It was OK. I expected to be more energetic and charismatic, but they were fine. I am comparing to Three Days Grace show that was in the same stage and it was waaaaay more energetic and better. Also a lot of discomfort was by some drunk dudes that were mashing like everything without thinking about the rest. Of course its normal for this kind of concert, but I was going there rather to listen and sing great songs instead of protecting my girlfriend from random injuries.

Well that was so great than I can tell. BFMV is my favorite band ever ; I was 16 when I've discover it. That was my first concert. I'm almost 23, and I've seen the band became more aggressive...for my biggest pleasure.

Last night (20/11/2016 AB) spent so quick. 1h20 was like 10mns. The better songs have been played. I have jumped, screamed, sang all along. The crowd was like an unique crazy men. I've been squashed and pushed for my biggest pleasure. Just so perfect metal fans union.

Thank you so much to Matt, both Michael and Jamie for that show. A part of me is still there, enjoying. I'm quite sad about the fact the concert is over.

It was awesome. They played a mix new and old songs so you could enjoy the songs you know and love and get to know their newer work. BFMV played loud, played the crowd and the crowd returned the favor with energy.

Killswitch Engage played before Bullet for my Valentine. It sounded better than their albums which quite impressive since this is usually not the case.

Overall very good show and pretty nice venue (013 in Tilburg, The Netherlands)

In a recent interview with Mike James Rock Show , BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE guitarist Michael "Padge" Paget was asked about the band's plans for the coming months. He said: "We've got a few more — 10 or 11 more — summer festivals out in Europe to play over the summer. Then we have a little break in, sort of, August-September, and we head out to America for a month or five, six weeks to do a headline run up there. I'm not too sure what's gonna happen at the end of the year, if there's anything in there yet. And then we're gonna stop [touring] and start writing again. So '24 we'll be writing an album. And then 2025 we'll be back. [2025 is] an anniversary of something big," apparently alluding to the fact that 2025 will mark the 20th anniversary of BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE 's debut album, "The Poison" .

BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE released the deluxe version of its latest, self-titled album in August 2022 via Spinefarm / Search & Destroy . This extended release featured four brand new tracks, plus "Stitches" , a song previously only available as a Japanese exclusive. Following the CD and digital releases, a vinyl pressing launched in November 2022.

Last summer, BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE frontman Matt Tuck spoke to "Whiplash" , the KLOS radio show hosted by Full Metal Jackie , about the band's decision to pursue a more technical, aggressive direction on its self-titled album, which originally arrived in November 2021. The LP was written beginning in September 2019 with longtime producer Carl Bown , who co-produced the band's 2015 album, "Venom" , and produced and mixed 2018's "Gravity" .

"It just felt like the time was right," Matt explained. "It was just something that, when we wrote a couple of the key tracks that opened the door to letting the album what it is now, it just felt like the time was right.

"We came off the back off 'Gravity' , which was not a technical record. For us, that album was all about emotion, it was all about the story, it was all about the vocal performances and the lyrical content," he continued. "And it was more an emotive, personal kind of album. And this time around, it became clear, after we kind of found those couple of key tracks, that this album was very different — it was very technical; it was very in your face; it was very aggressive. And we just loved that they had that contrast, and it just had its own identity and had its own moment in time in the band's catalog now. And yeah, I think because we hadn't kind of shown that skillset for a long time — since 'Venom' — and having starved ourselves of writing in that way, in a sense, that as soon as we did, it was just like four or five years' worth of stuff was just kind of flooding out. It was just a natural thing, and we just rode the wave, and the more we kind of rode it, the more technical and aggressive the songs were becoming. And it was great. It just put a smile on our face that we could showcase the heavier, more technical side of the band."

In December 2021, Tuck was asked by NME whether he thinks BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE 's next album will be a mixture of "Gravity" — which he had previously described as "probably our most mellow/experimental record" — and the self-titled LP. He said: "It really depends. In a year's, two years' time, whenever we decide to kind of get involved with that, we're just gonna do what we do — we're gonna see what comes out, what feels natural, what makes us happy, what makes us scared, what makes us motivated. And coming off the back of 'Gravity' and this album, we're just gonna that whole process of confidence and no-fear attitude into the writing process, and as soon as we start smiling and high-fiving, that's when we'll know we're on the right track."

"Gravity" saw BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE 's catalog surpass one billion streams in the U.S. That accomplishment solidified BULLET 's status as one of the most elite bands in the hard rock scene.

