Fist want to thank Associate Priya for helping and planning for entire Maldives trip. She helped us from very beginning to the last day until we board the return flight. The place visited - Kandima Maldives, which is a great escape destination from the Male City. The place was entirely a luxury destination and the experience was unmatchable. Had a memorable stay 😎 I suggest GT Holiday for all sort of vacation planning.

We went to Andaman Nicobar recently through GT holidays. It was one of the splendid experience we ever had. We were guided in a well good manner to reach our hotels and tourist spots that we didn't feel like away from home. We had the best journey also by cruise to islands. Overall we enjoyed thoroughly. Thank you GT holidays.
We planned a trip to andamons and GT Holidays were the best who made the holidays far better than we expected. we were given enough care and always looked after our needs .The hotels and restaurant they arranged was quite good.especially the food, they even gave care to vegans. The best part is that we never felt that we were wasting any time everything was well planned and scheduled.Andamon is also the best place to explore ❤️

God's Own Country Kerala
Our tour was almost entirely flawless from start to finish. We did not have to think of any details that often detract from enjoying the trip. It was the most organized yet flexible travel experiences I've had. Our driver Shubam, was a delight to be around. Tour company, guides, driver went above an beyond to make our trip enjoyable and memorable. Kerala is Beautiful and the food was amazing. I highly recommend this tour company and will be booking another trip with them in future.
Best of Southern India

South India Revealed
Another winner for me on this Intrepid tour. It's a completely different vibe from the hustle and bustle of the North and the majestic wonder of the forts and palaces. The South is about relaxing but there is plenty to see by way of history and culture. Trust me the South has much to offer outside of its beach scene, there is plenty of rich culture and history to explore, the Ghandi memorial museum in Mysore is a must see and the ruins of Hampi are too breathtaking to explain here. The temples are a wonder to see in Kerala and Mysore - full of colour and lights, if you go try and see if you can experience it during a festival to really see the community come alive (be warned though this is also an extremely busy time to go - October to March). The other extreme beauty comes from the natural beaches in Varkala, the backwaters of Kerala and the fun chill out scene of Goa. It's an eclectic mix across the whole of india, but you tend to hear of the Northern regions more. Our guide Mohsin Ali was brilliant. Patient, calm an embodiment of the soothing south.
Kerala: Beaches & Backwaters
What I was looking for: - do more cultural activities than when travelling solo (I usually do none) - stay with a chill group of people for a week - see Kerala that I heard so much about My experience: - this tour has limited activities. It’s in the itinerary. I booked the only one that matches my dates without checking too much… - the group was pretty cool. The restaurants / bars we were recommended were bad though. - I got to see Kerala. The walk through the rice fields was amazing Overall, I’d say go for it if you’re not comfortable travelling on your own. The 2 days in the backwaters were worth going on a tour. The beach is better done solo travelling / resort / hostel.
Quick Cochin Munnar Thekkady Alleppy Kovalam 8 Days Tour
When I booked the 8 day tour of Quick Cochin Munnar Thekkady Alleppy Kovalam and I am so glad I did. The trip was well organised and I was able to see some amazing sights in Kerala. The vehicle provided was clean and comfortable and our driver was very knowledgeable and friendly. We visited a number of places during the tour including Cochin, Munnar, Thekkady, Alleppy and Kovalam. Each of these places had something unique to offer and I really enjoyed seeing the different cultures and landscapes. The accommodation was good and the food was delicious. The tour guide was helpful and knowledgeable and always answered all our questions. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for a great way to explore Kerala.
Exotic Kerala Tour (Coconut Holiday Of India)
Overall you provided good transport & Hotels . Excellent guides at Munnar Tea Plantations and other sites. Our only disappointed was a non English speaking driver who couldn’t arrange tea or toilet breaks unless we requested , However didn’t spoil a fantastic experience, thank you

We had a wonderful time on this tour. If this is your first trip to India, I highly recommend booking a tour through Swastik India.

Incredible South India

if iam traviling to India again, i would definitely check their tour again, some of the places that we had to visit were not available or did not meet the standards for many reasons, Manohar was responsive and did his best to provide an alternative, he is flexible and a listener and willing to give his best so you can enjoy the Tour.

