Perbedaan trip tour travel journey dalam bahasa Inggris beserta penggunaanya 

Pahami secara detail perbedaan empat kosakata perjalanan dalam bahasa Inggris tersebut di ulasan hari ini. 

1. Trip 

Trip adalah salah satu kosakata bahasa Inggris untuk bepergian yang penggunaannya lebih cocok untuk kamu yang melakukan perjalanan singkat. Misalnya bepergian saat weekend atau liburan 2-3 hari. 

Kosakata ini ini lebih cocok untuk bepergian yang menyenangkan, misalnya liburan yang direncanakan, berpetualang ke tempat tertentu dalam waktu yang singkat. Dalam bahasa Indonesia, ngetrip artinya melakukan perjalanan/liburan singkat

Kamu bisa menggunakan trip sesuai dengan tujuan atau konteksnya, misalnya short trip, school trip, business trip atau juga road trip.

I will be going on a short trip to the beach in Bali this Saturday and Sunday (aku akan pergi liburan singkat di pantai Bali sabtu dan minggu ini)

2. Tour 

Selanjutnya adalah penggunaan tour dalam bahasa Inggris. Tour artinya juga bepergian yang biasa digunakan untuk acara bepergian yang direncanakan, termasuk dengan itinerary perjalanannya.

Kosakata ini cocok digunakan untuk kamu yang melakukan perjalanan/kunjungan dengan perencanaan dan agenda yang lengkap. Tour juga biasa dilakukan oleh satu grup yang terdiri dari beberapa orang. 

Tour tidak hanya digunakan untuk tujuan wisata namun juga untuk tujuan bisnis, pembelajaran dan lain sebagainya.

Dalam bahasa Inggris, tour bisa digunakan sebagai noun (kata benda/orang/tempat sebagai objek dan subjek) dan juga verb (kata kerja). 

Bentuk jamak dari tour adalah tours artinya melakukan perjalanan ke lebih dari satu tempat atau tujuan. 

Jika kamu melakukan perjalan yang direncanakan ke beberapa tempat, tour adalah kosakata yang paling tepat.

Travel bisa digunakan verb (kata kerja) dalam bahasa Inggris. Dalam bahasa Indonesia, travel banyak digunakan menjadi travelling yang artinya sedang sedang bepergian mengunjungi beberapa tempat atau eksplor tempat tertentu.

• He is traveling with his wife  (dia sedang bepergian dengan istrinya)

• I traveled with my best friend around Japan (aku sudah berkunjung di sekitar Jepang dengan temanku)

4. Journey 

Yang terakhir adalah Journey. Berbeda dengan trip tour travel journey memiliki kesan perjalanan singkat untuk berbagai tujuan. Journey artinya cukup menarik, untuk menggambarkan hal yang berkesan. 

Journey adalah kosakata yang cocok digunakan untuk perjalanan panjang dan juga memiliki makna, pengalaman dan arti khusus untuk seseorang. 

Banyak orang yang menggunakan Journey untuk menceritakan kisah hebatnya yang memiliki pengalaman atau kesan menarik dalam hidupnya. 

Contoh penggunaan Journey adalah sebagai berikut 

• Life is a journey; we gain many experiences that shape us into better individuals (kehidupan adalah perjalanan panjang, kita dapat banyak pengalaman yang membentuk kita menjadi individu yang lebih baik)

It's Week 4 of the 2023 college football season. The No. 8 Washington Huskies are up 38-12 over Pac-12 foe Cal on a chilly Seattle night. Late in the first half, Washington's top receiver, Rome Odunze , is split wide to the left.

Quarterback Michael Penix Jr. takes the snap and Odunze beats press coverage immediately, racing up the seam. Penix Jr. knows where he wants to go but sees a safety lurking in Odunze's way. He launches a deep pass to the corner, away from the safety but also away from Odunze's original path, forcing a tight-window throw.

In a split second Odunze looks back at the ball, adjusts his route, and looks back again in time to secure the pass for a touchdown - a sight Huskies fans saw 13 times over the course of the season.

"That was one of my favorite plays from the season," Odunze said, crediting teammate Jalen McMillan with helping develop his elite ball-tracking abilities. "You have to be ready for that moment and retain the focus through a route adjustment to make the catch."

It's plays like that on the field - and the man Odunze is off of it - that make him one of the top prospects in the 2024 NFL Draft. That potential began in Utah more than a decade ago.

Rome Odunze's journey from Utah to Seattle

Odunze, named after the Roman Empire thanks to his father's love of history, was born in Orem, Utah. At age 3, his parents moved to Las Vegas. Even with the distance, Odunze made the trek back to Provo, Utah to spend summers with Wayne and Helen Bunnell, his maternal grandparents, at their farm.

"I remember the four-wheelers, I remember the cows, the hay, the barn, the tractors," Odunze recalled with ESPN . "Also the hard work."

Odunze made the varsity team at high school football powerhouse Bishop Gorman High School mid-way through his freshman year. He earned All-State honors as a junior as Bishop Gorman won a state title in 2018.

