Benefits of Modere Collagen

Modere Collagen Before and After: Real Results Revealed

Improved Skin Elasticity

One of the most noticeable benefits of Modere Collagen is improved skin elasticity. As we age, our skin loses elasticity, leading to sagging and wrinkles. But Modere Collagen helps to restore that elasticity, resulting in firmer, smoother skin.

Most users notice a significant improvement in the firmness and elasticity of their skin since using Modere Collagen .

Reduced Wrinkles and Fine Lines

Another benefit of Modere Collagen is its ability to reduce wrinkles and fine lines. Collagen is a key component of our skin, and as we age, our bodies produce less of it. Modere Collagen supplements can help to boost collagen production, resulting in fewer wrinkles and fine lines.

Stronger Nails

Modere Collagen is not just beneficial for your skin – it can also help to strengthen your nails. Collagen is a key component of our nails, and supplementing with Modere Collagen can help to improve nail strength and reduce brittleness.

Healthier Hair

Finally, Modere Collagen can also help to promote healthier hair. Collagen is a key component of our hair, and supplementing with Modere Collagen can help to improve hair strength and reduce breakage.

How to Use Modere Collagen

Modere Collagen Before and After: Real Results Revealed

Precautions

Modere Collagen is generally safe for most people to use. However, if you have any pre-existing medical conditions or are taking any medications, it is always best to consult with your healthcare provider before starting any new supplement.

Modere Collagen Review + how it compares other collagen brands

post featured image

My review of Modere liquid collagen and how it compares to other brands and types of collagen.

Chances are you’ve heard the word “collagen” a lot lately. It’s become a popular buzzword in the world of anti-aging, skin, and joint health, but first, what is it? Collagen is a protein in our bodies responsible for making strong bones, muscles, tendons, etc. And when you’re young, your body produces a lot of collagen, which is part of why we feel so agile and youthful in our younger years.

But as we age, our body stops producing as much collagen, which results in our bodies feeling stiffer and less agile and our skin begins to sag and wrinkle and our hair begins to thin. All of the things we complain about as we age, right? But hey, it’s just part of it! (I do miss the days where I didn’t really need to warm up before a workout though!)

Your body starts to decrease collagen production in your 20s and you lose about 1% of your collagen every year, so by age 50 you have nearly 30% less collagen than you did at 20, and almost 50% less collagen by the time you’re 70.

While there are many types of collagen in our bodies, type II is most important for articular cartilage (the connective tissue in our joints). The three major components for healthy joints are type II collagen, hyaluronic acid (essential for skin hydration, tissue maintenance, etc.), and chondroitin sulfate (supports joint flexibility).

The most important type for skin, nail and hair health is Type I collagen. And some studies show that taking collagen supplements for several months can improve skin elasticity, wrinkles and roughness, as well as signs of aging.

So then the question poses itself, “Can you just take more collagen in through your diet?”.

And the answer is…sort of. I’ve taken collagen for years and years and it’s one of those things that I can’t say definitively made a difference since there are so many things that could go into my joint health and my mobility (or lack thereof!), including my exercise routine, genetics, pregnancy, breastfeeding and more. And there’s mixed research when it comes to taking collagen supplements, but I’ve found a lot of comfort in the fact that one of my favorite running cookbooks ( Run Fast Eat Slow ) recommends collagen since I wholeheartedly trust the authors of that cookbook (Shalane Flanagan and Elyse Kopecky). But, most dietitians recommend that if you are going to take collagen, it should come through food sources (like bone broth) for the best results.

All that to say, I love the idea of collagen supplements and I do feel like they can provide some benefits and they certainly can’t hurt as long as you’re getting a high-quality brand. I’ve always taken a powdered form, usually Collagen for Her . But when I learned about Modere and the fact that it’s a liquid, I was intrigued because a liquid form is so convenient. I find that the powder makes things taste funny (and no matter what people say, it does taste funny), so if I use Collagen For Her, I typically put it in a smoothie. But, let’s say I’m not making a smoothie. That’s when I really like Modere as a liquid collagen option.

I’ve been getting a number of questions about Modere on Instagram (where it’s quite trendy), so I ordered some to try it for myself.

(You can read my review of Collagen for Her in this post. Note that while that post was sponsored, this post is NOT.)

In this post I’m going to share how Modere Collagen is different from other collagen on the market, what ingredients it uses, the benefits they claim and the ones I’ve noticed, and my honest thoughts since trying it for a few months.

Let’s jump in.

modere collagen travel

Modere Collagen Review

Modere is unique in the way they create their collagen. They state that most collagen molecules are naturally very large in our bodies, which makes them very hard to absorb and utilize. That’s why they use a unique science to create a collagen molecule that’s small enough for our bodies to digest called BioCell. I think this is a particularly interesting argument for using a liquid collagen vs. a powdered form. I don’t know enough about the science to really dig into it and evaluate the claims, but it certainly makes sense that it’s not enough to just ingest something. It needs to be absorbed into the body to get the most benefit. Bioavailability of a supplement can be just as important than what’s on a nutrition label.