Popular south india tour packages, south india tour packages faqs.
Q. What are the places to be visited on a South India tour? A. When sorting through South India packages, make sure your research is complete and you have shortlisted some of its most stunning destinations. A stay in Karnataka can include a couple of nights in Bangalore, its green, bustling capital before proceeding to Coorg for a few days at a coffee estate. On your return you can stay a night or two in Mysore. Another idea is to proceed to Wayanad from Coorg before returning to Bangalore or continuing further into Kerala. You can club a Tamil Nadu and Kerala visit, by arriving in Chennai and continuing to Pondicherry and then to Madurai. Stay for a couple of days in Madurai to see its iconic temples including the Meenakshi Amman Temple and keep a day aside for Rameswaram known for the Ramanathaswamy Temple and the frontier town of Dhanushkodi. From Madurai you can proceed to Periyar National Park in Kerala, then travel further uphill to Munnar. From Munnar you can drive down to Kochi, then to Alleppey, Kollam on a houseboat before continuing to Kovalam. Spend a day in Trivandrum, see its temples and museums and take a flight out of there. Q. What are the most famous beaches in South India? A. Prior to closing one of the South India tour packages, be sure that it incorporates some of the best beaches in the region. A beach holiday in South India is incomplete if it does not involve a stay in the erstwhile French town of Pondicherry. Pondicherry’s Promenade Beach although rocky has an aura of its own and is also where the whole town meets in the evenings when the thoroughfare is closed to traffic and one can stroll on it, eat an ice-cream and watch a gorgeous sunset. Auroville Beach and Paradise Beach are its other pristine beaches perfect for lazing around or wave surfing. Kovalam Beach in Kerala is among its most famous beaches. The rocky promontory with its lighthouse lends it a picture-postcard quality. Visit Mahabalipuram for the shore temples from the Pallava dynasty. The rock-cut shore temples are iconic to Mahabalipuram and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Kanyakumari Beach is another significant beach you should round up on your South India tour. It is where the waters of the three oceans - Arabian Sea, Bay of Bengal and Indian Ocean - that make up the Indian peninsula merge. There are boats leaving from it to the nearby Vivekananda Rock Memorial. The beach is bustling with souvenir shops and little eateries and houses the temple dedicated to the deity after which it is named, Kumari Amman. Q. What are the popular hill stations in South India? A. If you are going through South India holiday packages with the idea of rounding up some of its serene hill stations, you need to make sure it incorporates the below mentioned destinations. Tamil Nadu has its share of some very atmospheric hill stations such as Kodaikanal, Conoor and Ooty with the British-built Nilgiri Mountain Railway ascending the hills and passing through tunnels, offering you a ride you would remember for time to come. In Kerala you can visit Wayanad and Munnar and enjoy a breathtaking tea garden stay. Karnataka’s most popular hill retreat is Coorg which is home to its tallest peak Tadiandamole and a stay amid a coffee and spice estate. Among other popular hill stations across South India, you can travel to Yercaud, Yelagiri and Valparai in Tamil Nadu, Thekkady, Athirapally, Ponmudi in Kerala, Chikmagalur, Sakleshpur in Karnataka, Araku Valley, Horsley Hills, Tirumala that houses the iconic Tirumala Balaji Temple in Andhra Pradesh. Q. Which is the nearest airport to Hampi? A. To reach Hampi by air, you need to take a flight to Belgaum airport, which is located 270 km away and it takes about 6 hours drive. Belgaum is served by frequent flight connectivity from Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru and Jabalpur airports. The peak season is when the weather is slightly cooler and dry from December through February. If you are looking for Ayurveda treatments, monsoon is the best time to receive the therapeutic treatments. The cool, moist and crisp atmosphere helps the body open up its pores and, making it receptive to herbal oils and therapies. The rainy season is also an excellent time to find good hotel deals from May to September. Also, plan your trip when the state celebrates its festivals, June-September for snake boat races, the state festival Onam between August to September, and elephant festivals ranging from January to May. Q. Is there a dress code to enter temples in South India? A. Temples like Padmanabhaswamy Temple have a strict dress code where men need to wear mundu or dhoti and should not wear shirts of any kind. Women need to wear a sari, churidar or a South Indian half sari. Tirupati Temple advises wearing traditional clothes or proper attire. In most cases, men can enter with a pant-trouser outfit and just can just put a dhoti over their trousers where required for the visit. Children are also expected to wear fully-covered clothes. Q. Which are the popular honeymoon destinations in South India? A. The hills of Ooty and Kodaikanal in Tamil Nadu, the jungles of Coorg in Karnataka and Thekkady in Kerala, the backwaters of Alleppey and Kumarakom or the tea town of Munnar in Kerala are some of the most romantic destinations for a newly married couple. These are mostly hilly destinations with scenic beauty and peaceful surrounding providing the much-needed solitude. Q. Are cameras allowed inside the temples in South India? A. Most temples in South India don’t allow cameras inside its premise although cell phones are allowed. Lalbagh is one of the oldest botanical gardens in India and is also a major tourist attraction in South India. Located in South Bengaluru, the Lalbagh Botanical Garden is not only one of the