Tennessee may be best known for its whiskey, but in recent years, the craft beer scene has been giving spirits a run for their money. From small microbreweries to lively beer gardens and taprooms that have become destinations all their own, Nashville has welcomed a wide variety of beer brands across town in recent years. Each one offers something unique, keeps the city’s vibrant pop-up scene strong, and, more importantly, reinforces that Nashville’s beer scene is certainly not one to sleep on.

East Nashville Beer Works

East Nashville Beer Works is a neighborhood gem; it boasts a spacious beer garden where it can host pop-up yoga classes or classic movie screenings. This impressively sized patio is dog- and kid-friendly, too — so much so, in fact, that its jungle gym rivals most local parks (and is probably sanitized more consistently). Inside, the taproom hosts live music night and you can find a variety of great beers including seasonal flavors, creative IPAs, and stouts. If you get hungry, it has pizza, appetizers, and salads on its menu.

Living Waters Brewing

Living Waters is Nashville’s little engine that could. Along with its well-crafted beers, it also features an impressive coffee program. And while it may not be remotely close to being the largest brewery in East Nashville, that hasn’t hindered its ability to make great beer. Brewer-owners Ryan McCay and Thomas Becker create some wonderfully crafted beers that beer geeks across the country dream about getting their hands on. Their taproom is a warm, welcoming space with a small outdoor patio. They always strive to support local businesses, offering pastries and bites curated from local businesses daily while supplies last.

Southern Grist Brewing Company - East Nashville Taproom

Smack in the heart of East Nashville, Southern Grist is known for its ambitiously creative beer selection — one glance at its menu and you’ll realize that it doesn’t put any traditional beer constraints on its creations, adding personality through ingredients to every style of beer it produces. From exotic fruits to pickles and marshmallows, Southern Grist fearlessly brews with anything you can think of. If you’re on the move, Southern Grist sells to-go beers in cans and crowlers, but it also has a super comfy, family-friendly lounge and a pet-friendly porch if you’d rather sit and sip through its beer list. Southern Grist opened its second location in the Nations with more seating, a larger bar and patio, plus a fast-casual version of the original’s signature restaurant, Lauter.

Bearded Iris Brewing (Germantown)

Local cool kid brewery Bearded Iris is putting out some of the most sought-after, hop-forward beers in Nashville. Located in Germantown, its original taproom is also its production facility. Although Bearded Iris has successfully dipped its toes in other styles of beer — such as fruited kettle sours, lagers, and pastry stouts — it’s crushing the hop game by cranking out a steady flow of dry-hopped, imperial, and double IPAs. A second location can be found in the Sylvan Supply development in The Nations neighborhood, which houses a much smaller brew system for R&D. Although you can still get some of the popular offerings found at the Germantown location, you’ll also find different, small-batch experimental brews here.

Monday Night Preservation Co.

Monday Night Brewing opened Monday Night Preservation Co. in Germantown in 2021, bringing the Atlanta-based brews to an enormous tap room. Expect to find long picnic-style tables in the transformed Neuhoff development, which was formerly a meatpacking district in the early 1900s. The brewery breathes new life into the area, offering 24 craft beers on draft plus cocktails, wine, and a handful of snacks. Check out the weekly events calendar before your visit for trivia and bingo nights.

Barrique Brewing and Blending

Barrique is the most niche kid on the block. Specializing in wild ales fermented in oak barrels, brewer-owner Joel Stickrod started in 2018 with his first beer ready for release in 2019. Barrique moved into the space that was formerly home to Little Harpeth Brewing; its taproom is lined with barrels and wooden accents. Although it specializes in wild ales, Barrique also puts out ales and lagers for beer palates that prefer simpler brews. It hosts a rotating cast of pop-ups, so your food is guaranteed to be as satisfying as the beer.

Blackstone Brewing Co

Blackstone Brewing launched in 1994, making it one of Nashville’s first and oldest craft breweries. The West End taproom sits within the Blackstone Brewing production facility, which is the same facility that also brews for Nashville Brewing Company. This state-of-the-art brewery offers tours and has a converted bus that serves as a permanent food truck. The B Stone bus has a solid brewery bites menu that includes a selection of burgers, artichoke dip, and fish and chips.

