Spain visa for Dubai residents

Spain visa for Dubai residents

Step 1: Find out what is a Spain visa and requirements for Dubai residents

  • The best Spain visa for Dubai residents looking to visit Madrid, Barcelona, and other Spanish destinations is the Schengen visa. The Schengen visa is for UAE residents who require a visa to enter Spain and the rest of the greater Schengen area. A successful application for the Spain visa from Dubai will result in a Schengen visa that entitles its holder to visit Spain for 90 days. During that period, a Dubai resident may also use his or her Schengen visa to enter the 26 other Schengen states (countries like Italy, Germany, and France).
  • Dubai residents should begin the process of applying for the Spain Schengen visa by paying careful attention to the Spain visa requirements outlined in steps 2-10. Travelers who are prepared to assemble a complete application, pay their Spain visa fees, sit for a short visa interview, submit their biometric information, and uphold their visa terms and conditions should proceed to step 2.

Step 2: See when to travel by learning the processing time for the Spain Schengen visa

  • 15-60 days is the processing time for the Spain visa for Dubai residents. While it’s not uncommon for applicants to be granted a decision after two weeks or even one month, you should prepare for the longest-term processing-period scenario (60 days).
  • When you apply for a Spain visa from Dubai, you should give yourself enough time to meet the various Spain visa requirements. Gathering your application materials, filling out forms, and scheduling interviews—these are procedures which you should set aside days and even weeks for.
  • In consideration of the above, apply for the Spain visa from Dubai at least 60 days before your travel date (but not earlier than six months). If this isn’t possible for you, know that applications for Schengen Spain visas and types are also accepted up to 15 days before an applicant’s stated departure date.

Step 3: See where to apply for the Schengen visa from Dubai

  • The Schengen visa is for UAE residents living throughout the country. The Schengen Spain visa for Dubai residents is available through the Spanish Embassy in Abu Dhabi, which also has facilities in Dubai.
  • Contact us to establish your application destination in Dubai.

Step 4: Select your type of Spain visa for Dubai residents

  • “What is your reason for traveling to Spain?” You will be asked this question at the Spanish border, and your answer should match the answer you gave on your Schengen visa form, which is where you will select the “type” of Spain Schengen visa you need.
  • Browse the list of Spain visas and types here and see which of the 10+ listed types best describes your reason for going to Spain. If you need a visa because you are playing on a football team that has a match in Valencia, you should apply for the “Sports” Schengen visa type. If you’re simply going to tour the country’s innumerable historical/cultural sites, you should select “Tourism” instead.

Step 5: Select your Schengen area entry category for the Spain visa for Dubai residents

  • Single entry Spain visa for Dubai residents (no re-entries to the zone after exiting)
  • Double entry Spain visa for Dubai residents (one re-entry to the zone after exiting)
  • Multiple entry Spain visa for Dubai residents (unlimited re-entries to the zone after exiting)

Step 6: Complete your Schengen visa application for the Spain visa for Dubai residents

  • The main part of your Spain visa from Dubai application—fill out, print out, and sign the Schengen visa form , and hand it in with the rest of your documents at your visa appointment.
  • This form (and all documents/materials) will likely need to be completed in Spanish or English (or translated from Arabic/other languages into one of those languages). For language requirements for the Spain visa for Dubai residents, contact us.

Step 7: Gather your required documents and learn how much does a Spain visa cost

  • National passport
  • UAE Residency permit
  • Two passport-scale photos
  • Proof of finances (bank statements, credit cards, etc., which show you can afford the day-to-day costs of your trip)
  • Proof of accommodation (evidence of where you will stay in Spain)
  • Proof of return (evidence—typically plane tickets— showing your intent to exit the Schengen area)
  • Proof of insurance (receipt from your purchase of medical travel insurance with adequate coverage)
  • Supplemental documents are also required for most applicants. For example, “Sports” Schengen visa applicants will need to submit materials outlining the nature of the athletic event they intend to participate in.
  • Spain visa fees are 80 EUR for Dubai residents who do not otherwise fall into a special category of travelers entitled to reduced fees or exemptions (children of a certain age, some students, dignitaries, etc.). You may need to pay in EUR or USD (or pay the equivalent EUR rate in AED). Click for an explanation of Schengen visa fees .

