The order of the activities might vary depending on the weather conditions and on your arrival time.

Start your adventure with a hotel pickup in Iquitos (if arriving a day prior) or an airport pickup (for same-day arrivals before 9:00 am). Luggage can be stored at our local office. Embark from Iquitos port on a boat ride to the lodge, with a stop at Monkey Island (or “Fundo Pedrito” in dry season) to observe and interact with endangered monkey species, along with local flora and fauna.

Upon lodge arrival, embark on a 2-hour walk through Yanamono Reserve, encountering captivating flora and fauna.

As night descends, experience the enchantment of an open boat tour on the Amazon River, immersing in the jungle’s sounds as the engine is silenced. A truly unforgettable highlight for many travelers.

Day 2 starts early with a bird-spotting boat ride, followed by a visit to the Yaguas indigenous tribe. Engage in learning about their lifestyle, customs, and traditions, joining them in dance and a blowgun contest. The afternoon brings a unique fishing experience, using only a stick and meat to catch piranhas and the possibility of encountering pink dolphins.

Later, we’ll do a jungle walk to experience its enchanting nocturnal transformation. Discover a different facet of the jungle as night falls, perfect for spotting frogs, snakes, sloths, and tarantulas. Immerse yourself in the magical symphony of nocturnal sounds from insects, birds, cats and owls.

On the last day, we’ll visit Yanamono Island, where the majestic Victoria Regia, the queen of water lilies, can be seen. Afterwards, you’ll have some time to relax at the lodge.

Concluding your stay, enjoy a farewell lunch at the lodge, complete the check-out process, and commence your return to Iquitos. Upon reaching Iquitos, our service includes either transportation to your hotel or transfer to the airport (recommended flights should be scheduled for after 5:30 pm).

• Heavy luggage on the boat. Most travelers leave their main luggage in the safe-storage in headquarters in Iquitos itself. If you still wish to bring your main luggage, you can pay $10 per suitcase (next to the small case that is already included) in cash at headquarters.
• Airport transfer(s) in case you arrive a day before the tour starts or after the tour ends (we’ll be happy to help organize a trustworthy driver)

Terms of Reservation

• Please contact us before booking so we can check for availability.
• Minimum 3 days before and there is no minimum age for children.
• The yellow fever vaccine is not obligatory for this tour, it’s optional.
• 2 people: either a room with double bed or separate beds (select 2x, price indicated is per person)
• 3 people: a) select 3x 1 bedroom with 3 separate beds for 3 people (together) or b) select 2x the double bedroom and 1x the single bedroom (to sleep separate)
• 1 person: single bedroom
• The maximum number of people in a group per guide is 10.
• There is limited wifi available in the lodge and you’ll have electricity in the morning, at noon and at night (from 6-8 am, 12-2 pm and 6-11 pm).
• The activities of the itinerary can vary depending on the arrivals and departures of the flights and also on the weather conditions.
• The transfer from Iquitos to the harbour, from where you take the boat to the lodge, is at 10:00 am. The transfer from the lodge back to Iquitos is at 2:00 pm (both subject to changes due to flight schedules).
• Delayed flight: If your flight arrives later than 2:00 pm, It’s no longer possible to head to the lodge and you will have to spend the first night at the lodge’s hotel in Iquitos city (free of charge, subject to availability). On the next day, you’ll head to the jungle in the morning, starting with the program of the second day after you’ve arrived. In case of delays or later flights than recommended, you’ll miss the first day’s program as the itinerary is fixed. Any claims will have to be done with the airline.
• Book your flight to Iquitos in the morning so that you arrive before 9:00 am and for your return flight to Lima in the afternoon later than 5:30 pm. We recommend booking your flight with LATAM as their flights tend to be on time for this route.
• Passenger luggage is limited to 10 kg p. person. You can store the rest of your luggage in the administrative office in Iquitos in order to take only the most essential things.

• Postponements are possible until 24h before the start of the tour, only until March 2025.

Day 1 Discover Iquitos's Essence Peru Jungle Trips

Your exciting journey through the Amazon rainforest begins upon arrival in Iquitos .

Exploring Iquitos

Our guide will pick you up at your hotel or the airport , and then you’ll start exploring the city’s rich history , visiting the Plaza de Armas and the Tarapacá Malecón , where impressive buildings from the rubber era , such as the Palace Hotel and the Iron House , stand tall.

Meeting of the Rivers

We will depart from the Bellavista Port , located on the banks of the Nanay River .

