BREWERIES WE TOUR

Port Orleans Logo_edited.png

PORT ORLEANS BREWING

Port Orleans Brewing Co. was founded in 2017 by 5 partners with the managing partner being retired Saints offensive tackle Zach Strief. Strief has taken the brewery in a great direction, adding a beer garden and even sending hops into space!

The brewery has focused its efforts on perfecting lagering with two of their most notable beers being Riverfront, an american style, and Dorada a mexican style lager.

URBAN SOUTH BREWERY

Urban South Brewery was founded in 2016 by Jacob Landry and Kyle Huling with the intention of combining the heritage of European beer making with the brashness of new American styles.

With their instant classics signature brews, Paradise Park and Holy Roller IPA, Urban South has taken New Orleans by storm as well as rapidly increasing their production and distribution capacity year over year.

nola_brewingco_logo.png

NOLA BREWING

NOLA Brewing Company brews 8 beers year round, which are served in bars throughout the Southeast United States, as well as in grocery stores throughout Louisiana.

As New Orleans longest running craft brewery they have seen great success, expanding their distribution to 8 states while also creating a raft of seasonal, specialty, and charity beers! Also featuring NYC style pizza in their newly constructed taproom.

PRIVATE BEWERY TOURS

Bachelor parties, corporate events and birthdays.

Reserve a private bus and guide for your private party! All of our private tours include: door to door transportation, 6 beer samples & behind the scenes access to the brewing floors. Y’all will do more than just drink on this tour, we also cover how the beer is made, the ingredients, the history of the breweries and some fun insider info on New Orleans.

Our private tours start with a pickup from your hotel or Airbnb and head directly to three local breweries. Try two beers of your choosing at each stop, which is more than enough for most of our private parties! Each of the three breweries are unique from the: design, beer, food and overall vibe. Oftentimes one of the breweries has live music (especially on the weekends) and sometimes even a crawfish boil. At the end of your tour we can drop your party off anywhere in the downtown area.

3 Hour Tour - $79 per person + $300 private party fee

urban south brewery tour

Our story began with a casual conversation between two friends who generally spent Friday afternoons together enjoying a few beers at  Nola Brewing . In the spring of 2016, on a typical Friday, founders, Peter and Patrick decided to take the initiative and find a solution for providing easy access – for the millions of tourists visiting New Orleans throughout the year – to the amazing craft beer and the growing number of breweries opening in and around town.

Urban South Brewery Logo

Founded in 2016, Urban South Brewery inspires community and fellowship through the gospel of good beer. With deep roots in New Orleans, Louisiana, the award-winning brewery is the second largest in the state and continues to make its mark in the beer industry.

At Urban South, we’re combining the heritage of European beer making with the brashness of new American styles. That mixture of cultural legacy and bold innovation is why New Orleans was the perfect place to take root. We opened our New Orleans production facility and taproom in 2016. In February 2020, we opened an R&D brewery and taproom in Houston where we’ll focus on pushing the boundaries of American beer.

Our company’s mission is to inspire community and fellowship through the gospel of good beer. We operate with fearlessness and integrity in an effort to brew the South’s most respected beer. Our vision is to build an enduring company that embodies the values and traditions of the Urban South. We seek to be strong community partners and produce world-class beer.

Recent accolades include: 2019 U.S. Beer Open Championships (Silver), 2019 Best of Craft Beer Awards (Bronze), 2019 Beer Army Awards (Gold and Silver), 2018 US Beer Open (Silver), 2018 Can Can Awards (Gold, Silver, Bronze) and 2018 Beer Army Awards (Gold).

Urban South prides itself on being strong community partners, and with a belief that beer is a family affair, the brewery features a family-friendly taproom.

New Orleans Taproom

Our kid-friendly taproom is open seven days a week on Tchoupitoulas Street near the New Orleans Convention Center. At the taproom, you can enjoy our year-round and seasonal beers as well as special taproom-only beers. Crowlers, growlers and cans are available to go.

Houston Taproom

A new 14,000 sq. ft. facility including a 10-barrel brewhouse, canning line, a dedicated barrel and blending room, and a taproom featuring a large patio and beer garden are all features of Urban South Brewery’s first venture outside of Louisiana. Located in Houston’s Sawyer Yards, the new location will produce creative, Houston-specific experimental beers while hosting craft beer parties galore.

Proud to Support Independent Craft Brewers

For years, small and independent U.S. craft breweries have been turning the beer world upside down. Their ability to take risks, innovate flavors and build better communities has made the U.S. the craft beer capital of the world.

To proudly display that independent spirit, the Brewers Association created a symbol to unify U.S. craft breweries and those who want to support them. This certified mark gives beer lovers an easy way to identify independent craft beer.

Urban South Brewery closes Houston location amid landlord issues

F ans who enjoy high-quality, quenchable IPAs, fruited sours and fun experimental beers may be upset to learn that Urban South Brewery’s Houston location has announced its closing.

Urban South posted the announcement through its social media accounts Friday .

“It is with a bittersweet feeling that we announce the closing of our beloved Houston taproom starting today,” read the announcement. “While we bid farewell to our cozy space, rest assured that Urban South beers will continue to be brewed out of the original New Orleans location and still be readily available across Houston through distribution channels.”

Urban South Founder and CEO Jacob Landry told Chron Friday that the Houston location closed because the situation with its Sawyer Yards landlord Lovett Commercial became untenable. Lovett has been building apartments on its former parking lot space, plus directly across Oliver Street.

“We’ve been in the middle of a construction zone for well over a year,” Landry said. “We were hoping to push through and work something out with them, but there was just not any steam left.”

Landry said Urban South “lost a lot of money” with the Houston location, though they hoped things would turn around in the future.

“It may end up being a great place, but unfortunately we’ve been subsidizing the growth of that area.”

Based in New Orleans, Urban South opened its Houston location in 14,000 square feet at Sawyer Yards on Feb. 29, 2020. The timing of that opening was unfortunate, as Urban South and all other breweries and food-and-beverage businesses were severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic just weeks later.

But Urban South got through the pandemic with a robust take-out service, gaining plenty of new fans in the process.

“That first period we navigated pretty well,” Landry said. “The community was just incredibly supportive.”

In 2022, it began distributing its beers, such as Paradise Park American Lager and Lime Cucumber Gose, to Houston-area markets. Later, Urban South started canning its Houston-made HTX Hazy Juicy IPA to further cement its connection to Space City.

Urban South isn't the only brewery to close in the Sawyer Yards area this year; Buffalo Bayou Brewing Co. shut down its three-story facility in January because of a situation with its landlord. Several other breweries have closed recently in the Houston area .

Landry said Urban South, which is the second-largest brewery in Louisiana, will continue to distribute its beers to Houston-area markets, bars and restaurants.

“It’s been a wonderful few years,” Landry said. “The pandemic really forged a lot of creativity, a lot of camaraderie. The community embraced us and saw us as a third space. This is a really sad moment for us, as a ton of blood, sweat and tears went into it.”
