Tears for Fears Announce 2022 U.S. Tour

Tears for Fears will set out on an expansive nationwide tour in 2022 in support of their new album The Tipping Point .

“We couldn’t be more excited to start playing concerts again," Tears for Fears co-founder Curt Smith said in a news release. "We’ve missed seeing our friends on the road around the world, and the energy of performing live."

Bandmate Roland Orzabal added: “ The Tipping Point has been a long time in the making and we are looking forward to playing our favorites from the new album as well as our classics from throughout the years.”

The tour kicks off on May 20 in Cincinnati, roughly three years since the band’s most recent stateside performance, which took place in 2019 at the Shaky Knees festival in Atlanta. Tears for Fears' 2022 trek, which will feature support from Garbage, is currently scheduled to run through June 25.

A complete list of tour dates can be viewed below.

“I’m very much looking forward to it,” Smith shared during an exclusive conversation with UCR. “Particularly, because we now get to add new songs, which we haven’t been able to do for a long time. That makes it all the more exciting. The same way I get a kick out of putting together the running order on an album, putting together a running order live is great and a little terrifying at first – because you never know.”

Smith admits there may be some early growing pains as Tears for Fears integrates new songs on stage. “Normally, you don’t actually get a workable set until a few dates in,” he explained. “So, if you come to the beginning, it should be interesting. We’re flying by the seat of our pants because, you know, what sounds good to us in rehearsal, you don’t know – you never know until you’re in front of an audience. You never know what the response is going to be.”

Due on Feb. 25, The Tipping Point marks the first album in 17 years for Tears for Fears, best-known for such ‘80s classics as “Mad World,” “ Shout ,” “ Head Over Heels ” and “ Everybody Wants to Rule the World .” Smith said the group has been reenergized by the new material.

“This album, I think, is wonderful,” Smith says. “Normally when we finish records, I’m kind of done listening to them – because I’ve heard these songs so many times. But once we put this album, at the end of it, the journey it takes you on, I still listen to it. I mean, I listen to it when I go walk my dog and I’m like, ‘Yeah, we’ve done something that’s really good here.’ So in that sense, it’s very gratifying.”

Tears for Fears Debut Four New Songs Live at 2022 Tour Kickoff: Review, Photos and Setlist

"The Tipping Point World Tour" is plenty satisfying in its familiarity, but full of welcome surprises as well

Tears for Fears Debut Four New Songs Live at 2022 Tour Kickoff: Review, Photos and Setlist

Addressing the crowd on Friday (May 20th), the first night of their amphitheater tour with Garbage at Cincinnati’s Riverbend Music Center, Tears for Fears founding member Roland Orzabal pinpointed the band’s mood as “chuffed,” as in “deeply satisfied in a particularly British manner.” The band had brought out “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” three songs into their set, sounding just as pristine and cathartic now as it did when first recorded nearly 40 years ago.

Conventional wisdom might be to save such an iconic hit for the latter half of the set or the encore. But Tears for Fears are not a mere legacy act capitalizing on Gen X-er nostalgia. You can identify the most popular songs by how many people start recording on their phones. But deeper cuts, like epic multi-parter “Bad Man’s Song,” were equally impactful. And the transitions from one song to another were so smooth that the audience had barely enough time to applaud for one before another was underway.

The sense of excitement emanating from Orzabal, co-founder Curt Smith, and the rest of the band was understandable on multiple levels. It was the first night of their first tour since 2019, and their first American tour since 2017 (get tickets here ). Then there was the fact that they released their first album of new material in almost two decades earlier this year, the excellent The Tipping Point . And finally, if there was ever a time to “shout” and “let it all out,” it’s now, for better or worse.

At-home listenings of Tears for Fears are rewarding enough. Experienced live, these songs become all the richer, enhanced by moments human (Orzabal’s ad-libs during “Sowing the Seeds of Love”) and more serendipitous (a delicate wind as he sings of how “the breeze blows gently” on “Bad Man’s Song”).

Speaking with Consequence recently, the duo said this set would be their “best one yet.” Maybe someone who saw them tour Songs from the Big Chair in 1985 would disagree. But this wasn’t a “well, at least you got to see them live’” performance; it was impressive without grading on any kind of curve.

Tears for Fears: The Tipping Point World Tour 2022 at MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheatre

Midflorida credit union amphitheatre, tampa, florida.

Tears for Fears are back! The Tipping Point World Tour comes to MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheatre on Friday, June 10th, 2022, with very special guests Garbage. After an extended hiatus of 17 years, Tears For Fears have finally got a new album, due out in February 2022, so you have some time to listen to it before the gig. But get your tickets now, so you don’t miss out on seeing them live, the first single to Tipping Point is out now, and you can already tell that it is going to be incredible!

