Dehradun to Pantwari village and trek to Camp 1

We will pick you up from Dehradun railway station around 6 in the morning, starting on a 4 hour uphill drive to village Panthwari at 4,650 ft. The road passes through a Mussoorie-the queen of hills, to Kempty Falls, and with the Yumuna river trailing our side on to Nainbagh from where we turn on the Nag TIbba road, reaching Panthwari at around 12 pm. We will be stopping for a light breakfast on the way. Also, Mussoorie is the last stop where an ATM is available.

At Panthwari, we will have a filling lunch and after some rest, head off for the trek. The hike begins at the end of a motorable road till which we will be reached by car. Beginning on a well defined cemented path, we will find our way to a rocky trail. You will find 2-3 water points on this way, the first of which comes after 15 minutes in the trek- a reservoir of stream water. Fill your bottles from here and move ahead.

30 minutes into the trek, you will come across a cluster of thatched roofed huts- a small village on cliffs, lined with terrace farmlands. During the harvest seasons, you will find these stretches in a wave of different shades in green and yellow. The locality of Panthwari can be seen lying down far below. Before reaching the ridge connecting the Panthwari side of the hills with Nag Tibba, you will come across ‘Goat Village’—an interesting eco-tourism resort.

After a while, the rocky mountain trail enters a thicket of oak and rhododendron and the ascent curve almost levels out. The next landmark on the trek is an isolated hut by a stretch of farmland, from where our campsite will be another 5 minutes walk. The campsite is a small clearing with the forests for a background and the rolling abyss out front. To find clouds like smoke rising from beneath in the gulf just in front of the campsite ledge is a mesmeric experience.

How-Nag-Tibba-Look-On-Day-1

Camp 1 to Nag Tibba top and return to Pantwari Village and drive to Dehradun

Day 2 needs to start very early as it’s a long day ahead. After catching a quick breakfast, finishing by 5:00 am, we start on the hike to the top. A trail on the right of the campsite continues through a thick forest cover. With snow enveloping the path in the winters, it becomes a little challenging to locate the trail which is otherwise well defined. Within 20-30 minutes from the camp on the forest trail, you will reach two open patches of land, clearings by the forest fringes. From this point on, the trek is almost a level walk on very gentle undulations.

The Nag Tibba temple marking the base of the Nag Tibba hill is situated on the third clearing that we find on this trail. From here, on a clear sky day, the Garhwal Himalaya peaks meet the eye.

The trek continues from here into the forest on a steep incline, likely to be submerged in snow in the winter. This part of the trek really raises the bar for challenge and makes for a swashbuckling summit experience. Close to the top, the trail will turn through a ridge and finally take you to the flag marking Nag Tabbi jhandi, or summit. One possible route of descending from here is a trail passing through Devalsari village, visible on the reverse side of the mountain.

The view from the summit brings us face to face with the Garhwal Himalaya’s most amazing. The canvas of the sky lights up with ice capped ranges of Bandarpoonch, Gangotri, Kedarnath, Kala Nag, and more.

If the trek runs according to schedule, you can spend some time on the top, then make the way down by the same trail. Lunch will be at the camp. Panthwari will be reached by sundown and a 4-5 hour drive from there will take you to Dehradun from where you can arrange an overnight journey.

If this two-day weekend trek schedule is to your liking, check out our Binsar trek.

These circumstances could include continuous rain or snow, thunderstorms, snowstorms, landslides, floods, earthquakes, or any other natural calamity that poses a risk to the safety of our trekkers. Additionally, unforeseeable events such as local riots, curfews, pandemics, lockdowns, government orders, or any similar situations that compromise the safety of the trekking experience may also necessitate a cancellation.

In the event of such a cancellation, TTH will provide you with a voucher equivalent to the amount you paid for the trek. This voucher can be redeemed for any of our treks within the next year, allowing you to still enjoy an adventure with us at a later date.

The issuance of a voucher is not applicable in situations where you are required to descend from the trek for any reason. The trek leader may make the decision to send you down from the trek due to factors such as insufficient fitness level, symptoms of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS), high blood pressure, exceeding the designated turn-around-time, health concerns, or if you are found smoking, drinking, or violating the rules set for the trek. In such cases, the provision of a voucher does not apply.

In the rare event that TTH shifts a trek:

We would like to emphasize that weather conditions in high-altitude areas are highly unpredictable and can undergo sudden changes at any time, irrespective of the day. Additionally, circumstances beyond our control, such as natural disasters, political unrest, pandemics, and lockdowns, may impact the feasibility of conducting a trek. In cases where we are unable to proceed with an event due to such circumstances that are beyond our direct control, we will make every effort to provide you with an alternative trek that is safer and more suitable.

In such situations, we will issue a voucher to offset the cost difference between the originally scheduled trek and the alternative trek. This voucher can be redeemed at any time within one year from the date of issue. Please note that a refund fee or reimbursement of the cost difference is not applicable in these cases.

How to choose the right trek?

Choosing the right trek for a beginner can be a bit overwhelming as there are many factors to consider such as distance, elevation gain, terrain difficulty, weather, and time of year. Here are some tips that can help you choose the right trek for a beginner:

1. Determine fitness level:  Assess the fitness level of the beginner to understand their physical capabilities. This will help you select a trek that is challenging but not too difficult.

2. Choose a well-traveled trail:  A well-traveled trail will have more amenities such as signposts, water stations, and shelter. It is also safer as there will be other hikers on the trail.

3. Consider the length of the trek:  For beginners, it is recommended to start with a shorter trek that can be completed in a day or two. This will help them get acclimatized to trekking and build their confidence.

4. Look for gradual elevation gain:  Choose a trek with a gradual elevation gain rather than steep ascents. This will make the trek easier and more enjoyable.

5. Check the weather:  Check the weather forecast before selecting a trek. Avoid treks during the monsoon season or winter when the trails can be slippery or dangerous.

6. Research the trail:  Read about the trail to get an idea of the terrain, altitude, and difficulty level. This will help you select a trek that is suitable for the beginner.

7. Consult with an expert:  If you are unsure about which trek to choose, consult our trek expert Mr. Nitin (+91 70600 59773) between 10 AM to 6 PM (Tuesday - Friday). Mr. Nitin will provide you valuable advice and guidance.

Overall, it is important to choose a trek that is enjoyable, challenging but not too difficult, and suitable for the beginner's fitness level and experience.

Can a beginner choose a tough trek?

