KUWAIT TOURS – GROUP TOURS TO KUWAIT

YPT have been organizing group tours to Kuwait since 2018, when we first entered Saudi Arabia. These Kuwaiti Group Tours are usually combined with Saudi, but can be done as standalone, or combined with other destinations (see below).

Independent Kuwait Tour Itinerary

With Kuwait fascinating ancient history from Mesopotamia to Alexander the Great conquests to its recent time with the Iraqi Invasion and its mega cities from its lucrative oil rich resources – there’s so much to see and do in Kuwait.

YPT can create a unique experience for you or your group in Kuwait see our example Kuwait itinerary;

Day 1 – Kuwait City

• Arrival into Kuwait City, we can arrange to collect you at the airport.
• Head out for a stroll near the harbour for dinner and discuss your personalised itinerary.
• Overnight at hotel

Day 2 – Failaka Island

• Breakfast at hotel and pick up in our private transport to the ferry dock
• 9:00am departure on ferry for an hour cruising along the harbour front of Kuwait before reaching the forgotten Failaka island
• Visit the Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Palace – the eleventh ruler of Kuwait, built out of sea rocks and mud. Portraits of all the former rulers of Kuwait are displayed in the majestic foyer.
• We’ll then head to the location where the Failaka battle took place
• Explore around an old resort on the island damaged during the war and completely abandoned
• We’ll have lunch on the island at a nearby café.
• Visit what remains of the former Bank al Watani – one of the most war damaged yet standing buildings on the island.
• Head to the tank graveyard. Discarded Soviet tanks, APCs, artilleries, military trucks and vehicles left behind by Saddam’s military.
• Drop by the heritage village to see how villagers lived on the island before the invasion.
• Board the 4:00pm ferry back to mainland and dropped off at hotel.
• Head out downtown for dinner.
• Overnight at hotel.

Day 3 – Kuwait City

• Our first stop of the day is Kuwait’s Grand Mosque – a dress code is required for women visiting which can be borrowed from the gatehouse. This enormous mosque is fairly unique in the region for its Andalusian architectural influence.
• Visit Sadu House – a traditional Bedouin Kuwaiti house and culture.
• Visit the National Museum which houses the knowledge of the Arabian Peninsula, the geography, history and civilization.
• Stop by the Al-Qalalif Diwaniyah – the most important craft and profession in Kuwait of the past, manufacturing wooden sailing ships. This was taught down by generations. With over 450 members, most of whom are elderly.
• Lunch in the city
• Visit the must-see museum of Kuwait, which is not for the faint-hearted, the Al-Qurain Martyrs House which depicts the Iraqi invasion during the Gulf War. One of the documents on display is an official order found in an Iraqi vehicle instructing troops to “burn and destroy all homes on which there were slogans hostile to our leadership.”
• Make a special visit to the Ahmad Al Jaber Oil & Gas Exhibition – named after Kuwait’s 10th ruler from 1921 to 1950, it was during his reign that the birth of Kuwait’s oil industry began. The exhibition explains and shows in great detail the formation of oil, to its discovery and all of the ways that oil products are produced today.
• Watch the sunset from the top of Kuwait Towers with great views over the city
• Visit the old Souq Al Mubarakeya – one of the oldest souqs in Kuwait, and was the centre of trade prior to the discovery of oil.
• Explore Kuwait’s central fish market and Dhow Harbour
• Dinner in town

Day 4 – Kuwait City

• Breakfast at hotel
• Tour concludes – YPT can help arrange airport transfers or travel to your next destination.

Kuwait Food

When you travel to Kuwait, you want to know more about it, to explore its culture and history, taste the food locals eat, go to the places locals go, see how they live, or in other words, you want to feel what it is like to be local. Food Tours are a vehicle for a city’s culture. What locals eat, when, where and how much is a window into their every day and therefore, into the country’s way of life.

