Born around six years ago, the Ickle Bubba brand aims to create luxurious and eye-catching prams and travel systems without the hefty price tag. Awards include a silver MadeForMums award in 2017 for the Stomp V3, and a bronze award in 2018 for the Stomp V4.

The Ickle Bubba Stomp V4 travel system, including Galaxy 0+ car seat, Isofix base and adaptors is £599, and includes all the accessories you might need to use it from birth to 13kg, including footmuff, seat liner, changing bag, rain cover and even sunshades. The older version, the V3 scooped a silver MadeForMums Award for best travel system under £500 .

The travel system is very much in line with its mid-market competitors.The Cosatto Wow Complete Travel System , for example, has an RRP of £599.95, while the, while the Koochi Moderho costs £589.95. Both are pretty on par with the Stomp V4, which comes with everything you need to get started for a brilliant price of £599.

The Ickle Bubba Stomp V4 Special Edition builds on its predecessors with new colourways and an emphasis on luxury and comfort in its materials.

Currently on maternity leave, Sophie lives in Manchester with her husband Jamie and four-month-old son Jasper. She's been trying this product out on walks, shopping trips and on the bus to and from baby classes.

What were your first impressions of the Ickle Bubba Stomp V4 Special Edition?

When the travel system arrived, I couldn’t get over how much kit was included! The system overall looks quite neat. Our pram came in the new Midnight Bronze colourway – the black contrasts nicely with the unusual bronze chassis and makes for a classy-looking pram.

What’s the difference between the Ickle Bubba Stomp V3 and stomp V4?

This new version of the Stomp has had a face-lift. The V4 now comes in two special edition colours, bronze and chrome.

It also now has leatherette handle in black and brown colours and the fabric of the seat unit and carrycot now features a luxury quilted liner and doubled lined hood.

The functionality of travel system doesn’t seem hugely different, it’s still an all-in-one system and comes with everything you need for a new addition to the family at a very competitive price.

You’ll get the buggy with seat until and carrycot, car seat, adapters, changing bag and mat, sun visors, hoods, liners, colour packs and more. Phew!

Is the Ickle Bubba Stomp V4 easy to assemble?

It was really simple to put together, taking less than 20 minutes on my own.

Is the pram easy to push?

I was pleasantly surprised at how easy the pram is to steer, which I could easily do one-handed thanks to how light it is (6.5kg for the chassis and wheels). It’s the same weight as the Cosatto Giggle 2 I’d been using, but it is much easier to handle.

Is the Ickle Bubba Stomp V4 pushchair easy to fold?

It’s genuinely the easiest fold I’ve encountered. Once the seat is removed by clicking the two side buttons out and lifting the seat out, you slide down the two levers on either side of the chassis while holding the button in on the right-hand one, push, and it’s folded.

Is it easy to unfold?

Unfolding is even easier than folding – you lift the catch on the chassis and pull the handlebar up.

Is the pushchair easy to store and compact?

At home, it took up very little room – tilt the handlebar to 90 degrees and it can stand on its own. It’s so compact that it fitted in the boot of our Vauxhall Astra with room to spare.

Do the wheels work well?

The smaller front tyres have a locking system operated by push-down buttons on each side for going over uneven surfaces. The rear wheels, which attach and detach easily by pressing buttons, look like road tyres, so I was excited to test these on a country walk. Unfortunately their design makes them harder to clean than the smooth front wheels, and after a walk mud was embedded in the indents.

How does the Ickle Bubba Stomp V4 handle bumpy ground?

Unfortunately, whether the front wheels were locked or not, the frame was prone to rattling over rougher ground, and it didn’t feel as sturdy as I’d hoped.

Do the brakes work effectively?

The brake is a bar across the back between the wheels which makes it easy to engage and release regardless of footwear (even fliflops). They feel really secure. I really liked the brake design because it was easy to put on and take off, even when rushing to get on and off the bus. I didn’t once catch it with my feet while walking, which has happened on prams I’ve used with a lower brake switch.

Is the Ickle Bubba Stomp V4 comfortable?

It looks super comfy – the luxury seat liner and padded coverlet feel lovely and soft.

Is the handle easy to use?

The leatherette handle and bumper bar cover (in tan with my package) complements the black and bronze nicely and feels soft to touch. The handlebar has a great range of height and tilt options, which worked well for my tall (6ft) husband and I.

Is it simple to replace the carrycot with the seat?

Yes, the infant seat handily uses the same frame as the lie-flat – you just remove the carrycot and replace with the seat. This was easy to do using the clasp/Velcro system.

