Rome, paris and barcelona: your way, rome, florence, venice and milan: your way, more about rome.

Only in Rome can you sip cappuccino at a café in front of the Pantheon, buy grapes at a centuries-old market and have an audience with the pope — all in one morning. For a mix of spectacular art, grand history and exuberant street life, no other city comes close. It's no surprise that the food is rich and satisfying. Roman cooking is simple, rustic cuisine, perfected over centuries. Dishes rarely have more than a few ingredients, and meat and fish are most often roasted, baked, or grilled. And did we mention the nightlife? There's a bar for every taste in Rome, from wine bars catering to an eclectic crowd faithfully observing the Roman ritual of the evening aperitif to trendy dance clubs that don't get started until well after midnight.

The main tourist season in Rome starts shortly before Easter (when the greatest number of visitors flock to the city) and runs through October. It's neither too hot nor too cold, there's usually plenty of sun, and the famous Roman sunsets are at their best. In July and August, come if you like, but learn to do as the Romans do — get up and out early, seek shady refuge from early-afternoon heat, take a nap if you can, resume activities in the late afternoon, and stay up late to enjoy the nighttime breeze. During August many shops and restaurants close, and on the August 15 holiday Rome is a ghost town. During the winter months, especially January through March, you have a better chance of getting into the major tourist attractions without having to wait in line.

Top Experiences

Colosseum : This ancient stadium is an iconic landmark of Imperial Rome in the middle of the city. The largest amphitheater ever constructed and still standing today. It was used for public spectacles but fell out of use in Medieval times and has since been partially restored.

Vatican Museum and Sistine Chapel : An immense collection of artworks that eventually lead into the Sistine Chapel. The chapel itself is not overly large and is famous for its ceiling painted by Michelangelo. Don’t forget to take a look into St. Peter’s Basilica which is right next door.

Crypts and Roman Catacombs : These are underground burial chambers of the first Christians created 2,000 years ago, surrounding the city. The tunnels are so extensive that a tour is recommended so you do not become lost.

Food : Cooking classes abound in this city, for you to try your favorite Italian foods such as pasta making, pizza and gelato. However, eating in the sidewalk cafes is just as pleasing if you prefer to leave the cooking to the professionals.

Villa Borghese Gallery and Gardens : This museum started life as a country villa house. The many sculptures by Bernini are a highlight. The gardens surrounding the building create the third largest public park in Rome.

The provided tour was very enjoyable and well planned. The TourRadar team was very helpful and accommodating to our needs. We enjoyed our tour guides knowledge as well as the other tour guides in Venice and The Vatican. A special treat was the Skip-the-Line feature which gave our group quick access into the exhibits.

Discover Italy end Milan Tour

The first day of arrival, the transport was not flexible with the pick up time of airport. Tour guide, Patricia, had no early posted itinerary for tour or introduction, expectation, rules, important information about tour. Left behind tourist under her care during the end of 1st day tour. She was late to start the tour, and never took count of the tourist she had under her care. On the way to Florence, Patricia left behind tourists , and placed them in danger. Luckily, the tourist had the proper connections with other people in tour to help them catch up with bus. The tour guide did not put safety first, and placed tourist under her care at risk. With several tourists complaining about the logistic thinking for the tour guide, Europamundo was able to switch all the non-spanish speaking tourist to new tour guide, Marsha. From then on, the tour turned around for the best. She introduced herself and driver, provided important details, rules, expectations about tour. She provided insightful information about each place we visited. She ensured that her group was not lost, and not left behind. She ensured for our safety. On the last day of tour she managed to fullfill my request to change the time of airport transfer to ensure we have enough time to get to airport and go through check in. Marsha made us feel safe to enjoy the tour. The accommodation are ok. Continental breakfast is ok. Tour buses in good condition and comfortable. Europamundo needs to imporve the tour guide to tourist proportion. 50 tourist is too much for 1 guide. If this is your first trip to a destination and/or not use to venturing on your own, do not use Europamundo. Tourradar and Europamunfo service is slow with replies. Europamundo Emergency does not provide quick response. Touradar insurance policy can't accommodate adding additional person ones a policy is purchased. Best to purchase the insurance policy else where. Overall, I give this tour 3.7

The tour was well planned with knowledgeable tour guides. However it will help to give pamphlets with brief information about the different towns and monuments, this willallow reading at leisure. The hotels were ok. The food was horrible, I expected to experience cuisine on the tour but it was substandard.

