Everyone has their favorite hotel brand they’d go to great lengths to stay with, and for me, it’s Hyatt. Their line of hotels stands out for exceptional service and unique amenities that keep me coming back for more. And with the rewards program, you can get some amazing value staying at a Hyatt hotel, especially many of the ones in Florida!
I have stayed at over twenty different Hyatt hotels in Florida and wanted to share my favorites for location, amenities, and value with this guide. From the forests of the northern border to the sunlit shores of the south, this guide explains why each of these properties deserves a spot on your travel itinerary.
Table of Contents
Southern Florida
I am starting with South Florida because this area offers the greatest number of Hyatt hotels, as well as some of the most luxurious. These eight options offer unique city or beach experiences in Florida’s top vacation destinations. I have stayed at all of these besides the one in Key West and am here to explain the pros and cons of each!
1. The Andaz Miami (Formerly: The Confidante)
- Location: 4041 Collins Ave, Miami Beach, FL 33140
- Category: Not yet announced (Likely at least Category 6)
- Amenities: Beach Access, Pool, Fitness Center, Spa
Starting off this list with one of the most hyped-up Hyatt hotels: The Andaz Miami. This hotel is in the process of being renovated from The Confidante to reinvigorate it with the art-deco elegance of Miami Beach. Its oceanfront location is unbeatable, with luxurious hotels all around and amazing balcony views.
The Andaz brand tends to cater to couples and adult groups, however families are plentiful along the beach as well. In addition to the ocean, you can expect a stylish pool area, a five-star on-site restaurant, and unique entertainment offerings. For those wanting the ultimate South Beach vacation, check it out for the opening later this year!
2. Hyatt Regency Coral Gables
- Location: 50 Alhambra Plaza, Coral Gables, FL 33134
- Category 4: 12,000 to 18,000 points per night
- Amenities: Pool and Hot Tub, Fitness Center, Discounts on Local Experiences
Though South Beach gets all the attention, I find the Hyatt Regency of Coral Gables to be a hidden gem for a more laid-back Miami vacation. Inspired by Spanish architecture, this hotel offers a luxurious atmosphere within walking distance of Miracle Mile, where there are shopping and dining options galore.
In addition to being more affordable than South Beach, with cheaper parking and resort fees, the location makes it easier to get around to different parts of Miami like Little Havana and Brickell without having to deal with beachside traffic. Between this and the gorgeous Mediterranean pool, a stay here makes it easy to get into the sunshine state of mind.
3. Hyatt Centric Las Olas
- Location: 100 E Las Olas Blvd, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301
- Amenities: Rooftop Pool, Fitness Center
Looking to experience a Florida beach city without all the stress of Miami? Fort Lauderdale is always an excellent option, and a stay at the Hyatt Centric Las Olas makes for a modern, yet relaxing experience.
Situated in downtown Fort Lauderdale, this hotel puts guests in the middle of the action, from the bustling Las Olas Boulevard to the serene Riverwalk. It’s ideal for urban explorers looking to discover the city’s best shopping, dining, and entertainment. In between seafood dinners and canal tours, be sure to enjoy the rooftop pool and the Room 901 speakeasy.
4. Hyatt Place Boca Raton
- Location: 100 E Palmetto Park Rd, Boca Raton, FL 33432
- Amenities: Rooftop Pool, Free Breakfast, Fitness Center
Just a bit north of South Florida’s tourism meccas, the Hyatt Place Boca Raton is an oasis for those looking to enjoy upscale shopping, dining, and beaches. This modern hotel is in a walkable area with access to the Brightline High-Speed Rail for easy transportation. There’s also a rooftop pool and free breakfast.
I find this to be an ideal spot to enjoy both the Palm Beaches and Fort Lauderdale or Miami, while also having a retreat to decompress at the end of the day. And if you rather just relax at the beaches, there are dozens of beach accesses within a 10-minute drive or bike ride.
It’s hard to believe you can get a deal like this in the middle of such an extravagant city, but it lives up to the hype and lets you save a bit to use towards meals and souvenirs!
5. Hyatt House Naples
- Location: 1345 5th Ave S, Naples, FL 34102
- Category 5: 17,000 to 23,000 points per night
- Amenities: Pool, Hot Tub, Fire Pits, Marine, Free Breakfast, Fitness Center
Over on the Gulf Coast, Naples is an absolute paradise for water lovers. Though Hyatt House hotels can often be plain, the Hyatt House Naples is a diamond in the rough . Here, you will find a tropical-themed hotel with spacious guestrooms and a beautiful pool next to a marina.
Though this hotel is not on the beach, it’s less than a ten-minute drive away. You can also enjoy all the amazing restaurants of 5th Ave South, like Osteria Tulia and Bha! Bha! Persian Bistro.
For those wanting an island escape, I can’t recommend this hotel enough. We had the most relaxing trip chilling on our balcony, making breakfast and lunch in the kitchenette and spending the afternoon on the water.
6. Hyatt Centric Key West
- Location: 601 Front St, Key West, FL 33040
- Category 8: 35,000 to 45,000 points per night
- Amenities: Beachfront, Pool, Hot Tub, Firepits, Entertainment, Bike Rentals, Spa, Fitness Center
One hotel I have yet to stay at is the Hyatt Centric Key West, but it’s definitely on my list. This resort is conveniently located near Duval Street and situated right on the water for breathtaking sunset views.
If you stay in Key West, you need to stay within walking distance of Mallory Square to get the full experience and this hotel fits the bill. Between the dockside dining, pool, spa, marina access, and Floribbean vibes, there is no better place to stay in Key West!
7. Hyatt Regency Sarasota
- Location: 1000 Boulevard of the Arts, Sarasota, FL 34236
- Amenities: Pool, Bike Rentals Paddleboard Rentals, Marina Fishing, Free Shuttle, Entertainment, Fitness Center
It’s been a few years and I still haven’t been able to stop raving about our stay at the incredible Hyatt Regency Sarasota . This gem is perfectly situated on the edge of Downtown, so you can enjoy both the beaches and dining of Sarasota.
If you want to explore the Gulf Coast’s natural beauty, the kayak and paddleboard rentals included make for an invigorating experience. And all ages will appreciate the fun pool, complete with a waterfall and slide. Though the rooms are a bit dated, the location and amenities still earn this Hyatt hotel a spot on my favorites list.
