Edward, a boy created by an eccentric inventor, lives in a castle high on a hill. When his creator dies, he is left alone and unfinished with only scissors for his hands until a kindly townswoman invites him to live with her suburban family. Can Edward find his place in the well-meaning community which struggles to see past his curious appearance to the innocence and gentleness within?

The show features set and costumes by Lez Brotherston, lighting design by Howard Harrison, and sound design by Paul Groothuis.
The show's casting has been unveiled, featuring a talented ensemble that includes Liam Mower and Stephen Murray as Edward Scissorhands, Katrina Lyndon and Ashley Shaw as Kim Boggs, Kerry Biggin, Etta Murfitt, and Mami Tomotani as Peg Boggs, and Glenn Graham and Dominic North as Bill Boggs. The cast includes Benjamin Barlow Bazeley, Ben Brown, Stephanie Billers, Nicole Kabera, Ashley Shaw, James Lovell, Luke Murphy, Reece Causton, and many more.
Matthew Bourne expressed his appreciation for the generational casting in the show, emphasizing that it allows the production to support younger dancers while reuniting with former New Adventures stars in the roles of parents, creating an authentic family atmosphere.
Edward Scissorhands has carved a place in the hearts of audiences worldwide since its premiere in 2005, with sell-out performances in America, Australia, Korea, Japan, and Europe. After its first major revival in 2014, the production returns to UK theatres for the first time in nine years, promising a spellbinding experience for new and returning fans. Matthew Bourne’s Edward Scissorhands embarks on six-month UK tour
14 September 2023 by Gramilano Leave a Comment
Matthew Bourne's Edward Scissorhands will embark on an 18-venue UK tour in November.
Opening on 20 November 2023 at the Theatre Royal in Plymouth New Adventures ‘ production will run until 25 May 2024 when it plays the final performance at the King's Theatre in Glasgow [full tour dates below]. The tour includes a seven-week Christmas Season (5 December 2023 – 20 January 2024) at Sadler's Wells in London.
Bourne says,
Never has the story of Edward Scissorhands been more timely. In an era when uniqueness and identity is both celebrated and reviled, its story of how we treat anyone who appears to be different in our communities is as poignant and relevant as when my dear friend Caroline Thompson wrote the screenplay for Tim Burton 's legendary movie fable some 33 years ago.
The ballet tells the story of Edward, a boy created by an eccentric inventor. When his creator dies, he is left alone and unfinished with only scissors for hands. A kindly townswoman invites him to live with her suburban family, but can Edward find his place in the well-meaning community which struggles to see past his curious appearance to the innocence and gentleness within?
It is based on the Tim Burton movie and features the hauntingly beautiful music of Danny Elfman and Terry Davies, Bourne and his company, New Adventures return to this witty, bittersweet story of an incomplete boy left alone in a strange new world.
The production will star Liam Mower and Stephen Murray as Edward Scissorhands with Katrina Lyndon and Ashley Shaw as Kim Boggs. Featuring Kerry Biggin, Etta Murfitt and Mami Tomotani as Peg Boggs and Glenn Graham and Dominic North as Bill Boggs. Benjamin Barlow Bazeley and Ben Brown will play Jim Upton with Stephanie Billers, Nicole Kabera and Ashley Shaw as Joyce Monroe and James Lovell, Luke Murphy and Reece Causton as her husband, George.
Bourne adds,
Once again I am truly indebted to Caroline, Tim Burton and Danny Elfman for trusting us with their beloved tale. In fact, New Adventures is the only company in the world that performs Edward Scissorhands as a theatrical spectacle. One of the joys of our show is the generational casting. Our town of Harmony USA is made up of six families, a Mother, a Father, a Son and a Daughter (though this year we have also added a same-sex parent family for the first time). New Adventures truly is a family and never more so than in this production.

Matthew Bourne's SWAN LAKE Celebrates 30th Anniversary With a 2024-25 UK Tour
The tour kicks off in November at Theatre Royal Plymouth.
Matthew Bourne ’s Swan Lake will return for its 30th anniversary with a 2024-25 UK tour. This reinvention of Tchaikovsky's masterpiece caused a sensation when it premiered almost 30 years ago and has since become the most successful dance theatre production of all time. In celebration of that ongoing impact, Swan Lake will take flight once more in this major revival.
Matthew Bourne ’s Swan Lake begins at Theatre Royal Plymouth from 11 November until 16 November before visiting The Lowry, Salford from 19 November until 30 November, ahead of the 8-week annual Christmas season at Sadler’s Wells from 3 December 2024 to 26 January 2025. Further tour dates and casting to be announced soon.
Matthew Bourne said today, “When our Swan Lake was premiered nearly 30 years ago it created a sensation that none of us could have predicted. I think we knew that we had a good idea but could never have dreamt of the impact it would have on all of us, our audiences and the wider dance world. I have seen over those 30 years how this production has continued to change lives, create new audiences and inspire young dancers.
The inspiration of Swan Lake is central to our “talent development” programme at New Adventures, especially in our Cygnet School and Swan School, where we aim to develop the dancers of the future to feature in our many productions. Indeed, this new revival of Swan Lake will feature dancers who have been nurtured through these programmes, or through their professional development as New Adventures company members, with many of them making their debuts in these coveted roles.
As our swans take flight once more in this major revival, I’m full of anticipation for the challenges it will bring for our next generation of dancers and the wonder that it will bring to audiences who will experience it for the very first time.”
Thrilling, bold, witty and emotive, this genre-defining event is still best known for replacing the female corps-de-ballet with a menacing male ensemble, which shattered convention, turning tradition on its head.
First staged at Sadler’s Wells in London in 1995, Matthew Bourne ’s Swan Lake took the dance theatre world by storm becoming the longest running full-length dance classic in the West End and on Broadway. It has since been performed across the globe, collecting over thirty international accolades including the Olivier Award for Best New Dance Production and three Tony Awards for Best Director of a Musical, Best Choreography and Best Costume Design.
Alongside performances of Matthew Bourne ’s Swan Lake, New Adventures will deliver a programme of activity designed to encourage talent development, and to improve the well-being of children and young people through engaging them in dance. In addition to the New Adventures regular Schools Tour, this expanded programme will be specific to Swan Lake with further details to be announced.

New Adventures and Sadler’s Wells will present the production across a 12-week UK tour and five-week summer season at Sadler’s Wells.
Matthew Bourne’s Romeo and Juliet gives Shakespeare’s timeless story of forbidden love a scintillating injection of raw passion and youthful vitality. Confined against their will by a society that seeks to divide, our two young lovers must follow their hearts as they risk everything to be together. A masterful re-telling of an ageless tale of teenage discovery and the madness of first love, Romeo and Juliet garnered universal critical acclaim when it premiered in 2019, and now joins the New Adventures repertoire alongside the very best of Bourne’s world renowned dance theatre productions.
Matthew Bourne’s Romeo and Juliet 2023 tour dates and venues

Matthew Bourne said: “I had resisted creating a new production of Romeo and Juliet for many years wondering if there was anything new to say in a much-performed work. In 2019 I found that inspiration in a countrywide young talent development project that surrounded the original production.
“Working alongside my usual world class creative team but with a team of ‘young artistic associates’ and a young cast of super talented emerging dance artists, we created something relevant, questioning and deeply moving…. But also, an unexpected hit show!
“I’m therefore thrilled to announce its long-awaited return as part of the celebrated New Adventures repertoire to entertain and provoke audiences with its powerful and timely tale of young love.”