So, with that goal in mind, Modere created a highly bioavailable liquid form of sternal cartilage that is a matrix of collagen, hyaluronic acid and chondroitin. It is derived from humanely-treated chickens raised without GMOs, antibiotics and hormones on some of the world’s most reputable and regulated farms located in the US and Europe. Their products are manufactured in the United States and it’s actually headquartered in my home state, Utah, in a town where I worked during college. I always have a soft spot for Utah-based companies.

Modere Liquid collagen is a combination of Type II collagen, hyaluronic acid, and a small amount of chondroitin that work together to enhance absorption and utilization. And it works because it mirrors the composition of our body’s own articular cartilage.

Ingredients

The below list is slightly long, but it can be helpful to see everything at a glance since the liquid collagen has more ingredients than powdered forms. What I DON’T like is that all that fruit is NOT organic. More on that below.

  • Apple fruit juice concentrate – Supports antioxidant capacity. Made from apple (Malus domestica).
  • Grape juice concentrate (fruit) – Supports antioxidant capacity. Made from grape (Vitis vinifera).
  • Liquid BioCell® – Supports joint mobility and lubrication, and skin hydration. Hydrolyzed collagen type II peptides, chondroitin sulfate and hyaluronic acid made from chicken cartilage.
  • Strawberry fruit juice concentrate – Supports antioxidant capacity. Made from strawberry (Fragaria ananassa).
  • Mangosteen fruit – Supports antioxidant capacity. Made from mangosteen fruit (Garcinia mangostana).
  • Cranberry fruit juice concentrate – Supports antioxidant capacity. Made from ripe cranberry (Vaccinium macrocarpon).
  • Blueberry fruit juice concentrate- Supports antioxidant capacity. Made from blueberry (Vaccinium angustifolium).
  • Jujube fruit – Supports antioxidant capacity. Made from jujube fruit (Ziziphis jujuba).
  • Acai berry extract – Supports antioxidant capacity. Made from acai berry (Euterpe oleracea).
  • Wolfberry fruit extract – Supports antioxidant capacity. Made from wolfberry (aka – goji) fruit (Lycium barbarum).
  • Pomegranate fruit juice concentrate – Supports antioxidant capacity. Made from pomegranate (Punica granatum).
  • Noni fruit – Supports antioxidant capacity. Made from noni fruit (Morinda citrifolia).
  • Maqui berry – Supports antioxidant capacity. Made from macqui berry (Aristotelia chilensis).
  • Nopal leaf extract – Supports antioxidant capacity. Made from prickly pear cactus (Opuntia ficus-indica).
  • Resveratrol – Supports antioxidant capacity, cardiovascular health and healthy aging. Made from Japanese knotweed root.
  • Purified water – This is an absorption agent. Purified by reverse osmosis and deionization.
  • Citric acid – Provides acidity regulator to preserve freshness. Made from the fermentation of sugar.
  • Fruit and vegetable juice – Provides color. Made from carrot (Daucus carota sativa) and blueberry (Vaccinium angustifolium).
  • Ascorbic acid – Preserves freshness. Form of vitamin C made by fermentation.
  • Pectin – Thickens and stabilizes. Made from citrus peel.
  • Potassium sorbate – Preserves freshness. Salt of sorbic acid made from synthetic sources.
  • Natural flavors – Provides mixed berry flavor. Made from natural sources.
  • Sodium citrate – Preserves freshness. Salt of citric acid made from synthetic sources.
  • Xanthan gum – Thickener and stabilizer. Made from fermentation of carbohydrates.
  • Rebaudioside A – Sweetener. Made from stevia leaf (Stevia rebaudiana).

Modere Collagen Benefits

It’s important to note that these benefits have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and they list the typical disclaimer on their website, i.e.“This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.” But I have noticed many of these myself as I’ve been taking Modere Collagen. People typically notice a difference between 30-60 days of consistent usage.

Improved joint mobility and lubrication

I would LOVE to see a marked improvement in this since my ankles and knees are SO achy and crunch and pop and I’m not even 40. I plan to the try the Sport Collagen to see if it helps with that.

Reduced joint discomfort

Promotes healthy cartilage and connective tissue, improved muscle tone, reduced wrinkles, increases skin’s collagen content.

This helps with visible signs of aging.

Improves skin’s hydration, firmness and elasticity

This is one of my biggest goals and I do feel like my elasticity has improved since taking the Skin collagen regularly.

Reduces hyaluronidase

Hyaluronidase is an enzyme that can make your skin age.

Promotes healthy hair, nails, gums and eyes

Supports cardiovascular health, boosts vitality.

