Tori Kelly Sets Fall Tour Dates

Tickets will go on sale to the general public on Thursday, August 17, 2023, at 9 AM local time.

two-time GRAMMY® Award-winning multi-platinum artist Tori Kelly announces her much-anticipated Take Control Tour in North America in support of her acclaimed new EP tori.  

The intimate nine-date trek will take Tori Kelly across North America and begins on September 10, 2023, at The Axis Club in Toronto, Ontario. It will hit New York City, Boston, Atlanta, Chicago, Denver, and San Francisco, before wrapping with two nights in Los Angeles, CA on September 25-26. See full routing below.

Tickets will go on sale to the general public on Thursday, August 17, 2023, at 9 AM local time. Fans can go here to purchase tickets. A special pre-sale will be available tomorrow, August 16 at 9 AM local time, where fans can use the code purpleskies for early access. 

On the tour, Tori Kelly will highlight her powerhouse vocal talent, instrumental prowess, and highly magnetic stage presence. Most importantly, it will showcase her newest body of work, the tori EP, live for the first time as an intimate and extra special experience for fans. Released at the end of July, the seven-track project is Kelly’s first since 2020 and shows at her most authentic, confident, and charismatic.  

Billboard proclaimed that the EP “makes clear she’s at her most self-assured,” while Uproxx highlighted “cut” as “one of the best pop songs of the week.” VIBE described the project as where she “embraces all of who she is as an artist, woman, and writer,” while American Songwriter exclaimed that “The seven-track EP illustrates some of Kelly’s most empowered songs to date.” 

Ahead of announcing the tour, Tori Kelly recently gave fans a sneak-peak at what to expect on the road with exclusive live performances for VEVO of three songs from the EP, including “shelter,” “alive if I die,” and “missin u – r&b edit.” Last week Kelly shared the latest official visuals from the album, with the show-stopping and slick music video for EP highlight “cut.”

With tori, one of music's greatest talents is poised to soar to new heights, carried by a collection of new songs that absolutely demand to be heard.

Tori Kelly will be hitting the road this fall. Just weeks after her hospitalization following a health scare, the Grammy-winning singer took to social media on Tuesday (Aug. 15) to announce that she will be going on tour starting next month.

“It’s been too long! the #takecontroltour is here,” Kelly said, sharing a tour poster along with the list of dates for the trek.

Fans in the comments section expressed excitement for the singer getting back on the road and begged for additional dates and cities, while others expressed concern for her health. “She just had a major health scare so stop harassing her about not doing more dates/ not coming to your city!” one Instagram user commented.

The  American Idol  alum was  reportedly rushed to the hospital  in July while out to dinner in Los Angeles with friends.

Kelly addressed the health scare in a note shared to her Instagram on Aug. 1, and wrote, “Hi friends…As you may have heard, I’m dealing with some unexpected health challenges. It’s been a scary few days but I can feel your prayers & can’t stop thinking about you. I’m feeling stronger now & hopeful but unfortunately there are still some things to uncover. I’m so grateful for the amazing doctors & nurses who have been looking after me.”

SNYDE | How Tori Kelly’s ‘crazy’ blood clot health scare influenced new album (EXCLUSIVE)

Tori Kelly is back with a new album, tour, and “feel good” music after a recent health scare landed her in the hospital.

Last Friday, the Grammy winner released her new self titled album “TORI” , which shesays was in part influenced by her “crazy” medical emergency.

“I had this crazy health scare back in July. And so that was like a whirlwind,” Kelly told the Daily News. “This happened so suddenly and was super scary for myself, and my friends and family. Everyone was like, ‘What in the world?’ Thankfully, I had these incredible doctors.”

After completing the album last summer, the singer-songwriter says the unexpected hospitalization was an “overwhelming time” that inspired her to write her new single “high water.”

“That song is so layered for me,” she told The News. “I’m really diving deep into this harder place, and coming out on the other side of it with hope. And I think I decided to name [the album] ‘TORI’ for that very reason.”

She added, “That health scare really prompted me to write a song that I would have wanted to listen to while I was going through that hard time.”

In July of 2023, the “Dear No One” singer collapsed at dinner and was rushed to the hospital where doctors discovered blood clots around her lungs and in her legs.

It came as a shock to Kelly, who still doesn’t quite know what caused it.

“The doctors didn’t necessarily know why. All I know now is that I’m feeling great and healthy and on the other side of it.”

Thankfully, Kelly had a speedy recovery and says she’s just “grateful for life.” The “Nobody love” singer feels “amazing” and says fans can expect a “burst of energy” on her North American concert tour , which begins on Apr. 12 in Ventura, Calif. and features a stop in NYC on Oct. 16.

“While I was in the studio, I was already picturing the live versions of all the songs. I’ve just been ready to hit the road. I think it’s a lot more energy than my previous tours.”

As for her health scare’s impact on her personal life. Kelly says, “I think I’m really trying to live in the moment more and not take anything or anyone for granted. I think I’m holding my people a little closer.”

