Disney Cruise Royal Court Royal Tea – Is It Worth It?

Sharing is caring!

Disneycruiseroyalcourttea

Are you thinking of booking the Disney Cruise Royal Court Royal Tea? All of the Disney Cruise ships now offer the Royal Court Royal Tea.

However, at $210 for children and $69 for adults, this is an experience which takes some thinking about!

Disney Cruise Royal Court Royal Tea

Is the Disney Cruise Royal Court Royal Tea really worth the extra cost? Here is our guide to what the Royal Tea involves so that you can make up your mind about whether or not this Disney Cruise experience is for you.

The Disney Cruise Royal Tea was initially only available on the Disney Fantasy. However, it is now available on all of the Disney Cruise ships.

The Royal Tea is definitely one of those hot ticket Disney cruise experiences – you probably need to book it before you sail.

The Royal Tea is designed for children aged between 3 and 12. All adults must be accompanied by a child! This really is a child-centered experience.

The Royal Tea really isn’t about the food. You can find an abundance of food on the Disney ships, but the Royal Tea is not the place to go if you want your plate piled high.

The Royal Tea is all about the interaction with the Disney Princesses. The Royal Tea is by far the best Disney Princess interaction you will get anywhere on a Disney cruise.

The Disney Princesses are out in force on a Disney cruise, but this is the place if you want to spend some extended time with them. If you have a Disney Princess obsessed child, we really can’t recommend the Royal Tea enough – if you can deal with the $300 plus price tag.

Boys are welcome too, but to be brutally honest this is a mother-daughter experience. If you have a girl who loves the Princesses and you want to have a magical experience, this is a splurge you really want to consider.

Be aware that the Royal Court Tea is very popular and books up very quickly. We advise that you book this experience as soon as you are able to do so, prior to your cruise.

If you do not get one of the coveted spaces do not give up. You can always go to Guest Services as soon as you arrive on the cruise and ask to be put on the waiting list. Cancellations do happen. So don’t give up!

So What do you get for your Money at the Royal Court Royal Tea?

The main attraction is the up close and personal time with the Disney Princesses. However, there is a lot more to it than that.

The whole experience begins when you receive a very special invitation in your stateroom. You can either keep this a secret until the actual day or share it with your child when you see it. The invitation is a nice touch and just adds to the anticipation of the experience.

Don’t go there for the food. It’s a nice experience, but it isn’t going to be a mind-boggling culinary experience.

Aside from a lot of quality time with the Disney Princesses, your little ones will get some pretty awesome gifts.

The Start of the Disney Royal Court Tea Experience

You and your children will arrive outside the restaurant. Of course, the first thing that will happen is that you will be sprinkled with Pixie Dust! What better greeting?

Lady Chamomile and two Pages (yes we know they are Cast Members from the shows, but let’s not spoil it) will introduce each child and they will present them with a crown. This is simply the warm up to the much better gifts in store!

The Disney Cruise Royal Court Royal Tea is relatively small and that is what you will notice as soon as you walk into the restaurant. This is an exclusive experience and this really creates the impression that you will get extra special attention.

We know the cost is high, but we think the personalized attention makes it worth it for Disney Princess fans.

You will be sharing a table with other guests. This adds to the experience as they will most likely be just as Disney Princess oriented as you are!

The first thing that you will notice as you are being seated at your table is the beautiful Disney Princess doll on your child’s chair. This will most likely be the biggest hit of the day and most likely the cruise.

The dolls are beautiful and will probably become your child’s best friend for the rest of the Disney cruise and beyond.

The main draw of the experience is the interaction with the Disney Princesses. Don’t expect to see Anna and Elsa here as we haven’t yet heard that they appear – they really are the most elusive of the Disney Princesses. You are most likely to see Cinderella, Belle and Ariel.

We know that Tiana appears a lot on the Disney ships, particularly at Tiana’s Place on the Disney Wonder. However, she doesn’t seem to regularly appear here.

As with all Disney Character experiences, nothing is ever guaranteed. We think Cinderella is a pretty safe bet at Disney Cruise Royal Court Royal Tea though!

The gifts for the Royal Tea do not stop with the Cinderella doll. Your little Princess will also receive a link bracelet, a necklace with Disney Princess charms and an autograph book. If you bring a boy to the Royal Tea they will receive a Duffy The Bear, an autograph book, a cinch bag and a sword and shield.