What do you think of the hood?

The hood is disappointing – it’s made from a much coarser material than the rest of the pram and is not adjustable. It also doesn’t have any hoops for attaching toys, which would be a bonus.

Is the basket large and easy to access?

I was impressed with the size of the shopping basket, which was neat yet ample and easy to access even with the carrycot in place.

Is it easy to interact with your baby in the Ickle Bubba Stomp V4?

No, unfortunately the height of the pram combined with my height (5’ 2”) meant that unless I removed the bumper bar and tucked in the coverlet, I couldn’t see my son in the pram when pushing him in a rear-facing, lie-flat position (as recommended when under six months old). This isn’t an issue when using the infant seat.

Did you like the Galaxy 0+ car seat?

I was impressed. Its padding felt luxurious, from the strap pads to the matching footmuff, which meant there was no need for extra blankets. It was really easy to get my son into the seat as the straps can be moved out of the way. The moveable headrest (operated by pressing a catch on the base of the unit) was really handy for making him comfortable. It was easy to attach the car seat adaptors (included) to the frame and the seat to the frame also, which made for much easier outings, with no tears!

Is the Isofix base easy to use?

It was great – we have previously used an Isofix with the Cosatto Hold car seat and loved the speed at which we could secure the seat. Although the Ickle Bubba Isofix was easy to install, it was a bit tricky positioning the seat to click it into place and it took a few goes to get it right.

What aged children is the Ickle Bubba Stomp V4 best for?

The travel system is definitely great for newborn up to 2 years or further. If your little ones are tall, it might be more of a squeeze after age two.

The main thing you'll notice between the two is the appearance, with the Stomp V3 looking much more premium than it's predecessor. Made with more muted colours on offer and better quality materials, the Stomp V3 is a more streamlined, sleek and sturdy product.

Another thing is the addition of accessories, with the Stomp V3 also including a changing bag and mat, sun visors and more. However, it's main similarities are convenience, with the two products offering versatility that is sure to come in handy when transporting baby.

Mother & Baby Tester, Devon, said: "Personally, I would not buy this product for myself as it lacked character – I prefer the vibrant, bold designs of the Cosatto travel system. The newborn cot part of the pram was not sturdy – the base of the cot was very flimsy and came away easily. The quality of the finish was also a sign of the price, as the plastic was thin and frayed in areas. The pram was very light, which can be a bonus, but it also felt like it could fall over easily. In general, I felt that the overall quality of the travel system was not what I would usually go for; however, I would recommend it to parents who are looking for a more affordable travel system."

The pram and buggy pieces fit on the same frame (similar to the bugaboo setup) and this makes storing the travel system easier when not in use. You get a lot of bang for your buck and it is practical, functional and actually fairly stylish.

This is a one stop shop for all your transport needs – pram, buggy, car seat and ISOFIX base. It even comes with a changing bag and all the rain covers as standard. It's easy to transfer the car seat to the buggy frame and you don't have to purchase separate car adapters as you do with many other higher priced buggies.

The car seat is much lighter than others on the market which is a definite plus, and the system to adjust the height of the straps was great. However, when it comes to car seat, this seems much less supportive if you were in an accident – it seemed less robust than other brands on the market, which would make me pause before purchasing."

Mother & Baby Tester, Jessica, said: "Unfortunately, I wouldn't choose this product above others on the market. I couldn't use the car seat in my car as I do not have ISOFIX settings. I also found my son sliding to the top end of the carry cot, which made me worry that it was not secure enough."

Final thoughts

In summary, the Ickle Bubba Stomp V3 Travel System stood out as being a fairly affordable travel system to most, and some of our Mother & Baby testers were amazed with the amount of accessories that it came with. A lot of our testers praised this model as making their life easier due to convenience and practicality. Not to mention, the incredibly lightweight chassis making it easier to transport.

However, some of the testers prefered their own travel systems due to the fact they felt the Stomp V3 was a little flimsy, lacking in support and of a lower quality than their own. Despite this, the Ickle Bubba Stomp V3 travel system remains a contender in the list of affordable travel systems.

Don’t get me wrong, I am obsessed with my slick and smooth-riding Bugaboo Fox 5, but I’ve been looking for a second lightweight pram that easily folds to take in Ubers and on public transport ever since I split my Cesarean wound open carrying it down the stairs solo.

Yep, space is tight in London, and most tube stations are sans lift – which is why so many parents are seen strolling around with teeny tiny YoYo prams ( we’ve reviewed one here ). Visit any nursery in my area and you’ll see these nifty buggies folded and hung waiting for pickup time.