Odunze credits Wayne's work ethic providing for the family as a model for success.

"My family, my mother, my pops, where I come from, we're all hardworking and determined people with tenacity," Odunze said. "It was naturally instilled in me as a young man and continues to be instilled in me to this day."

Success kept coming for Odunze on the football field. Bishop Gorman fell short in the title game in 2019 but Odunze earned Gatorade Nevada High School Player of the Year honors.

His outstanding play on the field complemented his stellar work off of it. Odunze was a 3.47 GPA student and a volunteer with charities including the Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada and the Special Olympics.

In August 2016, Wayne went out for a bicycle ride as he did often after a day of work on the farm. But this time he crashed and went over his handlebars, suffering a traumatic brain injury in the process.

He's legally blind and never got to see Odunze shine on the field for the Huskies. Instead, Helen watches diligently and fills him in on every catch.

Building a winner in Seattle

In the Huskies' 2020 recruiting class, Odunze wasn't even the top-ranked receiver. That honor went to McMillan, a four-star wide receiver out of Fresno, Calif.

During his second year in Seattle, Washington fired coach Jimmy Lake after video showed him shoving linebacker Ruperake Fuavai during a loss to Oregon. As a highly touted recruit, Odunze could've entered the transfer portal and looked elsewhere.

"I had already made my mind up that I wanted to leave the place better than I found it," Odunze said. "I felt like there was so much still to accomplish. When the new staff came in and we talked about their offense, they talked about [Penix Jr.] coming in, I knew it could be something special."

He stayed as the Huskies hired new head coach Kalen DeBoer and the results on the field were immediate. Odunze made a leap and led the conference with 1,145 receiving yards and eight total touchdowns.

"The offense allowed for a lot of plays to be made by the receivers," Odunze said. "I had the skillset, I had the talent, just putting more work in through the offseason and I grew as a player... the offense started to allow me and all my brothers to eat."

During that breakout season, he took a day in December with teammates McMillan, Bralen Trice , Troy Fautanu , and Alphonzo Tuputala to wrap gifts for underprivileged children with The Forgotten Children's Fund .

That community work continued ahead of his third season, too. During Dawg Derby , a charity event put on in July by the University of Washington that pairs players and fans for a fishing tournament on Puget Sound, Odunze's foundation donated $5,000 to the Tulalip Boys & Girls Club .

Odunze's record-breaking 2023 season

After earning first-team All-Pac-12 honors in 2022, Odunze earned a new title before the first kickoff of 2023: team captain.

"It's one of the biggest honors I've ever received," he said. "That's something I hold closer to my heart than a lot of awards that I've received and that's because it's voted on by the team. For those boys to see me as a leader, as someone they want to captain the team, to lead them out into battle every game, I felt very blessed."

His third season in Seattle was a record-breaking one. Odunze's 1,640 yards in 2023 broke the program's single-season record by nearly 200 yards. All of this while playing through a fractured rib and a collapsed lung suffered late in Washington's 31-24 win over Arizona .

This is the same man who played for two weeks of his sophomore season in high school with a broken collarbone . He'd miss no playing time for the Huskies who were gearing up for a showdown with Oregon.

“That dude was already worried about what he could do to get better and be ready for Oregon," Washington's head trainer Daren Nystrom told Christian Caple of On Montlake . “He did not make a big deal of it. If you didn’t know what was going on, you wouldn’t have known. You couldn’t tell by looking at him.”

Odunze kept playing and Washington kept winning. A win over Oregon in the final Pac-12 championship game ensured a spot in the College Football Playoff.

"I've been winning championships playing football for a long time," Odunze said. "Finally, to get my first Pac-12 championship with my brothers, it was a four-year journey. When we finally did and we could relish in the moment, that's something that I'll never forget."

After winning the Sugar Bowl over Texas , Odunze was the last player on the field at the Superdome. He was signing autographs for any kid who wanted one.

Though the Huskies lost the College Football Playoff national championship game, Odunze's proud of building one of the most successful teams in program history. His impact didn't go unnoticed by key figures in the program, either.

“Just over and over again, think about how many times he’s come through when you really needed it," DeBoer, now at Alabama , told reporters . "A lot of times you think about when you lose football games or you didn’t come through in the big moment. You remember those. I can’t remember Rome not coming through.”

You don't have to look far to find praise from scouts and analysts about Odunze. He put on a show at the scouting combine while other top prospects sat out, including staying later than any other prospect to get the time he wanted in the three-cone drill.

That drive - in addition to his talent and production - is grabbing plenty of attention.

NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah said Odunze is his favorite player in the draft in a media call. An NFL scout told The Athletic's Bruce Feldman Odunze is the safest guy of the top tier receivers and "he's built right to last and run routes." A wide receiver coach also raved about Odunze's football IQ. NFL.com draft analyst Lance Zierlein compared Odunze to future NFL Hall of Famer Larry Fitzgerald .

