The 10 Best Yoga Retreats in Bali

yoga trip in bali

Stunningly beautiful and shockingly affordable, Bali is dwarfed in size by Indonesia's larger islands like Sumatra and Java but is actually the most-visited island in the country. While many travelers are drawn to the island's wildlife, beaches, and laid-back pace of life, hundreds of thousands are drawn by something else: yoga.

Why Bali, and specifically the town of Ubud, became a global meeting point for yoga enthusiasts is anyone's guess, though the nearly perfect weather, low cost of living, and majority Hindu population could be contributing factors. Today, there are thousands of permanent yoga retreats in the country, which usually include lodging, meals, and daily yoga classes. Some retreats are quick three-day commitments you could add on to a longer trip, while some retreats can last for weeks, culminating in advanced yoga teaching certifications.

If you're planning a yoga retreat in Bali it can be hard to know where to look, especially if you're new to yoga. Fortunately, the list below covers the best yoga retreats in Bali and should help make the decision-making process a bit easier.

ULU Yoga Aerial Yoga Retreat

Aerial yoga may sound frightening, especially if you have a fear of heights, but it's actually one of the healthiest types of yoga for building flexibility and protecting sore joints. Aerial yogis use a silk hammock to assist in positions and movement, and you can study it in depth in ULU Yoga's six-night aerial yoga retreat . It includes five days of yoga, pre-class and in-person instruction, dorm lodging, and a vegan breakfast each morning. You can also choose your own lodging nearby if you'd rather stay in more lux digs. Courses are in Ubud or Uluwatu.

Udara Bali Yoga, Detox & Spa Retreat

Courtesy of Udara Bali

Interested in a less structured yoga retreat in Bali? Then consider a retreat at Udara Bali , which offers a build-your-own retreat option. Every day, you'll have unlimited access to yoga ranging from Vinyasa flow to water yoga, as well as a daily 60-minute massage, full meals plus a tea service at the on-site organic cafe, and access to a spa with a steam room, jacuzzi, and plunge pools. You can do as little or as much yoga as you'd like in the ocean-view shala, making it an excellent retreat for anyone not quite ready to commit to full-time study.

Om Ham Retreat and Resort One-Day Yoga Retreat

Short on time? Head to Ubud, the unofficial yoga capital of Bali, for a one-day retreat at Omham Retreat and Resort. The retreat was founded by Master Yogi Ketut Arsana, an Ubud native who pioneered Kundalini Tantra yoga. Like in Kundalini yoga, classes here focus on awakening your inner energy with the goal of becoming more enlightened, or at least learning to move your focus beyond your physical being. There's a heavy focus on movement and emotion. The one-day retreat includes the chance to try Kundalini Tantra yoga classes, plus a healthy lunch and access to the hotel pools.

Blue Karma Yoga and Culinary Retreat

Ubud may be the center of Bali's yoga culture, but it's not on the beach. So if you want your wellness with a side of sun and sand try the four-day food and yoga retreat at Blue Karma Wellness in Seminyak, a beach town near Bali's international airport. Retreats include yoga classes, a food tour in Ubud, a cooking class, classes on how to make herbal remedies, a high-end sampling dinner, and more. You also get complimentary shuttle service to the beach and accommodation in a hip Balinese suite. Blue Karma also runs meditation, silent, and Ayurvedic retreats.

Samyama Meditation Center Yoga and Meditation Retreat

Courtesy of Samyama Meditation Center

Three days may not seem like a long time for a yoga retreat, but it can be if you're really putting in the effort to work on self-development. That's the goal with the three-day meditation and yoga retreat at Samyama Meditation Center. In addition to yoga classes and guided meditation, you'll attend classes to learn about meditation: the history of it, techniques to be successful at it, and an intro to the science of meditation. You don't need any meditation experience, and the retreat also includes two vegan meals a day plus accommodations. To take it a step further, consider booking the dark meditation retreat, where you'll eat, sleep, practice, and meditate silently in the dark for three days.