It is not recommended for a beginner to choose a difficult Himalayan trek. Trekking in the Himalayas can be physically and mentally challenging, especially if you are not used to the high altitude, steep slopes, and rugged terrain. Choosing a difficult trek without the proper experience, fitness level, and preparation can be dangerous and put you at risk of altitude sickness, injury, and other hazards.

If you are a beginner, it is recommended to start with an easier trek and gradually build up your skills and experience. This will help you understand the challenges of trekking in the Himalayas, and also prepare you physically and mentally for a more difficult trek in the future. It is also important to choose a trek that matches your fitness level, experience, and interest.

What is the age limit for a beginner trekker?

There is no specific age limit for a beginner trekker. However, it is important to consider your physical fitness, health condition, and personal interests before embarking on a trek. Trekking in the Himalayas can be physically and mentally demanding, and requires a certain level of physical fitness and endurance.

If you have any pre-existing medical conditions or are above a certain age, it is recommended to consult with a doctor before embarking on a trek. It is also important to listen to your body and take breaks as needed during the trek to prevent exhaustion or injury.

If I am solo, can I join the trek in a group?

Yes, you can join the trek. We have fixed departure groups where you can simply book your trek and we will take care of curating a group.

How does my family get updated about my Trek?

Before you start the trek, it is recommended that you make all the necessary phone calls as during the trek you may or may not receive network coverage, once you come back to the Base Camp, you can reconnect with your family via phone once again. You can share your trek coordinator contact detail with your family members to get the latest updates about your trek batch.

Rhododendrons (Burans) are found in abundance here and its squash is very famous because it is very helpful in treating blood pressure. The zig-zag trail is steep with many loose rocks.

There are many other short cuts that look alike and lead to the same place but do not go for these shortcuts and leave the group because there is a chance to get lost in the woods.

After a 15 minutes, hike reaches a small clearing and from here you can spot your campsite. Reach there, have sumptuous food and retire for the night.

Day 2: Trek from Khathiyan to Nag Tibba Summit via Nag Tibba Base Camp (Nag Tibba temple) and return to Pantwari (12 km) (6/7 Hours) Same day drive to Dehradun (4/5 Hours)

Total distance 102 km – 12/13 Hours journey

Mode of journey – By taxi -90 km – On foot – 12 km

Altitude Nag Tibba summit – 3022 Meter

Today wake up early because the distance is long, have light breakfast and get ready for the adventure.

Go through the densely forested area, in winter trekking here gets tough because the heavy snow makes the trail hard to identify. Between your gradual walk cross some steep ascents and in 1 hour you can reach the Nag Tibba Base Camp.

It is a wide clearing and a temple is located there dedicated to Serpent God “Nag Devta”. It is worshipped by the local villagers for protection of their cattle and a “Bhagwat” is held here in which “Chief Minister is invited and almost 10,000 people attend it every year.

Now, the climb to Nag Tibba top is 1.5 km from Base Camp which is very steep through the thick forest cover. The snow makes the climb challenging in winters.

The trail is straight and you can reach the summit in 1 or 1 and a half hour depending upon the conditions. The highest point is called Nag Tibba, there is a flag “Jhandi” on the top.

Get tremendous views of high Himalayan ranges i.e. Swargarohini, Bandar pooch, Srikanta, Kala Naag, Gangotri and snow peaks of Changabang.

On the other side of the ridge the route to Devalsari village is also visible. Spend a good time there and start the steep downhill trek by following the same route to reach Pantwari.

Then, depart to Dehradun via Kempty fall and Mussoorie.

Himalayan Hikers are not only professional but care for their trekkers like family. Very safe and personal attention given to each one of us. Food and hygiene is very good. Had a wonderful trip to Phulara ridge last week. This is my 5th trek with them. I would highly recommend them to anyone who wants to trek in the Indian HIMALAYAS.

“I was a solo trekker so I joined fixed departure on 10 December 2018. The whole group was so friendly that I forgot I did not know them from before it was all because of the leader and team. When I checked in hotel Mr kuldeep Singh ji introduced the hotel staff, kitchen staff and the people who were going along with us on the trek. We all got familiar and we all were very comfortable with each other. The same schedule was being followed as we were told and everything went very smooth. Since then I have trekked with them many times and planning more” –

Team Himalayan Hikers is exceptional. The Nag Tibba trip was surreal for us as we were there during peak snowfall. Though the trek during this time was definitely not easy and was quite challenging, the guides provided us with support wherever needed. I am so happy I took this trek and experienced something life changing

Nag Tibba Trek

The Perfect Weekend Getaway

Available Batches

Brief description.

If you’re looking for a breather from your hectic work schedule and experience the peace and serenity of the mountains just over the weekend, Nag Tibba is the trek for you. It is a beginner level trek near the charming hill station of Mussoorie and is famous for its stunning sunsets from the campsite and terrific summit views. Resting at 3,022 m and spanning over 19 km, this trek is an absolute delight for all trekkers as it is open for the better part of the year and can be done by anyone with a basic level of fitness.

“Nag Tibba” means the serpent’s peak and is said to be the abode of the serpent God. This short trek is wholesome in its own way. It starts from the quaint village of Pantwari over a rocky uphill trudge and eventually envelopes into a local shepherd’s trail with gradual ascents and steep descents.

The trek runs through dense Rhododendron and Oak forests on snow clad terrain that is challenging to navigate in some sections. After trekking for about 5.5 km, the forest opens up to a small clearing with the Nag Mandir at the centre of it, offering mesmerizing views of the surrounding peaks. This is the campsite for the day.

Tip : The trek is more enjoyable when done over a span of three days instead of two. Find out why here .

Thanks to the open ground, the sunsets from this campsite are magical to behold only to have the magic surpassed by the starlit skies that follow.

Next day, the trek to the summit is steep and rugged but rewards you with glorious views of some prominent Himalayan Peaks like Swargrohini, Bandarpoonch, Black Peak &Gangotri amongst others.

And this is why the Nag Tibba trek is special. It treats you to an outstandingsummit view of an impressive range of snow-clad Garhwalian Peaks on the second day of the trek itself making it a must-do weekend winter trek in the Himalayas.

Although short in duration, the Nag Tibba trek does not fall short on the many attractions it holds. Read more about the Highlights of the Nag Tibba Trek .

The best months to do the Nag Tibba Trek for snow are December to March. The trails are completely snow-laden during these months and can be a challenge to navigate in some sections. We have discussed more about the skillset and gear one requires to complete the Nag Tibba Winter Trek here .

Nag-Tibba-Trek

Brief Itinerary

Detailed itinerary.