8. Hyatt Regency Coconut Point
- Location: 5001 Coconut Rd, Bonita Springs, FL 34134
- Amenities: Private Island, Pool with Water Slides, Nature Trails, Fire Pits, Spa, Games, Entertainment, Rock Wall, Fitness Center
Last but not least is a place I recommend splurging for if you want an all-out South Florida beach vacation. Situated near Naples and Fort Myers, the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point is an escape into luxury with its sprawling pools, waterpark, and proximity to the Everglades. This is a beloved spot for families, although those without kids can get some relaxation at the quiet pool or golf course.
The amenities are endless here, with water slides, a lazy river, a beach ferry, and lots of entertainment. It’s basically like a cruise ship on land! You can easily stay at the resort the whole time, but I recommend venturing out for a boat tour or a nature hike if you have time.
Central Florida
Next up is Central Florida, home to Hyatt Place hotels galore in the popular tourism areas. However, I have found some worthwhile resorts that make for a more unique vacation than your typical trip to Disney World or Clearwater. Here are the places I love to stay at whenever I am vacationing in the area.
9. Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay
- Location: 2900 Bayport Dr, Tampa, FL 33607
- Category 3: 9,000 to 15,000 points per night
- Amenities: Pools, Hot Tub, Bike Rental, Tennis and Pickleball Courts, Fitness Center
The Grand Hyatt Tampa is a hotel like no other. It sits on a nature preserve on the edge of the bay and offers stunning nature views and an expansive area to explore. We only spent a weekend here, but we could have stayed for a week and still not have explored it all!
This resort is home to two large pools, a marina, a 9.5-mile long nature trail and multiple restaurants. It’s also close to the Tampa airport, Downtown Tampa and Clearwater. The location is just the right spot for being a short drive to Tampa’s attractions while providing a secluded retreat from the city, making it the best of both worlds!
10. Hyatt House Across from Universal Orlando Resort
- Location: 5940 Caravan Ct, Orlando, FL 32819
- Amenities: Pool, Free Breakfast, Transportation to Universal
Orlando on a budget is not an easy thing to do, but if you want to try, I recommend this Hyatt House on I-Drive. It’s a convenient location minutes from Universal, SeaWorld, The Pointe, and other attractions and dining. The drive from Disney and the airport is reasonable as well, and best of all, it is much nicer than your average Hyatt House.
The décor is tropically themed with a bit of a modern Tulum theme going on. A sprawling pool, free breakfast, and large rooms make it amazing for anyone checking out the theme parks. I also love the on-site Universal Hotel Sapphire Falls, I often can’t resist the affordable rates to stay here!
11. Hyatt Place St. Petersburg
- Location: 25 2nd St N, St. Petersburg, FL 33701
Potentially my favorite Central Florida Hyatt, the Hyatt Place St. Petersburg makes it easy to immerse yourself in the vibrant Downtown area. You can walk nearly everywhere from this hotel, including the pier, Tropicana Field, breweries, museums and so much more. And with free breakfast and a rooftop pool, it makes for an easygoing retreat.
Though it’s not on the beach, I prefer staying in this part of St. Petersburg and taking advantage of this part of the city, with occasional visits to the beaches of Fort De Soto. And be sure to check out some of my must-visit spots like Paradeco Coffee Roasters, Cycle Brewing, and Stillwaters Tavern.
12. Hyatt Place Tampa Downtown
- Location: 325 N Florida Ave, Tampa, FL 33602
Another lodging option for the Central Florida city experience is the Hyatt Place Tampa Downtown . This is a modern high-rise in the middle of Cigar City.
Though you are still about half an hour from the beach here, this hotel lets visitors take advantage of all the city’s attractions, including sporting games, museums, dining, and the riverfront.
The walkability is top-notch, with dozens of coffee shops, restaurants, breweries, and shopping in the surrounding area. This spot also has a pool and onsite restaurant for those who want to kick back. And with Busch Gardens only ten minutes away, a stay downtown can be a choose-your-own-adventure type of trip.
13. Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress
- Location: 1 Grand Cypress Blvd, Orlando, FL 32836
- Amenities: Pool with Slide, Transportation to Theme Parks, Sports Courts, Bike Rentals, Rock Wall, Watercraft Rentals, Mini Golf, Spa, Fitness Center, Walking Trails, Entertainment
As someone who grew up going to on-property Disney World hotels, it shocks me to stay this, but the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress is my go-to for Disney trips . Just minutes from Disney Springs, it offers an escape with its private lake, golf courses, and lagoon-style pool-and it’s a fraction of the cost of a Disney World hotel!
You could easily spend a week here and not leave the hotel. There are a variety of restaurants, outdoor activities, and entertainment options to keep most busy. However, it’s also a relatively short drive or Uber from Disney World so don’t hesitate to visit The Mouse. And though it’s popular with families, the place is so large that guests rarely have issues with crowds.
14. Hyatt Regency Clearwater Beach Resort and Spa
- Location: 301 S Gulfview Blvd, Clearwater Beach, FL 33767
- Category 6: 21,000 to 29,000 points per night
- Amenities: Beach Access, Pool, Fitness Center, Bike Rentals
If you haven’t noticed, there are very few beachfront Hyatt hotels in Florida, surprisingly! However, the Hyatt Regency in Clearwater is one of the most beloved options in the state and sits conveniently right on the gorgeous Gulf Coast.
This is the perfect getaway location with tons of dining and entertainment options within walking distance of the hotel. It’s a pricey place to stay, but if you do, make sure to take full advantage of the amazing beach and pool.
Northern Florida
I’ll end this guide with North Florida, which tends to be an overlooked part of the state. Because of that, there are not as many Hyatt hotels here. However, I have found a few that make me want to continue visiting this part of Florida and exploring its less-trodden areas.
15. Hyatt Place Gainesville
- Location: 212 SE 1st St, Gainesville, FL 32601
- Amenities: P ool, Free Breakfast, Fitness Centers
Though Gainesville is an unlikely vacation destination, you can actually have an awesome trip here by staying at this Hyatt . It’s located conveniently downtown where there are dozens of restaurants, bars, and coffee shops to enjoy.
Of course, this is ideal if you are going to visit the University of Florida or attend a football team, but it’s also a nice hub for exploring the nearby freshwater springs. We have taken a few trips here and love that you can enjoy lots of nature, without sacrificing on dining and amenities.
16. Hyatt Place Panama City Beach
- Location: 15727 Front Beach Rd, Panama City Beach, FL 32413
- Category 5: 17,000 to 23,000 points per nigh t
- Amenities: Beach Access, Lazy River, Pool, Entertainment, Games, Fitness Center
The Panhandle is one of Florida’s most coveted beach destinations and this Hyatt Place puts you steps away from the ocean. This is an excellent option for a beach vacation because you can experience both the beach and pool which even has a lazy river!
