Island Windjammers Cruise Schedule and Rates

Ahoy there!

Two frequently asked questions are "When is the best time to sail?" and "When should I reserve my cabin?"  We like to say that any time is a good time to sail! The weather in the Caribbean is warm and balmy year-round. Winter months are busier, because folks are trying to escape the cold back home.

Tropical storm season is June 1 through November 30. During the peak storm months of August through October, we move our ships to the southern Caribbean, where storms are less likely to occur. We also lower our rates!

Our ships are popular and have small capacities. We suggest that you reserve your space as soon as you decide on a preferred ship and sail date.

If you have questions, please call us Monday through Friday from 9:00 to 5:00 EST, or email us at  [email protected] .

We're standing by to assist, and look forward to seeing you on deck!

Best Caribbean Island Cruise: Sail Windjammer

Windjammer | Best Caribbean Cruise | Island Cruise Vacations

This is the Mandalay . A 236-foot schooner with a nose for Caribbean islands that few travelers can even identify. Mayreau. Union. Happy. Those islands. But here's the kicker: There's no real itinerary. On this seven-day Sail Windjammer cruise, Islands photographer Jon Whittle and editor Robert Stephens weren't sure where the captain would be going or what they were about to witness.

ISLAND WINDJAMMERS

Island Windjammers

Remember Windjammer Barefoot Cruises? Enormously popular in the ‘80s and ‘90s for its ultra-casual, rum-fueled Caribbean sailing adventures, the line folded in 2008, leaving thousands of loyal passengers sad and landlocked. Enter Island Windjammers.

Launched in 2009 by and for Windjammer Barefoot regulars when they got together to buy the 101-foot brigantine schooner Diamant , the line is a more mature version of its barefoot predecessor, operating truly intimate sailing adventures that tootle around the quieter corners of the Caribbean, far from the megaship mega-crowds.

Sure, there’s still plenty of rum punch and Red Stripes consumed, but the volume of the party has been turned way down to just the perfect level. (Island Windjammers is not to be confused with Sail Windjammer, a now defunct one-ship line that used to operate the 72-pax Mandalay , formerly of the Windjammer Barefoot Cruises fleet.)

Note: the 24-passenger 1960-built Sagitta is no longer a part of the Island Windjammers fleet.

Island Windjammers has started offering yacht charters in Europe; they did Croatia in 2023 and in 2024, it’s the Greek Isles aboard the 8-pax Lyra doing 10-night itineraries. More info HERE.

Island Windjammers Passenger Profile

Young-at-heart mostly American couples, singles and groups of friends 45+ who crave a carefree Caribbean getaway with zero pretension.

Summers and holiday weeks see occasional families with children; though the minimum age is 8 and it’s probably better for kids to be at least 10 or 12+.

Note : Island Windjammer’s ships are not accessible for people with restricted mobility, as staircases are steep, doorways narrow and door sills high.

When to Go?

All year around, though remember hurricane season in the Caribbean is officially June through November.

Activities & Entertainment

The day starts with the captain’s story time when he explains what’s happening for the day; the ships spend part of every day in port somewhere. The pace is easy going and free — while away the day swimming off the side of the ship (when conditions permit), take the ships’ kayaks for a spin nearby, try paddle boarding, or sip rum punch with new friends in an inflatable “floating island.”

There are a handful of shore excursions offered on most itineraries, but many passengers are content to find a good beach or wander around on their own. Sometimes lunch is served on a quiet beach somewhere, otherwise meals on are on board.

Occasionally passengers will arrange their own diving trips, and spend part of a day deep down under looking at the colorful fishies.

Happy hour is a big thing and drinks on deck are a favored pastime for many; you’re free to bring aboard your favorite spirits or mixers, though why bother when beer, wine, rum punch and soft drinks are on the house.

Evenings, the crew may start a bonfire on a nearby beach or organize a pub-crawl.

Theme cruises from time to time focus on rum (with a rum expert on board to educate and do tastings), solo cruisers (no kids or couples allowed!), pirates (with costume contests, pirate trivia and visits to spots where Pirates of the Caribbean was filmed), local food tasting, and yoga. Om shanti! 🙏🏼

Island Windjammers

Swing from the rigging, yipeee! * Photo: Island Windjammers

Meals are served at one very social open seating at a few tables, with local dishes to the tune of chicken roti, conch soup, pumpkin soup, callaloo and fresh fish as well as continental standards the likes of cheeseburgers and salads.