Italian Holiday (7 Days) Tour

Italian Holiday (7 Days)

My husband and I are usually "do it yourself" travelers, but am I SO glad we went with Trafalgar on this "Italian Holiday" trip, and I'll tell you details of why I think this is a GREAT way to see Italy! First off, there are venues like the Vatican that an individual simply can't get into without waiting for hours in a long line, but Trafalgar guides shepherd you past endless lines, and get you in early. The day we saw the Vatican, people had gotten into lines hours early, but the Pope was set to visit at 10 am, so those poor folks were going to be very disappointed to learn they weren't going to get in after all. We were escorted in early, because Trafalgar arranges everything for you. Then a local guide who was extremely knowledgable gave us a fascinating tour, which made everything we were seeing that much more meaningful and interesting. You wear little headsets that are NOT a prerecorded thing, but enable you to hear her live tour. You can ask questions, which is so nice. I'm not even Catholic, but was utterly mesmerized and blown away by the Vatican. I'm sure you CAN do it on your own, but you'll wait forever, and not learn half as much. It's not like I'm going to Italy every week, so why not do it right and get a real tour? ( I'm so enthused, I should let everyone know I'm not a Trafalgar employee, and don't get any perks from sharing my enthusiasm!) . That was true of a lot of other places too; the local guides were all wonderful. Depending on your sophistication, you may or may not love the hotels. None took my breath away, but they were clean and in good areas, and some were quite attractive. Our main tour guide was Martin, and he assured us and reminded us that if we had any problems, please tell him so he could fix it. Well, at our first hotel, we were put into a room with one bed, but we'd requested 2 since hubby's a snorer and I'm a thrasher, so we did call Martin, and he did straighten it out very soon. This is something to say in Italy, because their hotels aren't usually up to US standards, frankly, and if you have a problem with your hotel and you are only staying somewhere one or 2 nights, how responsive do you think a hotel clerk will be? But if you are part of a tour group which brings that hotel lots of business, they are much more motivated to take care of you. This is another advantage to taking this tour, if you have limited time to see Italy, and want to see as much as possible in just over a week. We are penny pinchers, and this was expensive for us, but after going on it, neither of us begrudges the money, and my independent husband admits we could never have had all the wonderful experiences on our own. The breakfasts were very good, except Italians seem to like runny scrambled eggs, but there is LOADS to choose from, and I NEED a big breakfast! (I admit, I always stashed a bit of food in my purse for later too, but I was discreet!) Another thing we could not have done on our own was one of our favorite experiences: they took us to dinner at the most beautiful old villa in Tuscany! The owner was the soul of graciousness, and it was a spectacularly beautiful site; the grounds were like something gorgeous from a movie. There were lemon trees, roses, lavender, statues, paths, huge planters with blooming hydrangeas, and it all overlooked a valley of olive trees and grape vineyards. We spent the most relaxing evening, and were allowed to take all the pictures we wanted, and the dinner was delicious. You really got to appreciate Tuscany. A few of our dinners included as much wine as you wanted, and they don't add sulfites in Italy, so I became very European for a week! Another thing to be aware of is hidden costs in any tour company; they can really add up. Trafalgar did include quite a few meals, and quite a few amazing sites, so that makes a difference, and it ended up less expensive overall than others which had lots of "" that our tour included.. My husband and I paid for 2 optional tours: the Parthenon, and seeing "David" at the Academia. Again, we are ridiculously cheap, so we used a Rick Steve's book for our free time in other places. I think it's a good idea to buy his latest book and bring it with you, AND download some tours, because you can use it to do your own sightseeing, IF you are on a budget. We did the Rick Steve's tour in Verona, and we kept bumping into the folks on the optional tour, so I can't say that was an extra I minded missing! The biggest risk we took was in Florence. We could easily have seen a very famous cathedral where an amazing array of famous people are buried, but we really wanted to see the Uffizi Museum. Martin advised us to see the cathedral, because we might very well not get in to the Uffizi by the time we'd need to leave. We thanked him, then promptly RACED to wait in line at the Uffizi for more than an hour. You can arrange to get tickets days in advance, but we hadn't. (I guess to do that, we'd have had to know what time we'd be there..) We were super lucky to have about 45 minutes left to run around seeing our favorite statues and paintings that we'd researched on the Rick Steve's app while in line, including Botticelli's Venus Rising! It was one of the best days of my life; we were just so incredibly lucky. We waited in the general line, because the fast pass ticket do not tell you before you purchase them what time you'll get in; what good is that?!! I can't really recommend you do this though, because we might very well have not gotten in in time... Anyway, the glass blowing exhibit in Venice and the leather making exhibit in Florence were both very interesting, and were another thing available to you only as a Trafalgar guest. We didn't buy any glass or leather because we're cheapskates, but some of the ladies in our group bought stunning earrings at the glass factory, and they weren't expensive at all for such stunning, unique mementos...I wished I had! I wasn't thrilled with seeing the Leaning Tower of Pisa for so long; I'd have been happy with 15 minutes of corny photography and then hit the road. But hubby and I went off site to an Indian restaurant near the back entrance, and had a great lunch cheap. (BTW, this review is completely helter skelter in terms of itinerary; I'm hopping all around out of sequence, sorry.) I'd been afraid Venice would be smelly and dirty, but despite a bad heat wave, it wasn't smelly or dirty. In fact, it was beautiful, absolutely amazing!! There's no other place like Venice - you MUST see it - and the cathedral and buildings and churches are incredible. We're musicians, so we had to go see the church where Antonio Vivaldi worked, Chiesa di Santa Maria della Pieta, and St. Mark's where all Gabrielli's antiphonal brass pieces were performed. Photos aren't allowed in St. Mark's, and a lady in front of us was actually caught and escorted out for taking a pic, but hubby snuck one anyway because he's a music nerd. Never mind that it's the tomb of ST. MARK WHO WROTE THE GOSPEL - hubby had to photograph the balconies where trumpet players of old performed! We didn't go on the optional tour of St. Mark's. I'm sure it was interesting, but the long line for the public moved surprisingly fast, and we wanted more free time in Venice to explore back streets, old bookstores, etc. I think people in our group basically found all the optional tours worthwhile except perhaps the one in Verona, but we had our own ideas, so we picked and chose, nothing wrong with that. We didn't pay for the gondola tour, but everyone else was unanimous in raving about it, and it was a lot of folks' favorite thing! We also went on the Trevi Fountain tour, and I think we could have done that one on our own, but they did also show us little neighborhoods of charming narrow streets, and Martin treated us all to the best gelato of my life: I chose "blood orange", and am salivating just writing that... My husband was afraid this would be an "old farts tour" - meaning very slow paced, but I teased him about this as we hurried to keep up! This tour involved a lot of walking and a pretty rigid wakeup schedule, so if you have mobility issues, it's not the tour for you. It's PERFECT if you want to see a big range of Italy in only 8 days though, so we really appreciated the pace. If you go when it may be hot, take an umbrella for shade. Yes, I know it sounds silly, but even my semi-macho husband was using one to ward off the scorching sun when we got a 95 degree heatwave. It makes a huge difference. I wore a hat the entire vacation, so if you're fair, pack one. Fortunately for us, everyone on our tour was just great, and we really enjoyed getting to know lots of fun, interesting people from all over, and of various ages. I can't imagine every batch of tourists are so great, but our group was a total pleasure. We never saw the Lake Cuomo area, but that's something we could do on our own someday. For getting a wonderful experience of Italy- seeing Rome,Florence, Tuscany, Venice, Pisa, etc. - you really get a fabulous tour with this group. Lastly, Martin talked an awful lot, (bring earplugs for the bus if you want to sleep!) but he was a great guy and very professional and knowledgable. Our driver Vincenzo was incredibly competent navigating tight squeezes and traffic, and everything was planned like clockwork for our convenience. I gave this 5 stars, and hope you love it if you go!! <3

