Taylor Swift The 1989 World Tour Live In Seattle

T hroughout her 1989 tour, Taylor Swift’s been bringing everyone from Lorde to The Weeknd on stage to perform with her. Tay’s latest guest was Fetty Wap, who joined her at Seattle’s CenturyLink Field to perform his hit “Trap Queen.”

Swift was very, very excited about this duet. After the concert, she posted a photo on Instagram, declaring that she was “unable to find my chill.”

To make her excitement cross-platform , Swift also tweeted about the event, calling it “the happiest moment of my life to date.”

Rapper Vince Staples seemed pretty amused by Taylor Swift singing about “cooking pies” — since the kind of “pie” Fetty Wap is talking about is definitely not apple or cherry .

Taylor Swift: Come As Your Fav Taylor

Taylor Swift: Come As Your Fav Taylor

Taylor Swift w/  Vance Joy and Shawn Mendes CenturyLink, Seattle, WA 08.08.15

It has been two years since Taylor Swift last visited the Pacific Northwest. Then, twenty thousand screaming fans packed into the Tacoma Dome to hear Swift belt out her new hits off her then recent Red album . Having retired Red and put out a new album in an entirely different genre, Swift filled CenturyLink Field with 60,000 of her biggest fans in the PNW on Saturday night. She gave a performance to remember and the show of a lifetime. I ’ m still mesmerized. I ’ m also just a touch saddened that we likely won ’ t get a Taylor fix for another couple of years.

Some things were typical of just about any other large show. You didn ’ t have to look far to find homemade signs and even more handmade, customized shirts. But what was truly unique was the sheer number of Swifties, of all ages, who wore what I want to call the many different genres of Taylor. It was like attending a Halloween party that was themed “ Come as your fav Taylor ” (is this a great idea? Am I maybe on to something?). You could almost identify each style with an album. There were Enchanted Swifties: cowgirl boots, frilly dresses, flower headbands; Red Swifties: black and white outfits, fedoras, shirts from her previous Tacoma Dome tour. But, the 1989 Swifties were my absolute favorite. Oh, the range. From customized TS cheerleader uniforms, to white ballet swans, to sassy pleather pants – this was people watching at its prime, my friends. And there was one thing that tied just about everyone together: that red lipstick.

Now, down to the show… “Welcome to New York” kicked the night off with an excitement level so high that I thought there was no way Swift could maintain that energy throughout the entire show. I was wrong. She rocked just about every song from 1989 . She surprised the crowd with a badass version of “I Knew You Were Trouble,” complete with shooting steam, background dancers, and a threatening dance with the mic stand. Swift thanked all of her Taylor Nation fans in the crowd for their continued support over the years, filled with all of her genre changes. To show her appreciation, she shared some old favorites, too. She rewrote the background music of “Love Story” to coincide with the style of the 1989 Tour. As if that wasn ’ t enough, she played it on keyboard on an elevated, rotating stage.

And of course, a Taylor Swift show wouldn ’ t be complete without guest appearances from her close friends. Swift welcomed Fetty Wap to the stage for a surprise duet performance. She also brought out singer Ciara and Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson. I have never heard the CLink so loud.

Swift also sprinkled some pretty genuine dialogue into her set. She offered heartfelt, best-friend-advice as if she was talking to each person in the crowd on an individual basis over coffee. Quick synopsis: we should be more kind to everyone, including ourselves. We all deserve the very best in our relationships. We all make mistakes, and we should learn from them to make ourselves better. Swift ’ s smile had us captivated. Her hits had us dancing along. The dynamic, ever-changing performance had us truly feeling like there was no better place in that moment than to be sharing a Saturday night with her.

Until next time, Swift.

Taylor Swift Set List:

Welcome to New York New Romantics Blank Space I Knew You Were Trouble I Wish You Would How You Get the Girl I Know Places All You Had To Do Was Stay Trap Queen (Fetty Wap cover, w/ Fetty Wap) Mean Clean Love Story Style (Russell Wilson and Ciara walk runway) Bad Blood We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together Wildest Dreams (samples from Enchanted ) Out of the Woods Shake It Off

Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour is a cultural phenomenon. With unprecedented demand, smashed world records and a staggering 44-song setlist, the Eras tour spans Swift’s entire discography, chronicling all the various eras and albums of the Midnights singer’s career.