What does that even mean? haha.

Modere Biocell Product Line

Modere makes four different liquid biocell collagen products. All with slightly different goals, as outlined below.

Modere has done studies in controlled clinical environments to show that the body readily recognizes and accepts all types of Liquid BioCell. Their studies actually compared collagen and hyaluronic acid levels in the skin and in the blood of participants at weekly intervals. They saw measured increases in collagen and hyaluronic acid among study participants, indicating that Modere Liquid Biocell collagen is effectively absorbed into the bloodstream and is not broken down in the digestive system the same way as typical collagen proteins. ( Source )

All of their liquid collagens should be taken as one tablespoon, twice daily. I typically take one in the morning and one at night.

Liquid BioCell Skin

BioCell Skin contains the Modere BioCell blend and then 18 fruit and vegetable concentrates. It’s essentially superfood juices, which are full of antioxidants. There’s no way to tell just how much of each of the 18 fruits and veggie concentrates are included, however. A study that was completed in 2004 found that these concentrates increased the antioxidants in the blood, which is what improved skin health (reduced skin aging by reducing the damage from free radicals, which speeds up aging).

Modere Liquid Collagen Review

Liquid BioCell Life

Liquid BioCell Life is pretty similar to the Skin version, but it contains resveratrol, an antioxidant that may play a role in the prevention of chronic diseases, and Wolfberry, which has similar benefits as well. This is the one that I’ve tried and I do like the taste!

Liquid BioCell Pure

Liquid BioCell Pure is simply the BioCell blend of collagen and hyaluronic acid. It does not contain any sugar or calories, so this is a great option if you want to ONLY get the collagen and HA. This is the best option if you’re taking collagen for your skin or joint health.

Modere Collagen Pure

Liquid BioCell Sport

Liquid BioCell Sport is very similar to the Skin and Life options. It contains BioCell and a variety of fruit and vegetable concentrates, but it also has an amino acid blend of branched-chain amino acids (leucine, isoleucine, valine) and L-carnitine. These help improve exercise performance and increase muscle strength. None of the other BioCell options contain protein, but this does contain 1 gram. This product is also NSF certified, so athletes can take it since it fuels physical and mental performance.

This is the one I want to try next since my ankles really bother me as I’ve started aging (almost 40) and I’m hoping this will improve some of my joint issues.

Modere Collagen Sport

My Review of Modere Collagen

Okay now that you know all of the details, let’s get into my personal thoughts.

Tastes good!

Like I mentioned above, powdered collagen does taste funny, no matter what people say, and the only way not to taste it is to bury it in a smoothie. I cannot take it in coffee. I don’t find that the Modere BioCell Collagen tastes bad at all; in fact, I like it. But, I haven’t tried all the different types they sell (only Skin and Life), so maybe the Pure or Sport is nasty. (If you’ve tried others, let me know!)

Different types of collagen for different goals

I love that there are options. If you prefer to skip on the fruits and veggies, the BioCell Pure is a perfect option. I prefer to have all of the superfoods in my collagen, and I have that option with the Skin or Life Biocell.

Less joint pain

I have noticed that my ankles and wrists (which are VERY prone to a deep ache) don’t hurt as much since regularly taking collagen. They do say it improves joint health. Placebo effect? Maybe. Worth it? Yes.

LONG lashes

My lashes and nails grow so much faster when I’m regularly taking collagen! This took a few months to notice but it definitely is noticeable if you stick with it. When I stopped taking it, I noticed a distinct difference.

It’s VERY expensive collagen, especially considering I feel like I’m paying for juice. Superfood juice, yes, but still juice. They do have referral codes that customers can share with their friends and this link should save you $10 . Every bit counts, right?

There ARE a few ways to save however.

  • You can join Modere as a Subscribe & Save member (there’s an option at checkout). Once you select that, you get 5-15% off monthly orders and off any a la carte orders. On your second shipment, you’ll receive $20 in product credit and on your third shipment, Modere will MATCH your savings (i.e. if you are at the 10% off tier, your third shipment will be 20% off). You get a text message each month before it ships and it’s super easy to cancel.
  • Additionally, each customer receives their own referral code, GIVE $10, get $10 in product credit for future purchases.

Not organic

Considering how many fruits and veggie concentrates are added, I feel like they should be organic, especially since non-organic berries have some of the highest levels of pest control spray.

Bottom Line

Overall, I really like Modere Collagen . I use it a few times per week, when I’m not having a smoothie (I use Collagen for Her with I have smoothies since you can’t taste it) and when I run out of Collagen for Her, I’ll probably switch to this exclusively. I wish Modere’s wasn’t so expensive. But that’s the case with so many things where you’re paying for convenience!