Several museums in Kuwait showcase the country’s history, its art, artifacts, archeological findings and even information on the Gulf War. However, there is one exceptional museum that stands out for its depiction of the exquisiteness and custom encompassed in Bedouin crafts, namely Sadu weaving. The Sadu House is a beautiful, traditional Kuwaiti styled house where visitors can discover the Bedouin art of weaving, its styles and history. Located right next to the National Museum of Kuwait on the Gulf Road, Bait Al Sadu (Sadu House) was formerly an old Kuwaiti house that’s been converted into a cultural center.

Souk Al-Mubarakiya

It is one of the oldest souqs in Kuwait, and was the center of trade prior to the discovery of oil. You can spend hours in this market strolling around and discovering reasonable bargains on heritage goods such as Persian silk carpets, real Arab antiques, perfumes like musk and oud, and traditional costumes. This place is perfect whether you want to shop, eat, or for sightseeing. Al-Mubarakiya features a variety of shops such as dates, honey, spices, sweets, vegetables, fruits, meat, and fish. In addition to a range of shops accessories, gold and silver jewelries. The market also hosts two mini museums: Sheikh Mubarak Kiosk and the first Islamic pharmacy in Kuwait

Grand Mosque

The Grand Mosque is the biggest and the official Mosque of Kuwait which means that official religious celebrations are held in this mosque only. Locals refer to it as Al-Masjid Al-Kabir with total area of 46,000 square meters (490,000 sq ft), in that the building itself covers 20,000 square meters (220,000 sq ft). The Grand mosque is internationally renowned for its Islamic architecture and it has become one of Kuwait's most treasured landmarks. Indeed, the builders and designers have put a lot of effort in creating this mosque starting the project way back in 1979 and finally completing it seven years later in 1986 at a cost of about KD 14 million. Grand Mosque is popular for its prayer arrangement during the last 10 days of Ramadan. Thousands of Muslims gather during last 10 days of Ramadan.

Kuwait Towers

Kuwait Towers is a group of three slender towers that symbolizes Kuwait’s economic resurgence and also World cultural as well as touristic landmark. The structure is often referred to as Kuwait tower in singular although there are three towers. Standing on a promontory into the Arabian Gulf, Kuwait towers were officially inaugurated in 1979 and are rated as a tourist attraction and iconic building of modern Kuwait.o hosts two mini museums: Sheikh Mubarak Kiosk and the first Islamic pharmacy in Kuwait

Alseif Palace

The Seif Palace is popular among local and overseas visitors as the home of the royal family. Nevertheless, they might be surprised to find out that this palace does not get much used by the Monarch and the government. While it is true that this palace is designated to the Emir dynasty, the household personally chose to stay in Bayan Palace which is known as the official house of the Emir and this is also the place where the monarch would entertain his dignitaries. Therefore, the Seif palace only serves as the court if there are special celebrations and events, or if the Bayan Palace is not available. However, thousands of travelers every year go to see this fine building.

Ahmad Al-Jaber Oil & Gas Exhibition

The Ahmad Al-Jaber Oil & Gas Exhibition plays an important role for KOC by telling the history of oil, both in the State of Kuwait and throughout the world. From the formation of oil to its discovery and all of the ways that oil products help, make our lives better. The exhibition serves to answer any questions the public may have about oil and gas and the important functions they play in our modern lives.The original Display Center in Ahmadi has played a very important role in the history of Kuwait Oil Company. For decades, delegations from around the world were taken to the Display Center as part of their visit to KOC. In addition to being an excellent source of information for matters related to the oil industry, the original Display Center has been a source of great pride for the Company, for it is where the public could come to learn about the important role KOC plays for the State of Kuwait.

