Visitor experience.

From the show’s very beginning in 1963, science has played a part in the development of some of the key stories and characters in Doctor Who . Now visitors can explore a variety of these science topics, taking them on a journey from the furthest stars to the depths of the ocean. Find out if time travel is actually possible, and delve into the TARDIS Tech Room to examine the technological capabilities of the Doctor’s gadgets and gizmos. Uncover the secrets of black holes and wormholes, consider the possibilities of life on other planets, and discover the science behind why the TARDIS is bigger on the inside. A visit to the Monster Vault is an opportunity to come face to face with many of the Doctor’s terrifying alien adversaries – and learn about their connections with real science.

The exhibition also explores life on Earth: how weird and wonderful nature has inspired ideas seen in  Doctor Who , and how the natural world is often stranger than fiction. Science is rapidly advancing our understanding of the nature of the universe, and discovering more about ourselves and our precious Earth. But what might DNA manipulation, cloning and artificial intelligence mean for our future? Visitors can explore some of these scientific hot topics, all of which have featured in Doctor Who episodes.

“Outside those doors, we might see anything. We could find new worlds, terrifying monsters, impossible things. And if you come with me… nothing will ever be the same again!”

Vortex Corridor. Begin your journey through the TARDIS doors and pass along walls lined with words of wisdom from real scientists... and the Doctor.

AWARD WINNING CREATIVE TEAM

Following their work on the hugely successful Doctor Who Experience in both London and Cardiff, Sarner International, a renowned international experiential design and production practice, worked closely with BBC Studios to create and produce the brand new touring exhibition, Doctor Who Worlds of Wonder.

Paula Al-Lach, BBC Studios Events Director, Live Entertainment said that the team were “delighted to be working with Sarner again, following their creation of the Doctor Who Experience . It is really exciting to explore Doctor Who from this perspective and have the opportunity to take the exhibition to fans globally.”

Sarner LTD Logo

“For generations the many writers of Doctor Who have written stories inspired by real science - astronomy, astrobiology, quantum physics and nature itself… The exhibition is a celebration of the show but also the amazing breadth of scientific ideas behind it”.
“Exploring some of the fantastic stories and characters from a scientific perspective will bring with it an exciting new way for our audiences to engage with Doctor Who. Props, costumes and other artefacts from the show will help create truly fascinating Worlds of Wonder.”
“So many people who have gone on to work in science have had their interest piqued by watching Doctor Who, and one of the amazing things about the show is its ability to make us wonder. I’m thrilled to be part of the exhibition and I do hope as many curiously minded people as possible take the opportunity to visit.”
“Cleverly designed so that as you walk around, you almost feel you could be in the TARDIS, or perhaps somehow trapped within an episode of the TV series… If the exhibition’s aim is to inspire people to learn more about science, then it worked on me.”
“Just wanted to say how wonderful the Doctor Who exhibit is. Took my daughter and four young grand-daughters today and they spent over two hours in the exhibit. They are aged 4–9 and have only seen a few selected episodes but they enjoyed seeing all the costumes, the interactive elements, how Doctor Who relates to science and nature etc. I wasn't expecting a lot, a few costumes etc but was very pleasantly surprised by the whole exhibit from start to finish. Absolutely fabulous.”

Over the years, many of London’s most iconic landmarks have been used in the Doctor Who TV series. Highlights of those places include:

Southwark Cathedral:

The interior of the cathedral was used in the background in The Lazarus Experiment

Canary Wharf building:

Used during the 2006 episode Doomsday, where the clash between the Daleks, the Cybermen, Torchwood and the Tenth Doctor and his companions took place.

The Brandon Estate:

Known as the Powell Estate in the Doctor Who series, this is the place where Rose, Jackie and Mickkey lived.

St Paul’s Cathedral:

Used twice in the past 4 decades. In 1968 the Cyberman invaded in the fittingly titled ‘The Invasion’, and during the Series 8 Final Dark Water/Death in Heaven as Missy’s minions.

Shakespeare Globe:

Used in The Shakespeare Code, when the Tenth Doctor defeats three evil witch-like Carrionites using the words of Shakespeare and J.K. Rowling.

Tower of London:

The site where the Doctor was imprisoned three times during The Day of the Doctor

Trafalgar Square:

A place that has seen quite a bit of Doctor Who over the years and is of course one of London’s most recognizable landmarks.

Earls Court Tardis:

The site with the most famous police box in the world!