Rome City Break - 3 Days/2 Nights Tour

Rome City Break - 3 Days/2 Nights

((REVIEW IS FOR VENICE CITY BREAK, WHICH WAS NOT LISTED AS AN OPTION)) I (32 year old solo male traveler from NJ, USA, attorney by trade) had the distinct pleasure of dealing with Veronica from Italy on a Budget when I travelled to Italy this past July/August 2021. She was personable, knowledgeable, above-and-beyond helpful, responsive, and was absolutely instrumental in making my Italian vacation as great as it was. Before my trip, she helped as I had to reshuffle my plans due to my changing personal calendar as well as the effect of Covid on travel, and she patiently answered all of my questions over the phone and via chat in a straightforward manner. I also had various specific requests of how I wanted my trip to be personalized (adding certain activities to the itinerary, adding a day, upgrading my hostel stay), and she was able to complete every one. While in Italy, she kept in contact with me to ensure that I was happy with the trip, and she even provided helpful tips when I independently travelled to other parts of Italy outside of my Italy on a Budget itinerary. She deserves a 12/10. I cannot recommend her highly enough.

Our trip to the Amalfi Coast, Pompeii and Sorrento was great. The tour guides were very well organised and led three very good tours for us. Each tour was of a different theme and this made for an interesting few days. Our accommodation at the Grand Hotel Vesuvio was very comfortable, and the pool on a hot day was an added bonus. The staff were very nice and most helpful.

From start to finish Wanderful Holidays were extremely helpful and tentative. Wanderful holidays answered all our questions quickly and ensured all our needs were met when planning our trip. The hotels they selected for us were perfect as they were on the upper side of hotels ratings. The tours were also well planned and the meeting points were easy to find. The overall logistics of the hotels, tours, transfers, and communication excelled expectations, as there was always someone from Wanderful checking-in and ensuring we made it to our tours and transfers. We would definitely book again, as Wanderful provides a very personalized holiday experience.

What people love about Rome Tours

The tour itself was amazing! A lot of value for money. The tour guide did seem to be a bit annoyed at us at the end when we wanted to get transport back to the hotel, after walking over half a marathon. This is notable considering a few members had lower body injuries/ health concerns. Other than that, I really loved my trip. I made friends for life, memories I’ll cherish for years
We travelled from India through Europamundo. The services were extremely good especially our tour guide Gaetano Mancuso was a very nice person to accompany us. His behavior was extremely polite. We are very satisfied to travel with Europamundo.
Tour really amizing, the driver and tour guid, food and location was very good, but a first day and last day hotel accomodation is not good very small shower, the bed is like rocking, the last tour scheduled from vasilica to collesium there no travelling car and is not good for us to take a taxi by our own and some a taxi driver is not honest.

Best time for travel best of italy.

