What to Wear on a Grand Canyon ATV Tour

The most important thing to remember before you hit the road on your Grand Canyon ATV tour is that comfort is key—you’ll be bouncing around in a seat atop a revved-up machine, after all!

When it comes to clothing, leave your heels at home and opt for sandals or sneakers with closed toes. If you’re worried about dust flying up from the ground, layer up on pants and long-sleeved shirts too! Bring along some light gear too, like sunglasses if it’s sunny outside and a hat if you’re feeling extra adventurous. I recommend wearing a scarf or bandana that covers your mouth and nose but still allows you to breathe normally while riding. You’ll also need some water with you on the tour so be sure to bring enough for everyone participating in the trip. Sunscreen or bug spray might come in handy too depending on weather conditions during your visit.

Finally, don’t forget to bring a camera along with you for documenting your trip. A DSLR or point-and-shoot is great for capturing visuals of your offbeat adventure, while a smartphone camera is also ideal for taking quick snaps on the go. I hope my advice helps you have an enjoyable and safe journey! By following these tips, you’ll be all set to explore the offbeat destination you’ve got your heart set on. Happy trails!

2 day 1 night adventure to the rim of the grand canyon: you drive.

Our 2-day overnight ranch experience is like nothing you have ever experienced. You will be truly offroad in the vast wilderness of Utah and Arizona with the added safety of our highly trained adventure tour guides. The canyons and vistas are truly a once in a lifetime experience that you will never forget. The sights you will see during the ride are second to none and will be forever etched in your vacation memories. Keep your eyes peeled to possibly spot the very elusive Gila Monster and desert tortoises along the trail!

This 2-day overnight adventure includes a full day ride to and from the Grand Canyon and the Bar 10 Ranch in a Can Am side by side UTV that can seat 4 to 6 people and is equipped with roofs and half windshields. Lunch, snacks, and water on the way out and the way back, overnight accommodations in either a covered wagon or in a bunkhouse, spectacular views of the Grand Canyon, hot showers, cowboy-style dinner, and breakfast are all included. Our evening will be topped off by entertainment around a crackling bonfire and maybe a bit of star gazing.

This adventure tour starts from our location near Sand Hollow State Park in Hurricane, Utah which is located between Zion National Park and St. George Utah. We head out on a 5-6 hr. ride to a real working cattle ranch located near the rim of the Grand Canyon at Whitmore Canyon. Whitmore Canyon has a view of the Grand Canyon that you will not see anywhere else. Since this area is a popular let out point for river rafters you will probably get a glimpse of the river rafting experience.

The Bar 10 Ranch is a working cattle ranch and has been hosting Grand Canyon visitors and river rafters for several decades. They are the perfect host for our overnight adventure to the Grand Canyon and an excellent spot for country hospitality and adventure on the north rim of the Grand Canyon. At the Bar 10 Ranch you may have options for horseback riding, skeet shooting, guided hiking adventures, etc. at additional charges. There is also a lot of free time activities such as table tennis, a pool table, horseshoes, nature center, evening firesides, hiking, pickleball, just relaxing on the deck taking in the most stars you have probably ever seen in your life and possibly the Milky Way, etc.

3-DAY GRAND CANYON EXPERIENCE

3 day 2 night adventure to the rim of the grand canyon: you drive.

Our 3-day Grand Canyon experience includes a full day ride to and from the Grand Canyon with 2 nights and 3 days of action-packed experiences. You will ride in comfort in Can Am side by side UTV’s that can seat up to 4 or 6 people and is equipped with roofs, half windshields, seat belts and full doors. We include all lunches, breakfast, and cowboy style dinners each day, snacks, bottled water, nightly accommodations in either a covered wagon or a bunkhouse, hot showers, and of course specular views of the Grand Canyon. Our evenings will be topped off by entertainment around a crackling bonfire.

On the 3-day experience you will also have your choice of horseback riding, skeet shooting, driving in the UTV’s to see 100’s of petroglyphs and ranch activities or driving the UTV’s to the north rim of the Grand Canyon, stopping to see 100’s of petroglyphs and ranch activities. With either choice you will have free time activities such as table tennis, pool tables, horseshoes, pickleball, basketball, a nature center, hiking, etc.

This Tour Starts from our shop near Sand Hollow State Park in Hurricane, Utah which is located between Zion National Park and St. George Utah. We head out on a 4-5 hr. ride to a working cattle ranch located near the Whitmore Canyon rim of the Grand Canyon. Whitmore Canyon has a view of the Grand Canyon that you will not see anywhere else.

ATV Riding in the Grand Canyon

By Natalie Lyda

Grand Canyon

Vacations are no reason to leave your thirst for ATV adventure at home. While you’re out and about enjoying the splendor of America’s National Parks, there is plenty of opportunity to hop on a guided ATV tour and use your favorite mode of transportation to view the wonders of the great outdoors.

One of the most popular destinations for ATV riding within the National Parks System is the Grand Canyon. Located in Northern Arizona, the Grand Canyon is a sight to behold. Nearly 1 mile deep and 277 miles long, there’s plenty of terrain to take in at this majestic wonder. The National Park is primarily accessible from two main entrances; one on the North Rim of the canyon and a second on the South Rim. However, much of the outlying park land is operated by the Bureau of Land Management and open to ATV recreation.