From the mad scramble to buy tickets that crashed Ticketmaster’s website to guest appearances from the likes of Taylor Lautner, Joey King, Haim and Phoebe Bridgers, Swift brings new surprises for her fans at each stop.

As the first round of Swift’s Eras Tour approaches its last dates in Los Angeles, The Hollywood Reporter has compiled the biggest highlights from the tour so far.

Fans Crash Ticketmaster Presale

A ticketmaster website

Before the Eras Tour even began, it was making history. During the rush to buy tickets after five-plus years of waiting, the retailer site Ticketmaster crumbled, with many experiencing multiple hour-long waits and the majority of fans not being able to secure tickets. According to Ticketmaster, the demand was unprecedented and led to no tickets being available as a part of the general sale. Ticket prices soared above $1,000 for the cheapest seats on the resale market, leading to congressional hearings that included more than a few tongue-in-cheek Swift references.

"22" Hat Giveaways — Selena Gomez’s Sister, Kobe Bryant’s Daughter

Singer-songwriter Taylor Swift (L) and NBA player Kobe Bryant speak onstage during The 1989 World Tour Live In Los Angeles at Staples Center on August 21, 2015 in Los Angeles, California.

It’s a nightly ritual at the Eras Tour for Swift to gift her black fedora hat to one lucky fan in the audience during her performance of Red hit song “22.” At an Arlington, Texas, show on April 1, Swift stopped to say hello to Selena Gomez’s 9-year-old sister, Gracie, who was in attendance with the Only Murders in the Building star, to exchange the hat for a friendship bracelet. Similarly, during her Thursday night show at Los Angeles’ SoFi Stadium, the Eras performer shared a sweet moment with Kobe Bryant’s daughter Bianka Bryant. The pair hugged as Swift placed the hat on Bianka’s head.

In 2015, the late Lakers legend joined Swift onstage at the then-Staples Center during her 1989 tour, surprising her with a championship-style banner in honor of her record-breaking 16 sold-out shows at the arena.

'Speak Now (Taylor's Version)' Announced in Nashville

At her first Nashville stop on May 5, Swift treated fans to the highly anticipated announcement that album rerelease Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) would drop on July 7. As expected, the artist teased the announcement days before the show, posting a purple heart emoji on social media. Before launching into Speak Now track and surprise song of the night “Sparks Fly,” Swift debuted a first look at the album cover on the big screens of Nissan Stadium, while purple lights lit up the Nashville’s Cumberland River bridge.

“You know how I love to plan things, and how I love to surprise you with the things I plan,” she said onstage. “It’s my love language with you — I plot, I scheme, I plan and I get to tell you about it.”

It fills me with such pride and joy to announce that my version of Speak Now will be out July 7 (just in time for July 9th, iykyk 😆) I first made Speak Now, completely self-written, between the ages of 18 and 20. Haim Takes the Stage for "No Body, No Crime"

Este Haim, Taylor Swift, Danielle Haim and Alana Haim perform onstage during Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour at Levi's Stadium on July 28, 2023 in Santa Clara, California.

Swift’s real-life besties from sibling trio band Haim joined the Speak Now singer onstage in Seattle on July 22. Together, the friends performed their Evermore collab “No Body, No Crime,” marking the first live performance of the song on the Eras Tour. With the girl band announced as one of the opening acts for the tour, fans expected Haim to appear at least once to perform alongside Swift.

Ice Spice Collabs With Swift on "Karma" Remix

Ice Spice and Taylor Swift perform onstage during "Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour" at MetLife Stadium on May 27, 2023 in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

On the day she released the Midnights album extended version The Til Dawn Edition , Swift brought out one of her newest collaborators Ice Spice onto New Jersey’s Metlife Stadium stage. The rapper, who features on a remix edition of Midnights hit song “Karma,” joined Swift onstage to perform her verse and close out the show for three nights in a row.

Phoebe Bridgers Performs Vault Track "Nothing New" While Opening for Swift

Phoebe Bridgers and Taylor Swift perform onstage during night two of Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour at Nissan Stadium on May 06, 2023 in Nashville, Tennessee.