While just about any month is great to visit Italy, there are a few prime times of the year for the Best of Italy tour. Here are some recommendations from our destination experts.

Throughout Italy, the most popular times to visit are April, May, June, September, and October. Along the coast, July and August are busy with locals and Europeans on summer holiday, while cities are usually less crowded.

Winter: To experience Venice without the crowds, December, January, and February are best. Take a walk beside the canals on a quiet evening, where you can hear your footsteps echoing off the water.

Spring: Enjoy Italy in the spring season, with fewer tourists and comfortable temperatures. March is the sweet spot, when the weather is warm, but not too hot. This quieter time of year is ideal for comfortably exploring the cities and towns.

Fall: With fewer crowds, cooler days, and a bit of foliage to enjoy, November is a fantastic time to travel in the Romagna and Tuscany regions.

During you stay in the Romagna countryside, you have a choice between two activities. Your first choice is to enjoy a relaxing day, basking in the bucolic landscape of your wine resort and pamper yourself with an organic wine-infused mud treatment. Your second choice is to spend the day in Ravenna (UNESCO). During the darkness that enveloped the last days of the Roman Empire, Ravenna emerged as a center of power thanks to its strategic position. The city’s rulers – the Byzantines, the Goths – adorned its churches with dazzling mosaics. During a guided walking tour, discover the city’s most illustrious monuments including the mosaics that inspired Cole Porter’s Night and Day.

Hotel-Maison Venezia UNA Esperienze

On a compelling tour of its most famous antiquities, discover why Rome has been known through the ages as the “Eternal City.” The city’s ancient remnants serve as an undisputed testimony to its former glory as the seat of an empire. Hear the distant echoes of 45,000 cheering spectators when you visit the Colosseum, the site of legendary gladiator contests. Walk up the steps like millions have before you, marveling at the ingenuity and scale of this world-famous structure. Your tour continues with a guided visit to the Campidoglio – Rome’s Capitol Hill. Once a temple dedicated to Jupiter, the area was redesigned by Michelangelo during the Renaissance. From the Campidoglio, admire expansive views of the Roman Forum, the social space that once was the beating heart of the Empire.

The Vatican Museums are not only home to one of the world’s greatest collections of art, but also to the world-famous Sistine Chapel. Priceless artifacts from ancient Egypt, Etruscan Italy and cultures around the world are preserved in the Vatican’s palaces, galleries, halls and rooms. Follow a local expert guide on a three hour, in-depth visit through this vast collection. Highlights include the Gallery of Maps, the Gallery of Tapestries and, of course, a visit to the Sistine Chapel. The chapel’s famous ceiling frescoes took Michelangelo four years to complete. His brilliant Last Judgment, which rests on the altar wall, was a topic of controversy for centuries. Other walls feature paintings by Pietro Perugino, Sandro Botticelli, Cosimo Rosselli and Domenico Ghirlandaio. Your final stop will be at St. Peter’s Basilica, one of the most important churches in Christendom, and until recently, the largest in the world.

Embark on a walking tour featuring Florence's artistic and architectural gems.

Discover the craftsmanship behind the Venetian gondolas during a visit to a local Remèr oar-making workshop.

Frequently asked questions

  • First things first, pack in your passport, important documents, cash and medications. Next, you’ll want some entertainment to while away the hours. A juicy book and a tablet filled with your favorite shows are always good options. If you plan to take a quick nap, a neck pillow and some earplugs will also be useful. Finally, leave space for a toothbrush and some deodorant to ensure you hop off the plane looking and feeling fresh.
  • Double-check that you don’t have a Swiss Army knife lurking in your carry-on luggage. Other restricted items include explosive or flammable products, like aerosols and matches, and liquids and gels in containers with a volume of more than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters).
  • The answer to a comfortable flight is as simple as the clothes you wear. Prepare yourself for varying temperatures by bringing layers. This will keep you nice and warm if the cabin gets chilly. Shoes like sandals and heels are best left in your suitcase. Even though they may be your favorites, opt for flat, closed-toed footwear like slip-ons. Your feet will thank you for it.
  • The result of lengthy periods of inactivity, DVT (deep vein thrombosis) is a condition that can affect some passengers during long-haul flights. But the great news is there are numerous ways to reduce your risk of developing it. Keep your fluids up, wander through the cabin as often as you can and wear compression tights or socks.
  • Keep your travel documents and ID someplace easily accessible. They’re the first items you’ll be asked for by security.
  • Your coat, belt, keys and other items in your pocket, like your headphones, will need to go on a tray through the X-ray machine. Make the whole process easier by removing them as it gets closer to your turn.
  • All your electronic gadgets, including your phone and tablet, will also need to be scanned separately.
  • Any gels or liquids, such as lip balm or cologne, that you want to take on board must be no greater than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters). Also, they all must fit inside a quart-size (one liter), zip-lock bag.
  • There’s a good chance you’ll need to take your shoes off for scanning, so wearing slip-on sneakers is always a clever idea.
  • Take all prohibited items out of your carry-on bag. If you have any sharp objects like a pocket knife or tools, put them in your checked luggage. They won’t be allowed on board.