Pelan Pelan Bali Surf and Yoga Retreat

Scuba divers and snorkelers usually prefer Bali's calm east coast, but on the west coast, reliable waves and warm water draw surfers from around the world. If you want to spend your time in Bali focused on more than just yoga, sign up for the seven-day surf and yoga retreat at Pelan Pelan Bali in Canggu. The package includes lodging, five surf classes and a board rental, daily breakfast and lunch, yoga and meditation classes, trips to local spiritual sites, and three Balinese massages. All levels are welcome, even if you've never set foot on a surfboard.

Bliss Sanctuary for Women Yoga Retreat

Courtesy of Bliss Sanctuary for Women

If a trip to Bali just won't be complete without soaking in an outdoor spa tub filled with flowers, consider the yoga retreat at Bliss Sanctuary , a women-only wellness retreat. They offer dozens of packages, but the yoga retreat specifically includes unlimited yoga and spa treatments, sightseeing trips, a personal scheduler/yoga consultant, and lodging in a suite at one of their three stunning properties across the island (oh, and that flower bath, of course.)

Balitrees Retreat Traditional Yoga Homestay

Courtesy of Balitrees Retreats

To experience what a yoga retreat in Bali was like before it became popular with travelers, stay at Balitrees, a very traditional homestay. While there, you'll practice Yoga Watukaru, a style developed in Bali in the 600s A.D. Yoga Watukaru has a strong focus on chakra, mediation, and flowing between poses, rather than holding them. Balitrees is in the tiny town of Sesandan and all retreats include lodging at the homestay, traditional Balinese meals in a group setting, unlimited Watukaru yoga, and community-run cultural activities like tours to waterfalls and visits to a butterfly garden. It's also very affordable, as far as Bali yoga retreats go.

Santhika Retreat Center Couples' Retreat

Courtesy of Santhika Retreat Center

Traveling with a partner? Book Santhika Retreat Center's seven-day " Art to be Together" yoga retreat and take advantage of a schedule meant to bring you closer physically and spiritually. The retreat includes lodging, couples yoga classes, a spa session for two, all meals, an extensive Balinese massage course, and couples' excursions like a private night snorkel and swim with dolphins. You can even take part in a Balinese wedding ceremony while there if you're so inclined.

The Yoga Barn Ubud Yoga Retreats

Courtesy of the Yoga Barn

You can't have a list of the best yoga retreats in Bali without including The Yoga Barn, possibly the most famous yoga studio in Ubud. The studio's retreat packages are very straightforward—choose a three-, five-, or seven-night retreat. Each comes with unlimited yoga, lodging in a shared or private room, and complimentary breakfast. Because the yoga barn sits in the center of Ubud, you'll be near restaurants and cafes, hikes through rice fields, and popular sights like the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary and Tegenungan Waterfall.

Relaxation And Rejuvenation In The Island Of The Gods

— Go with the flow.

by Georgie Darling

The unspoilt black sand beaches of the north, the vibrant surf culture of the south and the rejuvenating rice fields weaving between them in the centre: Bali’s most contrasting neighbourhoods may have strong differences, but there’s one thing they all share a love for: yoga retreats.

The Island of the Gods knows what’s what in the world of eco-chic, sustainable yoga resorts. From the Canggu yoga retreats combining vinyasa flows with cooking classes and surf trips to the Uluwatu yoga retreats, punctuated with sunrise sessions overlooking the spectacular Indian Ocean — Bali is home to them all.

Or, head to the famed yoga capital, Ubud, for an unparalleled experience with backdrops of hazy mountains and rainforests for miles. Bali’s most healing properties come to life here. Tranquil natural surroundings and terracotta temples breathe wellness into every person who takes a second to stop and take in the magic.

This holistic haven is paradise on earth for beginners right through to advanced yogis. Immerse yourself in personalised flows, palm-tree whispers and the gentle hospitality of Indonesia’s most healing island.

If you’re looking to book yoga retreats anywhere in the world, Bali should be your very first thought.

The 13 best yoga retreats in Bali

Bagus jati:  best 3-day yoga retreat in bali.

bagus jati Luxa Terra

Nestled in the rainforests of Ubud sits Bagus Jati: a fully immersive yoga retreat combining everything from unlimited classes and fire ceremonies to complement your three days. Set to the blissfully cooling climates that Ubud guarantees, Bagus Jati is akin to something from a fairytale. Three days in this yoga retreat has the potential to heal ailments, bring out new levels of relaxation and escape from everyday life.

