Best of all tickets aren’t limited to the Discover Dundee tour – you can use them to travel further afield on all routes in the Xplore Dundee network, such as hoping on the 5 to venture around the picturesque Broughty Ferry!
The primary stop at Discovery Point on Riverside Drive, situated near the Railway Station & V&A, is where you’ll find the bus resting between journeys, one of our friendly, knowledgeable drivers will be on-hand to answer questions, sell tickets and help you find your way.
The buses are fully accessible, with a low-floor platform and space for a wheelchair or up to two unfolded buggies.

And Dundee really is Scotland’s sunniest city – averaging more than 1500 hours of bright sunshine every year. Of course, we do recognise the reality of Scottish weather from time to time, which is why (on such rare occasions…) the front section of the top deck is enclosed: so that you can escape the elements and still see the sights.
Make sure to grab a set of complimentary headphones (or feel free to plug in your own) so that you can learn and laugh with the audio commentary guide – complete with local voice-overs, quiz questions, fun sound effects and music to really immerse you in the experience.
We’re excited to tell the story of our city, which includes lots for locals and visitors alike to enjoy. Learn more about the history behind Dundee’s famous “ Three Js “, find out why Dundee rubs shoulders with cities like Berlin, Istanbul and Singapore, and so much more.

All you need to know as Dundee open-top bus tours return for 2024
Discover Dundee takes passengers to some of the city's biggest landmarks.
Dundee’s open-top bus tours are back for 2024 after two successful years.
Discover Dundee was launched by operator Xplore Dundee in spring 2022 with the aim of connecting visitors with some of the city’s best-known landmarks.
Relaunching in time for Easter Weekend, the red buses will leave from outside Discovery Point – taking passengers from the V&A all the way up to the Law, via several major attractions.
Here is all you need to know about the Dundee open-top bus tours.
When do the Dundee open-top bus tours start?
Services start on Friday March 29 and run until Sunday September 1 2024.
How may open-top buses run each day?
The buses run hourly seven days a week.
The first bus leaves Discovery Point at 10am and the last bus is at 5pm from the same stop.
One full loop lasts about 50 minutes, but passengers can hop on and hop off along the way.
What is the Discover Dundee route?
Stops include Discovery Point, Nethergate, Hawkhill, Albert Square, Dundee Law, The Howff, the Caird Hall, City Quay and V&A Dundee.
Some runs include a trip over the Tay Road Bridge, depending on weather.
Most of the stops provide a link-up with other Xplore Dundee services.
How much do tickets cost?
Ticket prices have risen from last year and now cost £12 for adults, £9 for concessions (NEC card-holders or students) and £6 for children aged 5-15.
A family ticket costs £26 and is valid for up to two adults and three children.
Anyone with an existing Xplore Dundee weekly or monthly ticket can pay the concession price.
Tickets include unlimited travel on other Xplore buses.
Passengers can buy tickets on the bus from the driver or using the Xplore Dundee app .
Why do the Dundee open-top buses not go to Broughty Ferry?
The Courier revealed earlier this year the reasons why Xplore Dundee does not run the open-top buses to Broughty Ferry.
The firm said there were “many cost and logistical challenges” with extending the route, including having to either reduce the number of journeys running each day, or having to buy more vehicles.

Dundee's Open Top Tour Bus Returns From Today
The Discover Dundee open top tour bus returns from today!
Hitting the Dundee streets for the third year running from today ( Friday 29 March ), the Discover Dundee tour bus operates until Sunday 1 September .
Riders can take in some of the best of Dundee landmarks such as:
RRS Discovery
V&A Dundee
DC Thomson Headquarters
McManus Galleries
Old Steeple
Tay Road Bridge
Tay Rail Bridge
The pick-up point for the Discover Dundee tour bus is at Discovery Point , situated next to the V&A Dundee, and runs from 10am to 5pm each day.
The tour bus is a hop-on, hop-off , so you can stop off at one location, explore around, and then get back on the tour bus to continue the tour.
If the weather is kind, you are also treated to a trip across the Tay Road Bridge, and back, offering you one of the most breathtaking views in Scotland - the Dundee skyline.
The tour bus is operated by Xplore Dundee, who are the main bus operators in the city.
Many have called on the firm to extend the tour to Broughty Ferry however they cite that journeys would have to be cut in order to accommodate such an extension, as well as more resources being used as a result.
The Discover Dundee tour bus has been a popular addition to the city, and as it enters its third year, there are more opportunities for locals, and visitors to the city, to discover the beautiful landmarks Dundee has to offer.