Across the Nashville, Philadelphia, Massachusetts and New Jersey legs of the tour, Phoebe Bridgers joined Swift as not only an opening act, but also a stage partner. With acoustic guitars in hand, Bridgers and Swift took to the Eras stage multiple times to perform their fan-favorite vault track from Red (Taylor’s Version) , “Nothing New.” On Bridgers’ final night on the tour at MetLife, the friends shared heartfelt goodbyes on stage. “You are my hero,” Bridgers told Swift onstage, with Swift responding: “Thank you for being the friend that you’ve been to me.”

“Long Live” Is Added to the Set List

Taylor Swift performs onstage during "Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour" at SoFi Stadium on August 03, 2023 in Inglewood, California.

After the release of Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) , fan-favorite song “Long Live” off the album entered the set list. Presumably, until that point Swift had previously avoided performing too many songs off of Speak Now so as not to promote any tracks owned by Scooter Braun.

"I Can See You" Video Drops With Special Guest Appearances: Taylor Lautner, Presley Cash and Joey King

(L-R) Presley Cash, Taylor Swift, Joey King and Taylor Lautner speak onstage for night one of Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium on July 07, 2023 in Kansas City, Missouri.

The hit single off Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) was the new “From the Vault” track “I Can See You,” which became a radio hit and charted on Billboard. To announce the music video she directed for the track, Swift brought out the video’s stars, including ex-boyfriend Taylor Lautner along with Presley Cash and Joey King, on stage at the Eras Tour in Kansas City. Lautner performed a backflip, a nod to his scene with Swift in the 2010 film Valentine’s Day. “He and his wife have become some of my closest friends, and it’s very convenient because we all share the same first name,” said Swift onstage during the video announcement.

Two Surprise Songs at Each Show

Taylor Swift The Eras Tour

Every single stop of the tour, Taylor Swift has performed two surprise songs that are unique to that tour stop, only repeating a handful of tracks from amongst her vast discography. Fans have tracked the songs online via Twitter — even maintaining complex spread sheets — hoping to get one of their favorites that isn’t a part of the main set list as a “surprise song.” Highlights have included “Hits Different,” “Death by a Thousand Cuts,” “Our Song,” “Tim McGraw” and many more.

Taylor Swift Fans Cause an Earthquake

Guests attend the "Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour" at SoFi Stadium on August 03, 2023 in Inglewood, California.

At the Eras Tour stop in Seattle, fans partied so hard they caused the equivalent of a small earthquake . This rivaled Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch’s “Beast Quake” from 2011, thought Swift came out as the clear winner when measured on the Richter scale.

Taylor Swift Announces ‘1989 (Taylor’s Version)’

Taylor Swift performs onstage of "Taylor Swift The Eras Tour"

On the last night of the first leg of her U.S. tour, Swift revealed that 1989 (Taylor’s Version) will release Oct. 27. Throughout her performance at sixth night of Eras Tour shows at Los Angeles’ SoFi Stadium, the singer teased the announcement by wearing several blue outfits to celebrate the occasion. Following the announcement, fans were treated to 1989 track “New Romantics.” The rerecorded version will feature 21 songs, including five previously unreleased songs from The Vault as described on Swift’s website.

“Surprise!! 1989 (Taylor’s Version) is on its way to you,” Swift wrote on social media. “The 1989 album changed my life in countless ways, and it fills me with such excitement to announce that my version of it will be out October 27th. To be perfectly honest, this is my most FAVORITE re-record I’ve ever done because the 5 From The Vault tracks are so insane. I can’t believe they were ever left behind. But not for long!”

A Comprehensive List Of Taylor Swift's '1989' Tour Guests So Far

Jillian Capewell

News Editor, HuffPost

Forget "My Little Pony" -- Taylor Swift 's special-guest roster on her "1989" tour proves friendship is magic.

Thanks to Instagram and Twitter, the celebrities and musicians she invites on stage each night have become as expected as her shiny outfits and smooth backup dancers. In the beginning, Swift's invitees were slightly more expected: ladies from her much-'grammed crew, or musical acts that could use Swift's star power to reach a bigger audience.