Drive to Pantwari & trek to Nag Mandir campsite (2325 m)

Distance: 90 kms + 5.5 kms

Duration: 4 hours drive + 4-5 hours trek

The journey begins at 7AM from the Dehradun bus stand. The drive to Pantwari (approximately 90kms) takes around 3-4 hours to cover, gaining an altitude of about 1400 m.

We will be driving through the Queen of hills – Mussoorie and passing by the lovely Kempty Falls along the way. Swift mountain streams run parallel to the roads in many sections. Although the journey is a charming one to behold, the roads can be rather coiled with sharp turns and steep climbs.

After crossing Mussoorie, the roads become emptier, the gorges on the sides seem bottomless and the mountains more rugged & lofty. We will be taking a quick halt on the way to freshen up and have breakfast.

Expect to be at Pantwari, the starting point, by 11 am. We will begin our trek to Nag Mandir as soon as we reach here. Packed lunches will be provided for this day.

The trail to the Nag Mandir campsite stretches over 5.5 kms and will take approximately 4-5 hours to cover. It begins with 2 kms of an uphill trudge on a cemented path that goes through the village market. Soon this path translates to a rocky uneven trail.

All along, one can enjoy the mesmerising views of the layered mountains, the small village of Pantwari lying down in the valley below & patches of farmlands on the way.

The next 1-1.5kms is a dry and narrow shepherd’s trail with gradual ascents and descents. After this the trail nosedives into a dense canopy of Oak and Rhododendron forests that allows only a little sunlight in. The red and pink flowers of the rhododendrons don’t bloom in the winters.

The path inside the forest can be snow-laden in some sections. After trekking for 1 km, the forest finally opens up to a small patch of land. A structure of a temple sits at the heart of this clearing. This is the famous Nag Mandir. We will be setting up camp here for the day.

The campsite offers panoramic views of a snow-covered Himalayan range at the horizon (on clear days).

Tip: The sunsets and starlit night skies are lovely at this campsite. The temperatures can dip down to -7 degrees in the winters. So please ensure you are layered well.

Note: In the winters, when the snow is heavy, we may set up camp at Khatian; a camping ground 2kms before Nag Mandir.

Nag Mandir campsite (2325 m) to Nag Tibba Summit (3022 m) & back to campsite

Distance: 2 kms + 2 kms

Duration: 2-3 hours + 2-3 hours

The morning begins quite early. After having breakfast, we start the trek around 6AM and carry packed lunches along. The trekkers are also briefly trained for the ascent on the snow trail.

Beyond the Nag Mandir base, the trail climbs steeply uphill making the stretch a demanding one to navigate, especially with the snow. Since this stretch is thickly forested and barely gets any sunlight, the snow does not melt easily even during day time.

Usually, the snow is soft, granular in texture and ankle deep requiring the trekker to pull through at every step. During extremely cold days, the snow can even be knee deep.

Eventually, the trail turns through a ridge and the views finally start to open up towards the summit.

The Nag Tibba summit throws itself open to expansive views of some of the major Himalayan peaks like Swargarohini, Nanda Devi, Black Peak & Banderpoonch. Nag Tibba is one of those rare treks that allow a 180-270 degree summit view of the snow-clad Garhwal ranges on the second day itself.

We pause for a long break at the summit and have our lunch there as well. We then begin the descent towards the campsite by the same forest route we took to the summit.

Nag Mandir Campsite to Pantwari (1400 m) & drive back to Dehradun Bus Stand

Distance: 5.5 kms + 90 kms

Duration: 3-4 hours trek + 4 hours drive

We start the day in the morning and prepare for a quick descent to Pantwari post breakfast. This would take around 3 hours to cover considering it is a downhill trek. We would arrive in Pantwari by 2PM and begin the drive to Dehradun at 3PM. It takes about 4 hours (7 PM) to reach the city. This would conclude our Nag Tibba winter trek.

Note: To be on the safer side though, arrange your return journey expecting to be at the Dehradun Bus Stand at around 9 PM. This could help account for any delays we may run into along the way.

Small Group Size

Our batch sizes are capped at 15 for smaller treks with the trek leader and trekker ratio of 1:8. This ratio, in our years of experience, has proven to deliver the best trekking experience for individuals as well as groups. Capping the size of the group ensures individual attention to each trekker so that no signs of distress or need during the trek go unnoticed. It also helps to form a more cohesive cohort with better group energy which helps define the rhythm and pace of days on the trek. As you go higher up on the BRS scale, since the stakes are higher, expeditions have an even smaller group size with the ratio of expedition leader to climber set at 1:2.

We have to cover a total distance of 85 km by road. The boulevard passes through Mussoorie which is also known as the queen of the hills followed by Kempty Falls. The last stop where you can find an ATM machine is Mussoorie. After this, you won’t find any source of cash outlet. The Yamuna river keeps trailing on the other side of the road till Nainbagh after which we turn on to the road that leads to Nag Tibba. We are supposed to reach Pantwari by 11 in the morning. After reaching Pantwari, a light breakfast is served and a little rest is taken until we start our journey to the main base camp. The hiking part starts after the end of the motorable road until which we will be taken by a vehicle. The trek begins on a well-cemented path until we cross the rocky trail. A stream water reservoir can be found just after 15 minutes of the inception of the trek. We need to fill our bottles here.

You will witness a small village on cliffs that consists of a bunch of thatched-roofed small huts with terrace farmlands in the vicinity. If you are lucky enough to be there during the harvesting season, you will come across a palette of green and yellow shades all around you. The farmlands are very pleasant to the eyes. From here, you can see the Pantwari village lying below. You will have to cross the Goat village which is famous for an eco-tourism resort before making your way to the ridge that connects the Pantwari part of the hills with the Nag Tibba.

A few meters later, as you advance on the trail of the rocky mountain, you make an entry into a thick blanket of oak rhododendron and mark your way out of the ascent curve. The surrounding provides a picturesque beauty which you will certainly want to embrace. After this, we come across an isolated small hut stretched on the farmland which is supposed to act as our next landmark. From here, the main campsite is very close and it takes approximately 5 minutes of walk to reach there. The campsite is actually very beautiful with a forest in the background. You will find smoke-like clouds making its way from below just in front of the main campsite. This will certainly take you to a wonderland just like what you would have imagined in your dreams. Day 2 : Trek from Temple Camp to Nag Tibba Summit and drive back to Dehradun

The main objective of day 2 is to trek from the campsite to Nag Tibba Summit and then return back to Dehradun. The whole trek objective has a distance of about 11 km and it takes roughly 5 hours to complete the trek. We then drive you back to Dehradun by 6-7 PM. You can arrange your onward plans accordingly. The beginning of Day 2 should be as early as possible as we have a long day ahead of ourselves. It is very important to have a fresh start on the big day. We need to complete the breakfast and proceed to the trek by 5 am in the morning. The trail starts with a thick covering of the forest. You are introduced to the blanket of snow beneath yourself if you trek the Nag Tibba submit during the winter season. The blanket of snow makes it difficult to find the way to the summit because of the snow covering the whole surface. Making an advancement to the summit, you will come across two open patches of land in 20 to 30 minutes. You will find clearings by the fringes of the forest. After this, the trail becomes quite simple tending to a level walk with a very gentle wavelike motion. The third clearing introduces us to the famous Nag Tibba temple which marks the beginning of the Nag Tibba hill. You can witness the breathtaking peaks of Garhwal Himalayas on a clear sky day.