Al Qurain Martyrs Museum

The Al-Qurain Martyrs' Museum exists of three neighboring villas. On 24 February 1991, 19 young Kuwaiti men from the "Messila" resistance group had armed themselves and were preparing a strike against the invading Iraqi army. While the men were discussing their plan, an Iraqi patrol unit was in the area and eventually checked on one of the three houses in which the resistance group congregated. The two sides then engaged in a ten-hour battle. Heavily outnumbered and underarmed, the Kuwaiti men were eventually defeated by Iraqi tanks and soldiers. Of the nineteen men, seven were severely wounded and twelve died.

Al Shaheed Park

Al Shaheed park, located on the periphery of Kuwait city, narrates the story of a land, its history and culture. The park consists of 200,000 m2 of greenery, featuring beautiful botanical gardens, two museums - Thekra & the Habitat, a visitor center, a lake, walkways and jogging tracks, making it the largest urban park in Kuwait.By visiting the Habitat - a museum dedicated to the environment and bird migration in Kuwait, the visitors learn more about the different ecosystems, migratory birds and the effects of pollution through interactive learning stations. In addition to the museum, a Bird Aviary was built outside of the Habitat to provide a resting area for the numerous migrating birds in Kuwait. By doing so, visitors also get a chance to view these different kinds of birds as they stop by to rest during their journey. 

Sheikh Jaber Al Ahmad Cultural Center

The Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmed Cultural Centre is a multidisciplinary public space striving to entertain, educate and inspire the people of Kuwait. It will offer a range of events – in music, theatre, film, workshops and spoken word – for every generation and sector of society.Complex, geometric forms inspired by Islamic architecture form the richly textured outer skin of each building of the Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmed Cultural Center, creating dramatic public spaces below that are illuminated by the interaction of light and shadow. Luxurious, world class buildings below the outer skin exude character and drama, inviting passers-by to wander its majestic space. The wonders continue inside each building and visitors will find jewels within jewels as they explore the beautifully designed interiors.

Deep Sea Fishing in Arabian Gulf

Deep Sea Fishing is one of the most popular outdoor things to do in Kuwait City, especially for those who love to be out on the water and adventure. Fish for flounder, fluke, striped bass, bluefish, porgy, blackfish, and even weakfish.A fishing trip acts as a great stress buster, enabling you to escape your routine pressures while enjoying fresh air amid spectacular new scenery. Although it's a relatively gentle outdoor pursuit, fishing helps burn up calories and keeps fitness levels up.

Failaka Island

Failaka Island is one among the most visited tourist destinations in Kuwait. Located along the northern part of Arabian Gulf, and located 20kms away from Kuwait City, and situated opposite to the Failaka Bay, the area covers 24 square kilometers of area, and is one of the most important islands in Kuwait. Failaka Island is among the major tourist attractions in Kuwait, and is linked to Kuwait City through submarine pipeline that supplies water to inhabitants of Failaka. Failaka is a magnificent island that easily blends ancient history of Kuwait with gleaming modernity.  The spring season is the best time to visit the Island it is said, due to the gentle breeze, budding flowers, vibrant flora, changing temperature and pleasant weather conditions. Failaka Island has been much developed as a tourist spot, as it offers fishing, boating, sailing, swimming and water sports.There are Arabian horses, camels in Failaka Stables, and visitors can spend some time riding them.

The Heritage Village

The heritage village was established which concerned with popular inherited of Kuwait and the folklore in the gulf cooperation council where 6 museums established for each state of cooperation council and each state has its offer to present its arts and heritage that highlight the features of popular traditions of each state . in addition to the historical monuments ‘ handicrafts and folk arts there are horse ‘camels ‘sheep and hawks competitions also there is archery competitions and popular games. The village located in North West Kuwait at the border with Saudi Arabia about 2 hrs drive from Kuwait City.

The building of the fort started one year after the accession of Sheikh Mubarak Al-Sabah as seventh ruler of Kuwait in 1897. Its primary purpose was the defense of agriculture in Al-Jahra. The fort was the location of the Battle of Jahra in 1920.The four towers are built with bricks made from mud mixed with local desert shrubs. The towers were designed to give infantrymen a view and line of fire in all directions. The walls around the fort house firing holes for infantrymen and sharpshooters. The fort is almost square, surrounded by a wall about 15 feet high and 2 feet thick, and houses thirty-three rooms and six courtyards.

Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Cultural Center

Established to be one of the world’s largest cultural projects, Sheikh Abdullah Al Salem Cultural Centre comprises Natural History Museum, Science and Technology Museum, Arabic Islamic Science Museum, Space Museum, Fine Arts Centre, and Theatre. The Centre was named after one of the most inspiring leaders in Kuwait’s modern history, the late Amir Sheikh Abdullah Al Salem.

The Scientific Center

Serves as a center for environmental education of the Arabian Gulf. KSC spans over 80,000 square meters with the building covering over 18,000 square meters. The center also houses the largest aquarium in the Middle East after Dubai, holding over 100 different species of animals. Along with the aquarium, it also contains an IMAX theatre, a harbor of historic dhows, and a gift shop among other contents.

Kuwait National Museum

The Kuwait National Museum is a true representation of the Kuwaiti heritage and it is located on the Arabian Gulf Street between the Seif Palace and National Assembly. Designed by French architect Michel Ecochard, visitors can enjoy this historical museum, which represent the Kuwaiti life in the past, their everyday activities, the rich trading history of Kuwait and its traditions.  The museum consists of five buildings built around a central garden; this is similar to the architectural plan of the vernacular Arab mud house which has a central courtyard. The National Museum also exhibits the wonderful art collection by the Al-Sabah dynasty.

Bait Al-Othman museum

Bait Al-Othman museum is dedicated to the history and culture of Kuwait from the pre-oil era to present time. The museum hosts numerous historical items and antiques of pre-oil Kuwait. Housh (courtyard), diwaniyas, muqallatt, kitchen, living room, master’s bedroom and visitors’ room can all be seen. There are mini museums within the museum such as the Kuwait Drama Museum,Kuwait House Museum, Heritage Hall, Kuwaiti Souq, and Journey of Life Museum.

Meander along Youm albahar, an old road today used as a marketplace and a venue for all kinds of events and festivals. Mingle with hundreds of locals and tourists, and experience the authentic atmosphere of one of the most prominent sites in Kuwait City. Visit the handful of small museums, where you can learn about the country’s history, or simply enjoy yourself in one of the restaurants or cafes, tasting the local fast food and drinks. The site represents a great place for buying souvenirs and gifts from local artisans and craftsmen, who sell their works in quaint stalls across the market.

Dickson House

The British Political Agency in Kuwait was based in a house that had been built in 1870 for a Kuwaiti merchant. The Dicksons moved into the house in 1929, and the building served as the British political agency until 1935. Dickson lived there until his death in 1959 and Dame Violet until the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in 1990, when she was evacuated to Britain. Dame Violet died before the liberation of Kuwait. The house was ransacked during the invasion, but has since been restored by the Kuwaiti National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters, and is now a tourist attraction. It is one of few surviving examples of nineteenth century Kuwaiti architecture, with thirty rooms on two floors

Visiting Kuwait: A Travel Guide for First Timers

Thinking of traveling to the Middle East but don’t know where to go? Think no more. I have the perfect destination for you and that is Kuwait. Kuwait may not be on your bucket list of travel destinations but the country is worth visiting.

In this article, I’ll tell you a few things you should know about Kuwait and then you can decide if you want to plan a trip to this tiny country which borders Iraq and Saudi Arabia.

What Are Some Key Facts About Kuwait?

Kuwait is a Muslim country in the Persian Gulf. The nation is oil-rich having 10% of the world’s oil reserves. They sell over 60% of their oil to Asian countries and their economy is largely petroleum based. The country’s currency the Kuwaiti Dinar is the world’s highest-valued currency.