I tried a few other items from Modere when I ordered the BioCell. This may sound weird, but I am truly OBSESSED with the toothpaste. I also tried the TRIM that’s supposed to inhibit fat storage, reduce fat cell formation (help with weight loss), improve muscle tone and restore youthful skin, but no luck with that. It gave me diarrhea (sorry, I know that’s TMI, but how’s that for side effects!).

If you decide to place an order with collagen, below are other things I like as well as a few things I just ordered. One to note is that while they DO have a generous return policy (full refund), it’s kind of a pain. I had to get on the phone with them vs. just process it online. So keep that in mind.

liquid collagen bottles

A few other Modere products I love:

Toothpaste – I didn’t know I could be THAT obsessed with toothpaste. My teeth feel like I just had professional cleaning and it’s free of crap that’s in most commercial toothpaste! I love the mouthwash too!

Digestive Enzymes – filled with lots of good things to help with upset stomachs after an occasionally heavy meal.

Phytos – these are powdered greens, fruits and superfoods. I ordered them to see how they compared to Balance of Nature , which I’ve used for 20+ years. I’ll do a full review soon, but in short, I actually like them BETTER, which is did NOT expect.

Sunless tanning foam – I haven’t used a self tanner since middle school and was still scared 25+ years later since it was so streaky and smelled so bad, ha! I was BLOWN away by how easy this is to apply (the mitt is fantastic) and how natural it looks. I’ve gotten so many comments about how tan I am and people ask if I’m hitting the pool a lot. No, no I am not. 🙂

I have all of these items and the Skin Collagen on Subscribe & Save so I save money and if I’m not out of anything when it comes time to ship, I just remove whatever I don’t need. (You get texts before your order ships.)

This link has all my favorite products if you want to add them all to your cart and it will also let you just delete what you don’t want. That link should also give you $10 off – it’s not much but better than nothing!

Modere phytos

Alright, that’s it! I hope this is helpful. If you have questions, let me know and I’ll do my best to help answer!

Thanks for this post. One questions, once you open Modere bottle do we need to store it in a refrigerator or can leave it outside?, and should we be finishing it within 7 days or 30 days once the bottle is opened? Would be good to know.

Put it in the fridge once it’s open! It should be used within 30 days once open!

Hi Terilyn… i am interested in the liquid collagen, but I’m not sure which type I need. Is the only difference in the Skin and Life the addition of Resveratrol? Also is it okay to take Trim when I’m taking the liquid? Thank you.

About Modere which I have just recently been reading about, if you join, must you place an order every month?

Hi! You can set up monthly shipments to save money or you can place one time orders! I’ve done both and when I do the monthly shipments, I get an email for a heads up so I can tweak the order or cancel if I want!

Do you know a way to avoid the grainy residue when you reach the bottom of the bottle? I shake it up before every dose but still end up with several tablespoonfuls of unpleasant grit at the end of a bottle. Thanks for the thorough review, I’ve been using this for a while and learned alot!

So glad to hear this was helpful! Ugh, I know, I get the residue too. I shake it as well but it still seems to happen. When I get near the bottom, I just mix my collagen in with a smoothie so I don’t notice it!

Hi I would like to know how much it costs and if it can be shipped to Greece. Thank you!

Do you still prefer the Modere collagen? Or have you went back to Collagen for Her?

I use Modere when I want to use a liquid. If I want a powder (for adding to smoothies, for example), I use this one from Perfect Supplements. I haven’t used Collagen for Her in a while since I found the Perfect Supplements one!

I add a little water when the collagen has some sediment in the bottom. This works well. I have taken Skin for a couple of years. I prefer the taste of Skin compared to the others. I have taken Trim along with the Biocell Collagen at the same time. It does not cause me to have digestive issues even though I am prone to IBS.

A CLOSER LOOK AT COLLAGEN

The truth behind the collagen food supplement everyone is talking about.

Is there really any difference between the countless collagen products on the market? That depends on who you ask. With so much conflicting information from supplement companies, social media, and high-profile personalities, it’s getting harder and harder to know what to believe. Read on to learn the surprising, science-backed truth that even most industry experts don’t know.

COLLAGEN: THE BASICS

Collagen is a protein that provides structure to cells and can be found in nearly every part of the human body, especially in healthy skin, and connective tissue. Your body starts to decrease collagen production in your 20s. In fact, you lose about 1% of your collagen every year, so by age 50 you have nearly 30% less collagen than you did at age 20, and almost 50% less collagen by the time you’re 70.

modere collagen travel

Collagen loss is the number one internal factor that contributes to noticeable signs of ageing. Once it begins to break down, the intracellular matrix loses its rigidity and structural support, leading to the appearance of sagging skin and wrinkles.

COLLAGEN INGREDIENTS ARE NOT CREATED EQUAL

Collagen as a nutritional ingredient can be classified into one of several groups depending on its type, source, and manufacturing processes. The most popular varieties of collagen include:

TYPE I: Hydrolyzed — Derived from porcine skin, bovine hide, eggshell membrane, or fish, this collagen type is commonly sold as bone broth or collagen powder.