Fresh island fruits are part of the picture, from passion fruit to guava, star fruit, sour oranges and bananas.

Vegetarian and Gluten Free diets are catered for but not Kosher nor Vegan.

The whole point of an Island Windjammer cruise is to be outside on deck soaking up the sun and fresh Caribbean air, and enjoying the sailing ship experience and the quirkiness of the vessels — each has a very interesting background. — Heidi Sarna

The 10-passenger Diamant was built in 1978 in Taiwan and then later spent two decades sailing in the Galapagos Islands before Island Windjammers purchased her in 2009. She’s been the fleet favorite ever since.

She got a facelift in fall 2016 that reduced her capacity to 10 passengers in five cabins and created an overall spiffier look (“sophisticated not stuffy” the line’s website points out).

Of the two passenger decks, the top deck has both covered and open-air dining tables, plus a bar and deck chairs. The cabins are on the lower deck; there’s no elevator

Diamant sports four cabins with double beds below and single bunk above, and with full bathrooms with separate showers; and a fifth cabin is a suite with a queen bed, sitting area and a full bathroom.

Small as you’d expect on sailing ships, but charming, wood-paneled and the perfect cozy nests to catch up your beauty rest; otherwise, life is lived up on deck or on shore.

All cabins have 110v outlets, blow dryers, shampoo/soap, portholes and private bathrooms with separate shower stall.

A cozy and very nautical Diamant cabin. * Photo: Island Windjammers

The 26-passenger Vela was built in 1988 in Puget Sound, Washington, and deployed in the Marshall Islands as a floating medical clinic called Tole Mour , or “Gift of Life and Health.” Later she was used as an education vessel for students studying sailing, oceanography and marine biology.

In late 2014, Island Windjammers purchased the ship and rechristened her Vela , and a year later did major renovations, replacing the dormitory-style cabins with en suite single and double cabins; there’s also a new pilot house, large enclosed bar and dining saloon on the top deck.

Vela ’ s cabins include two tiny Cadet Cabins with raised small double beds (for one or two people) each with a private all-in-one bathroom (no separate shower stall).

There are a pair of Solo Cabins, one with a porthole and one without, that share one bathroom with a separate shower stall (each cabin can accommodate one or two people).

The two Standard Cabins are a bit larger with a double lower bed and a single bunk above, while six Deluxe Cabins have a larger double bed with single bunk above.

A pair of Compass Cabins at the aft of the ship has a queen size bed (and no upper bunk) and the one and only Topsail Cabin has a queen bed and larger bathroom.

Finally, the relatively spacious Owner’s Suite has a king size bed, mini-fridges, and a large bathroom — both cabin and bathroom have portholes.

All cabins have 110v outlets, blow dryers, shampoo/soap, portholes, and all but two solo rooms, cabins have private bathrooms with showers.

Along the Same Lines

Star Clippers is in the ballpark, though its passengers are more international and its ships are much larger, and the overall experience is more high-end. The Maine Windjammers — one of which is reviewed on QuirkyCruise.com, the J&E Riggin — have a similar vibe, though the Island Windjammers’ ships offer more of a “cruise” experience with more amenities.

Many years ago I enjoyed a Caribbean cruise with Windjammer Barefoot Cruises on the w/v Polynesia tall sailing ship.

At that time in the early 80’s it was a very casual, no frills ⛵ sailing adventure to some lovely islands in the Caribbean.

Windjammer Tall Ship Cruises

This photo certainly brought back fond memories of that 2 week adventure with a wonderful crew and the fun we had on board with staff and other passengers.

Although no longer in business, there are still tall ship sailing adventures with other companies, sailing the Caribbean Islands.

Taking one of these unique type of cruises is certainly worth checking into. Step out of the box and discover a Tall Ship – Windjammer style cruise.  I’m sure you will enjoy it as much as I did years ago!

Do windjammers still exist ayuh, you bet they do.