Harding House Brewing Co.

Located in The Nations, Harding House Brewing Co. is a brewery and taproom with a major focus on its community and brewing beers with local and seasonal ingredients — a farm to pint concept, if you will. Its menu has recurring selections, as well as seasonal offerings and some experimental sprinkled in the mix. Harding House has a good blend of beer styles, but its saisons are not to be missed. The taproom is cozy for a weeknight pint, but the roll-up garage doors are ready for when it’s party time.

Fat Bottom Brewing Co.

Fat Bottom essentially swapped a small, 5000-square-foot facility in East Nashville for a state-of-the-art 33,000-square-foot home in the Nations. The new facility sits on an acre and a half plot of land which afforded Fat Bottom space to not only expand the production floor and taproom but also build a giant event space and The Hop Yard, its outdoor beer garden. The brewery also operates a full-service kitchen that’s open for lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch.

Czann's Brewing Company

Formerly a SoBro staple, Czann’s up and moved its operation to The Nations where it’s taken over a space that once accommodated a church. Just a hop, skip, and jump away from a handful of other breweries, Czann’s is another addition to what seems to be becoming Nashville’s brewing district. Unlike his younger peers, founder Ken Rebman is not chasing the latest beer trend or looking to pump his beer full of fruit puree. Ken is focused on making solid, clean beer and marching to the beat of his own drum. The Czann’s taproom is a tall, open space with ample TVs, but if you want to take in the fresh Nashville air, its patio is also open for seating.

brewery tours nashville tn

Yee-Haw Brewing Co.

Yee-Haw Brewing sits right in the heart of SoBro — equal parts adults playground, gift shop, and brewery. With roots in Johnson City, Tennessee, Yee-Haw plays it pretty safe with its beer selection, so don’t expect anything over-the-top to overwhelm your palate. Its magic, though, is in its vast options of year-round beers — there’s something for everyone. If beer’s not enough for you, it offers moonshine tastings, a large beer garden, and a giant TV screen for sporting events. If you get hungry, treat yourself to some refreshingly creative tacos from White Duck Taco Shop, which is located inside of the venue.

Tennessee Brew Works

What started as a hobby among friends has evolved into a brewery with a two-story taproom and a full-service kitchen that offers lunch and dinner. If you’re privy to watching brewers do their job, you’re in luck. The production floor is on full display behind large windows in the seating area. If you want to do more than ogle at the brewers, stop in on a Saturday and enjoy a guided tour to learn about their eco-friendly brewing methods. It also has live music throughout the week and one of the best burgers in the city.

Jackalope Brewing Company - The Ranch

Jackalope Brewing opened this space, affectionately known as the Ranch, as a production facility with a taproom in 2018. (Its original location, the Den, closed in early 2021.) Aside from offering consistently solid year-round beers, it supplements its lineup with tasty seasonal selections and fun, creative beers with its Shapeshifter Series. Throughout the week, various food trucks rotate in and out of the venue, and its staff is some of the friendliest and most knowledgeable around town.

Diskin Cider

Nashville’s first craft cidery, Diskin Cider, opened in Wedgewood-Houston back in 2018 thanks to Pacific Northwest transplant Adam Diskin and his pal, Todd Evans. After studying under an English cider master, the pair opened a warehouse-style cidery that boasts plenty of seating both inside and out, along with a menu of craft brews made with fresh-pressed apples. If you’re wary of ciders, fear not, a team of experts stands ready to help you find your new favorite. The cidery hosts regular events like drag brunch, trivia, and comedy shows, plus pregame parties (and transportation) for Nashville SC games.

TailGate Brewery

Sitting on eight lush acres about 15 minutes from downtown Nashville is one of three Tailgate Brewing locations. The West Nashville location is its headquarters and where its massive 50-barrel production facility is situated along with their smaller eight-barrel pilot system. Inside, it has a craft pizza kitchen and an ice cream shop operated by Sweet & Three . Outside, you’ll find another bar and rows of picnic tables where you can sit and experience one of the loveliest sunsets views a brewery could offer.