The trek advances into a forest having a steep inclination which is most probably hidden in snow during the winter season. This snow covering makes the trek challenging but at the same time assures you an amazing experience. Near the summit, there will be a turning which will lead to the ridge and then finally advances you to the dense flag covering marking the Nag Tibba summit. The spectacular view will make you feel like this was the staircase to heaven. Standing at an elevation of 10,000 feet and being surrounded by the elegant ranges of Gangotri, Kedarnath, and many other peaks will surely fill your heart will joy and delight. It will surely be worth the trouble you took to reach here. If the trek continues according to the planned schedule, you can sit back and spend some extra time at the summit amidst the beautiful ambiance. But if you are late, you need to make sure that you make the descent as early as possible because the weather at the summit gets worse by the evening. You can make the descent by the same trail you followed to ascend the top of the Nag Tibba summit.

We were a group of 12 friends and booked a trek to Kedartal with Trekmunk, it was an amazing experience..even though it was our first trek to the Himalayas and Kedartal being a difficult terrain trek we were guided excellently by the Trekmunk team. They served us nutritious food, took complete care of our safety and health and gave us the right advice to overcome AMS. Eagerly awaiting our next trek with them.

No words for the bike trip from Srinagar to Leh. One should experience it to feel it and all this because of the management of Trekmunk especially Mohit and Harshit whose efforts even made the hardest of the ride exciting adventurous and above all safe. Although some hindrances which are quite common like bike issues and medical problems arose with our co-riders, I liked the way these two guys handled it dexterously. I went with one of my best friends and came with a lot more and the trip turned out to be memories that can be cherished for a lifetime. Thanks, Team Trekmunk for giving me a wonderful experience. I can't wait to go on my next adventure with them.

I and my friends went to Markha Valley trek with Trekmunk and we all had a great time. Walking up and down the hill, coming across some beautiful sites was mesmerizing. Staying in tents was so much fun. And our guide had all the knowledge about the trek. Trekmunk is really good with its food and accommodation facilities. I highly recommend Trekmunk. Kudos to their Team.

I was bored with my regular 9 to 5 schedule and then I decided to seclude myself from the chaotic city life. So, I went to Brahmatal trek last month along with a couple of my friends. We went with Trekmunk and it was a lovely experience. The trek guide, Ramesh was very polite and helpful. The food and snacks were amazing. The activities in the campsite during our overnight stay is something that I am gonna cherish my entire life. I am waiting for my next trek with Trekmunk.

I had the most wonderful experience trekking through the ranges of Chandrashila with Trekmunk. The small moments of achievement were phenomenal. Chandrashila is the most astonishing peak that I've ever trekked through; I've never been so fascinated. I think I am going to go for another trek with Trekmunk soon enough! The kind of hospitality that is provided to us is worth appreciating. I made many new friends and have enjoyed each and every day of this trek to its fullest.

Dehradun, Be a part of the ancient Indian mythos …

    5 July, 2021

    Frequently Asked Questions

Why should i go for nag tibba trek.

Are there more compelling reasons than the ability to summit the top of the highest mountain in the Lesser Himalayas- the Nag Tibba in the Garhwal Mountains range, over the course of a weekend? Yes, it is a relatively easy trek and meant for beginners who want to enjoy the thrill of a mountain summit with spectacular views of the snow-capped peaks, rich valleys, and the sprawling, green meadows (Bugyals) and cherish this experience for a lifetime. Many amateur trekking enthusiasts embark on the Nag Tibba Trek from Delhi, and they return with some of the most remarkable memories and exciting stories worth sharing!

What are the important considerations for Nag Tibba Trek?

The Nag Tibba Trek best time is around the year, except the monsoons. The weather remains pleasant throughout the year. The daytime temperatures range between 16 to 25 degrees celsius, and the night-time temperature stays within 8 to 16 degrees Celsius across a significant part of the year. Hence, embarking on the Nag Tibba Trek will not intimate you to extreme and freezing climatic conditions. However, the peak trekking season between September till December (post-monsoon/autumn) encounters daytime temperatures between 14 and 22 degrees celsius. The nights are a bit nippy, with temperatures dropping down to 6 to 14 degrees celsius. Although this time of the year is dominated by clear blue skies offering you panoramic mountain views and natural beauty, the altitude might cause the weather to change drastically. You will experience snow during the winter months, and they start receding by April. The trail type is round, with the 15-kilometer trekking distance taking you to a maximum elevation of 3022 meters at the top of the Nag Tibba. While you are on the trail, you need to stay in campsites comprising dome tents. Traveling with a reputed tour guide or operator will ensure that your Nag Tibba Trek cost is inclusive of the accommodation and meals. Amongst the list of essentials that you need to carry on the Nag Tibba Trek, a pair of sturdy, well-made hiking shoes are the most important. A 20 to 30-liter backpack is enough for the Nag Tibba trekking experience. Apart from these, you need to carry a couple of full-sleeved shirts to prevent your arms and neck from getting sunburnt by the UV rays in the rarified air. Since the maximum altitude is 3022 meters, it might get really cold, and thus you should carry three insulation layers- 2 light fleece layers and 1 light, full-sleeve sweater. A regular padded/shell jacket on the outside keeps the wind out. A pair of quality hiking pants made from the same quick-dry, waterproof material as your full-sleeved shirts will serve the purpose. Apart from these, other essentials include a pair of sunglasses for UV protection, suncap, woolen cap or balaclava, synthetic hand gloves, a few pairs of underwear, and a sports bra (for women). Always carry extra pairs of socks and rainwear like ponchos or raincoats because you never know when the weather turns murky. Rain cover for your backpack is essential, and you should also carry a daypack if you consider offloading. Though the Nag Tibba Trek is rated easy to moderate, there are steep ascents and descents at specific points. Hence, carrying a pair of well-made trekking poles is essential. Apart from these, basic toiletries consisting of biodegradable soaps, excess toilet paper rolls, moisturizers, lip salves, etc., along with medicines and first-aid kits, should be taken. It would be best to carry water bottles and hydration packs to avoid polluting the Himalayas with plastic. Try carrying your own luggage; thus, you need to keep them lightweight and yet pack for all eventualities. Do not litter. The trek is easy to moderate in difficulty and ideal for beginners. Therefore, you can just increase your cardiovascular endurance with swimming, jogging, and light running sessions along with custom indoor fitness routines.