largest botanical gardens in India, but also the first of its kind, with planned routes, glasshouses and ornamental flowers growing throughout the property. The garden itself is spread over an area of 240 acres and its construction was commissioned by the famous ruler Hyder Ali. It was finally completed by his son- Tipu Sultan- who designed the gardens keeping in mind the beautiful gardens of Sira in Tumkur District in Karnataka.Lalbagh is home to exotic flowers that were imported by the Sultan from countries like France, Persia, Arabia, Afghanistan, etc. Therefore, flowers that were previously never seen in India were first witnessed in this historical garden. Trees that were imported by Tipu Sultan from all over the world can still be found growing here.Apart from the exotic trees, visitors can also catch sight of some rare birds such as the Myna, pond heron, purple moorhen, parakeets, Brahminy kites, the common egret and much more. Apart from the stunning flora and fauna of the Lalbagh Botanical Garden, it has another striking attraction, which is the Lalbagh rock. This rock, which is said to be over 3000 years old, is one of the oldest rocks in the world and can be found in the center of the garden.
At the intersection of MG road and Residency road lies Brigade road which is considered a shopping paradise for the city dwellers. There is a long stretch of standalone shops, individual retailers, and outlet selling almost everything you need making it one the best Bangalore sightseeing. This commercial hubs houses myriads of global brand outlets as well and it has been a hub for celebrating New Year in the almost every year.
In the technology-driven, futuristic Silicon Valley of India, monuments of historical significance boasting of a glorious past are also abundant. The historical heritage of the city is so magnificent and eminent that it rises to prominence on its own. One such landmark is the Tudor style Bangalore Palace. The Palace is a perfect representation of the lavishness and splendour with which India's most resilient dynasties ruled. Famous for its opulent architecture and amusement activities, the Palace is visited by several visitors every day. The colossal Palace boasts of massive courtyards, bright interiors, kingly grounds, splendid spiral staircases, stately towers and a luscious garden in a proud display of posh regality.Anyone who admires classic architecture and artistry would be delighted to experience it first hand at this Palace. It also houses an amusement park in its enclave to the delight of many younger visitors. Having been a private residence to the Wodeyar family, Bangalore palace offers a linear perspective into the royal life of the forepassed era. It is plush with a vibrant and varied collection of ancient royal artefacts, paraphernalia, hunting trophies and family photos. The Palace houses some of the most famous paintings of the 19th Century, including the works of one of India's most celebrated artists Raja Ravi Verma. The Palace grounds very often become venues for concerts and festivals. World-renowned artists like Enrique and Guns N' Roses have graced the palace grounds with their talent and presence. The Palace hence combines the richness and luxury of royal history with the vivacious and exuberant demeanour of the youth. Bangalore Palace HistoryOriginally a property of Reverend J Garrett, the principal of a school in the cantonment town at that time, the area where the Palace is now located was purchased from him by the British Guardians of Maharaja Chamarajendra Wadiyar for 40,000 rupees. The construction of the palace began in the year 1874. Mr John Cameron of Lalbagh was assigned the task of landscaping Palace along with its surroundings. The complete construction of the palace was completed in the year, 1878.The Palace saw many additions and modifications in its architecture in subsequent years. Maharaja Jayachamaraja Wadiyar added a few portions like the twin external staircase, the platform for musicians etc. outside the Durbar Hall. In 1970, HH Jayachamarajendra Wodeyar transferred ownership of the property to two companies, Chamundi Hotels and Shree Venkateshwara Real Estate Enterprises. However, this transaction was later shown to be fraudulent. A legal battle followed between this deal and Jayachamarajendra's son, Srikanta Datta. The five sisters of Srikanta Datta are now in possession of sections of the 28 acres of the Palace. In the year 1990 Srikant Datta finally compromised with the Chamaraju group and got back his part of the property including the main Palace except for 45 acres that the Chamaraju group still retains. Architecture:The Palace showcases exquisite wooden interiors surrounded by pristine walls. The Palace is enclosed within beautiful gardens. The architecture is a medley of Tudor style and Scottish style and has gothic undertones. A lot of physical artefacts inside are of British origin. It is said that the architecture of this building is inspired by that of the Windsor Castle and other architectural marvels of England and Normandy. The most prominent features of the Palace like the two-level granite structure of the fortified towers and turreted parapets take direct inspiration from the Tudor building styles. The entrance is decorated with grand Roman arches. The exterior of the building is covered in eccentric shapes and angles. The exterior walls are of a blushing cinnabar shade that gives the building a quaint Victorian vibe. The floor of the open courtyard of the Palace is adorned with granite seats covered with azure ceramic tiles. The ground floor also contains a beautifully decorated ballroom. The first floor of the Palace has a distinct chamber known as the Durbar Hall attached to an ornate staircase. This hall is famous for the enormous elephant head that is mounted in it and its gothic style tinted glass windows.

