East boynton beach blaze baseball heading to ripken experience tournament.

Author

The Blaze 11U recently finished as the runner-up at the East Coast State Championship tournament at the USSSA Space Coast Florida Complex in Viera. The 11U AAA division featured six teams from the state. The Blaze finished 1-0-1 in pool play to secure a first-round bye for the elimination stage of the tournament. After winning the semifinal contest against the Space Coast Rockets to advance to the championship game, the team fell 5-4 to Lakewood Ranch Legacy.

The East Boynton Beach Blaze 11U travel baseball team finished as the runner-up at the East Coast State Championship tournament in Viera.

The East Coast State Championship helped prepare the group for its upcoming tournament at the Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina in July. The players also were able to gain experience playing on turf fields at the complex in Viera.

After the Blaze 10U had a strong start at 7-2 last spring, the season was stopped due to COVID-19. The group has excelled after returning to the field. The Blaze 11U finished 14-5 during the spring and reached the championship game in the South Florida Travel Baseball League. It fell 7-5 to the West Boynton Cobras Blue in the finals. It also went 15-9 in the fall while winning the Winter Bash Tournament as the team stepped up against local travel baseball teams in Palm Beach County. The Blaze 11U also earned runner-up honors in the South Florida Travel Baseball League.

The Blaze 11U group, under the direction of coach Luke Evans, includes Marcus Stracke, Hunter Cenkar, Evans Zajc, Gabriel Dietrick, Tyler Johnson, Jace Hughes, Jackson Evans, Devin Brooks, Matthew Shapiro and Jacoby Fernandez.

“Being in the championship the last two seasons has been a tremendous accomplishment for these kids,” Evans said. “They work hard and have a bright future.”

The Blaze travel baseball program took off after the East Boynton Beach Little League 8U All-Stars defeated West Boynton to capture the District 7 Championship.

West Boynton, left, and East Boynton teams played in the South Florida Travel Baseball League 11U Spring Title Game.

“I just felt it was a good group of kids who love to play baseball and so we formed the East Boynton Beach Blaze 8U,” Evans said. “We played some games together that summer and then joined the South Florida Travel Baseball League here in Palm Beach County in the fall to begin our 9U season. We spent the next few seasons learning how to play baseball and also be a team. This team has core players who have stayed together since the inaugural season and only had a few changes in players.”

The Blaze 11U still has eight members who participated on the East Boynton Beach Little League 8U All-Star squad.

“Most of our kids also play at East Boynton Beach Little League,” Evans said. “I have noticed since starting this team, kids would leave our little league in search of travel teams. Therefore, over the last couple of years, I have worked to establish a travel program for East Boynton Beach. I realized if you do not offer travel baseball adjacent with your local rec league, kids will leave looking for more baseball. Therefore, I have worked to create more Blaze teams with the help of many people.”

The Blaze 8U, led by coach Jeremy Weiss, has been successful with a 20-12 record. The Blaze 9U and 10U teams are led by Ryan Lamb, who has helped players improve through training with the XLB organization. The Blaze 9U also finished as the runner-up in the South Florida Travel Baseball League during the spring. The Blaze is expected to add another 8U squad for the upcoming fall season and hold teams from the 8U-12U age groups.

Evans is a current board member and coach at East Boynton Beach Little League. He joined in the fall of 2015.

“My two boys both play there and have many friendships through baseball,” he said. “I wanted to create a place kids are proud to be from and they get to keep playing baseball with all their friends. That was my motivation for helping create this East Boynton Blaze group of travel teams that are filled with East Boynton Little League kids. With the growth of our league and increased demand for use of Little League Park, I have also rekindled our relationship with the city of Boynton, who has been extremely helpful in revitalizing our fields and community baseball park.”

Evans also enjoys the friendly cross-town rivalry between the East Boynton and West Boynton teams. Evans was college baseball teammates with Dax Rankine, who is the coach of the West Boynton Cobras Blue 11U. They both have children the same age and have been able to compete against each other.

From left, Dax and Gavin Rankine and Luke and Jackson Evans enjoy cross-town rivalry on the West Boynton and East Boynton teams, respectively.

“It’s been a great experience with baseball the last few years at East Boynton,” Evans said. “I played college baseball at Palm Beach Atlantic University and have been fortunate enough to be able to continue to be involved through youth sports.”

