NEW JOURNEY MINISTRIES LGBTQ+ Welcoming and Affirming Ministry engaged in spreading the unconditional Love of God, by lifting a moral and prophetic voice of justice, equality and democracy for all. 

You can’t have a history, without evolution!  This history of our great nation has shown us that we become greater as we move forward and evolve.  Such is true for ministries.  We know things change, people change, circumstances change and evolution once again impacts history.  

At the same time we know that "God is the same yesterday, today and forever" and in 2007, there was a group of eight who were holding bible study in a home just outside Tampa, Florida.  The group would evolve into a ministry known as Prevailing Word Fellowship.  As the fellowship began to grow and additional space was needed, Prevailing Word joined with another local fellowship that was located in the historical Ybor City district of Tampa.  This led to the current name of New Journey Ministries, Inc.

In 1986 the Global Alliance of Affirming Apostolic Pentecostals, became one of the first welcoming and affirming, LGBTQ+ communities of faith to be recognized by the United States Federal Government and the Internal Revenue Service.

Over the past several years both ministries shared in part the same leadership and that leadership thought it prudent and wise for the two ministries to become one.  In 2015, after much prayer, thought and consideration, New Journey Ministries, Inc. and the Global Alliance of Affirming Apostolic Pentecostals, Inc. became one ministry. 

New Journey continues to serve communities across the country in the capacities of ministry covering, advocacy, equality, civic and social justice and more to those marginalized.  Our hope and prayer is always: we love you, we bless you, and we behold the Christ within you!

About Our History

New journey baptist church.

Under the leading and guiding of the Holy Spirit, Reverend James A. Jackson called a few family, friends, and former church members to explore establishing a new church within the local community of Stafford, Virginia. On April 21, 2007, fourteen (14) people responded to Reverend Jackson’s call and met at the Golden Corral Restaurant, located in Massaponax, Virginia.

Our mission here at New Journey Baptist Church is to provide an atmosphere of worship, friendship, and fellowship. We believe that the Holy Bible is the inspired, inerrant, Word of God. We endeavor to preach and teach the Gospel of Jesus Christ for the salvation of lost souls,

and the spiritual nurturing of the body of Christ. We also endeavor, according to the biblical mandate, to provide aid and support to those in need, both at home and abroad.

Journey Fellowship is a family friendly local church in Denton.  Each week it is our desire to see people encounter the wonderful hope of Jesus.  It is also our intention to make everyone feel at home and that’s why we believe that your first impression will be a warm one.  We invite you to come and attend a weekend service.  You will discover a group of people who truly desire to experience God and want to see Him use their lives for His purposes.

How should i dress.

Journey Fellowship is a “come as you are” church. Jeans and ties are equally welcomed.

What’s available for my kids?

We love kids!  Our nursery is safe and clean and is staffed by a loving group of ladies that will provide exceptional care for your “little ones.”  For elementary age kids, we have designed energetic and engaging worship experiences that will run concurrent with the adult worship service.  Check-in is required for all Go! Kids activities. Check-in and check-out for all ages takes place in our educational building. Look for the Go! Kids Check-in door.  There, parents fill out an information card for their child and receive a sticker that will help our Go! Kids team to communicate with you if needed during the worship experience.

What type of music will there be?

We see worship as the pathway into God’s presence.  Our worship team seeks to lead us down that pathway each week.  Contemporary worship is the norm for our weekend worship experiences.  There are times when timeless hymns are used to bridge the gap between the old and new.  For us, it isn’t as much about style as it is about heart.

What if I’d like to pray with someone?

There is almost always ministry time offered during or at the end of every worship experience.  Our leadership team is always available to pray with you.  You can also email personal prayer requests (cayli@churchonajourney.com) or simply fill out the “Prayer Request” section on the back of your Connection Card when you attend.

How long does the worship experience last?

Our worship experience will last about 1 hour & 30 minutes.

Will I be asked to give money?

Offerings are given as an act of worship for attendees who call Journey Fellowship their home.  We teach and believe in Biblical stewardship and tithing.  For new visitors, your presence is a gift to us. We want you to be blessed without feeling any obligation to give. However, you are more than welcome to worship the Lord through giving if you desire.
