What to Know About All 16 Ships in the Celebrity Cruises Fleet

Here’s what you need to know about every Celebrity Cruises ship.

Celebrity Cruises is among our readers' favorite mega-ship ocean lines — coming in at No. 1 in 2022 and No. 2 in 2023 as part of our World's Best Awards (WBA) — and it's easy to see why. This WBA Hall of Fame honoree truly shines with its sophisticated, tasteful decor and sleek onboard spaces, including swanky lounges, dazzling bars, gourmet specialty restaurants, and contemporary suites. Almost all Celebrity ships, except the three Xpedition-class vessels, offer standard amenities like casinos, retail shops, spas, and Broadway-level shows and entertainment. There's also the adults-only Solarium and The Retreat, the latter of which is reserved exclusively for suite guests. Paul Brady , Travel + Leisure ’s news director and cruise expert, told us, “Because its ships offer so much to do, Celebrity is a fantastic choice for families, who can choose from a huge array of well-designed staterooms and suites. With a fleet of 16 ships, it can be tricky to determine which Celebrity ship is best suited for your specific needs.Travel advisor Kari Becker of Marvelous Mouse Travels explains, "Whatever your taste, there is a perfect Celebrity cruise to meet your needs." She continues, telling T+L, "There are three main classes: the Edge, Solstice, and Millennium classes, all with unique features, benefits, and advantages." The Millennium-class ships are smaller which, per Becker, may "offer a more personalized experience." Solstice is the largest class of Celebrity's fleet, says Becker. "When designed, these ships focused on innovation, with unique spaces including a real grass lawn, and unique onboard experiences, such as glass-making classes." Last but not least is Celebrity's Edge class. Per the pro, the ships in the line's newest class are "the largest of the fleet, offering more space for additional experiences and restaurants, including a massive pool deck, floating platform at sea (aptly called the Magic Carpet), and Rooftop Garden." All in all, she says, "The Edge series is for guests looking for transformative cruising and splendor with countless gourmet restaurants and immersive entertainment." 

Ahead, we’ve listed every Celebrity ship currently in service — complete with their notable amenities, launch year, guest capacity, and other need-to-know insights — to help you determine which vessel is best for your next voyage.

Celebrity Ascent

Inaugural Year: 2023

Ship Class: Edge 

Ship Capacity: 3,260 passengers

Celebrity’s newest ship is also its flashiest — in the best way possible. The Celebrity Ascent offers an expanded Retreat area (exclusive to suite guests), complete with a 40-percent-larger two-story sundeck, and the swanky Sunset Bar, which is 180 percent larger. Beyond The Retreat, there are 32 bars, restaurants, and lounges, a lush Rooftop Garden, an adults-only Solarium, the three-level Eden restaurant and entertainment venue, and the Magic Carpet, a floating platform that reaches 13 stories above sea level. Finally, stay in one of the Iconic Suites, the largest in the Celebrity fleet, for the ultimate splurge. 

Celebrity Beyond

Inaugural Year: 2022

Celebrity Beyond is nearly identical to Celebrity Ascent . Both Edge-class sister ships have the same spectacular amenities and features, including a state-of-the-art spa and fitness center that’s sure to impress wellness-seekers, who will also be happy in one of the AquaClass Sky Suites, which offer in-room yoga mats and fitness equipment. It’s also worth noting that these suite guests also enjoy access to the SEA Thermal Suite and a dedicated spa concierge. Don’t miss the adults-only Solarium, the Rooftop Garden, the aforementioned Eden, or the Magic Carpet, which offers the best views at sea.

Paul Brady was onboard the Beyond in October 2022. “My stateroom, 9164, was a Sky Suite, with a king bed facing a private terrace and a clever roll-open mirror that let natural light into the spacious bathroom. Dining at the Daniel Boulud restaurant Le Voyage was one highlight — with seven courses — but so too were casual cocktails at Sunset Bar, with its touch of Moroccan design influence courtesy of Nate Berkus, who dreamed up the multi-level lounge,” said Brady of his experience.  

Celebrity Apex

Inaugural Year: 2020

Ship Capacity: 2,910 passengers

The second Edge-class ship, Celebrity Apex , made its grand debut in 2020. It boasts an abundance of stylish onboard spaces, including the Rooftop Garden and the adults-only Solarium. Access to the exclusive Retreat area is reason alone to book one of the contemporary suites. Other highlights include the dazzling three-story Grand Plaza, where you’ll find the aptly named Martini Bar, one of 29 bars, lounges, and restaurants aboard Apex , along with the orange-hued Magic Carpet, which offers live music and a full bar 13 feet above sea level.  

“I was fortunate to snag one of just a handful of Royal Suites on the ship, 12105, which had the look of a chic coastal Florida cottage, elevated with pops of bright green, geometric tiling, and contemporary art on the walls. The bathroom, with a deep soaking tub and spacious shower, rivaled any I’ve seen at land-based resorts,” said Brady of his November 2021 sailing. “Same with the Grand Plaza at the heart of the ship, a gathering place with a hotel lobby vibe in the best possible sense — and a glitzy Martini Bar.”

Celebrity Flora

Inaugural Year: 2019

Ship Class: Xpedition 

Ship Capacity: 100 passengers

Cruise the Galapagos in style aboard Celebrity Flora , which made its maiden voyage in 2019. The vessel was designed with sustainability in mind: It's built with natural materials and features anchorless technology to protect the seabed. Certified naturalists from Galapagos National Park are on board to help guests gain a better understanding of the region for an educational trip. The ship also offers a once-in-a-lifetime glamping experience, which includes dinner and drinks, a naturalist-guided stargazing session, accommodations in a cabana-turned-double bed, and a private breakfast. Plus, with its all-suite accommodations, the small ship has a mega-yacht feel.

Celebrity Edge

Inaugural Year: 2018

Ship Capacity: 2,918 passengers

This sophisticated ship — the first in Celebrity’s Edge class — changed the game following its 2018 debut. What’s more, Edge was the very first Celebrity ship to feature the Magic Carpet, the multifunctional Eden, and the Infinite Veranda Staterooms, which, with the touch of a button, transform your living space into your very own private balcony.

Celebrity Reflection

Inaugural Year: 2012

Ship Class: Solstice 

Ship Capacity: 3,046 passengers

The fifth, final, and largest Solstice-class cruise ship, Celebrity Reflection , will impress even the pickiest of travelers with its onboard activities, amenities, and spaces, including a total of 22 bars, restaurants, and lounges. In addition to The Retreat (reserved exclusively for suite guests) and The Solarium (adults-only), Reflection — along with all Solstice-class ships — boasts the Lawn Club. Located on the top deck of the ship, this chic outdoor space (which is outfitted with real grass, no less), is perfect for sipping cocktails, enjoying a leisurely lunch, listening to live music, lounging in a cabana, or playing a game of bocce or croquet. The adults-only Persian Garden area at the spa is a favorite amongst wellness enthusiasts.