"I couldn't have been more impressed with everything about the new complex. The fields played awesome, the dugouts were huge, concessions are conveniently located near each field, your staff was always top notch and very professional...the kids loved playing on the turf." Danny L. Tillery Atlantic American 10U - Baseball
"There is not another place in the country that I’ve played that’s near as nice. SpaceX Starlink rocket launch on Wednesday: List of Florida beaches, parks & best views to watch

Anyone up for another rocket launch? After two Monday launches , another  SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket  will potentially lift off on Wednesday afternoon, carrying Starlink internet satellites.

Weather permitting, the rocket launch could be visible in the sky above the Treasure Coast and Space Coast on the afternoon of Wednesday, May 8. Below is a calendar for upcoming rocket launches and how to watch the SpaceX rocket launch this week.

Is there a rocket launch in Florida today? Rocket launch calendar for Florida

Here's what we know about the rocket launch missions, mentioned in  FLORIDA TODAY's rocket launch calendar  for the month, which is updated frequently. (Check that link often for rocket launch times and dates because they are routinely subject to change for a variety of reasons).

FLORIDA TODAY, a USA TODAY Network-Florida newspaper, provides interactive launch coverage at  floridatoday.com/space  with frequent updates on launches at least 90 minutes in advance, sometimes longer, depending on the mission.

For questions or comments, email  Space Reporter Rick Neale  at [email protected] or tweet him  @rickneale1  on X, the social platform formerly known as Twitter.

'What is that?!' A SpaceX rocket that launched from Florida was spotted -- in Texas

Is SpaceX launching from Florida? Wednesday, May 8: SpaceX Starlink 6-56

Though SpaceX has yet to announce this mission, Federal Aviation Administration and National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency navigational warnings show a Starlink launch window will open Wednesday morning.

Here are some details about the upcoming SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launch:

  • Mission:  A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket will launch a batch of Starlink internet satellites from KSC.
  • Launch window:  10:42 a.m. to 3:13 p.m. EDT on Wednesday, May 8
  • Location:  Pad 39A.
  • Trajectory:  Southeast.
  • Local sonic boom:  No.
  • Booster landing:  Drone ship out on the Atlantic Ocean.
  • Live coverage:  Starts 90 minutes before liftoff at  floridatoday.com/space .

Where to watch a SpaceX rocket launch from Space Coast of Florida

Pretty much anywhere  in Brevard, you'll get a view of the rocket  launch. The best view to watch a rocket launch from the Space Coast is along the beach. However, visibility will depend on weather conditions and people should make sure not to block traffic or rights of way on bridges and to follow posted rules at beaches.

If you are viewing the launch along the Indian River in Titusville from Space View Park or Parrish Park, look east directly across the river.

If you are farther south along the Indian River, look northeast.

Playalinda Beach or Canaveral National Seashore is the closest spot to view liftoff because it is almost parallel to Launch Pad 39A. On the beach, look south along the coastline, (you can even see the pad from some spots).

Some hotspots to check out:

  •  Jetty Park Beach and Pier , 400 Jetty Park Road,  Port Canaveral . Note, there's a charge to park.
  •   Playalinda Beach , 1000 Playalinda Beach Road, Canaveral National Seashore. Note, there's a charge to park, and access to Canaveral National Seashore isn't always granted depending on capacity and time of day.
  •   Max Brewer Bridge and Parrish Park , 1 A. Max Brewer Memorial Parkway, Titusville. Note, parking is available on both sides of Max Brewer Bridge.
  •   Space View Park , 8 Broad St., Titusville
  •  Sand Point Park , 10 E. Max Brewer Causeway, Titusville
  •   Rotary Riverfront Park , 4141 S. Washington Ave., Titusville
  • Alan Shepard Park , 299 E. Cocoa Beach Causeway, Cocoa Beach. Note, there could be parking costs.
  •   Cocoa Beach Pier , 401 Meade Ave. Parking fee varies.
  •   Lori Wilson Park , 1400 N. Atlantic Ave., Cocoa Beach. Lori Wilson Park has a dog park, by the way.
  •   Sidney Fischer Park , 2200 N. Atlantic Ave., Cocoa Beach. Note, there could be parking costs.
  •   Sebastian Inlet Park , 9700 S. State Road A1A, Melbourne Beach (there is a cost to enter)
  •   Ambersands Beach Park , 12566 N. SR A1A, Vero Beach (free parking)
  •  South Beach Park , 1700 Ocean Drive, Vero Beach (free parking)
  •  Merrill Barber Bridge in Vero Beach
  • Alma Lee Loy Bridge in Vero Beach

Can I see a rocket from the Treasure Coast? Where can I see a launch in Indian River County, St. Lucie County and Martin County?

