry home.  

Delray Beach: Hit up Atlantic Avenue

No matter your style, you’ll find something you love in Delray Beach. This city is the perfect combination of upscale meets laid back, and Atlantic Avenue has it all. This beachside drag is fun any time of day. Outdoor spaces and fresh food take up the sidewalks during the day, and at night the street comes alive with lit-up palm trees and live music. During the summer and holiday season there are shows at the bandstand by the water. 

Getting There:  Head north from Miami for about an hour and you’ll hit Delray. There is a Greyhound bus, although it is probably easiest to rent a car or take an Uber. Parking on Atlantic can get a bit crowded during high season, but there are a couple of municipal lots with 3-hour time limit meters. 

Travel Tip:  Atlantic Avenue transforms at night. Start your day by the beach and enjoy lunch at  Boston’s  or  Caffé Luna Rosa . But don’t stay by the water for dinner, head further up the street, past the train tracks, and enjoy the party-scene at  Salt  or  Rocco’s Tacos . 

Biscayne National Park: Explore the Underwater World

Considered part of the northern Florida Keys, Biscayne National Park is an 173,000-acre national park located about an hour south of Miami. It’s made up of about 95% water and the rest is mangrove forests and small barrier islands. Visiting Biscayne National Park is like jumping into a water wonderland — from eco-adventure snorkeling, fishing, and kayaking through mangroves you’ll forget you’re just an hour out of the bustling city of Miami. 

Getting There:  Traffic out of Miami can be heavy, so keep that in mind when planning your trip. Allow extra time when travelling on weekends, holidays or rush hour.

Imagine spending a day on a white sand beach filled with exotic seashells while pelicans fly overhead. Well, that day is easily attainable on Marco Island . The small barrier island off the coast of Naples doesn’t offer much in the way of activities, but the beaches here are so peaceful you won’t need anything else to do. Make sure to hit up Tiger Tail Beach, it’s one of the most popular beaches in the area and offers visitors amenities like parking, a shaded playground, grills, and a picnic area. Sand Dollar Island is a must visit, too. The island is actually a small tidal lagoon that you can actually walk through because the water is so shallow. It’s a great place for bird watching, too. 

Getting There:  Definitely drive here! It’s about two hours west from Miami and it’s easiest to get around the island with your own vehicle.

Miami has so much to offer, we wouldn't blame you for not wanting to budge the second your feet hit South Beach, the Design District , or Wynwood . Yet if you've made it to this part of Florida, it seems silly not to fit in a few other nearby gems while you're in town. From the lesser-known key of Islamorada to the wetlands of the famous Everglades, to low-key Fort Lauderdale just a half hour away, these three spots make perfect Miami day trips. FORT LAUDERDALE

While many Florida-bound travelers find themselves debating whether to stay in Miami or Fort Lauderdale, we have a better question: Why not both? Though the cities are only 30 miles apart, they are distinct. Fort Lauderdale has its own five-star resorts, critically acclaimed restaurants, and iconic cultural institutions, but its vibe is much more laid-back. That is probably why it’s such a popular destination for Miamians looking to “get away” from the city. Think of it as Miami’s more down-to-earth sister city—then visit both to see the difference for yourself.

Sparrow Arrow

Make your way to the top of The Dalmar hotel and you’ll find Sparrow, a sophisticated rooftop bar that offers panoramic views of the city and the sea. If you’re visiting from New York , it’s not unthinkable that you’d bump into someone who shares your block back home. But the bar has gained a massive following of locals too. Gorgeous scenery aside, the cocktails are what draw customers in and keep them coming back. Sparrow uses local ingredients, for its remade classics and inventions alike. For example, the one-of-a-kind A1A: Patron and sherry with celery, lime, jalapeño, and bit of salt on the rim. Rest assured, these drink-makers know what they’re doing and the flavors always come together—no matter how out-there the recipe may sound.

The Ritz-Carlton, Fort Lauderdale Arrow

Hello, views! While your first inclination when checking into a hotel is usually to go right to your room and make sure it passes muster, walking straight toward the pool area, which overlooks (and overhangs) the ocean, is the first thing you'll want to do here. While most of the hotel’s nearly 200 rooms and suites have some sort of view, it might be just a partial one or a glimpse of the Intracoastal Waterway. That's fine… but you deserve better. Splurge on an oceanfront suite, it's well worth the cost.

