Collecting more holiday riders on route. Arrived at stables. Horses in good condition. We were offered coffee and tried on hats. We had a talk from the owner about riding and those of us who said we could ride were tested by getting on a horse, looking at seat and rein position. They are very adamant here you do not put pressure on the horses mouth. Even the British way is too strong. Loose reins here. There isn't a mounting block here, instead you are boosted from standing by a member of staff. All of us climbed up then we were off for a hack up the mountain. Two members of staff (Hassan and another) came on foot helping novice riders. The views at the top were stunning. We were given refreshments and the experienced riders were asked if they would like a gallop. ( I declined ) Rode down the mountain to be greeted by a lovely home made meal inc wine. They press their own olives here. The olive oil drizzled on my bread was do tasty. I bought some. Thanks Mama. Taken back to our hotel. I arrived at 1350. I would recommend Finikia Riding Stables. The staff are there to help and support. The owner is a character with a loving family, great staff. I'd certainly go back. For experienced riders you may need more riding time. I recently had a fantastic cruise experience in the Western Mediterranean, including Montenegro and Croatia, from April 23 to May 3, 2024. It was my first time cruising with Celebrity, and I was impressed with the spacious, comfortable cabin and polite staff. The shore excursions were fantastic, and we enjoyed walking around the towns to experience the local culture. We visited Sicily for the first time and saw Mt. Etna. Sitting in the café at St. Mark's Square in Venice was like living in the old world of Europe. Croatia's Riviera and Harry's Bar were fantastic, and Montenegro reminded us of its Soviet past. On the whole, the ten-day trip was worth the experience. The only problem I faced was vegetarian food. There were not many things to choose from. There were also some communication problems. Vehicles were smoking very badly and smelled of engine exhaust the entire time even with windows open. I had a headache and nausea which are both signs of carbon monoxide poisoning. The company also crammed too many passengers into each vehicle 7 or 8 people! Our small group was crammed into 3 vehicles when it should have been 4 vehicles. The very back seats were the worst and facing inward. None of the seats except the very front allowed passengers to view outside. The seats were too high. The rear seats offer nearly zero views of anything being pointed out along the way. Celebrity Cruises must not use this company until they upgrade the vehicles so we can see and aren’t raking carbon monoxide poisoning. They really do look after and put the needs of their horses first! You are matched to the best horse to suit you. Being an experienced rider I was matched with Victor who is a young horse, an absolute dream to ride even though they said he was the most challenging horse they have. My partner being a novice was given a lovely horse and had a great time. We had lunch with everyone and the food is the best we have had so far in crete! It just kept coming and we were treated to some lovely wine to go with it. You are able to buy your picture for €2 which goes to the care of the local dogs and cats. We were picked up and dropped off at our hotel which was an added bonus! I would highly recommend this horse riding tour. My omly piece of advice is to wear trousers and closed toe shoes! No wait, there was a parrot, but it was just left to do its own thing inside the bar. Oh and you get to watch the crew play backgammon! 2. They advertise the trip is for families but on board they let smokers smoke wherever they want that the whole ship was full of cigarette smoke. It’s was disgusting and left feeling sick. They need to keep an area for smokers, not let them be on every part of the ship where my kid left with a nasty cough and didn’t stop coughing all night. 3. Slipped on board as they didn’t have any mats on deck after you go for a swim. 4. Only ladders to get up and down the boat for a swim - not bad - but the problem is no one to help the flow of people trying to barge their way that it took 20 minutes just to go down the ladder. Overall, it’s not worth the money. It’s a shame because it could be something enjoyable but it’s not. As horse owners ourselves from the UK and huge horse lovers we were taken back by the natural beauty of the place. The love these animals receive from their family was evident and we will definitely return one day. The horses were well cared for and so well behaved for all abilities. Other than that, everything was good. The transfer to the starting point was smooth, the bus driver was skilled and kept us safe. Tour guide Ingrid gave everyone clear instructions, provided a map with all the water stations and informed about the ferry time and the meet up point. Cruise the Bay in a new way: Port of Oakland begins offering monthly sunset harbor tours

T he shimmer of sun on the water at the Port of Oakland is one of the Bay Area’s most striking views, and members of the public can enjoy it from a unique vantage point via free harbor boat tours starting Friday.

The port is offering free evening tours on a Blue & Gold Fleet boat once a month beginning May 10 and running through October 2024. Boarding is at the Oakland Jack London Terminal ferry dock at 10 Clay Street.

The Port of Oakland’s 90-minute guided harbor tours take guests into the Oakland middle and outer harbors. The boat goes under the western span of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge near Yerba Buena Island. Then the boat returns to Jack London Square. The live narration will give visitors the opportunity to learn about the Port’s seaport operations. They will see the Port’s iconic container cranes, mega-ships, and dockworkers up close.