In most other years, Odunze's production, athleticism, and character make him the top wide receiver in a draft class. But Ohio State's Marvin Harrison Jr. and LSU's Malik Nabers are a pair of other top prospects at the position.

"I think [Harrison Jr.] is a tremendous wide receiver," Odunze said leading up to the draft . "He has a Hall of Fame father who has installed that in him... he kind of emulates that in his own game."

Regardless of how you rank the top receivers, Odunze is a near-lock for the top 10. USA Today's latest mock drafts have Odunze going No. 9 overall to the Chicago Bears and No. 10 overall to the New York Jets .

He's one of the few prospects invited to Detroit to be at the NFL Combine live. When he hears his name called, it'll be the culmination of more than a decade of work that sprouted from a family farm in Provo.

"It's a dream come true," Odunze said. "It's something I've been chasing since I was six years old... and I think my family's even more excited than I am."

Following Odunze's rookie season

Fans of the franchise that drafts Odunze can look forward to a standout weapon in the passing game. Advanced metrics from Reception Perception show he stands out even at the top of the draft class at route success rate.

"I'm going to work," Odunze said. "I'm a young guy coming into a team, an organization that's been there for many years with many players going through so I'm just going to play my part and put the work in it."

He's also keen to do more than just produce on the field. Odunze noted in a recent interview on This Is Football that his locker room presence and leadership will be an emphasis early on.

"My involvement in the community as well, I feel, is second to none," he added.

He's working with Verizon this year to take fans through his experience. Verizon's following Odunze as well as Texas wide receiver Adonai "AD" Mitchell as they transition from college to the NFL in a series titled "Call to Pro," similar to the annual "Hard Knocks" documentary program .

The first part of Odunze's series will feature him making the call back home to tell Wayne and the rest of his family where he'll be playing professional football.

"He won't be able to make it to the draft because of his condition," Odunze said. "So Verizon hooked me up and that'll be the first person I call to let them know that I've been drafted."

That first part of the series will be released Friday with Odunze's social media platforms.

"I'm sure there'll be so many people I'll be connecting with," Odunze said. "The whole NFL experience is an incredible journey so they'll be right there along the way."

Jaguars Draft Pick’s Mom Goes Viral for Hilarious Answer About Family’s Journey

Brian Thomas Jr.'s mother was a big winner on draft night.

Sometimes, over the three-hour slog the first round of the NFL draft can become, the content gods smile upon a player's relative and they wind up outshining the player himself. This year, the relative in question was the mother of Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr.

Drafted 23rd overall by the Jaguars out of LSU, Thomas celebrated his selection by Jacksonville while ABC interviewed his parents.

"It's awesome. That's all I can tell you. It's awesome, it's an awesome feeling," Thomas's father Brian Thomas Sr. said.

"Sandra, how far has this family come?" Thomas's mother was asked.

"We came from Baton Rouge, Louisiana," she replied.

The interaction drew laughs from NFL fans as a humorous rebuttal to human-interest draft reporting that can occasionally veer into unseemly territory .

Thomas, born in Youngsville, La., played three years with the Tigers. He broke out in his final season, catching 68 passes for 1,177 yards and an FBS-high 17 touchdowns. His quarterback, Jayden Daniels, won the Heisman Trophy and was selected No. 2 by the Washington Commanders earlier in the night.

Jonathan Tetelman recalls his journey from a nightclub DJ to an international opera star

NEW YORK (AP) — Jonathan Tetelman transformed from a nightclub DJ to an international opera star, a music detour that was quite, well, operatic.

He stopped singing in 2011 and mixed music for New York’s clubbers at Webster Hall, Pacha, Greenhouse and W.i.P. These days, the 35-year-old’s gigs are at posher places such as London’s Royal Opera House and the Salzburg Festival.

His career revived by a transition to tenor from baritone, Tetelman will be featured as Ruggero in a Metropolitan Opera performance of Puccini’s “La Rondine (The Swallow)” with soprano Angel Blue, televised live to theaters worldwide Saturday. Starting April 26, he sings Pinkerton in “Madama Butterfly” opposite soprano Asmik Grigorian in her Met debut.

“I kept saying to people, ‘You know, I’m a DJ, but I’m actually an opera singer.’ And the more I said it, the more I was like: ’Am I really an opera singer?’” Tetelman recalled of his singing sabbatical.

So he gave himself six months.

“I just sold everything. I sold all my equipment. All my speakers, all my turntables — everything — and just focused,” he said.

Born in Chile, Tetelman was adopted at about 7 months and grew up in Hopewell Township, New Jersey. He got a degree from the Manhattan School of Music in 2011 and considered himself a baritone.

Tetelman moved on to the Mannes School of Music for a graduate program where he was told his upper register was his future but struggled with even audition standards. Overcome with frustration, he headed to the downtown nightlife scene in 2013.

“It just wasn’t — it wasn’t clicking. I threw it all away,” he said.

