To put it simply: it was an adventure. B1A4’s stopover at Manila was an impressive, spazz-worthy two-hour concert that staged their catchiest tracks in full glory over at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on September 6.

B1A4 is a South Korean boy group made up of the leader Jinyoung, the vocalist/rapper CNU, the main vocals Sandeul, rapper Baro and maknae/youngest Gongchan. They are known for creating easygoing tunes infused with streaks of rap, electronic melodies and a touch of ballads.

The third stop for B1A4’s first ever world tour aptly titled as “Road Trip” was none other than Manila. They kicked off their tour in Taiwan and China last August and will proceed to tour Australia and US on the next months. Having made their debut only three years ago, B1A4 is just on the verge of conquering the world with their own brand of K-pop. Of course, any K-pop concert wouldn’t be complete without the extravagant regalia and paraphernalia. For the Road Trip, BANAs (what B1A4 fans are called) were seen lingering outside the gates of the Araneta Coliseum as early as 4PM. You’d easily spot them wearing their green headbands and customized Road Trip tees, and holding the “pastel apple lime green” lightsticks which is the official color of the band. Banners promoting their specific biases were handed out for free by local fanclubs, including a few Chinese and Korean BANAs who flew in just to support the show. The band’s fanbase is mostly composed of teenagers to people in their early 20s.

By the evening, the Big Dome was flocked by thousands of BANAs and K-pop enthusiasts. The stage was extended to the middle of the patron area with an arrow-shaped catwalk, the part around it being the most crowded part in the Dome. At around 8pm, the lights finally dimmed. The video showing the band’s comical planning of their Road Trip marked the beginning of the show.

The boys of B1A4 made their entrance in regal all-white tuxedos, performing their debut song “O.K.” followed by the upbeat “Beautiful Target”. Instantly, the crowd was in an uproar. Screams and fan chants were heard all over the Big Dome.

B1A4 has released 2 full-length studio album and 5 EPs over three years, providing them with an arsenal of tracks to perform during their concert. For their setlist, they chose a balance of slow and bubbly/groovy songs, divided into distinctive segments throughout the evening. There was the dreamy melodies of “나쁜 짓 안 할게요 (Wouldn’t Do Bad Things)”, 너 때문에(Because of You) and “Seoul”. This was followed by the solemn, stripped down rendition of the ballads “걸어 본다 (Tried to Walk)” and “This Time Is Over” . With Jinyoung playing the guitar, there was also the acoustic set containing a cover of “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door”, “Wonderful Tonight” and “내가 뭐가 돼 (You Make Me a Fool)” The peak of the concert was when they performed their latest hit makers/most infectious songs, “Lonely (없구나)” and “Solo Day”.

There was a short break after, wherein the members traded their white tux to their stylish, casual attires, With it, a bigger surprise: they chose one member of the SVIP crowd to climb up on stage. The lucky fan got to be serenaded very closely by the five members with the romantic “쮸쮸쮸(Chu chu chu)” which is the Korean onomatopoeia for kisses.

As a five-member group, the concert also did well in highlighting each member’s talent and personality. Jinyoung, the leader, stands out due to his overflowing energy on stage. It’s admirable how he has composed a great number of the band’s songs with lyrics that reflect a mature state of mind. CNU, the eldest member, is a stunning presence onstage with graceful composure as he danced and sang. Also worth noting is his flexibility as a rapper and singer, plus songwriter. Then there’s Sandeul. Besides his completely amazing vocals, he is also the bubbliest among the group. He appears to be the friendliest, laughing easily at the simplest things. Baro has gotten a lot of global exposure due to his role as Binggrae, an indecisive and shy university student in the hit drama “Reply 1994” and more recently in his challenging role as a developmentally disabled teenager in “God’s Gift – 14 days”. On stage, he’s an exceptional rapper with his fascinating baritone voice. Gongchan is the youngest member of the group. Aside from being dubbed the “visual” of the group, he is also good at connecting with the audience. All together, they were able to win the Filipino crowd of BANAs including a whole lot of new supporters.

The crowd’s fervor was palpable during the entire concert as they sang along to“이게 무슨 일이야 (What’s Going On)”, “물 한잔 (Glass of Water)” and “Who Am I”. Their encore songs “In the Air” and “If (너만 있으면)” closed the show in a beautiful note.