From Kahwa to Pashmina shawls, Kashmir has a lot to offer to its tourists. With views as pristine and divine as heaven, Kashmir has perfectly been given the title of 'Paradise on earth.'

The trekking routes of Uttarakhand are some of the most picturesque ones in India. With the infrastructural developments headed by the tourism department and industries here, these treks have become even more accessible to adventurers. The trekking routes have opened up to all sorts of visitors - trekkers, pilgrims, and amateur trekking enthusiasts.

The Nag Tibba trek is one of these alluring treks of Uttarakhand. In fact, it is the highest peak in the Lower Himalayas region of Uttarakhand, so scaling the peak is quite an achievement. It is complete with mountainous streams, rhododendron and oak forests, snow-capped mountain peaks, and large meadows to soothe the eyes and enrich the soul of the beholders.

    A summit trek:

The trek to Nag Tibba is a summit trek. The trekkers reach 3022 meters, the highest altitude of the peak. It is best done in winter if the trekker is interested in trekking along the snow-carpeted slopes. The trail is slightly offbeat, so it is ideal for trekkers looking for short treks on peaceful routes.

    Beautiful sunrises and sunsets:

One can watch the spectacular sunset behind the mountain ranges as they trek up to the base camp on the trek's first day. If trekkers start early the following day from the basecamp, they will be able to reach the summit and catch a glimpse of breathtaking sunrise against the various Himalayan ranges.

View of the numerous mountain ranges:

The summit presents the trekkers with a panoramic view of the mountain ranges surrounding the region. The ecstatic views of Swargarohini and Gangotri ranges and the Bandarpoonch, Kala Nag, Kedarnath, and Srikanta peaks are the trek's highlights. They look like somber statues with snow-capped peaks in winter, but their snow tops sparkle in the sunlight in summer, making for some of the best photographs ever.

    Impressive forests and meadows:

The trekking trail weaves in and out of the mountain forest with rich biodiversity. Rhododendrons and oaks commonly populate these forests with a few wildflowers in the monsoons. In winter, all the treetops are thick and heavy with snow.

One comes across large clearings while traversing through the Nag Tibba trail. In summer and monsoon, they appear lush green - a beautiful sanctuary of greenery cradled in the lap of the mountains. Come winter, they get covered by thick powdery snow, appearing to be a scene straight out of a winter wonderland.

    The temple of reverence:

The Nag Tibba temple is dedicated to the serpent god. It is located at the base camp. After a long day of trekking, the trekkers pay their respects here before retiring to their camps for the night.

Overview of the Nag Tibba Trek:

    Location and basic information:

The Nag Tibba trek distance is around 15 km, and it lies in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand in India. The trek takes only one weekend to complete. It takes one to the highest point of 3022 meters, from which they get to see the many majestic peaks all around. All trekking enthusiasts can scale this peak.

The Nag Tibba trek cost is around USD 19 to 23 (INR 1400 to 1700). These estimates may not include the hiring charges of an experienced local guide. The price depends upon the trekking package one chooses with their trekking agent.

    Cell Phone Connectivity:

Cell phone connectivity and internet network will not work on this trek. Proper connectivity is found at Dehradun, and a weak signal may be found near the starting point of the trek.

How difficult is the Nag Tibba Trek?

The Nag Tibba trek package has been classified as an easy to moderate level trek. According to expert trekkers and mountaineers, the summit trek can be covered by anyone - including beginners and children. The trail has a steep gradient in some places, but the ascent is quite gentle for the most part.

There always remains a chance of getting altitude sickness and AMS in the mountains. It can be avoided if the trekker stays hydrated throughout the day.

Best time to visit the Nag Tibba Trek:

The best time for Nag Tibba trek is during summer and winter. The clear sparkling surroundings in summer are in stark contrast to the white beauty of winter. But the way each of these seasons holds something attractive for the visitors stays constant throughout the year.

Summer in the mountains is the most pleasant season for trekkers who originate from the plains. To accompany the clear sky with the heat of the sun, a cool breeze always blows to make the experience quite comfortable. The season lasts from April to June. If one is visiting around early April, it is recommended to carry light woolens for a possibly colder night.

    In Monsoon:

The monsoon showers bring a lush green shade to this region. There is nothing like gazing at the soaring peaks with the pitter-patter of raindrops all around. Although the scenic beauty is excellent, the mountains are prone to accidental landslides in the rainy season. These cause unnecessary trouble for the trekkers as roadblocks resulting from landslides are common in this region.

The cold months of October, November, and December are the best time for Nag Tibba trek. The trekking trails are much less crowded now than in other seasons. Trekkers cherish the solitude of the peaceful melancholy of the winters. Snowfall occurs on the trail during the winters, and the scenery soon gets covered in white wherever one turns to see. It reaches sub-zero temperatures in winters here, so it is necessary to carry warm woolens.

Gear guide and checklist for the Nag Tibba Trek:

Any trekking packaging guide will emphasize packing light with all essentials. With that pivotal point in mind, let's find what one's trekking kit should positively contain.

    Apparels, footwear, accessories:

Polyester shirts are light and quick to dry. 2-3 full-sleeved polyester t-shirts can be layered as required during the day treks. For bottom wear, a similar layering technique needs to be followed - 2-3 pairs of sweatpants, track pants, or joggers should be carried. To maintain an optimal body temperature, a thermal innerwear set will be required. This may not be worn during the day treks in summer, but the extra warmth can provide comfort at night since cold winds are prevalent.

Cardigans or fleece sweaters can be layered with padded, down jackets with a hood. It will be ideal for trekking in autumn and winter. The trekker runs the risk of losing heat from the head, especially in the colder Nag Tibba weather. To prevent this, they must carry a woolen cap or balaclava to wear under the hood of the padded jacket. Woolen gloves, woolen socks, and quick-dry synthetic sports socks can be layered as and when needed to keep the body warm.