After concluding that club life wasn’t a future, Tetelman began listening to recordings of Luciano Pavarotti, Enrico Caruso, Franco Corelli and Jonas Kaufmann to understand how they used their voices. Working with Mark Schnaible and Patricia McCaffrey, a husband-and-wife vocal coach team, he began building his tenor technique in 2015.

“This young man is wildly talented,” Schnaible said.

By his mid-20s, Tetelman thought himself too old for professional training programs, so he found an agent. He sang Eisenstein in Johann Strauss II’s “Die Fledermaus (The Bat)” at the Martina Arroyo Foundation’s young artists program in 2016. He then paid a few hundred dollars to attend an open call casting audition. That led to the role of Rodolfo in Puccini’s “La Bohème” at the Fujian Grand Theatre in China in 2017.

He was hired for “Bohème” in November 2018 at the English National Opera, where all performances are in English.

Tetelman prepared by singing in “La Boheme Warhola” — an adaptation of the classic that shifts to Andy Warhol’s The Factory studio — with Pittsburgh Festival Opera at the Falk Auditorium, a 360-seat school theater. Around the same time, agent Alan Green arranged for Tetelman to take over Rodolfo for a concert performance at the Boston Symphony Orchestra’s Tanglewood Festival after Piotr Beczała withdrew to replace Roberto Alagna at the Bayreuth Festival’s “Lohengrin.”

That raised Tetelman’s profile before he headed to the London Coliseum for the revival of Jonathan Miller’s 2009 staging, a key accelerant of his career.

“The production and the theater are wonderful. ‘La Bohème’ in English is disgusting,” Tetelman recalled vividly.

A dashing 6-foot-4 with dark hair and a wide smile, he became an in-demand singer for Puccini.

“He has a very solid top. When he sings soft, which I always encourage, especially in the very intimate moments, there’s a tenderness,” conductor Speranza Scappucci said.

On the night of Tetelman’s Met debut on March 26, an audience member tossed a bouquet he caught on the fly.

“He’s certainly a very, very charismatic presence and the audiences are responding,” Met general manager Peter Gelb said.

Tetelman made his Salzburg Festival debut last summer in Krzysztof Warlikowski’s “Macbeth.” The staging opened in an obstetrician’s office with children wearing black and yellow patches warning of radiation.

“You had to be on like mushrooms or something to really understand it,” Tetelman said, quickly adding, “It was one of the most amazing experiences I’ve had. ... I think working with him was actually a really inspiring moment for me.”

Future roles include Turiddu in Mascagni’s “Cavalleria Rusticana” and a title role in Saint-Saëns’ “Samson et Dalila” along with the heavier Puccini parts of Dick Johnson in “La Fanciulla del West (Girl of the Golden West)” and des Grieux in “Manon Lescaut.” He’d like to take on Strauss’ Apollo in “Daphne” and Bacchus in “Ariadne auf Naxos” one day.

“I’m trying to book actually less and less Puccini just because I’ve booked so much,” Tetelman said.

After the Taliban took over in Afghanistan in 2021, four women — parliamentarians, ministers and journalists — were stripped of their positions of power. Resettling in Canada, the documentary An Unfinished Journey (part of the 2024 Hot Docs Festival in Toronto) documents their continued fight for freedom for women, women's right to education, and pressuring international power to force the Taliban to reverse gender apartheid policies.

Co-director Amie Williams has been living in Greece since 2018 and found out that a group of women airlifted out of Kabul were set to arrive in Athens. She met them through the Melissa Network , an organization for migrant and refugee women in Greece.

"We heard that these women were coming and we discussed, maybe this would be a really good opportunity to go meet them, see what's happened, talk to them, break bread with them, try to give them some solidarity," Williams told Yahoo Canada .

Moving the production to Canada, following three women on their journey, eventually adding a fourth in Canada, Toronto-based co-director Aeyliya Husain was particularly attracted to telling this story.

"I'm interested in women's issues that show my cultural background and about women that shatter the stereotypes and tropes of Muslim women," Husain said. "I met with the women as they started to come here to Canada, ... and then we eventually started filming with them."

Homaira Ayubi served four terms in Afghan parliament and we see her attending protests and meeting politicians in Canada. Zefnoon Safi, from Laghman Province, has a 20-year political career, but had to come to Canada without two of her daughters, who remain trapped in Afghanistan. Nargis Nehan was a minister who worked closely with Afghanistan’s ousted president Ashraf Ghani.   Journalist Nilofar Moradi had openly criticized the Taliban in her work, and resettled in Ottawa with her husband, six-year-old son and seven-month-old daughter.

Throughout An Unfinished Journey , we see these women mobilize a community, crafting a real call to action for women, and governments, all over the world.

"We wanted to highlight everything that the women have accomplished and that they are still accomplishing and doing," Husain said. "They have to have hope, right, in order to carry on, in order to connect."

"They were powerhouse heroines in their own right, in Afghanistan. They overcame incredible obstacles to get to where they were," Williams added. "I just felt like the world needs to know this, that these are hopeful stories, these are stories of incredible strength that all women can benefit from hearing."

