The flight from Bangalore to Frankfurt was delayed by 8 hours and hence we couldn’t make the flight from Frankfurt to St. Louis ( which was later canceled by Lufthansa ) . Bangalore airport lounge 080 is EXCELLENT. The shower in the lounge is first class. Wished they had some extendable lounge chairs for sleeping for the weary passengers. FRANKFURT AIRPORT IS HORRIBLE! The check at Accra was very bad . I had to be in the queue for solid two hours simple because your staff were pushing people and lifting the balustrade for them to jump the queue. If you are traveling to mumbai -- must try SFO - MUM direct flight. It's a game changer when you are traveling to India. Timings are well designed, optimal and makes the travel enjoyable.

Things only got worse in the check-in counter in Mumbai. The monitor in the check-in counter said that the flight was on time even though it was cancelled. There were 2 agents helping a 747 full of passengers. It was 5:30 AM by the time I checked into the hotel. I tried reaching Kayak (Chatdeal via email) days before the onward flight from Seattle and no one cared to respond even after reminder. I will go with Expedia in the future. In fact, for my next trip to Japan I have already used Expedia.

Very very poor. Reliability is the main issue. The flight from Bangalore to Frankfurt was delayed by 8 hours and hence we couldn’t make the flight from Frankfurt to St. Louis ( which was later canceled by Lufthansa ) . Bangalore airport lounge 080 is EXCELLENT. The shower in the lounge is first class. Wished they had some extendable lounge chairs for sleeping for the weary passengers. FRANKFURT AIRPORT IS HORRIBLE! WILL NEVER EVER FLY IN OR OUT OF FRANKFURT. There is no jetways for the Lufthansa flight and the bus took so long to reach the next terminal. We had to clear immigration and security checks again and again though we are transit travelers.

The layover time was barely 1.30 hrs and the security clearance sucks. I almost missed my flight but for the help of a manger. She held the flight for me. My baggage did not arrive. The entertainment did not work, I had to switch my seat 3 times for different issues. The travel was not fun

It took over an hour to check in my bag a there was just one person at the counter. Security lines for business class also took a while. Although I reported 3 hours before my flight I made it to the gate 20 mins before boarding. To add to that jewelry was removed from my checked in baggage. I am submitting a separate complaint to Mumbai airport for that.

The check at Accra was very bad . I had to be in the queue for solid two hours simple because your staff were pushing people and lifting the balustrade for them to jump the queue. This situation made us very made with your Accra check in crew. I have video of what I am putting across and I am happy I have the opportunity now.I can send the video to you if you are ready to punish those involved.

Seated in business class. Bed too hard and no comforter. Way too many seats in business class for number of crew so never felt particularly looked after.

Biz class has a middle seat. 🙄. WiFi only for first class. No free seat assignments. Basically nickel and dime approach. They need to take lessons from Singapore Air and the likes. Never again.

I was called up at the gate not knowing why and then handed over my passport and was told I was being upgraded from Premier economy to Business class and it was wonderful. I've never been upgraded before and it was such a pleasant experience.

If you are traveling to mumbai -- must try SFO - MUM direct flight. It's a game changer when you are traveling to India. Timings are well designed, optimal and makes the travel enjoyable.

Air India needs to launch new planes. Seats are worn out, most of the plane's TV screens wasn't working, USB charging ports wasn't working as well so I can charge my phone & watch my download movies, Food was mediocre, the plane smells. How can Air India put through their customers with this bad experience? This complaint needs to get escalated to the upper management. How shameful is the upper management to improve this plane? One of my worst experiences. Nothing was working in the flight. Entertainment system was broken, seat was very uncomfortable, crew did not offer water until food was provided, lights were not working, attendant call was not working. In short everything was broken and duct taped.

Even the budget wing of AIR INDIA ie AIR INDIA EXPRESS provided us Wi-Fi connectivity on our mobile phone in their DOMESTIC SECTOR. So not providing Wi-Fi connectivity on international flight was unthinkable.