11 Things To Do In Rome: Complete Guide To Italy's Eternal City

I n the province of Lazio in central Italy lies one of history's most influential cities, Rome . Situated on either side of the Tiber River, Rome is one of the best places in the world for culture, food, history, and beautiful cityscapes. Legend has it that the city was founded on April 21, 753 BCE by the semi-mythic, semi-historical twins, Romulus and Remus; however, archeological data suggests that the area has been inhabited for close to 10,000 years. From 753 BCE to the 5th century CE, Rome was one of the Ancient World's premier cities.

As the capital city of the Roman Republic and later the Roman Empire, this city was the home of countless historical figures, like the Gracchi brothers, Julius Caesar, Gaius Cassius Longinus, Emperor Augustus, and even the daunting Caligula. During ancient times, Rome was an epicenter of learning, art, science, and literature.

It was here that masterworks of art that shaped the world were created, like Michelangelo's paintings on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. Learn About History At The Colosseum

Going to see the Colosseum when visiting Rome is a no-brainer. Visitors absolutely cannot miss seeing it, even if just from the outside. As the most recognizable landmark of the city, visitors would be remiss if they didn't get to see this astounding feat of ancient architecture.

The project was originally started under the Roman emperor, Vespasian, but construction was not finished until 80 CE during the reign of his son, Titus. In its prime, this massive limestone and concrete structure could hold up to 80,000 spectators. In the 1st century CE, Ancient Romans would have watched gladiatorial battles here and would have provided Ancient people with the opportunity to see rare animals like tigers, crocodiles, hippos, and rhinos.

Today, visitors who go will have the chance to learn about Ancient Roman daily life and the harsh realities faced by ancient gladiators.

Visitors here will be amazed by the engineering that went into creating this structure: the roof is the largest unreinforced concrete dome in the entire world. Visitors who go inside should look up through the roof's central opening to the blue Italian sky.

  • Hours: Daily, 9am-6:35pm

  • Admission: Free

Take A Photo At The Trevi Fountain

When going to Rome, taking a walk by the Trevi Fountain is one of the most iconic things a traveler can do. Built between 1732 and 1762, this fountain was actually originally the dream of a 17th-century pope, Urban VIII.

The fountain was built overtop a preexisting Ancient Roman aqueduct that had fallen into disrepair by the Renaissance and Early Modern Periods. Visitors who travel here should pay close attention to the many gorgeous sculptures of Triton and hippocamps.

Visitors should know that this area can get quite crowded, especially at night; Rome has plenty to explore after dark .

  • Address: Piazza di Trevi, 00187 Roma RM, Italy
  • What to do here: take a selfie at the world's most iconic fountain, make a wish, post pictures to Instagram

Walk Around The Ancient Roman Forum

An excellent way to spend an afternoon in Rome is to see the wonders of the Roman Forum. This was the center of Ancient Roman life from the 8th century BCE all the way until the 7th century CE. Visitors here should carve out a large chunk of time to fully appreciate this area since there is so much to see.

Some of the highlights include the Temple of Saturn, the House of the Vestals, the Temple of Vesta , the Curia Julia, and the Arch of Titus. One of the most impactful things to do here, however, is to see the House of Augustus.

Many of the original frescoes are still present here, which will give visitors extra insight into understanding Rome's first emperor. Note that finding the House of Augustus can be tricky, but be sure to follow the map instead of the signage.

When traveling here in the summertime, tourists should be sure to bring water and should take frequent breaks to sit. This will not be difficult, as there are plenty of shaded garden areas rife with olive trees for visitors to enjoy.

Visitors should be wary here that some of the signage in the Forum is incorrect; when in doubt, always follow the map instead of the signs. This is especially true when trying to get to the House of Augustus.

See Ancient Roman Frescoes At The Museo Nazionale Romano: Palazzo Massimo

To learn about how Ancient Romans lived, a great museum to visit is the Museo Nazionale Romano: Palazzo Massimo. This museum has plenty of ancient artifacts for visitors to enjoy, but the crown jewel here is the room of frescoes from Empress Livia's villa.

This iconic piece of ancient artwork was from the famous first empress of the Roman Emperor, Livia, the wife of Emperor Augustus, the mother of Emperor Tiberius, and the great-grandmother of Emperor Caligula.

Visitors will be in awe of the ornately painted garden scenes against a gentle blue background. See the beautiful birds and fruit painted among the garden plants.

Take A Tour Of The Catacombs Of St. Domitilla And The Catacombs Of St. Callixtus

In a city known for its sacred sites, one of the best places to go is to the underground Christian catacombs. During the 2nd-4th centuries CE, early Christian burial practices differed greatly from Roman pagan practices, which stated that the dead had to be cremated and could not be buried within the city, so they chose to bury their dead in these catacombs.

Although the catacombs represent an ancient burial ground, they also contain beautiful artwork and frescoes. Visitors here will marvel at the beautiful works of ancient people and will be able to learn more about religion in the later Roman Empire.