'As long as Afghan girls can't go to school, no woman should ever think her life is free'

In terms of creating an environment where all these women felt comfortable to open up to the filmmakers, Williams stressed that they never pushed for their participation, originally in Greece.

"I think they appreciated us visiting them, there was a group of them that were living far from the city and in a rundown hotel, and they were getting quite bored, I think, and just waiting around for the next big bureaucratic hurdle they had to overcome to get their paperwork to Canada," Williams said.

"They also had a lot to protect. ... It's forced migration, they didn't want to be there. The last thing they probably wanted to do was be in a film or talk to a journalist, or a reporter. But it was me and young Afghan and Iranian refugees. So I think we came across very differently than say a CNN crew. It took time and certainly when they got to Canada, it helped that Aeyliya's from a similar cultural background. And it took a lot of time in Canada. It took us over two years to make this film."

"You're building a relationship with them, ... you start off slowly and you start talking to them, and you're open and transparent," Husain added. "You're trying to involve them in the process of what will we film and trying to get them engaged in it."

At the core of this film is that this isn't a story that only impacts Afghan women, it's really a message for all women around the world.

"A lot the women, in even in the film, say, we're not just fighting for rights for women in Afghanistan, but for women all over the world," Husain said. "We need to fight for returning education to young girls, allowing women to go out of their homes, they're basically being erased from public spaces and this is really dangerous."

"We need to look at it as a global community and go, we cannot allow this to happen here, because we cannot allow this to spread and happen to other countries in the world."

Women's rights have been under attack in recent years, including, but certainly not limited to, abortion rights in the U.S .

"It's really terrifying to watch what's happening in the United States from afar and I do think that ... as long as Afghan girls can't go to school, no woman should ever think her life is free," Williams said.

"This isn't just not going to school, it means you can't leave your home. So they're being erased from public view. And I don't see how any woman anywhere can watch this happen and not want to do something."

The filmmakers highlighted that part of creating this project was also to establish an impact campaign.

"We want to get countries like Canada, that has a feminist foreign policy, to make a statement about gender apartheid, and to get it codified in international law," Husain said. "There are a number of senators who are working on this, and we had a screening and Parliament Hill, ... to push them to actually make a statement and to define what gender apartheid is too."

Kadyn Proctor's unique journey back to Alabama could foreshadow a more chaotic transfer portal future

Proctor committed to iowa out of the transfer portal after battling through struggles in his first season with the tide.

The story of Kadyn Proctor is complicated. Really complicated. 

During the same season in which the Alabama left tackle tied for the nation's lead in sacks surrendered (12), he was also a Freshman All-American. A player judged the best offensive lineman from conference championship weekend, according to Pro Football Focus, was also homesick. A dominant force by any measure, Proctor was also a victim of that great devil of our age: backlash on social media. 

Following that up-and-down freshman season at Alabama, Proctor transferred to Iowa ... and then back to Alabama. Movement like that is permitted because chaos reigns supreme across the college sports landscape these days. 

The NCAA recently formalized an injunction allowing players to transfer multiple times without having to sit out a year. The 6-foot-8, 320-pound Proctor transferred twice in three months -- first in January during the initial postseason portal window and then again after the spring window opened on April 16. 

No matter how you view the path taken, the upstanding human being and athlete from Des Moines, Iowa, deserves our sympathy and respect.

"Kadyn Proctor is a generational talent," said Jon Cochran, Proctor's offensive line coach at Southeast Polk High School. "I'm not sure the state will ever see anyone of his size and athleticism again."

Proctor also serves as a symbol of these rapidly changing times, whether he likes it or not. There's transfer freedom, but then there are the possibilities to which Proctor's migration could lead. Examining his situation, are we a lawsuit away from athletes playing for two schools in the same semester?

Given the litigious nature of major college athletic athletics, what happened with Proctor portends even more transfer freedom that could have your head spinning. One of the few NCAA transfer rules still standing says that a player cannot compete for two teams in the same championship season.

That's why Proctor is still believed to be enrolled at Iowa while his heart is back at Alabama. He has to finish his academic semester in Iowa City before venturing back to Tuscaloosa. But, given the current climate, are we one court action away from players being able to just change teams in mid-semester?

"Such a lawsuit is definitely a modern-day possibility," said Joshua Lens, assistant professor at Arkansas with extensive NCAA compliance experience. 

It's already a given courts have overshadowed NCAA academic initiatives . All it would take is one enterprising attorney, of which there seem to be plenty in this space. 

"This is where we are. We've already seen it," one Power Four official concluded.

For whatever reasons, courts seem more sympathetic to athletes regarding NCAA matters. Start with Alston v. NCAA, which forced the association's hand on name, image and likeness. 

Manhattan basketball guard DeJuan Clayton recently received an eighth year of eligibility during a game against Marist. Rutgers was able to welcome Iowa State transfer Jeremiah Williams after sitting 20 games due to gambling violations and getting a favorable court ruling. 