In addition to the location, the hotel also has a modern style and updated amenities that many travelers appreciate. This is definitely a popular hotel, so be sure to book in advance if you want to use Hyatt points!
17. Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront
- Location: 225 E Coastline Dr, Jacksonville, FL 32202
For a top-notch vacation at a low price, the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville is one of my top recommendations. We stayed here when we were in town for a concert and found this city retreat to be perfect for exploring the downtown.
Though the hotel is older than me, the rooms were still well-appointed and comfortable. There is also a rooftop pool and beautiful views of the city. Make sure to check out the nearby San Marco neighborhood, which has some of the cutest shops and cafes!
18. Hyatt Place St. Augustine/Vilano
- Location: 117 Vilano Rd, St. Augustine, FL 32084
One of Florida’s newest Hyatt hotels is the Hyatt Place St. Augustine/Vilano , which is just a short walk from the beach. This isn’t my top pick for St. Augustine hotels, because it’s a 10-minute drive from the Historic District where most of the action is. However, if you rather spend more time at the beach, this art deco-style resort fits the bill!
This Hyatt Place has everything you need to relax, from a rooftop pool to rooms with a balcony that look out onto the Atlantic. I recommend bringing bikes or renting them so that you can easily discover all that St. Augustine has to offer during your stay.

Key West is a tiny island located at the southern tip of the famed archipelago known as the Florida Keys. Renowned for its coral reefs, diving, snorkeling, and laid-back, vacation mode mentality, Key West attracts sun seekers from all over the world.
Key West is approximately 100 miles from Miami, and is only 90 miles to Havana, Cuba. Known as the southernmost city of the continental United States, Key West offers crystal clear waters, great weather, an array of watersports, excellent seafood, and a vibrant bar scene.
With Jimmy Buffet’s iconic song “Margaritaville” playing in my mind as the theme song, I had been dreaming of visiting this seemingly carefree destination for years. Key West is a perfect relaxed beach destination for couples, group trips, and families. It is truly a little island paradise, and and is easily accessible by car from Miami.
Here’s my ultimate guide to Key West with the best hotels, tours, beaches, nightlife, picturesque locations, hidden gems, and more!
My Experience In Key West
I once saw a photo of a chicken standing on a white sand beach next to a palm tree, with crystal blue water in the background. That image stuck in my mind as epitomizing Key West. I want to go there I said to myself. I want that laid-back island vibe to soak into my soul.
Ten years later, in February 2024, I arrived in Key West in the pouring rain. It was cold, overcast, and windy but the moment I stepped inside a colorful restaurant on Duval Street and saw frozen margaritas and shrimp and grits on the menu, all my worries began to fade away.
Key West is the opposite of pretentious. The vibe in Key West is: flip flops, beach bars, live music, chickens, cats, and horses in the street, salt in your hair, sun on your skin, the friendliest people, and the prettiest aqua-green ocean washing your worries away.
Key West is a destination centered around fun. It’s a tiny 2 x 4 mile island and yet there are over 300 bars to choose from! Around every turn, there is some new variation of fun going on and you can’t help but get caught up in the blissful mentality.
There are so many places to visit in the world, but Key West is a place I know I will return to. I love the laid-back island vibe it exudes and I can’t wait to visit in the balmy heat of summer when it’s so warm a bikini is the only thing I will need to pack. Paradise found.
Where I Stayed In Key West
Ideally situated, overlooking Sunset Pier and the crystal blue waters of the Gulf of Mexico, Ocean Key Resort & Spa is one of the island’s top luxury destinations. Raked ‘Top 10 Resorts in the Florida Keys’ by Condé Nast Traveler and ‘Top 15 Resorts in Florida’ by Travel + Leisure for 2023, Ocean Key Resort has been a favorite of locals and tourists for years.
Located next to Mallory Square in historic Old Town Key West, Ocean Key Resort provides the ideal home away from home to explore everything Key West has to offer. From the resort, you can easily explore downtown Key West on foot or walk down the street to Key West Harbor where an array of water tours await you.
All the rooms at Ocean Key Resort feature local art and eclectic hand-painted furnishings. Each room comes with a private balcony and view of the Gulf of Mexico or Key West’s historic Duval Street. Highlights include Sunset Pier, a high-end spa, the cute mini Rum Bar in the lobby, oversized showers, and delicious daily breakfasts. I loved how spotlessly clean the rooms and property were.
I also loved the dreamy Liquid Pool Bar & Lounge overlooking Sunset Pier and the ocean. This is the perfect place to spend an afternoon enjoying cocktails in the sunshine with a stunning view of the aqua sea. The decadent dinner I experienced at Ocean Key Resort’s upscale, romantic, oceanfront restaurant, Hot Tin Roof , was top-notch and not to be missed.
I would definitely stay at Ocean Key Resort & Spa again next time I visit the Keys. I highly recommend it as an ideal hotel to book for a special occasion and for exploring the best of Key West.

- Garbo’s Grill – This Korean BBQ street vendor has a small menu of classic and fusion dishes that packs a lot of punch.
- Alonzo’s Oyster Bar – This laidback seafood restaurant prides itself on being the only restaurant in Key West that has water on three sides, but we think it should boast more about its delicious crab – which is hands down the best crab I’ve had anywhere! Visit between 4:30 and 6pm to take advantage of their famous daily happy hour.

There’s a bar and a party in Key West for every theme and every day of your vacation. From my experience, here’s a list of 10 best of the best bars in Key West .
- Captain Tony’s Saloon – A quintessentially Key West bar steeped in history that’ll always have a barstool free for a cold one after a long day in the sun. If you’re feeling brave, try their signature Pirate Punch.
- General Horseplay – Priding themselves on craft cocktails, go there for the spicy margaritas and stay for the tomfoolery.
- Pickles Pub Sandbar – This modern sports bar serves cool drinks and comfort food, and showcases great live bands.
- The Roost – This sophisticated hidden gem has happy hour from 12-6pm and specializes in unique craft cocktails and is a welcome refresher from the chaos and liveliness of Duval Street.
- 22 & Co – If glitter, tutus and flamingoes are more your vibe, head to 22 & Co. This unicorn-inspired fun house offers fresh cocktails and magical vibes for a great night.
- Hog’s Breath Saloon – This pub is a favorite hang of the locals and offers classic drinks with a superb program of live music.
- Fogarty’s & The Flying Monkey Saloon – Located on Duval Street, this lively bar is well-known for its frozen cocktails – the frozen daiquiri isn’t for the faint-hearted.