But when unexpected, er, friends started to pop up -- the U.S. Women's Soccer Team? Joan Baez?? Kobe Bryant??? -- it was hard to keep track of just how many famous faces graced the many stadiums Swift set foot in. Here's a list of all the celeb cameos we've seen on the "1989" tour as of Monday. With three more shows in LA this week, followed by San Diego, Salt Lake City, Denver, and St. Paul -- to name just a few -- we're sure this list will become much longer before the year's end. And we say, the more, the merrier. But if Swift finds that there is simply no one left in Hollywood to invite, we here at The Huffington Post would gladly step up to the plate. Just sayin'.

Taylor Swift announces ‘1989 (Taylor’s Version)’ at Eras Tour show in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Taylor Swift closed the 2023 U.S. leg of her landmark Eras Tour Wednesday night in Los Angeles in a big way, announcing the fourth edition of her re-recording project: “1989 (Taylor’s Version).”

After playing a few tracks from her “1989” era live, including an abridged take on “Bad Blood,” the pop superstar approached the center of the stage with an acoustic guitar in hand and suggested to the audience that she had been working on something big.

“Instead of just, like, telling you about it, I think I’ll just sort of show you,” she told the crowd as the screen illuminated behind her. “’1989 (Taylor’s Version)’ available Oct. 27!” she cheered, pointing out that she was revealing this on the eighth month of the year and the ninth day — a numerical clue.

Then she launched into a surprise performance of the ascendant “1989” track “New Romantics” and the “Reputation”-era piano ballad “New Year’s Day” for the first time during her world tour.

Just last month, Swift released her re-recording of “Speak Now” and soon claimed the record for the woman with the most No. 1 albums in history. The “Taylor’s Version” projects were sparked by music manager Scooter Braun’s purchase and subsequent sale of her early catalog.

Beyond the breaking news, across more than three-and-a-half hours at SoFi Stadium, Swift offered fans a bevy of career-spanning tracks — less a greatest hits collection, and more a live celebration of an artist in her veterancy.

Choreographed easter eggs were frequent. Swift would mimic dance moves from her iconic music videos and crack jokes about her feelings and “women-splaining to men how to apologize to women.”

Openers — and “besties,” as Swift described them — HAIM joined her on stage for the “evermore” cut “no body, no crime.”

Across more than 40 tracks reflecting 17 years of recorded music, it was as if the ground shook with the rapturous sound of 70,000 fans scream-singing along to her hits and deep cuts alike. This was Taylor Swift’s house — filled with fans in light Taylor Swift cosplay (pink dresses for her 2019 album “Lover,” black leather and snakeskin prints for 2017’s “Reputation,” sequins and A-line skirts for 2014’s “1989,” and so on).

Before launching into her “1989” era tracks, Swift performed an emotive single from her “folkore” album, “cardigan.” “When you are young, they assume you know nothing,” she sang, contorting the line in the third verse, “I knew everything when I was young.”

For a performance predicated on returning to the past as well as celebrating the present, it felt like a mission statement. Throughout her career and her many sonic experiments, Swift has been a keen observer of human condition and heartbreak. Even in those early songs about fantasies and fairytales, she demonstrates a kind of pragmatic wisdom. It is why a song she wrote when she was 16 can elicit the same sort of response as one written in her 30s.

And in a summer stacked with superstar tours celebrating giant new releases — like the larger-than-life experiences of Beyoncé’s “Renaissance” World Tour and Drake’s 56-date “It Was All a Blur” tour — Taylor Swift’s lookback Eras Tour stands proudly among them.

For fans who desire their beloved artist play the hits — she certainly delivered.

Taylor has 'reset' the surprise song list, which means anyone attending a show in 2024 can anticipate hearing a song she's already performed. She previously stated that she will only play each surprise song once during the tour, unless she messes one up.

There's also no rules for Taylor repeating songs from Midnights as surprise songs, which means fans may get to hear the likes of 'You're On Your Own Kid' and 'Snow on the Beach' again at some point in the future.

We'll update this article with every Surprise Acoustic Song – and every surprise song that she will play again – after every show.

Will Taylor Swift change the Eras Tour setlist to include The Tortured Poets Department?

Will Taylor Swift change the Eras Tour setlist for the international shows?

As of March 9th 2024, the Eras Tour setlist has remained the same as the U.S. leg. However, with the release of The Tortured Poets Department in April, things could change. More on that further down the page.