December 1, 2022

Since the 1930s when Windjammer cruises first started here in Maine, they’ve been growing in popularity. However, since one Caribbean company, Barefoot Windjammers, went out of business, there’s been confusion about which Windjammer companies are still operating. Well, in Maine alone there are 12 Windjammers operating out of Camden and Rockland.  And, there are Windjammer cruises offered in other areas of the country as well. You can take a Windjammer cruise in Maine or the Caribbean or even in Michigan on the Great Lakes. Here’s a list of Windjammer cruise opportunities in the United States and the Caribbean.

windjammer cruises in the caribbean

Windjammer Cruises in Maine

The Maine Windjammer Association is the largest fleet of tall ships in the Americas. These Windjammers offer multi-day, all-inclusive, sailing adventure cruises on the protected coastal waters of Maine. Cruises are based out of Camden and Rockland, Maine, and sail among the myriad islands off the Maine coast.

Another Maine Windjammer company is Maine Windjammer Cruises . This company sails out of Camden, Maine, and owns three vessels of varying sizes that offer overnight cruises similar to those of the Maine Windjammer Association.

The newest Windjammer business is Canvas and Pine Sailing which operates the Pilot cutter Hesper. The Hesper is a traditional sailboat that can take up to six guests on overnight cruises out of Camden, Maine.

If you’re in Maine but  just can’t get away for a multi-day sailing adventure, you can still sail away for a few hours on a daysailing schooner.  All along the coast of Maine there are traditional sailboats offering two-hour cruises. In Bar Harbor you’ll find Downeast Windjammer Cruise Lines which offers daysails on the schooner Margaret Todd . Towns such as Portland, Camden, Rockport, Rockland, Belfast, and Boothbay also have lots of short sailing options.

Windjammer cruises in other parts of New England

Unfortunately there currently aren’t other Windjamming options in New England. Until 2022 there were Windjammer cruises offered out of Connecticut aboard the Mystic Whaler.   Captain John and Pat Eginton, the boat’s former owners, ran trips for 38 years and in late 2021, after a rich 38 year career, the couple retired. The boat was sold to the Santa Barbara Maritime Museum where it will be used for education programs.

Windjammer cruises on the Great Lakes

The Traverse Tallship Company offers overnight Windjammer cruises on the Lake Michigan. It operates the Schooner Manitou, which is a 114 ft replica of an 1800’s “coasting” cargo schooner. Most of the summer the Manitou offers day sails but in September it offers three to five-night Windjammer cruises.  The schooner sails out of Traverse City, MI.

Windjammer cruises in the Caribbean

As you probably already know there are tons of sailing options around the Caribbean from chartering small private sailboats to two-hour daysails but in you’re looking to sail away on a Windjammer there are a few choices.

The Liberty Fleet offers daysails in Boston Harbor during the summer and offers overnight Windjammer cruises in the Bahamas in the winter. Their flagship is the Liberty Clipper , which is a 125 ft schooner that carries 24 guests. Their windjammer cruises start and end in Nassau and sail among the outer Bahamas islands such as Eleuthera and the Exumas.

Island Windjammers offers overnight Windjammer cruises from a variety of Caribbean islands. They run two sailing vessels – the smaller Diamant which takes 10 guests and the larger Vela that accommodates 26. Depending on when you sail, the cruise could leave from St. Lucia, St. Kitts, St. Maarten, Grenada, the British Virgin Islands or Turks and Caicos.

Another company that may turn up when you start looking around for Windjammer cruises is Windstar Cruises . They have a fleet of small cruise ships and large sailing yachts. Their cruises specialize in the luxury experience and even have computer operated sails to do the heavy lifting. These trips aren’t really Windjammer cruises, but if you’re wanting a luxury boating experience in the Caribbean, the Mediterranean, parts of Europe or even Oceania, check them out.

Now, if you’re still wondering what a windjammer even is, check out our blog: “What is a Windjammer, anyway?”

History of Windjammer Barefoot Cruises

Founding and early years.

Windjammer Barefoot Cruises was founded in 1947 by Captain Mike Burke and his wife, Ellen Burke. It all started with a single vessel, the Yankee, which Captain Mike renovated to offer unique barefoot cruising experiences to adventurous travelers. The concept of barefoot cruising involved a laid-back atmosphere, where passengers were encouraged to leave their shoes behind and immerse themselves in the freedom and relaxation of being at sea.