I recently took David’s Doctor Who walking tour in Waterloo, and I must say, it was everything I’d hoped for and more. David’s grasp of both Doctor Who lore and local history was unparalleled, making for a seamlessly educational and entertaining experience. Encountering the Daleks on Westminster Bridge was an absolute highlight, and David’s exploration of the series’ cultural impact left me pondering long after the tour had ended. A must-do for any Doctor Who fan!

dr who tour

David’s guided tour was a masterclass in blending fact and fiction. I was especially captivated by the segment that focused on the internal BBC politics that influenced the series. I walked away not only a more knowledgeable Doctor Who fan but also more informed about the vibrant history of Waterloo and the Southbank. Highly recommended!

This walking tour is unique in its approach — it’s not often you find a tour that balances pop culture and historical elements so well. David’s storytelling skill kept us engaged as he delved into the diverse time periods and dimensions of Doctor Who. The moment we talked about the Sonic Screwdriver near the London Eye was unforgettable. A sublime experience!

I cannot praise David’s Doctor Who tour enough. His engaging manner and deep-rooted knowledge of the series and the Waterloo area were impressive. Learning about Charlie Chaplin’s influence on the Doctor’s second regeneration was an unexpected but delightful twist. Even non-Whovians would enjoy this carefully curated experience.

David is not just a tour guide; he’s an experience-maker. The way he linked the Mandela effect theory with the series was ingenious. I loved how the tour covered not only the show’s iconic landmarks but also offered an insider look into the local history of Waterloo. This is not a mere fan pilgrimage, but a sophisticated, multi-layered tour.

David’s tour was like stepping into a living encyclopedia of Doctor Who and London history. Each site we visited, from the Seacole statue to the Southbank, felt like a page out of a storybook. The little-known facts about the Doctor Who movie that never was added an air of mystery. All in all, an outstanding experience that shouldn’t be missed!

History of “Doctor Who” in Cardiff

The connection between “Doctor Who” and Cardiff goes back to the year 2005 when the series was revived after a 16-year hiatus. The new series was primarily filmed in and around the scenic city of Cardiff, bringing new life to the iconic show.

Cardiff provided the production team with diverse landscapes and architectural features, making it the perfect backdrop for the Doctor’s adventures. The city’s mix of modern and historic locations offered endless possibilities for creating the alien worlds and futuristic settings that fans have come to love.

One of the most significant contributions of Cardiff to the series is the creation of the Doctor’s famous time machine, the TARDIS. The design of the TARDIS exterior, resembling a British police telephone box, became a hallmark of the series. The Cardiff-based company, Imaginarium Studios, constructed the first TARDIS prop for the revived series, which became an instant hit among fans.

As the series gained popularity, Cardiff became a hotspot for “Doctor Who” fans from around the world. The city embraced its role as the home of the Doctor, with numerous attractions and events dedicated to the series. From guided tours to official exhibitions, Cardiff offers an immersive experience for fans seeking to dive deeper into the world of “Doctor Who.”

Cardiff’s contribution to “Doctor Who” goes beyond its role as a filming location. The city has also produced notable talent for the series. Several writers and producers, including Russell T. Davies and Steven Moffat, hail from Cardiff, adding to the show’s Welsh connections.

Today, Cardiff continues to be a hub for “Doctor Who” enthusiasts. Fans can explore iconic locations featured in the series and even take part in TARDIS tours, getting an up-close look at the sets and props used in the show. Cardiff’s deep-rooted connection to “Doctor Who” is a testament to the lasting impact and enduring popularity of this beloved television series.

Cardiff Bay, located in the heart of the city, is a vibrant waterfront area that has played a prominent role in “Doctor Who.” This scenic locale has been featured in numerous episodes, captivating audiences with its stunning views and iconic landmarks.

One of the most recognizable landmarks in Cardiff Bay is the Wales Millennium Centre, which has served as the backdrop for several pivotal scenes in the series. This architectural masterpiece with its distinct exterior design has been transformed into various alien worlds and futuristic settings, leaving fans in awe of its versatility.

As you stroll along the bay, you’ll also come across the Roald Dahl Plass, a public plaza that features a mesmerizing water fountain. This open space has been featured in several episodes of “Doctor Who,” most notably as a landing spot for the TARDIS. Stand in the very spot where the Doctor and his companions have landed in their time-traveling spaceship.

Cardiff Bay is not only a filming location but also offers a range of attractions for visitors to enjoy. From restaurants and cafes to shopping and entertainment venues, the area has something for everyone. Take a leisurely boat ride along the bay, or simply relax and soak in the scenic views while enjoying a cup of coffee.