TYPE II: Undenatured, unhydrolyzed collagen — Mostly derived from chickens.

TYPE III: Hydrolyzed — Often derived from bovine sources.

Vegan collagen: A pending scientific development in attempts to meet consumer demand, using genetically modified yeast and bacteria.

NOTE: Vegan collagen is not yet commercially available at the time of this publication. Products that are misleadingly labeled as vegan collagen typically contain no collagen at all but instead are formulated with common collagen-boosting ingredients such as vitamin C to capitalize on consumer demand.

If you’ve ever heard that ingestible collagen doesn’t provide any benefits, that’s partly true. In their natural state, collagen molecules are too large to be effectively absorbed by the body and are simply digested as proteins in the digestive system.

Hydrolysis is a process that breaks down these large collagen molecules for improved efficacy, so most supplements use hydrolyzed collagen. However, the method of hydrolyzation and the type and source of collagen used can yield widely varying results in the quality and effectiveness of the end product. What’s more, there’s also a very different kind of collagen that goes beyond the usual categories named above.

LIQUID BIOCELL® IS A NEW GENERATION OF COLLAGEN

Liquid BioCell® is a unique type II collagen that goes beyond the typical hydrolyzed bovine or marine collagen found in most formulas. This award-winning, single-source matrix has been shown to restore youthful skin.

Backed by multi-patented Collagen/HA Matrix™ Technology, this proprietary ingredient is naturally derived from chicken sternal cartilage and hydrolyzed using a patented Bio-Optimized™ manufacturing process to achieve an ideal macromolecule.

The result is a naturally enhanced bioavailability. Bioavailability has a direct bearing on how beneficial a supplement is because it measures how efficiently a substance enters a body’s circulatory system. Ingesting a nutrient is not enough; it must be absorbed to derive any benefit, so the bioavailability of a supplement can be just as important as, if not more so than, what its supplement facts panel may claim.

SCIENTIFIC STUDIES PROVIDE RESULTS YOU CAN TRUST

As the gold standard for supplemental collagen since its launch, Liquid BioCell® has inspired ground-breaking trends that have since been attempted by other brands, like a collagen matrix ingredient. Even so, Liquid BioCell® still stands alone in delivering all of these scientifically demonstrated benefits, backed by multiple scientific studies for results you can see and feel:

LIQUID BIOCELL® RESTORES YOUTHFUL SKIN, INCREASING COLLAGEN AND HA

  • Improves skin’s hydration, firmness, and elasticity
  • Increases skin’s collagen content
  • Reduces the appearance of deep wrinkles and lines
  • Reduces hyaluronidase, the enzyme that causes skin aging

In scientific studies, hyaluronic acid levels increased by 6000% over 28 days reducing wrinkles from the inside out.

modere collagen travel

In scientific studies, dryness was reduced by 76% without the use of a topical moisturizer at 12 weeks.

modere collagen travel

What’s more, Liquid BioCell® is scientifically shown to reduce hyaluronate, an enzyme that significantly contributes to skin ageing.

modere collagen travel

In fact, the Bio-Optimized™ collagen in Liquid BioCell® may even directly activate chondrocytes (cartilage cells) to stimulate the body to produce its own new collagen.

LIQUID BIOCELL® IS BACKED BY MULTIPLE PATENTS & AWARDS

4. Have any studies on Liquid BioCell® been published in medical journals?

Although selected studies on our ingredient have been published in peer-reviewed journals, Modere opts to strictly limit the publication of studies on Liquid BioCell in scientific journals in order to protect proprietary data.

5. Where can I find trustworthy information about collagen?

Collagen is a buzzword right now, not only among social media influencers and beauty bloggers but in the medical community as well. Unfortunately, many so-called “experts” are inadvertently spreading misinformation about collagen supplementation. Popular media figures and even physicians who make generalizations about unproven or false claims by manufacturers are often not educated on the latest research. Attempts to discredit collagen supplements do not take into account our scientific studies, which show that the unique Collagen/HA Matrix™ in Liquid BioCell® works very differently than typical hydrolyzed collagen.

When shopping for a collagen supplement, look for one that is backed by scientific research. Make sure that the research cited includes direct references to the specific ingredient or product you’re considering.

6. Is it safe to take multiple collagen products at the same time?

While we can’t speak for other collagen brands, Liquid BioCell® has been demonstrated to be well-tolerated at doses up to 30 times the recommended daily dosage of two tablespoons (30 ml) per day, according to toxicology studies. The recommended serving size is based on the dose determined to deliver the studied benefits.

Modere products featuring Liquid BioCell® include our Trim product line.

