The film is written and directed by Neil Burger (known for The Illusionist, Limitless , and the sci-fi action film Divergent ), and follows the journey of 30 young adults who are sent deep into outer space sometime in the distant future. Their mission is a classic standby of the sci-fi/space genre: Find a new home for humans to inhabit, because Earth is no longer suitable. Unfortunately, things go sour quickly for this crew—madness descends, and everyone reduces to their most primitive state.

Bad news for those who are interested in seeing the film but are continuing to use caution regarding the COVID-19 pandemic: Voyagers is not available on streaming at this time. Here’s what we know about the Voyagers streaming release.

WHERE TO WATCH VOYAGERS (2021):

Voyagers will be available to rent on premium video-on-demand on April 30, 2021. You will be able to rent the film on digital platforms like Apple TV, Prime Video, Google Play, YouTube, Vudu, and more.

What is Voyagers About?

Voyagers feels so astonishingly like a Young Adult novel and yet it is an original screenplay from director Neil Burger (Limitless, Divergent), though it borrows heavily from Lord of the Flies at that. Set in the distant future, we're aboard a colony ship with teenagers meant to be the future of Earth, or at least their grandchildren will be when they land on a new planet. They're kept on a controlled regiment of activity, nutrition, and mood-altering medication to keep their hormones in check until it's optimum breeding time (in vitro operations). After an accident, the teenagers are all alone on a ship with no adults, and they fear an alien might have snuck on board. This leads to different factions being created, one that says to follow the rules established by their adult authority figures, and the other that wants to stop taking their meds, stop rationing their supplies, and live as wild as they desire. This leads to extended bouts of PG-13 horniess; the movie practically feels like it's trying to dry hump you for stretches of time. Everything is very YA, from the character dynamics, to the major conflict without adults, to dealing with their hormones and the thrill of freedom. I found an unexpected parallel with this movie to the January 6 insurrection. The villain in this movie, played snidely by Fionn Whitehead (Dunkirk), is a darkly charismatic leader who appeals to the most selfish, self-destructive instincts of his peers, and even after definitive proof is given about his moral culpability, he's able to still gaslight his followers to accept his reality distortions and stirs them into an ignorant, violent mob. I found this character's eventual death to be extremely satisfying as a climax. Regardless, Voyagers isn't anything special. It's a lot of running down corridors, smokey side eyes and lip biting, and paranoid shouting about who is or isn't the alien. As a user so succinctly put it on Letterboxd, it's "Among Us but horny." Nate's Grade: C

The Lord of the Flies story (which is to say that children, even educated children, may tend towards brutal tribalism without adult supervision)...in a spaceship. The framing device, test tube babies out to colonize a new world, is different somewhat from the original but essentially the story's the same one. Stick with the book, or even one of the two films made from it, of which this one comes in a distant third.

Kung Fu Panda 4 — Jack Black’s latest animated film hit — is now available to stream online on select digital platforms.

Released in theaters on March 8, Kung Fu Panda 4 marks the first big screen adventure for Black’s martial arts expert Panda Bear Po since Kung Fu Panda 3 in 2016. The film franchise kicked off in 2008 with Kung Fu Panda and its first sequel hit theaters in 2011.

After a $57 million opening weekend in March, Kung Fu Panda 4’s box office has earned $166.4 million at the domestic box office to date. Combined with $251.3 million in ticket sales overseas, Kung Fu Panda 4 has a combined gross of $417.7 at the worldwide box office so far.

While a “free” streaming date for Kung Fu Panda 4 has not been set yet by Universal Pictures — provided you subscribe to the studio’s streaming service Peacock — the film is now available to stream on premium video on demand.

Currently, such streaming platforms as Prime Video , AppleTV+ and VUDU have the film available to rent for $19.99. If viewers don’t want to rent Kung Fu Panda 4 via PVOD — which generally gives renters 48 hours to stream the film once they start watching it — a digital copy of the film is available to purchase on the same platforms for $29.99.

At the beginning of the Kung Fu Panda saga, Po (voice of Jack Black ) finally accepts his destiny per ancient prophecy and becomes a Dragon Warrior and a master of Kung Fu.

Kung Fu Panda 4 received a warm reception from Rotten Tomatoes critics by earning a “fresh” rating of 72% based on 145 reviews. The film was embraced even more by viewers and earned an 86% positive audience score based on 1,000-plus verified ratings.

Kung Fu Panda movie received a franchise -high 87% percent “fresh” Rotten Tomatoes rating while Kung Fu Panda 2 scored an 86% percent rating and Kung Fu Panda 3 nabbed an 81% rating.

While Kung Fu Panda 4 has the lowest rating of all four films via Rotten Tomatoes critics, it surprisingly has the highest audience score in the franchise.

Each Thursday on Polygon we’ll have an open thread dedicated to helping you, our dear readers, find the perfect watch for this weekend. Looking for a sci-fi movie that will make you contemplate the wonders (or horrors) of the world? We’ve got you. Looking to brush up on world cinema? What about some comfort food? We’ve got you there, too.

From 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. EDT, I will be in the comments section down below answering your questions and fielding requests for what you should watch this weekend. A little bit about me, your curator for this week: I’m Pete Volk, our senior curation editor. I love movies of all stripes, but my main areas of interest are action movies (especially martial arts), classic Hollywood comedies (shout out to the GOAT, Ernst Lubitsch), and keeping up with new releases from around the world (I’ve tallied 155 2023 movies watched and 22 from 2024 so far).

Last week, I watched the new Wages of Fear (very disappointing after watching the original and Sorcerer the previous week), the Liam Neeson Marlowe movie, Michael Keaton’s indie thriller Knox Goes Away , and the upcoming movies I Saw the TV Glow and The Fall Guy (which I am excited to share my thoughts about when I can). I also caught up on Shōgun , X-Men ’97 , Game Changer , and Delicious in Dungeon , and watched some more Physical: 100 .

The sensational 1995 trial that saw O.J. Simpson on the stand for murdering his ex-wife and her friend is now on many people’s minds again following news of the infamous figure’s death on Thursday morning.

The former champion football running back-turned-actor, who was ultimately acquitted in the trial, died of cancer , his family confirmed. He was 76 and died Wednesday at his home in Las Vegas.

The ensuing trial became a media circus and Simpson was found not guilty for the two murders. But in 1997, Goldman’s family brought a civil suit against Simpson, and he was found liable for wrongful death and battery against Goldman and battery against Nicole Brown Simpson. He was ordered to pay $33.5 million in damages.

Much of the FX series focuses on the rival legal camps throughout the trial, including the squabbles within the so-called “Dream Team” that Simpson assembled to defend him, consisting of Robert Shapiro played by John Travolta, and Robert Kardashian, played by David Schwimmer. The prosecutors Marcia Clark and Christopher Darden are played by Sarah Paulson and Sterling K. Brown, respectively.

“Although ‘People v. O.J.’ commits a few minor fumbles,” he continued, “almost everyone here has acquitted themselves honorably, in roles that, for the most part, fit them like a glove.”