Old aircraft, crew were so so. Meals were mediocre. Flight to delhi was delayed. Lounge needs update and was mediocre too.

With the India-Canada flight ban finally being lifted, here’s all the information you need to plan your travel from India to Canada.

After a five-month suspension, Transport Canada  allowed direct flights between India and Canada to resume on September 27, 2021.

You can travel from India to Canada if you meet any of the following criteria:

• If you’re a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident (PR) of Canada, a person registered under the Indian Act of Canada , or a protected person (refugee status)
• If you possess a valid Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR), or valid work permit (and proof of approval) and job offer
• If you have a valid study permit, and have been accepted into an approved Designated Learning Institution (DLI),
• If you’re a foreign national and are travelling for essential or discretionary purposes. The requirement of being fully-vaccinated has now been eased.
• If you are reuniting with immediate family members who are Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or temporary foreign workers.

Passengers travelling on a direct flight from India to Canada will need to meet the following requirements if they are not fully vaccinated with a vaccine that’s approved in Canada:

• Obtain a pre-departure negative COVID-19 molecular test, also known as an RT-PCR test, from Genestrings Laboratory at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi. This COVID-19 test must be performed within 72 hours before your scheduled departure. Effective February 28, 2022, results from rapid antigen tests performed within 24 hours before your scheduled departure will also be accepted, provided they are performed by a healthcare practitioner or at a healthcare facility.
• You’ll need to present the negative COVID-19 test report to the airline staff before boarding your flight.
• Travellers will need to update their information, including vaccination details, quarantine plan , etc. on the ArriveCAN app.
• All passengers will be required to wear face masks throughout their flight and at airports.

Airlines will refuse to allow travellers who don’t meet these requirements to board the aircraft. Exceptions exist for travellers who’ve previously tested positive and have recovered from COVID-19.

How do I book a COVID-19 molecular test at Delhi airport?

You can book a COVID-19 molecular test at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi, online. You will be required to provide some basic personal information, proof of identity, and details about your flight. You will need to select “RT-PCR” test and book a suitable slot. A fee of INR 500 (approximately $8.50 CAD) will be applicable for each test. You will receive the COVID-19 test result within 8 to 10 hours, and the result delivery will be prioritized based on your departure time.

You can also opt for a faster COVID-19 molecular test, which costs INR 4,900 (approximately $82 CAD) and gives you a result within 60 to 90 minutes.

Effective October 2022, travellers entering Canada no longer need to take a pre-arrival test, regardless of vaccination status or prior recovery from COVID-19.

As of October 2022, travellers who are not fully vaccinated with a COVID-19 vaccine approved in Canada can enter the country. Previously, foreign nationals who weren’t fully vaccinated were only allowed to enter Canada under specific circumstances, such as if they were:

• A Canadian citizen
• A permanent resident, or have received a Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR)
• An authorized temporary foreign worker with a valid work permit and job offer (unless you’re in a profession where a work permit is not required) .

At present, travellers who are not fully vaccinated with a vaccine approved in Canada can even enter Canada for discretionary or optional purposes.

What to do if the vaccine I’ve received is not approved in Canada?

As of October 2022, even if you’ve received a vaccine that is not approved in Canada, you will be allowed to enter Canada.

Travellers coming into Canada are no longer required to quarantine, regardless of their vaccination status. In addition, both the pre-arrival and on-arrival testing requirements have been removed, so you will not be tested for COVID-19 when you reach Canada. However, in the interest of public health, you should still avoid travelling to Canada if you’re infected with, or suspect that you have, COVID-19.

You can choose to fly from India to Canada directly or via an indirect route. However, if you’re entering Canada via a third country, be sure to check the COVID-19 vaccination and testing requirements that apply to your layover destination.

