Journey to Space  is a celebration of space exploration, a tribute to international cooperation in space research and a vision toward our near-term future beyond Earth’s orbit – a manned mission to Mars within a generation. The film is a capstone space film, building on the groundbreaking and seminal giant screen space productions of the past 30 years—films that are themselves a part of our proud history in space, beautifully and inspiringly chronicling the space shuttle orbiter program, MIR, the International Space Station and the Hubble telescope.  Journey to Space  recognizes these accolades in the context of our future in space, what we’ve learned, and how to apply this knowledge to deep space missions. The film takes audiences on a behind-the-scenes tour of the international effort to send astronauts to Mars within the next 20 years, culminating in a virtual voyage to the Red Planet. Dazzling and meticulous computer imagery depicts the new machines that will soon enter into our lexicon – Orion, Olympus, SLS rockets – spacecraft, habitats, landers, and vehicles necessary to achieve interplanetary travel, touchdown and colonization.

Journey to Space  taps into the same human fervor and fascination that makes science fiction so popular, our unquenchable drive to explore and discover what lies beyond. This film, though, is not fiction. Mars is the next step in what will be an unending human odyssey to explore the cosmos. Journey to Space is about the next chapter, a vision certain to inspire today’s young explorers and dreamers. It is time to take the next great leap into space. It is time for our species, in the words of Carl Sagan, to “set sail across the cosmic ocean.” Next stop… Mars!

Presented by Toyota and Boeing,  Journey to Space  is an immersive 2D and 3D film produced by K2 Communications and Giant Screen Films in association with the Giant Dome Theater Consortium. Additional production support and consultation was provided by The Smithsonian Institute, The Kennedy Space Center, the California Science Center and NASA.

Sony and Apple have released the first trailer for “Fly Me to the Moon,” a romantic comedy starring Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum , which is set to premiere on July 12. The film is set against the 1960s space race and features Johansson as a marketing exec hired by NASA to film a fake moon landing in case the real mission fails. Apple won the project in a $100 million deal following a bidding war in 2022, and the project was formerly known as “Project Artemis.”

“Channing is such an easy-going actor, good spirited and professional. Falling in love with him onscreen was pretty easy. He’s such a likable person,” Johansson recently told People magazine . “Kelly and Cole are such opposites. It was fun to play that dynamic with Channing.”

Jim Rash, Ray Romano, Anna Garcia, Donald Elise Watkins, Noah Robbins, Colin Woodell, Nick Dillenburg, Christian Zuber and Woody Harrelson round out the cast. Greg Berlanti will direct from a script by Rose Gilroy.

Berlanti has worked as a showrunner, writer and producer on TV shows such as “Arrow,” “The Flash,” “The Flight Attendant” and “Riverdale.” He has also directed the films “Love, Simon” and “The Broken Hearts Club.”

Johansson produces under her These Pictures banner, with Jonathan Lia and Keenan Flynn producing alongside her for These Pictures. Sarah Schechter produces for Berlanti Productions. Robert Dohrmann serves as executive producer.

N ow we know that all those vintage cars and production trucks were doing at the Kennedy Space Center last year . The trailer for " Fly Me to the Moon ," starring Scarlett Johansson, Channing Tatum, Ray Romano and Jim Rash, dropped Monday just before a total eclipse crawled up the continental United States.

The movie, described as a "sharp, stylish comedy-drama set against the high-stakes backdrop of NASA’s historic Apollo 11 moon landing," is about Johansson's marketing character getting brought in to improve NASA's PR despite resistance from the launch director, played by Tatum.

"When the White House deems the mission too important to fail, Jones is directed to stage a fake moon landing as back-up and the countdown truly begins…" the movie website says.

What is 'fly me to the moon' about.

The movie, written by Rose Gilroy, Bill Kirstein and Keenan Flynn and directed by Greg Berlanti, is about both the first moon landing and the faking of it.

Kelly Jones, played by Johansson, is a marketing specialist hired by NASA to get the country interested in the moon landing.

"Public support for the moon mission is rock bottom," says a NASA official played by Woody Harrelson. The trailer shows her efforts at merchandising tie-ins and more-telegenic astronaut stand-ins before it gets down to her real project: shooting a fake moon landing as a "backup" in case the real one doesn't fly.

Tatum's launch director, Cole Davis, has some issues with it (and with everything going wrong in the mission) and they butt heads while the inevitable chemistry builds up.

“If you fake this mission, every single thing that we have sacrificed will have been for nothing,” Tatum warns Johansson.

Was 'Fly Me to the Moon' shot in Florida?

Some scenes were shot at Cape Canaveral in March 2023 but most of it was shot in Georgia, according to the IMDB.com production notes . Tybee Island stood in for Cocoa Beach, Fort Pulaski became the Kennedy Space Center, and other scenes were shot in Savannah.

Wasn't the movie called 'Project Artemis'?

The movie was called "Project Artemis" during production, and that is the name of the fake moon landing project as seen on a folder being slid across a table to Johannsson in the trailer. Movies are often shot under different names to throw off the media and fans and avoid crowds showing up that might interfere with shooting.

When is 'Fly Me to the Moon' coming out?

"Fly Me to the Moon" is set for theatrical release on July 12.