Best Time To Explore The Beauty Of South India
South India is full of tropical regions. It is known for the number of beaches, mountains, and hilly areas found in various states like Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Chennai, etc. therefore, the best time to visit the lower part of the Indian Subcontinents is the winter seasons. Though, there is variation found in the temperature of each state. But the climate that is found during the months of December to March is pleasantly cool. Having a tropical climate, Kerala is the state with least humidity found, among all the states. Moreover, during the winter season, the states of South India have a peak season for tourists visit. So plan your South India tour packages in winters to take advantage of great weather. Thus, during these months, traveling to South India will help you to get two-way benefits. One is the pleasant climate and the other is to meet new people in the form of tourists with a different culture.
The month of Summers is from March to early May. It gets very humid and hot hence it becomes difficult to indulge in outdoor activities. Due to the scorching heat, the tourist footfall is low hence the hotel prices go down. Hill stations in south India are still pleasant during this time.
Monsoons are less humid and the mountains are covered with misty fog and everything turns all green and brand new. Monsoon makes for a great time to visit the hills.
Winter is considered the best time to visit South India and the weather is absolutely pleasant at that time. This is the peak season hence the prices of hotels also rise.

Dinesh's 3 days trip to Kerala
The trip was nice. but i would suggest one thing, you should have informed that what the time you pick up us. So we would book the train accordingly. Because our trip started with this issue we arrived the railway station early morning 2.30 but your cab arrived at 8 am. We were new that place. So that time some collapsed happen for us. Otherwise the driver and the trip all was nice. You booked the hotel room for us i munnar that also a little bit disappointed. That hotel has no proper chef. We ordered a food at 8.pm but food came at 10.pm and food was also not that much better.

Harishtry's 3 days trip to Kerala
We are not able to get hold of the person in the reception and we need to go directly to get the things. We were also waiting for some time to get the food. If they could prepare the breakfast earlier based on the head count it would really helpful.

Ygprabhu's 5 days trip to Kerala
Munnar and Thekkady were great- both Winternote and Woodnote hotels are amazing. Staff was eager to please and were always available for service. Our cab driver Riyas Vali was very polite and respected our wishes of where to go and when to start, where to stop. Allepey houseboat was a unique experience for water cruise and overnight staying in the boat, but somewhat subpar in terms of absence of glitz, paucity of dining options, saltwater supply in bathrooms etc. Do not wish that this feedback be passed to houseboat operators, it is what it is and traveller should understand what they are getting into, that is look beyond how it is marketed. Need to appreciate that after buying the package, not an extra penny was asked anywhere. Do not sleep during the drives from Kochi to Munnar, to Thekkady, to Allepey- or you will miss beautiful forest and mountain scenery!