While planning an itinerary that involves an indirect route of travel to Canada, keep the following in mind:

• Some countries may have restrictions on the entry or transit of passengers arriving from India.
• You may require a COVID-19 test or proof of vaccination to enter or transit through your layover destination, even if these requirements no longer apply to entering Canada.
• You may require a transit or travel visa for the third country. Be sure to check the visa requirements of your stop-over destination before making any flight bookings.
• In case you test positive during transit, you may have to abide by quarantine regulations imposed by the third country.

Due to ongoing COVID-19 travel restrictions, many people have been unable to travel. If your Confirmation of Permanent Residence (CoPR) has expired while waiting for the travel restrictions and flight ban to be lifted, you will not be permitted to enter Canada on expired travel documents.

The IRCC is no longer reissuing CoPRs to individuals who were unable to travel during the quarantine. If your CoPR has expired, you will need to reapply for permanent residence and meet the current eligibility criteria.

How long does it really take to fly from Canada to India? Here's a sample itinerary for a commercial flight plan. If you want to know the total travel time to reach India, you need to include time at the airports. Eventually, you'll be able to customize this itinerary to select other nearby airports and choose your preferred airline.

Tuesday, 3:55 pm :  start in Canada drive for about 4.5 hours most airlines recommend you get to the airport at least 60 minutes before your flight, so arrive by 9:00 pm at the latest

8:50 pm :  get your boarding pass and go through TSA security allow enough time for long security lines during busy travel seasons or holidays, and prepare for the wait time

9:20 pm :  arrive at the gate once you're ready to board, you can get something to eat in the airport or just relax near the gate

9:35 pm :  prepare for boarding check your boarding pass for your group number or listen to the gate agent as they announce boarding, some airlines require you to be in the boarding area 10-15 minutes before departure or risk losing your seat

9:50 pm :  board flight you can search for other airlines that fly this route

10:00 pm :  this is your scheduled departure time but remember flights can be delayed, so take that into account it takes the plane an average of 15 minutes to taxi to the runway

10:15 pm :  wheels up! take-off from YYQ fly for about 14.5 hours in the air

Wednesday, 12:45 pm (local time) :   Aurangabad Airport (IXU) India is 11:30 hours ahead of Canada so the time in Canada is actually 12:45 pm you actually arrive the day after you left taxi on the runway for an average of 15 minutes to the gate

1:00 pm (local time) :  arrive at the gate at IXU deboard the plane, and claim any baggage if you're renting a car, check if you need to take a shuttle to car rental agency, otherwise you can ride in a cab, limo, or Uber for about 5 hours to your destination

6:14 pm (local time) :  arrive in India

Total travel time: 26 hours

How far is India from Canada? Here's the quick answer if you have a private jet and you can fly in the fastest possible straight line.

Flight distance: 6,902 miles or 11108 km

Flight time: 14 hours, 18 minutes

Compare this to a whole day of commercial travel with the airports and waiting in line for security, which ends up taking a total of 26 hours, 19 minutes .

Flying private is roughly 1.9x faster , and saves you about 12.5 hours in your total travel time.

Because of the curvature of the Earth, the shortest distance is actually the "great circle" distance, or "as the crow flies" which is calculated using an iterative Vincenty formula. For a long distance, this appears as a curve on the map, and this is often the route that commercial airlines will take so it's a good estimate of the frequent flyer miles you'll accumulate as well.

This is a fairly long flight, so unless you have a Gulfstream G650 or your own Boeing or Airbus, you might be booking a commercial flight. In that case, your travel time would really need to include how many minutes to get to your local airport, wait for security, board and taxi on the runway, land at the other airport, and get to your destination. The flight itinerary at the top of the page takes into account all these factors to get a more accurate estimate of your actual flight time .

What time the 2024 solar eclipse started, reached peak totality and ended

The 2024 solar eclipse will be visible across North America today. As the moon's position between the Earth and sun casts a shadow on North America, that shadow, or umbra, will travel along the surface from west to east at more than 1,500 miles per hour along the path of totality . 