Step 8: Make the interview for how to apply for a Spain visa from Dubai

  • Contact us here to make your in-person visa appointment at your application destination for your Spain visa for Dubai residents.

Let’s learn a bit more about Spain

The country Spain has never failed to surprise us and kept on telling us that it has much more than sunbathing and shopping. What else could be the other reasons? Well, we will help you unleash them one by one in this article. And if you plan to visit this beautiful country during your vacation, you can take our assistance in getting a visit visa to Spain from Dubai. After all, that is what we are proficient at. Our team of experts will help you throughout your entire journey and turn every stone to ensure a hassle-free journey for you. Before we explain the steps of applying for a Spain visa, let’s look into why visiting Spain is necessary, especially in this current scenario. So let’s get started.

Stunning scenery

Spain is famous for its natural beauty and unique landscapes. You can see the beauty of the country, from dramatic and imposing mountains to sparkling beaches that dot the coastline. And if you are a lover of scenic beauty and panoramic views, you can spend your holidays at Tenerife, where you will get a close view of the volcano along with other sceneries. This volcanic landscape is one of the largest of the Canary Islands and has an extensive coastline rich in different flora and fauna. Another spot you must not miss is Los Gigantes Cliffs which is situated at the height of 2000 feet above sea level. And if you have a soft corner for hiking, Mount Teide at Tenerife would be a great choice. The view from its peak will give you goosebumps. Those who don’t like or can’t hike can use their cable car facility to enjoy the panoramic view from the top.

Mesmerising beaches

Another thing that the country boasts of is its numerous beaches and coastlines. Reportedly, there are thousands of beaches in Spain, with a coastline of over 5000 miles. That means wherever you travel in Spain; you are surely going to come across a beach. The best of this country is that it has pleasant sunny weather almost 300 days a year and hence is suitable for people from all walks of life. There are several resorts and holiday inns stationed near these beaches, of which you can choose one according to your budget. Spain mostly has blue beaches that you cannot find anywhere else. My suggestion would be to visit the Costa de la Luz beach near the Portuguese border. It is famous for its resorts, food and crystal-clear turquoise waters.

Mouthwatering food

One reason that people like to visit Spain is its fabulous food. For bars and multi-cuisines, you need to visit the cities and if you want to try out their traditional foods, visiting their small villages would be a better idea. They have unique dishes like a seafood stew, paella and chorizo, which are tempting and mouthwatering at the same time. Most of their dishes are healthy, delicious and full of flavour. You can plan a trip to Costa Brava and Barcelona city, to taste some of their authentic dishes.

Cosmopolitan cities and vibrant villages

The one thing that makes Spain stand out from the rest of the countries is its cosmopolitan cities and vibrant villages. They are mostly known for their art, museums, food and unlimited shopping options. Here you will also have the opportunity to learn about the country’s history and culture. Cities are mainly meant to be happening and have all the comforts you are looking for. At the same time, villages are more about scenic beauty and breathtaking views. In villages, you will be introduced to farming and fishing, and it is going to be a completely new experience for you. From cobbled streets to whitewashed houses, these villages are going to charm you for sure. Make it a point to taste their special dessert wine along with other specialities like fig bread and sugarcane honey.

Description

Steps of obtaining a spanish visa.

First of all, one has to understand what getting a Spanish visa entails. It bears mentioning that Spain, on the account of being part of the Schengen Agreement, can be visited on a Schengen visa , which also gives its holder the ability to enter any of the rest of the countries subject to the aforementioned agreement.

Thus, the process of getting such a visa as would permit one to go to Spain freely is very much similar to that of preparing for travel to numerous other European locations. The conditions also bear quite a resemblance.

Step 1. Preparations

It cannot be overstated how important it is to make plans and preparations well in advance. The reason for it is the processing times for a visa to Spain, which can span anywhere from two weeks (14 days) to 60 days. Unfortunately, there is little way to predict how much time exactly it will take in your case, because of how many variables factor in, including but not limited to how busy the visa centre is, the time of the years, and other things that influence the period of processing.

With that in mind, you need to plan your journey in advance so that to allow for the max possible time (2 months). Otherwise, you would run a risk of your application taking too long and ruining your vacation.