Nikunj's 7 days trip to Tamil Nadu
*Pros:* - Quick on call support at any point - Handling with patience while tweaking the itinerary multiple times - Budget friendly planning - Customization as per requirement - e.g break journey - Provided Hotel with good locations Cons: A: No idea of exact location & impacting events on the journey dates. e.g.1 We landed to Madurai on the day of Year's biggest festival of Minakshi Temple. Impacted our schedule. e.g.2 We were first timer to Tirupati. Being Travel planner - the team should have ensured that we have proper provision for Tirupati Darshan. Rather - the team took advance from us without confirming if we have ensured darshan tickets, - and then started our struggle with surprise - as we were not able to get Darshan Tickets. Somehow, we ourselves managed to get Darshan tickets at almost 6 times actual price, which is big amount - also impacting our budget & complete itinerary. We had to hire local vendor to solve this. Don't know if it is intentional by the Travel Planner, they just ensured that advance is received then let the travelers struggle with surprises. - how can Travel planner miss such important factors. Based on our request - additional discount was added by the travel agent- as we had to suffer extra cost to manage darshan tickets. e.g.3 We landed Trivandrum on day of election, due to which couple of our major destinations were not open on that day (Being Government Properties) This was also surfaced on the day - and no one from the travel agent team could anticipate this till last moment. This could have been better managed & well informed. B: Violation in the committed itineraries. e.g. 1 We supposed to land at Madurai at 5 am, which was well informed in advance. Still we found challenge to convince the team to arrange early morning pick-up, which was denied even after pre-agreements. Thanks to WhatsApp messages as proof - it saved us. e.g. 2 Based on early landing at Madurai - we specifically asked for ensuring early check-in at Madurai Hotel. Which was to our utter surprise,- this was completely missed by the team - and they denied for this & asked use to wait from 6 am to 12 pm for Check-in. We were in state of panic. Here also - Thanks to WhatsApp messages as proof - it saved us - which was having clear mention of the agreement for this requirement. But still - Team could not full-fill the agreement - and we had to adjust with make-shift arrangement for 1st half - 2 rooms instead of committed 4 rooms. e.g. 3 At Trivandrum, the checked-in hotel refused to give us Buffet Breakfast (CP plan), which was committed. Guess - this also happens. The hotel was under renovation and smelling paint at reception - this was not even known to the travel agents - that's what they say. So, the committed buffet they converted to “à la carte” and told us that it will be delivered to room. & they were not sure of Menu. This all information was given to us after interrogating the hotel staff at Check-in. Otherwise, it was left as Morning surprise. We had to argue & fight lot - to make sure they deliver Buffet - at least in limited way at their small available cafe. We got this done with Fight and involving travel agent. C: Driver's proficiency Make sure for south journey you ask for proper Driver who atleast understands Hindi. Else it will be like under-control of bot which is having it's own agenda. Our Driver - had limited agenda as per given list - that too was not followed - or we had to enforced. We managed somehow through Hinglish and could convey what sequence to be followed and made sure it is done. D: Hotel Categories - was committed to be 3-4 star atleast. 2 out of 5 provided hotels were way below 3 star category - atleast as experience. One of the hotel was so bad that - had to click photos to share bad experience with the agent. *Summarization:* - Agent should have proper understanding of location & other impacting factors (eg. Darshan Tickets, Larger events on the day, Hotel under renovation...) - Properties To be provided with proper check (e.g below committed star ratings, Breakfast facilities...)

Kasina's 6 days trip to Tamil Nadu
Guruvayur hotel was good Kodaikanal hotel had no proper service food was late. Had hot water issuse. Coimbatore hotel was good but got booked with wrong beds for couple we got 2single beds travel agent didn’t do anything about that told us to ajust and wifi is so bad. Asked to many times about wifi but no proper response from hotel. Car was good and driver was okay. Had too much volume for music that too only their regional music. Would leave us so far and say its due to parking issue. Mostly we paid for parking which says included in package. Lack of coordination b/w travel agent and cab agency. Driver was not aware of package and inclusives. Travel agent didnt guide us properly bcz palani temple was too crowded as we went on some auspicious day. And Kodaikanal was full of traffic as its weekend. As we are non local we wouldn’t know that. If we were informed about those we would have adjusted the dates likewise and would have had great overall experience. Got stuck in traffic for 8hrs nearly watched all places in traffic and for 6hrs mostly in temple even if we took highest ticket available. We had Avg. Experience I would rate 3 out of 5

India Tours & Vacations
There’s probably no other country on the planet that blazes its way into your memory like India.
Years later, you can still hear the morning calls of the chai wallahs; see smoke curling over the Ganges during a golden Varanasi sunrise , and smell the rich aromas of simmering curry. A lot of India tours rush from highlight to highlight, ticking them off in a blur of temples and tikka. But not us. Our India holidays are more about spotting Bengal tigers in Ranthambhore or Panna National Park, hanging with nomads in Jaisalmer, meeting the holy men of Pushkar, or hunting down the best street eats. This isn’t just the India you see on postcards. This is India as it is. Raw, bizarre and totally addictive.