For a full daily serving when taking Liquid BioCell® alongside other Modere collagen products, you may mix and match your custom program based on the following recommended serving sizes:

RECOMMENDED SERVING SIZE  TOTAL DAILY DOSE EQUIVALENT

1 Tbsp Liquid BioCell® (all formulas)         = 1/2 daily dose

1 Tbsp Trim (all flavors) = 1/2 daily dose

Modere Collagen School: What is Collagen & Why Does it Matter?

As you get older, you’re likely to notice visible signs of aging, especially in your skin and joints. Maybe playing your favorite sport isn’t as comfortable as it used to be or you’re seeing more fine lines and wrinkles in the mirror. While genetics, years of physical activity and lifestyle all play key roles in how and when signs of aging begin to show up, there is one crucial protein that affects everyone’s aging process: collagen.

Often referred to as the “fountain of youth,” or “holy grail of anti-aging,” collagen is a naturally occurring protein that not only supports the structure of your body but also contributes to your overall wellbeing. In this article, we will explore what collagen is, its importance to the human body and how it influences the aging process.

Understanding Collagen: The Basics

Collagen is the most abundant protein in the human body, making up around 30% of your total protein content. It provides structure to cells, acting as the building blocks for your skin, bones, tendons, ligaments and other connective tissues. Essentially, collagen provides strength, flexibility and resilience to these structures, ensuring their optimal functioning.

Understanding Collagen: Types of Collagens

There are several types of collagens found in the human body, but the majority are classified into three main types: Type I, Type II and Type III. Each type has a distinct role in maintaining the health and optimal function of specific tissues.

  • TYPE I : Abundant in your bones and tendons, providing strength and elasticity.
  • TYPE II : Predominantly found in cartilage, providing cushioning and support to joints.
  • TYPE III : Present in the blood vessels and organs, contributing to their structural integrity.

When derived from external sources as a nutritional ingredient for collagen supplements, the key forms of commercially available collagen are classified by source and manufacturing process as follows:

  • TYPE I:  Hydrolyzed — Derived from porcine skin, bovine hide, eggshell membrane or fish, this collagen type is commonly sold as bone broth or collagen powder.
  • TYPE II:  Undenatured, unhydrolyzed collagen — Mostly derived from chickens.
  • TYPE III:  Hydrolyzed — Often derived from bovine sources.
  • Vegan “collagen”:  Genetically modified yeast and bacteria. Vegan “collagen” typically contains no collagen at all, but instead is formulated with collagen-boosting ingredients like vitamin C.
  • Liquid BioCell®: A new generation of collagen, Liquid BioCell is a unique single-source matrix of hydrolyzed type II collagen + hyaluronic acid + chondroitin sulfate derived from chicken sternal cartilage in concentrations that mirror human articular cartilage concentrations.

The Importance of Collagen in Aging

As you age, your body’s production of collagen naturally declines, leading to visible signs of aging. This decline in collagen synthesis is influenced by various factors such as genetics, sun exposure, poor diet and environmental stressors, but eventually happens to everyone. What many people don’t realize is that collagen loss can start as early as your 20s. What’s more, collagen and the hormone estrogen are intrinsically linked, so when estrogen levels drastically drop during menopause, so does collagen.

Graph illustrating how collagen and hyaluronic acid levels decrease with age.

Here’s where collagen loss is most noticeable:

Skin Health

Collagen plays a vital role in maintaining the youthful appearance of your skin. It provides structure and elasticity, reducing the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines and sagging. Collagen levels directly impact your skin’s ability to retain its natural moisture barrier.

Joint Health

Collagen is a key component of cartilage, the cushioning material that covers your joints. It helps maintain joint flexibility and promotes comfortable joints to help you stay active.

Bone Strength

Collagen is responsible for the structural integrity of your bones, working in conjunction with minerals like calcium and phosphorus. Collagen levels can affect bone density and strength and may especially be essential for women in menopause and post-menopause.

Hair, Nails, Gums & Eyes

Collagen supports connective tissues that affect the healthy appearance of hair, nails and cuticles, your gums, and the fluid around your eyes. As collagen levels decline, it’s common to notice dry hair and hair breakage, as well as dry or brittle nails.

Ways to Support Collagen Production

While the natural decline of collagen cannot be completely prevented, there are steps you can take to support its production and change the way you age:

  • Balanced Diet : Consuming a diet rich in protein, vitamin C and antioxidants helps promote collagen synthesis. Foods like lean meats, fish, fruits, vegetables and nuts can be beneficial.
  • Sun Protection : Prolonged sun exposure can damage collagen fibers. Protecting your skin from harmful UV rays by wearing sunscreen, hats and seeking shade can minimize collagen breakdown.
  • Lifestyle Choices : Avoiding smoking and excessive alcohol consumption can help preserve collagen levels. Smoking accelerates collagen loss, while excessive alcohol can inhibit collagen production.
  • Collagen Supplements : Collagen supplementation can help counteract the noticeable effects of collagen loss. However, not all collagen supplements deliver the benefits they may claim, so it’s important to seek out science-backed, studied formulas .