Practise yoga in the mornings and afternoons, take a deep breath through daily meditation sessions and eat organic meals in the eco-restaurant. One of the best things about Bagus Jati’s yoga retreat is how customisable the programme is, which means if you’re craving one specific spa treatment or need some guidance for a particular flow, it can all be catered for your needs.

Sukhavati: Best 5-day yoga retreat in Bali

sukhavati jati Luxa Terra

A sustainable jungle retreat with five-star service and amenities, Sukhavati’s Luxury Ayurveda Program is a fusion of serenity and peace with massages, meditation and organic Ayurvedic vegetarian cuisine. It’s a chance to switch off from the pressures of everyday life and completely relax into five days of healing. Awaken your senses and ignite your chakras through a series of yoga classes that are invigorating, challenging and reconnecting all at the same time.

Sukhavati’s yoga retreats offer more than just yoga. A premium experience with all bases covered, it’s a true journey through mind, body and spirit. Lectures and workshops on Ayurveda, Yoga and Vedic science alongside health consultations with an in-resident Ayurvedic doctor offer a natural and gentle approach to resetting any kind of internal frustrations. Detoxification therapies and treatments, methods to balance the bio-energies of the body and a complete cleanse inside and out ensure you’re energised by the time you leave.

Prana Veda: Best week-long yoga retreat in Bali

prana veda jati Luxa Terra

Some call Prana Veda “paradise on earth” and it’s easy to understand why. En route to the resort you’ll pass traditional Balinese villages, beautiful rice fields, volcano landscapes and coconut palm tree forests. And while some of Bali might sit firmly on the beaten path nowadays, Prana Veda exists dreamily on Bali’s north coast, with only lava sand beaches, endless ocean views and the sound of the waves crashing as a backdrop.

For those looking for a true hidden oasis, Prana Veda offers one of Bali’s best traditional yoga retreats. Start each day with either a Yoga, Meditation or Pranayama session before relaxing with multiple massage treatments. In the afternoon there’s Yin Yoga or water, breath or dance-based meditations. Healing and cleansing waters paired with a silence day ensures plenty of time to detox both mentally and physically.

Floating Leaf Eco-Retreat: Best luxury yoga retreat in Bali

floating leaf eco retreat Luxa Terra

You’ll feel like you’re the floating leaf by the time you’ve finished the Eco Luxury Retreat: a fine-tuned week that’s perfect for fully immersing yourself into Indonesian culture. Floating Leaf’s huge Yoga Sanctuary is home to a variety of yoga styles and practitioners with everything from mats and blocks to inversion chairs, slings and post-practise relaxation hammocks.

If you’re an early bird or a night owl, there are daily sunrise and sunset yoga classes set on the black volcanic sand beaches. As well as offering unlimited yoga, you can also experience a sacred guided purification ritual at Tempak Siring Water Temple and cleansing evening led by a Balinese High Priest.

Fivelements: Best 10-day yoga retreat in Bali

fivelements Luxa Terra

Fivelements has made a name for itself for its signature detoxes, which promise to leave you feeling rejuvenated almost as soon as you’ve walked through its palm-adorned doors. Each jam-packed day uses ancient Balinese philosophy through yoga, energy sessions, healing massages and plant-based meals.

A healing cocoon nestled on the banks of the Ayung River, Fivelements is a retreat in every sense of the word, allowing each guest to feel centred, relaxed and harmonious through each personalised activity. A Balinese Fire Blessing Ritual, Rice field village walk and Holy Water Spring journey marry together a luxurious retreat that fully encapsulates the Island of the Gods’ finest properties.

Desa Seni: Best customisable yoga retreat in Bali

desa seni Luxa Terra

Desa Seni School of Yoga is a collective in the heart of Canggu offering fully customisable yoga retreats tailored exactly to your needs. Fusing yoga, movement, meditation and healing experiences with traditional Balinese accommodation surrounded by lush tropical gardens, Desa Seni is the place to go for a personal journey through deeper exploration. Group classes and private classes ensure the time and space to practise yoga however you feel most comfortable. The drop in nature of the schedule means there’s no pressure to set alarms, allowing for a true sense of relaxation. Come along for five days, seven days or simply pay-as-you-go until you’ve had your fill.