Best time to visit india.
Due to India's size and topography, the climate varies from place to place but the best time to visit, generally speaking, is in the winter from December until early March. During the coolest months (December-January), temperatures can get quite cold in Delhi and in the north, especially at night. The whole country tends to get very hot from April onwards and most regions experience the summer from late May to around October. The summer offers hot and humid conditions, although this is considered one of the best times to visit Ladakh and the hills.

Culture and customs
India is one of the world’s oldest civilizations with a culture steeped in ancient beliefs and traditions. Religion also plays a massive role in everyday life with 80% of the population practicing Hinduism while the remaining 20% is divided into Muslim (India has the world’s second-largest Muslim population), Christian, Sikhism and Buddhist populations.
At its core, India remains a deeply conservative nation; however, it has been touched by rapid modernization and Western influences in recent years. Some families still adhere to a traditional structure (especially in more rural areas) with generations living under the same roof, the eldest male at the head of the family and arranged marriages. But this is becoming less and less popular, particularly in larger cities, where Western ideas and societal shifts heavily influence the culture due to things like Bollywood films.
While some behavioral standards remain the same (public displays of affection are still taboo), it’s important to keep in mind that with more than one billion people speaking over 122 languages across 28 states and seven territories, it’s impossible to describe one unified culture for the entire nations and the character of India’s people can vary greatly from city to city.

History and government
Early history.
Humans have inhabited India for as long as 75,000 years, with early civilizations flourishing as early as 3300 BC. Over the centuries, India both influenced and was influenced by other nations and kingdoms, with far-reaching trade, conquest and migration spreading the subcontinent's culture far and wide. Empires rose and fell over the centuries, with the wealthy Mughal Dynasty ruling most of India by 1600. At the same time, different European nations started showing an interest in India after being brought to the area for trade. The Portuguese, Dutch, British and French all had vested interests in India, with the British East India Company being given the rights to trade in India in 1617. The 1857 rebellion and War of Independence culminated in the decline of Mughal rule and were considered the first movements against the British Raj's heavy-handed rule of the country.
Recent history
By the 1920s, India's independence movement had grown considerably with Mohandas Gandhi leading mass movements based on passive resistance and non-cooperation against the British Raj. Although it took decades, India finally gained independence in 1947. More recently, India has seen dramatic societal changes mainly due to modernization and globalization. A new wave of prosperity has seen the rise of the middle class, with men and women entering into new work roles in telecommunications, manufacturing and business. India's large cities are dealing with the mass migration of rural citizens, who are moving to the city to seek better employment, education and opportunities for their children.

Festivals and events in India
Many of India’s biggest festivals are religious and follow either the Indian lunar calendar or the Islamic calendar. The dates may change each year, but the fervor of celebration never does. Some of the best and biggest festivals to keep an eye out for in India are:
Holi (Festival of Colour)
Take a whole lot of colored powder and water, add thousands of happy people not afraid to get a little (or a lot) dirty and you have Holi – a technicolor Hindu celebration that marks the beginning of spring and the triumph of good over evil. Celebrations take place across India in either February or March.
Diwali (Festival of Lights)
India’s biggest festival – meaning ‘rows of lighted lamps’, people decorate their homes with colorful lights, candles are lit and firework displays take place across the country. The celebrations are particularly spectacular in Varanasi, where illuminated candles and earthen lamps are floated down the Ganges River as fireworks light up the sky. This five-day festival takes place every October or November.
Gujarat Kite Festival
Large, colorful and unusual kites flood the skies of Gujarat each January to commemorate the start of summer and the beginning of harvest. Purchase your own at Patang Bazaar, a famous kite market, or just watch the others dance through the sky.
Mumbai Ganesh Festival
The birth of the elephant-headed god, Ganesh, is celebrated for 10-days each August or September in cities across India, but Mumbai takes it to another level. An incredible energy can be felt throughout the city as people pack the streets for a massive party and an elaborate statue of Ganesh is paraded around.
Pushkar Camel Fair
Thousands of camels (and their owners dressed in their finest garb) descend upon Rajasthan's Pushkar for the annual camel fair. Camels are traded and raced, acrobats and performers entertain crowds at a nearby fair, while finely dressed males and bejeweled females take the chance to let their hair down.