Bonnet House Museum & Gardens Arrow

Art, history, and the outdoors collide at this stunning, 35-acre beachfront estate-turned-museum. The former home of artists Frederic and Evelyn Barlett gives visitors the chance to step back in time to the early 20th century, when Old Florida architecture ruled the Sunshine State’s skylines and “urban sprawl” wasn’t a thing (the property is home to one of the South Florida’s last native barrier island ecosystems).

Steak 954 Arrow

Located inside the W Fort Lauderdale , Steak 954 is proof that not all great steakhouses need to have the same old masculine feel. You don’t use the word “steak” in your restaurant’s name unless you know what to do with one. And restaurateur Stephen Starr didn’t get to where he is today by sheer luck. The restaurant has more than 10 types of steak on offer; the 50-day dry-aged bone-in New York strip steak being the oldest, and the 32-ounce, 40-day dry aged porterhouse for two being the most expensive. Dig in!

While most trips down the Overseas Highway have Key West set as the final stop, you don’t need to spend 12 hours in the car to catch a glimpse of the Florida Keys. Instead, hit up Islamorada. Located halfway between Miami and Key West, about 90 minutes from Miami Beach, this picturesque key is known for its fishing, though we’re happy just hand-feeding the hungry tarpon that congregate at Robbie’s Marina . 

The Moorings Village Arrow

While some travelers live for the joy of meeting fellow jet-setters when they go anywhere, others prefer to exist in seclusion. Guests of The Moorings Village fall into that latter category. Though it’s located on an 18-acre stretch of waterfront land, the resort only has eight private stand-alone villas, which truly makes it feel like you’ve got the place to yourself. (Not to mention the added privacy provided by more than 800 coconut palms, which works out to about 42.1 trees per villa.) With in-room perks like ocean views, porches with hammocks, king-size beds covered in pillows, and galley kitchens, we wouldn’t blame you if you never wanted to leave. Throw in a private beach, complimentary bicycles, and on-site kayaks, and The Moorings Village really is the next-best option to owning your own oceanfront Keys villa.

Walking into Pierre’s, which occupies the top floor of a gorgeous house overlooking Florida Bay, it’s easy to see why the restaurant has been a favorite spot for celebration meals and romantic nights out for decades. With its soothing candlelit tables, Pierre’s design aesthetic—much like its menu—takes inspiration from around the world, with beautifully carved entryways and artifacts from Morocco , India, and elsewhere. As with most restaurants in the Keys , the seafood is the standout; start with a chilled seafood tower to sample a little bit of everything. 

The Tiki Bar at Cheeca Lodge Arrow

If you go to the Florida Keys and don’t order a rum runner while sitting under a palapa, were you even there? There’s no reason to chance it, really. And The Tiki Bar at Cheeca Lodge is an enviable spot to soak in all the sunny indulgences the Keys have to offer. At any other serious bar, in any other place, the idea of a frozen cocktail is almost laughable. But they’re a popular choice at the Tiki Bar. However, it’s not just about kitsch here; an impressive menu of handcrafted cocktails makes use of the area’s bounty of fresh fruit to mix and muddle into blueberry mojitos or mango mules.

Gators and panthers and dolphins, oh my! If you can remember all the way back to your school science class, you may have spent some time talking about the Everglades and how they are North America’s largest wetlands ecosystem. Seeing the park for yourself is another thing altogether. Whether you explore the park on your own at Everglades National Park or hop one of Everglades Safari Park’s airboat tours of this River of Grass, you’ll undoubtedly come away with a genuine appreciation for this magical stretch of unspoiled land.

While it may seem like a totally “touristy” thing to do, it would be a shame to come all the way to Miami and not pay a visit to what is undoubtedly one of the country’s most famous national parks. Occupying 1.5 million prime acres of Southern Florida, these famed wetlands, just an hour from South Beach , are home to hundreds of species of plants and wildlife—many of them endangered. Though you can see much of the park via boat, bike, or tram, you’ll want to be prepared for the experience. That means coming with comfortable shoes, pants and a long-sleeved shirt, sunscreen, sunglasses, bug spray, a hat, plenty of water, and lots of curiosity.