- Mary Ellen’s Bar & Kitchen – This lively and eccentric bar serves comfort food like gourmet grilled cheese and always has something going on at night – its charity vibrator races are a real local event!
- Sunset Pier – Next to Mallory Square, this pier is a delight of music and festivities. Enjoy a Caribbean cocktail at the tiki bar and pull up a stool to enjoy the sunset view from the best seat in the house.
- White Tarpon – Here you can have the famous Key Lime Martini while admiring sweeping views of the harbor.
The Best Time To Visit to Key West
During the winter months (November – February) the weather is cooler but pleasant at around 75-80 degrees; the water is 70-74 degrees. During the summer months, the weather is very hot and humid and there’s always the risk of the odd hurricane or storm disrupting your vacation.
The water temperature can also get to a not-so-refreshing 86 degrees, but if you want to swim in a tropical bath with plenty of colorful sea life, then head to Key West during the summer.
Due to the excessive summer heat, (which I love, but know many find unappealing) high season in Key West is during the winter months. So in winter expect high season prices and lots of tourists.
March to May is a good time to visit Key West if you want to take advantage of warm weather and fewer crowds.
How to Get to Key West
You can fly into Key West International Airport, but this option can be pricey. As a more affordable alternative, you can fly into Miami International Airport (MIA), rent a car and drive to the Keys.
I chose to hire a driver from Daytrip to drive me from Miami to Key West so that I could fully enjoy the gorgeous views. The drive is easy and takes about 3.5 hours with no stops. But I recommend making a few stops along the way to explore other Keys and to take in the stunning scenery along the way.
Once in Key West, the city is very walkable but you can also cycle – many resorts have bicycles available to hire for you to do this. There’s also a hop-on, hop-off bus, and Uber. Or you can even rent a golf cart!
Key West Ultimate Guide Wrap Up
If you’re chasing a laid-back island vibe for your next vacation, I highly recommend checking out Key West. It’s a perfect long weekend getaway to add to your next Miami trip. Pack your flip-flops and your swimsuit and be ready for relaxed fun in the sun!

Solo female travel florida: how to plan an amazing trip.

Florida is, without a doubt, one of the most popular states to visit in the United States. And Florida isn’t just limited to Disney World, either, although I admittedly have tons of fond memories of Disney and Orlando as a child and young adult.
Florida is a huge state, with endless miles of coastline, as well as diverse cities and ecological wonders. Florida has a very strong hospitality industry due to the state’s many attractions and abundance of international and domestic airports.
Seriously, I think Newark has over 10 direct flights per day to Fort Myers in the winter months when people want to escape the cold. And that’s only one city.
Due to its popularity, I was inspired to write a solo female travel Florida guide to help you brainstorm your vacation. After all, we all need to find a beach escape at some point in our hectic lives.
Table of Contents
Solo Female Travel Florida: My Experiences
Florida is a place that means a lot to me. Like a lot of American families, we vacationed a lot in Florida throughout the years, and the state’s impressive beaches and tropical weather never failed to relax me, or help me forget my troubles.
I had the pleasure of traveling alone to Florida, too. For example, Jacksonville FL has lots of things to do alone . I felt very welcome and not at all awkward as a solo female traveler.
As some of you know, I still experience anxiety traveling alone, and while the trips are always marvelous in the end, nerves still make their unwanted appearance.
Florida, on the other hand, never makes me nervous. Landing in this state feels like “coming home,” to me. I will keep visiting here for the foreseeable future, even if I have to go alone.
Should You Travel Alone to Florida?
But what about you and your needs? Should you take a solo trip to Florida, or should you wait until another person can go with you?
Like I had mentioned, Florida is a popular destination for families and couples, but at the same time, you don’t hear too much about solo female travel in Florida. Which is a shame!
Ultimately, I personally suggest booking a Florida vacation alone with a caveat. You need to feel very comfortable in your own skin for a solo trip to Florida. For instance, if happy couples and close-knit families will stir jealousy in you, then I wouldn’t necessarily recommend Florida for solo travel.
If you often feel lonely on a solo trip ( and yes, loneliness is one of the disadvantages of solo travel ), seeing a lot of people bonding might be difficult for you, and you deserve better on your vacation.
On the other hand, if you love being alone and feel confident as an independent woman and traveler, then I see zero issues with taking a solo vacation to Florida!
New Travelers
I highly recommend Florida to new solo travelers. No doubt about it.
Why? Well, new travelers will love Florida, because of the state’s accessibility to tourists. I think everyone ought to travel alone at least once, but I also understand that not everyone wants to immediately hop on an international flight for their first independent adventure.
Florida is perfect for new solo travelers because everyone speaks English, currency is the same, zero cultural shock exists, and the time zone probably won’t be too drastic of a jump.
Florida is also perfect for new solo travelers who live a short flight away, and perhaps only have time for a long weekend getaway.
Furthermore, new travelers from the northern United States or Canada, will appreciate Florida’s lush greenery and warm weather, especially in southern Florida.
Experienced Travelers
Experienced solo travelers will also fall in love with Florida. Even if you’re not impressed by popular tourist attractions, Florida has so many off the beaten path gems that will delight and surprise you.
For example, on my recent visit to Jacksonville, I drove fifty minutes to Boneyard Beach, and for most of my visit, I was the only person taking in the eerie beauty of the driftwood on the sand. I felt like a true adventurer and wish I could’ve stayed even longer.
And honestly, sometimes as an experienced solo traveler, trips abroad feel overwhelming. There is substantially more preparation involved traveling internationally, and sometimes a relaxing experience in a beautiful US state is just what is needed to “cleanse the travel palette.”
7 Reasons to Travel Alone to Florida
As you’ve guessed, you could write an entire guidebook on solo female travel in Florida. However, for a blog post, I think 7 reasons should be enough to at least encourage you to research traveling alone here.
I hope by the end of this post that you’re ready to book your airline ticket to Florida.
Blend in with the Crowd
I know I keep saying it, but Florida is super popular with travelers. You won’t stand out like a sore thumb when you travel alone to Florida.
Blending in with the crowd is such a blessing. For instance, at the Surf Girl Pro concerts in Jacksonville Beach, I was able to freely dance to music and eat freshly cooked fish tacos without anyone bothering me! It was a liberating experience for a solo traveler.
Florida is perfect for solo female travelers who want to blend in and not deal with the issues that come with standing out in a crowd.