Another amazing thing to do here is to sit in the gorgeous gardens above ground. A recommendation is to spend time sitting in the garden after the tour to contemplate the lives of ancient people.

Both the Catacombs of St. Domitilla and St. Callixtus are worth going to and can be completed on the same day, though there are different draws for each of them. The gardens at St. Callixtus are more expansive, while St. Domitilla has a cathedral below ground that visitors can see.

When going to the catacombs, visitors should know that access is only allowed during the daily tours.

See The Largo Di Torre Argentina

One of the most influential events in all of human history was the assassination of Julius Caesar by Marcus Junius Brutus and Gaius Cassius Longinus. One hidden gem in Rome is to see the site where this fatally ambitious political move occurred at the Largo di Torre Argentina.

While standing at the railing looking down over the Roman ruins, now dotted with weeds and red poppies, visitors can take a moment of silent contemplation to remember this historic event, the devastating civil war that followed between Brutus and Cassius against Augustus, and all the long-reaching historical implications that followed afterward.

However, the site has taken on a more positive role in modern times as opposed to its bloody ancient roots: it is now a sanctuary for cats! Among the ruins will be a multitude of stray kitties for visitors to see. Ironically, the site has become even more well-known for this feline purpose than for the historic event among modern city-goers.

  • Address: Largo di Torre Argentina, 00186 Roma RM, Italy
  • What to do here: see Ancient Roman ruins , contemplate the assassination of Julius Caesar and the civil war that this event caused, see adorable cats playing and enjoying life among the Roman ruins

See A Hilltop View Of Rome At Parco Savello

The best view of the city of Rome has to be at Parco Savello. Locally, the park is known as "Giardino Degli Aranci," or the Orange Garden. Visitors who want to get the best Instagram photo of the city should head here immediately and take a selfie at the lookout point.

This is because, from the vantage of this park, visitors can see a stunning view of the entirety of Rome and the Tiber.

Not only is the view spectacular, but the park also has beautiful gardens and walkways lined with rock pines. Visitors should look out for the many orange trees that grow here!

To truly get the best experience at this park, visitors should go during the evening to see the terracotta city turn gold with the setting sun.

  • Hours: Daily 9am-6:30pm
  • Address: Piazza Pietro D'Illiria, 00153 Roma RM, Italy
  • What to do here: See the best view of Rome, walk along beautiful paths lined with rock pines, see the gardens and orange trees, take photos for social media

Go Shopping In Rome

When visiting Rome, one of the top things to do has to be to explore the many shops and boutiques. Common souvenirs that are absolutely worth it are the silk scarves this area is known for, leather journals, calligraphy sets, and, of course, fashion.

If visitors are looking for Ancient Roman-style jewelry, one of the best places to stop is Cotton Club Pettinari . Seeing their Ancient Roman-inspired wares, which utilize replica coins and motifs from antiquity, will feel like walking through a museum of things to buy.

  • Where to go: Look for shops along the Via del Corso and near the Pantheon
  • Price: Prices in Rome tend to be more expensive than in other European cities, especially for fashion and apparel
  • What to do here: be on the lookout for silk scarves, journals, calligraphy sets, and fashion

Cotton Club Pettinari

  • Hours: Tuesday-Saturday 10am-7:30pm, Sunday-Monday 2:30pm-7:30pm
  • Address: Via dei Pettinari, 49, 00186 Roma RM, Italy

The Best Times To Go To Rome

The best time to go to Rome is any time! As a world-class city, Rome is beautiful all year round; each season offers travelers a distinct feeling. This area is known for its Mediterranean climate, which means that this area gets hot summers and mild winters.

Summer temperatures are often in the 80s and 90s, while winter temperatures drop to the 40s.

The best months to visit Rome are in May and October.

A classic time to visit Rome is in May when temperatures are warm, but not overly so. By this time, spring has long since returned to the Eternal City, and many of the flowers are in bloom.

  • Temperatures: 60s-70s

One surprisingly beautiful season to visit Rome is autumn. Even though many of the trees do stay green all year long, like the rock pines and the date palms, the sycamore trees along the Tiber turn a beautiful golden orange from mid-October through early November.

  • Month: October
  • Temperatures: 50s-70s

The Best Ways To Get Around Rome

Navigating Rome is so fun that it can actually be a big part of a traveler's enjoyment when exploring the city! With metro lines, a bus system, no small amount of Ubers and taxis, and, of course, many walking-friendly streets, visitors will have a blast getting from one place to another in the eternal city.

  • A typical metro fare in Rome is €12.50 (about $13.26 USD) for 48 hours.

When taking the bus, one important tip that visitors should be on the lookout for is that payment is not on the bus itself. Many inexperienced travelers have stepped onto the bus, thinking payment comes at the end, only to find themselves with a €‎50-€‎100 (about $53-$107 USD) fine for bus hopping.

Bus tickets are actually purchased in tobacco shops or at the electronic metro kiosks where subway passes are purchased.

Purchase bus tickets at the metro or at a tobacco shop. If not, and travelers board the bus, they risk a €‎50- €‎100 fine.