This Friday’s tour is sold out, but additional tours are scheduled for June 14, July 12, Aug. 16, Sept. 13 and Oct. 18.

It is necessary to sign up for the tours in order to participate. It will be possible to sign up for the next tour on June 3. Online registration normally opens on the first Monday of each month for that month’s tour.

Information about the tours and tickets is available online. The June 14, July 12 and Aug. 16 cruises will run from 6:45 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. The Sept. 13 and Oct. 18 tours will run from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Boarding begins 15 minutes prior to departure.

Cruising the Moskva River: A short guide to boat trips in Russia’s capital

There’s hardly a better way to absorb Moscow’s atmosphere than on a ship sailing up and down the Moskva River. While complicated ticketing, loud music and chilling winds might dampen the anticipated fun, this checklist will help you to enjoy the scenic views and not fall into common tourist traps.

How to find the right boat?

There are plenty of boats and selecting the right one might be challenging. The size of the boat should be your main criteria.

Plenty of small boats cruise the Moskva River, and the most vivid one is this yellow Lay’s-branded boat. Everyone who has ever visited Moscow probably has seen it.

This option might leave a passenger disembarking partially deaf as the merciless Russian pop music blasts onboard. A free spirit, however, will find partying on such a vessel to be an unforgettable and authentic experience that’s almost a metaphor for life in modern Russia: too loud, and sometimes too welcoming. Tickets start at $13 (800 rubles) per person.

Bigger boats offer smoother sailing and tend to attract foreign visitors because of their distinct Soviet aura. Indeed, many of the older vessels must have seen better days. They are still afloat, however, and getting aboard is a unique ‘cultural’ experience. Sometimes the crew might offer lunch or dinner to passengers, but this option must be purchased with the ticket. Here is one such  option  offering dinner for $24 (1,490 rubles).

If you want to travel in style, consider Flotilla Radisson. These large, modern vessels are quite posh, with a cozy restaurant and an attentive crew at your service. Even though the selection of wines and food is modest, these vessels are still much better than other boats.

Surprisingly, the luxurious boats are priced rather modestly, and a single ticket goes for $17-$32 (1,100-2,000 rubles); also expect a reasonable restaurant bill on top.

How to buy tickets?

Women holding photos of ships promise huge discounts to “the young and beautiful,” and give personal invitations for river tours. They sound and look nice, but there’s a small catch: their ticket prices are usually more than those purchased online.

“We bought tickets from street hawkers for 900 rubles each, only to later discover that the other passengers bought their tickets twice as cheap!”  wrote  (in Russian) a disappointed Rostislav on a travel company website.

Nevertheless, buying from street hawkers has one considerable advantage: they personally escort you to the vessel so that you don’t waste time looking for the boat on your own.

Prices start at $13 (800 rubles) for one ride, and for an additional $6.5 (400 rubles) you can purchase an unlimited number of tours on the same boat on any given day.

Flotilla Radisson has official ticket offices at Gorky Park and Hotel Ukraine, but they’re often sold out.

Buying online is an option that might save some cash. Websites such as  this   offer considerable discounts for tickets sold online. On a busy Friday night an online purchase might be the only chance to get a ticket on a Flotilla Radisson boat.

This  website  (in Russian) offers multiple options for short river cruises in and around the city center, including offbeat options such as ‘disco cruises’ and ‘children cruises.’ This other  website  sells tickets online, but doesn’t have an English version. The interface is intuitive, however.

Buying tickets online has its bad points, however. The most common is confusing which pier you should go to and missing your river tour.

“I once bought tickets online to save with the discount that the website offered,” said Igor Shvarkin from Moscow. “The pier was initially marked as ‘Park Kultury,’ but when I arrived it wasn’t easy to find my boat because there were too many there. My guests had to walk a considerable distance before I finally found the vessel that accepted my tickets purchased online,” said the man.

There are two main boarding piers in the city center:  Hotel Ukraine  and  Park Kultury . Always take note of your particular berth when buying tickets online.

Where to sit onboard?

Even on a warm day, the headwind might be chilly for passengers on deck. Make sure you have warm clothes, or that the crew has blankets ready upon request.

The glass-encased hold makes the tour much more comfortable, but not at the expense of having an enjoyable experience.

Getting off the boat requires preparation as well. Ideally, you should be able to disembark on any pier along the way. In reality, passengers never know where the boat’s captain will make the next stop. Street hawkers often tell passengers in advance where they’ll be able to disembark. If you buy tickets online then you’ll have to research it yourself.

There’s a chance that the captain won’t make any stops at all and will take you back to where the tour began, which is the case with Flotilla Radisson. The safest option is to automatically expect that you’ll return to the pier where you started.