Endless Places to Explore
Florida is a massive state. Don’t plan a trip to Florida thinking that you will see Miami, Tampa, Disney World, The Panhandle, Amelia Island, and Jacksonville all in a single week.
Distances are huge, and traffic makes matters even worse, especially in the winter months when “Snow Birds” flock from other states to their temporary Florida homes.
However, Florida’s size also means you will have endless places to explore. It’s easy to do multiple solo trips to Florida, and not see the same attractions twice. Florida is the gift that keeps on giving.
Fantastic Tourism Infrastructure
Florida’s tourism infrastructure is fantastic. Brilliant, even. This is a state that relies on hospitality to pay its bills, so the tourism industry is going to do its damndest to make sure you have a wonderful time on your vacation.
Plenty of information exists to make your Florida vacation memorable. Additionally, Florida has a ton of accommodation to suit the needs of tourists. Do you want an apartment rental? No problem. A five star resort? No problem. A hostel? No problem.
Florida’s thriving tourism sector will make planning your vacation a breeze.
Gorgeous Nature Everywhere
Florida’s nature is breathtaking and diverse. Seriously, it’s one of the most beautiful states on the East Coast, in my opinion.
So, whether you’re admiring the soft white sands of Marco Island, learning about the wildlife in Everglades National Park, or hiking in one of the many nature preserves around Jacksonville and loving the Spanish Moss, Florida’s nature will never stop taking your breath away.
Not to mention, Florida’s natural wonders are accessible to everyone, not just super fit hikers. Don’t be scared to “get outside” when you’re on your solo trip to Florida.
Lots of Solo Travel Friendly Dining
I personally still cringe requesting a “table for one.” Logically, I know no one cares about solo diners, but I still feel as if a lot of people are judging me whenever I sit down for a meal alone.
Florida, though, has so many solo travel friendly dining options that you’ll never worry about going hungry. Culturally, Florida’s a fairly casual place with a lot of “hole in the wall” dining joints, as well as seafood shacks for fresh shrimp and grouper. You won’t stand out as a solo traveler in these casual places.
In addition, Florida has a thriving craft brewery scene, and even if you don’t drink, a lot of these breweries offer food, too, so you can sit at the bar and still have a wonderful meal.
And beach bars. Go to all the beach bars.
Much Needed Relaxation
I, personally, come to Florida to relax. In Europe, I’m always running around, trying to see and do as much as possible before returning to the United States. I don’t feel that same pressure in Florida.
If you’re main goal as a solo traveler is to relax, then you’ve come to the right state. Leave the stress behind. Seriously.
On sunny days, enjoy your afternoons on the beach or sitting at the pool, and don’t feel guilty about feeling lazy either. We all need trips where we unwind, physically and mentally and spiritually, and Florida’s coast is the perfect place to do just that.
Solo travel to Florida means much needed rest and relaxation.
Unique Arts and Culture Scenes
Not really in the mood for the beach? Don’t worry. Florida also has a wonderful arts and culture scene that will appeal to solo travelers, too.
For example, I went to an art show in Naples that inspired me to revisit my own artwork from years ago. Bigger cities, such as Jacksonville, also have their own flourishing arts scene, which can clearly be seen at Riversides Arts Market.
Not to mention, all the big cities in Florida have museums that you can visit on those days when you’ve had enough beach time.
Solo Female Travel Florida: Essential Tips
Last but not least. I wanted to give you some essential tips for planning your solo trip to Florida. Of course, you may need to do some more research on your own, depending on what part of the state you’re visiting, but I hope these tips will at least get the ball rolling.
How to Get Around Florida
Florida’s size makes navigation a challenge. Cities are very spread out, and public transit is nonexistent.
You won’t always need a car, though. Like, if you’re staying on Disney World property, then you don’t need to worry at all about not having a car.
Unfortunately, though, if you want to see some of Florida’s most gorgeous beaches and freedom to do what you want on your own terms, then having your own vehicle is a priority.
Pack your patience driving in Florida. For example, when I stayed in Jacksonville Beach, I experienced some traffic on the weekend, but I also live in North Jersey, so driving wasn’t a big deal for me.
However, if you’re not used to driving in heavy trafficked areas, then Florida might be a learning curve for you. Drive defensively. Better safe than sorry especially in a rental car.
Safety in Florida
Florida is safe for solo travel. Still, as a state that draws lots of tourists, it’s important to be mindful of your physical safety and surroundings.
In Florida’s cities, do research on neighborhoods and crime rates in advance. My rule of thumb is to stay at a popular hotel where lots of people are always out and about rather than a quiet rental on a dark street. Don’t try and save money at the risk of your own safety. Cut costs elsewhere.
To tell you the truth, in my opinion, the biggest danger in Florida is one of the main reasons we flock to the state: the nature.
Bluntly, do not mess with the wildlife, especially alligators. Maintain a respectful distance at all times. These animals are not pets or tourist attractions, and you seriously risk injury by approaching any wild animal in Florida. Don’t do it.
Furthermore, I don’t care if you’re an Olympic swimmer. Always pay attention to the flags on the beach. Always.
If you’re warned against swimming, don’t do it. Opt to read on the beach instead. You put yourself and first responders at risk when you ignore warning flags on the beaches.
Last but not least, you always run the risk of trip cancellation if you book a vacation during Hurricane Season, which traditionally runs from June 1st – November 30th, which storms peaking in August and September. If possible, avoid travel during those times, but if you have no other choice, then you will have to purchase a travel insurance policy to protect your wallet.
What to Pack for Florida
Last but not least, I wanted to talk about what to pack for Florida before you go on your solo trip. Now, obviously, you’re more than welcome to buy whatever you want in Florida. However, in touristy areas, the essentials are going to cost more money than your home state. I’d bring whatever you need ahead of time.
Solo Female Travel Florida Essentials
- Comfortable and Cool Shoes: You’ll want both open-toed and comfortable shoes. I live in cosy yet supportive sandals whenever I visit Florida. Now, if you plan on any hikes, then you’ll want a decent pair of hiking shoes , too. Don’t skimp on your footwear.
- E-Reader for Pool & Beach: A solo traveler never feels alone with a good book, but packing tons of books is such a pain. Heavy too. I personally suggest bringing a lightweight and waterproof e-reader with you. It will keep you company at the pool or beachside bar.
- Florida Guidebook: I already mentioned Florida is massive. If you’re planning a road trip, then buy a good Florida guidebook with tons of information on the best places to go.
- Multiple Bathing Suits: In Florida, you live in your bathing suits, especially in southern Florida. Anna Cole makes some of my favorite bathing suits , so they will be perfect for your solo trip to Florida. Have fun swimming!