How to Choose a Collagen Supplement

If you’ve ever heard that ingestible collagen doesn’t provide any benefits, that’s partly true.  In their natural state, collagen molecules are too large to be effectively absorbed by the body and are simply digested as proteins in the digestive system.

Hydrolysis is a process that breaks down these large collagen molecules for improved efficacy, so most supplements use hydrolyzed collagen. However, the method of hydrolyzation and the type and source of collagen used can yield widely varying results in the quality and effectiveness of the end product.

Formulated with multi-patented Collagen/HA Matrix® Technology, award-winning Liquid BioCell collagen is hydrolyzed using a patented Bio-Optimized™ manufacturing process to achieve an ideal micromolecule. The result is naturally enhanced bioavailability. Bioavailability has a direct bearing on how beneficial a supplement is because it measures how efficiently a substance enters a body’s circulatory system. That’s why merely ingesting a nutrient is not enough; it must be absorbed to derive any nutritional benefit.*

Molecule

Liquid BioCell consists of type II hydrolyzed collagen, a major component of healthy joints, youthful skin and connective tissue; hyaluronic acid (HA) essential to skin hydration, tissue maintenance and a youthful appearance; and chondroitin sulfate to support joint flexibility and lubrication.*

Regardless of which collagen supplement you choose, make sure it’s backed by scientific research. The independent research on Liquid BioCell is conducted via multiple double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled human clinical trials and is third-party validated. These criteria are universally considered the highest standard for clinical studies in the scientific community.

Collagen is a fundamental protein that plays a crucial role in maintaining the youthfulness and vitality of your body. While aging is inevitable, understanding the significance of collagen and implementing strategies to support its production can help slow down the visible signs of aging. By nurturing your collagen levels through proper nutrition, sun protection, healthy lifestyle choices and evidence-backed collagen supplements , you can empower yourself to change the way you age.*

I share my liquid collagen with y’all all. the. time . Ha! I’ve been so happy with my results (shown below) and y’all have been asking me all about it. One of the questions I get asked about the most is what are the differences between the different types of liquid collagen?  I’m here to demystify liquid collagen and help you decide which formula is right for you!

Did you know that liquid collagen is absorbed by our bodies 98% better than any other form of collagen (powder, pill, or gummy)? It’s no wonder this stuff has been working so well for me! While each of these formulas is slightly different, they all contain the same about of collagen!

Modere Liquid Collagen Review by Alabama Mommy + Fashion blogger, Heather Brown // My Life Well Loved

Overall, liquid collagen promotes healthy younger-looking skin, healthy hair, and nails, as well as active joints and healthy aging. It has done wonders for my postpartum hair after my second pregnancy. See the difference just one month of liquid collagen made for me!

Now, let’s find the right liquid collagen formula for you!

Modere Liquid Collagen Review by Alabama Mommy + Fashion blogger, Heather Brown // My Life Well Loved

Types Of Modere Liquid Collagen:

Modere Liquid Collagen Review by Alabama Mommy + Fashion blogger, Heather Brown // My Life Well Loved

#1 – Liquid BioCell Pure // Sugar-free, less than 5 calories, 0 carbs. Keto friendly.

(This is the kind I usually take! I have also taken LIFE & tried Eric’s SPORT)

This specialized formula of liquid collagen:

  • Improves joint mobility and lubrication
  • Reduces joint discomfort
  • Promotes healthy cartilage and connective tissue
  • Decreases skin dryness
  • Improves skin’s hydration, firmness, and elasticity
  • Increases skin’s collagen content
  • Reduces hyaluronidase, the enzyme that can make your skin age
  • It is DIFFERENT because it doesn’t have the added fruit juices/antioxidants that the LIFE has which allows it to be less carbs/cals/sugars.

Modere Liquid Collagen Review by Alabama Mommy + Fashion blogger, Heather Brown // My Life Well Loved

#2 – Liquid BioCell Life // A great option if you’re not on a Keto or FASTer Way To Fat Loss diet or worried about the extra carbs. Gluten free. This is the product I started with and I recommend most people start with if they ask!

(I’ve tried this formula and it has a very fruity flavor, it tastes more berry like to me than the Pure which is a milder flavor!)

  • THE OG! Improves joint mobility and lubrication
  • Has the added benefits of 13 potent, phytonutrient-rich superfoods and resveratrol, which are infused into a unique liquid delivery system that provides fast absorption and results.

Modere Liquid Collagen Review by Alabama Mommy + Fashion blogger, Heather Brown // My Life Well Loved

#3 – Liquid BioCell Sport // A great option for men or anyone who is very active and athletic. Includes BCAA’s as well.