Celebrity Silhouette

Inaugural Year: 2011

Ship Capacity: 2,902 passengers

Celebrity Silhouette is elegant in every sense, from the aptly named Grand Foyer — with its marvelous marble floors, extravagant staircase (which is prime for photo opportunities), and the first panoramic oceanview glass elevators at sea — to stylish lounges like The Hideaway or the natural light-filled Sky Lounge. While suite guests gain exclusive access to The Retreat, anyone can relax in one of the swanky pool areas or the laid-back Lawn Club. Then, when hunger — or thirst — calls, passengers can take their pick of over 20 food and drink options.

Celebrity Eclipse

Inaugural Year: 2010

Ship Capacity: 2,852 passengers

An impressive modern art collection, an expansive spa, a half-acre lawn, and top-notch dining: Find all this and more aboard Celebrity Eclipse , which debuted in 2010. This Solstice-class vessel also boasts an onboard nightclub, popular among party-centric travelers, a striking Grand Foyer, and, last but not least, the Solstice Club. Located at the highest point of the ship, the Solstice Club is a haven for R&R with its canopy lounge beds — and it’s also a popular spot for morning yoga or evening stargazing sessions.

Celebrity Equinox

Inaugural Year: 2009

Refurbished in 2019, Celebrity Equinox exudes cool. On board this stylish ship, guests can sip cocktails in style at one of several hip bars, including the Martini Bar and Slush, enjoy a picnic lunch or practice their golf swing at the half-acre Lawn Club, or soak up the sun at the adults-only Solarium or the plush lounge-lined pool area. Finally, guests should consider booking a suite to access Luminae, a swanky restaurant that serves decadent dishes designed by acclaimed chef Daniel Boulud.

Celebrity Solstice

Inaugural Year: 2008

Ship Capacity:  2,852 passengers

The first ship in Celebrity’s Solstice class currently cruises Alaska and the Pacific Coast in style. Here, you’ll find the lush Lawn Club, the adults-only Persian Garden thermal suite, and the glam Grand Foyer. Additional highlights include the Solstice Deck, an onboard nightclub, and a slew of bars and lounges, including the wine-centric Cellar Masters, where oenophiles can learn about – and taste — a wide variety of vinos from across the globe. Celebrity Xploration

Inaugural Year: 2007

Ship Class: Xpedition

Ship Capacity: 16 passengers

With a passenger capacity of just 16, the Xploration is Celebrity’s smallest ship. As such, cruisers can expect an intimate onboard ambiance. When not out and about exploring the Galapagos, guests can hang in the lounge, relax in their suite (some with private balconies), and soak up some rays — or stargaze — on the hot tub-equipped sundeck.

Celebrity Constellation

Inaugural Year: 2002

Ship Class: Millennium 

Ship Capacity: 2,184 passengers

This 22-year-old Celebrity ship offers a more refined, subdued atmosphere compared to the line’s newer ships, which boast flashier features like the Magic Carpet. The Rooftop Terrace area serves as a restaurant, bar, and outdoor movie theater, complete with cozy furnishings coupled with mouthwatering bites and sips. Meanwhile, the adults-only Persian Garden area in the spa is ideal for wellness-seeking cruisers.

Celebrity Summit

Inaugural Year: 2001

Ship Capacity: 2,218 passengers

Celebrity Summit, which cruises Alaska and the Caribbean, technically dates back to 2001; however, in 2019, it received a $75-million refurbishment to bring it a little more in line with Celebrity’s newest ships, including 2018’s Celebrity Edge . Expect stylish spaces galore, including the Sunset and Martini bars, plus a sleek Rooftop Terrace where cruisers can catch outdoor flicks while basking in the ocean views.

Celebrity Xpedition

Ship Class: Xpedition  

Ship Capacity: 48 passengers

Last refurbished in 2018, Celebrity Xpedition was purposely built to cruise the Galapagos. The immersive onboard experience includes nightly lectures by certified naturalists from Galapagos National Park, who will be on board the entire sailing. Enjoy postcard-worthy views from the Panorama Deck, or take a dip in the hot tub on the Sunrise Deck. Passengers can choose from a handful of elegant rooms and suites; however, those who want their own balcony will need to spring on the latter.

Celebrity Infinity

Inaugural Year: 2000

Ship Capacity: 2,170 passengers

Celebrity Infinity is a favorite among laid-back cruisers — primarily couples and adult friend groups. Popular onboard hangout spots include the adults-only Solarium, the buzzy Rooftop Terrace, and, for suite guests, The Retreat. The ship also has a handful of specialty dining restaurants (in addition to complimentary ones, of course). Le Petit Chef is well worth the added fee thanks to a combination of gourmet eats and exhilarating entertainment complete with tabletop animations.

Celebrity Millennium

Inaugural Year: 1999

Ship Class: Millennium  

Don’t sleep on Celebrity’s oldest ship, which includes a handful of fan-favorite amenities and spaces such as The Retreat, the Solarium, the Rooftop Terrace, and the Grand Foyer. Last refurbished in 2019, Millennium now features a more contemporary design aesthetic, similar to what you’d find on the newer ships. There are also more than 15 bars and restaurants on board.

Everything you need to know about Celebrity Cruises cabins and suites

In keeping with the ambiance on Celebrity Cruises ' vessels, the brand's accommodations offer an elevated experience without going full-on luxury. That means Celebrity's passengers can expect more sophisticated surroundings and an upscale vibe at relatively affordable prices.

Like the vessels themselves, the line's cabins are well-appointed and elegant, with modern touches that appeal to a slightly younger-than-average cruise demographic.

Celebrity Cruises cabin primer

Celebrity Cruises' fleet of ships includes more than a dozen vessels that fall into four main categories : Millennium Class, Solstice Class, Edge Class and Galapagos Class. Ships in the first three classes share similarities in terms of their cabin offerings. The Galapagos-class vessels are much smaller and include a narrower selection of cabin types and amenities. Because of this, the Galapagos Class will have its own section below; the other sections of this article do not apply to the Galapagos Class.

Although all of the ships' staterooms fall into the same general categories – insides, oceanviews, balconies and suites – the specific types of each vary across classes, particularly with regard to the most expensive options.

Even at the most basic level, nearly all accommodations include two twin beds that can be connected to form a king (most rooms) or queen; a desk and vanity area with a chair, drawers and a phone; nightstands with drawer space and reading lights; a sofa or plush chair; a coffee table; an in-cabin bathroom with shampoo, conditioner, body wash and towels; a closet with shelves, hanging space and bathrobes; a safe; a hair dryer; a television with a selection of movies and live TV, as well as shipboard channels and the ability to check the daily schedule and your onboard bill; a mini-fridge; a selection of outlets, including USB ports; and individual lighting and climate controls.

All cabins also come with the services of a room attendant, who will tidy your digs up to two times daily. All passengers also have access to 24-hour room service, which carries a fee of $9.95 per order, plus an 18% auto-gratuity.

Across the fleet, all ships offer connecting rooms, with some of the largest suites joining to sleep up to 10 people. The line also features special accommodations for solo cruisers on a small number of its vessels (specifics are noted below under applicable cabin categories).