The best views to watch a rocket launch from neighboring Brevard County, aka the Space Coast, is along the beach.

Visibility in Indian River County,  St. Lucie County  and Martin County, all part of the Treasure Coast, will depend on weather conditions, and people should make sure not to block traffic or rights of way on bridges and to follow posted rules at beaches. Look due north. Here are some recommended spots, from closest to Cape Canaveral Space Force Station and Kennedy Space Center to farthest:

Pretty much anywhere in Brevard, you'll get a view of the rocket launch. That includes  Melbourne Beach , which borders Indian River County, or from Grant-Valkaria along the Indian River Lagoon.

How about watching a rocket launch in Volusia County ?

Watching a rocket launch  or  waiting for that launch window  while at the beach is a pretty Florida thing to do.

In Volusia County, immediately north of Brevard County — home to Kennedy Space Center and Cape Canaveral Space Force Station — you can get a great view of a SpaceX, NASA or United Launch Alliance rocket launch.

The  best views to watch a rocket launch from here  is along the beach. Look due south. Readers have also mentioned seeing a rocket launch from New Smyrna Beach, Daytona Beach and Ormond Beach. Here are some recommended spots:

  •   South New Smyrna Beach  (Canaveral National Seashore), there may be parking costs. New Smyrna Beach features 17 miles of white sandy beaches. An eclectic and quaint beach town, despite its reputation as the "Shark Bite Capital of the World," New Smyrna Beach has always been a haven for surfers who come for the waves.

Dinner and a launch:  Perfect for a SpaceX or NASA rocket launch, best waterfront restaurants in Volusia County

  •   Mary McLeod Bethune Beach Park , 6656 S. Atlantic Ave., New Smyrna Beach. Bethune Beach, which is 3.5 miles south of New Smyrna Beach and one mile north of the Apollo Beach entrance to Canaveral National Seashore Park, has restrooms, picnic pavilions, showers and nearly 800 feet of beachfront sidewalk,  according to Volusia County's site . Easy Expat - International Relocation Portal: Move, Work, Live Abroad

The largest country in the world at 17,075,400 square kilometres (or 6,592,800 sq mi), Russia has accumulated quite an impressive reputation. Covering more than an eight of the Earth's land area, 142 million people live there making it the ninth largest nation by population . Still known for its impressive days as the expansive Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR), Russia was the world's first and largest constitutionally socialist state. A recognized superpower, the USSR was known for its excellence in both arts and science winning many awards in both fields.

Russia changed drastically after the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991, but it continues to be a powerful and important nation. It has one of the world's fastest growing economies and the world's eight largest GDP by nominal GDP. Russia is also one of the five countries which officially recognized nuclear weapons states. In conjunction with this title, Russia is also a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, the G8, APEC and the SCO, and is a leading member of the Commonwealth of Independent States.

A European city in a country that lies over a vast part of Asia, Moscow holds one-tenth of all Russian residents . The city is located in the western region of Russia and is the capital and epicentre of political, economic, cultural, religious, financial, educational, and transportation happenings. "Muscovites" , as residents are known, tend to be cultured and worldly. This may be due to the many scientific, educational, and artistic institutions that are based here. An intoxicating mix of the exotic and the familiar, it is the largest city in Europe with the Moscow metropolitan area ranking among the largest urban areas in the world.

The city is situated on the banks of the Moskva River which flows through much of central Russia. Moscow is actually located in a basin for the Volga, Oka, Klyazma, and Moscow rivers. The city of Moscow is 994 sq. km with 49 bridges spanning the rivers and canals that criss-cross the city.

Forests are another part of Moscow's make-up. They coveer over a third of the territory in the region. A variety of animals like elk, wild boar, deer, foxes, weasels, lynx, martens, and birds make their home here.