Attention please!! So after 5 long years we're finally heading back to the USA and Canada for a proper headline tour!!... Posted by Bullet for My Valentine on  Tuesday, July 25, 2023

Album review: Bullet For My Valentine – Bullet For My Valentine

Brit metal veterans Bullet For My Valentine scream back to action on their heaviest album ever…

Album review: Bullet For My Valentine – Bullet For My Valentine

Aim! Fire! Scream! After a period of radio static and snippets of voices, the first thing you hear as Parasite blows open the self-titled seventh Bullet For My Valentine album is Matt Tuck screaming ‘ You fucking parasite!’ with all the venom of a recently cuckolded taipan snake. ‘I, I hate you/ I, I hope you choke,’ he continues, as the riffs gnash and froth with equal bile and the solo squeals like something unearthed from thrash metal’s Bay Area heyday. And, for anyone who’s been fervently wishing for Bullet to deliver more words to really choke upon at last, this album is an absolute gift. No sooner has that song crashed to a halt than the serrated Knives slashes in and Matt howls, ‘ Let the madness begin.’ You can picture the pit beginning to boil and it’s an absolutely stunning one-two opening to an album that rarely lets the intensity drop.

2018’s Gravity was hardly a flop - indeed, it saw the band play their biggest ever shows and hit more than a billion catalogue streams in the U.S. alone - but it still managed to divide the opinion of hardcore fans with its shiny stylistic shifts and complete lack of guitar solos. This new album doesn’t just look back to Bullet’s more aggressive earlier material, it actually goes considerably further in parts. It is, perhaps, stylistically closer to the thrash-fuelled momentum of Scream Aim Fire than the jagged metalcore of The Poison, but it captures the youthful fire and aggression of both without the mawkish sixth-form poetry and still-developing songwriting that occasionally marred those first two albums. The end result is the consistently heaviest thing the Welsh outfit has ever put out, but imbued with all the confidence and skills they’ve honed over the intervening decade and a half.

So My Reverie slows things down a breath while still retaining a low-tuned heft. No Happy Ever After races back up the gears with a relentless thrashing riff and some totally monstrous grooves, while Can’t Escape The Waves rides a leviathan of a bass riff through building dynamics that ebb and flow through seething waters. Bastards arrives on a huge circular rhythm and builds into a huge sing-along hard rock anthem with a beating metal heart, before Rainbow Veins introduces splashes of colour via swirling instrumentation and melody. Taken as a whole, the album is far from one-dimensional in its structure and compositions but the defining element remains that of raging aggression and heaviness.

Some of the riffs on here are things of true monstrous beauty. Check out the sheer stomping chunkiness that propels Shatter and Paralysed towards the finish line and then try questioning this band’s metal credentials. It’s a team effort though, with the pummelling rhythms more than playing their parts and Matt Tuck never sounding better. This is Bullet firing on all cylinders and it sounds absolutely immense.

Verdict: 4/5

"This is going to be the metal tour of 2025." Trivium and Bullet For My Valentine announce co-headlining UK tour, playing classic albums Ascendancy and The Poison in full

Two of the biggest metal bands of the modern era will play their two most celebrated albums in full!

Matt Heafy and Matt Tuck on stage

Modern metal heavyweights Trivium and Bullet For My Valentine have announced a blockbuster, co-headline UK tour, where both bands will be performing their beloved breakthrough albums in full. Both Trivum's Ascendancy and Bullet For My Valentine's The Poison turn 20 next year, and to celebrate the occasion, the two bands will join forces by playing those records in their entirety.

The tour was announced at a special press conference (see video below) held at the Sanctum Hotel in Soho, London this evening, Thursday, February 22), following days of speculation after both Trivium and Bullet began teasing activity around those two classic albums on social media.

“Bullet For My Valentine’s The Poison and Trivium’s Ascendancy are two records whose influence can be heard to this day - in the DNA of modern metal,” says Trivium frontman Matt Heafy. “It’s incredible to think of the impact the albums had when they came out in 2005.  They were both like bolts of lightning. Both bands grew up independently of each other in different countries and separately from any movement or scene but both shared a common love of melodic heavy metal at the core; and both had similar meteoric rises right out of the gate.

"Trivium and BFMV were in such whirlwinds when our respective albums came out that we each never truly got to play together or sit back and celebrate during the maelstrom of constant touring, recording and globetrotting," he continues. “But that’s what this anniversary tour is. It’s a celebration by the bands to the fans of an important era, and most importantly it’s an invitation to fans come and have an epic night with us and sing and rage and celebrate the awesome power of the music.”