Fans attending the European shows might end up hearing Taylor perform ' Castles Crumbling ' with Hayley Williams as an additional song during the Speak Now section, as Paramore will be supporting her throughout those tour dates. (Both Phoebe Bridgers and HAIM joined Taylor on stage to perform 'Nothing New' and 'No Body, No Crime' respectively on the nights they were support acts.)

After completing her shows in South America, Australia, Japan and Singapore, Taylor is now set to pick the tour back up in Europe in May 2024 and run through to mid-August, before returning to North America in November 2024.

Will Taylor Swift change the Eras Tour setlist to include The Tortured Poets Department ?

Taylor's brand new album was released on April 19th, just before she embarks on the European leg of the Eras Tour. The full anthology version of the album includes a whopping 31 new songs.

We won't know for sure whether or not the official setlist will change to accommodate those songs until she kicks off the Eras Tour in Paris on May 9th.

It's unclear if she will add a new TTPD section to the tour, but it's looking very likely that Taylor will perform some of those new songs as surprise songs. We'll update this article as soon as we know more!

What are Taylor's most performed songs on tour?

Before she embarked on The Eras Tour, Taylor’s top 3 most performed songs are ‘Love Story’ (491 times), ‘Our Song’ (404 times) and ‘You Belong With Me’ (381 times).

Of course, almost all of Taylor’s most performed songs are from her first two albums. As the list goes on, the Speak Now bops, Red bangers and 1989 hits start to weave their way in.

If you’re wondering what Taylor’s most played songs from her first five albums are, here’s a break down:

  • Taylor Swift : ‘Our Song’, ‘Tim McGraw’ and ‘Picture To Burn’
  • Fearless: ‘Love Story’, ‘You Belong With Me’ and ‘Fifteen’
  • Speak Now : ‘Sparks Fly’, ‘Mean’ and ‘Mine’
  • Red : ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together’, ‘I Knew You Were Trouble’ and ‘Red’
  • 1989 : ‘Shake It Off’, ‘Blank Space’ and ‘Out of the Woods’

Taylor has only had the chance to perform songs from Reputation on the Reputation Stadium Tour so far, but ‘Ready For It?’, ‘Delicate’ and ‘Look What You Made Me Do’ take the top spots when it comes to live performances of the Rep tracks.

Due to the cancellation of Lover Fest, Taylor hasn’t been able to perform Lover on a tour setting. Folklore, Evermore and Midnights will also be making their tour debut on the Eras Tour.

"Been through a lot with this dude over the years, but safe to say this was a most memorable day," he wrote. "What I'll remember most was the laughter. There was a lot of it. Like we were 17 all over again."

In the music video, Hawke and Charles appear as researchers examining Swift, who is seen strapped to a gurney with an electrical contraption attached to her head.

Hawke wrote on his Instagram page on Saturday that it was "quite an honor" to be involved in the music video.

The Dead Poets 'Tortured Poets' crossover seemed to be a nod to the similarities of the album and movie's titles. The late Robin Williams starred alongside Hawke and Charles in the 1989 classic.

Swift released The Tortured Poets Department , a 31-track surprise double album on Friday. It has already made history by becoming the first album ever to be streamed over 300 million times in a single day on Spotify, according to the music streamer.

Nostalgia to authenticity: taylor swift's existential shift, kierkegaardian "repetition" moves beyond reminiscence..

Many of Taylor Swift's songs employ remembering , telling stories from past experience. Some of her music goes further, conjuring the Platonic notion of recollection , mining essential truth within the marrow of memories.

Yet Danish philosopher Soren Kierkegaard associated "recollection" with motionlessness, contrasting it with repetition , characterized by constant motion and passionate commitment towards an ethical future. Kierkegaard's "repetition" involves moving beyond recollection.

Kierkegaard was not actually promoting repeating anything but engaging in reflection which reinterprets past events in ways that imbue them with constructive meaning (ESB, 2024), a form of existential engagement that contributes to the formation of authenticity , in contrast to recollection, which is primarily aesthetic . Unlike recollection which is backward looking, this type of repetition is forward looking and tied to present action and future hope.

Remembering Yesterday

In popular music, recollection is ubiquitous.