The gifts at the Disney Cruise Royal Court Royal Tea are very high quality and your child will no doubt be pleasantly overwhelmed by the presents given out.

It really does add to the magical experience. A very nice touch is that the Disney Princesses hand out the additional charms. This makes them so much more special.

Your child can remember receiving the gifts from the Disney Princesses rather than them just appearing on the table. The musical box is a wonderful place to keep all of the jewelry gifts.

Do You Need To Dress in A Princess Costume?

disneyfantasyroyaltea

A lot of the children do dress in a Princess costume. This is part of the whole experience and it can be a good opportunity for your child to wear their favorite costume. If you don’t already have a costume, you will not be surprised to know that they are available to purchase on the ship!

What About the Food Served at Disney Royal Court Royal Tea?

We actually think that this is secondary to the rest of the Royal Tea experience on the Disney Cruise. You can find amazing food everywhere, pretty much non-stop on a Disney cruise.

The Royal Tea experience is about other things, but obviously, you want to know what your money actually will get you in terms of food at the Royal Tea.

Food is in abundance on the rest of the Disney ship, but it really isn’t here at the Royal Tea. Your table will be served with some small sandwiches and pastries. They are all beautifully presented, but let’s say they are pretty scarce.

You will probably be negotiating with your table mates for the chocolate eclairs! This experience is definitely not about the food. It’s well presented, but don’t come here hungry.

The Royal Court experience is one hour long. Then it is most definitely over. We understand that all magic comes at a price and it does have to end – but you do need to be aware that it is one hour only and then everyone is going to leave.

We would recommend the Disney Cruise Royal Court Royal Tea to anyone who has a true Disney Princess in their party. That age when your child is truly able to experience the magic of the Disney Princesses is most likely going to be so short, we advise you to capture it when you can.

A Disney Cruse Royal Tea experience will ensure that it is magical for you.

The final royal touch? You will receive a photograph of your child and the Disney Princesses in your stateroom. This is a fabulous memory of your Disney Cruise Royal Court Royal Tea.

This is undoubtedly a splurge for your Disney Cruise. However, there are many ways to save money. See our guide to saving money on a Disney Cruise.

Royal Court Tea on Disney Cruise Line

by Shannon Loehrlein · April 2, 2022

disney cruise princess tea

Disney Cruise Line is a great vacation to relax but also a way to experience magical Disney touches.  One of the most magical parts of my most recent cruise was the Royal Court Tea on the Disney Magic.  The Royal Court Tea on Disney Cruise Line is a unique experience not to be missed.

disney cruise princess tea

The Royal Court Tea experience is offered on the Disney Magic, Wonder, Dream, and Fantasy.  The Disney Wish will offer a similar experience involving Olaf and likely the other Frozen characters.  The event provides character interactions, musical theater, tea, apple juice for children, and sweet and savory snacks to pair with the tea.

The event is limited, and reservations are popular.  As a first-time cruiser, I was not able to book it during my window but was able to snag a reservation after another guest assumedly cancelled. Disney Cruise Line booking windows pertain to Castaway club status, giving frequent cruisers an advantage.

disney cruise princess tea

The pricing to this event is steep.  Children ages 3-12 pay $220 a child.  Adults are $69. Our food consisted of sandwiches, desserts, macarons, marshmallows, scones, and more.  Adults receive tea and children have apple juice.

disney cruise princess tea

The child’s price is higher because they release several gifts.  During our cruise, the children received an 11×14 princess matted print, a Cinderella journal, a Cinderella doll, a purse, a headband, a princess pen, a bracelet, necklace, and charms for the bracelet and necklace.

disney cruise princess tea

The items they receive may change.  For example, when we sailed, they were not providing full character interactions so we did not receive an autograph book.

disney cruise princess tea

Boys will receive a Royal Court cinch bag, sword, shield, pins, autograph book, and a Duffy Bear.