If the trekker is traveling in the rainy season, they should carry an umbrella, a light poncho, and a raincoat. Other necessary accessories one should bring to a trek include:

    • UV-protection sunglasses.
    • Sunscreen lotion.
    • Battery-powered torches.
    • Phone and camera battery charger.
    • A pair of sturdy trekking poles.

In winter and monsoon, the wet, snow, or moss-covered trekking trail is very slippery to trek along. Trekking boots with proper ankle support and microspikes will help with the feet' grip. While buying a new pair, a trekker must ensure that they are waterproof, sturdy, and broken in a few weeks before the commencement of the trek.

Gaiters are beneficial footwear accessories. They will help the footwear gather as minimum dust as possible. Gaiters will also prevent random debris from getting collected inside the shoe and hurting the trekker's foot.

The campsite at such a high elevation can become chilling cold. A thick, good-quality sleeping bag will help the trekker keep warm at night on this trek.

    Backpacks and waterproof covers:

A backpack of 45 liters capacity should be enough for a weekend trek to Nag Tibba. While this will contain all the supplies and clothes, essentials like electronics should be placed in a smaller fanny pack for easy access. Trekkers carrying a camera, various batteries, and mobile phones can benefit from this.

Trekkers can offload the extra luggage in Pantwari.

Any mountain trek packing should have sufficient waterproofing measures. Waterproof covers for the backpack and water-resistant bags will help the trekkers protect their electronics, camera, other equipment, wallets, and essential documents from any damage.

    Toiletries and hygiene products:

Carrying a personal toiletry set to maintain hygiene on mountain treks is essential. It should contain a toothbrush, toothpaste, biodegradable soap, moisturizer, lip balm, hand sanitizer, and deodorant for personal use. If the trekkers want to clean up quickly, toilet paper, rolls of tissue paper, and wet wipes will help.

For female trekkers, menstrual hygiene is always a matter of concern. They should carry enough sanitary napkins, tampons, or menstrual cups for maximum comfort.

    Medical kit with first-aid:

Some of the most common ailments one might experience on a trip are fever, common cold, allergy, and stomach upsets. A trekker should keep paracetamols, anti-nausea medicines, antihistamines, antacids, and painkillers at hand to treat these quickly. This will prevent the condition from worsening any further.

Carrying a simple first-aid kit should be enough for treating any minor injuries or sprains. It should contain a pain-relieving spray, bandaids, gauze swabs, antiseptic liquid, ointment, crepe bandages, and insect repellent cream. The drinking water is often sourced from streams and natural reservoirs on treks. To ensure the safety of this water, one should also carry water-purifying tablets.

    Important documents:

One should carry their identity proof and at least two photocopies of it for all the registration purposes at any check posts. The identity proof should also contain the address of the trekker. Two passport-sized photographs should also be carried in case of any urgent needs. Visas and passports should be kept safe by foreigners.

    Nag Tibba Trek itinerary:

The Nag Tibba trek itinerary can be covered in a weekend. The starting point of the trek can be reached from the many different arrival spots for tourists and trekkers. The Jolly Grant airport of Dehradun is well-connected to the major Indian cities through the Delhi airport.

The Dehradun railway station also has regular trains once again from Delhi. Dehradun can also be reached from Delhi by overnight Volvo buses.

    • Day 1: The starting point of the trek is at Pantwari. On the first day, the trekkers arrive at Dehradun and take a cab via Mussoorie and Nainbagh. During this 85 km drive that takes around 4 hours, the cab stops at the Kempty Falls for refreshments and the scenic beauty of the waterfall. One also crosses the famous Yamuna Bridge on their way. The Pantwari village is located at the height of 1415 meters. From here starts the trek towards the base camp. This 6 km trek takes around 6-7 hours to complete. This part of the trail has a gradual ascent. On the way, the trekkers will come across the Nag Devta temple, a shrine dedicated to the serpent god. This is where the shepherds sought blessings. Since ancient times, the shepherds have used the rugged trail to find meadows where their cattle could graze. The trekking trail passes a motorable road here now and then. After these crossings, the trekkers can refill their water supplies from the mountainous stream, water from which is collected into a reservoir. The trekkers are soon led inside the forested areas by the trail, yet it can be fully recognized from the clear markings. There is barely any chance of getting lost here unless the trail markings have been swept under the snow because of the cold Nag Tibba weather in peak winter. The base camp lies at an altitude of 2600 meters amidst a large clearing. The Nag Tibba temple is one of the major landmarks here. The sunset against the lofty peaks of the Garhwal Himalayas is a delight to watch as the trekkers reach their camping destination for the night. This is undoubtedly a photograph-worthy spot.
    • Day 2: One should wake up early to get that perfect shot of the sunrise at the Nag Tibba summit. It takes an hour or so to get to the summit from the base camp, so starting early is essential. The trail once again leads the trekkers into the forest. The shady forested region is frigid. Beyond the forest cover lies a steeply ascending trail leading to the trek's highest point at 3022 meters. This is the Nag Tibba summit or the 'Jhandi,' and a flag marks it. From here, one can see the various peaks of the Himalayan ranges in the distance. The 360-degree panoramic view is exceptionally breathtaking as the trekkers are surrounded by clouds passing through at such a height. The Swargarohini, Bandarpoonch, Gangotri, Kala Nag, Kedarnath, and Srikanta ranges and peaks stand at the left side of the summit point. The trekkers explore the region here, capture the beautiful surroundings and soon begin to descend to the Khatian village camp for lunch. Around late afternoon they reach the village starting point. Cabs are readily available here to take the trekkers back to Dehradun from where they can leave for their hometowns or embark on their next adventure.

Getting fit for the Nag Tibba Trek:

The trek to Nag Tibba is an easy to moderate level trek. So, it does not require any special training on the part of the trekker's preparation. Yet, one needs to be physically fit and active to cover this 15 km trek.

Building core strength and stamina are essential for getting ready for a mountain trek. Running, jogging, brisk walking, squatting, swimming, and skipping ropes can be useful for this. Meditative practices, yoga exercises, and pranayama can also help build one's mental fortitude and determination. This is a fundamental trait required for adventurers to overcome the encountered obstacles or challenges.

The trek to Nag Tibba is a top-rated winter summit trek among beginner and amateur trekkers. The splendid views, along with the thrilling experience of a trekking adventure in just two days, are unmatched. Following the guide's instructions and taking all necessary precautions will surely make the trek a very memorable one for the trekkers.

We all know summit climbs are incredibly rewarding in a trek. This is why we have trekkers flocking to treks like Kedarkantha or Deoriatal-Chandrashila. On a trail like Nag Tibba, you get to experience the thrill of a summit climb in just a weekend!