Although I’ve been to a few concerts of insanely popular K-pop bands over the years, B1A4 still manages to stand out due to their pure talent as singers/performers. I couldn’t help but notice how the dynamics of the members are so well-blended. Each member of B1A4 displayed his own astounding vocal prowess, with Sandeul being the most distinguished for hitting the high notes smoothly. It is also worth mentioning that the band deserves a million extra points for having a live band back them up and being “completely live” during the entire concert. The choreography of their songs along with the concept of the sets was simple, but nonetheless eye-catching.

In the span of their three-year career, B1A4 has managed to create a wide catalog of songs that are both catchy and meaningful by infusing elements of pop, rap, electronic and ballads. The only thing that’s sort of missing during their concert was the solo stage for each member. It would have been nice to see them perform their solo songs in the albums. Also, I would have wanted to hear more chatter from them in between songs. But I guess, there’s still time for that in the future. It has only been 3 years since this band debuted. In such a short time they have proven themselves as capable songwriters and singers. We can only expect them to get better as they go along. B1A4’s Road Trip to Manila was an adventure, one that the Filipino crowd was glad to have explored. Hopefully, in their next tour, they will be making another stopover in Manila, too.

[RELIVE IT] B1A4 Road Trip Tour in New York!

Once on stage, the first thing I noticed was that B1A4 had brought a live band to their concert. Now, I've been to a lot of K-pop concerts, in both Korea and in America but this is the first time I saw an idol group bring a live band to their solo concerts, especially out of the country. It was pretty cool to see, and it just added on to the quality of their stages.

The boys kicked off the night with their debut song " O.K ", which was the perfect song to get New York BANAs into the mood of the concert. Following the upbeat song was yet another upbeat one, the ever-so-loved " Beautiful Target ", where the boys zoomed into hearts like rockets with their trademark dance.

B1A4 took a short break here to greet their fans and say hello. The boys must have practiced their English a lot, especially CNU �and Baro , because they had no problems communicating with the audience on what they were feeling. From time to time, there was a translator being used, but mostly Baro was able to get across what he meant, even though he kept yelling "GOOD JOB!" most of the time.

After the first comment break, they moved on to " I Won't Do Bad Things ", which really showed how great their vocals are. Sandeul �especially killed it with his parts, and CNU �also showed off his own talents at performing live as well. " Oh My God " was up next, and the boys brought on their full on sexy with fedoras, bringing the crowd to scream on top of their lungs.� " Because of You " came afterward, and then the boys took another break to talk to their fans again.

B1A4 brought on Seoul's night view with their song " Seoul ", where they performed with standing mics. " Try to Walk " came next. Instead of the usual choreography for the dance, the boys slowed down the song and brought out chairs to sing a more melancholy version of the song, putting in all their emotions into the rendering. " This Time is Over " came up next, another melancholy song that the boys poured their emotions into.

During the next comment break, CNU and Baro had a bit of fun, where CNU spontaneously broke into " Drive " without any background tracks, and Baro backed him up with beatboxing. But fans were in for even more of a treat, because Jinyoung �had brought out his guitar and gifted their fans with Bob Dylan 's " Knockin' On Heaven's Door "! And for us fans who wanted to hear B1A4 perform one of their songs on the guitar, the boys had " Wonderful Tonight " prepared.

Jinyoung put his guitar aside for " You Make Me a Fool ", and the boys came up closer to their fans for " Amazing ". They took another talk break where Baro kept telling BANAs that they were amazing. " Lonely " came up next with the sexy neck scarf dance, and the boys moved right on to their most recent hit " Solo Day ", which was probably the best received night of the song that everyone in the crowd knew the lyrics to, from start to finish.

The boys went backstage to change outfits, and fans got a treat for Baro to pretend one of the fans in the crowd was his girlfriend for their " Chu Chu Chu " stage! She became the target of envy for everyone in the crowd as she was brought onto stage and the boys hugged her (Baro even sat on her lap), and even gave her a teddy bear to take back. Continuing on with the sweet mood, " Pretty " came next, and Jinyoung told BANAs in the talk afterward that he'd written the song thinking only of BANAs.