(Eric took this kind first and now has switched to LIFE! I don’t think it tastes as good as Life or Pure.)

  • Includes BCAA’s, which are essential amino acids that cannot be produced by your body and must be obtained through food. These help to build muscle, decrease muscle fatigue and alleviate muscle soreness
  • Fuels physical and mental performance
  • Promotes healthy tendons, joints, muscles, and ligaments

Touring the Top 10 Moscow Metro Stations

By Claudia Looi 2 Comments

Komsomolskaya metro station

Komsomolskaya metro station looks like a museum. It has vaulted ceilings and baroque decor.

Hidden underground, in the heart of Moscow, are historical and architectural treasures of Russia. These are Soviet-era creations – the metro stations of Moscow.

Our guide Maria introduced these elaborate metro stations as “the palaces for the people.” Built between 1937 and 1955, each station holds its own history and stories. Stalin had the idea of building beautiful underground spaces that the masses could enjoy. They would look like museums, art centers, concert halls, palaces and churches. Each would have a different theme. None would be alike.

The two-hour private tour was with a former Intourist tour guide named Maria. Maria lived in Moscow all her life and through the communist era of 60s to 90s. She has been a tour guide for more than 30 years. Being in her 60s, she moved rather quickly for her age. We traveled and crammed with Maria and other Muscovites on the metro to visit 10 different metro stations.

To Maria, every street, metro and building told a story. I couldn’t keep up with her stories. I don’t remember most of what she said because I was just thrilled being in Moscow.   Added to that, she spilled out so many Russian words and names, which to one who can’t read Cyrillic, sounded so foreign and could be easily forgotten.

The metro tour was the first part of our all day tour of Moscow with Maria. Here are the stations we visited:

1. Komsomolskaya Metro Station  is the most beautiful of them all. Painted yellow and decorated with chandeliers, gold leaves and semi precious stones, the station looks like a stately museum. And possibly decorated like a palace. I saw Komsomolskaya first, before the rest of the stations upon arrival in Moscow by train from St. Petersburg.

2. Revolution Square Metro Station (Ploshchad Revolyutsii) has marble arches and 72 bronze sculptures designed by Alexey Dushkin. The marble arches are flanked by the bronze sculptures. If you look closely you will see passersby touching the bronze dog's nose. Legend has it that good luck comes to those who touch the dog's nose.

It has a dome with patriotic slogans decorated with red stars representing the Soviet's World War II Hall of Fame. Kurskaya Metro Station is a must-visit station in Moscow.

europe shoulder season travel

Come summer, travel to Europe will be top of mind for plenty of Americans with vacation on the brain.

But can we afford it? Summers especially can be crowded, hot and packed with tourists driving up rates as locals flee for the countryside and beaches — not really the best time to be visiting.

Plus, this year, there’s an extra level of expense added, with the 2024 Olympics taking Paris for the months of July and August.

A tower in the city

And that won’t just impact Paris, but all the destinations like the French wine regions, the Cote d’Azur and even London and Brussels and Amsterdam — all easily accessible by rail and likely to receive plenty of extra visitors.

So you might still be going — but you might be going before or after the summer, this time around. And according to a new study , that’s totally fine.

For example, did you know that Paris can be a pretty good deal, as long as you’re not insisting on the peak travel periods?

The number crunchers at Radical Storage urge travelers not looking to go into heavy debt to select the shoulder season, when visitors can save a whopping average of 60.3% on their hotel stays, one of biggest budget busters on a Paris itinerary, where peak season nightly rates averaged $866.

Wait until shoulder season and see those same rates plummet to $344, the research revealed. That’s a discount of $522.

Shoulder seasons can vary by destination, but are by definition the times between peak and off-peak. And, most importantly, unlike during low season, the weather isn’t terrible. (If you’ve spent a winter in Paris, you know that’s an issue.)

A bridge over water with a building in the background in Budapest

“Shoulder season is the period before or after peak season but not yet the off-season. For example, many European destinations have a very busy summer (July/August) but May, June, September, and October may be considered shoulder season (it varies per destination), while January could be considered the off-season or low season,” the study stated.

“Visiting destinations in shoulder season usually means lower costs and lower crowds, while still keeping good enough weather for tourism.”

To find the best times to travel to Europe, the study pored over data from Google Flights and prices for thousands of hotels. Besides beaucoup bargain boltholes in Paris, they also found that flights to Budapest in the off-season sank to 56.6% of peak season highs, Thrillist reported .

And while Budapest had the best drop in prices, it was far from the best deal, overall — peak pricing for cities like Stockholm from the States averaged about $778, according to the study, and $537 during shoulder season — a drop of 30.9 percent.

As part of the study’s findings, the authors compiled a list of the best shoulder season month to visit a selection of cities around the world. Here are their picks for many of Europe’s most popular destinations.