Source: Matthew Hoobin / Wikimedia Commons

Take "Yesterday," written by Paul McCartney. The lyrics reflect on a past love and the longing for simpler times. " Why she had to go I don't know. She wouldn't say. I said something wrong. Now I long for yesterday ."

It's among the most popular songs of all time.

"Yesterday" mourns a loss, creating a musical shrine. McCartney isn't certain of the song's origins. He intended the words to be "girl lyrics" fictionalizing love lost, but recently wondered whether he had unconsciously penned memories of his mother, who died when he was fourteen (Muldoon, 2024), offering a poignant reframe. Either way, it is memory laced with sentiment and regret.

Repetition is more existential engagement than reminiscence .

Has Swift's Music Become More Courageous?

Source: Brian Cantoni / Wikimedia Commons

Early songs from Swift's 2006 self-titled debut album offer prime examples of a wistful outlook—"Tim McGraw," "Cold as You," and "Should've Said No." Then on her 2008 Fearless album, "Fearless," "Love Story," and "You Belong with Me" each persist in memorialization of past relationships or other experiences, often with a nostalgic tone, reminiscing about specific moments or feelings. Similarly, "Back to December" (album: Speak Now , 2010) expresses regret and longing.

Nostalgia and regret are powerful emotional experiences, yet fall short of contemplating one's place in the world, wresting meaning from loss, or embracing new life.

But then we encounter "Long Live" (album: Speak Now , 2010), a triumphant anthem celebrating shared experiences and overcoming obstacles. In addition to immortalizing late-night drives and friendships forged in fire, it’s a victory march against life’s struggles. Swift sings, "Long live all the mountains we moved, I had the time of my life fighting dragons with you." This recollection isn’t just looking back. It's an affirmation of life. Here Swift transforms memories into sources of strength, a subtle but important shift.

Source: makaiyla willis / Wikimedia Commons

Consider this melancholic acknowledgement of self-doubt in "All Too Well" (album: Red , 2012): " Time won't fly, it's like I'm paralyzed by it, I'd like to be my old self again, but I'm still trying to find it. " Here, even in the wreckage of memories, Swift elicits strength.

In “Out of the Woods" (album: 1989 , 2014), Swift’s protagonist sprints through a metaphorical forest, heart pounding, seeking escape, evoking themes of introspection and facing struggles. Trees whisper secrets—tangled relationships, doubts, fears. The frantic pace and vivid imagery capture a sense of urgency. The song portrays a character bravely confronting inner demons and seeking to emerge from a tumultuous emotional landscape, a journey towards greater self-understanding, growth, and ultimately finding a way.

Source: makaiyla willis / Wikimedia Commons

“New Year’s Day” (album: Reputation , 2017) unfolds with Swift’s piano inviting reflection. Kierkegaard believed repetition empowers us to be fully present and courageously forward looking. Here, as a year turns, we find solace in ordinary magic and anticipation. The song isn’t about grand fireworks; it’s about the quiet spark—shared moments. Rather than a mere backward glance, it’s seeing life’s confetti as both aftermath and promise.

Swift’s vulnerability blooms in her introspective track, "The Archer" (album: Lover , 2019). The archer aims at her own heart, dissecting patterns. Kierkegaard’s “sickness unto death” resonates. The bridge—“ All the king’s horses, all the king’s men ”—weaves fractured fairy tales and evokes emotional wounds. But Swift isn’t waiting for rescue; she’s stitching herself.

Transformative Dialogue With Ourselves

Swift extracts self-assurance through emotional poetry—" And you can aim for my heart, go for blood, but you would still miss me in your bones " (Swift, "My Tears Ricochet," album: Folklore , 2020). Even so, songs drenched in recounting lose space for deeper, more consequential reflection.

Earlier albums like Fearless (2008) presented a more essentialist view of love and relationships, while Evermore (2020), for example, evokes existential feelings and themes, prompting listeners to turn the lens inward and contemplate deeper life questions and emotions.

Ronald Woan / Wikimedia Commons

"Anti-Hero" (album: Midnights , 2022) delves into complexities of self-image and the struggle to reconcile one's perceived flaws with a desire for authenticity—" It's me, hi, I'm the problem, it's me ." Grappling with questions of identity, purpose, and the human condition, Swift invites listeners to engage in a transformative dialogue with themselves.