Start each day with a nourishing breakfast before dipping your toe into any number of different scheduled classes. When you’re not moving through sequences, take part in a healing experience, surrender to a full body massage or simply take in the vibrant green rice fields surrounding the centre.

Udara Bali: Best yoga retreat in Canggu, Bali

udara bali Luxa Terra

Canggu is often regarded as Bali’s hotspot for partying, surfing or shopping. But it’s also home to some of the island’s most famed yoga retreats. Udara Bali sets the scene with four awe-inspiring yoga shalas overlooking the ocean and ancient temples.

Unlimited yoga classes means you can spend as much time as you like practising Hatha, Aerial, Vinyasa, Yin, Healing Pranayama or Water Yoga. Each retreat package also comes with access to weekly events like a Cacao Ceremony, Sound Healing Journey or Herbal Workshop. And the nature of Udara makes it easy to have as sociable or reclusive a week as you would like. If you’re looking for the former, make use of the twice-weekly included excursions to beautiful temples, rice fields or waterfalls.

Elemental Alchemy: Best yoga retreat in Ubud, Bali

elemental alchemy Luxa Terra

Ubud and yoga go hand-in-hand. You’ll struggle to find another area in Bali with such a high density of yoga studios and other mindful practises. Among the best in Ubud is Somah’s Elemental Alchemy retreat. This six-day experience guides you through dynamic meditations, movement and yoga for a true re-awakening with a heightened sense of inner peace. Elemental Alchemy does things a little differently, dedicating each day to a different element (Earth, Water, Fire, Air, Ether) with a focal point of journeying through your senses.

Pairing the highest calibre of teachers and facilities with Yoga Nidra and Ayurveda, you’ll refresh your knowledge through traditional Balinese blessings and a agni hotra (fire) ceremony. The stunning AmrtaSiddhi resort is tucked away on the edges of Ubud’s Monkey Forest and is the accommodation of choice, although there are other budget-conscious options nearby. Herb walks, philosophical discussions and an Ayurvedic cookery class ensure all senses are clarified during this retreat.

Anantara: Best yoga retreat in Uluwatu, Bali

anantara Luxa Terra

Uluwatu offers a fresh and raw perspective for anyone exploring Bali, thanks to its breathtaking sunsets, jagged cliff tops and hidden walkways. It’s also a hotspot for yoga, with retreats emphasising all of the above features for a unique setting that’s a world away from the traditional Ubud setup. Anantara steps things up a notch with a three-tiered wellness programme centred around yoga with the added benefits of detoxing and working out at the same time.

The Balance Wellness Programme comes in two lengths: one day or three days. Choose the latter for a true invitation into serenity based on a spectacular cliffside setting. Start each morning with sunrise yoga looking out to the crashing waves while nourishing your body with raw juices and organic food. A large range of holistic practices, energising fitness and rejuvenating spa therapies ensure top-to-toe wellness in only 72 hours.

Pelan Pelan: Best varied yoga retreat in Bali

pelan pelan Luxa Terra

‘Pelan Pelan’ translates to ‘take it easy’ and that’s exactly what you’ll be doing as soon as you’ve checked in for this retreat. Pelan is the yoga retreat for those looking to combine Bali’s best features in a short period of time. Over the course of five days, throw yourself into Balinese culture with yoga sessions, meditation, traditional massage and cooking classes. Pelan’s location — central enough that Canggu is only a 10-minute drive away but peaceful enough for a jet black starry sky every night — means added extras like surf lessons, cooking classes and day trips can all easily be arranged.

When you’re tired after a long day of yoga or the additional activities, relax back with spa treatments and homemade meals. Pelan attracts a slightly different crowd than your typical yoga retreat: those looking to switch off and reach inner peace, while ensuring that adventure is still within easy reach.

Escape Haven: Best women-only yoga retreat in Bali

escape haven Luxa Terra

“Unlimited” is the keyword when it comes to Escape Haven’s award-winning yoga retreat. Unlimited yoga, unlimited spa access and unlimited sightseeing means you’ll tick everything off your Bali bucket list by the end of the week. This women-only yoga retreat is a safe haven of luxury, with extensive grounds, two flowing rivers and a custom built yoga shala. And when it comes to the yoga, all bases are covered.