The Program

The program begins with each child being welcomed to the room with an announcer introducing “Princess or Prince” and your child’s name.  You are then escorted to your seat where the toys are waiting for your child.  Two characters created for the experience, Lady Chamomile and Chef Brule, narrate the event.

disney cruise princess tea

The characters even sing familiar Disney songs.  The waiters come to your table in synchronized fashion to deliver the tea and snacks.  Lady Chamomile and Chef Brule then introduce each Princess one by one.  During our sailing, Belle, Cinderella, Tiana, were all present.

disney cruise princess tea

Each character talks to the children and shares a story.  After each character is introduced they will come to the center for photographs and greetings with your children.  I suspect that since normal character interactions are returning April 18, that the Princesses will soon make their way to each individual table and will sign autographs again.

We loved our experience.  It reminds me of the tea experience at the Grand Floridian which has yet to return post COVID.  The pricing was similar and in both events the children receive gifts.  The Disney Cruise Line experience includes multiple princesses whereas the tea experience at the Grand Floridian only included Princess Aurora.

disney cruise princess tea

The Royal Court Tea was one of our top Disney experiences ever.  Our group only had about 25 participants so the children each received individual attention.  We also enjoyed the musical theater element.  I noticed that some of the actors in the event were also in the Broadway show  on the ship later that week on the ship so I suspect they are equity actors.  It was evident they were very talented.

disney cruise princess tea

I would suggest due to the price of the event to try it at least once but it may not be something you do each trip.  We also found Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique reservations the same day which I highly recommend.  Most of the children who attended the event were dressed in princess or prince outfits.

The Royal Court Tea is a unique experience not to be missed on your next Disney Cruise.

Royal Court Royal Tea Review: An Expensive Disappointment

The Royal Court Royal Tea (is it royal enough for you?) is one of the most popular and expensive add-ons for a Disney Cruise. Despite the high price – $220 per child and $69 per adult – it often sells out before any other onboard activities or port adventures, other than the elusive cabanas on Castaway Cay. In fact, if you’re not at least a Castaway Club silver member, you may not even get the chance to book a spot.

On a recent cruise on the Disney Wonder, my family experienced the Royal Tea so that we could see what the hype was all about. I’m not going to bury the important information here – this experience is a phoned-in shell of what it once was, the current description when booking is misleading (read: incorrect), and for our family there is no way that this is worth the cost. There are too many other ways to get similar experiences on a Disney cruise without being competitive about booking or parting with large sums of money.

disney cruise princess tea

The Details

The Royal Court Royal Tea is offered on most Disney cruises, and is available for booking if your party includes any children between the ages of 3 and 12. Children cannot attend on their own, and each party must also include at least one adult, age 18 or older. Children ages 13 through 17 may also attend, must attend with an adult, will be charged at the adult rate, and will not receive any gifts. Summing up:

  • Ages 3 to 12 – $220 per attendee (gifts included) – must be accompanied by an adult age 18 or older
  • Ages 13 to 17 – $69 per attendee (no gifts) – must be accompanied by an adult age 18 or older
  • Ages 18 and up – $69 per attendee (no gifts) – may not attend unless part of a party with children

Keep in mind, this means that the absolute bare minimum for the “full” experience is $289 for a child and an adult. Or a minimum of $138 for a teen and an adult and none of you will be getting any goodies to take home with you.

How does Disney describe the event?

As of this writing, the Royal Court Royal Tea is described as:

a regal Character Dining event where storytelling, singing, dancing, tasty treats, elegant gifts and visits from Disney Princesses are all part of the magic!

And what about the food?

Our majestic menu includes 2 mouthwatering courses—one sweet and one savory—and a selection of herbal teas. Don’t forget to keep those pinkies up!

The final piece of the event are all of the gifts that kids get to take away. Disney currently describes those as:

  • “Princess-Themed Gifts – jewelry box, link bracelet, necklace with charms, a Cinderella doll, autograph book with pen and tiara
  • Knight-Themed Gifts – Royal Court cinch bag, sword and shield, pins, autograph book and Duffy the Disney Bear plush”

Not to spoil the review here, but these lists are at the very least out of date or unreliable. Your gift package also has a default based on the gender on the uploaded passport of the attendee. Girls will get the princess gifts and boys will get the knight gifts. If your child would prefer the other package, it requires a call to DCL reservations by either you or your travel agent.

Food and beverage.

I was pleasantly surprised when Guest Services called our room the evening before the cruise and asked which princess was each child’s favorite so that they could get a personalized cupcake. I asked the girls, gave the responses, and we got excited! The details were starting to come together!