You may know Kuwait mostly because of the 1990 Gulf War. The war started after the invasion of the country by the Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein, who wanted Kuwaiti’s oil, caused instability in the country.

However, Kuwait has moved on since the war and is now stable and peaceful for you to visit.  A clear indication of the country’s stability is that 70% of the population is made up of expatriates. With a population of 4.25 million people, the number of Kuwaitis is only slightly over one million.

Majority of the population lives in the Capital which is Kuwait City and most enjoy a high standard of life given that Kuwait is a wealthy country.

What Do You Need to Travel To Kuwait?

They are two crucial documents required for you to be allowed into Kuwait. A valid passport and a Kuwait visa.

For example, the Kuwait visa requirements for Indian citizens traveling to Kuwait are: • You must have an Indian passport which is valid for at least 6 months upon arrival in Kuwait. • An approved Kuwait eVisa. You can apply for your visa online. The process takes less than 10 minutes. All you need to do is fill an online visa application form with your personal and passport details, plus information about your trip to Kuwait. Once you submit the form and everything checks out your visa will be sent to you in a few hours by email.

Nationals from the USA, Canada, Australia and the EU can also get a visa on arrival. I recommend checking in advance the requirements for your passport.

Best Things To Do in Kuwait

Kuwait has several tourist attractions that you’ll enjoy visiting. I will list for you some of the top attractions you must visit when you travel there.

Al Hamra – Located in Kuwait  City this the tallest tower in Kuwait and the 15th tallest sculpted tower in the world. The tower which took six years to construct has 80 floors and from it, you can get an amazing aerial view of Kuwait.

Liberation Tower – After Al Hamra, this is the second tallest building in Kuwait. On a clear day atop the tower, you can see the whole of Kuwait. The tower also has a revolving restaurant from which you can sample some Kuwaiti cuisine as you enjoy your view.

The Grand Mosque – This is the largest mosque in Kuwait. If you want to learn more about the nation’s Muslim religion take one of the daily tours at the mosque. The Grand Mosque is also beautifully built and you can go admire its architecture.

Failaka Island – The Gulf War came with a lot of destruction. On this island which is 20 km east of Kuwait City the effects of wars can be seen. Homes, office, hospitals, etc. destroyed during the war have not been rebuilt. Failaka Island gives you a first-hand experience of what war does to a country. The island which was once inhabited is abandoned now. On the island, you can also visit archaeological sites that date back to the Bronze Age.

Kuwaiti Desert – A visit to Kuwait would be incomplete without a trip to the desert. Activities you can do in the desert include camel rides or camping for a night in the desert. If you venture into the desert remember to carry sunscreen, sunglasses, hats and UPF clothing.

Kuwait Beaches – Kuwait has spectacular sandy beaches for you to just chill and soak up some sun. The beaches fall into three categories public beaches, beach parks, and beach clubs. Public beaches are open to all but for beach parks and beach clubs, you will have to pay to access the beach. Beach clubs are more expensive as the offer more luxurious surroundings.

Old Souk/ Mubarakiya – Visit this market if you want to taste some mouth-watering Arabic dishes.

To shop for trip souvenirs head over to the Haraj – the Friday market.

There many other places you can visit in Kuwait like the House of Mirrors and Avenues Mall . You should consider hiring a guide who can take you around Kuwait so that you don’t miss out on its key attractions. Being a small country you can see it all in two or three days.

Key Information to Keep in Mind When Visiting Kuwait

There are some rules you must adhere to if you don’t want to get into trouble when in Kuwait. Let us go to through some of them.

• Possession of alcohol, drugs, pork or pornographic material is illegal. If you’re found with any of this you could get a serious jail term.

• Homosexuality is also illegal in Kuwait. Talking about or displaying homosexual behavior will also land you in jail.

• Public display of affection is frowned upon. Cuddling or kissing in public may not get you as severe a punishment as homosexuality but avoid it. No need to go looking for trouble.