Escape Haven offers more yoga than any other retreat, promising a deeply healing, life-changing and transformation journey surrounded by other women. Even if you’re new to the practice, the options are endless thanks to the retreat’s three highly skilled yoga teachers. Bliss seekers, health enthusiasts and existing yoga practitioners can thrive together through a variety of Yoga Nidra, Yoga Dance and Yoga Fundamentals alongside more traditional styles. This transformative yoga retreat experience will help you to learn unlimited amounts about yoga and wellbeing.

revivo bali Luxa Terra

The beauty of Revivo’s retreats is their mix and match nature : combining any number of techniques to ensure peace and harmony for everyone from families to couples to professionals looking to switch off. A focus on curated wellness treatments with an entirely vegan menu helps you to energise or slow down depending on your desires.

Pineapple House’s 7-day Surf and Yoga retreat prides itself on covering all bases at a low cost: its inspiring yoga teachers will help you to practice with confidence while also experiencing some of Canggu’s other most famed elements.

U.S. passport holders will need to show a passport valid for six months  after  the arrival date in Bali, a return ticket and at least two empty stamp pages in your passport.  If you do not have the validity or appropriate number of blank pages, please apply for a new passport in plenty of time for your trip. As of June 2015, U.S. passport holders are exempt from needing to get a visa as long as the travel is strictly for tourism purposes and the stay is less than 30 days.  Visa regulations have been hit or miss for travelers and the ultimate decision for the need to obtain a visa-on-arrival is up to the immigration officer when you deplane.  It is recommended that all travelers carry enough U.S. cash to pay for a visa should the officer deem it necessary.  The current visa-on-demand cost is $35US, however we’d recommend carrying $50 in case of a price change.  Please check the  State Department  for up to date information. Citizens of all other countries should check with their government for entry requirements.

Make all travel arrangements into Denpasar (DPS).  Please be aware that you will need to depart the US one to two days before the start of the yoga retreat, depending on the flight schedule you chose.

Bali utilizes the standard British plug (two flat blades and one flat grounding blade) and the European plug (two round pins) and is at 230V.  Adapters  will be necessary if you are taking any electrical items.

While we hope you’ll try and unplug… yes, there is wifi access on both of our properties.

Because of its location, Bali tends to have fairly stable weather with the ‘wet’ season occurring between October and April and the ‘dry’ season between May and September.  It is generally always hot with temperatures hovering in the mid to high 80s and up.

Yes!  Of course.  Once you’re booked you’ll receive an email with important logistical information and a link to your invoice.  You can pay any amount at any time on the invoice; you can use it as a payment plan or leave it alone until the final due date. Remember that deposits are non-refundable so, on all trips, we recommend purchasing travel insurance.

Years ago Melissa found herself in a rut struggling with anxiety, insomnia and chronic neck pain. Going through the motions of life frustrated and unhappy, one day she asked herself “is this as good as it gets?” The universe seemed to respond quickly as she soon found herself in a yoga class breathing, twisting and turning without a clue as to what she was doing. After that yoga class, the light bulb went off as she walked out blissful and hopeful! Melissa had no idea that she had just taken her first steps onto a new path that would completely reshape her life. Melissa was hooked, and that feeling has been bringing her back to her mat every day! Melissa began practicing yoga and meditation regularly and could see that her life was changing, she was sleeping better, was less anxious and her neck pain disappeared. In a short amount of time, she was feeling fantastic and truly enjoying life.

Yoga in Bali

One of the Best

Yoga Location

In the world.

“The word “yoga” essentially means, “that which brings you to reality”. Literally, it means “union. Union means it brings you to the ultimate reality, where individual manifestations of life are surface bubbles in the process of creation.” – Sadhguru

Yoga in the modern world has become a popular practice to reduce stress, increase health in general and loose those extra unwanted pounds, and many different styles have evolved catering to the growing number of Yogis and Yoginis.

Over the years, Bali has become a preferred destination in the region if not in the world for Yoga lovers who come here to either enjoy the incredible variety of classes during their holidays or even sign up for one of the many Yoga Retreats or Teacher’s Trainings. It’s the texture of spirituality, as much as the physical beauty of the island, that makes Bali an ideal sanctuary for learning and practicing yoga and to meet likeminded people from all over the world.