This charming market will give you the opportunity to immerse yourself in traditional Amazonian cuisine . From grilled lagarto (alligator) to exquisite Suris (local delicacies) , you’ll be able to savor authentic flavors . After that, we will embark on a typical Amazonian boat to navigate the Nanay River .

In just a few minutes, we will witness the encounter between the Nanay, Itaya, and Amazonas rivers .

This confluence of murky and dark waters offers a unique visual spectacle, home to pink and gray dolphins , emblematic species of freshwater.

Here, you will be able to get up close and personal with these fascinating creatures and learn about their diet .

Journey to San Juan de Huashalado

We will navigate to the community of San Juan de Huashalado , a step between the Amazon River and the Yanayacu River .

Here, we will take a short walk through the community to board a new boat on the Yanayacu River .

For 30 minutes , we will navigate through this river until we reach the cozy Eco Lodge .

Afternoon Activities

2:00 PM: After settling in at the lodge, we will prepare for lunch.

4:30 PM: We will enjoy a peaceful canoe ride by rowing through the river, immersing ourselves in the natural symphony of the forest and admiring the beautiful Amazonian sunset.

Evening at the Lodge

7:30 PM: We will return to the lodge for dinner and rest in the middle of the jungle.

Day 2 Sunrise, Wildlife, and Adventures at Yanayacu's Lodge

5:00 AM: We will start the day with a canoe excursion to witness the sunrise and birdwatching.

7:30 AM: After breakfast, we will embark on an ethnobotanical hike through the flooded forest.

Here, marvel at ancient trees like ceibas, kapocs, and Machira Coriáceas.

During the hike, you will have the opportunity to observe monkeys, sloths, and other wildlife in their natural habitat.

2:00 PM: Lunch at the lodge.

4:00 PM: Tonight, we will camp in the heart of the exuberant jungle, connecting with nature and the Pachamama.

We will listen to local legends while enjoying a barbecue outdoors.

Later, we will embark on a short nocturnal hike to spot insects, such as tarantulas.

Day 3 Unique Encounter with Monkeys, Yagua Artisans, and Departure from the Peruvian Amazon

7:00 AM: After breakfast, we will head towards the monkey island, a primate rescue center where you can interact and play with them.

We will then return to the lodge and visit a clan of Yagua Natives, artisans dedicated to selling handicrafts and demonstrating traditional dances.

You will also have the opportunity to take a final dip in the Amazon River as a farewell to our journey.

During the 3-day Iquitos Tour , you will explore the Peruvian Amazon with a local guide. A lodge located across from the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve will serve as a home base. As a result of a rural community tourism project, the lodge is managed by the native community , who will do everything possible to give you the best experience. In addition, by booking this tour, you will support the local community while authentically discovering the jungle.

The tour offers a private service and includes everything necessary to get the most from the experience: transportation from Iquitos, accommodation in a private room, full board, and all the activities listed in the description. Please note that the itinerary displayed is indicative and you can customize your itinerary by choosing the preferred excursions .

🏨 Hotel pick-up: pick-up is between 8:00 am and 10:00 am (exact pick-up time will be confirmed a few days before the tour begins).

🛬 Airport pick-up: upon landing the guide will be waiting for you. For logistical reasons, you may wait together for up to 60 minutes to pick up other travelers.

🪫The lodge is of traditional rustic construction, made entirely of wood that provides electricity from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm but no hot water.

💲The tour is only available to book for private service of a group. Keep in mind, the price per person is reduced for each additional member.

If you cancel at least 72 hours before the tour begins, 100% of the amount paid will be refunded. After that time, or in case of a no-show, no refunds will be provided.

Tour itinerary

Day 1 city of iquitos - transfer to the jungle lodge, pick-up at accommodation or iquitos airport.

The guide will pick you up at your accommodation between 8:00 am and 10:00 am or at the Iquitos airport when your flight arrives. Remember to indicate the address of your accommodation or your flight details to coordinate the pick-up.

If you don't have your accommodation or flight information yet it's no problem, you can still make the reservation and give us the information later.

Transfer from Iquitos to Nauta and the lodge.

With your guide and the other travelers, you will take a short road trip (less than 2 hours) to Nauta. Once there, you will board the large boat that will take you to the lodge, located on the banks of the Ucayali River and across from the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. Depending on your group's departure time from Iquitos, you will have lunch in Nauta or upon arrival at the lodge.

During the 3-hour boat ride, you will pass by the point where the Ucayali River and the Marañon River meet which is considered the birthplace of the Amazon River.