Further, all ships offer several accessible accommodations across all main stateroom categories (except Celebrity Solstice and Celebrity Reflection, which do not offer accessible standard balcony cabins) for passengers needing extra space for wheelchairs, walkers and scooters. Those cabins feature wider (32-inch) doorways, a 5-foot turning radius, ramped bathroom thresholds, bathroom grab bars, lowered sinks and vanities, higher toilets, roll-in showers with fold-down benches, hand-held showerheads, lowered closet bars and accessible balconies (in select staterooms).

Unless otherwise noted, all cabins are designed for double occupancy. In most cases, solo travelers staying in accommodations meant for two people will be charged an additional cruise fare, known as a single supplement. Further, some staterooms are outfitted with trundle beds, pull-down bunks or sofa beds that can accommodate up to four people per room.

Inside cabins on Celebrity ships

Inside cabins on Celebrity ships run anywhere from 170 to 202 square feet, and they offer everything mentioned above. The one thing they don't have is a view.

As is implied by their name, they have no windows and no balconies for natural light or fresh air. These are stellar options for anyone on a budget or travelers who have trouble sleeping with any sort of light.

Celebrity Silhouette has four inside cabins available for solo travelers.

Oceanview cabins on Celebrity ships

Oceanview cabins on Celebrity ships come in at between 170 and 242 square feet, depending on the ship and type.

True to their name, these rooms offer views of the ocean from windows that don't open, so although there are no in-cabin ocean breezes, there is natural light.

They include all of the basic amenities listed above.

Balcony cabins on Celebrity ships

There are several veranda categories available throughout the Celebrity fleet, all of which offer traditional balcony setups. Types include basic balcony cabins (170 to 202 square feet, 38- to 53-square-foot balcony), Family Verandas (270 to 575 square feet, 106- to 242-square-foot balcony) that sleep a larger number of people and Sunset Verandas (194 to 228 square feet, 53- to 89-square-foot balcony) that offer aft views of the ship's wake.

The vessels also offer AquaClass and Concierge Class digs, which are essentially basic balcony accommodations with some extras. The former focuses on wellness and comes with free fitness classes, unlimited access to the onboard spa's thermal suite, dining at exclusive health-focused restaurant Blu, a healthier room service menu, daily bottled water, upgraded toiletries, discounts on spa packages and yoga mats for in-cabin use. The latter entitles cruisers to amenities like dedicated concierge services, as well as an exclusive luncheon, daily in-room canapes and sparkling wine on request.

Basic amenities are included, but what really sets these accommodations apart is that they provide cruisers with private access to ocean air – no need to venture to a public deck.

Infinite Veranda

As with standard balcony cabins, Infinite Verandas – which are only found on ships in the line's Edge Class – come with the basic amenities listed above, but they also grant a bit more interior space (202 square feet) in lieu of the usual walk-out terrace.

They earn their own category here because, as those who book the accommodations will find, instead of a traditional balcony, they have a window that can be raised and lowered with the push of a button. A set of see-through folding doors allows the area near the window to be cordoned off in order to make it feel like a more traditional balcony.

Celebrity's three newest vessels each have several Infinite Veranda solo cabins for cruisers traveling by themselves. Celebrity Edge has 16, and Celebrity Apex offers 24, while Celebrity Beyond boasts 32. They offer 131 to 184 square feet of space with 42- to 45-square-foot interior balcony areas.

Suites on Celebrity ships

There are 10 types of suites on Celebrity's ships, four of which – Sky Suites, Celebrity Suites, Royal Suites and Penthouse Suites – appear on every single ship in the fleet. Two more – Edge Villas and Iconic Suites – are found only on Edge-class vessels. Another two, Signature Suites and Reflection Suites, are exclusive to Celebrity Reflection, and the remaining Sunset Suites and AquaClass Suites are new to the fleet with the debut of Celebrity Beyond.

Passengers booked in any of the suites in this category have access to the exclusive suites-only lounge and pool deck, known as The Retreat, as well as dining in suite-access-only restaurant Luminae.

Cruisers in these accommodations also receive a slew of perks, including higher-level Wi-Fi and drink packages (upgraded from the free ones that come with all fares); onboard credit; prepaid gratuities; free in-room bottles of alcohol; complimentary laundry, shoeshine, butler and concierge services; and priority embarkation and tendering, among other draws.

An explanation of each type of suite can be found below.

These are the smallest suites in the fleet, ranging from 251 to 362 square feet with balconies that range from 57 to 163 square feet. They're arranged in a studio configuration, similar to what you'd find in non-suite cruise-ship accommodations. They're the least expensive option for those who crave access to suite-level amenities.

Celebrity Suites

For cruisers wanting the step up their square footage or storage space, a Celebrity Suite will do the trick. Expect 394 to 498 square feet, plus a balcony between 51 and 105 square feet, complete with separate living and bedroom spaces, a sizeable bathroom (with a bathtub/shower combo) and tons of drawers and cabinets to help chronic overpackers stow their belongings.

Royal Suites

For an even bigger upgrade, Royal Suites come in at between 538 and 687 square feet with verandas measuring 72 to 195 square feet. Each has ample storage, separate lounging and sleeping quarters, and a generously sized bathroom with a shower and separate soaking tub that's perfect for relaxing after a day in port.

Penthouse Suites

Penthouse suites are the largest accommodations found fleetwide, ranging from 1,291 to 1,432 square feet with 197- to 1,098-square-foot verandas that are large enough for their own private hot tubs. The two-bed, two-bath setup with a separate sitting area and dining table that seats eight, makes these cabins great for entertaining or sharing with travel companions.

Edge Villas

These two-deck suites offer an upstairs-and-downstairs setup with one bedroom, two bathrooms, and a living room in 739 square feet of space. There's also a 211-square-foot balcony. These rooms are exclusive to the line's Edge Class of ships, and they boast access to a private plunge pool.

Iconic Suites

Iconic Suites -- which are in high demand, due to their limited numbers and plethora of extras -- are the largest on Edge-class vessels, offering 1,892 square feet, a nearly 689-square-foot balcony (larger than most staterooms onboard, complete with a private hot tub and daybed), a bathroom with dual sinks and a whirlpool tub, and an unparalleled forward-facing view from directly above the bridge.

Signature Suites

While Signature Suite accommodations are on the smaller side, at 441 square feet, the 118-square-foot balcony still manages to include an outdoor tub with a rain shower so you can soak while taking in the views as you sail. They also include high ceilings, a shower/tub combo, and separate living and sleeping areas.

Reflection Suites

At nearly four times the size of Signature Suites, Reflection Suites come equipped with two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a cantilevered glass shower that hangs out over the ocean for simply amazing views. All of this fits neatly into 1,636 square feet of space, plus a 194-square-foot balcony. Dual sinks, a separate soaking tub with a rain shower, high ceilings, a walk-in closet, and a prime corner location round out the opulent offerings. These suites are only slightly smaller than Iconic Suites, but their verandas are far tinier.

Sunset Suites

Similar to the wake-view concept behind the line's Sunset Veranda staterooms, Sunset Suites provide an elevated experience with the same stunning vistas at each ship's aft. Some of these suites are on the smaller side, comprising 296 to 575 square feet, plus a 53- to 242-square-foot balcony, but they do incorporate separate living and sleeping areas, making them feel more like true suites.