Visitors should know that the metro does not cross the Tiber, so for visitors who want to visit Trastevere, taking the bus, hiring an Uber, or simply walking are the best options.

Renting a car and finding parking in Rome can be quite stressful, so visitors should stick with walking, rideshares, and public transportation. Unless visitors are planning to head outside the city, renting a car is not necessary here.

Tips To Know When Visiting Rome

When visiting Rome, navigating the city is very easy for English and Spanish speakers. However, it is vitally important—not to mention polite, as well—to learn a few phrases in Italian before going.

Visitors who go to Rome during the third week in April should try to see the Natale di Roma festival.

This festival spans three days and celebrates the city's ancient history on the historic founding of Rome, April 21st, with volunteers dressed in Ancient Roman garb selling wares and educating visitors in the Circus Maximus. On the third day of the festival is the parade, where legions of Roman re-enactors march through the streets.

Visitors will truly feel like they've stepped back to ancient times during this festival, and will absolutely have an experience like no other.

How To Spend The Perfect Day In Rome

With all the things to do in Rome, it can be tough to narrow down the itinerary. The perfect day in Rome begins with the realization that one is in Rome!

Upon waking, visitors should don their cutest "Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday " inspired look and head out onto the cobblestone streets of Rome. For breakfast, a cappuccino and a croissant at a local café would be perfect.

After breakfast, visitors should make good use of the cooler morning temperatures and go to the Roman Forum. The perfect morning in Rome should be spent learning about the city's mesmerizing ancient history.

Visitors should be on the lookout for the Curia Julia, the House of the Vestals, and the frescoes of the House of Augustus. While walking around, visitors should take pause to sit under the shade of an olive tree.

For lunch, visitors should try a selection of classic Italian appetizers, like buffalo mozzarella or charcuterie with assorted meats, cheeses, and olives at a restaurant near the Pantheon. Visitors should try to go to a restaurant with a view!

In the afternoon, a great place to go is the Roman catacombs. Stepping into the cool catacombs will ease the intense heat of the day and will provide visitors with a chance to learn more about ancient history. Visitors should spend some time sitting in the beautiful gardens at the Catacomb of St. Callixtus to contemplate.

If visitors still have time, another great option for the afternoon is to visit the Palazzo Massimo to see the frescoes from Empress Livia's house. Since the museum provides seating in the gallery where Livia's frescoes are, visitors should take time to sit surrounded by gorgeous ancient art. This is also a good way to cool off during the afternoon, especially in the hot summer.

While walking to and from all of these places, visitors should make some time for shopping.

Getting a souvenir will make one's time in Rome all the more memorable, especially if it is a practical gift, like a journal, a scarf, a fashion piece, or a piece of jewelry.

For dinner, visitors should try a Roman classic, like cacio e pepe or carbonara. Visitors should try to make a reservation for Ristorante Roof Garden, so they can dine with the city lights twinkling and beckoning around them.

After a glass of sweet rosé wine and a dessert, visitors can walk back to their hotel room satisfied that they have truly gotten the most out of Italy's Eternal City.

Thought it would be interesting to compare the service, facilities, etc. on Italo with Trenitalia on our journey from Florence to Venice . Will see when the reservations open up on pricing and the time.

No this is something else. I'm trying to get italo fast Train from milan to florence. Trains available until the 10th. Then no trains. Then available on August 19 and beyond. So the schedule it out. No trains.

>>So the schedule it out.<<

No, the schedule is not fully released yet.

The schedule for both train companies are released for the August timeframe

trips to rome italy 2023

It's Italo's schedule. We can only speculate that they are taking more time to set up the schedule and fares for one of the busiest travel weeks of the summer, the weekend before, the week of, and the weekend after the big holiday on August 15.

No one here is going to see "reasons why" - who knows, maybe some of the schedules changes for those dates are still being sorted -those dates (8/13-8/18) are either side of the huge August 15 national holiday - and as has been said - the date the schedules will be loaded by is June 10 (or, 11th, I always forget which).

They are not going to have zero trains on some of the most busy days of the entire year - Italians and others travel in August like crazy and especially before and after August 15, Ferragosto (name of the Aug 15 holiday)

Taylor Swift is about to go back on tour: Here's what to expect on the Eras Tour in Paris

trips to rome italy 2023

After a two-month break, Taylor Swift is revitalizing her titanic Eras Tour in Paris, and fans believe there are changes coming to the show.

If you are wondering where she's playing, if there will be changes and how to score tickets, here's everything we know.

And if you're new to the Eras Tour party, you can get caught up on the first 83 shows here .

When does the Eras Tour start again?

Swift kicks off the European leg of her tour on Thursday, May 9, in Paris. She will perform Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, as well, in the City of Light.

Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle.

What are Taylor Swift's tour dates in Europe?

There are 69 shows left in the Eras Tour: 51 in Europe, nine in America and nine in Canada.

The European leg stretches from May all the way through a five-night stand at Wembley Stadium in London in mid-August.

See a complete list of international dates here .

After she wraps up in Europe, Swift will stop in Miami, New Orleans and Indianapolis before wrapping up in Canada.