We in Smart System Holidays will help you calculate the optimal time to apply for the visa based on our many-year experience in the field.

Note : at the same time, you cannot apply for a Spain visa too much in advance, as it needs to be done not earlier than 6 months before you want to enter the country.

Step 2. Choosing where to apply for it

Residents of the UAE apply for a tourist visa at Spain Visa Application Center in Abu Dhabi or Spain Visa Application Center in Dubai.

Step 3. Selecting the right type of visa for you

Schengen visas come in many different forms and types. Some are suitable for people who seek to work in one of the European countries, others are for those who wish to study there, and some are needed to conduct business in Spain, but the most popular kind by far is the tourist visa.

This is the visa type that lets one go to Spain with the purposes of travelling in mind. As such, you cannot, for example, work while staying there with it. However, it is exactly what most applicants need.

Let’s delineate the most common types of Spanish visas:

  • Tourist visas. You get one if you just want to visit for sightseeing, vacationing, etc.
  • Business visas. This one you need to travel on business – for example, to attend a meeting with your partners or discuss a merger, etc.
  • Medical visas. If you are going to Spain to receive healthcare, a medical visa needs to be provided.
  • Student visas. These are required to get an education in Spain.
  • Work permits. If you’re planning to go to Spain for work.
  • Dependent visas. These only apply to spouses and underaged (under 18) children of the EU and Swiss citizens.

You should be aware that the purpose of your visit is extremely likely to be asked at the customs upon entering. Please note that your answer needs to match the purpose stated during the visa application and, by that virtue, the type of your visa.

Because of that, you need to be sure what visa you want before you apply.

Step 4. Choosing the visa type by entry

One important thing to keep in mind with visas is the entry category. Let’s say for example that you have a 90-day Spanish visa. It means you can enter the country and stay in it for 90 days before you will legally be required to leave. However, you can also leave Spain at any moment before it runs out. The crucial part here is what happens if you do.

If the visa you have is a single-entry one, then, despite the fact there is still “unused” duration of stay, you cannot go to Spain again with the same visa.

This potential problem is altogether avoided if you opt for a double- or multiple-entry visa, the first of which allows for one repeated entry while the second lets you enter as many times as you desire within the allocated time period.

Step 5. Gathering the required documents

As with any visa out there, there is a number of documents one has to provide to the embassy or consulate to become eligible for it.

In the case of Spain, the list of required documents looks like this:

  • Your passport;
  • Your UAE residency permit;
  • Two photographs (passport-styled and sized);
  • A bank statement;
  • Proof you will stay in Spain for the duration of your trip (like hotel booking);
  • Proof you will leave Spain before your visa runs out (the best example of it would be your return plane tickets);
  • Medical insurance (travel) or receipt for it.

Other documents might be needed based on the type of the visa.

If you have any questions as to the exact documents you need, we at Smart System Holidays will be happy to help you figure it all out!

Step 6. Filling in the application form

In addition to the rest of the documents mentioned in the previous part, you will also have to hand in a filled application form to get a Spanish visa.

It needs to be presented on paper, so you must print it out.

Any mistakes in the form can result in your application being denied. Therefore, the best option is to turn to professionals for help – which we have a lot of experience with.

Step 7. Getting an appointment for the interview

To finalize the proceedings and obtain a visa, you will need to submit your documents in person at BLS Abu Dhabi or Dubai. While it may sound daunting, we can assure you that thousands of people in the UAE alone undergo this procedure yearly with success.

Step 8. Submission

Once the day of the appointment for submission comes, you will go to the visa centre to submit your documents. This is when you are going to hand in your documents in addition to the Spanish visa fee (which is currently 80 euros).

Then the visa centre workers will take your biometrics needed for the visa. That includes your fingerprints and your photos (remember, you still have to bring 2 yourself!).

Step 9. Wait for your application to be approved

After the submission is done, all that is left to do is wait. As we have mentioned earlier in this article, it will take anywhere from 15 to 60 days, so get ready to do some waiting!

This is a non-government site and whilst every endeavor is made to ensure the information is correct and up to date, there may be changes which we are not aware of. It is always a good idea to check the latest regulations. You should confirm details with your local Spain Visa Application Center.