And that’s … where the excitement ended as far as dining was concerned. The description of the event promised two courses – one sweet and one savory. Instead, we received a three-tier serving tray with all of the food items. I’ll admit that they looked great. And the three-tier presentation is more similar to what you’ll see in other traditional tea services. But there certainly weren’t two courses.

disney cruise princess tea

The savory items were limited to a small selection of sandwiches. Now, we are a family of sweet lovers. Give us all of the desserts please. But I tried the sandwiches. For science. And they were fine. They were sandwiches that we could make at home.

disney cruise princess tea

The sweet options looked promising, and we greedily loaded our plates. And then we got to experience disappointment after disappointment. The options provided were obviously trying to carefully thread the needle between sugar-explosions that little kids would love and typical “high tea” options for the adults that spent ~$70 just for this food. Unfortunately, the balance didn’t work. My kids – who are not picky when it comes to their desserts – tried every option available to them, and only finished the chocolate-covered marshmallows. I enjoyed the macarons and the jam cookies, but had to agree with the girls that everything else was just off.

disney cruise princess tea

We were most disappointed by those special cupcakes we were so excited about ordering. The girls were given random princess cupcakes, not the ones they had just ordered (and remembered) the night before. My big kid had ordered Aurora and received Cinderella. My little kid had ordered Belle and received … Aurora. We asked the server if a mistake had been made, and she said that no – each child just received a random cupcake. We did a quick switch so the big kid could at least have her requested princess.

disney cruise princess tea

As for the tea, the girls were each poured “tea” from a personal pot, which was actually apple juice. This was clever. But my 4-year-old is not an apple juice fan, and there was no opportunity to order anything different. No lemonade. No orange juice. Apple juice, water, or nothing.

disney cruise princess tea

Similarly, I was poured some tea and that was that. No flavor selection, no options. Take it or leave it, despite the marketing, which clearly describes a selection of teas.

disney cruise princess tea

Once again, things started out well. We lined up outside of Triton’s (one of the rotational dining locations on the Wonder) and when we checked in, we got name cards. The royal pages announced each child’s name as they entered the restaurant and they felt very special.

disney cruise princess tea

Lady Chamomile and Chef Brulee are the stars of the Royal Court Royal Tea, and they are excellent. On our cruise, both of these cast members were featured players in Frozen: The Musical. They sing, they dance, they are entertaining for the room. That being said, the 40 tables of 4 are arranged so that 20 tables are on the aisle and 20 are set back by one table length. We were on a set-back table, and therefore didn’t get any interaction with these main characters.

disney cruise princess tea

Three princesses attended our tea – Ariel, Cinderella, and Belle. Each was announced and then entered the room and told a story about her first tea party, before perching back on the stairs and waiting for the other royal attendees. After all three arrived, they started touring around the room. Based on the timing of the event, each princess has about 30 – 35 minutes to make it to each of the 40 tables. I’m no math expert (who are we kidding, I pretty much am), but that means less than a minute per table. They’ll happily sign autograph books and have a very quick chat or picture, but that’s it. You’ll actually get more time with each princess (plus a bonus 4th princess) by signing up for the free Princess Gathering when you check in for the cruise.

disney cruise princess tea

The princesses themselves are lovely and make the most of their short time. We had already unintentionally run into Ariel right after lunch on our first day, and had met Ariel, Cinderella and Belle all during our Princess Gathering earlier on the same day of the Royal Court Tea. They remembered the girls and specific things they had already talked about.

I went into the event wondering how everything could happen all in one hour. I thought it would feel rushed. But with three princesses attempting to entertain 40 tables, and food that couldn’t hold their attention, most of the kids in the room were obviously bored with about 15 minutes left to go. The littles were all restless.

Things wrapped up with an official photo of each party and the princess crew. We were the second table to get our picture taken … but with 40 different parties, the ones at the end had to wait for an additional 15+ minutes.

disney cruise princess tea

Here is where things went off the rails, in my opinion. I went in with very clear expectations based on the booking description and seeing reviews from other sites. Let’s go item by item and compare the description to what was received.

disney cruise princess tea

Jewelry Box – This one was an obvious first miss. At least pre-pandemic, this was a true jewelry box, with a spinning Cinderella and music when it opened up. Instead, attendees at this Royal Tea received a “satchel” – a nice-enough little purse with a label saying that it came from the Royal Tea.

disney cruise princess tea

Link bracelet – Another big no. There was a charm bracelet, which is a smaller repeat of the charm necklace described below.