Schnebly Redland’s Winery & Brewery Arrow

By now, you surely know whether you prefer red wine or white. What you probably don’t know is whether you prefer it made of passionfruit, coconut, mango, lychee, guava, or avocado. But you’ll find out fast enough at Schnebly, where the claim to fame is wine made with fruit beyond grapes. It’s less than an hour from Miami, but a visit to Schnebly Redland’s Winery & Brewery feels like another world. Grab a seat in the luxurious outdoor garden and discover Miami’s early days as a swampland.

It would be a shame to come to “the sport fishing capital of the world” and not make at least one finned friend. In Islamorada, Robbie’s Marina is the place where all that fishing action goes down. If you’re game to cast a rod and see what happens, the collection of docks is home to a variety of fishing boat tours and charters, including tarpon and shark fishing, offshore sportfishing, and party boat fishing. Boats are captained and guided by total pros who know these waters like no one else. If fishing isn’t your thing, there’s also snorkeling, parasailing, and eco-sunset tours.

Lorelei Restaurant & Cabana Bar Arrow

You came to the Florida Keys for the water views and the sunsets, and Lorelei Restaurant has both, plus the freshest seafood around. The Florida Bay views are pristine and the menu is a perfect mix of tropical dishes (try the conch chowder and smoked fish dip). If colorful cocktails lure you, the rum punch (coconut and dark rums, grenadine, pineapple juice, and orange juice) and Bahama mama (silver, gold, coconut, and 151 rums with pineapple, orange, and Key lime juices) are solid choices.

City Seafood Arrow

This shabby-chic, waterfront seafood joint is one part restaurant and one part seafood market, leaving no guessing game as to where the food on your plate is coming from (or how fresh it is). In a way, it’s about as far from Miami’s flashy food scene as you can get, even if it’s only an hour or so away. But with its dockside dining room, picnic table seating, and meals served up on plastic trays and in baskets, it’s a delightfully rustic throwback to Magic City’s early swampland days.

Fruit & Spice Park Arrow

Nature lovers and foodies come together at this one-of-a-kind botanical garden in Homestead, which is as much a feast for the taste buds as it is for the eyes. In addition to boundless beauty, these 37 acres feature a unique tropical climate, allowing more than 500 varieties of fruits, vegetables, spices, herbs, and nuts from around the world to grow and thrive here. So it’s not surprising that the park regularly hosts a range of food festivals and events, including the annual Redland Summer Fruit Festival and Redland Fish Fry.

The Ivey House Arrow

This cozy, 18-room bed and breakfast caters specifically to travelers with adventure on the brain. It’s not The Ritz-Carlton , but there’s something kind of quaint about the old-timey Florida feel of it all. Sure, the décor is a little over the top with its bright, tropical jungle prints that seem to want to remind you, “Hey, you’re in Florida!” But somehow it works for The Ivey House, the no-brainer choice if you want a clean and spacious room to come back to after a tiring day in the Everglades .

Driving directions  to Miami cruise port & parking

When navigating to PortMiami, enter the address into your GPS ( 1015 North America Way, Miami, FL, 33132 ), and follow the directions. Once you arrive, park closest to Terminal V. If you’re taking an Uber, taxi, shuttle, or other form of transportation from your hotel, you can get dropped off directly in front of Terminal V, at 718 N Cruise Blvd, Miami, FL 33132. 

Wherever you started your journey, once you’ve made it to Florida, getting to the Miami cruise port is easy. PortMiami has special parking for each Cruise Terminal, with designated disabled spaces in every garage and spots for oversized vehicles in Surface Lot E. On cruise departure days, a shuttle service is even available to get you from the parking lot to your cruise. It’s recommended to arrive at PortMiami at least two hours in advance of your embarkation time, to account for any delays caused by traffic. MIAMI – Fleet Week kicked off Sunday in Miami and we’re giving you a sneak peek of all of the exciting things you’ll be able to see this week.

Local 10′s Jenise Fernandez got a full tour of the USS Bataan as it headed into port.

In true military style, she arrived in an MH-60 Sierra helicopter as the USS Bataan was just off the coast of Miami.

The ship is massive, carrying about 2,600 men and women of the Navy and the Marines.