Some of Swift's recent work bears a striking resemblance to Kierkegaard's method of indirect communication, incorporating ambiguity, paradox, and persona, forcing listeners to actively uncover meaning for themselves. There is a deep personal and emotional resonance in her art for so many, so they wait with bated breath to hear what comes next from The Tortured Poets Department .

Kierkegaard (1843b) journaled, "It is really true what philosophy tells us, that life must be understood backwards. But with this, one forgets the second proposition, that it must be lived forwards."

Taylor Swift shares details about her family's ties to Singapore during 'Eras Tour' concert

  • Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below

It’s safe to say that Scott Swift and his wife Andrea, aka Taylor Swift ’s mom, were the first ever Swifties.

The parents are fixtures at Taylor Swift's concerts and events and can often be spotted interacting with fans, holding up a phone to record a memory or looking on at their daughter with pride.

The singer has often spoken about the love between her family and thanked them for the sacrifices they've made for her career. After winning top new female vocalist at the 2008 Academy of Country Music Awards , Swift said "there are so many people that deserve to be thanked for this," but she dedicated her acceptance speech to just one.

"And that’s the person that used to love to go to lunch with her friends and cook dinner for her family and sleep in her bed every night, and she gave that all away and left it all behind to go on the road with her 16-year-old daughter," she said. "And so, Mom, thank you so much. I love you. This is for you."

More than 15 years later, she continues to gush about her family. During her March 2 "Eras Tour" show in Singapore, Swift discussed her mom's ties to the country.

“My mom actually spent a lot of her childhood with her mom and dad and sister growing up in Singapore, actually," she said during the show . “So a lot of the time when we’d come here on tour, my mom would take me and drive me past her old house, where she used to go to school. So, I’ve been hearing about Singapore my whole life."

During the "Eras Tour" setlist, Taylor Swift performed " Marjorie," a touching track about her grandmother. In Singapore, she thanked the crowd for singing along.

"To get to come here and play a show this big with so many beautiful, generous people who are essentially honoring my family with what you just did with that song, it means the world," she said.

Read on to learn more about Taylor Swift's parents.

Who are Scott and Andrea Swift?

Scott and Andrea Swift welcomed their daughter, Taylor Swift, on Dec. 13, 1989 — a date significant to many Swifties as 13 is the singer's lucky number and her fifth album is named "1989."

They later became parents of two when they welcomed Taylor’s brother, Austin , in 1992.

“Mama Swift,” as Swifties know her, is frequently seen with her daughter and her fans.

Andrea shows up in support of her daughter to multiple events, appearing at many of the “Eras Tour” shows and even being her daughter’s plus-one at award shows .

Andrea is the daughter of American opera singer Marjorie Finlay.

Taylor Swift frequently alludes to her maternal grandmother, who passed away in 2003, and her impact on her singing career, dedicating her track “marjorie” to her grandmother on her album “evermore.”

The pop star's relationship with her mother is shown in a heartwarming compilation of pictures and videos from her childhood in the music video for her song "The Best Day (Taylor's Version)."

She shows a ra re glimpse of family photos, touching on her relationship with her mother from the age of 5 until her young adult years.

"You're the prettiest lady in the whole wide world," she sings. "I love you for giving me your eyes."

She also mentions her father, Scott Swift, in the song.

"I have an excellent father," she sings. "His strength is making me stronger."

After her Santa Clara "Eras Tour" show on July 28, she posted a video of him riding a Segway on Tik Tok .

The financial advisor worked at Merrill Lynch, and later established Swift Group.

Andrea and Scott Swift tied the knot in 1988, about a year before their daughter was born in 1989.

They moved from Pennsylvania to Tennessee

Andrea and Scott Swift moved to Tennessee in 2003.

Another one of her videos showing a compilation of memories with her family, "Christmas Tree Farm,” came out in 2019.

She alludes to the Christmas tree farm where she was raised.

Their kids were born in Reading, Pennsylvania, and Taylor Swift briefly mentions Pennsylvania in her songs, one example being "seven" on her album "folklore."

In 2003, they moved to Nashville to support their daughter's singing career.

"At 13, I was offered a development deal by a major record label," Swift told TIME in 2014.