Yoga in Bali – Top Reasons

  • Wide Variety of Yoga Styles
  • Very Affordable Prices
  • Many Yoga Schools & Studios
  • International Yogi Community with likeminded people
  • Plenty of beautiful Retreat Locations
  • Famous Yoga and Spirituality festivals
  • Largest Yoga communities are in Ubud, Canggu, Uluwatu
  • Bali attracts highly skilled and popular teachers

Handpicked Yoga Studios

Good to know when coming to bali to do yoga.

After your professionally taught yoga class we would highly recommended to catch eye contact with your fellow yogis and stay open to continue this experience further. It is common to hang our in one of the dozen stylish, tasty vegetarian, vegan or raw food restaurants after class.

To deepen your yoga practice and take it to the next level one could consider a body treatment after class. Massages are available with unlimited options. You could connect with nature while being massaged in the middle of the rice fields or dive into the magic of the ocean during a relaxing session on a cliff with a breath-taking view. The traditional Balinese Massage is recommended just as much as a Swedish or Deep Tissue Massage.

Bali has the most tasty yoga buffet one could possibly wish for. From Acro yoga to Areal, Ashtanga, Bikram, Flow, Hatha, Iyengar, SUP Yoga, Vinyasa, Yin Yoga, Sumits and many more, you will definitely be spoiled for choice! Whether you are still shopping around for your favorite style of yoga or you know your preferred taste, you will definitely not be limited in the choices and the level of experienced classes. Bali has it all!

If you need a more peaceful and withdrawn yoga experience, there are yoga opportunities where you are surrounded by silence and your focus is completely on feeling your inner being and a sense of deep peace. You can leave your class and not have to interact with anyone. Sidemen and Batukaru are areas in Bai, where life is slow and nature is abundant.

For the Surfer visiting Bali, you will be supported by a Yoga Surf community and yoga can become part of the journey too. Start your day with Sun Salutations at Sunrise at the beach and end the day with a Yin Yoga practice in the evening. Everything is possible.

Many of the Yoga schools provide retreats for several days offering 1-2 yoga classes daily. If you want to deepen your yoga practice or are inspired to teach yoga you can find many top quality Teacher Trainings which are recognized by the Yoga Alliance.

There are many yoga retreats on offer in Bali. One is spoilt for taste which one to choose. Almost all offer days away from your daily routine; 2 yoga classes a day, some tourist attractions, healthy vibrant meals and meditation. The highlight is usually the location; your entire being will get energized as your eyes take in the pure lush green living nature. The more magical and breath-taking retreats take place in Ubud or further up north, like Pemutaran.

Ubud – new age pilgrims, from diverse backgrounds, come seeking asylum from a hasty fast track life, to retreat within the verdant landscape of Bali, to connect with a greater power.

If you are staying in the cultural heart of Bali, with its tranquil and magnificent vistas, you really want to stop by one of the main Yoga Centers . All offer classes for any level, from complete baby beginner to acrobatic advanced.

Lately Canggu and Uluwatu have made it on the list of “Bali Yoga Destinations”. Several beautiful and professionally managed yoga centers with qualified teachers have opened, offering a large variety of classes and styles.

Surf and yoga compliment each other perfectly. Practicing yoga can enhance your flexibility and soothe sore muscles, while also improving your balance – all important skills for surfing. Why Bali is the Perfect Surf and Yoga Destination

With some of the best surf in the world, a unique spiritual culture and beautiful tropical scenery Bali is one of the most popular places for both surfing and yoga. More reasons why Bali is the perfect surf and yoga retreat destination include:

Relaxing atmosphere – Bali is known for its laid-back lifestyle and amazing natural beauty, with stunning sunsets, beautiful beaches, lush tropical forests and verdant rice fields. This creates a perfect setting to relax and unwind while participating in yoga and surfing activities.

Warm tropical weather – Bali’s year round warm tropical weather means the island is full of stunning natural scenery, it’s always warm enough to practice yoga outside and you can spend ages in the water without needing a wet suit.