That means the eclipse will start, peak and end at different times — as will the moments of total darkness along the path of totality — and the best time to view the eclipse depends on where you are located. Some places along the path will have more totality time than others.

In Texas, the south-central region had clouds in the forecast , but it was better to the northeast, according to the National Weather Service. The best eclipse viewing weather was expected in New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine, as well as in Canada's New Brunswick and Newfoundland.

What time does the 2024 total solar eclipse start?

The total solar eclipse will emerge over the South Pacific Ocean before the shadow falls across North America, beginning in parts of Mexico. The path of totality , where onlookers can witness the moon fully blocking the sun (through eclipse viewing glasses for safety ), is expected to first make landfall near the city of Mazatlán around 9:51 a.m. MT. 

The total solar eclipse will cross over the U.S.-Mexico border into Texas, where it will emerge over Eagle Pass at 12:10 p.m. CT and then peak at about 1:27 p.m. CT.

In Dallas, NASA data shows the partial eclipse will first become visible at 12:23 p.m. CT and peak at 1:40 p.m. CT. The next states in the path of totality are Oklahoma and Arkansas, where the eclipse begins in Little Rock at 12:33 p.m. CT. 

Cleveland will see the beginning of the eclipse at 1:59 p.m. ET. Darkness will start spreading over the sky in Buffalo, New York, at 2:04 p.m. ET. Then, the eclipse will reach northwestern Vermont, including Burlington, at 2:14 p.m. ET. Parts of New Hampshire and Maine will also follow in the path of totality before the eclipse first reaches the Canadian mainland  at 3:13 p.m. ET.

Although the experience won't be exactly the same, viewers in all the contiguous U.S. states outside the path of totality will still be able to see a partial eclipse. Some places will see most of the sun blocked by the moon, including Washington, D.C., where the partial eclipse will start at 2:04 p.m. ET and peak at about 3:20 p.m. ET.

In Chicago, viewers can start viewing the partial eclipse at 12:51 p.m. CT, with the peak arriving at 2:07 p.m. CT.  In Detroit, viewers will be able to enjoy a near-total eclipse beginning at 1:58 p.m. ET and peaking at 3:14 p.m. ET.

New York City will also see a substantial partial eclipse, beginning at 2:10 p.m. ET and peaking around 3:25 p.m. ET.

In Boston it will begin at 2:16 p.m. ET and peak at about 3:29 p.m. ET.

The below table by NASA shows when the eclipse will start, peak and end in 13 cities along the eclipse's path.

What time will the solar eclipse reach peak totality?

Millions more people will have the chance to witness the total solar eclipse this year than during the last total solar eclipse , which was visible from the U.S. in 2017. 

The eclipse's peak will mean something different for cities within the path of totality and for those outside. Within the path of totality, darkness will fall for a few minutes. The longest will last more than 4 minutes, but most places will see between 3.5 and 4 minutes of totality. In cities experiencing a partial eclipse, a percentage of the sun will be obscured for more than two hours.

Mazatlán is set to experience totality at 11:07 am PT. Dallas will be able to see the moon fully cover the sun at 1:40 p.m. CT. Little Rock will start to see the full eclipse at 1:51 p.m. CT, Cleveland at 3:13 p.m. ET and Buffalo at 3:18 p.m. ET. Totality will reach Burlington at 3:26 p.m. ET before moving into the remaining states and reaching Canada around 4:25 p.m.

Outside the path of totality, 87.4% of the sun will be eclipsed in Washington, D.C. at 3:20 p.m. ET, and Chicago will have maximum coverage of 93.9% at 2:07 p.m. CT. New York City is much closer to the path of totality this year than it was in 2017; it will see 89.6% coverage at 3:25 p.m. EDT. 

Detroit is another city that will encounter a near-total eclipse, with 99.2% maximum coverage at 3:14 p.m. ET. Boston will see 92.4% coverage at 3:29 p.m. ET.