AquaClass Sky Suites

These rooms combine the space and enhanced extras of a Sky Suite (including access to The Retreat and Luminae) with the perks of an AquaClass cabin – fitness classes, thermal suite access, dining at Blu, daily bottled water, discounts on spa packages and yoga mats for in-cabin use – to bring passengers a more health-centric suite experience in 319 square feet with a 79-square-foot veranda.

Cabins on Celebrity's Galapagos-class ships

Because Celebrity's expedition vessels are much smaller, they warrant their own section. What follows is a breakdown of the cabin types – most of which are suites – offered on each ship.

Note that Celebrity Flora, Celebrity Xpedition and Celebrity Xploration have neither The Retreat nor Luminae, so suite passengers do not have access to those venues. Amenities also may vary from those offered on the fleet's non-expedition ships.

Celebrity Flora

The largest of Celebrity's expedition vessels, Celebrity Flora houses 50 cabins with a double-occupancy capacity for 100 passengers. All staterooms are classified as suites, with a mix of several types of Sky Suites, including some with Infinite Verandas (330 to 365 square feet, 65- to 86-square-foot balcony); Royal Suites (559 square feet, 129-square-foot balcony); and Penthouse Suites (1,288 square feet, 321-square-foot balcony).

Celebrity Xpedition

Significantly smaller is Celebrity Xpedition, which can carry 48 passengers across 24 cabins at capacity. Availability includes 160-square-foot oceanview accommodations; 175-square-foot Junior Suites with 45-square-foot verandas; and a combination of suites – Xpedition Suites, Royal Suites and Penthouse Suites – that run the gamut from 205 to 460 square feet with balconies ranging from 50 to 235 square feet. Given that Penthouse Suites on the line's other ships span 1,291 to 1,432 square feet with 197- to 1,098-square-foot verandas, it's easy to see that suite sizes decrease as ship sizes decrease.

Celebrity Xploration

The tiniest and most no-frills option on Celebrity's roster is Celebrity Xploration, which carries just 16 people in eight cabins at its maximum. Oddly, all staterooms are labeled as Junior Suites, but while half of them have balconies (180 square feet with 245-square-foot verandas), the other half (190 square feet) don't. It's also interesting to note that, in the ones that do have them, the balconies boast significantly more space than the interior living area does.

Bottom line

Celebrity's selection of basic cabins is fairly standard. However, when it comes to suites, passengers have a decent number of choices, and even the smallest and least expensive options offer coveted amenities and access to dedicated spaces.

Although there are suite types that span the entire fleet, the line likes to create experiences that are exclusive to some of its newest classes and ships.

Celebrity Cruises has an active fleet of fifteen ships currently with two further ships on order ( Celebrity Ascent and another Edge-class ship, currently unnamed).

In this guide, we will cover all the different ships in the Celebrity Cruises fleet and how they compare to each other.

Introduction to Celebrity Cruises

Celebrity Cruises was actually founded in 1988 in Greece, by the shipping company Chandris Group. Originally they were conducting upmarket cruises to Bermuda.

In 1997, Royal Caribbean International acquired Celebrity Cruises and during the same year, the five ships became six with the addition of Celebrity Mercury .

By 2000, the start of the brand new fleet was beginning to arrive – this was the Millennium Class ships, which began with Celebrity Millennium in 2000 and was followed by three additional ships ( Celebrity Infinity , Celebrity Summit and Celebrity Constellation ).

After that, Celebrity created the Solstice-class, which consisted of five ships. These proved extremely popular and Celebrity actually went back and ‘Solsticized’ the rest of their fleet to bring the other ships up to the same passenger experience.

In 2018, Celebrity Edge debuted with a non-traditional cruise ship bow (a Parabolic Ultra-Bow, if you may!) and The Magic Carpet (an open-air dining experience attached to the side of the ship that can move from the bottom to the top of the ship if needed and act as a platform during tender operations)

What does ‘tonnage (grt)’ mean.

GRT (Gross Registered Tonnage) is a term used to calculate the volume inside a ship. It is a measure of cubic capacity and is calculated by the total volume from inside the hull and decks of the ship. 1 GRT = 100 cubic feet of space. In essence, the bigger the GRT – the more ‘space’ the ship has for passengers, cargo, etc.

How are ‘Passengers (Max)’ calculated?

You’ll see multiple numbers for passengers on ships – this is because many ships include extra beds in cabins (such as the sofa/couch can convert to a pull-out bed) – but the majority of cabins usually have 2 people in them. the ‘Max’ number is if every cabin used their additional pull-out bed, etc. This number is unlikely to be reached very frequently.

Celebrity Cruises Ships by Age (from newest to oldest)

Are all celebrity cruises’ ships new builds.

Just two of the Celebrity’s ships were built and owned by other cruise lines before being acquired by Celebrity Cruises.

The two ships are Celebrity Xpedition (previously Sun Bay for Sun Bay Cruises) and Celebrity Xploration (previously Athala II for Ocean Adventures)

Both of these are quite different ships from your usual cruise ships, they are expedition ships. This means they are much smaller and have very different passenger and operational needs because they operate in much shallower, confined waters and must adhere to even stricter environmental laws in these regions.

Celebrity Cruises Ships by Class (from newest to oldest)

What is the difference between the edge-class ships.

Celebrity Edge and Celebrity Apex are both identical ships. However, Celebrity Beyond is an extra 20 meters longer and has one additional deck. This brings 179 more suites and staterooms to the ship, a bigger (40%) sundeck at The Retreat and the Sunset Bar is 180% larger.

Celebrity Ascent is due to match Celebrity Beyond in terms of size and capacity.

What is the difference between the Xpedition-class ships?

The three Xpedition-class ships that Celebrity Cruises own are all custom-built ships, with Celebrity Xploration previously operating as Athala II for Ocean Adventures.

• Celebrity Xpedition is 90m long and carries 48 passengers
• Celebrity Xploration is 30m long and carries 16 passengers
• Celebrity Flora is 102m long and carries 100 passengers

Celebrity Xpedition had its capacity reduced from 100 passengers to just 48 passengers when Celebrity Flora launched. This is to meet the Ecuador permit requirements for cruising in the Galapagos region as Celebrity Cruises only has a permit to carry 164 passengers at any one time in the Galapagos region.

Celebrity Flora is the newest of the Xpedition-class and offers just forty suites – all of which have a private balcony. The ship has six decks and has a max cruising speed of just 12 knots.

Final Thoughts

Celebrity Cruises are known for its stylish cruise ships and fantastic service. A more premium version of parent company Royal Caribbean’s offerings some would say, Celebrity aim to make cruising trendy for those who would never consider cruising.

Their Edge-class ships, with famous designers and celebrity tie-ins, aim to break to entice those that enjoy luxury hotels and travel but are yet to experience a cruise and those that like both!

For me, only for a great deal or special itinerary. As an Elite member I have been on M Class ships numerous times and the Equinox once. We really liked the cabin layout and features of the Equinox.

I am not sure what I would do after the M class ships get retrofitted with some S Class features. But the Equinox is hard to beat.