“I honestly can’t believe it's been 20 years since the release of The Poison and what an incredible 20 years it’s been," comments Bullet frontman Matt Tuck. “I feel so proud of what we've achieved as a band in the last 2 decades and it all started with that debut album. The Poison is such an important part of our lives musically and personally and we know the massive impact it had on the metal world on a global level. This tour will be made even more special as our brothers in Trivium are also joining us on the road to celebrate and play in its entirety their stunning album Ascendancy .

“This is going to be the metal tour of 2025," he concludes. “Bullet For My Valentine and Trivium, The Poisoned Ascendancy World Tour 2025. Celebrating the 20th anniversary of both albums and playing them in their entirety. Get excited people, it's going to be special and we can't wait to celebrate with you all."

The tour will mark the first time the two bands have toured together. See the full list of tour dates below. Tickets go on sale next Friday, March 1 at 10am GMT from this location .

Released on March 15 2005, Ascendancy was Trivium's first album for the prestigious Roadrunner Records , and it saw their popularity skyrocket to place them as one of the most talked about metal bands of their generation. Released seven months later, The Poison , Bullet For My Valentine's debut album, confirmed their status as British metal's great new hopes, landing at an impressive number 21 on the UK album charts.

Late last year, Matt Heafy joined Bullet on stage at a show in Heafy's hometown of Orlando, Florida, to offer guest vocals on smash hit The Poison anthem, Tears Don't Fall .

A general view of the peloton waiting at Olaeta after the neutralisation of the race due to a crash during stage 4 of the 2024 Itzulia Basque Country on 4 April 2024 in Etxarri Legutio, Spain

Jonas Vingegaard’s Tour de France defence in doubt after Basque crash

  • 2022 and 2023 winner fractures collarbone and scapula
  • Twelve riders crash on fourth stage of Basque tour

The Tour de France champion, Jonas Vingegaard, was taken to hospital with a broken collarbone after a serious crash on stage four of the Itzulia Basque Country.

Vingegaard also suffered several broken ribs from the high-speed accident that also included Remco Evenepoel and Primoz Roglic among a group of 12 affected riders. “It was a nasty crash, but fortunately he is stable and conscious. He remains in hospital as a precaution. Thank you for all your messages,” Vingegaard’s team Visma-Lease a Bike said in a statement.

Six riders went to hospital after the incident, including the Australian Jay Vine, who was diagnosed with a fractured cervical vertebra and two fractures in his thoracic spine. “Fortunately, there were no neurological problems and there are no other serious injuries or skull injuries,” Vine’s UAE Team Emirates said in a statement.

Evenepoel’s team Soudal-QuickStep revealed the Belgian must undergo surgery on a fractured collarbone and fractured scapula. Roglic was the least affected of the big-name trio involved and he headed for the team car having received medical attention. The incident took place when the peloton was descending around a tight right-hand bend with less than 40km of the stage to go, one riding sliding out of the road and on to the bank, sparking a chain reaction as more followed.

The race was then neutralised until the finish, with only the six riders who had been at the front being allowed to sprint for the finish to try to win the stage, victory eventually going to the underwhelmed South African Louis Meintjes, who admitted it was a hollow triumph.

“It’s a sad day. I wish all the guys who crashed all the best and wish them a fast recovery,” Mattias Skjelmose, who took the overall race lead from Roglic, said at the finish. “My mind is with the guys who crashed, and right now I am not thinking about the leader’s jersey.”

Vingegaard won the Tour de France in 2022 and 2023 but with this year’s event starting on 29 June, doubt now hangs over his ability to defend his crown.

On Tuesday, the musician announced that she’ll be hitting the road for several spaced-out shows through June, August, and October this year after she canceled her Holified Tour in 2022 , citing artist welfare and the mental-health and economic challenges plaguing those who make music for a living.

The new run of shows includes appearances at Redondo Beach’s Beachlife Festival in May and Seattle Pride in June. She’ll also stop at New York’s Terminal 5 and Toronto’s Rebel in August, before resuming her tour in October with shows in Portland and Vancouver.

Presale tickets go on sale on April 3 at 10 a.m. local time via password WITNESS24, while general tickets will go on sale on April 5 at 10 a.m. local time

Process over outcome: Runner-up finish provides Scottie Scheffler another dose of perspective

Change Text Size

HOUSTON – There’s a Scottie Scheffler story from the old WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play, where after both the 2021 and 2022 events, Scheffler and his wife Meredith had a big dinner with friends in Austin, Texas, his college town.

The 2021 dinner followed a runner-up finish, as Scheffler lost to Billy Horschel in the final match. The next year, it was to celebrate a victory. From the joyful tone at dinner, though, the difference was indecipherable.

This anecdote, first shared on the “Golf. Life. Faith.” podcast, is instructive when evaluating Scheffler’s mentality, which will be a popular point of discussion into next week’s Masters Tournament, where the world’s No. 1 player will eye his second green jacket.