Do I get a refund if my application is rejected?

No, the fee is not refundable.

My passport will stay valid for four months, but I only want to go to Spain for one month. Will I get a visa?

No, your passport has to be valid for 3+ months since the day your requested visa expires.

How much money do I need to have as per the bank statement to be permitted entrance?

The minimum amount prescribed is 15.000 AED.

Golden Visa Programs, Once a Boon, Lose Their Luster

Spain is the latest European country to end its program, which brought in billions of euros from real estate investors seeking residency status but worsened a housing crisis for locals.

When Ana Jimena Barba, a young doctor, began working at a hospital in Madrid last year, she moved in with her parents half an hour outside the city until she could save enough to buy her own home. But when she started looking at houses in the same village, almost everything was priced at more than 500,000 euros.

The amount — nearly 20 times more than the average annual salary in Spain — happens to correspond to the cost of the country’s “golden visa,” a program that offers residency to wealthy foreigners who buy real estate there. After a decade, the program has reeled in billions of euros in investments, but it has also helped fuel a wrenching housing crisis for its own citizens.

“There’s nothing I can afford,” said Dr. Barba, an allergist who has been working 100 hours overtime every month to save up a nest egg. “If foreigners inflate the prices for those of us who live here, it’s an injustice,” she said.

Faced with growing pressure to address its housing crunch, Spain said this month that it would scrap its golden visas, the latest in a wider withdrawal from the program by governments around Europe.

Half a dozen eurozone countries offered the visas at the height of Europe’s debt crisis in 2012 to help plug gaping budget deficits. Countries that needed international bailouts — Spain , Ireland , Portugal and Greece among them — were especially desperate for cash to repay creditors, and saw a path to bring in investors while reviving their moribund real estate markets.

People walking down a main street in an upscale neighborhood in Madrid.

Countries reaped a windfall: Spain alone has issued 14,576 visas linked to wealthy buyers making real estate investments of more than €500,000. But the prices that they can afford are squeezing people like Dr. Barba out of a market that had already been highly inflated by the rise of Airbnb and the draw of Wall Street investors.

“Access to housing needs to be a right instead of a speculative business,” Pedro Sánchez, Spain’s prime minister, said in a speech this month as he announced the end of the country’s golden visa program. “Major cities are facing highly stressed markets, and it’s almost impossible to find decent housing for those who already live, work and pay their taxes.”

The visas make it easy for people outside the European Union to buy the right to temporary residency, sometimes without having to live in the country. Investors from China, Russia and the Middle East flocked to buy real estate through them.

In recent years, British nationals have followed suit in the wake of Brexit, snapping up homes in Greece, Portugal and Spain, joined by an increasing number of Americans looking to enjoy a lifestyle they can’t afford in major U.S. cities.

But golden visa programs are now being phased out or shut down around Europe as governments seek to undo the damage to the housing market. And after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, E.U. officials urged governments to end them, warning they could be used for money laundering, tax evasion and even organized crime.

Portugal, which has reaped more than €5.8 billion in investment from the visas, modified its program in October to remove real estate as an investment to reduce speculative buying and cool an overheated housing market. An influx of foreigners has displaced thousands of low-income Portuguese citizens from homes in cities like Lisbon.

The government in Lisbon is trying to fix the affordable housing problem with new rules that would require landlords to rent empty flats to families, capping rents and converting some commercial real estate to housing.

Ireland shut down its program last year, in part to address concerns that Russian nationals were laundering money through it.

Greece , one of the last countries in Europe to offer a golden visa, is raising its foreign investment threshold to €800,000 from €500,000 in the Athens area and on popular islands including Mykonos and Santorini. The country’s prime minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, acknowledged severe housing shortages and pressure on rental markets, especially around Athens, but he said the government still wanted to draw investors. Greece raised €4.3 billion in investment from the visas from 2021 to 2023 alone.

A report released by the Institute of Labor Economics in March said the visa programs had helped spur economic development in countries offering them. But governments need to strike “a delicate balance between reaping economic benefits and safeguarding against potential risks,” including money laundering and rampant gentrification, the report said.