Yes. Just sailed the Solstice after 5 cruises on 'M' ships (Infinity, Summit, Constellation). We enjoyed the Solstice immensely. However, I also enjoyed the 'M' ships and would not hesitate to cruise again on an 'M' ship. I particularly enjoy the 'T-pool' on the 'M' ships. No equivilent on the Solstice.

Yes, altho' we love S class & are booked on Equinox, S class ships do not go to some of the ports that M class ships do--we are booked now on Summit for a cruise to Bermuda & will look for a Panama Canal cruise on Infinity or Connie in the future..

Best ship is still Mercury with the real T pool (despite having a bad noro outbreak right now!!)

Agree with John and June, and in fact, we have already 'gone back'. We've cruised on every M-Class ship and it was our favorite Class. We completed a E Med/TA B2B in Nov/Dec 09 on the Solistce and Loved her! Beautiful..loved the specialty restaurants...the library and the card room overlooking the atrium is fantastic. Also loved the larger Bathroom with the glass shower enclosure.

But our next cruise is on the Millinnium, Vancouver to San Diego Wine Cruise. We've done this similar itinerary on the Mercury so we jumped on this one. Main reason? The T-Spa and the general layout of M-Class ships. I'd love to go S-Class but I don't really feel I'm compromising, just enjoying a different venue. We go forward cabins on M-Class so we can zip up to the T-spa and Aqua Cafe (liked the Cafe setup better on the M-Class) in the morning.

We cruise for the ship...love itineraries and booked this one because of the San Francisco overnight...but we are cruising for the ship, and we feel very lucky to have both M-Class and S-Class that meet our needs.

We absolutely love the S Class ships and have done the Solstice and Equinox and will do Eclipse. That being said, we absolutely love Celebrity and have gone back to Century and will do the others when the itinerary matches what we are looking for.

We sailed Solstice last year and although she is a beautiful ship, we just love the M-Class ships much better. We felt that the service that we have been spoiled with by Celebrity on M-Class was not the same on the S-Class. Meals were never served hot and we just felt like we were on Princess again. We are sailing Summit in 10 days and can't wait! :D

We cruised on Solstice for three weeks after the inaugural and cruised on Equinox in January and again B2B on Solstice. We have booked 5 more M-class ships and no S class for this year. We will probably go on Eclipse just to say we have been there.

The beauty of the M-class does not compensate for the practicality and ease of movement on the S-Class.

It's not that we did not like the S-class but for us M-class is home.

Having said all that, when we left Solstice and boarded Constellation the same day, we had an OMG moment. The colors used on Constellation are truly ugly in comparison to the new builds. Not waiting for an elevator forever during the voyage is worth more than the visual display while waiting on Solstice and Equinox.

We sailed Mercury a very short time after Equinox and thought Mercury to be a far better experience. Far more personal attention is provided on the smaller ships.

Not to say the new ships aren't nice, we are booked on Eclipse, but absolutely no problem going back to either M or C class, with M class as our first choice.

Yes, for the T Pool, I really missed it on the Solstice, but the Solstice was fabulous.

Will be sailing on Solstice in April (first time) and I am looking forward to seeing the new ship.

I have sailed Constellation (M Class) twice and will explore booking her for 2011. We prefer the smaller class ships. Great that Constellation is be updated - love that ship.

Yes, I went on Equinox for 4 nights in November and then on Summit

in January and have another cruise booked on Summit in May.

Not that Equinox isn't lovely but I also prefer the M and C class.

Can't go wrong with either class of ship!!! They both have their own personalities.

We much prefer the M class. Solstice was beautiful, full of glitz & glamour, but way too big for our taste. Just sailed on Azamara Quest and discovered we really like the smaller ships. Would not preclude us from sailing on an M class again though but probably not S class again. All of our friends would have to be going for us to think about it again.

Have done 3 weeks on Solstice and numerous cruises on M class. All have been great, but S class is clearly a step up. In particular, Aquaclass and Blu are a whole new level. Blu, which is as good as any of the other speciality restaurants, gives one an intimate "ship within a ship" experience.

While I miss the T pool, and Perry on the Connie, all things considered I would opt for the S class. However, if I liked a particular M class itinery, I would be just as happy to be on the Millie, Connie, Infinity or Summit.

Haven't tried the S class ships yet, we may do that next year on a Baltic cruise. Then again, we may stick with the M class itinerary. If they ever get around to publishing them!!!

WE did the Equinox Holyland cruise last October and the Infinity Antarctica cruise this February.

Similarities both are big ships. Frankly on either ship, pax tend to disappear. On departure from both cruises my DW and I remarked there were pax we never saw during the cruise. They must have snuck on at the last port!!

S Class positives more variation of food in upstairs buffet, newer, more stunning decoration. After three cruise days the newness becomes a familiarity.

S Class negatives no aft elevators so if you stay aft its a long walk midshps to go up or down. Good for burning calories

M Class positives. Better Persian Garden layout for us. Aquaspa crowd on S class overruns it sometimes. More variation in steam baths. Staff are friendlier and more attentative on M Class.

M Class Negatives obviously they are older ships. But they are spruced up despite the aging. On the Infiinity we felt there was a comfortable "patina" to the ship. Our expectations on cruises is not the same as Vegas. And after the severe weather and heavy seas (27 ft waves) we experienced on our Antarctic cruise on the Infinity, we are totally confident in the seaworthiness of the M Class. Can't comment yet on the S Class

All said we plan to do an Eclipse Cruise this next winter, just because

We also prefer the M-Class ships, leaving on Millennium next week. Solstice is beautiful, better designed ( i.e. cabin door openings) but was just too large. All of the extra restaurants took away from the MDR experience. It further created what I felt was a class-tiered environment (aqua class, etc.) .We are Elite X cruisers so we were hardly envious.

I hope the "solsticizing" planned for the M class ships does not take away their charms. We especially missed the Cova Cafe, and T- Pool area.

IMHO, no Celebrity ship can be bad, just different.:)

As my buddy said and before him my lovely bride...one Solstice class was enough for me. Too darn big. Plus it feeds into the idea that the ship is the destination. We we are just off the Quest in Hong Kong and it was by far our best cruise ever. The ports were the destination, not the ship. The ship was where we came back to at night.

Have done a big old bunch of X cruises and probably still will (especially on M and C class ships) but my new favorite cruise line is Azamara. What a difference.

Oh well, different strokes for different folks.

DrKoob - Jim - We are on the Millennium next week (with TravelingMom37) for the 4th time over the years and just love that ship. Good size, not too crowded etc... We also have a cruise scheduled for June on the Solstice (1st on S Calss), as they were having such great deals and we live a stone's throw from Port Everglades.

We also had some reservations and are willing to give it a shot. We waited a year for Celebrity to get the bugs out. Some issuies we still see are the elevators (only two banks instead of three); we made sure our cabin is on the hump (deck 9) - bigger balcony and near the elevator, the dining issue of Blu vs. MDR (IMO bad precedent to set - a tiered system) as mentioned earlier; some wasted space (i.e. lawn - as pool area is sacrificed); disco (Quasar) now on Promenade Deck rather than in Observation Lounge - like who is looking out on a black ocean at night?:confused: Would like to hear some comments on Disco.