Whether you’re a fan of the show or simply appreciate beautiful waterfront settings, Cardiff Bay is a must-visit destination. Immerse yourself in the world of “Doctor Who” as you explore the iconic landmarks that have become synonymous with the series.

Cardiff Castle

No tour of Cardiff would be complete without a visit to the magnificent Cardiff Castle. This historic castle, located in the city center, has not only played a significant role in Welsh history but has also made appearances in “Doctor Who.”

The castle, with its imposing walls and medieval architecture, has been featured in multiple episodes of the series. Its grandeur and unique blend of Roman, Norman, and Gothic influences make it the perfect setting for scenes that depict ancient civilizations and time periods.

Step inside the castle grounds and walk in the footsteps of the Doctor as you explore its majestic interior. Marvel at the intricate details of the rooms, from the opulent Banqueting Hall to the enchanting Arab Room, which features vivid Moorish décor.

Keep an eye out for the iconic Clock Tower, often used as a visual reference point in “Doctor Who” episodes. With its distinctive shape and prominent position within the castle walls, the Clock Tower adds an extra layer of authenticity to the series’ medieval settings.

For “Doctor Who” fans, Cardiff Castle offers an opportunity to experience the series in a whole new way. Imagine the Doctor battling alien adversaries within these ancient walls or interacting with historical figures across different time periods.

Aside from its “Doctor Who” connections, Cardiff Castle is a significant cultural and historical landmark in its own right. Take a guided tour to learn more about its fascinating past, or simply wander through the beautiful gardens and take in the panoramic views of the city.

At certain times throughout the year, the castle also hosts special events and exhibitions related to the series. Keep an eye out for these unique opportunities to further immerse yourself in the world of “Doctor Who” while exploring the rich history of Cardiff Castle.

Make sure to add Cardiff Castle to your “Doctor Who” self-guided tour itinerary. It’s a place where past and present converge, providing a memorable experience for fans and history enthusiasts alike.

An aspiring medical student was left brain dead last month when his friends pushed him into a Louisiana lake knowing he couldn’t swim — and then looked on while doing nothing to save the drowning man, according to a report.

Shocking video shows the group casually peering into the water moments after they shoved Christopher Gilbert off the dock at Lake D’Arbonne in Farmerville on April 14.

At least one woman can be seen slowly entering the water before abandoning the rescue mission.

It was another 10 minutes before a patron at a nearby restaurant intervened and yanked Gilbert back to land — just in the nick of time.

Christopher Gilbert was hospitalized after being submerged underwater for nearly 5 minutes after a group of people allegedly pushed him off a dock into a lake on April 14.

The 26-year-old was brain dead and the rest of his organs were starting to fail by the time he arrived at a local hospital, his mother Yolanda George told KSLA.

He spent 72 hours on a ventilator and an ECMO machine, which George described as “dialysis for the lungs.”

“I was devastated. I felt like my life had ended in that moment. My son is aspiring to be a medical doctor, my son is going to be a medical doctor. He got his masters last year in biological science. He’s preparing for medical school so for this to have happened to him … I was just devastated,” George said.

According to police, his so-called friends initially tried to pass off the near-death as “horse-play.”

Shocking video shows the group casually peering into the water moments after they shoved Gilbert off the dock at Lake D’Arbonne in Farmerville on April 14.

They even told the lie to George in the moments after he was rescued: “A friend of his called and she was hysterical crying. She told me that Chris has fell into the lake and he had been underwater for 10 minutes or so,” the mother said.

Eventually, a white female around the same age as Gilbert admitted to pushing him into the lake.

None of the friends, however, admitted to knowing he couldn’t swim — a claim Gilbert’s family finds hard to believe.

Never miss a story.

“To add insult to injury, after pushing him, no one from the ‘friend group’ attempted to go in after him. Instead, two brave bystanders, who have no relationship to Chris, heard commotion and retrieved his body from the lake,” personal injury attorney Claudia Payne, representing George, wrote in a report obtained by the Lincoln Parish Journal.

Fortunately, Gilbert has made strides since the ruthless attack.

He is responding cognitively, but cannot speak, according to George. He still relies on life support and his lungs are said to be at 20% capacity.

The 26-year-old was brain dead and the rest of his organs were starting to fail by the time he arrived at a local hospital.

The family is also demanding that an arrest be made in the tragic incident, with Payne saying the friends displayed criminal intent by pushing him into the lake.

“Why would you push my son in the lake knowing he couldn’t swim?” asked George.