“We couldn’t be more excited to start playing concerts again. We’ve missed seeing our friends on the road around the world and the energy of performing live,” Tears for Fears’ Curt Smith said in a press release. Roland Orzabal added, “The Tipping Point has been a long time in the making, and we are looking forward to playing our favorites from the new album as well as our classics from throughout the years.”

The Tipping Point, is Tears for Fears’ first album since their 2004 album, Everybody Loves a Happy Ending, and is due out February 2021. Tears For Fears was formed by Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith in Bath, England, in 1981. Their debut album, The Hurting, came out in 1983 and reached number 1 on the UK Albums Chart, and they followed it with the album, Songs from the Big Chair, in 1985, with the number 1 hit singles "Shout" and "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" which won the Brit Award for Best British Single in 1986. The album also hit number 1 on the Billboard 200 and went multi-platinum in both the UK and the US.

All the way from Madison, Wisconsin, Garbage is Scottish singer Shirley Manson and guitarist, bassist and keyboardist Duke Erikson, guitarist and keyboardist Steve Marker, and drummer Butch Vig. Their seventh studio album, No Gods No Masters, was released in June 2021. "This is our seventh record, the significant numerology of which affected the DNA of its content: the seven virtues, the seven sorrows, and the seven deadly sins," singer Shirley Manson explained, describing No Gods No Masters as "a critique of the rise of capitalist short-sightedness, racism, sexism and misogyny across the world."

Philadelphia! Don't miss British pop legends Tears For Fears at TD Pavilion at the Mann on June 21 with special guest Garbage.

Some forty years into one of music’s most impactful, sometimes tense, and yet curiously enduring partnerships, Tears For Fears have finally arrived together at The Tipping Point – the group’s ambitious, accomplished, and surprising first new studio album in nearly two decades.

And now, at very long last, Tears For Fears find themselves back in peak form at The Tipping Point , an inspired song cycle that speaks powerfully and artfully to our present tense. This is an album that vividly recalls the depth and emotional force of the group’s earliest triumphs. Imagine a far more outward-looking take on Tears For Fears' famously introspective 1983 debut album The Hurting set in an even more mad world, or 1985’s Songs From The Big Chair bravely confronting even bigger issues in our increasingly unruly world. Or even 1989’s The Seeds Of Love that sows a mix of love and other emotions.  The Tipping Point is the bold, beautiful, and powerful sound of Tears For Fears finding themselves together all over again.

Tickets are on sale now via  Ticketmaster.com ,  (800) 982-2787, or the  Mann Box Office .  Fast lane and premier parking upgrades are available for this show.

November 12th, 2021 – Today, the legendary duo Tears For Fears have announced UK tour dates in support of the forthcoming release of their first new studio album in nearly two decades, THE TIPPING POINT, which is released 25th February. Tickets on sale now.

As part of The Tipping Point World Tour the band will be touring the UK in July 2022 with special guest Alison Moyet, including Utilita Arena Newcastle on the 7th July 2022. Fans who pre-order The Tipping Point from the band’s official store will be eligible for an exclusive ticket pre-order from the 17th November, two days before the tickets go on general sale.

Also on sale from the band’s official store as of this Friday is an exclusive limited edition PINK vinyl version of The Tipping Point.

Speaking about going back out on the road Curt Smith said, “We couldn’t be more excited to start playing concerts again. We’ve missed seeing our friends on the road around the world and the energy of performing live.” Roland Orzabal shared “The Tipping Point has been a long time in the making and we are looking forward to playing our favourites from the new album as well as our classics from throughout the years.”

Arriving on the 25th February The Tipping Point is the band’s first album since their reunion album Everybody Loves A Happy Ending in 2004. Since then, the band have toured extensively, including a sold-out UK arena tour and in 2017 released Rule The World, a best-of compilation that returned the band to upper reaches of the album charts once more. In September of 2022 the band were honored with the Outstanding Song Collection Award at the 2021 Ivor Novello Awards.

When asked why make The Tipping Point now? Roland Orzabal says, “Before everything went so right with this album, everything first had to go wrong, it took years, but something happens when we put our heads together. We’ve got this balance, this push-me-pull-you thing – and it works really well.” Curt Smith agrees, “If that balance doesn’t work on a Tears For Fears album, the whole thing just doesn’t work. To put it in simple terms, a Tears For Fears record and what people perceive to be the sound of Tears For Fears – is the stuff we can both agree on.”

Tears For Fears were one of the most iconic bands of the ‘80s, selling over 30 million albums worldwide with singles such as “Shout,” “Everybody Wants To Rule The World,” “Mad World,” “Sowing The Seeds Of Love,” and “Woman In Chains” acknowledged as classics.

The Tipping Point is the bold, beautiful and powerful sound of Tears For Fears finding themselves together, once again.