Nashville Brewery Guide – Breweries Near Me

Here at City Brew Tours , our goal is to be the go-to source of brewing knowledge in our 10 cities and beyond. Our beer-expert team has crafted a list of favorite breweries in Nashville to inspire a craft beer adventure of your own!

brewery tours nashville tn

Famous for entertaining visitors with its iconic distilleries and music scene, Nashville, Tennessee has grown to be the ultimate destination for craft beer lovers. From small-batch southern-style beer to historic Belgian ales, this city has limitless flavors and aromas to choose from. Get to experience the best brewing systems and beer in Music City by mapping your very own beer trail with City Brew Tours.

Tennessee Brew Works

Tennessee Brew Works founder Garr Schwartz and close friend, Christian Spears, joined forces in 2013 to bring their homebrewed beer to the public. Their expansive two-story taproom is one of the largest in the state and can accommodate groups of all sizes. You can feel good about picking up a pint and enjoying a meal here because Tennessee Brew Works is known for being eco-friendly and well-rooted in the community.

Yazoo Brewing Co.

Ask any local for a brewery recommendation, and they will point you in the direction of Yazoo Brewing Company. Nashville’s largest and oldest craft brewery was founded in 2003 by brewmaster Linus Hall and the taproom is open seven days a week.

This 40-barrel brewhouse offers award-winning flagship beers, like the iconic Pale Yale, and seasonal concoctions, like the malty Fall Lager. Craving something wild or sour? They also have a barrel-aging program called “Embrace the Funk”, featuring rotating specials that are taproom-exclusive.  Whether you sign up for one of their tours or grab a bite from featured food trucks, Yazoo is sure to complete your Nashville craft beer experience.

Jackalope Brewing Company

This Nashville brewery has a mascot as creative as its beer. They’re known across the city for their unique brewing processes, producing unfiltered beers with fruity flavors like strawberry, raspberry, apricot, and mango. In addition to touring customers and pouring beer, Jackalope also hosts weekly live music, trivia, food trucks. “The Den” is their original brewhouse near Yazoo Brewing Co. in the Gulch neighborhood, and in 2018 they opened their second location, “The Ranch”, in Wedgewood-Houston.

Bearded Iris Brewing

Bearded Iris Brewing was the first brewery to open in Germantown in 2016. You can take a seat under the ornate chandelier in their taproom or hang out on their pet-friendly patio. This brewery also allows children and has a bring-your-own food arrangement.

Since the folks at Bearded Iris are great at what they do, the tap list is very specialized featuring hop-focused IPAs, DIPAs, and pale ales. Try their most popular brew, “Homestyle”, a hazy golden New England IPA with notes of mango and pineapple.

TailGate Beer

TailGate Brewery has a variety of offerings across its three Nashville locations. Their 7300 Charlotte Pike address serves as their 50 barrel brewing headquarters, Music Row houses TailGate Cider Company, and East Nashville is where you’ll find their wild fermentation program. You’re going to need some food to soak up those delicious suds, and TailGate has you covered with a full menu, complete with salads, sandwiches, and build-your-own pizza.

East Nashville Beer Works

East Nashville Beerworks’s brewing space and taproom are located in a refurbished warehouse. This business is committed to the community and its taproom and beer garden serves as a kid and pet-friendly gathering place for family and friends. Both the beer and food menus offer a lot to choose from. From their Citra IPA to the Honey Blonde Ale, this brewery has a wide variety of styles to please any palate.

Southern Grist Brewing Company

Southern Grist was founded by three friends, Kevin Antoon, Jared Welch, and Jamie Lee, in 2016. This microbrewery seats about 40 people in their East Nashville taproom, and has a second location in The Nations.

Despite its size, there is always something for everyone to try with their 15-beer tap list and local food offerings. Try one of their delicious fruited sour options, like Blackberry Cobbler or Boil the Ocean, and take some to-go in a refillable 32oz. crowler!

The Black Abbey Brewing Company

Head to southern Nashville for a taste of traditional Belgian brewing at Black Abbey Brewing Company. This brewery’s theme is modeled after Martin Luther’s values of community and hard work. Their unique taproom, called Fellowship Hall, is modeled after a monastery with several long, rustic tables.

On their Belgian-focused tap list, you’ll find The Forty Four, a porter infused with coffee, barrel-aged collaboration brews with Jameson Irish Whiskey, and more! The Black Abbey offers a simple menu, a rotating food truck schedule, and the opportunity to bring your own food.