Scheffler finished runner-up to Stephan Jaeger on Sunday at the Texas Children’s Houston Open, missing a 5-footer on the final hole of regulation that would have forced a playoff at Memorial Park Golf Course – and extended his chances of a third consecutive TOUR title in as many starts. It wasn’t meant to be, as Scheffler’s birdie try burned the edge, but his performance in his adopted home state continued a multi-year run of form that has rivaled Tiger Woods at his statistical peak, with the accompanying results.

Behind the scenes with Scottie Scheffler after PLAYERS win

Scheffler earned his first TOUR title at the 2022 WM Phoenix Open, and that was just the precipice. He has recorded 21 top-three finishes on TOUR since that win – no other TOUR player has recorded more than 10 in that span – and he has added seven more TOUR titles, including the 2022 Masters. He leads the TOUR this season in Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green by a wide margin (he averages 2.798 strokes gained per round, nearly a stroke more than No. 2 Xander Schauffele at 1.817.) Last season, Scheffler gained 2.615 strokes per round, nearly seven-tenths of a stroke more than No. 2 Rory McIlroy.

Scheffler, 27, is blessed with incredible talent, only matched by a natural work ethic that allows him to find joy in the process. Practice sessions are fun for him and always have been, dating back to his childhood days when he’d beg his dad for a ride to the range on ice-cold winter days in Montvale, New Jersey, and then at Royal Oaks in Dallas after the Scheffler family moved to Texas.

These tales have been well-told through Scheffler’s rise from acclaimed junior player to college player to Korn Ferry Tour player to PGA TOUR player to PGA TOUR superstar. They’re also a clue as to his sustained form.

Scheffler isn’t driven by the results; he’s driven by the process, having said as recently as last week that his home life hasn’t been changed much by success in professional golf. He’s as fiery as ever inside the ropes – there was a club slam after his second shot found the water on the par-4 16th Friday at Memorial Park – but that demeanor shifts quickly once he exits the arena. After each round last week, he lit up when saying hi to Meredith and friends, offering a smile and his trademark exuberant wave upon recognition.

Following Sunday’s narrow runner-up finish, Scheffler met the media at an interview area adjacent to the player parking lot. It was a mentally taxing week on the course – the central narrative, whether could he become the first to win three straight TOUR starts since 2017, came oh-so-close to fruition – and he had a frictionless exit ramp if he chose to take it. But he returned to the front of the clubhouse, signing for fans and engaging in lighthearted banter with them. That wasn’t for show; it was because he wanted to, and the playful conversational tone suggested that he had already mentally detached from the tournament’s outcome.

“Winning is fun, but it only lasts a few seconds or a few minutes,” he said in Houston. “It's funny, it seems like you think my life would have changed a lot, but it really only has changed out here (on TOUR). At home, it hasn't changed that much. That will change significantly in the next month when our baby comes, that'll be the big change. But at home, no. We still have the same friends, still have a great support system.”

Not only does Scheffler love the game, he’s in love with the game – he appeared happy as a clam in the minutes before his final-round tee time in Houston, carrying a large-sized bucket of range balls and testing himself in different ways: bump-and-run pitch shots, bunker shots, short-sided pitches over the bunker. No entourage nearby, not even caddie Ted Scott (who was close at hand if needed), just Scheffler, a wedge and some practice balls.

That practice served him well as he hit a series of crafty pitches to stay in the mix Sunday – including one from short-right of the par-5 third green, starting on a line 20 feet right of the flag and bumping it off the slope; the ball rolled to 6 feet and he drained the birdie putt.

Scottie Scheffler chips it tight to set up birdie at Houston Open

These types of shots will come in handy at Augusta National, as Memorial Park was a worthy precursor – minimal rough, tightly mown areas around the green that allow for creative short-game decision-making. Scheffler ranked a pedestrian 26th for the week in Strokes Gained: Around-the-Green – down comparatively from his No. 4 ranking this season – but his short game kept him in it down the stretch Sunday, making crafty up-and-downs for par on Nos. 10 and 12 before ultimately finishing one back of his playing partner Jaeger, who made nine consecutive closing pars.

Scheffler would have preferred a victory in the Lone Star State, of course – a stroke-play TOUR title in his adopted home state continues to elude him – but he’ll arrive at Augusta National as the oddsmakers’ clear favorite, and deservingly so. He’ll take this week off before heading to the land of the loblolly pines.

Scheffler’s form is as good as ever, and he knows the Masters will end the same regardless of the outcome – with a goofy wave to his family. Therein lies intangible power.