We also feel that people are "overwhelmed" by the beauty of the ship-- but I look not only at the beauty of the ship -- but the food, service, etc.. Celebrity is trying to appeal to the younger set -- but it is their "well heeled" mid-life client base that keep the line going strong.

As for Azamara --their prices are high as they are giving you a higher quality of service (and separate itself from Celebrity proper) giving wine, beer and possibly better food (though subjective) they are trying to compete with Crystal, etc..-- but personally, I would rather be able to take 2-3 cruises a year on Celebrity, than 1 every year or so on Azmara.

Anyway, I am sure it will be nice on Solstice, but right now I am still partial to M Class.

P.S. We even went on the Century to Russia and Scandanavia two summers ago - but I missed my indoor pool for the cooler weather; would take it again but only in a warm weather itinerary (love C Class too).

Don't believe all that you read about Azamara's pricing. Our 14 day Asian cruise in a 1A verandah stateroom cost us less than any of our 10+ cruises on X ever did. There were so many discounts and so much OBC it was almost less than us going to Alaska. Seriously.

The newest of the Celebrity Cruises ship classes is the Edge Class. The Edge Class consists of Celebrity Edge (2018) and Apex (2020). The third ship in this class, Celebrity Beyond, is currently under construction.

The current Edge Class of ships is approximately 130K gross tons and accommodates just under 3,000 passengers. Future ships in this class will be slightly larger at 140K gross tons.

This cantilevered floating platform is a first of its kind. Certainly, it can’t be missed with its unique design and eye-catching orange color. This transformative space serves as a bar, an exclusive dining experience, and an enhanced tender platform.

Speaking of dining, this Celebrity Cruises ship class also features 4 complimentary main dining rooms with exclusive menu options, a brand new steakhouse Fine Cut , and the experiential tasting menu at Eden.

The Resort Deck offers a luxury 5-star hotel feel with trendy decor, wide open spaces, a large pool, and plenty of lounge chairs, not to mention the iconic butterfly wings.

Further, there is also the Rooftop Garden. This casual outdoor area offers a retreat from the pool deck complete with tree-like art installations, comfy lounge furniture, live plants, and some over-sized garden games.

If that’s not enough, the staterooms on Celebrity’s Edge-class ships are some of the most luxurious in the fleet.

Solstice Class

Perhaps the most popular of the Celebrity Cruises ship classes is the Solstice Class. With 5 sister ships, this is the largest class.

The ships in this class include Celebrity Solstice (2008), Equinox (2009), Eclipse (2010), Silhouette (2011), and Reflection (2012). The Solstice class is 122K gross tons and accommodates around 2,850 passengers.

The most prominent feature on Solstice-class ships is the Lawn Club. The Lawn Club offers cruisers a unique greenspace to enjoy while at sea. This half acre, well-manicured area on the top deck is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the views.

You can also play a game of bocce ball, listen to some live music, or perhaps even create your own picnic lunch.

The Lawn Club is also home to the popular Sunset Bar and Hot Glass classes. These 20-minute classes offered by Hollywood Hot Glass are available for an up-charge on Celebrity Solstice, Celebrity Eclipse, and Celebrity Equinox. These interactive one-on-one classes pair you with a trained glassblower to learn some glassblowing techniques as well as to create your very own masterpiece.

While the Solstice class offers a traditional main dining room experience, it is also known for its specialty restaurants, like Murano, and the lively Martini Bar. From the ice-topped bar to the talented servers, this is one spot you’ll find yourself visiting over and over again.

Additionally, these ships also feature two outdoor pools, an indoor Solarium, our favorite coffee shop Cafe al Bacio, and nightly entertainment in the main theater.

Millennium Class

The Millennium Class of ships currently includes the oldest ships sailing under the Celebrity Cruises flag. This class includes Celebrity Millennium (2000), Infinity (2001), Summit (2001), and Constellation (2002).

The Millennium class of ships are around 90K gross tons and carry just over 2,100 passengers. With that being said, Celebrity Millennium and Summit have undergone extensive refurbishments recently under the Celebrity Revolution fleet modernization.

If you enjoy smaller cruise ships, then you will love this class of ships. The Millennium class offers all the signature touches of the brand in a more intimate atmosphere.

You will also find the Rooftop Terrace which is unique to this class of ships.

Fans of Celebrity Cruises will be able to enjoy the specialty restaurants Tuscan Grille, Le Petit Chef , and Sushi on Five, along with the traditional main dining room.

Alaska is home to more than 30,000 grizzlies, but the state’s cruise industry is experiencing anything but a bear market as momentum of last year’s record-breaking season is expected to continue in 2024.

The most-visited Alaskan port, Juneau set a new mark a year ago with 1.65 million passengers descending on the capital city during cruise season, which generally runs from April to late October. That figure from the Juneau Chamber of Commerce is a Denali-sized jump of 30 percent compared to pre-pandemic 2019.

Coinciding with Alaska’s 65th anniversary of statehood, the upcoming cruise season appears to be just as robust, with 19 cruise lines sending 43 ships to the Last Frontier. Kicking things off for the second straight year is the 4,008-passenger Norwegian Bliss, which docked in rustic Skagway last week. With four mainstream-category ships homeported in either Seattle or Vancouver, Norwegian Cruise Line  has nearly 100 more after that.

Two competing companies have staked out even larger claims in this modern-day, maritime Alaskan gold rush. Holland America Line is sending seven premium-class ships for 141 total cruises. And at the top of the totem pole is Princess Cruises , which is celebrating its 55th year in these waters with seven premium ships sharing 158 departures.

Not counting grand voyages with itineraries so rich they make a visit to Alaska seem more like a pit stop, this cruise season will see more than 800 trips of mostly seven to 10 days starting or ending on this side of the Pacific. Where they’re all going is a destination rich in unparalleled wilderness, wildlife and native culture. In other words, bucket list stuff.

“Alaska is one of those places that draws you in and sets the hook right away,” said Kristi Switzer, destination marketing manager for Travel Juneau. “Visitors come for the otherworldly experience of being in the presence of glaciers and fjords, seeing whales and bears and finding the balance of Alaska Native cultural heritage with the rustic sophistication found in the capital city.”

Although Switzer recommends visits lasting several days instead of several hours, the city’s destination evangelist hopes that a partial day in Juneau and each major Alaskan cruise port will have 1.5 million passengers wanting more.

“This magical corner of the world has so much to offer beyond being a checkmark on people’s bucket lists,” she said.

Alaska is a checkmark for about three-quarters of all passengers headed there, according to the Alaska Tourism Industry Association, and the same can be said for two ships this season.

Starting with a six-day sail out of Vancouver on May 11, the namesake of Celebrity Cruises ’ popular Edge class will make its Alaskan debut with weeklong roundtrips from Seattle through Sept. 13. The 2,918-passenger vessel features a unique “outside-in” architecture that provides more floor-to-ceiling glass on the exterior and expanded outdoor spaces to soak up the Alaskan coastlines.