There's plenty in downtown Nashville to keep you busy for a while. But when you've had your fill of honky tonks, urban flair and hot chicken and want to venture further afield, it makes sense to head out for a day trip. And you'll find an incredible variety of day-trip-worthy destinations within easy driving distance of Nashville. You'll find everything from wineries and distilleries to gorgeous hiking spots, Civil War battlefields and small towns just waiting to be explored.

The countryside around Nashville features rolling hills and scenic vistas. To the east, you'll encounter stunning mountains. To the north is horse racing territory; distilleries and tobacco fields pepper the landscape. In nooks and crannies in the immediate area surrounding Nashville, you'll find vineyards, creeks, state parks and nature reserves aplenty. No matter which way you venture, you'll be met by a relaxing, scenic drive, friendly folks and something well worth your time to experience.

Here are some of the best things to do near Nashville, TN. Day trips spent heading to these spots are time well spent.

Jack Daniel's Distillery

  • Distance from Nashville: 79 miles / 1 hour 21 minutes driving

Jack Daniel's Distillery is the oldest registered distillery in the United States. Founded in 1863, they've had plenty of time to perfect the art and science of their iconic No. 7 whiskey. Head to the visitor center for a tasting and to find out how their whiskey is made. When you're done, take time to explore Lynchburg, TN, home to plenty of great restaurants and other attractions like the U.S. Space and Rocket Center , before heading back to Nashville. Don't feel like driving? Book a guided tour that departs from Nashville for a Jack Daniel's Distillery experience.

Oakland's Mansion

  • Distance from Nashville: 35 miles / 37 minutes driving

The Oaklands Mansion is a well-preserved Civil War-era plantation home that has been beautifully preserved and restored to the beauty it possessed more than a century ago. Occupied by the Maney family during and after the Civil War, the home itself was built in the early 1850s; it features an eye-catching Italianate design, gorgeous gardens and an arboretum that you can stroll through when you visit. It's a lovely glimpse into the area's culture and history and a peaceful respite from the city. Grab a lunch at The Chop House or another of Murfreesboro's eateries while you're in the area.

  • Distance from Nashville: 29 miles / 32 minutes driving

Arrington Vineyards is just south of Nashville. Occupying 95 acres, this gorgeous family-run vineyard is a great place to go for a tasting or a food-and-wine pairing. If you time your visit right, you'll also be able to enjoy live music and a full meal while you're there. You could also grab a bottle of wine, some cheese and snacks and head to a solitary stretch of the vineyard for a hillside picnic.

  • Distance from Nashville: 22 miles / 25 minutes driving

Franklin, TN has a lot going for it. This cute mountain town is chock-full of historic homes, Civil War history, intimate eateries serving up locally distilled whiskey and microbrews and friendly, chill vibes. The downtown stretch is lined with art galleries, boutiques and vintage/antique shops. Take in the sights at your own pace with a Franklin hop-on, hop-off sightseeing tour , or get a taste of the Tennessee backroads on a guided backcountry side-by-side ride .

brewery tours nashville tn

  • Distance from Nashville: 48 miles / 54 minutes driving

Clarksville is a little farther than Franklin, but it packs its own distinctive vibe that's well worth a visit. You'll find a downtown lined with restaurants, boutique shops and galleries. In the little town's downtown, you'll find a three-story brewery called Strawberry Alley Ale Works , a buzzing location with industrial-chic decor, a compelling craft beer selection and an all-day menu. Clarksville's location on the Cumberland River has enshrined it in history; it's also just a hop away from Dunbar Cave State Park, a great spot to stop for an hour or two.