Unique Concept and Experiences

Windjammer Barefoot Cruises quickly gained a reputation for its unique concept and experiences. The company offered a range of itineraries, exploring off-the-beaten-path destinations in the Caribbean, Mediterranean, and Central America. The ships were known for their tall masts, billowing sails, and rustic charm. Passengers could participate in hoisting the sails, climbing the rigging, and even taking the helm under the guidance of the experienced crew. It was a truly immersive sailing experience unlike any other.

Popularity and Expansion

As the concept of barefoot cruising gained popularity, Windjammer Barefoot Cruises expanded its fleet. The company acquired additional vessels, including the Mandalay, Polynesia, and Legacy, to cater to the growing demand for unique cruising adventures. The company’s emphasis on creating a close-knit community on board, along with the opportunity to explore remote destinations, attracted a loyal following of passengers who returned year after year.

The Demise of Windjammer Barefoot Cruises

Financial troubles and bankruptcy.

Despite its initial success, Windjammer Barefoot Cruises faced financial troubles in the early 2000s. The rising costs of maintenance, fuel, and insurance, coupled with a decline in bookings after the September 11 attacks in 2001, put a strain on the company’s finances. In 2007, Windjammer Barefoot Cruises filed for bankruptcy, leaving passengers and employees uncertain about the future of their beloved cruising experiences.

Cancellation of Cruises

Following the bankruptcy filing, Windjammer Barefoot Cruises had to cancel all scheduled cruises, leaving many disappointed passengers in the lurch. The abrupt stoppage of operations was a blow not only to those who had eagerly awaited their vacations but also to the crew members who relied on the company for their livelihoods.

Sale and Auction of Ships

To address the financial woes, Windjammer Barefoot Cruises was forced to sell its ships. The vessels, once the heart and soul of the company’s unique cruising experiences, were put up for auction. While some ships found new owners who intended to repurpose them, others remained idle, awaiting their uncertain fate.

The Current Status of Windjammer Barefoot Cruises Ships

Ships that remained idle.

Several Windjammer Barefoot Cruises ships remained idle after the company’s demise. The sight of these once majestic vessels left in disrepair is a poignant reminder of the challenges faced by historic ships. Without proper maintenance and resources, these ships slowly deteriorate, losing their former glory.

Ships Sold and Repurposed

Some Windjammer Barefoot Cruises ships were fortunate enough to find new owners who saw the potential in these iconic vessels. While they may no longer sail under the Windjammer Barefoot Cruises banner, these ships have been repurposed for various purposes. Some have been transformed into luxury charter yachts or floating hotels, while others have been used for maritime training programs or research expeditions.

Possible Restoration Projects

Given the historical and cultural significance of Windjammer Barefoot Cruises ships, there have been discussions and proposals for potential restoration projects. The aim is to restore these iconic vessels to their former glory and revive the unique cruising experiences they once offered. However, these projects face numerous challenges, including financial constraints, legal and ownership issues, and the need for skilled craftsmen and restoration experts.

Challenges Faced by Windjammer Barefoot Cruises Ships

Maintenance and deterioration.

A major challenge faced by Windjammer Barefoot Cruises ships is the lack of proper maintenance and resources. Without regular upkeep, these vessels are susceptible to deterioration from the elements and neglect. The cost of preserving and restoring such historic ships is prohibitive, often requiring significant investments that may be difficult to secure.

Legal and Ownership Issues

Due to the bankruptcy and subsequent sale of Windjammer Barefoot Cruises ships, there are often legal and ownership issues surrounding their fate. Disputes over ownership, liens, and financial claims can further complicate efforts to restore or repurpose these vessels. Resolving these matters requires legal expertise and cooperation among all relevant parties.

Lack of Financial Resources

One of the most significant challenges faced by Windjammer Barefoot Cruises ships is the lack of financial resources. Restoration projects, ongoing maintenance, and operational costs are substantial, making it difficult to secure the necessary funding. Without a dedicated and sustainable source of financial support, the future of these ships remains uncertain.

The Fate of Individual Windjammer Barefoot Cruises Ships

Yankee clipper, current location and condition.

The Yankee Clipper, once a proud Windjammer Barefoot Cruises ship, is currently located in the Caribbean. Sadly, the vessel has experienced significant deterioration over the years due to neglect and exposure to the elements. Without proper maintenance, the ship’s wooden hull and intricate details are succumbing to the ravages of time.