- Sunscreen, Sunscreen, and More Sunscreen: Do not, under any circumstances, mess with Florida’s sun. I’ve been burned more times than I can count, which is total trash for my skin. Learn from my mistakes, and pack a lot of sunscreen for your trip.
- UPF Clothing: Coolibar makes an excellent line of sun protection clothes. While a little pricy, I think they are a good investment. For example, this beach coverup is perfect for a long day at the pool, and this colorful dress is perfect for a stroll in Downtown Disney.
- Wide Brim Hat: Protect your skin and face with a wide brim hat . Perfect for lazy days at the beach or brunch outdoors.
I hope you liked reading all about solo female travel to Florida. Do you have anywhere in Florida that you’re planning to visit alone? Feel free to share with me!

Rafting down the Lazy, Lovely Ginnie Springs
One of the best aspects of living in Florida is exploring the varied and unique environments around us: from white sandy beaches to the swamps of the Everglades to crystal-clear freshwater springs, this state has so many opportunities to get in touch and up close with nature. With over 700 springs to choose from, figuring out which one to visit could be daunting.
Ginnie Springs – a little more than a 3-hour drive northwest of Melbourne – is one that delivers beautiful surroundings and an unforgettable experience.
I recently took a weekend trip there and wanted to share some tips and anecdotes for Space Coast residents making the drive. Ginnie Springs is located in North Florida, less than an hour from Gainesville. If you are not into camping, I recommend staying in town near the college. This way, you can try some of the local favorites, like First Magnitude Brewery and the famous pizza spot, Satchel’s.
Whether you are camping or just spending the day, I recommend arriving at Ginnie Springs early, especially if it’s a summer weekend. The park opens at 8 AM but arriving earlier will help you avoid the long line for admission. Entry to this privately-managed park are $14 for adults spending the day, and $22 for adult campers. (Discounts are available to both kids and seniors.)
The main appeal of Ginnie Springs is a float down the Santa Fe River.
This is your chance to experience a lazy river as it was meant to be – in all of nature’s splendor and so much better than a water park! When we visited, we parked as close as we could to Beaver Landing and then enjoyed the hour-long float down to the Twin Spring exit. It’s only about a fifteen-minute walk back to the car and we were able to float down three times before the afternoon clouds arrived!
Most people bring tubes for floating, although you can rent them at the General Store. There is a free air station for inflating tubes, but the lines can get pretty long. I recommend bringing a pump that you can plug into your car to blow up the floats. Make sure you test it beforehand to avoid the hassle we experienced: realizing ours was broken when we got there, leaving us no choice but to queue up for the air station.
You can easily make a day out of floating down the Santa Fe. There’s plenty to see – from the abundant wildlife, to towering Cypress trees, to day trippers jumping off ropes into the Springs – you’ll enjoy a bit of everything that makes Florida wild and wonderful. We packed a picnic lunch to eat in between rides down the river and a floating cooler for drinks during the float.
There are options for kayaking, canoeing and paddleboarding on the river with available rentals, or you can bring your own. Cave diving and camping also can be booked at the Springs. Costs vary so check the website before you go for details and requirements.
Other fun activities include snorkeling and scuba diving. The main river is not always very clear, but there are sections of the river perfect for seeing everything from fish to fossils! We swam around in the Devil’s Ear spot and, although it was freezing, the water was beautifully clear!
Regardless of how you spend your time at Ginnie Springs, it is definitely one of the most unique experiences you can have in Florida! It does get very crowded and a bit rowdy in the summer, but that’s because it’s the only place around for a refreshing and leisurely float! Eco-tourists into paddling or scuba diving may want to stick to the off-season for optimal nature viewing. For everyone else, plan a trip during the warm summer months for a true Florida experience!

12 Fun Girlfriend Getaways In Florida Everyone Will Love
April 5, 2021 // by Florida Trippers
Whether you’ve got spring or summer break around the corner or are just looking for a weekend getaway in the tropical south, look no further, for we have accumulated the best girls’ getaways in Florida for your squad.
From coast to coast, road-tripping to tubing, the possibilities are endless when it comes to girls getaways in Florida.
Florida is one of the most popular getaways in the southern United States because it offers a variety of different vacation options, being the home of some of the country’s most famous beaches and theme parks.
While at first glance you may not expect Florida to be the home of some of these spots perfect for a girl’s trip, we’ve got you covered! The tropical peninsula has more than meets the eye, whether hitting the northern, southern, or central areas of the state.
Below we’ve detailed 12 ideas for your girls trip past just the go-to getaways, so if you’re looking to take it easy in Key West or Miami for the week, or tackle multiple spots in a coast-to-coast road trip, read on!
Weekend in Miami
Miami is one of the most popular spots in Florida, and expectedly so, as you could spend weeks at the famous location and only scratch the surface.
There are some incredible art districts, beautiful beaches, and lovely pedestrian areas fit with shopping and bars for you and your girlfriends. Miami is a great pick if you’re a go-with-the-flow type group who’s looking for a last-minute getaway because the city has loads to spontaneously explore.
For more details on everything Miami has to offer in case you’re a planner after all, check out our ultimate 3-day weekend itinerary for your girls getaway in Florida!
Shelling Getaway On Sanibel And Captiva
Shelling is a very popular hobby in Florida, being the epicenter of so many beaches in the country. So, if you’re looking for one of the best spots to go searching for sea glass, shells, and even the occasional shark tooth, Sanibel and Captiva may be the place for your adventurous group.
Named by us as one of the most beautiful shelling beaches in Florida , Sanibel Island, off of Fort Myers contains some of the state’s less crowded beaches, which makes it great for searching. There, among the couple hundred species of shells, you can even find sand dollars and clams.
There is an abundance of beach options on the Sanibel and Captiva Islands , but North Captiva and Turner beach may be your best bets!
Florida Keys Road Trip
The Florida Keys, the origin of the Key Lime Pie has loads to offer: sun, shade, snorkeling and even sea turtles!
Possibly the best spot for a beach vacation, you and your girls can road trip between different shores, parks, and trails, with different spots for kayaking and observing the diverse wildlife.
If you’re looking for spots to stop at between Miami and Key West, we’ve already got you covered, with the 16 best we’ve found.
On the other hand, if you’re looking to stick around in The Keys for a while, Florida Trippers has 15 options for you as well, with the best things to do in the area for any traveler.
Tubing At Ginnie Springs
If beaches aren’t quite your style and your group is more in the market for some freshwater, tubing and camping at Ginnie Springs is an adventure for the more rugged, action-seeking types.
