Next-Gen Force Traveller Launch Expected Soon

The next-generation Force Traveller, based on the new ‘T1N’ platform, was recently spotted testing on the streets of India

Back at the 2020 Auto Expo, Force Motors had showcased its “next generation shared mobility platform ” . Christened T1N, this new platform is a monocoque architecture that can support IC engines as well as all-electric powertrains. At the Expo, an electric minibus based on this platform was showcased, and now, it seems like its testing for India is underway.

The ‘T1N’ platform had taken around four years to develop, with an investment of over Rs. 1,000 crore. It was initially designed with a focus on exports, but we expect vehicles based on this architecture to go on sale in the Indian market as well, especially with the aggressive push for electrification in the Indian automobile industry these days.

The test model – expected to be next-gen Force Traveller – in these spy pictures looks identical to the pre-production model showcased at the last Auto Expo. We see the same headlamps, front grille, blacked-out front bumper with integrated fog lamps, sleek vertical taillights, boxy silhouette, and sideways-opening twin tailgate here.

The interior of the next-gen model will be a significant improvement over the current-gen Traveller. The HVAC system will likely be more powerful, and it gets four vents on the dashboard, with ceiling-mounted vents for the rear passenger as well. The instrument console gets a digital MID, and we also see an infotainment screen in the middle (not sure if it would be a touchscreen system).

The next-generation Force Traveller is expected to have a lot of safety features on offer. These will include ventilated disc brakes on all wheels, ABS with EBD, ESP, EDTC, dual front airbags, and adjustable steering (tilt and telescopic). It will also get independent suspension at the front, with transverse parabolic springs at the rear.

The powertrain details have not been revealed yet, although we expect the brand’s 2.6-litre turbo-diesel engine to be carried forward from the existing Traveller. This Mercedes-Benz-derived mill comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Other than that, the manufacturer had previously stated that a CNG option would be offered as well, alongside an all-electric powertrain.

We expect the next-gen Force Traveller to be priced at a significant premium over the existing one. It will likely be available in multiple seating configurations, perhaps eventually, so that buyers would be able to choose the version that would best suit their needs.

Force Motors unveils all-new 'Traveller' with BS 6 diesel and electric engines

Force Motors, the market leader in the inter-city commuter vans space, on Wednesday unveiled an all new premium model of its popular van Traveller with BS 6 diesel powertrain and electric engine options, developed over the past four years with a project investment of over ₹ 1,000 crore.

The yet-to-be named 18-seater van will begin commercial production towards the end of the year and will be showcased at the forthcoming Auto Expo in Delhi, the company said.

Presently christened T1N, the van will be export-focused and the Firodias, who were the pioneers of three-wheeler autorickshaws in the 1950s, will begin shipping the van, which boasts of 25 industry-first features, to the Gulf markets where it is already present, Prasan Firodia, managing director at Force Motors and the son of company chairman Abhay Firodia, told PTI.

The other focus market will be North Africa, South Africa, Asean, South America and the Saarc region, he said, adding from a regulatory compliance perspective it can be sold in Europe, the Far East and the US.

Firodia refused the reveal the price or the battery range saying the vehicle in not ready for commercial production. Its present 18-seater Traveller is priced at around ₹ 15 lakh.

Whether a higher pricing will be detrimental in a falling market like the present one, he said, "their primary focus will be exports as we want to use this van to be our springboard to become a global automotive company".

He also ruled out cannibalisation of the existing models saying there is market for every model as has been their experience with Trax and Traveller so far which offer 9-seaters to 26-seaters now.

The Pune-based company is the largest van maker in the country with 68 per cent market share and nets almost 50 per cent of its income from its engine supply business with Mercedes and BMW now.

In the quarter to September, Force Motors reported a 5.6 per cent drop on revenue at ₹ 818 crore while its net income plunged 84 per cent to ₹ 4.2 crore.

"The T1N was triggered about four years ago with the objective to develop a truly world-class shared mobility platform that would be ahead of current offerings and raise the bar in terms of passenger comfort, convenience and safety to international standards," the senior Firodia said while unveiling the project.

The junior Firodia said the company has invested more than ₹ 1,000 crore in developing the new van, which will be built at its Pithampur near Indore plant where it is building an entirely new body shop with robotic and laser welding facilities with an installed capacity of 35,000 units.

"We are the first domestic auto company to develop an all grounds-up next generation monocoque panel van platform, which will host many more models going ahead," the chairman said.

The managing director later told PTI that over the next two years, the new platform will come out with two new models in the shared mobility space and those will be unveiled at the forthcoming Auto Expo in Delhi.

On the capex plan, he said they have lined up around ₹ 600 crore for the next two years to develop these models.

The van is the first in this category offering crash and rollover compliance with air bags for driver and co-driver even though current laws does not mandate them. The van boasts of many more features developed in consultation with leading technology specialists and domain experts from Italy, Spain, Britain, Germany, Japan and the US.

Let me introduce myself: Liza, the Russian redhead. I was born and raised in Moscow, I arrived in Paris in 2001, travelling on the cloud of my culture.

From the very beggining, I noted that Russian cultural offer was still limited to matrioshkas and The Swan Lake. So, there is a spot to be taken! Russian contemporary photography, any idea? On my own, I was discovering, step by step, the artists, their works, I was selecting the   works possessing a visual and artistic force, contemporary and timeless at the same time. Passion, soul and love are the key concepts to capture this mysterious country. I am convinced that its art is an enlightening mirror of the state of the things and an entrance key to its aprehension. 

When I was little, I wanted to be a crane operator, watch everything from a vertiginous height, and to direct an important process by constructing buildings.

In 2007, I discovered how I can achieve my childhood dream: I opened a photography gallery in Paris. I am a discovering type of gallerist (rare species). By dipping into the chaotic waves of the internet, I observe, I sort, I choose artists, I present their works to the public, to the press and to the collectors.

Many of the artists I represent had their first proper gallery show with Russiantearoom. The most remarkable success was the discovery of Oleg DOU, one of the brightest of his generation, with his own signature and vision. But I also showed Sergey Maximishin photographs outside of photojournalistic context, his images being true tableaux. Or I reintrouduced to the new public the master of humanist photography Antanas Sutkus, with several exhibitions, and strong publications in Le Monde, Figaro, Images, Eyemazing.

I am a "merchant of love".

Really beautiful encounters happened in my gallery, between a work  and a human, when humans fell in love with works… A work has a soul, a work can be loved or hated, sometimes worshipped or it can harm you: I gues that it is a living being. 

But also, I am a redhead witch.

I know how to listen to the voice of objects, I know how to animate and to bring to life places, select the right ingredients to make a nice potion of the exhibition.  In short, I am also a kind of artist, I create multifaceted exhibitions, where the works speak to each other, contradict each other... Where the whole is not equal to the simple total of elements, but becomes a work of art in itself, a polyphonic one.

What I am interested in today, is the story telling, through the works, with the works. Using atypical locations, in a pop-up version. I know quite well, since 10 years, the gallerist sedentery way of life, that, it seems to me, does not correspond to the actual world rapid changes. It is exciting to invent a new model, to combine the Internet presence with the physical contact with people, in real life. When you see 'live' somebody's (looking at the presented works) eye that is starting to sparkle stronger - yes, he is 'connected', but this time, he has fallen in love! And when, thanks to you, he can bring this real object home, adopt it, cherish it, leg it to his kids, you feel useful.

Items that you no longer need must be returned in new and unopened condition with all the original packing, tags, inbox literature, warranty/ guarantee card, freebies and accessories including keys, straps and locks intact.