  • Distance from Nashville: 94 miles / 1 hour 30 minutes driving

Head north into Kentucky's tobacco fields and you'll find more than just thoroughbreds and tobacco sheds. Located just outside of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Mammoth Cave National Park is home to the world's longest cave system. Take a guided tour, explore the areas that are open to the public and stop by the visitor's center and gift shop before you leave. Mammoth Cave is located on Kentucky's Scenic Route 70 , which traverses a gorgeous slice of the country--well worth a little more driving, if you feel like exploring more after visiting the caves.

brewery tours nashville tn

  • Distance from Nashville: 85 miles / 1 hour 36 minutes driving

Rock Island State Park is best visited during the hot summer months when you're in the mood for some clean, cool water to jump in. This state park is home to a gorgeous cascade, miles of walking/hiking trails and beachside access to the river so you can jump right in. Dogs are also welcome at this state park, making it a great Nashville day trip choice if you have canine companions along for the adventure. When it comes to fun things to do near Nashville, Rock Island State Park will always be near the top of the list.

  • Distance from Nashville: As long as you want it to be. The Parkway begins in Nashville and continues for 444 miles.

The Natchez Trace Parkwa y is one of the nation's most peaceful parkways. Devoid of billboards and strip malls, you'll find curve after curve of gorgeous countryside, with plenty of history and beautiful stops along the way. This is a popular route for bikers, so keep your eyes open for motorcycles as you go, but don't hesitate to stop at the many points of interest and eateries as you go. You can also take the Natchez Trace down to Leiper's Fork for a memorable Tennessee day.

brewery tours nashville tn

Leiper's Fork, TN

  • Distance from Nashville: 26 miles / 38 minutes (longer if you take the Natchez Trace)

If you take the leisurely, wandering Natchez Trace Parkway from Nashville to Leiper's Fork, the drive will take you a little over an hour--but the scenery makes the voyage well worth the trip. The drive is shorter if you take Old Hillsboro Road. The rural village of Leiper's Fork isn't far from Franklin, TN, but it's worthy of a day trip of its own, particularly if you're looking for a lovely place to grab lunch or dinner and enjoy a little sightseeing before heading back to Nashville. Leiper's Fork offers lots of antique shopping, a few excellent lunch spots and the Leiper's Fork Distillery, which offers guided tours.

brewery tours nashville tn

  • Distance from Nashville: 134 miles / 2 hours 30 minutes driving

Located outside of Chattanooga, TN, Rock City Gardens offers an experience that encapsulates some of the area's most breathtaking views. Rock City is admittedly a longer day trip from Nashville; to make the most of your time in Rock City, you'd want to get an early start. But the view from the top--where you can see seven states on a clear day--is worth the trip. The entire experience will be a memorable one as the trails are family-friendly and the woodlands, botanical gardens and on-site cafes and gift shops can keep you enchanted for hours. You could also take a ride up the Incline Railway, a glass-topped funicular, or venture underground to see Ruby Falls, a subterranean waterfall.

brewery tours nashville tn

  • Distance from Nashville: 65 miles / 1 hour 5 minutes driving

Bowling Green is just about an hour north of Nashville, but it has a very distinctive personality. Stop by the National Corvette Museum , take a boat tour through the Lost River Cave, or stop at the Historic RailPark and Train Museum before grabbing a bite to eat; Tony's of Bowling Green is a solid choice.

brewery tours nashville tn

  • Distance from Nashville: 83 miles / 1 hour 32 minutes driving

Cumberland Caverns is hands-down one of the best day trips near Nashville. From gorgeous caverns to an underground waterfall, the best way to experience this outing is via guided tour. Skip the driving and hop on a bus for a guided small bus tour from Nashville complete with an excursion down to the caverns below. Take note that in order to reach the caverns, you'll have to traverse 350 steps hand-cut into the stone, so it's ranked as moderate in difficulty. If you're driving yourself, consider stopping in Mckinnville for lunch; Collins River BBQ is a local favorite.

Illuminati Hotties Return With New Single ‘Can’t Be Still,’ Preps Tour

By Angie Martoccio

Angie Martoccio

Iluminati Hotties, the project of Sarah Tudzin , is back with the chill rocker “Can’t Be Still.” The new single opens with a crisp guitar riff, as Tudzin sings, “I triple-book my Saturdays/But I pretend/My program keeps me from freaking out.” In the video below, she ambles around Los Angeles before stepping out into nature.

“I find that something I have in common with most people that I talk to lately is the immense fear of and inability to be alone with ourselves,” Tudzin said of the track. “Constant motion, avoidance, restlessness — anything to keep myself from stagnating have always been my coping mechanisms when my inner monologue starts to get loud.”