Variety of activities – In addition to surf lessons, yoga classes and meditation sessions Bali retreats also offer a variety of activities that will immerse you in the unique culture and scenery, from visiting temples and rice terraces to hiking up volcanoes and swimming in waterfalls. Best Places for a Surf and Yoga Holiday in Bali

There are plenty of areas in Bali that offer great surf spots and world class yoga retreats. Here is a selection of some of the best:

Canggu: Canggu is a popular destination for both surf and yoga, known for its laid-back atmosphere and hipster vibe. The surf spots like Batu Bolong and Echo Beach offer waves suitable for all levels of surfers. The scene is complemented by numerous yoga studios offering a variety of styles. The scenery in Canggu is a mix of lush rice fields and trendy cafes.

Kuta, Legian and Seminyak: Kuta is where Bali’s tourism boom initially started. Its long sandy beach offers small, fun waves perfect for beginners and stunning sunsets. You’ll find numerous surf schools along the beach. Yoga is not as prevalent here as in other areas, but there are still several studios around. Kuta is bustling with activity and nightlife and great for budget travellers. Kuta, Legian and Seminyak kind of blend into one these days and becomes increasingly upmarket in the Seminyak area.

Uluwatu: Uluwatu is famous for its world-class surf breaks, stunning cliff-top views and scenic temple. The waves here are more suited for intermediate and expert surfers but Padang Padang offers beginner friendly breaks. Yoga classes are often held in beautiful locations overlooking the ocean. The scenery is dramatic with cliffs, temples, and the expansive Indian Ocean.

Nusa Lembongan: This small island off the southeast coast of Bali is a peaceful escape from the crowds. The surf breaks like Shipwrecks and Playgrounds are suitable for various skill levels. Yoga is becoming increasingly popular on the island, with several retreats and studios available. The scenery is characterized by clear blue waters, white sandy beaches, and seaweed farms. You can also explore the neighbouring islands of Nusa Ceningan and Nusa Penida.

Ubud: No mention of yoga in Bali is complete without highlighting Ubud. This magical inland village is home to some of the most beautiful rice terraces in Bali as well as dozens of fantastic yoga studios. Located about an hour drive from the ocean it’s not the best base if you want to get a lot of surf and beach time in, but some retreats may still offer surf lessons along with transport to and from the beach.

Tips For Choosing a Surf and Yoga Retreat in Bali

When it comes to choosing the right surf and yoga retreat in Bali, there are some things you should bear in mind:

Location – Make sure that the location of your Bali retreat is suitable for the activities you want to do. For example, if you are looking for a surfing holiday make sure that the location offers good waves suitable for your level and that it’s close enough to the beach and other amenities.

Accommodation – Consider the level of accommodation provided at your chosen retreat. Do they offer luxury packages with all-inclusive spa treatments or more basic options? This will help ensure that your stay meets your expectations.

Program – Some yoga and surf retreats in Bali offer special programs which may include meditation classes, cooking classes, or group activities such as trips to nearby attractions. Make sure to find out what kind of program is offered before booking a retreat so that you can be sure it’s right for you.

Price – Make sure to compare prices between different retreats and decide what works best for your budget. Often, more affordable retreats can still provide a great experience so don’t be afraid to shop around!

Tips for Planning Your Bali Surf and Yoga Vacation

As you can see Bali is a must visit destination for all surfers and yogis. Here’s some essential Bali travel tips to help you plan your island adventure.

For more information read our complete Bali Travel Guide which has everything you need to know to plan and make the most of your trip.

The Best Time to Visit Bali for Surf and Yoga

When planning your trip to Bali for a yoga and surf retreat, you should consider the two main seasons on the island: the dry season (April to September) and the rainy season (October to March).

The dry season is peak tourist season and the best time of year for outdoor activities such as beach days, sunbathing, hikes, and dives. It’s also ideal for beginner surfers because of more consistent beginner friendly waves. July and August are usually the busiest months in terms of tourism.

The wet season offers cooler temperatures and lush greenery. This is an excellent time to visit if you want cheaper prices at spas or luxury yoga resorts, as well as escaping from crowds and it doesn’t rain all day. The bigger waves are more suitable for experienced surfers during this period but you’ll still find breaks suitable for beginners.

How to get to Bali and get around

Bali has one of the world’s most conveniently located international airports – Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) which is just a short journey from the beaches and yoga hubs across Bali.