What time will the solar eclipse end?

The eclipse will leave continental North America from Newfoundland, Canada, at 5:16 p.m. NT, according to NASA.

At the beginning of the path of totality in Mazatlán, the eclipse will be over by 12:32 p.m. PT, and it will leave Dallas at 3:02 p.m. CT. The eclipse will end in Little Rock at 3:11 p.m. CT, Cleveland at 4:29 p.m. CDT and Buffalo at 4:32 p.m. ET. Burlington won't be far behind, with the eclipse concluding at 4:37 p.m. ET.

Meanwhile, the viewing will end in Chicago at 3:21 p.m. CT, Washington, D.C. at 4:32 p.m. ET, and New York City at 4:36 p.m. ET. 

In Detroit, the partial eclipse will disappear at 4:27 p.m. ET, and in Boston, it will be over at 4:39 p.m. ET.

How long will the eclipse last in total?

The total solar eclipse will begin in Mexico at 11:07 a.m. PT and leave continental North America at 5:16 p.m. NT. From the time the partial eclipse first appears on Earth to its final glimpses before disappearing thousands of miles away, the celestial show will dazzle viewers for about 5 hours, according to timeanddate.com . 

The length of the total solar eclipse at points along the path depends on the viewing location. The longest will be 4 minutes and 28 seconds, northwest of Torreón, Mexico. Near the center of the path, totality takes place for the longest periods of time, according to NASA.

Spectators will observe totality for much longer today than during the 2017 eclipse , when the longest stretch of totality was 2 minutes and 32 seconds.

The moon's shadow seen on Earth today, called the umbra, travels at more than 1,500 miles per hour, according to NASA. It would move even more quickly if the Earth rotated in the opposite direction.

What is the longest a solar eclipse has ever lasted?

The longest known totality was 7 minutes and 28 seconds in 743 B.C. However, NASA says this record will be broken in 2186 with a 7 minute, 29 second total solar eclipse. The next total solar eclipse visible from parts of the U.S. won't happen until Aug. 23, 2044.

Israel's "words must turn into action", Lord Cameron has said.

After the UK participated in the largest airdrop of aid into Gaza on a single day today, the foreign secretary said the UK would continue to "push Israel as hard as we can" to get more aid in.

Led by the Jordanian Armed Forces, a total of nine nations and 14 aircraft participated in the operation today, delivering essential food, water and other supplies to civilians.

An in-person meeting of Israeli and US officials on the planned operation in the Gaza city of Rafah will take place "in a couple of weeks", the White House has said this evening.

Earlier today, Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu doubled down on his pledge to go forward with an offensive in Rafah.

He said there were "many forces" trying to stop the Rafah offensive - a reference to other nations demanding that Israel does not go ahead - "but it will not help, because this enemy, after what it has done, will not do it again, it will cease to exist". 

It remains unclear why Israel seems to be withdrawing troops from Gaza.

Military analyst Michael Clarke  says while it is not clear why this has been done there may be both tactical and political reasons for this.

He says the reason this has happened now is due to the "build up of political pressure from outside".

Further to reports we brought you earlier on comments by US defence secretary Lloyd Austin at a senate hearing (see post at 4.19pm), we can bring you more on what the US official said.

Asked by a lawmaker what the impact would be from a deadly mass famine in Gaza, Mr Austin said: "It will accelerate violence, and it will have the effect of ensuring that there's a long-term conflict.

"It doesn't have to happen. We should continue to do everything we can, and we are doing this, to encourage the Israelis to provide humanitarian assistance."

Israel has said aid is moving into Gaza more quickly, but the amount is disputed and the United Nations says it remains much less than the bare minimum to meet humanitarian needs.

Mr Austin said it remained to be seen if the increase in aid could be deepened and sustained.

He added that an Israeli failure to separate the Palestinian people from Palestinian Islamist group Hamas "would just create more terrorism." 