Attempts at Restoration and Use

Efforts have been made to restore the Yankee Clipper to its former grandeur. However, the lack of financial resources and skilled craftsmen has hindered progress. Despite the challenges, there is hope that the Yankee Clipper may one day sail again, providing a glimpse into the rich history of Windjammer Barefoot Cruises.

Flying Cloud

The Flying Cloud, another iconic Windjammer Barefoot Cruises ship, is currently located in a shipyard in the United States. The vessel is in relatively better condition compared to some of its counterparts, thanks to occasional maintenance and restoration efforts. However, without consistent funding, the ship’s future remains uncertain.

Various restoration projects have been proposed for the Flying Cloud, aiming to transform the ship into a floating museum or a training vessel for aspiring sailors. While these ideas are promising, the challenges of securing funding and finding suitable caretakers to oversee the operations pose significant obstacles.

Significance in Windjammer Barefoot Cruises History

Legacy, a former Windjammer Barefoot Cruises ship, holds a special place in the company’s history. It was the last vessel to join the fleet before the company’s demise. Legacy served as a testament to the perseverance and dedication of Captain Mike and Ellen Burke, who worked tirelessly to provide unique cruising experiences despite the challenges faced by Windjammer Barefoot Cruises.

Current Status as a Museum Ship

Today, Legacy serves as a floating museum ship in St. Petersburg, Florida. It offers visitors a glimpse into the golden era of Windjammer Barefoot Cruises and the unique cruising experiences it offered. The ship stands as a tribute to the legacy of Captain Mike and Ellen Burke, reminding us of the pioneering spirit that defined Windjammer Barefoot Cruises.

Various Fates and Current Conditions of Remaining Ships

The remaining Windjammer Barefoot Cruises ships have had diverse fates and are in varying states of condition. Some ships have found new owners and are being actively maintained and operated, carrying on the tradition of providing unique sailing experiences. Others remain abandoned or left to deteriorate, awaiting a resolution to their uncertain future. Efforts are ongoing to explore potential restoration projects, but progress is slow due to the numerous challenges involved.

The Impact of Windjammer Barefoot Cruises’ Demise

Loss of a unique cruising experience.

With the demise of Windjammer Barefoot Cruises, the cruising world lost a truly unique and immersive experience. The concept of barefoot cruising, the camaraderie amongst passengers and crew, and the opportunity to explore off-the-beaten-path destinations created memories that can never be replicated. The void left by Windjammer Barefoot Cruises’ absence is keenly felt by those who were fortunate enough to experience it.

Effect on Employees and Passengers

The closure of Windjammer Barefoot Cruises had a profound effect on both employees and passengers. Crew members, many of whom had dedicated years of their lives to the company, faced uncertain futures and significant financial strain. Passengers who had booked cruises or were loyal to the Windjammer Barefoot Cruises experience were left disappointed, their plans abruptly canceled.

Efforts to Fill the Void

In the wake of Windjammer Barefoot Cruises’ demise, various organizations and companies have tried to fill the void left by the unique cruising experiences it offered. While no one has been able to replicate the exact atmosphere and charm of Windjammer Barefoot Cruises, there are alternative sailing experiences that aim to capture a similar spirit of adventure, community, and immersion in nature.

As we reflect on the fate of Windjammer Barefoot Cruises ships, it is clear that their story speaks to the challenges faced by historic vessels and the efforts required to preserve their legacy. While time may have taken its toll on these once proud ships, there remains hope that their unique spirit will endure, whether through restoration projects, repurposing efforts, or the memories passed down for future generations to appreciate.

If Boston is best seen from the water, then by far the best time to see it is during a sunset cruise on a classic Boston tall ship!

Read what guests are saying about their sailing experience with Liberty Fleet in Boston!

The view of the harbor was amazing and the experience of the tall ship was one of a kind. The crew was friendly, knowledgeable, and always available to help. We also loved the relaxing pace of the sail.

It was just wonderful. My husband got to help raise the two large sails. I really enjoyed that we actually sailed around the harbor. The engine was only used for leaving and returning to the wharf. The crew was awesome.

We danced with strangers, sang, laughed and had a wonderful time! I don't plan on having another bachelorette party, but if I do, I'd do this again! 6/5 stars!

We loved seeing Boston this way. The sunset was beautiful and the crew was friendly. My only regret is that we didn’t do the longer cruise.

What's Free On Utopia Of The Seas?