Flights are available direct from Australia, while travelers coming from Europe or North America will usually have to change flights in Asian hubs like Singapore, Kuala Lumpur or Bangkok. If you choose to do this, why not break the journey and take some time to explore these fascinating cities?

Most nationalities can take advantage of Visa on Arrival at the airport, costing USD 35 which can be paid with card or cash in major currencies. This allows up to 30 days stay in Bali but if you fall in love with it you can extend by another 30 days by visiting Denpasar immigration office.

When you arrive in Bali the quickest and most convenient way to get to the retreat is by taxi. Your retreat may include airport transfers or be able to arrange it for you so check with the organiser. If not, be wary of touts at the airport offering too-good-to-be-true deals.

It’s much safer to use an online taxi app like Grab or one of the official taxi companies that offer fixed rate coupons for each journey type so you know exactly how much it is going to cost before getting in the car.

What to Pack for a Yoga and Surf Vacation in Bali

To make sure you have everything you need for your surf and yoga retreat in Bali, it’s important to know what to pack. Essential items include sunscreen, a hat, swimwear and comfortable shoes for walking around.

Retreats will normally provide all the surfing and yoga equipment like surf boards, yoga mats and wet suits (although the water is so warm you shouldn’t need it) You might want to bring along a rash guard as well as appropriate footwear – either sandals or booties depending on the conditions.

Ensure you have good travel insurance covering all the activities you plan to do on a surf and yoga retreat in Bali, including yoga, surfing, hiking and water sports.

Finally, always check the reviews on BookYogaRetreats before you book any yoga, surf or wellness retreat in Bali.

I hope this article has helped you find your ideal surf and yoga retreat in Bali. Check out our other articles for more tips on how to choose a yoga retreat , a guide to the best yoga mats for travel , and also our quick and easy yoga retreat packing list to help you prepare for your vacation.

Conclusion: Our Favorite Bali Surf and Yoga Retreat

Whether you’re a seasoned yogi, an avid surfer, or someone simply looking to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life, a yoga and surf retreat in Bali offers the perfect blend of adventure and relaxation.

If you still can’t decide on a retreat, our top pick is Pelan Pelan in Canggu . Their retreats strike the perfect balance between adventure and relaxation. We are proud that, for more than a decade, millions like you have trusted our award-winning recommendations by people who deeply understand what makes certain places and communities so special.

Increasingly we believe the world needs more meaningful, real-life connections between curious travellers keen to explore the world in a more responsible way. That is why we have intensively curated a collection of premium small-group trips as an invitation to meet and connect with new, like-minded people for once-in-a-lifetime experiences in three categories: Culture Trips, Rail Trips and Private Trips. Our Trips are suitable for both solo travelers, couples and friends who want to explore the world together.

Culture Trips are deeply immersive 5 to 16 days itineraries, that combine authentic local experiences, exciting activities and 4-5* accommodation to look forward to at the end of each day. Our Rail Trips are our most planet-friendly itineraries that invite you to take the scenic route, relax whilst getting under the skin of a destination. Our Private Trips are fully tailored itineraries, curated by our Travel Experts specifically for you, your friends or your family.

We know that many of you worry about the environmental impact of travel and are looking for ways of expanding horizons in ways that do minimal harm - and may even bring benefits. We are committed to go as far as possible in curating our trips with care for the planet. That is why all of our trips are flightless in destination, fully carbon offset - and we have ambitious plans to be net zero in the very near future.

About this trip

Our 50-hour YTT Yin Yoga will provide you with the required knowledge of philosophy, history, and anatomy to understand the principles of this holistic practice. You will experience in your body and your mind the benefits of the asanas and their variations with two classes a day. What is Yin Yoga?

Yin yoga is slow-paced yoga that blends the principles of yoga with the principles of traditional Chinese medicine. Its practice helps to soothe, release and restore the body and mind. Each asana is held for several minutes which gives the opportunity to work more deeply on the body in full awareness and to find stillness and peace.

Yin Yoga being a modern practice, continues to evolve which allows for creativity. It is also the perfect yoga to complement a more dynamic yoga practice and find the balance between yin and yang.

Disambut Sandiaga Uno, Guru Yoga Terkenal India Sadhguru Wisata Spiritual ke Bali

yoga trip in bali