See the remaining U.S. dates here .

What is the Eras Tour set list?

The Eras Tour has featured a massive 45-song set list you can check out here . But speculation is swirling it won't look the same when Swift takes the stage in Paris.

Will Taylor Swift add 'The Tortured Poets Department' to her set list?

The tortured poet has been on hiatus keeping her stamina up by releasing a double album of 31 tracks. The 2-hours-and-2-minutes project broke a number of Billboard records as the superstar did zero press to promote it. Fans flocked to stores and streaming services to listen to all the songs from "Fortnight" to "The Manuscript."

Although the singer has not confirmed whether her 11th era album will be added to her Eras Tour set list, she did post a YouTube shorts video with two scenes that sent Easter egg decoders into a frenzy. In one of the shots, the singer is next to a railing where a "TTPD" logo appears to be (at 0:11). In the succeeding shot, her back-up dancers perform holding canes and wearing top hats, something they have not worn previously.

Swift's dancers and bandmates posted to their Instagram stories as they left for France last week. The singer did not appear at two media events with her boyfriend Travis Kelce: the Kentucky Derby and a Formula 1 race in Miami , Florida. Patrick Mahomes, Kelce's friend and Kansas City's quarterback, attended the car racing spectacular with his wife, Brittany.

Can I still get Eras Tour tickets?

Swift's show is completely sold out in Europe and North America. There are resale sites with tickets, but be wary of scams. The best way to avoid getting swindled is continuously checking links on Swift's website . There are some for resale on the sites verified by her camp.

Singapore was a hotbed for fans who traveled thousands of miles only to get turned away at the venue. In Tokyo and Australia, last-minute ticket drops happened a few days — without announcement — ahead of the shows.

Miami, New Orleans and Indianapolis — the three U.S. cities Swift is visiting in the fall — have some of the heftiest price tags with Canada closely behind. In may be cheaper to travel to Warsaw, Poland, or Gelsenkirchen, Germany. Here's a list of cities with the cheapest resale tickets, according to travel website  Islands.com .

10. Vienna, Austria — total average cost: $1,089, safety score: 69.72

9. Cardiff, U.K. — total average cost: $1,061, safety score: 61.83

8. Lyon, France — total average cost: $1,047, safety score: 44.3

7. Lisbon, Portugal — total average cost: $1,028, safety score: 70.15

6. Munich, Germany — total average cost: $1,000, safety score: 78.88

5. Paris, France — total average cost: $971, safety score: 41.83

4. Stockholm, Sweden — total average cost: $935, safety score: 53.86

3. Hamburg, Germany — total average cost: $903, safety score: 57.51

2. Gelsenkirchen, Germany — total average cost: $749, safety score: 51.33

1. Warsaw, Poland — total average cost: $712, safety score: 72.98

Who are the opening acts?

Paramore launched the Eras Tour in Glendale, Arizona, in March 2023, so it's fitting the American rock band is opening the tour's second year. The act will open for Swift for 51 shows across Europe . The band was dubbed the 2024 Record Store Day global ambassador and surprised fans in Nashville the weekend following the release of "The Tortured Poets Department."

When the tour comes back to North America in October , Swift's opening act will be Gracie Abrams.

Where can I watch if I don't have tickets?

The Eras Tour is one of the first tours that has been followed, globally, by thousands of fans on digital platforms. Fans dedicate part of their concert experience to livestreaming as Swift performs. A few Swifties have learned how to host their own shows over social media including Tess Bohne , known as the livestream queen. Bohne goes live for (almost) every show pulling streams from Instagram and TikTok. When a livestream goes down, she fills the time with banter.

On YouTube, user @TaylorSwiftHockeyBro also livestreams the three-hour show, and on Twitch, @folkleric , is a host fans follow.

There is also an app, Swift Alert , that notifies fans who only want to watch certain eras like the acoustic, surprise set. The app sends out push alerts if there are any major announcements.

What secret songs are left?

For the past 83 shows, Swift has played an acoustic set she customizes at each stop with a guitar and piano performance. In 2024, the Eras Tour star added mashups of her songs for each stop. Here are the songs she has yet to perform:

  • "Taylor Swift" (debut album): "Mary's Song" and "A Perfectly Good Heart"
  • "Fearless": "The Way I Loved You," "Change," "Superstar," "We Were Happy," "That's When," "Don't You" and "Bye Bye Baby"
  • "Red": "Girl At Home," "Ronan," "Forever Winter" and "Run"
  • "1989": "Sweeter Than Fiction"
  • "Reputation": "I Did Something Bad"
  • "Lover": "London Boy," "Soon You'll Get Better" and "It's Nice to Have a Friend"
  • "Folklore": "Hoax"
  • "Evermore": "Happiness" and "Closure"
  • "Midnights": "Paris" and "Glitch"
  • "The Tortured Poets Department": all 31 tracks

Will Taylor Swift perform in 2025?

There have been many rumors that Swift will continue her show in 2025, but they are only rumors. Nothing has been announced for next year, and as of now, the tour will end in Vancouver, British Columbia, on Dec. 8.