During the trip between Iquitos and the lodge you will share transportation with other travelers in a large boat. The remainder of the tour is a private service and small boats are used.

Arrival to Iquitos Jungle Lodge.

After a 3-hour boat ride you will arrive at the lodge. You will settle into your private room and after lunch, the Amazon adventure begins!

Spend your afternoon on a boat ride , enjoying the sunset, and swimming with pink dolphins, which are most active at this time. Return to the lodge for dinner and in the evening search for nocturnal animals on an excursion.

DAY 2 Iquitos jungle

After eating breakfast and getting your strength back, the second day in the Iquitos jungle begins with a hike. Following a short boat ride, disembark on a trailhead with lots of biodiversity. Take a few snaps to never forget the spectacular nature of the Amazon while your guide explains the details of the jungle and its inhabitants.

🐒 Bird and monkey watching .

Return to the lodge for lunch and rest. We recommend visiting the hammock room at the top of the lodge, the perfect place for a nap or a quiet read. Next, take another boat ride to see the wildlife. The guide will take you to see monkeys and, if you are lucky, some will even approach the boat to say hello.

🐊 Night boat expedition to see caimans

At sunset return to the lodge for dinner and after dark, embark on a boat trip to look for caimans. By now you may have noticed that the guide has an uncanny ability to find animals, but this method might surprise you: he shines a flashlight on the river and locates the caimans by using the light reflected in their eyes 🤯 Quite an adventure!

DAY 3 Iquitos jungle - Return to the city of Iquitos

After breakfast at the lodge, take another boat ride to continue discovering the expansive jungle. Start your day by casting your line for the most iconic fish in the Amazon, piranhas. On the way back, see the impressive Amazonian Victorias, also known as the giant water lilies.

📍 Return to Iquitos city or airport.

Enjoy a refreshing lunch before saying goodbye to your guide and the team. At about 2:00 pm set sail for Iquitos on the big boat.

The schedule is indicative, the guide will take you to the airport or to your accommodation at the necessary time.

What to bring to Iquitos Jungle Tour 3 Days

The jungle is hot and humid where mosquitos are plentiful. For your comfort, the lodge offers mosquito nets in private rooms and the dining hall but during the outdoor excursions it is important to be protected, so we recommend that you bring:

Yes, each room is equipped with mosquito nets on the windows and beds. In addition, we recommend carrying a tropical repellent to use several times a day.

Are hot showers available?

No, the lodge does not have hot water, but with the jungle heat, you'll be grateful to cool off in the showers.

What is the climate like in the Iquitos Jungle?

All year round is suitable for enjoying the Iquitos Jungle. The Amazonian climate is typically hot and humid with the rainy season beginning in December and ending in May. It should be noted that it does not rain all day but usually just for a short and intense time during the afternoon with clear skies the rest of the day.

• Morning departure from Iquitos City via auto to arrive in the port town of Nanay (Bellavista), where the Rio Nanay meets the Rio Amazonas. After departing by boat we will travel downriver 70 KM (about 2 hours). During the riverboat trip we will have a great possibility of seeing caimans, turtles, herons, pink river dolphins, snakes, and many other species of flora/fauna along the riverbank.
• Monkey Island – a small island about 15 minutes from the Maniti Lodge, which shelters a large number of monkeys in their natural habitat. During your visit on the island you will have the unique opportunity to observe and interact with a wide variety of monkeys that include: Sloth, Goeldi’s monkey, Tamarin monkey, Capuchin monkey, Yellow-Handed Titi monkey, Masked Titi monkey, Cebidae monkey, Wooly monkey, Squirrel monkey, Spider monkey, South American Coati monkey, and many more! Along with the various species of monkeys you will have to opportunity to hold very large Anacondas, Boas and interact with the very unique and rare Amazonian mata-mata turtle. At Monkey Island we will also see alligators, turtles, toucans, macaws, parrots, etc.

Tour Detail

Shared tour:  Please note that you may meet many people from other groups who booked the same tour with us and coincided with you on the same departure day and join us.

Meals included:  3 lunches, 3 dinners, and 3 breakfasts. Including vegetarian and vegan options – just let us know in advance.

Accommodation:  SOLO travelers joining group trips are paired in twins or in a group in a multi-share dorm in a country lodge with someone of the same sex for the duration of the activity.

