The privacy and views from our room. The staff was very nice and helpful.

Beautifully set up complex Loved the room/lodge! It's spacious, luxury and offers all facilities (airco, fan, kettle, drinks, luxury hair dryer) Super friendly staff that was cheered up all the time. The property offers 3 meals a day with lots of variation/ options. Great game drives with input towards the rangers to what animals you would like to see. Would recommend max 2 nights. Thanks for an amazing time!!

An exceptionally beautiful natural environment, gorgeous private lodges, friendly staff who could not have been more hospitable… overall an excellent stay and I only wish we had stayed longer.

Everything was perfect. The staff was super friendly and helpful. Our Ranger, Mnoni, was incredible: willing to go the extra mile, knowledgable & humorous. The room was incredible, always cleaned to perfection. The food was simple but delicious. The setup was just wonderful!

Our ranger Mnoni was amazing!!! He went all in to enable us the best stay ever. The rest of the staff was amazing as well.

I had a wonderful stay at Amakhala Safari Lodge. The staff go above and beyond, the food is good and plentiful, and the suite is heaven. I recommend arriving by 2 PM on your check-in day so you can attend the afternoon drive. The drives are fantastic; the guides are very knowledgable and the reserve is huge. Come with a good attitude; you may or may not see depending on the weather or the fact that animals are unpredictable - but the guides will try their hardest! My guide Des made several efforts to find rhinos - even staying later than normal until we found them!

The staff was simply amazing, everyone was so nice and cheerful especially our buttler Anathi. The lodge itself is also very nice with clean and comfortable rooms. Our ranger was so dedicated and knowledgable and made sure we always got to see what we wanted. Thank you Mr President! The drives themselves were great, plenty of animal to see too.

Lovely part of the Eastern Cape. Well received and looked after by the staff! Spoilt my wife, who is from America, to our African bush and wildlife. She thoroughly enjoyed every minute of our adventures on the included game drives. And the all-inclusive food package was absolutely delicious. Will definitely be back and hopefully a much longer stay.

Amazing oasis in the middle of the Game Reserve. Super friendly and attending staff and the ultimate safari experience. Highly recommend this for everyone looking for luxury and safari!

The Bush Lodge , a Game Lodge positioned in the bush at the top end of an open valley in the Amakhala Game Reserve offers en-suite, tented and thatched suites overlooking a wild life watering point with big sky views.

Rustic luxury tented bush camp

5-Star Bush Lodge is discreetly positioned in the bush at the top end of an open valley in the reserve, each of the superlative en-suite, tented and thatched suites overlooks a watering point with big sky views. Each suite has a secluded private viewing deck with intimate plunge pool. Within the spacious interior hot and cold air-conditioning, an atmospheric fireplace, large oval bath and romantic alfresco double showers make this the perfect bush retreat.

The main lodge offers luxurious dining, splendid lounge areas and an expansive viewing deck with magnificent views of game-filled plains. Evenings are spent around the outdoor fireplace admiring the unspoilt African star-scape. The guest reception is at the colonial Reed Valley Inn, from where guests are transferred into the reserve to enjoy the comfort and elegance of the tented accommodation. Bush Lodge offers twice-daily expeditions by open 4x4 safari vehicles.

Rooms/Tents:

All buildings are thatched roofs, tented walls and have wooden floors.The main building has a large, comfortable lounge, dining area, pub and a 96m2 deck with outdoor and indoor fire place. Each of the eight tents have an open deck with plunge pool, air conditioning (hot & cold), fire place, large oval bath and outdoor shower.

From Port Elizabeth take the N2 towards Grahamstown. Approximately 50 km from Port Elizabeth is an intersection, keep left on the N2 towards Grahamstown. From the intersection travel for a further 13km towards Amakhala Game Reserve (see road signs of various lodges along the way).

The striking stone-capped roof tops of Amakhala Safari Lodge welcome guests to a rustic, African tribal-style safari accommodation with all the comforts of a luxury retreat. Standing within the dense African bushveld of the compact Amakhala Game Reserve, the lodge offers guests the chance to bathe in the sounds of nature.

The compact nature of the game reserve ensures that game-viewing is consistent. Day and night game drives will give guests plenty of opportunities to spot the Big Five, as well as giraffe, wildebeest, and zebra to name a few. The majestic Bushman’s River winds its way through the reserve and is ideal for boat cruises.

By combining the solid walls of a conventional room and the canvas drop blinds of a tent in front, the 11 safari suites are designed in a way that enhances both the luxury and rustic elements of the lodge. Opening the drop blind will treat guests to an uninterrupted view of the bush, with certain suites looking out directly on to the waterhole. The pool overlooking the lush African bushveld is perfect for relaxation.

The Safari Lodge has 11 luxury suites complete with private plunge pools and separate lounge areas. Large beds draped with mosquito nets, sparkling wine on ice alongside a double bath filled with aromatherapy scented bubbles make this a favourite for honeymooners and the romantic at heart.

There is a double sleeper couch in each unit, to allow for extra accommodation. Children over 9 years of age are welcome.

Guests have a choice between King double rooms and King twin rooms which are both luxurious, lavish and fully equipped. A stay in each of the huts includes two amazing safaris a day, where guests can view the excellent wildlife that roams throughout the Amakhala Game Reserve.

The Amakhala Game Reserve is known for its incredible beauty and the incredible amount of wildlife that call the malaria-free Eastern Cape bush home. Amakhala houses the renowned Big Five, which is made up of an elephant, rhino, lion, leopard, and buffalo. As well as the Big Five, Amakhala is also home to zebra, giraffe, wildebeest, antelope, cheetah, warthogs and a stunning array of colorful birds, that can be heard chirping and fluttering overhead, providing a soundtrack to your safari.
