Thank you for highlighting OHIO, the most beautiful of the fifty. A Korean War Veteran, I have been all over our nation but would never leave Ohio where I have lived for 91 f my 93 years. Ohio’s leadership in almost every manufacturing area is renown but SADLY most of Ohio’s manufacturers have un-patriotically moved their production to China and elsewhere. We are hoping that Ohioans will realize their blunder and bring their businesses back home where it belongs.

Thank you for your service, Donald!

As fellow Ohioans (Toledo), we highlighted Ohio factory tours first. It is sad how many have moved overseas. I’m glad 2 of my favorites, KitchenAid mixers and Wooster paint brushes , are still here. I hope they will remain made in the USA!

Does your company make OR know where I can purchase an AMERICAN MADE and assembled in USA -countertop residential ice cube maker –? TIRED of making my hand AND so sick of buying CHINA made products -poor quality ty

Hi Lisa, Unfortunately, we haven’t been able to find residential ice makers made in the USA. There are a few commercial options manufactured in the USA but they’re in the 4-7 thousand dollar range and probably not at all what you are looking for. If I become aware of anything, I’ll certainly update and please let us know if you find one 🙂

Spangler Candy Company Ohio factory tours

These Ohio factory tours and museum tours spotlight unique products made with pride only in the Buckeye State

Whether your group has a sweet tooth or prefers the action of the gridiron, these Ohio factory tours and museum tours are sure to pique your interest. The state’s strong industrial legacy has resulted in a region filled with American-made products and welcoming guides ready to offer you behind-the scenes glimpses into the manufacturing process.

The American Whistle Corporation

The only manufacturer of metal whistles in the United States entertains guests with a 45-minute tour of the factory floor. The company creates custom whistles for everyone from police officers to Super Bowl referees, and groups will see the product start as a sheet of brass before being run through a 39-ton press and customized with a die-strike. Each experience comes with a free whistle and history of the whistles’ use in everything from sports to safety.

Wilson Football Factory

The hometown of iconic Ohio State University football coach Jim Tressel is also home to the world’s only dedicated football factory. Wilson produces over 700,000 leather balls every year, including every ball that’s appeared in an NFL game since 1941. Workers will explain how these iconic balls are made from an inflated rubber bladder and wrapped in pebbled cowhide leather, and you’ll have the opportunity to bring back a souvenir slice of leather for friends and family back home.

Every KitchenAid mixer in the world is assembled here, and its one-hour walking tour includes a historical display area, the powder paint room, the sub-assembly building and a testing lab. You’ll learn about the different parts that go into these iconic mixers and the manufacturing and distribution process.

Airstream Factory Tour

Jackson Center

These iconic campers, easily recognized by their polished aluminum bodies and art moderne design, have been manufactured in northwest Ohio since the 1950s. Daily weekday Ohio factory tours transport guests through the factory floor to witness the assembly of windows, wheels and doors. Later, your group can stop by the service center store for Airstream apparel and gifts.

Ernest Warther Museum and Gardens

The World’s Master Carver, Ernest Warther created hundreds of intricate wood carvings out of his Dover home. Despite having only a 2nd grade education, Warther created stunningly accurate scale models of trains and ships, and you can view these beautiful ivory-and-walnut creations while learning about the woodcarving process from a tour guide.

P. Graham Dunn

Originally operated out of a chicken coop in the heart of Ohio Amish Country, this home décor brand is now flourishing as a nationally-renowned furniture producer seven generations later. Visitors enter the lobby to overlook the manufacturing and admire the elaborate crown molding and grand staircase before exploring the 20,000-square-foot gift shop. A free factory tour offers a behind-the-scenes look at how each furniture piece is handmade instead of run through an assembly line, and the building’s laser-engraving center can personalize a product in minutes.

Spangler Candy World

Confectioner of iconic candy such as Dum Dums and Circus Peanuts, the Spangler Candy Company has been making Americans’ lives sweeter since 1906. Spangler Candy World in downtown Bryan is an interactive experience for all ages with historical displays, games, activities and a big-screen theater tour of the factory. Don’t miss a visit to the retail store to pick up some of your favorite sweet treats or candy-themed merchandise.

$40 million Jeep Experience museum opening in Toledo, Ohio

56,000-square-foot interactive museum will be inaugurated in 2022.

factory tours ohio

Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles ( FCA ) is helping a nonprofit organization open a Jeep museum in Toledo, Ohio. Called The Jeep Experience, the $40 million museum is expected to open its doors in 2022.

Jeep has manufactured its off-roaders in Toledo since the 1940s, and local enthusiasts have spent years seeking a way to bring a museum to the town. Randy Oostra, the president and CEO of health care company ProMedica, played an instrumental role in making the museum happen, according to the Toledo Blade . He floated the original idea, and it quickly received the support of FCA leadership.

"They've been incredibly involved with all the planning. They want to be involved with future decisions and the board," Oostra told the  Blade . He added FCA could help fund the project.

Funding is key; Oostra won't settle for putting a couple of vintage Jeep models in a dusty warehouse and calling it a day. His team is drawing inspiration from the Harley-Davidson museum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and from the Chevrolet Corvette museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky, to allow visitors to immerse themselves in Jeep's vast heritage. He notably envisions interactive exhibits.

"When you think about all of the opportunities, whether it's history, what's happened in automotive, World War II, they use Jeeps in ' Jurassic Park ,' and then you look at engineering and design, and production and art, you begin to think about it from a whole variety of opportunities," he explained.

It sounds like dinosaurs, soldiers, and off-roading will all be on the menu. The Jeep Experience will be housed in an existing, 56,000-square-foot building located in metropolitan Toledo, but its exact address won't be announced until Oostra's nonprofit closes the deal. And, while Toledo is well off the tourist circuit, museum planners expect to attract approximately 250,000 visitors annually.

Robin Whitney, ProMedica's chief strategic planning, business development, and real estate officer revealed the group will offer basic food services. We love the idea of a Jeep-themed restaurant. It's also open to building a hotel next to the property if needed. All told, the museum will create 25 jobs in the Toledo area, though that number could grow depending on the amenities offered.

Oostra and his team still have several hurdles to clear before they can give fans the opportunity to learn about the CJ-5 (pictured) by jumping one on a muddy off-road trail a stone's throw from where Jeep makes the Wrangler and the Gladiator . They've launched a fund-raising campaign expected to last for approximately a year and a half. Design work will begin in early 2021, which is also when planners will begin assembling cars, and the museum is tentatively scheduled to welcome its first visitors by the end of 2022. Oostra promised the building will receive a striking design.