Resting at 9915 ft, the summit of this trek is the highest in the Nag Tibba range of the Garhwal Himalayas . From here, you see a 100-degree view of snow-capped Himalayan ranges such as Swargrohini, Bandarpoonch, Kala Nag, Srikanth, and Gangotri. You also see Kedarnath peak in the north, Doon valley, and the snowy peaks of Changabang. With views like this and a climb to make you earn them, this weekend trek may be one of the best.

As you go up one side of the mountain and come down from another side, you also experience a variety of landscapes. This trek takes you through dense forests, clearings, and ridge walks. All within two days!

This relatively unknown trail near Mussoorie is a good fit for trekkers living in Delhi and the National Capital Region who want to have an adventure over the weekend. For beginners, this trek is great as an introductory trek to the world of trekking.

What To Watch Out For on Nag Tibba Trek

Here are the Highlights from Nag Tibba Trek

1 . The view of the sunset from campsite

This is one of the few treks we have where you can see spellbinding sunsets. This is because of the direction this trail faces. On a clear day, you see big snow-capped mountains like Swargarohini, Bandarpoonch, Kalanag, Srikanth, and Gangotri lighting up a shade of fiery orange. Below you, you see a bed of clouds float. You don’t even have to climb to a high point to see this sunset. You can see it right from your campsite!

    nag tibba trek in december

The sunset view from the Khatian campsite is stunning to say the least. Picture by Kumar Amrit

2 . The trail to Bhatwadi village

The summit day for Nag Tibba is a long one. Right after you touch the summit, you start descending to a village called Bhatwadi. This route is extremely picturesque. An hour into your descent, you enter a clearing called Moriana where there is a stream on one side and you see a couple of shepherds’ huts on the other side. This place is encircled by forests. It is a lovely spot for taking photographs!

From here, the trail goes through a lovely forest cover that moves along the stream. When you enter farms after an hour or so, you are disappointed that such a beautiful trail is coming to an end.

Note : Depending on the group’s fitness, weather conditions and snow, your Trek Leader takes a final call whether you descend from Bhatwadi or retrace the route back to Panthwari

    5 Reasons Why Indiahikes

    nag tibba trek in december

When we brought out new trails in Indian trekking, safety came with us. Back in 2012, we were the first to introduce microspikes, and two years later, pulse oximeters became standard thanks to us. Nobody does safe treks like Indiahikes. In the mountains, emergencies don't care who you're with – everyone knows that when trouble hits, you look for the yellow tents of Indiahikes.

    nag tibba trek in december

We are pioneers in trekking. Since 2007, we have brought out treks that have become India's most famous treks: Roopkund, Rupin Pass, Buran Ghati, Kedarkantha, Kashmir Great Lakes, Tarsar Marsar, Brahmatal, Phulara Ridge—the list goes on. In 2023 alone, we brought out five new treks in Indian trekking. We know treks better than anyone . This comes directly from the reason why Indiahikes was born: to bring out trek information and enable trekkers to trek on their own.

    nag tibba trek in december

More than 25,000 people trek with us every year. We are the largest trekking organisation in India. 24% of our trekkers come back to trek with us every year. Over 4,000 students from the top educational institutions trek with us every year. Aside from this, families with children choose to trek with Indiahikes knowing that our treks are the safest. We have taken over 8000 children trekking so far, and the number continues to grow.

    nag tibba trek in december

We focus on designing transformative experiences. Our trek leaders conduct thought-provoking exercises that help you reflect and contemplate. This impact stays with you for a long time. Trekkers return feeling energised, more confident, or developing abilities to deal with difficulties. Many have changed careers, rethought their core values, become more humble, shown gratitude to others, or started a new fitness journey.

    nag tibba trek in december

Since 2012, we have pioneered sustainable practices that have become standard in trekking. Using eco-bags, our trekkers have cleared over 120 tonnes of litter from the mountains. We do not carry packaged foods; instead, we serve freshly made food. We do not light campfires; we carry coal to light angethis to keep you warm. Our bio-toilets not only keep our toilets odour-free but also enrich the soil. When you trek with us, you leave mountains better.

    Indiahikes Features

You’re guarded with our trek again philosophy

    nag tibba trek in december

If you are unable to complete a trek, or if you love a trek, you can repeat it with us anytime. You don’t have to pay us for it. See our thoughts behind this here .

Daily 3-time health checks keep you safe at any altitude

    nag tibba trek in december

Our thrice-a-day oxi-metre checks keep altitude sickness at bay, never allowing you to reach a point where you need evacuation.

Join any group, they are all women-friendly groups

    nag tibba trek in december

With around 30% of our trekkers being women, all women, including those travelling solo are comfortable to join any of our groups.

    Request Jain/Vegan-friendly food

    nag tibba trek in december

Our kitchen teams understand your needs as a vegan (or a Jain). We will take special care of your food, even in the remote Himalayas.

Be comfortable and sustainable with bio toilets

    nag tibba trek in december

We have specially designed bio toilets to ensure you have no sight or smell in toilets, at the same time making sure the toilets cause no harm to the fragile ecosystem we trek in.

Fresh, nutritious food at every camp

    nag tibba trek in december

We’ll admit it. Our love for food surpasses our love for minimalism. Expect freshly cooked, multi-cuisine food at all camps, designed to meet your nutritional requirements and keep your taste buds happy!

    Leaving Mountains Better

Green Trails is our promise to leave the mountains better. We have removed over 1 lakh kilos of the waste left behind by others on trekking trails. Yet this is a small percentage of what we do. Green Trails dives into reducing the use of resources, reducing our carbon footprint and bringing about a change in the daily practices of our trekkers too.

    On a Cheap Trip

Nag Tibba Trek – An exciting snow trek in the lap of Himalayas

amazing place to camp at Nag Tibba Trek

They say he generally travels alone. Little did they know, in a land loaded with full of unfamiliar things, the thirst of wanderlust is familiar !! Why do I prefer to travel solo? Why don’t I opt for packaged tours ? A tour package is generally expensive but is this the only reason for not preferring them. Probably not!! A couple of months back, I went to the Nag Tibba Trek on a packaged tour by BanBanjara  a registered tour operator. It was my first ever booking of a tour package. Hey Abhi!! Why did you opt for a package tour???

Trekking on Snow routes on Nag Tibba Trek

Snow routes on Nag Tibba trek

Last year, BanBanjara organized a blog-writing contest in which the participants were required to share their trekking experiences. The winner was to get a BanBanjara voucher worth Rs. 3000 . Since I was planning a trip to Uttarakhand ; I used that voucher to book a seat for Nag Tibba Trek which costs the same. This was such a brilliant opportunity to experience a tour package first hand.