" What's Going On? " came up next, where the boys had way too much fun on stage making funny expressions. " A Glass of Water " continued on the fun mood, and the boys just jumped around and had fun throughout the entire stage, jumping around and interacting with fans. Each and every single one of them had a truckload of fanservice for the fans, making hearts and pointing to fans.

B1A4 then taught the crowds a simple ' bbuing-bbuing ' dance for their " Who Am I? " stage. The dance was simple enough for everyone (even people who can't dance like me..) to follow along throughout the song whenever the boys prompted. After, the boys had another comment break, and fans started chanting " Saranghae " to the boys. The boys started doing it back, and then at one point CNU and Baro started having fun again, using the beat of the chant to make up an impromptu rap stage with Baro's beatboxing and CNU's voice.

Following that was " Baby Goodnight ", where the boys bid goodnight to their fans. " You Are My Girl " was the 'last' song of the night, but of course the boys were called for an encore. They came running back onto the stage wearing their official concert shirts, telling fans to put their hands up " In The Air ". Jinyoung �and Gongchan �went into the crowd, taking pictures and handing out little gifts to whoever they could reach.�The concert finished up with " If... ", leaving fans calmed after an amazing concert.

B1A4 Will Stay ‘Youthful’ For ‘Road Trip’ World Tour

Idol group B1A4 is going on a " Road Trip " to visit fans this fall.

The five-member K-pop group will be holding their fourth solo concert in Korea, titled "2014 B1A4 Road Trip to Seoul - Ready?," before continuing with their world tour, according to the Korean publication Osen Entertainment.

B1A4 began their "Road Trip" tour in August with a performance in Taiwan. The popular boy band will be performing at the Jamsil Stadium in Seoul on November 15 and 16.

The upcoming concert will be hosted by WM Entertainment and the music company CJ E&M, and from associates involved in preparing for the group's performance, Korean fans have quite a lot to look forward to for the event in November.

"The Seoul concert will be all-live as the group will be collaborating with a band. Fans should only expect the best," stated an associate for CJ E&M.

Unlike most world tours held by idol groups, B1A4 decided to add concert dates in Korea during the middle of their tour, rather than start off with it. Before they head to Korea, the boys will be performing in the Philippines, Japan, Australia and more during the month of September and October.

B1A4 has been impressing fans as well as industry professionals for already holding four solo concerts only two years after their debut. The boy band set quite a record by holding their first solo concert only 500 days after breaking into the Korean pop scene.

B1A4 has been widely known and loved for their rather youthful, boy-next-door image. The group has been playing with this concept since 2012, even dressing up in what looked like uniforms for their KCON 2014 performance.

"We've never thought about going through a major change. We just want to keep building our career, and we will think about transformation when we need it," explained member Gong Chan during an interview with the fashion magazine @star1.

Kpop group B1A4 takes ‘Road Trip–Ready?’ tour to Manila

The award-winning group is composed of members CNU (vocals, rap), Jinyoung (leader, vocals), Sandeul (main vocals), Baro (main rap), and Gongchan (vocals). They debuted under WM Entertainment late 2011 with their single ‘O.K.’ and have also released albums, EPs and various singles in Korea.

“Road Trip is an unconventional term for a world tour and it has the meaning that they will meet fans from various countries, make memories with music, through which the members and their music will grow mature,” according to the announcement.

The official announcement was released after the group’s fifth mini-album release last July.

“With the title READY?, B1A4 is asking the fans to get ready to enjoy the concert and giving a big excitement to all fans in the world,” the announcement said, earning positive responses and hype from the fans. This is B1A4’s first world tour three years after their debut. Taiwan and Shanghai will be first to experience the tour before it finally reaches Manila this September. But apart from the Asian leg of the tour, the group’s management also announced that B1A4 will extend its road trip to the US and Australia.

B1A4 to Continue Their "Road Trip" in Asia

B1A4 is all set to continue their “ Road Trip ” across Asia! After a successful run in Shanghai last August 31, the group will wrap up the Asia leg of their tour in Manila.

The boys will be having their “Road Trip” concert in the Philippines on September 6. From there, they’ll be moving out of Asia and across the globe.

The group began their “Road Trip” concert series in Taipei last August then moved on to Shanghai, China. The concert series follows after the group’s successful solo concerts in Korea and Japan.

WM Entertainment also recently announced that the boys will be having various stops across the Australia and the US with the US leg of the concert series kicking off this October.