• I’ve heard multiple times that driving in Kuwait is a nightmare. So if you’re thinking of hiring a car and driving yourself around, you might want to rethink it. The safety record on Kuwaiti roads is bad. Drivers over speed, tailgate and generally ignore traffic rules making the number of road accidents high. The traffic on the road is also terrible.

• When it comes to dressing, dress conservatively. For women, tight clothing or revealing clothing may get you some unwanted attention. For men, avoid shorts that are above the knees and sleeveless tops.

• Kuwait may not excite you at first like other countries. However, once you travel to the country and meet its warm people, experience it culture, try their amazing food, tour the museums, shopping malls, and get some rest and relaxation on their beaches you will have a different opinion about the country.

Royal Inn Hotel – This is a budget hotel located in Al Salmiya. It is about twenty minutes away from Kuwait City and is close to the beach. Being in a desert, temperatures in Kuwait are extremely high so you’ll be happy to know this hotel has air-conditioned rooms.

Le Royal – Some of the amenities at this four-star hotel are an outdoor pool and a gym. From the hotel, you can have scenic views of the Gulf state and are offered free Wi-Fi.

The Regency Hotel – If you’re looking for top-notch accommodation in Kuwait the luxurious Regency Hotel will do it for you. This five-star hotel is on a private beach and has several fine dining restaurants you can try out. It is also minutes away from most of Kuwait tourist attractions.

The wonderful tour arranged by Travel on Kuwait. Overall excellent package inclusive of airport pick up and drop, sightseeing and hotel. All the attraction points were wonderful and covered very well. It was an amazing trip; Azerbaijan is a great place to visit. Only hotel location was not good, as no restaurants or shopping close to the hotel.

The tour arranged by Travel on Kuwait is an all inclusive package which I would highly recommend. Overall good service with great hotels, good transportation and worked perfectly as per the itinerary. Definitely would recommend to all.

GCC Unified Visa Named 'GCC Grand Tours' to Launch This Year

A new unified tourism visa for the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region, named "GCC Grand Tours," is set to launch later this year. The visa will allow travelers to visit all six GCC countries, including Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, under one visa.

Facilitating Travel in the GCC

The visa aims to make travel across the GCC region easier and more affordable, increasing tourism throughout the region. Tourists using the visa will be able to spend more than 30 days exploring multiple destinations within the six countries.

Kuwait’s Sheikh Meshal tours Turkey in first non-Arab state visit

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan welcomed Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Meshal al-Ahmad al-Sabah to Ankara on Tuesday, marking the Emir’s first foreign visit to a non-Arab country since assuming office in December 2023.

The visit, which coincided with the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Turkey and Kuwait, aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.

Kuwait-Turkey bilateral trade

Turkey and Kuwait signed six cooperation deals across various fields, including defense and diplomacy, to enhance collaboration between the two nations.

Among the agreements is a protocol on defence procurement aimed at bolstering defence ties between Turkey and Kuwait.

The leaders oversaw the signing of a memorandum of understanding to establish a strategic dialogue between the two countries, reflecting their commitment to deeper diplomatic engagement.

Both nations expressed their intent to increase trade volume to $1bn, with Turkish exports to Kuwait exceeding $583m last year.

Additionally, Kuwait signed a $367m agreement with Baykar, a Turkish drone manufacturer, to purchase TB2 armed drones in 2023.

Direct Kuwaiti investments in Turkey reached $1.5bn in 2024, highlighting the growing economic partnership between the two countries.

The visit underscored the importance of diplomatic ties between Turkey and Kuwait and laid the groundwork for enhanced cooperation in various fields.

The signing of the cooperation deals reflects the commitment of both countries to strengthen their ties across multiple sectors, including defense, trade, and diplomacy.

The visit symbolised a milestone in the longstanding relationship between Turkey and Kuwait, paving the way for deeper collaboration in the years to come.