In route to Nag Tibba Base camp

Hang on Abhi!!  Is this a post on pros and cons of a tour package? Oops sorry!! Let’s talk about the beautiful Nag Tibba Trek.  Standing at an astonishing height of around 9915 feet (3022 meters), Nag Tibba Mountain is the highest peak in the Nag Tibba range of the Garhwal Himalayas .

my shadow on Nag Tibba Trek

    Snow covered Nag Tibba Trek

It is the perfect trek for beginners who are looking to experience trekking on snow (in winters) amidst beautiful surroundings. From lush green valleys to the wide expanse of meadows, from magnificent forest to snow-covered Himalayan peaks, the 2 to 3 days Nag Tibba Trek has everything on offer.

On the trek, one can enjoy the breathtaking view of Himalayan Peaks like Bandarpoonch , Black Peak , Neelkanth , Swargarohini , Kedarnath , changabang and various other peaks.

How to reach Nag Tibba Trek Base Village

Reaching Nag Tibba trek base village is a bit challenging as no direct transport is available from the major towns. The nearest railway station to Pantwari (Base village of Nag Tibba Trek) is Dehradun which is around 90 kms. Dehradun is well connected to other parts of the country via railways. (Delhi to Dehradun is 285 kms – 6 hours train journey)

From Dehradun, you will need to catch a bus/shared taxi for Nainbagh (75 kms- 3 hours) from where shared taxi/ bus to Pantwari are available (15 kms – 30 to 40 minutes). There are also various other routes from where one can reach Nag Tibba summit.

How to reach Nag Tibba trek base village from Delhi Haridwar and Dehradun

    Nag Tibba Trek route

There are various trekking routes from where one can reach the summit of Nag Tibba. One can start the trek from Devalsari from where the summit is around 11 kms. One can also start the trek from Aunter, (a small village) from where the summit is around 6-7 kms.  The route is mostly uphill but well-marked.

Auntad Village on Nag Tibba Trek

    Aunter Village

The third option is to start from Pantwari village, reach the summit and descent either from the same route or to the Aunter side. This route is the busiest one and is generally preferred by most tour operators. There is no public transport from Aunter, but any local going till Thatyur will surely give you a lift. From Thatyur, you will get various transports to reach Dehradun. The trek is easily doable in 2 days.

Note: If you are doing this trek solo, I would highly recommend the third option as you may find fellow trekkers all the way and chances of getting lost will be very less.

    Nag tibba Trek route

    Permission needed for the trek

Depending on your starting point, you may need to get permission from the forest department at Pantwari or Aunter. Though no one checks the permit, you may end up paying fine if you are caught without one. I don’t have much idea on this as I was on a packaged tour. You may inquire from the locals once you get there.

The difficulty level of Nag Tibba Trek

This trek is perfect for the beginners with a decent fitness level.  The trail from Pantwari to the base camp is mostly uphill and takes around 5-6 hours to reach the same. From base camp, it takes around 1 hour to reach the summit. From the summit, one can descent all the way to Aunter in 4-5 hours, with route almost being downhill.

My Journey to Nag Tibba Base Camp

It all started from Dehradun; everyone who had booked a seat to Nag Tibba Trek was asked to gather outside the Dehradun railway station. BanBanjara had arranged a tempo traveler to reach the Pantwari village.

Cute kid Auntad Village on Nag tibba Trek

After around 4 hours of road journey through some bumpy roads, we reached the base village. At the village, we were divided into groups of 10 and were assigned with a group leader.

Beautiful landscape as seen on Nag Tibba Trek

I can keep on writing and be expounding about this beautiful trek but I know it’s exhausting to read such lengthy posts. Let’s keep it short!!! After flag off from the trek lead, we were good to begin with the daring adventure.

Trek lead signalling to start with the Nag Tibba trek Uttrakhand

    Time for Flag off

The target for Day 1 was to reach the Nag Tibba Base camp. The route is mostly covered with dense forest cover with few patches of snow. After trekking almost all uphill route for around 4-5 hours, we made it to the Nag Tibba Base camp.

Our camping area at Nag Tibba Trek

    Nag Tibba Base Camp

It was freezing cold at Nag Tibba base camp (almost -4 to 6 degree) and everyone was in a rush to get into the tents. I could see millions of stars shining to their brightest, a view which I miss living in a crowded town. I took my camera out and started capturing those views.

Hollow tree at Nag Tibba Trek

    Amazing tree structure

Next day was planned for a hike to the Nag Tibba Summit and descending back to the base camp. It generally takes around 1 hour to reach the summit. The route is completely covered with deep snow.

cool down after Nag Tibba Trek

    Cooldown session

We started around 9 am from base camp and were back by 1:00 am with no more trekking plans for the day. Now comes the point why I don’t like tour packages.

    • They are expensive!! That is for sure!!
    • The trek is easily doable in 2 days. But the tour package had a planned itinerary for 3 days.
    • Both days of trekking we started around 9 am, in my case I would have started way early.
    • Every trekker had a different speed of trekking but everyone was asked to walk with the group. There was always a feeling that someone had tied up ropes on my legs. Walking that slow made me felt like I was not trekking at all.

I am not against tour packages!! It’s just that, while I am on a trek or a journey, I don’t like such restrictions.

    Sunrise at Nag Tibba Trek

The plan for day 3 was to descend from the Aunter side of the Nag Tibba forest range. The route is mostly downhill and is covered with Pine and Deodar trees. It took around 3-4 hours to reach the beautiful Auntar village. I fell in love with the beauty of this village and especially the village kids. They were so cute!!!

    Kids at Aunter village

After few cool down sessions, it was time to put an end to the beautiful Nag Tibba trek. The tempo travelers were already waiting at the village to depart. I would like to thank BanBanjara for organizing such an amazing trek. I have no hard feelings for them, it’s just the overall concept of tour package which I don’t like.

Best time to visit Nag Tibba Trek

It totally depends on what exactly you want to experience on the trek. For snowfall, plan a trek to Nag Tibba in months of December to March. If you looking to experience the view of lush green surroundings, October to November would be the best time. I would suggest avoiding doing the trek in monsoon months of July to September as chances of landslides are high.

Hairy dog accompanying on Nag Tibba Trek

Food and stay options at Nag Tibba Trek

There are few shops at Pantwari and Auntar where you can buy the basic food items to carry along on the trek. On the whole trek, there is absolutely no food and stay option. You need to put in your own tent and prepare food all by yourself.