Outside of athletic competition, it's sometimes possible for the average student to switch schools in the same semester. 

That's what these lawsuits have become about: Is the same benefit available to the average student? Such moves might be even easier in the quarter system as opposed to semesters, which is more of a West Coast phenomenon mattering at places like Oregon , Washington , USC and Stanford . 

That's getting away from Proctor's story, though. It was only two years ago the NCAA mandated a player seeking multiple transfers "document a personal need for medical or safety reasons to depart from the previous school."

Now, all that's required of a player to transfer is a desire to try something new. Proctor did, twice in 90 days while bouncing back to his original school.  

"Getting adjusted from playing Iowa high school football [and] jumping straight into SEC football against bigger, stronger, faster dudes. That was a big part," Proctor told CBS Sports at the Rose Bowl while still at Alabama. "[It was] definitely the confidence. I didn't have the confidence that I did in high school, when I could go out there, drink a Dr. Pepper, go out to the game and win some reps, win state championships. 

"It wasn't that easy. I had to get adjusted to it." 

Proctor leaving Iowa out of high school -- after first committing to the Hawkeyes before flipping to the Crimson Tide on National Signing Day -- was the initial upset. Doing it twice was landmark. If his situation is a glimpse into the transfer future, then watch the heck out. We're just getting started.

"You can't count on anything basically until guys get out there [on the field]," Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz said. 

Way back when, 130 years ago, one of the Big Ten's founding principles was to crack down on so-called "ringers" playing for multiple schools without even being enrolled. 

Tramp athletes -- young men who prefer to travel from college to college, trading upon their athletic ability, rather than to sweat at a more gainful occupation -- still exist.

That was written in the Cambridge Sentinel in 1936. 

The concept of the "tramp athlete" actually goes back to the 1890s. Seven of the 11 players on the 1893 Michigan team were not enrolled. Michigan coaching legend Fielding Yost once left West Virginia in his final year as a player to suit up for Lafayette in an upset win over Penn . He then returned to the Mountaineers.

Sound familiar?

No one is calling Proctor a "tramp athlete." He is a bright, young student and prospect finding his future, personality and self. 

"Everybody has given up a sack," said a now more settled Proctor. "Everybody has been hated on."

He knows whatever he has/will become has taken a village. After a disastrous Alabama result in a Week 2 loss to Texas last season, Proctor and the rest of the Crimson Tide gradually improved. Proctor cited former Alabama coach Eric Wolford, now at Kentucky, and quarterback Jalen Milroe as influences. 

"There wasn't a moment," Proctor said. "It kind of just clicked after the first 3-4 games when I really wasn't having fun, letting up sacks. I was like, 'I can't do this anymore. I don't want to do this anymore. I want to provide for my team.' "

Cochran provided a glimpse of what Proctor went through. Now 40, Cochran knows just about everything there is about playing the position. Like Proctor, he grew up in Iowa. His father was an offensive line coach at Des Moines Valley High School for 36 years. Cochran played at a high level at Stanford from 2003-06 while pursuing a public policy degree.

"Walking into my redshirt freshman year, it was tough sledding," Cochran said. "I tell our guys, 'You're playing grown-man football now. My first start was at BYU playing against a D-end that decided to take his mission with the Church of Latter-Day Saints and was married with two kids. Here I am, a 19-year-old. It is grown-man football in a hurry."

Cochran says the current transfer landscape "is completely foreign to me."

"When I played, you made a commitment and stuck with it for the most part," he said. "Also, I get the struggles these college coaches are having not only having to recruit these players to come their schools but having to recruiting them to keep them there."

That begs the question: Where would Proctor be without the transfer portal? It has allowed him to not only clear his mind but change it as well.  "To be honest with you, I don't know what would have happened," Cochran said. "The perspective I was able to give him when he first got down to Alabama is that leaving the state of Iowa [was] quite a ways from home. Stanford was 1,800 miles away from where I went to high school. It wasn't easy. There was a creeping thought in my mind, 'Was I too far?' "

That question is answered on a case-by-case basis. This one is tougher: How does a kid who seems like he was born to play for Iowa end up at Alabama in the first place? Actually, how does that happen twice?

The simple answer might be that despite the legendary Nick Saban retiring, this is still Alabama . 

"It's scary what his ceiling could be," Cochran said. "I can see him potentially being one of the best tackles and offensive linemen in the country."

The deeper answer is, well, complicated.

"I really don't know," Proctor said. "It's rare, but I'm just blessed just to have my size and ability."

Five-plus years following the launch of his film financing and production company, Hammerstone Studios , producer Alex Lebovici finds himself at “a big turning point.” After working for years on “building block” projects that held little to no interest for him on the level of story, he’s been able of late to assemble an increasingly packed studio slate, devoting himself solely to making the “fun, commercial, star-driven films” he likes to watch.

Boy Kills World has weathered an unusual path to theaters, world premiering at TIFF in the midst of an actor’s strike, and with no talent on hand for publicity. Following a re-cut of the first act and the addition of voiceover from H. Jon Benjamin, who doles out Boy’s interior monologue, the film was given a distribution deal by Lionsgate/Roadside in January.