Discover what utopia of the seas℠ offers for free restaurants, attractions and things to do..

By Amanda Mesa | Published on April 19, 2024

Free Restaurants on Utopia of the Seas℠

D elicious dining options play a big role in every Utopia of the Seas ℠ sailing. The ship offers a mouthwatering selection of free restaurants onboard, serving up tantalizing cuisine from around the world. There are 21 total restaurants onboard, including both complimentary and specialty dining options . If you're looking to taste your way across both at a discount, consider purchasing a specialty dining package onboard or ahead of your sailing via the Cruise Planner app. These packages allow you to enjoy the ship's specialty restaurants at special prices. If you'd rather stick to free dining on Utopia of the Seas ℠ for a more "all-inclusive" cruise experience, you'll still have all of these wonderful options.

Main Dining Room

In the main dining room onboard Utopia of the Seas ℠ , y ou can look forward to a different three-course menu every night of your sailing, spotlighting delicious flavors that will transport you from Jamaica to Jaipur, India and beyond. Picture dishes like buttery escargot, succulent Maine lobster tail, tender filet mignon and even classic spaghetti Bolognese. If you're traveling with little ones, don't worry — the main dining room also offers a menu curated especially for kids. The best part? Dining here is complimentary, with very few exceptions — such as an extra charge for lobster on non-formal nights.

Boardwalk Dog House

Another complimentary returning favorite you'll find on Utopia of the Seas ℠ is Boardwalk Dog House. Located on Deck 6 in the ship's alfresco Boardwalk® neighborhood, this fast-casual hot dog spot serves up a variety of artisanal brats inspired by foodie capitals. Whether you're craving a classic foot-long loaded with your favorite fixings, a Chicago-style dog that's been "dragged through the garden" (as they say in the Windy City), a spicy, smoky frank with some kick or a chicken sausage flavored with juicy apples, you're bound to find something that hits the spot here during every awesome pool day at sea.

Sorrento's Pizza

Another Royal Caribbean classic, this guest-favorite free restaurant has spent years fine-tuning its recipes for crave-worthy pies. They range from classic offerings like spicy pepperoni and decadent cheese to creative specialty pizzas loaded with everything from smoky barbecue chicken, juicy pineapple and fresh garden veggies. Sorrento's is also one of the restaurants onboard that's open latest, making it a perfect pit stop to refuel after a wee-hours whirl on the dance floor. You'll find it on Deck 5 along the bustling Royal Promenade.

The Spare Tire℠

One of the most anticipated free restaurants onboard Utopia of the Seas ℠ is The Spare Tire℠. This brand-new food truck is located on Deck 15 just steps away from the pool. The menu focuses on easy-to-eat snacks and handheld faves like hearty sandwiches and shareable flatbreads. The smoked pulled pork sandwich is at the top of my must-try list, followed by the cheeseburger flatbread drizzled with secret sauce. If you have a sweet tooth (like me), make sure you save room for The Spare Tire's daily rotating selection of desserts. Come back for seconds and thirds throughout your pool day — every bite is included in your cruise fare.

Café Promenade And Park Café

Need your caffeine fix? Drop by Café Promenade on Deck 5 in the morning, afternoon or at night for brewed coffee, lattes and cappuccinos paired with tasty pastries and other quick-and-easy bites. It's open 24 hours, so you can drop by anytime your cravings strike. For more of an old-school diner vibe, head to Park Café in the ship's Central Park®️ neighborhood on Deck 8, where you'll find a great breakfast spread; delicious soups, salads and sandwiches at lunch; and crave-worthy tapas served alfresco in the evenings. Both restaurants are complimentary.

Windjammer Marketplace is one of the best free restaurants on Utopia of the Seas ℠ if you're looking to keep things casual. Open for breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner, this buffet-style restaurant features plenty of seating at all hours of the day and stations that offer a jaw-dropping selection of rotating international culinary delights. You'll find some tried-and-true favorites that are available each day of your sailing, but you could also dine on something different during every visit. If you're traveling with kids, rest assured little ones will find plenty of yummy options to satisfy any palate, all included in your cruise fare. You don't need reservations to dine here — simply pop on by and enjoy the feast.