Edge will be joined by a pair of fleet mates for the season, albeit Summit’s seven-day roundtrips are turnarounds out of Anchorage or Vancouver, and Solstice’s weeklong jaunts are solely based in the British Columbian seaport. Celebrity, a premier-category cruise line has 57 departures to Alaska scheduled this year.

The other new recruit is Silver Nova, the youngest Silversea Cruises  ship in the luxury fleet to ever service Alaska. Capped at 728 guests, Silver Nova was launched last year and has the goods to do justice to a dreamlike place that captures the imagination of wilderness lovers and history buffs.

“Silver Nova is the ideal ship for Alaska cruising,” said company spokesman Brad Ball. “Her innovative design, which incorporates an unprecedented 4,000 square meters of glass, immerses guests into the incredible scenery of Alaska from virtually all venues and suites, with far-reaching views at every turn.”

The ship’s reimagined pool deck, which overlooks the water on her starboard side, and all-new outdoor venues — the Dusk Bar and the Marquee — allows unique openness to view spectacular Alaskan glaciers and wildlife. Those who want to experience an older and smaller Evolution-class Silversea vessel can book the Silver Muse, which also will sail mostly seven- to 14-day trips between Anchorage and Vancouver.

Because nearly every Alaskan cruise includes the staples — Juneau, Skagway, Ketchikan, Inside Passage and Denali with a land add-on — some cruise lines like to shake things up with unique itineraries.

Holland America has a roundtrip that makes it easy to visit the 49th and 50th states without a long flight. A new “Glaciers & Volcanos: Alaska to Hawaii” cruise, part of the premium line’s Legendary Voyages collection of journeys from 25 to 59 days, departs on Aug. 31 from Seattle or Sept. 1 from Vancouver aboard the 1,916-passenger Westerdam. The nearly four-weeklong itinerary includes seldomly visited Kodiak and Dutch Harbor before heading down to the tropics to make four calls to three Hawaiian islands.

Seabourn  strives to offer a more tasteful Alaskan cruise and not only because it’s an ultra-luxury cruise line. “Caviar on the Ice” is a savory and swanky soiree on every Alaskan voyage, and when the 450-passenger Odyssey is in Sitka, a town originally built by Russian traders in the early 1800s, Seabourn guests can enjoy a culinary adventure that includes a scenic drive to a taproom for a sampling of local brews and a few eateries to try Siberian-rooted pelmeni dumplings and a hot dog made with caribou that the locals call “reindeer dawgs.” Sorry, vegetarians and friends of Santa, but Blitzen on a bun is da bomb.

Disney Cruise Line  is sending its 2,700-passenger Disney Wonder out of Vancouver for 15 week-long roundtrips, one five-day spin leaving on July 24 and an extended nine-day voyage on July 15.

Other cruise lines showing passengers a whale of a time in Alaska include Crystal, Cunard, Hurtigruten, Lindblad/National Geographic, Oceania, Ponant, Regent Seven Seas and Viking.

MS Rotterdam, Holland America Line

The 2,668-guest MS Rotterdam is the third in the Pinnacle Class series for Holland America Line. At 984 feet (300m) in length, the craftmanship used to create the classic nautical lines of the ship’s exterior reflects almost 150 years of expertise within the company. Her interiors dazzle too, with fluid lines, vibrant colors and airy, light-filled spaces from the shared areas to the staterooms and suites.

Music is the ship's main inspiration, on show everywhere from the atrium’s dramatic harp-like sculpture to the impressive World Stage, where musicians play against a wraparound LED screen. Thoughtfully curated art is displayed throughout the decks and staterooms too, from museum-quality antiques and works by the masters to avant-garde sculptures and thought-provoking photography by emerging artists. Together, they make up a floating gallery of 2,645 pieces of work ranging in value from around $500-$620,000.

Silver Moon, Silversea

Silversea's  Silver Moon maintains the small-ship intimacy and spacious all-suite accommodation that the cruise line has become known for – yet takes it to a whole new level. The ship's high-end suites have been enriched with elegant decor, premium amenities and luxurious details such as handcrafted beds by Savoir. Bespoke crystal panels by luxury French brand Lalique have been incorporated into the brand's signature restaurant, La Dame.

The innovative new culinary enrichment programme Sea and Land Taste (SALT) is designed to immerse guests in culinary experiences, from classes and market trips to extra-special meals. Dining spaces are filled with unique objects and arts and crafts pieces that draw on influences from all over the world, while color palettes throughout are used to enhance the dining experience. Lighter tones brighten the demo area, the main restaurant has rich details and accents, while the bar has a darker, more mysterious feel.

Scenic Eclipse, Scenic Cruises

Scenic Eclipse  promises to deliver an ultra-luxury cruise experience for up to 228 guests. Her indulgent suites are flooded with natural light thanks to the floor-to-ceiling sliding doors, which open onto a private veranda or terrace. All 114 suites are furnished with king-size beds, ambient lighting and lounge areas. The Owner’s Penthouse Suites are even more incredible, each with its own spacious curved terrace, private spa pool and sun loungers, plus a private lounge and dining area.

The shared spaces are pretty decadent too. There's the 550-square-foot (51sqm) Senses Spa, emblazoned with gold leaf, and multiple pool areas. The stylish Whisky Bar has a floor-to-ceiling translucent quartz display case with 110 varieties of the spirit, while a sculpture of a gown – consisting of 5,400 spoons – marks the entrance to French Champagne bar Lumière.

Disney Wish, Disney Cruise Line

Disney Cruise Line’s imagineers have once again created a world of enchantment, this time aboard the Disney Wish . The ship welcomed her first guests in summer 2022 and has a distinctly Disney design concept inspired by timeless tales. The motif of 'enchantment' manifests throughout the ship, from the magical forest setting of the Walt Disney Theatre and storybook-inspired staterooms to the fairy-tale-castle Grand Hall, where a dazzling wishing star descends from the shimmering chandelier above.

The Wish Tower Suite, set high in the forward funnel of the ship (which displays the cruise line’s Micky Mouse logo), is a 1,966-square-foot (183sqm) penthouse in the sky and the most unique Disney Cruise Line accommodation yet. Another of the ship's magical features is Disney’s first Frozen -themed theatrical dining experience, which brings the world of Arendelle to life through immersive live entertainment and world-class cuisine infused with Nordic influences.

Regatta, Oceania Cruises

Regatta is the flagship vessel of Oceania Cruises' fleet and a shining example of the OceaniaNEXT rebuild of the brand’s four 684-guest Regatta Class ships. Her 342 lavish suites and staterooms showcase designer furnishings, while the reimagined public spaces feature Tuscan marble, a revamped color palette of soft sea and sky tones, works of art and a tasteful renewal of fabrics, furnishings and light fixtures.

Regatta has four restaurants including the iconic Grand Dining Room, which has been decked out with new bejeweled chandeliers. Other beautifully refreshed spaces include Aquamar Spa + Vitality Center, eight lounges and bars and a casino. Her decks are made from the finest teak, custom stone and tile work, and her lounges, suites and staterooms have luxurious Neoclassical furnishings.