Lebovici is aware that this ultra-violent flick isn’t for everybody. The producers are taking on the responsibility of P&A which was financed by Nthibah Pictures . Currently, per Deadline midday projections, the movie is expected to earn around $2M in just under 2,000 theaters. It’s “one of those that people either love or hate,” says Lebovici, something “you’ve got to be a fan of the genre to really appreciate it.” Still, he’s hopeful for the film’s future as a discovery title, “one of those midnight movies that plays for years and years.”

By this point, Lebovici felt he had a grasp of the creative side of filmmaking, having been making shorts since he was 13. His company takes its name from the street in Thornhill, Ontario where he and friends were arrested as kids, while shooting an outdoor action scene with fake weapons. “Somebody called the police like, ‘There’s a child militia outside,'” he recalls, “and so we had like six cop cars arrest us at gunpoint.”

When Lebovici returned to his native country, he devoted himself to learning business fundamentals. “A door-to-door salesman by nature,” he accomplished this not by working on set, but rather by launching and overseeing a window cleaning business for six or seven years. Initially, he worked alongside his father and brother alone. But soon, he’d be training droves of kids from the neighborhood to work for him. Within three years, he says, he had 150 employees and was “doing like $2 million a summer,” installing and repairing water heaters and the like in the winter.

In retrospect, he says, running this business was not all that dissimilar from managing a major Hollywood production. “In Canada, the weather’s only good for a couple months of the year, so you basically had to have this production where you had no work, you could generate work, and then hire 150 people for a four-month, five-month period of time, and then manage all these different trucks and things,” Lebovici explains. “Everyday, there would be crazy amount of drama that I had to be prepared for.”

After doing this for a while and making money “hand over fist,” Lebovici had put enough away so that when he sold his piece of the business, returned to Los Angeles and began pursuing work as a producer, he’d bought himself four or five years to build connections, take risks, and work for free as needed.

“That’s a trick in this business, and that’s why there’s so many people that are wealthy from before. Because it’s so expensive and complicated and there’s a learning curve,” says the producer. “I was the right age, with the right experience, and enough money that I was sitting on, that I was able to take risks and turn down paychecks to work on projects that I believed in, or projects that I thought would put me in a good position.”

Early on, Lebovici worked on a “really terrible” zombie movie, “a bunch of small action programmers,” with the likes of Dolph Lundgren, as well as Billionaire Boys Club , a true-crime thriller that looked good on paper but proved “unwatchable” and got buried by Kevin Spacey’s #MeToo scandal.

Arguing that now is perhaps “the worst time in history” for filmmakers, given the increasing costs of production, increases in the cost of capital, the decline of the U.S. dollar’s value abroad, and the expectations streamers have set by inflating actors’s upfront salaries, Lebovici says that he faced down “some of the worst situations” in his first years on set. Still, his early projects served their purpose, as learning opportunities giving him the chance to show people what he could do. Over time, his situation began to improve, and he now feels fully “battle tested,” after weathering both the Covid pandemic and last year’s double strike.

There’s a large, albeit “calculated gamble” at the heart of Lebovici’s business strategy, which is the fact that 90% of Hammerstone’s films are made without a domestic distributor on board. Helping him to make this scenario work is Christian Mercuri’s Capstone, which serves as Hammerstone’s foreign sales arm through a joint venture, bringing in around 60% of the budget of any given project through pre-sales. To accrue the remaining funds required, he’s turned to both tax incentives and a pool of high net-worth investors — some of whom, he first met while cleaning windows — positioning them to gain a lot and risk little. In the best-case scenario, Hammerstone’s projects engender a bidding war and his investors are paid back handsomely. In failure, he says, they take a small loss, though he can always flip a dud to a “lower-tier domestic distributor” to bring some money back in.

Admittedly, Lebovici says, the financial results for Hammerstone to this point can only be described as “fine,” though there are mitigating factors to consider. While the producer had high hopes for Bill & Ted Face the Music — the third film in the Bill & Ted franchise, starring Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter — that title proved only a modest success given its unveiling at the height of the Covid pandemic. Similarly, Lebovici was gung ho about the actioner Kung Fury , starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Michael Fassbender, an adaptation of the crowdfunded short of the same name which went viral in 2015 after playing Cannes Directors’ Fortnight. That project has now sat in limbo for years, amidst a lawsuit with a Chinese financier, though Lebovici believes it remains salvageable.

Co-financed alongside New Regency and released by 20th Century Studios, Hammerstone’s biggest success to date, Barbarian , grossed 10x its $4.5M production cost with $45M worldwide. The film was highly acclaimed and launched director Zach Cregger toward multiple hot bidding wars on other projects, including Weapons at New Line with Josh Brolin and Julia Garner starring.