The privately-run springs are cheap to stay at and BYOB, with 24/7 access if you’re staying on-site. The perfect Florida oasis for many, including us!
Paddle-boarding and kayaking are available alongside the popular tubing activity, so you have multiple options for water exploration past the typical saltwater excursions.
Although the springs can be busy and attract young adult crowds, it may just be the unique getaway you’ve been looking for. So, if you want to stick to your group and embrace nature for a few days, Ginnie Springs is on the south side of the Santa Fe River.
Florida Castles Road Trip
Looking to explore the 10 best castles in Florida on one of your girls getaways in Florida? Look no further than a road trip to each of these historic sites.
Most correlate castles with European areas, and Florida may be the last place you’d think of to host these fairytale buildings, but they’re popular tourist attractions around here, especially for photoshoots.
From Solomon’s aluminum castle in Sarasota to the Don Cesar “pink palace” in St. Petersburg, you’ve got quite a handful of dreamy locations to check off your bucket list.
While there are many road trip options in Florida , this one, in particular, is unlike any other.
Sarasota and Siesta Key
Sarasota and Siesta Key go hand in hand most often, so if you’re looking to experience all sorts of adventures in a short amount of time, this option may be the (siesta) key!
We’ve got all sorts of pastimes for you in both Sarasota and Siesta Key if you want a more detailed breakdown, but these spots are definitely considered hidden gems, and not a lot of tourists immediately gravitate to the area.
The sleepy beach towns offer fun spots like The Ringling Museum of Art and Sarasota Farmers Market, or if water-sports and dolphin sighting is more your style, they’ve got that too.
Amelia Island
Sophisticated and classy, Amelia Island is perfect for those who love the finer things in life, with cocktail and bar tours, quiet beaches, and beautiful resorts.
One of the best beaches for girls getaways in Florida, you can paddle-board, take a cocktail tour and wander the island in a day’s time, great for an elegant escape under the sun.
Along with these pastimes, you can go horseback riding across the 13 mile shore, golf on one of the 6 courses, and search for shark teeth!
So, as far as the perfect clash of classy and rugged activities, Amelia Island is where it’s at.
Pensacola Florida, one of the oldest European settlements in The United States is a perfect weekend getaway! We’ve broken down some of the most fun things to do in the area if you want more detail, but if museums and nightlife are what you’re searching for, opportunity awaits.
If your girl group doesn’t have a specific time slot for your trip, you may consider attending The Pensacola Seafood Festival or Pensacola Winterfest in the latter months of the year! While the prospect of Winter might be daunting, for the most part, Florida is sunny and warm year-round, so you won’t have to worry!
Clearwater Beach
A no-brainer for many, Clearwater in Tampa Bay is a go-to getaway.
With over 15 beaches in the area, some are ranked the best in the country, and even the world! The water is always warm and the sun is always high, so if your girls are on the lookout for year-round paradise, Clearwater lives up to its dreamy name.
Sand Key Park is located here, with fewer crowds than the always crowded Clearwater Beach, home of white sands and even the occasional coyote!
St. Petersburg
Right around the corner from Clearwater is St. Petersburg Florida, home of more beautiful beaches and a lovely downtown, with trendy restaurants and parks, and classic sandy shores.
Suken Gardens and The Dali Museum are great attractions among the beaches and piers, but you’ll also find loads of Instagram-worthy spots to get food and drinks, and you can even snap your photos in front of the murals and street art!
This spot is pretty busy year-round, but ideal for girls getaways in Florida since it has everything you would want on paper for a weekend.
West Palm Beach
For an urban feel, consider West Palm Beach! Rich with culture and nightlife and right around the corner from some of the best beaches in the state, West Palm Beach has plenty of unique qualities to offer.
Despite the family-friendly feel, the spot is calm and enjoyable, for a girl group not dead-set on hitting a bar trail and more-so just taking it easy.
Orlando Theme Parks
If beaches and nature aren’t quite your cup of tea, consider the always popular Orlando, home of Disney World and Universal Studios among other world-famous theme parks.
This option is pricey, but if you and your girlfriends are thrill-seekers, Disney fanatics, or just want a once and a lifetime experience full of hustle and bustle, consider taking a weekend trip to the Lake Buena Vista area and knocking out some of the parks.
Our Disney Trippers site will help you with anything you’d possibly need to know about the most magical place on earth, so look no further if you settle on Orlando for your final destination.
Overall, we hope we’ve opened your eyes to all The Sunshine State has to offer for your girls getaway in Florida! Whether you and your squad want to hit the town, relax on the beach or embrace your inner tourist, these locations have endless possibilities.

How to pick a travel destination for girls weekend?
That’s a tough question, as Florida is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. However, if we had to choose, we would say that the prettiest beach in Florida is Naples’ Vanderbilt Beach. Vanderbilt has wide, white sand beaches and clear, blue waters. It’s the perfect spot to relax with your girlfriends and enjoy the stunning scenery . Plus, the sunsets are just stunning! Follow-up would be Siesta Key or Clearwater Beach areas. We’re big sunset-watching people over here so we’re a bit partial.
The clearest water in Florida can be found in the Keys. The waters around Key West are some of the clearest in the state, and they offer excellent opportunities for snorkeling and diving. If you’re looking for a place to enjoy the clear waters of Florida, Key West is definitely worth a visit.
The best nightlife in Florida can be found in Miami. This city is home to some of the best nightclubs and bars in the country, and it’s always a party scene. If you’re looking for a place to let loose and have a good time, Miami is the place to be.
The best shopping in Florida (while subjective) can be found in West Palm Beach. This city is home to some of the best shopping malls and boutiques in the state, and it’s a great place to find designer brands. If you’re looking for a place to do some serious shopping, West Palm Beach is definitely worth a visit. People come from all over the world to shop in this city, so you’re sure to find what you’re looking for.
This is a tough question, as there are so many great beach towns in Florida. However, if we had to choose one, we would say that Naples is the best beach town in the state. This town is known for its white-sand beaches and luxurious resorts, and it’s a great place to explore. If you’re looking for a beach town to relax in, Naples is definitely worth a visit.
There are so many great beaches in Florida, but some of our favorites include Rosemary Beach, Alys Beach, Lowdermilk Park Beach, and Vanderbilt Beach. These beaches are known for their white sand and crystal clear waters, and they offer a great experience for visitors. If you’re looking for a great beach to visit in Florida, be sure to check out these locations.