She added: “Life is life is fragile, you know? There’s certain things we really don’t have control over. And I just want to make sure I’m living in a way that I can I can look back and be proud of it.”

Tori Kelly Reflects on 2023 Health Scare and How It Made Her Realize Life 'Is So Fragile' (Exclusive)

The Grammy winner opens up to PEOPLE about her 2023 hospitalization and how the experience helped shape her new self-titled album

Tori Kelly was gearing up to release an EP when she was unexpectedly hospitalized for life-threatening blood clots in July 2023 . Immediately after the harrowing experience, however, she was ready to jump right back into a hectic work schedule.

"That moment was so surreal," the Grammy winner, 31, tells PEOPLE, noting that she had a busy day of interviews the next day. "I'm in the hospital and I just remember saying to everyone, 'Hey, I'm getting out of here, right? I got stuff to do. My EP is coming out in a few days.' They were like, 'Probably not. We need to keep you here, make sure you're good.'"

Luckily, Kelly's recovery was quick. The EP release continued as planned, and she embarked on a North American tour — her first post-pandemic concerts — less than three weeks later. After all, she was in the midst of introducing fans to her new, Y2K-inspired pop-R&B sound, which culminates in her fifth album, TORI. , released Friday, April 5.

"I really thought the album was done even before the EP came out," says Kelly, who's married to basketball player and coach André Murillo. "Then, the health scare happened, and I was like, 'Hold up. I definitely feel like there's another song or two brewing.'"

The new album's creation began "mentally" for Kelly in 2020, shortly after she had to cancel a tour due to the COVID-19 pandemic's onset. Having completed her previous recording contract with Capitol Records, she was free to dream up the next phase of her career and got in the studio with hitmaker Jon Bellion to began making new songs in 2021.

"One of the coolest things is we made all of this music without a team. It was just me, my vision and going in the studio, pouring my heart into these songs. And Jon, of course, too, helping me with all of that," recalls the singer, who was grateful to find collaborators who didn't mind working without a record company backing the project. "It was kind of like, 'Hey, at some point I'll be able to pay all of y'all.'"

Inspired by artists like TLC and Aaliyah , whom she loved as a child, Kelly quickly found herself creating music with a sound quite drastically different from the acoustic pop in which she launched her career on American Idol and YouTube as a teenager. Once the album was completed — or so she thought — the musician partnered with Epic Records for its release and decided to ease fans into her new era with a seven-song EP.

"I decided to put out the EP first as a way to give people a taste of what this new era even is, because it is a big departure in some ways. My look is different. I'm back to my natural hair color," she explains. "It also allowed me to go on a tour, which I was craving so bad."

Following the health scare, continuing with the tour was extremely important to Kelly, who was able to get the "green light" from her doctors. "I was really paying attention to how I felt too, and being really careful," she says. "I was like, 'No one's going to take this away from me,' and just to see the fans in person, these same people who were praying for me and sending me so much love, it was an emotional tour."

Upon wrapping the string of concerts, she called Bellion back up for another set of studio sessions and wrote "High Water," a heartfelt ballad about trusting the future when times are tough.

"I was able to really process what had happened, and I am a late processor," she details. "I think it helps me in my songwriting though, because I'm able to think back and be like, 'Oh, that's how I felt. OK, let me channel that feeling.'"

Kelly also wrote the autobiographical album closer "Same Girl," which chronicles her development as an artist and acts as a response to fans who may have been jarred by the sonic and visual changes to her artistry.

"It's my way of being like, 'It's OK to have fun and explore,' and that's what being an artist is. You're expressing yourself," she says of the track. "At the end of the day, I'm kind of grounding myself again and reminding myself that you're still you at the end of the day."

Between creative and personal developments, making TORI. was quite a vulnerable experience for Kelly. Now, she's able to process the immense growth she's had since auditioning for American Idol at 16.

"I felt like I had so much to prove, and I thought I was trying to prove it to everyone else, to the world. But really, I think I needed to prove it to myself," she says. "It doesn't matter what people think as long as you feel confident. I feel like in some ways I'm just now stepping into that confidence and really taking ownership."

With the album now in fans' hands, Kelly's excited to see their reactions — and then perform its songs live for them on her upcoming Purple Skies Tour. Health-wise, she's feeling "amazing" and taking only "a simple medication" to stay well, while "going in for checkups" occasionally to ensure she's fine.

The health scare's biggest impact on her life today? She feels more gratitude than ever before. "When I look at just my life, my career and getting to go on these tours, I'm just like, 'I don't want to take anything for granted because life as I now have experienced is so fragile,'" she says. "I'm just holding people a little closer."

Kelly's also placed more of an emphasis on making sure her artistic output matches exactly how she wants to express herself. "I'm such a perfectionist now, even more like, 'OK, this has to be perfect, that outfit's not right, or the vision isn't there,'" she adds. "It's a blessing and a curse because I'll stay up late at night thinking about these things, but I'm just happy that I can finally release it and let it do its thing in the world."