"My parents gave in and we moved from Pennsylvania (to Nashville)."

Swift announced the release of "Speak Now (Taylor's Version)" in Nashville during "The Eras Tour" on May 5.

In an Instagram post, she wrote about how she felt when first writing the album.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Taylor Swift (@taylorswift)

"I first made Speak Now, completely self-written, between the ages of 18 and 20," she wrote in the caption.

At the time, she lived in Nashville.

"The songs that came from this time in my life were marked by their brutal honesty, unfiltered diaristic confessions and wild wistfulness."

Scott and Andrea Swift 's cancer journeys

Both Andrea and Scott Swift have battled cancer, Taylor Swift revealed in a 2019 essay for Elle .

“I’ve had to learn how to handle serious illness in my family,” she wrote. “Both of my parents have had cancer, and my mom is now fighting her battle with it again.”

Taylor Swift revealed that her mother was battling cancer in 2015, then again in 2019, though she did not share the type of the cancer.

Her daughter shared her distress over her mom's diagnosis in her music.

“Who am I supposed to talk to? What am I supposed to do if there's no you,” she sang in her 2019 track “Soon You’ll Get Better.”

“You’ll get better soon, ‘cause you have to.”

In a 2019 interview with CBS News , she said she "can't even listen to" the song.

"I don't think I have written a song quite like that before," she said. "It's just not something we deal with until we have to. Writing about it was really emotional."

She performed the song live for the first time in August 2019.

In 2020, Taylor shared that her mother was diagnosed with a brain tumor .

She told Variety that her mother was diagnosed with the tumor while undergoing chemotherapy treatments for cancer.

Scott Swift's political disagreements with his daughter

The 2020 Netflix documentary “Miss Americana” showed Taylor Swift and her father having political disagreements.

Taylor Swift decided to voice her political opinions on social media, a choice her father didn’t agree with at the time. In 2018, she released a lengthy statement on Instagram .

She said she does not support Marsha Blackburn running for Senate in the state of Tennessee, saying she "votes against equal pay for women," and the "Violence Against Women Act."

"These are not MY Tennessee values," she wrote.

The documentary shows her father saying he was "terrified" about Taylor sharing her political views.

Taylor Swift went through with the post.

“I need to do this,” she told her father. “Dad, I need you to forgive me for doing this, because I’m doing it.”

Andrea and Scott Swift at 'The Eras Tour'

To this day, the star's parents publicly support her career.

On the North American leg of "The Eras Tour," Andrea and Scott Swift attended many of the shows.

One TikTok user posted a video in May which shows the two at her Philadelphia show.

The two are walking into the venue together and fans are giving them friendship bracelets.

Another TikTok video , posted in July, shows them inside the VIP tent at their daughter's Seattle show.

They're singing along as their daughter performs her track "You Belong With Me," and Scott Swift takes out his phone to record his daughter's performance.

Scott Swift and Travis Kelce have attended 'Eras Tour' concerts together

Scott Swift also appears to be a Travis Kelce fan.

The senior Swift has cheered on his daughter at her "Eras Tour" shows alongside Kelce, her boyfriend , during at least two shows — a Nov. 11 show in Argentina and Feb. 23 in Sydney.

During the Buenos Aires concert, instead of singing, “Karma is the guy on the screen / Coming straight home to me,” Taylor Swift said, “Karma is the guy on the Chiefs / Coming straight home to me,” making Scott immediately turn to Kelce to give him a high-five.

However, in a video that a fan posted online, it looks like Kelce doesn’t appear to notice the high-five that Scott was trying to give him as he’s too busy celebrating the moment.

When asked about the missed high-five on his “New Heights” podcast , Kelce said he did leave Scott hanging, but not on purpose.

“Yeah, Mr. Swift, I apologize big guy and I missed that,” he said. “I never miss a high-five too. Big high-five guy. It’s the most electric thing you can do at an event, so sorry, Mr. Swift.”

CORRECTION (Oct. 19, 9:10 a.m. ET): A previous version of this article stated Andrea Swift battled breast cancer. It has been updated to reflect that the type of cancer she was diagnosed with has not been publicly disclosed. This story also incorrectly stated Scott and Andrea Swift had reportedly ended their marriage in 2011, and the story has been updated.