Solar eclipse 2024: Follow the path of totality
Solar eclipse, what you need to know to watch monday's total solar eclipse.
The NPR Network
A stunning celestial event is visible across the country Monday, when the moon crosses directly in front of the sun: a total solar eclipse. For those in the path of totality, there will be a few brief moments when the moon completely covers the sun and the world becomes dark.
Traveling for totality? Skip ahead.
This will be the last chance to catch a total solar eclipse in the continental U.S. for about 20 years, so here's what you need to know to safely enjoy!
When is the eclipse?
April 8, 2024 there will be a total solar eclipse that crosses from the Pacific coast of Mexico through the United States.
What is totality and why it matters
According to NASA , totality will start around 11:07 a.m. PDT/1:07 EDT in Mexico and leave Maine at around 1:30 pm PDT/3:30 pm EDT.
Here's what time the eclipse will be visible in your region
Check out this table for when the partial eclipse and totality are visible in each region or check by zip code here.
A partial solar eclipse will be visible across the contiguous United States, so even if you're not directly in the path, you should be able to see something special, weather permitting.
Unable to get to totality? We'll be sharing highlights here from across the NPR Network throughout the day Monday if you can't see it in real time.
Where to see totality?
More than 30 million people live in the path of totality for Monday's eclipse, and many more in nearby areas.
Here's what we know about Monday's weather forecast.
Why totality matters
As NPR's Neil Greenfieldboyce explains , "During a total eclipse, the sky darkens suddenly and dramatically . The temperature drops. Stars come out. Beautiful colors appear around the horizon. And the once-familiar sun becomes a black void in the sky surrounded by the glowing corona — that's the ghostly white ring that is the sun's atmosphere."
Eclipse Science
For april's eclipse, going from 'meh' to 'omg' might mean just driving across town.
A partial eclipse, while still a fun experience, is hardly as dramatic. Those with a view of the partial eclipse will see crescent-shaped shadows like those seen here in 2017.
How to watch safely
If you plan to look directly at the eclipse (partial or totality), you're going to need eclipse glasses handy because looking directly at the sun without proper protection ( traditional sunglasses don't count! ) can be harmful to your eyes.
The perfect celestial soundtrack to the total solar eclipse
As NPR's Joe Hernandez explains, "Proper eye protection must be worn throughout a total solar eclipse — except for the roughly 3 1/2 to 4 minutes when the moon fully obscures the sun, a brief period known as 'totality.' (You will need to take your glasses off during totality to actually see it.)"
If you don't have access to eclipse glasses, you can get crafty with things you have around the house ( like some of us did back in 2017!) More on that here.
Traveling for totality?
The celestial event is driving a ton of domestic travel to the path of totality. If you're headed out of town to view the eclipse, here are some NPR Network resources for areas in the path of totality:
Texas The path of totality crosses through the Lone Star State, with some areas expecting a possible influx of visitors in the hundreds of thousands to catch prime viewing. Our member stations across the state have gathered local resources to help you navigate the region and the eclipse!
- San Antonio: Check out the latest from Texas Public Radio
- Dallas: Explore KERA's coverage for the latest
- Austin: Head to KUT for the best local resources
Arkansas The eclipse will be cutting through the state, putting Little Rock in the path of totality. Check out Little Rock Public Radio for local resources.
The southwestern edge of the state will be well-positioned to witness the total solar eclipse this year. Kentucky Public Radio is covering the eclipse throughout the region, from Kentuckiana eclipse mania to the University of Louisville's free class about the celestial event. Keep an eye on WKMS for the latest local updates.
Missouri The southeastern corner of the state will be in the path of totality, crossing across towns like Whitewater and Ste. Genevieve. Head to St. Louis Public Radio for local coverage and resources. Illinois Carbondale seems to have won the eclipse lottery, being in the path of totality both in 2017 and for this year's eclipse . For resources from across the state, check out Illinois Public Media .
Indiana A huge portion of the state will be within the path of totality, giving cities across Indiana, including Bloomington and Indianapolis, prime viewing of the eclipse.
- Bloomington: Check out Indiana Public Media
- Indianapolis: Head to WFYI for the latest
- Fort Wayne: Just north of the path of totality, WBOI has resources for the Allen County area
Ohio The Buckeye State is getting bisected by this year's path of totality, plunging a number of the state's most populous areas into darkness for a few minutes on Monday.
- Cleveland: Head to Ideastream Public Media for the latest.
- Columbus: With the capital city just south of totality, head to WOSU for regional resources.
- Cincinnati: Totality will just miss the border town. Here are some tips from WVXU on how to navigate the eclipse in the region.
Pennsylvania Only the northwestern-most corner of the state will catch totality, with views from the lakeside in Erie being particularly well-positioned for a stunning viewing experience. WESA has more from across the region.
Plan to watch the eclipse from a wild mountain summit? Be ready for harsh conditions
New York Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse and Plattsburgh will fall under the path of totality on Monday. If you're planning to travel to the region for the best views, here are some local resources to stay safe and informed:
- Buffalo: Head to WBFO for the latest
- Syracuse: WAER has more on plans in the Salt City
- North Country: NCPR has the latest from across the region, as well as information on local viewing events to check out
Vermont The Green Mountain State will see totality across its most populous region, including Burlington and Montpelier, as well as the Northeast Kingdom on the Canadian border. Vermont Public has everything you need to know to navigate your time in the region to enjoy the eclipse safely. New Hampshire The northernmost region of the Granite State will be in the path of totality, providing prime viewing to those in Coos County. NHPR has info on local events, travel updates as well as special coverage with New Hampshire Public Television. Maine The last state in the path of totality in the U.S., much of Northern Maine will be positioned for prime viewing. The rural region is preparing for an influx of visitors, and safety officials are encouraging visitors and locals alike to be prepared. Maine Public will be covering the eclipse and has everything you need to know to navigate the region safely.
How to document the eclipse safely
With the ease of cell photography , it can be tempting to reach for your phone to document the eclipse and the moments of totality, but make sure to do so safely.
As NPR's Scott Neuman explains , "For starters, you'll need to wear eclipse glasses or similar protective eye gear while aiming your camera or even just observing the eclipse."
Feeling ambitious? Here are a few more tips.
Or if you're not inclined to capture the moment visually, you lean into some other forms of creative expression. Indiana, for example, has named Linda Neal Reising the official poet in the state for this year's eclipse.
As former NPR reporter and eclipse superfan David Baron shared with Life Kit , viewing totality "[is] like you've left the solar system and are looking back from some other world."
So consider focusing on being present in the moment to enjoy the celestial spectacle.