The pullback is coming as a broader housing crisis grips Europe , after years in which its real estate markets have undergone a profound metamorphosis that has increasingly pushed out modest-income workers, including doctors, teachers and police officers.

Gentrification has spread throughout European cities for decades, but the rise of Airbnb and other short-term rental providers has accelerated the affordability crisis. That was especially the case in countries affected by Europe’s debt crisis, where property owners discovered they could make more by renting to tourists than to locals whose finances had been squeezed by austerity programs.

Golden visa programs compounded the strain. In Greece, which initially granted foreigners a five-year residency visa if they invested €250,000, many apartment and home listings around Athens and on breezy Greek islands suddenly shot up from bargain-basement prices to €250,000, well out of reach for most Greeks.

Laura McDowell, an agent at the Athens-based Mobilia real estate agency, said that short-term rentals had made rents unaffordable in city centers, and the problem was worsened when investors from numerous countries converted homes purchased through golden visa programs to vacation rentals, further squeezing the supply of affordable housing.

The scheme lured Chinese nationals in particular, with many flying to Athens carrying suitcases loaded with cash . Chinese investment companies also bought buildings in low-income neighborhoods and areas with student housing, renovating apartments and reselling them to visa seekers. Today, entire apartment blocks even in once undesirable zones in and around Athens are owned largely by foreigners.

“Prices driven up by golden visas haven’t come down,” Ms. McDowell said. “Greeks have been priced out.”

In Spain, Chinese investors made up nearly half of visa seekers, followed by Russians. Low interest rates set by the European Central Bank compounded the problem in recent years by drawing more real estate investors outside the visa program, said Ernest Urtasun, Spain’s culture minister.

The Spanish government plans to construct 40,000 social housing units for people with limited resources as part of a broader plan to restore affordable lodging.

But it is uncertain that will help people like Dr. Barba quickly. Despite Spain’s recovery from the financial crisis, wages have failed to keep pace with the growth in the real estate market. Nearly a fifth of workers earn the minimum wage of €1,134 a month, while rents in Madrid jumped 15 percent in 2023. A 3.2 percent inflation rate has added to the strain.

Dr. Barba has been saving money for the past three years for a down payment on a home. She rented a room in a shared apartment in Barcelona when she began training as an allergist at a downtown hospital. But her monthly income was consumed by basic living expenses including food, rent and transport.

To save more, she transferred to the hospital in Madrid and now lives with her parents rent-free outside the city, working overtime to bump up her salary to €1,900. But with homes even in her parents’ village priced at half a million euros, she feels hopeless.

“It would take years to save up enough to put down a deposit on a home,” Dr. Barba said. “Buying a home is just a dream.”

Rachel Chaundler contributed reporting from Madrid, and Niki Kitsantonis from Athens.

European Union adopts more favourable Schengen visa rules for Indians

Indian Nationals can now apply for a multiple entry Schengen visa with longer validity

On 18 April 2024, the European Commission adopted specific rules on the issuing of multiple entry visas to Indian nationals, which are more favourable than the standard rules of the Visa Code that applied to date. This new visa ‘cascade’ regime for Indian nationals residing in India who apply for Schengen (short-stay) visas in India will provide easier access to visas with multi-year validity for travellers with an established travel history, if the passport validity allows.

According to the newly adopted visa “cascade” regime for India, Indian nationals can now be issued long-term, multi-entry Schengen visas valid for two years after having obtained and lawfully used two visas within the previous three years. The two-year visa will normally be followed by a five-year visa, if the passport has sufficient validity remaining. During the validity period of these visas, holders enjoy travel rights equivalent to visa-free nationals.

This decision comes in the context of strengthened relations under the EU-India Common Agenda on Migration and Mobility, which seeks comprehensive cooperation on migration policy between the EU and India, with facilitation of people-to-people contacts being of key aspect due to the importance of India as a partner for the EU.

Schengen visas allow the holder to travel freely in the Schengen area for short stays of a maximum of 90 days in any 180-day period. The visas are not purpose-bound, but they do not grant the right to work. The Schengen area consists of 29 European countries (of which 25 are EU states): Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Greece, Spain, France, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Hungary, Malta, Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Slovakia, Finland and Sweden, along with Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland.