DAY 1 LOCAL MARKET - PINK DOLPHINS - ANACONDAS

We will pick you up at the airport or hotel. We will start the tour with a brief visit to the local market of Bellavista Nanay. Here, you will have the opportunity to see fruits and typical products of the jungle like; El Aguaje (palm fruit), El Suri (edible weevil), Juane which is the emblematic dish of the region, and more varieties of Amazonian fish.

After our tour, we will head to the pier, where our Amazon adventure will begin. We will navigate in a typical boat through the mightiest river in the world, the Amazon River. The tour will allow you to observe the wonderful panorama in which the imposing river makes its way through the exuberant jungle. Travel time approximately 1hr30min. Once at the Lodge, our staff offers you a typical fresh juice from the region. Then we will go to our rooms to rest a bit. Our lunch will be served 1 hour after our arrival. Here is the time to try the typical food from the Peruvian Amazon.

Finished our delicious lunch, we will get ready to visit a riverside family that still preserves their ancestral traditions and have some species of animals like; anacondas, bear sloths, turtles, toucans, macaws, and others. We will sail on the Amazon River to look for gray and pink dolphins. It is your chance to jump into the river and swim close to the dolphins. During this day, we will have the opportunity to enjoy the sunset on the banks of the Amazon River. After enjoying the afternoon in the waters of the Amazon River and the dolphins, we will have a delicious dinner at our lodge.

After dinner and sunset, we will go on a night hike through the jungle. We will listen to the nocturnal sounds of the forest and observe the species that only emerge at night. Some species like; fireflies, beetles, walking sticks, frogs, tarantulas, snakes, and nocturnal birds. After our expedition, we will return to our lodge to rest and recharge our energies for the next day.

DAY 2 MONKEYS ISLAND - FISHING PIRANHAS - ALLIGATORS

We got up early at 5.30 am. We will sail in a canoe across blackwater lake for our birding tour. It is the best time to observe many different bird species like; kingfishers, toucans, jacanas, herons, hawks, and more. We will have the opportunity to see the prehistoric bird called Hoatzin. After a morning bird tour, we will return to the lodge, where our breakfast awaits us. Our next activity will be the visit to Monkeys Island. Boat trip through the Amazon. Here we can see up to 8 varieties of primates in their natural habitats like; the Spider Monkey, Woolly Monkey, Titi Monkey, Tamarin Monkey, Pygmy Marmoset, Howler Monkey, Squirrel Monkey, and Saki Monk. We will also observe other animals like; macaws and sloths.

This monkey sanctuary is a non-profit organization formed and run by a local family to protect the New World monkeys. Since 1997 they have been in charge of the rescue, rehabilitation, and release of monkeys that have been victims of species trafficking. An attractive place where children and adults can interact and learn more about these jungle species. We will return to our lodge for a delicious lunch and a short rest. Then, we will continue with navigation for a short time. In the next activity, we will have the opportunity to fish in the Amazon river some piranhas, catfish, sardines, etc. Our guide will provide you with traditional fishing tools.

After an entertaining afternoon, we will return to the lodge for dinner. After resting, we will continue with a night excursion by canoe to listen to the nocturnal sounds of the tropical jungle and observe different species of animals like; nocturnal birds, alligators, snakes, electric eels, and more.

DAY 3 YANAYACU RIVER - GIANT TREE

After breakfast, we will begin our day navigating the Amazon River towards the Yanayacu River Basin. A blackwater river is rich in flora and fauna. This ecosystem is considered by researchers as the jungle of mirrors. We will go in search of exotic birds, mammals, insects, primates, and sloths and see firsthand the biodiversity of the rainforest along the riverbank. After our delicious lunch, we will take an ethnobotanical walk through the jungle, where we will have the opportunity to see the giant Lupuna tree (Ceiba Petandra), the largest tree in the Amazon rainforest that can grow to more than 164 feet (50 mt). We will also be able to see a variety of birds, insects, arachnids, reptiles, and amphibians along the way. Later we will go back to the lodge for dinner and rest till the next day.

DAY 4 YAGUA NATIVE COMMUNITY - IQUITOS

Breakfast at the Lodge

After our breakfast we will head upriver for 30 minutes to visit the Yagua Native Community where we will enjoy some of their typical dances, rituals and customs. We will also have the opportunity to use one of their hunting weapons “Blow Dart”, an ancestral instrument of the tribe.

At the end of the visit we will return to the lodge to enjoy our last lunch together. After having enjoyed our meal, we will begin our return trip upriver to the city of Iquitos for 2 hours.

Once you arrive in the city, we will be ready to drop you off at your respective destinations (airport / hostel)