Trips from 1 January 2023 onwards

There are quite a number of carriers that are all very competitive, but Airtel is probably the best option for travelers. You’ll need to a copy of your passport and visa to pick up a SIM, and the process can sometimes be a hassle, but rates in India are very affordable given the competition.

Is India safe for LGBTQIA+ travelers?
The majority of Indian society is still conservative, and while most travelers will have a welcoming and hospitable experience, discretion is still advised for LGBTQIA+ travelers, particularly in more remote towns and villages which may be more conservative. The same advice is also given to heterosexual couples (and couples of all other sexual orientations) as public displays of affection other than hugging and holding hands are generally frowned upon.
For more detailed and up-to-date advice, we recommend visiting Equaldex or ILGA before you travel.
Is India accessible for travelers with disabilities?
Intrepid is committed to making travel widely accessible, regardless of ability or disability. That’s why we do our best to help as many people see the world as possible, regardless of any physical or mental limitations they might have. We’re always happy to talk to travelers with disabilities and see if we can help guide them towards the most suitable itinerary for their needs and, where possible, make reasonable adjustments to our itineraries.
As a general rule, knowing some common words in the local language, carrying a written itinerary with you and taking to the streets in a group, rather than solo, can help make your travel experience the best it can be.

China launches Chang'e 6 lunar probe, revving up space race with U.S.
WENCHANG SPACE LAUNCH SITE, China — China launched an uncrewed lunar spacecraft Friday in a first-of-its-kind mission to bring back samples from the far side of the moon, the latest step in a rapidly advancing Chinese space program that is spurring competition with the United States and others.
The Chang’e 6 lifted off on time at 5:27 p.m. local time (5:27 a.m. ET) from the Wenchang Space Launch Site in China’s southern island province of Hainan.
The launch of the lunar probe, which NBC News was one of a handful of news organizations to attend, and the national excitement around it had transformed the normally sleepy fishing village of Longlou into a major tourist attraction, with crowds spilling from tour buses and heading to beaches and rooftops with the best views of the spaceport. One rooftop owner said he had sold out 200 seats at 200 yuan (about $28) each.
Ahead of the launch there was a festival-like atmosphere on the beach, where vendors offered space paraphernalia and groups of children sold Chinese flags for 3 yuan (about 40 cents) each. Families sprawled on picnic blankets playing cards, while others strung up hammocks between palm trees so they could wait in the limited shade.
Yiuwah Ng, a 28-year-old real estate office worker from the southern Chinese city of Zhuhai, traveled six hours by car and another three hours by ferry to stake out the best spot along the shore, where he had been camping for three days with friends and his dog.
“I want to witness this historic moment,” he said of the launch, his fourth. “It’s an important first step for China’s lunar exploration.”
Max Zhang, a self-described “rocket chaser” from the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou, has been photographing launches at Wenchang from the beach since 2011.
“I’m addicted to the shock of seeing the launches, especially the sound of the rocket flame,” he said. “It shakes my heart.”
‘ A force to be reckoned with’
If successful, the Chang’e mission will be a crucial step in realizing the country’s goals of landing Chinese astronauts on the moon by 2030 and eventually building a base on the lunar surface.
The outcome of the mission will also have implications far beyond China’s borders. A slew of spacefaring nations — including Russia, India, Japan and the U.S. — also have their sights set on the moon, creating what some experts have likened to a new kind of space race.
“China is trying to prove that it’s a force to be reckoned with, and so it’s always that China is competing against everyone in space,” said Clayton Swope, deputy director of the Aerospace Security Project at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington.
A successful Chang’e 6 mission would demonstrate how sophisticated China’s lunar exploration program has become in a relatively short time.
“Twenty-five years ago, they had very rudimentary space capabilities,” said Todd Harrison, a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, a public policy think tank based in Washington. “Going from that to where they are today — I think they’ve clearly exceeded Russia, and their space capabilities are really only second to the United States.”
China achieved its first moon landing in 2013 with the Chang’e 3 mission, which set a lander and rover on the lunar surface to study the moon’s terrain. Before that, only the U.S. and the former Soviet Union had successfully landed spacecraft on the moon.
In 2019, China notched another historic milestone with its Chang’e 4 flight, becoming the first country to land a probe on the far side of the moon , the part that permanently faces away from Earth.