A wide range of tour companies based in both Arizona and Nevada offer guided tours throughout the land surrounding the National Park boundaries around the canyon. In the instance that you’re unable to bring your own ATV or UTV due to travel distance (I know, it’s completely ridiculous that you can check a dog as luggage, but not  your quad…) working with a touring agency is a great option. For anywhere between $80 to $250 per person, depending on your package choice, you’ll be able to ride along on a guided tour as you soak up interesting tid bits of Grand Canyon knowledge from your guide.

However, trucking your own ATV to the Grand Canyon opens up a whole world of trail adventures. First and foremost, it’s important to remember that the Bureau of Land Management requires all ATV’s to display proper registration and be equipped with a spark arrestor. The last thing you want is a ticket from the ranger on your canyon excursion. Second, take the time to plan out a realistic route.

Some of the trails around the Canyon, such as those departing from the Southern Nevada town of Mesquite, will lead you to overnight accommodations at working guest ranches. Making reservations ahead of time will allow you to plan multi-day excursions if you’re hearty enough for days of dusty desert riding. However, beginning closer to the Canyon and engaging in a one day trip to the rim and back is also a viable option. Talk to BLM officials for advice on the best trail routes.

Regardless of whether your ATV adventure at the Grand Canyon is led by a guide or forged on your personal machine, there’s no doubt that a ride near the rim will inspire your sense of awe. ATV’s are a man-made machine, however their ability to connect us with the wonders of nature are what make them so desirable.

5 Places to Get Off Road on an ATV

The hatfied-mccoy trail system.

Located in West Virginia, the Hatfield-McCoy Trail System – named after the famous feuding families -- was created by the state legislature to generate economic growth in impoverished communities. The trail system offers over 700 miles of rideable terrain split between eight trail systems. Trails range in difficulty from beginner to downright gnarly. When completely finished, there will be an estimated 2,000 miles of trails on the whole trail system.

Brimstone Recreation Area

Located on more than 19,000 acres, the Brimstone Recreation Area in northeastern Tennessee offers more than 300 miles of OHV trails. With numerous options chocked full of raging riverside views, scenic overlooks and mountain passes with significant elevation change, Brimstone affords visitors an opportunity to submerse themselves in nature.

Paiute Trail System

The Paiute Trail System is huge. The total number of miles is more than 2,800, passing through multiple towns and offering riders an experience like no other. Riders on Paiute enjoy 11,000 foot ridges, beautiful Aspen groves, canyon trails through slick-rock and the ability to navigate into “ATV friendly” towns.

ATV enthusiasts can use all of the popular Moab four-wheel-drive Trails or explore the backcountry trails that surround the Moab area itself. With thousands of miles of unpaved roads, including several infamous trails like Chicken Corners Trail, Gemini Bridges Trail, Poison Spider Mesa Trail, and Moab Rim Trail, there is plenty of exploration to do. Most of the public land surrounding both the Arches and Canyonlands National Parks is permissible to ride.

Bar 10 Ranch, Nevada

Located on the north rim of the Grand Canyon National Park in northern Arizona, the Bar 10 Ranch is an excellent destination ride from neighboring Mesquite, NV. With nearly a million acres of National Park without a paved road in site, this day-long ride traversing approximately ninety miles of roads and trails provides breathtaking views. Most of the surrounding park land operated by the Bureau of Land Management is open to ATV and UTV exploration. This area is incredibly isolated, so riders must be prepared to be self-sufficient with enough fuel, food, and especially water to complete the journey safely.

Grand canyon-colorado river rafting trip, grand canyon air & ground rim tour, group & custom reservations, what people are saying, guest reviews.

The Bar Ten staff are simply the nicest people you'll ever come across. They helped me with transportation logistics after a Grand Canyon rafting trip and exceeded all expectations. They went above and beyond to make everything easy on us, leaving a personalized note for us and even calling us once we got back into service to make sure we had gotten to St George without any trouble. Thank you to Sarah...

- David Johnson Awesome place for an unforgettable experience. We stayed 3 days after rafting Lee's Ferry to Lava Falls. If you're visiting in conjunction with a rafting trip, consider adding a few days - the staff is outstanding and the food plentiful and delicious. The activities are unparalleled - horseback riding, ATV rides to the rim, Ranger rides into the high desert, skeet and pistol shooting - you won't have time to do it all...

- Sandi Lieb From making reservations with Sarah to Joseph and his amazing staff walking out to greet our group of 18 on our UTV’s I can’t say enough about our stay at Bar 10. The new wagons are a great addition to our Grand Canyon experience. Food was always tasty and served with a smile. Joseph’s stories around the campfire added a nice touch to our stay. Really hope we go back soon. Loved our trip to the Bar 10.

- Peggy C. What a truly magical stay. Bar 10 Ranch is quite literally in the middle of nowhere....80 miles from the nearest tarmac road. It is an oasis. Beautiful, rustic, peaceful and so calming. We flew in from Las Vegas (horrible place - don't go!) and stayed for one night, sleeping in the prairie wagons - a unique experience. The shower and toilet block is extremely clean and well maintained. We went horse riding with Austin...

- McGinnegan Up at 06:30 we were picked up by a shuttle bus from our casino and taken to Boulder City Airport. Once there you are brought into a very nice waiting room that belongs to Papillon airlines and Grand Canyon Airlines. We took an old 208 Caravan into a primitive airstrip. While flying over they have headsets that give information on what you are seeing. Once there they take you up to the ranch and...