But while the YoYo has its appeal, I personally prefer something sturdier with all-terrain capabilities, something that can handle my entourage of miscellaneous mummy 'essentials' that seems to grow by the day. I landed on the Ickle Bubba Altima , with its big wheels, decent proportions, capacious shopping basket and one-handed fold, thinking it might serve as a hybrid of these two hero models. After rigorous testing, the end result was surprising – here’s my honest review of the Altima 2-in-1 pushchair.

Ickle Bubba ALTIMA ALL IN ONE TRAVEL SYSTEM

What’s so great about the Ickle Bubba Altima 2-in-1 pram?

There’s a lot to love about this buggy. It’s sturdy and stylish, and really reasonable compared to similar models on the market. Undeniably nice to look at, it comes in on-trend colourways (although since I didn’t love the rose gold accents on the black, I opted for sage-green with gunmetal hardware). Every detail has been well thought out for the wellbeing of mum and child, from the mesh peekaboo panel to the privacy screen and big shopping basket. Here’s what I loved in a nutshell:

• It feels lighter than your traditional 'big' buggy, but has the wheels can still withstand different terrains while protecting baby from bumps on the way.
• Serves from newborn to age four, up to the weight of 22kg – simply switch from the newborn chassis to the seat – so you won’t need to invest in two models.
• It's a lot more affordable than other buggies with similar capabilities.
• The retractable hood can unzip to create a sun visor, which is a lot more effective than a cumbersome parasol.
• The hood also has a mesh panel for checking on baby when in world-facing mode.
• The seat unit features three recline positions and two leg-rest options.
• Folded in seat mode, this pram has very slimline proportions.
• There's a large shopping basket beneath that's machine washable.

Ickle Bubba Altima cons

While there weren’t many cons to this buggy, what attracted me to it in the first place actually turned out to be a sticking point: the Ickle Bubba Altima doesn’t quite deliver on that one-handed USP. The brand’s instructions seem simple enough, but the process is fiddly to say the least. It took me quite a few goes, not to mention assistance from three different family members, to finally master unfolding and opening out. Although a lot shorter than the pro list, here are the buggy’s main cons:

• The one-handed fold feels quite complicated – mums, make sure you practice before you leave the house. It's also worth noting that it’s only available when your baby has reached the six month stage and you’ve switched the carry-cot for the seat unit.
• While this buggy is lightweight considering its sturdiness, the base still weighs around 5kg, so if you need something easy to travel with you might want to consider the aforementioned YoYo .

Can the Ickle Bubble Altima pram be parent facing?

Ickle Bubba has thought of everything when it comes to seating options for your child. Once your little one has outgrown the newborn chassis, you can switch for the seat and tailor to your liking, choosing between parent- and world-facing, as well as three different recline positions, which makes naps out and about much easier.

How to fold the Ickle Bubba Altima:

This I'm afraid is a bit of a tricky one, and I can only recommend having quite a few practice sessions at home before taking your Altima for a spin. Here's a video aid to help you perfect the art:

Can you use Ickle Bubba Altima before six months?

Absolutely. The Ickle Bubba Altima is designed for use from birth and has a really comfortable and protective chassis. Depending on your baby's weight and height, they could stay in this from ages four-six months.

Can you wash the Ickle Bubba Altima?

Unlike the BabyZen YoYo, the Ickle Bubba cannot be machine washed. Honestly, I don't see this as much of a problem when it comes to wipe-clean shell fabrics like this. So long as you sponge dry stains pretty promptly after they appear, no matter how messy the toddler, you should keep your Altima looking good as new. The basket beneath is the one part that is machine washable, should you experience any shopping or – God forbid – nappy bag spills.

Is the Ickle Bubba Altma travel system worth it?

Whether you’re investing in a buggy, or you're a first time parent trying to tick off that never-ending ‘to buy’ list, it’s always worth taking a look at travel systems to save a bit of money. In the case of the Ickle Bubba Altima , if you pay £200 more (the 2-in-1 pram RRPs at £499) you’ll get a Stratus Car Seat with ISOFIX Base included, as well as a load of great accessories thrown in like a cup holder, rain cover, changing bag and mat. This system also comes with the adaptors needed to fix the car seat to your Altima buggy’s frame (although it is recommended to never leave your child in their car seat for longer than two hours at a time) so you don’t have to wake them when you’re out and about.

While this travel system is undeniably good value, we always suggest doing your research on individual items. There’s no use in settling for a car seat that doesn’t meet your child’s needs just because it came with your buggy of choice.