The following year, in 2020, China returned to the moon’s near side, which always faces Earth, landing the Chang’e 5 spacecraft on a volcanic plain known as Oceanus Procellarum. The probe retrieved samples there and brought them back to Earth, representing a big technological leap forward.
The China National Space Administration (CNSA) has invited scientists from the U.S., Europe and Asia to apply to borrow the lunar samples for their own research, holding a pitch meeting last week in the Chinese city of Wuhan. Researchers funded by NASA received rare approval from Congress to submit proposals, raising the possibility of high-level U.S.-China space cooperation that is otherwise prohibited by U.S. law.
This time, the Chang’e 6 spacecraft is aiming to land and retrieve samples from the South Pole-Aitken basin, an ancient and sprawling impact crater on the far side of the moon.
Conducting a sample return mission from the side of the moon that always faces away from Earth is challenging because mission controllers on the ground have no way of directly contacting a spacecraft in that region. Instead, signals need to be relayed through a satellite now orbiting the moon that China launched from the same site in Hainan last month.
While difficult, the effort could have enormous payoffs. Studies suggest that the moon’s near side was more volcanically active than the far side, which means all of the lunar samples obtained thus far may be telling only part of the story of the moon’s origin and evolution.
Collecting lunar samples from different geological eras and regions “is of great value and significant for all mankind to have a more comprehensive understanding of the moon and even the origin of the solar system,” Ge Ping, a mission leader from CNSA’s Lunar Exploration and Space Engineering Center, told reporters in Hainan on Thursday.
Beyond its scientific objectives, the Chang’e 6 mission carries with it geopolitical considerations. The flight is a precursor to a pair of Chinese robotic missions to the moon’s south pole to scout locations to build a moon base. Last year, the Chinese and Russian space agencies agreed to jointly build a research station on the lunar surface.
NASA and its commercial partners also aim to establish a permanent presence at the lunar south pole, though the agency’s Artemis moon missions have faced numerous delays and budget overruns . The current timeline has American astronauts returning to the lunar surface in 2026 at the earliest.
With China and Russia forming a rival coalition, there is some pressure for the U.S. to keep its foot on the accelerator, Harrison said.
“It does matter who gets there first, and it matters how you get there and what kind of coalition you’re bringing with you,” he said.
NASA Administrator Bill Nelson has on multiple occasions warned that the U.S. runs the risk of falling behind China’s lunar ambitions. In an interview this week with Yahoo Finance , Nelson outlined what’s at stake in the new space race.
“I think it’s not beyond the pale that China would suddenly say, ‘We are here. You stay out,’” he said.
Asked Thursday about international competition in space, Ge said, “All countries in the world should explore, develop and use outer space peacefully.”
“There is no need to worry too much,” he added. “Space programs are for all humans.”
As more countries around the world build up space capabilities, NASA has pushed for more global cooperation, establishing the Artemis Accords in 2020 to promote peaceful, responsible and sustainable practices. U.S. law prevents China from joining the 39 other nations that have signed the accords, which both China and Russia have criticized as a tool to promote U.S. dominance in space.
Many Western space policy experts have in turn raised concerns about China’s and Russia’s intentions. The full scope of China’s ambitions in space is not known, for instance, because its space agency does not operate with the same level of transparency as NASA. The country’s space program is also more closely tied to the military than in the U.S.
“We cannot ever say that China’s investment in civilian space technologies are only civilian and not to be used for military purposes,” said Namrata Goswami, a professor in the Thunderbird School of Global Management at Arizona State University and co-author of the 2020 book “Scramble for the Skies: The Great Power Competition to Control the Resources of Outer Space.”
While it may feel as if China’s spaceflight objectives have accelerated in recent years, they are part of a decadeslong strategy, Goswami said.
“Many of the leaders of China’s space program announced these goals and timelines 20 years ago,” she said. “What is astounding to me is that they are achieving almost all their milestones on time, and for them, that has a strategic advantage in the global narrative of who’s doing it better.”
As much as the moon and its resources can provoke competition among nations, space exploration can also be unifying, Swope said.
“We are literally a speck in the universe, and when we go to the moon or explore space, we as humankind have that shared human trait where we want to understand the unknown and we want to discover,” he said. “That does transcend politics.”
Janis Mackey Frayer reported from the Wenchang Space Launch Site in China, and Denise Chow reported from New York.
Janis Mackey Frayer is a Beijing-based correspondent for NBC News.
Denise Chow is a reporter for NBC News Science focused on general science and climate change.