El Loco Fresh®

For me, nothing beats a delicious taco tray or cheesy burrito during a pool day — especially when it's complimentary. It's why I end up enjoying lunch at El Loco Fresh®, a fast-casual Tex-Mex eatery, during most of my sea days. You'll find all kinds of shareable options here, including a nacho tray that's perfect for enjoying with friends or family. The salsa and toppings bar is also wild.

Solarium Bistro

Located steps from the adults-only Solarium (my go-to pool spot for relaxing and catching up on my reading), Solarium Bistro is a complimentary dining option that's truly tranquil. The menu here usually highlights fresh, healthy Mediterranean dishes, including Greek salads, pitas paired with refreshing tzatziki, tender lamb chops and decadent Greek donuts called loukoumades .

I have a major sweet tooth, especially when it comes to ice cream — so I'm absolutely psyched about Sprinkles. This favorite afternoon treat spot has its biggest footprint yet onboard Utopia of the Seas ℠. Guests can indulge in any kind of ice cream creation loaded up with toppings — for free, of course.

Free Things To Do Onboard Utopia Of The Seas

Utopia of the Seas Pool Food Truck

Ultimate Abyss℠

Ultimate Abyss ℠ first made waves for being the longest dry slide at sea. The one onboard Utopia of the Seas ℠ takes things even further. It spans 10 stories and stretches 43 feet longer than any other before it. And that's not all — the ship's Ultimate Abyss ℠  also has zoom booster rollers and see-through racing windows that make the ride even more thrilling than ever. Admission is free, so you can ride as many times as you like.

The Perfect Storm℠

Everyone loves a good waterslide  — and Utopia of the Seas ℠ has three pulse-pounding waterslides to choose from. Together, they're known as The Perfect Storm℠, a notorious trio of slides with plenty of exhilarating twists, turns and drops. There's Typhoon℠ and Cyclone℠, two racer slides that will have your heart pounding from the moment you start moving. And then there's Supercell℠, a massive champagne bowl that spins you around and around before funneling you into the pool down below. All three are free for cruise guests.

Flowrider®️ Surf Simulator

This one's a classic — and easily one of the best free things to do onboard Utopia of the Seas ℠. This surf simulator funnels over 30,000 gallons of rushing water to create perfect swells all day, every day. You don't need to be a pro to carve the surf, though — try your best to keep from wiping out or do what I do and ride boogie-style on your belly.

Rock-Climbing Walls

Harnessing up and making the climb is personally my favorite way to get in a fun workout at the start of every sea day, and the views at the summit of Utopia of the Seas ℠' twin rock-climbing walls are well worth the effort. Because this activity is free of charge, I like to come back throughout the day to stretch my arms and legs — especially around sunset, when the light is golden and the ocean water shimmers like gilded crystal.

Free Nightlife Onboard Utopia Of The Seas℠

Mother and Daughter Enjoying Fun Water Activities Perfect Storm on Wonder of the Seas Royal Caribbean

Spotlight℠ Karaoke

I love a great karaoke spot, and Spotlight℠ Karaoke does not disappoint. With a massive selection of songs to choose from, you can belt it out like Beyoncé, croon like Taylor Swift or invite the audience to join you in a raucous rendition of Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'." Signing up to sing on the main stage is free, and you can also reserve a private room for a fee.

For late-night dancing, it doesn't get better than Boleros. This Latin-themed club hosts a live band playing cumbia, merengue, samba and salsa — and the mojitos and caipirinhas are off the charts. Admission to the club is free, but drinks are a la carte. Here's a pro tip: purchase a specialty beverage package ahead of your sailing for unlimited drinks included in a flat rate.

You can jam out to spectacular cover bands that range from classic rock to reggae at Music Hall, a huge concert venue that packs plenty of energy every single night of your sailing. Hit the dance floor and bust a move or just vibe from one of the venue's comfy lounge tables. Like Boleros, admission is free but drinks are a la carte.

No cruise is complete without a night of belly laughs at the onboard comedy club. On Utopia of the Seas ℠ , that club is called The Attic, and admission is free. This adults-only hotspot can hold a candle to some of the best clubs in Manhattan and Chicago. It hosts a changing lineup of stand-up comedians specializing in everything from sketch comedy to slapstick.

Whatever kind of entertainment you seek,  Utopia of the Seas ℠   makes it easy to enjoy an all-inclusive getaway that goes long on adrenaline-pumping thrills, delicious flavors and opportunities to make memories.
