Simply Red in Kiel: Begeisterung und starke Emotionen

Die britische Band Simply Red hat mit Hits wie "Better with you" und "Holding back the years" beim Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival eingeheizt und damit bei vielen Fans ganz persönliche Erinnerungen geweckt.

Simply Red, die Soul-Popband aus England beim Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival? Ja, das passt gut, denn das Festival hat in diesem Jahr das Schwerpunktthema London. Und es passte auch der Band um Sänger Mick Hucknall, denn diese ist gerade mit einer Zwölf-Städte-Tour in Deutschland unterwegs. Das Konzert in der Wunderino Arena in Kiel war fast komplett ausverkauft - und die Fans waren begeistert.

Schon seit 38 Jahren begeistert die Band um Rotschopf Hucknall ein Millionenpublikum auf der ganzen Welt. Die Songs erzählen dabei mitunter von ganz persönlichen Erlebnissen.

Etwa, "Better with you" vom neuen Simply-Red-Album "Time", eine Liebeserklärung an Hucknalls Frau Gabrielle. Ein Liebeslied, mit dem er gleich zu Beginn des Konzerts gestern Abend eine romantische Atmosphäre verbreitet. Doch so richtig springt der Funke erst über, als Hucknall ankündigt, dass es jetzt zurück in die Achtziger gehe.

Persönliche Erinnerungen, auch bei den Fans

Bei "Holding back the years" werden die Smartphones gezückt und fast alle, die hier mit schunkeln und mitsingen, egal welchen Alters, verbinden eine persönliche Erinnerung mit den Songs von Simply Red. Sänger Hucknall genießt das, wie er zum Auftakt der Tour der BBC erzählte.

"Ich kann einen Song schreiben, der etwas ganz persönliches für mich bedeutet", sagte der Sänger. "Aber es ist eine der großen Freuden beim Songschreiben, wenn Leute sagen, ich habe den Song bei meiner Hochzeit gespielt oder auf der Beerdigung meines Vaters oder so. Das gibt einem das Gefühl, das Leben der Menschen zu bereichern." Und das beweist die Band mit ihren Hits den ganzen Abend immer wieder.

Mit "If you dont know me by now" geht das wunderbare Konzert in Kiel zu Ende und lässt viele begeisterte Fans zurück: "Super! Hat uns sehr, sehr gut gefallen!"  "Es war von vorne bis hinten großartig!" In 38 Jahren auf der Bühne haben Simply Red also nichts verlernt.

The secret of the successful rock and soul group, Simply Red, lies in the quality of lead singer Mick Hucknall’s high-reaching voice. This sublime instrument, married to bluesy rock music and superb songs, was a match made in heaven. The wonder of Hucknall’s voice has never dimmed in the group's 25-year existence. It was evident at their 2010 exit concert in London’s O2 Arena, when Hucknall sang the group’s 1989 hit song, "Every Time We Say Goodbye." Members of the silent crowd shed tears as the voice, interwoven with notes from piano and violin, sounded round the performance space. However, more upbeat ballads, such as "The Right Thing," soon dispelled the melancholic mood of the crowd who rocked to the occasion. These songs are, of course, among the 61 definitive tracks on the group’s exit album, the "Simply Red Song Book 1985 – 2010." Hucknall founded the group in 1985 with the help of music manager Elliot Rashman. The initial releases proved unremarkable until the group scored a hit with the single, "Holding Back The Years," a song that Hucknall had written for his earlier group, the Frantic Elevators. With songs like "If You Don’t Know Me By Now" and "Money’s Too Tight," hit followed hit for the remainder of the decade. Ever since, Simply Red has been a household name, with album sales in excess of 25 million, augmented by ticket sales for concert and tour venues. Hucknall has won a glass case of awards, including three Brit awards, two Ivor Novello awards and a MOBO. Simply Red may be no more as a group, but with a recording history like this, their music will always be evergreen.

Simply Red announce summer 2023 European tour dates

Simply Red will return to the stage with a string of European summer shows for 2023.

Following a run of 73 gigs over the course of this year, Mick Hucknall and co. show no sign of slowing down with an initial run of 20 concerts unveiled so far.

“The band and I are looking forward to being back in Europe next summer to perform for you all,” says the group’s frontman. “This tour is ALL about the groove. Get on down!”

According to a press release, more shows will be announced in due course.

Tickets go on general sale November 11 at 10 am CET.

Simply Red announce Summer 2023 European tour dates

Simply Red have announced a string of European Summer shows for 2023.

The 20 dates will see band visit venues across Europe, performing all of their Greatest Hits.

Mick Hucknall says.  “The band and I are looking forward to being back in Europe next Summer to perform for you all. This tour is ALL about the groove. Get on down!”

Fans can expect Simply Red to deliver all their well-loved classics, including ‘Stars’, ‘Holding Back The Years’, ‘Fairground’, and ‘Money’s Too Tight To Mention’.

More dates are expected to be announced soon and we’ll bring those to you as soon as have the information!

Simply Red announce only UK show of 2023 at intimate London venue

Simply Red will launch their new album with a special one-off show in London this summer.

In what will be the band's most intimate show for nearly 20 years, Mick Hucknall 's group will play at London's O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire on June 5.

Tickets will go on pre-sale on May 2 at 10am, and fans can get access to tickets when they pre-order Simply Red ’s brand new album Time from April 10 via the band’s website ( www.simplyred.com ).

“We’re very happy to be performing our album launch show at Shepherd’s Bush Empire” Mick said.

“It’s been 18 years since we’ve played at this iconic venue, and we look forward to performing classics as well as new album material in a very special and intimate environment”.

The show will be the group's only UK gig of the year, before they embark on a world tour in the summer.

Simply Red is a British soul and pop band. The first incarnation of the band was a punk group called The Frantic Elevators, whose seven-year run produced limited releases on local labels and ended in 1984 upon critical acclaim for their final single, “Holding Back the Years”.

By early 1985, Mick Hucknall and manager Elliot Rashman had assembled a band of local session musicians and begun to attract record company attention. The group adopted the name “Red” (after Hucknall’s nickname, denoting his hair colour) but then Mick decided it would sound better with the addition of the word ‘Simply.’

Since the mid 1980s, the band has sold more than 50 million albums.

Simply Red have announced a London show.

The Manchester group will take over the O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire on June 5, with tickets on general sale at 10am on May 4.

The concert will see Mick Hucknall and band celebrating their new album, 'Time', which is due out through Warner Music on May 26. They announced the follow-up to 2019's 'Blue Eyed Soul' back in March, previewing it with the single Better With You .

Following the London date, they'll embark on a previously scheduled run of dates across Europe, which includes a headline slot at Switzerland's Montreux Jazz Festival.