Royal Clipper, Star Clippers

Royal Clipper is one of Star Clippers’ three tall ships and officially the largest square rigger in service. The elegant vessel cuts through the water gracefully, just like the legendary clippers from a bygone era. The five-masted, fully rigged tall ship, which has 42 sails, is beautiful to look at. Her Clipper heritage is reflected in polished brass and gleaming brightwork, expansive teak decks, swimming pools, informal dining, a convivial tropical bar and a comfortable piano bar.

The balance of maritime nostalgia and modern cruising is spot-on. Passengers can recline in the bowsprit net suspended above the sea or climb the mast to the Crow's Nest for stunning panoramic views as they sail. The 18,944 square feet (1,760sqm) of open deck and three swimming pools create an expansive outdoor environment. Another notable feature is the Captain Nemo Lounge, the ship's spa and health club, with underwater glass portholes.

Seabourn Encore, Seabourn

Seabourn Encore is the newest striking ship in the cruise line's ultra-luxury fleet. Modeled on the trio of ships introduced with Seabourn Odyssey, Seabourn Encore represents another stage in the evolution of small ship cruising. There are 300 suites in total, including 16 penthouse suites and five penthouse spa suites, all with verandas facing the ocean.

Seabourn Square, designed to be an innovative concierge lounge, invites guests to access every shipboard service in a relaxed, living-room atmosphere. The Square's thoughtful layout includes a library, upscale shops, an outdoor terrace and a coffee bar, all arranged across a light-filled space with dark-wood accents, a subtle color palette and striking blue velvet armchairs.

Le Ponant, Ponant

Le Ponant  is the flagship vessel of French cruise company Ponant. The three-mast cruise yacht, which relaunched in summer 2022, has undergone a complete refit and refurbishment. Designed by French studio Jean-Philippe Nuel, her common areas have refined, clean lines with an elegant finish. The color palette – consisting of off-white, taupe and caviar gray – reflect the classic, sophisticated style, with no need for embellishments or bling.

The accommodation is equally streamlined and elevated, with the number of staterooms and suites halved to just 16, housing a maximum of 32 guests. These are spread over three decks, each benefiting from large windows, and include a particularly lovely and spacious Owner Suite. The company has chosen to place the emphasis on space and freedom aboard Le Ponant, giving guests the sense of being on their own private yacht.

MSC Virtuosa, MSC Cruises

MSC Virtuosa was named in homage to the skill and expertise of the architects and shipyard partners who designed and built it. The ship carries all the signature features of an MSC Cruises’ ship. At its heart are glamorous, gleaming mirrored surfaces in the atrium, centered around a sparkly Swarovski-studded staircase linking all three decks of the ship.

The beautifully designed indoor promenade has the longest LED dome at sea and images on the high ceiling can change from an underwater adventure to a space exploration scene. The ship has 21 bars and lounges all with their own style and unique decor, from the futuristic white and blue of the Starship club featuring Rob, the first humanoid robotic bartender at sea, to the earthy colors of traditional pub Masters of the Sea.

Celebrity Apex, Celebrity Cruises

Celebrity Apex is part of Celebrity Cruises’ Edge Series. The ship showcases the talents of British designer Kelly Hoppen CBE, American designer Nate Berkus, Paris-based design firm Jouin Manku and British architect Tom Wright. Hoppen’s inspiration for the accommodation was to create an outward-facing design emphasizing the outdoor scenery. Each of the ship's two Iconic Suites, positioned high above the bridge, have more than 2,500 square feet (232sqm) of opulent indoor and outdoor space, complete with private terrace and hot tub.

The Grand Plaza is one of the ship's most interesting spaces, inspired by the piazzas of Italy. Its chandelier transforms the atmosphere from day to night, with the lighting changing from warm and inviting to bright and dramatic. Other beautifully imagined areas are the Rooftop Garden and the Magic Carpet, a cantilevered, floating platform set 13 floors above sea level.

Queen Mary 2, Cunard

Cunard’s flagship  Queen Mary 2 exudes classic style and elegance. Designed by a team of British naval architects, the traditional ocean liner has a long, sleek bow that makes her ideal for transatlantic crossings. Its black hull, red stripe, distinctive red-and-black funnel crown and bright white decks evoke the appearance of ocean liners of a bygone era.

The lavish accommodation includes beautiful duplex suites, each with a spiral staircase, walk-in closet, marble bath and private balcony. A daily afternoon tea is served by white-gloved waiters in the Queens Room restaurant, while Godiva at Sir Samuel’s has a decadent display of pralines and truffles. Elsewhere, the planetarium 3D cinema sends guests on an epic voyage across the solar system.

Seven Seas Splendor, Regent Seven Seas

An art collection worth around $5 million is displayed throughout the  Seven Seas Splendor . The impressive floating gallery includes more than 500 crystal chandeliers and more than an acre of Italian marble which fits in well with the ship's sophisticated style. Other standout aspects are the mythical dragon that greets diners at Pacific Rim restaurant and the alcoves that jut over the ocean at Sette Mari at La Veranda.

Each of the beautifully appointed suites has a private balcony, while the palatial Regent Suite – perched on the 14th deck – has a wraparound veranda over the ship’s bow. Its custom-made Treesse mini-pool spa is situated on the front balcony, while the king-sized Vividus bed was handcrafted by upscale Swedish brand, Hästens.

Viking Octantis, Viking Cruises

The new Polar Class  Viking Octantis  is imagined by the same interior designers, nautical architects and engineers who designed the cruise line’s longships and ocean ships. An integrated bow creates a longer waterline for the ship, featuring the company’s signature Scandinavian influence. Each stateroom has a Nordic-style balcony and a sunroom, while floor-to-ceiling, distortion-free glass allows guests to take in the views and keep the elements out. The top of the panoramic glass lowers to transform the stateroom into a sheltered lookout.

The stunning Explorers’ Lounge, pictured, has two decks at the bow of the ship with double-height windows to take in the scenery. Other cleverly laid-out areas include the Finse Terrace, an outdoor lounge area just above sea level with has recessed couches and lava rock fire pits, and the Aquavit Terrace and pools, set under a retractable glass dome. The design of the spa and fitness center is in keeping with Viking’s Nordic heritage, featuring a thermal suite with traditional Norwegian badestamp (wood-sided hot tub).

Emerald Azzurra, Emerald Cruises

Emerald Cruises’ first-ever luxury superyacht, Emerald Azzurra , launched in March 2022. She stretches to 361 feet (110m) in length and carries just 100 guests across 50 deluxe suites and staterooms. The yacht's sleek design enables her to venture to ports and harbors many other, bigger cruise ships are unable to access. Onboard, the infinity-edge pool offers incredible views of passing scenery.

There are six suite and stateroom categories on the Emerald Azzurra, each wonderfully luxurious (though some a little more so). The oversized Owner’s Suites are the most opulent, with separate bedroom and lounge areas. Best of all, guests can soak up the sun from the large private curved terrace with uninterrupted views. Designer wing chairs and footstools are a fixture in the Observation Lounge, and can be taken outside on clear days and for cinema evenings.