“What those sailors get to experience and delve right into the culture of Miami, meet the folks here, tell them what they do for a living. It’s so important,” Adm. Daryl Caudle, Commander, U.S. Fleet Forces, said.

It’s ready for deployment at any moment. In fact, it just came back from an 8-month deployment in the Persian Gulf.

“The baton just came back from deployment, a 7+-month deployment on the ship, within an amphibious radius group and a marine expeditionary unit, who conducted operations in the Mediterranean, and in the Persian Gulf. So they were right in the thick of things,” Caudle said.

As part of Fleet Week, the crew onboard will spend the next seven days seeing the South Florida sights while also welcoming the public onboard to get a glimpse of life in the Navy.

“I love it, this is great,” said Jimmu Montana, who was aboard the ship on the first public tour offered on Monday. “And being in Miami, I have been her for 40 years, and having a show this size is awesome.”

The USS Bataan is a working ship, but it’s also where the sailors live, but now, they’re getting to stretch those sea legs.

“I am very anxious. I haven’t seen the family in over 10 months, so this will be the first time they’ve seen me in quite some time -- since last summer,” Chief Logistics Specialist Donald Eugene said.

Eugene is from North Miami. A graduate of Miami Dade College, he is looking forward to helping inspire the next generation.

“I don’t think there’s any job out there that’s gonna allow you to travel as much as we do on the government’s dime,” Eugene said.

And the same goes for Senior Chief Carlos Augusto Rivas, who has been with the Navy for 23 years. He was born in Nicaragua, but raised in Miami.

“I thought I wasn’t going to be able to do a lot, being an immigrant. The Navy opened doors that I never imagined I could open,” Rivas said.

Senior Chief Petty Officer Jonathan Graziano enlisted in the Navy after graduating from Coral Gables Senior High School.

“Being able to come back now after a little bit over 16 years has been a great opportunity, to just be one of the first ones to bring the inaugural fleet week to Miami,” he said. “To be able to showcase, not just only our capabilities, but also just how much pride of defending the country there is on board the USS Bataan.”

The men said they are grateful for the opportunities and excited to enjoy home.

“Just the warm weather and a little bit of Miami love,” Rivas said.

As for Eugene, he said he’s of Haitian decent and is looking forward to having one of his home country’s traditional dishes.

Formula 1 Sensation Charles Leclerc Is Buying a Waterfront Home in Miami

Formula 1 race car champ Charles Leclerc will be living the high life in Miami.

The 26-year-old phenom is buying a waterfront home at the Edition Residences in Miami’s Edgewater neighborhood, a personal milestone that Leclerc  announced on Instagram  to his 15 million followers.

“Miami, feeling at home already … Can’t wait,” he posted in a photo slideshow that received 1.37 million likes.

However, the price he’s paying for the residence is undisclosed. Homes at the 55-story glass tower start at $2 million.

Leclerc, for his part, is buying one of the tower’s “signature” sky residences—which begin at $3.1 million. They range from 2,315 square feet to 2,709 square feet. The smaller signature units have two bedrooms, 2½ baths and a den. The others boast three bedrooms and 3½ baths.

The tower, at 2121 North Bayshore Dr., will be 649 feet high and will come with 800 feet of Biscayne Bay frontage. Designed by architect Bernardo Fort-Brescia with interiors by Alessandro Munge, it’s slated to be move-in ready by 2027.

Leclerc may enjoy the fact the development features a “state-of-the-art racing simulator” as part of its sprawling 45,000-square-foot indoor/outdoor amenity space.

Miami has plenty of Formula 1 fans. The Magic City  just wrapped up its third F1 Miami Grand Prix on a $40 million custom track funded by real estate mogul and Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross in 2022. Leclerc came in third on Sunday after Lando Norris in first place and Max Verstappen in second.

“A little bit of blue and 2 trophies to take back home. Miami, thank you,” Leclerc also  posted on Instagram , under a photo of himself holding one of the trophies up high.

This Edition property is the global hotel brand’s first independent collection of luxury condo residences.

Amenities for the 185 units include an indoor/outdoor poolside garden lounge with a wet bar, a cabana-lined pool, a cinema and golf simulators. There’s also a gym with private training studios and areas for yoga and spinning. Residents will additionally get onsite fine dining as well as a library lounge and six guest suites.