While Barbarian could have perhaps performed even better given a larger theatrical push, this isn’t to discount what Hammerstone gained from the project and its cultural cachet. Bringing in another nice chunk of change through an exclusive streaming window on Max, it established the company as one to watch and fostered an all new level of opportunity. “It was very meaningful because first of all, we started getting horror films sent to us, left, right and center,” he recalls. “It gave some prestige to our company and it’s opened a lot of doors. There’s always been a lot of access we’ve had to content, but now a lot more respect for the taste that we have.”

As Hammerstone begins its ascension, Lebovici has the grandest of visions for what the company can become. While looking to continue to produce breakout works, his hope is one day expand into distribution, as well. “If I have the international side and we are good content creators, if we can self-release our own movies, that’s also an ideal, long term,” he says. “Because then, we become a mini Lionsgate, a mini A24.”

The world of Sand Land , as you may have surmised from the title, is comprised of sand and lots of it. But it wasn’t always this way. The version of the world we’re introduced to at the start of the game is the result of a massive environmental disaster, leaving its land barren and its inhabitants starving for water.

Crafted by the late Akira Toriyama (“Dragon Ball”) and developed by the talented team at ILCA ( One Piece Odyssey ), Sand Land tells the tale of humans and demons coming together to try and save their devastated world. This is where you come in.

As the Fiend Prince Beelzebub, along with his friends Sheriff Rao and the demon Thief, you’ll set off on an adventure in search of a “Legendary Spring,” one that may hold the key to restoring water to the region. Along the way you’ll encounter ferocious wildlife, wild mercenaries, challenging soldiers, and giant-ass scorpions to name a few. You’ll also encounter many friendly faces who want to help you on your journey.

Oh, and there’s a tank. Your very own armored chariot will be a key component in your adventure within this action role-playing game as you’ll learn how to upgrade it, improve its various components, and learn how to master vehicular combat if you have any hope of saving this world.

To help set you on your way in Sand Land , we’ve assembled a couple of starting tips to help get your adventure off the right track. From understanding where to spend Skill Points, to populating your town, and revealing what’s up with all those Water Supply Points, we hope these starters will help ease you into this epic adventure.

Invest in Sheriff Rao Early

A big aspect of Sand Land ‘s early game involves a lot of combat with your tank. Spending Skill Points on Sheriff Rao can help make many of these encounters much easier as his active abilities all help with dealing damage, while his passive skills act as buffs for those abilities. He can also help with landing a couple of punches when it comes to melee combat with his Tonfa Attack.

Some of our favorites were his Vehicular Warfare ability, paired with VW: Upgrade. This is incredibly useful as it spawns an additional mini-tank that can help draw fire and deal damage — you’ll often find yourself outgunned and surrounded in many instances, so this will come in handy. We also liked Poison Gas which can confuse and incapacitate enemies — very helpful for giving you an opening for attack (or a breather) against some of the most difficult foes.

Level Up Thief When Ready to Start Looting

Completing main quests and side quests will net you close to the necessary amount of components and credits to upgrade your vehicles early on as the game eases you into its mechanics. It’s later when you really need to spend some more time out in the game’s world where you’ll find that you need to be making the most of every bit of scrap you can find – this is where Thief is at his strongest.

While his active skills can help a bit in battle — like Boom Box – it’s his passive skills like Zeni Ahoy and Pilfering Pro that can help the most when needing money and increased drop rates from defeated enemies. These passives can make the loot you acquire more plentiful and your pockets fuller when it comes to purchasing components from vendors found in the world.

Don’t Skip on Water Supply Points

As you’ll soon find out, the world of Sand Land is huge and eventually you’ll find yourself exploring nearly every inch of it by the time you’re done with it. You’ll also find that there will be a fair amount of backtracking involved in your quests.

To help save you some time, it’s highly recommended you take every opportunity to activate Water Supply Points that you come across on your way to those objectives. Not only will they refill your life and water gauge, but many of these supply points also unlock as a Fast Travel Location – which can be super useful in saving you time when your quest involves you checking back in with your quest giver for your reward.

Build Up Your Town

One of the smartest moves you can make is to upgrade your town early on so that you have a solid foundation that you can build upon later in the game. The main way to upgrade your town is by convincing NPCs to move in and, often, open shops — the quests to recruit the NPCs and the shops they run will help you get materials or weapons you need for vehicle upgrades.

Then, once the shops are established, make it a habit to check in with the shop owners as they may have some requests for you to complete. Finishing these quests will improve the shop vendor’s inventory with useful and valuable items to help you in the game.

Talk with Peddlers and Vendors Often

To make new vehicles or improve their components, you will need to craft. A lot of crafting. This process requires various types of materials and components that you can either get from exploring the wasteland or purchasing from vendors, like those found in the Junker Market (or later in your Town once you’ve upgraded it a bit).

Both Peddlers and Vendors will have their stock update throughout the game. So, if you find yourself missing out on Raptor Alloy or missing a Frame Component to build a new vehicle, those are the folks you want to touch base with. Some are even open for trading material like ore for scrap components. In short: Talk to everyone. You never know what they might be offering – for a price of course.