Israel should make a deal with Hamas, the brother-in-law of Eli Sharabi has told Sky News.

Steve Brisley told The News Hour with Mark Austin that hope was all his family had and were "clinging onto".

"We emotionally hope and pray Eli is still alive but with every passing day time is running out," he said.

"Time ran out for his brother Yossi and time has run out for many of the hostages."

He said the "simple maths meant Eli's chances were not good".

Asked if Israel should make a deal with Hamas, he added: "Absolutely.

"The Israeli government have said time and time again the hostages are their first priority. 

"It's time for those words to be put into action."

Mr Brisley said "all the hostages were in mortal danger with every passing day" and if the end of the war would bring them home "then that is what must be done".

The war in Gaza has seen Yemen's Houthis attack cargo ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. 

They say they are doing this in support of the Palestinians in Gaza who have been under Israeli bombardment since the Hamas attack on 7 October.

Global shipping has been disrupted as a result.

Here, our  special correspondent Alex Crawford  looks at the crisis in Yemen...

The UK has participated in the largest airdrop of aid into Gaza on a single day today.

Led by the Jordanian Armed Forces, a total of nine nations and 14 aircraft participated in the operation, delivering essential food, water and other supplies to civilians.

The Royal Air Force participated in the airdrop into Gaza and it coincided with Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan.

Collectively delivering hundreds of tonnes of aid, this was the largest airdrop of aid into Gaza on a single day, the Ministry of Defence said. 

It is also the sixth RAF airdrop in recent weeks, delivering over 53 tonnes of aid.

Foreign Secretary David Cameron said the UK remained "ready to play its part in getting supplies in by land, air and sea" but the "people of Gaza need more".

"We continue to push Israel as hard as we can to get more aid across the border and delivered throughout the region. Words must turn into action - this is essential to avoid an even more severe humanitarian crisis," he said.

Defence secretary Grant Shapps added: "We continue to stand by Israel's right to defeat the threat from Hamas terrorists, who have failed the people of Gaza and hide behind civilians. 

"This terrible conflict must end. The hostages must be released and the aid must flood in."

Three people have been arrested outside Sir Keir Starmer's home after gathering nearby to protest Labour "allowing the selling of arms to Israel".

Met deputy assistant commissioner Ade Adelekan said it was "completely unacceptable" for the protest to take place in the vicinity of a politician's home. 

"There are plenty of appropriate places to protest in London, anyone who chooses to target a private home can expect to be dealt with by officers," he said.

In a statement, Rishi Sunak said: "I don't care what your politics are, no MP should be harassed at their own home. We cannot and will not tolerate this."

Yemen is in the middle of a humanitarian disaster after nearly a decade of civil war between the Saudi and Western-backed government, and the Iranian-backed Houthi militia.

As our  special correspondent Alex Crawford has found, war in Gaza is making the situation even worse for Yemenis already facing violence, starvation and disease.

On this edition of the Sky News Daily, Niall Paterson is joined by Alex and Yemen-born producer Ahmed Baider to explore how Houthi attacks on shipping lanes in the Red Sea, ostensibly in support of Gaza, are preventing aid from getting into Yemen.

Lord Cameron is asked if Israel is breaching international humanitarian law in Gaza.

Rishi Sunak has been under pressure to halt arms licences to Israel in the wake of the conflict - and publish the legal advice relating to the country's compliance with international law.

Lord Cameron says: "I have now reviewed the most recent advice about the situation in Gaza and Israel's conduct of their military campaign.

"The latest assessment leaves our position on export licences unchanged. This is consistent with the advice that I and other ministers have received."

However, he says: "We will keep the position under review."

Lord Cameron adds that the UK has "grave concerns" about the "humanitarian access issue in Gaza".

He reiterates that the government does not "publish legal advice, we don't comment on legal advice, but we act in a way that is consistent with it".