Located in the UTC+3 time zone , Moscow has a humid continental climate. The summers tend to be warm and humid and the winters are long, cold, and hard. High temperatures occur during the warm months of June, July and August at about 23 °C (73 °F). Heat waves sometimes grip the city anywhere between May to September with temperatures spiking up to 30 °C (86 °F). Winters are harshly chilly with temperatures dropping to approximately 9 °C (15.8 °F). There is consistent snow cover for 3 to 5 months a year, usually from November to March.

Touring the Top 10 Moscow Metro Stations

By Claudia Looi 2 Comments

Komsomolskaya metro station

Komsomolskaya metro station looks like a museum. It has vaulted ceilings and baroque decor.

Hidden underground, in the heart of Moscow, are historical and architectural treasures of Russia. These are Soviet-era creations – the metro stations of Moscow.

Our guide Maria introduced these elaborate metro stations as “the palaces for the people.” Built between 1937 and 1955, each station holds its own history and stories. Stalin had the idea of building beautiful underground spaces that the masses could enjoy. They would look like museums, art centers, concert halls, palaces and churches. Each would have a different theme. None would be alike.

The two-hour private tour was with a former Intourist tour guide named Maria. Maria lived in Moscow all her life and through the communist era of 60s to 90s. She has been a tour guide for more than 30 years. Being in her 60s, she moved rather quickly for her age. We traveled and crammed with Maria and other Muscovites on the metro to visit 10 different metro stations.

To Maria, every street, metro and building told a story. I couldn’t keep up with her stories. I don’t remember most of what she said because I was just thrilled being in Moscow.   Added to that, she spilled out so many Russian words and names, which to one who can’t read Cyrillic, sounded so foreign and could be easily forgotten.

The metro tour was the first part of our all day tour of Moscow with Maria. Here are the stations we visited:

1. Komsomolskaya Metro Station  is the most beautiful of them all. Painted yellow and decorated with chandeliers, gold leaves and semi precious stones, the station looks like a stately museum. And possibly decorated like a palace. I saw Komsomolskaya first, before the rest of the stations upon arrival in Moscow by train from St. Petersburg.

2. Revolution Square Metro Station (Ploshchad Revolyutsii) has marble arches and 72 bronze sculptures designed by Alexey Dushkin. The marble arches are flanked by the bronze sculptures. If you look closely you will see passersby touching the bronze dog's nose. Legend has it that good luck comes to those who touch the dog's nose.

3. Arbatskaya Metro Station served as a shelter during the Soviet-era. It is one of the largest and the deepest metro stations in Moscow.

4. Biblioteka Imeni Lenina Metro Station was built in 1935 and named after the Russian State Library. It is located near the library and has a big mosaic portrait of Lenin and yellow ceramic tiles on the track walls.

5. Kievskaya Metro Station was one of the first to be completed in Moscow. Named after the capital city of Ukraine by Kiev-born, Nikita Khruschev, Stalin's successor.

7. Kurskaya Metro Station was one of the first few to be built in Moscow in 1938. It has ceiling panels and artwork showing Soviet leadership, Soviet lifestyle and political power. It has a dome with patriotic slogans decorated with red stars representing the Soviet's World War II Hall of Fame. Kurskaya Metro Station is a must-visit station in Moscow.

9. Belorusskaya Metro Station is named after the people of Belarus. In the picture below, there are statues of 3 members of the Partisan Resistance in Belarus during World War II. The statues were sculpted by Sergei Orlov, S. Rabinovich and I. Slonim.

SpaceX Starlink rocket launch Wednesday: Where to watch from Daytona, New Smyrna Beach, Oak Hill

Anyone up for another rocket launch? After two Monday launches , another  SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket  will potentially lift off on Wednesday afternoon, carrying Starlink internet satellites.

Weather permitting, the rocket launch could be visible in the sky above the Volusia County on the afternoon of Wednesday, May 8. Below is a calendar for upcoming rocket launches and how to watch the SpaceX rocket launch this week.

Here's what we know about the rocket launch missions, mentioned in  FLORIDA TODAY's rocket launch calendar  for the month, which is updated frequently. (Check that link often for rocket launch times and dates because they are routinely subject to change for a variety of reasons.)

Where can I see a rocket launch in Volusia County , Florida?

The nearby riverside park area is across South Atlantic Avenue with tennis courts, pickle ball courts, basketball and volleyball courts, playground, fishing pier and restrooms.