Necklace with charms – The necklace comes in one little baggie, and three charms come in separate baggies. These three charms used to be individually handed out by each princess as a gift, but now they’re pre-loaded in the satchel. I’m almost certain this change happened to limit interaction in the pandemic era, but it’s important to know.

disney cruise princess tea

A Cinderella doll – I’ve seen pictures of this doll even post-pandemic. It’s a real, “big” doll that is the type that will instantly become a best friend. Something similar to the Animator’s Collection dolls or an American Girl version of Cinderella. Attendees on our cruise received a Cinderella “barbie” instead. Yes, still technically a doll. But not a loveable friend. My girls left theirs in the box. They were unboxed when we got home, looked at, and laid aside.

disney cruise princess tea

Autograph book with pen – Hooray! One that is clear and true. We got an autograph book. We got a pen. Thanks, Disney.

Tiara – The most disappointing for our girls. We had gifted them “starter tiaras” that I got on clearance from ShopDisney before our cruise to wear to their tea, where I told them they could trade them out for their “fancy tiaras”. Well … oops. Mom fail. Or Disney fail. Because instead they got “Best Day Ever” ears that used to be exclusive to the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, then went on sale at all Disney parks a couple of years ago. No tiara.

Not on the list, each girl did receive a lovely leather folio with their picture with the princesses at the end of the tea, and a piece of “mosaic” art. These were fun to receive a couple of days after the Tea in our stateroom.

disney cruise princess tea

Overall Thoughts

This was easily the most expensive add-on of our cruise. More expensive than Palo brunch and more expensive than our shore excursion. It would have been more expensive than makeovers at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique. And instead of being the highlight of our cruise like it was priced to be … it was a mediocre hour with mediocre food.

If you ask my girls about their favorite parts of the cruise, the Royal Tea doesn’t get mentioned. If you ask them about their favorite thing from that specific day of the cruise, the Royal Tea doesn’t make the cut. If you ask them about their favorite character interactions, the Royal Tea isn’t even close. If you ask them about their favorite food, Eye Scream scores way higher than Royal Tea. If you ask them about their favorite gifts they received on the cruise, Fish Extender items blow Royal Tea out of the water.

Keep in mind, for me and my two girls to attend, the overall cost was $509. That’s higher than the cost of the entire cruise for my 4-year-old (granted, this was “only” a 4-night cruise, and I got a pretty good deal). It’s more than we spent on our shore excursion and Palo brunch and internet package combined . It’s about 8 times more than what I spent on Fish Extender gifts for our group. I expect GREAT things for that cost. Now maybe some of the gift snafus were due to supply chain issues. But that doesn’t solve things like cupcake confusion or short princess time or disappointing food and beverage options.

I even tried to add up the cost of all of the various swag to see what impact it made. The following items I found prices for onboard, or on ShopDisney:

  • Cinderella Barbie – $26.99
  • Autograph Pen – $7.99
  • Autograph Book – $19.99
  • Best Day Ever Ears – $29.99

That leaves the “purse”, charms, necklace and bracelet. Let’s value the little purse at $19.99 (a price I could imagine Disney charging), and the jewelry at $15.99 for the bracelet and $19.99 for the necklace. That gives us a grand total of merchandise worth $140.93. You also get a leather folio with a photo from the event, so we’ll round up based on expensive photo prices to $160 of gifts for each child. That means you’re paying that face value for those gifts, plus $60 per child for food and the experience.

Overall, I can’t recommend the Royal Court Royal Tea  for anyone.  That being said, I can provide recommendations and alternatives to have a better experience.

disney cruise princess tea

Suggestions and Alternatives

If you still decide to book the Royal Court Royal Tea, go with young girls and one adult, preferably a woman if there’s one in your party. There were a smattering of dads in our session, and they looked horribly uncomfortable with the whole thing. It’s a mom/daughter (or grandma/grand-daughter or aunt/niece, etc) experience. This absolutely doesn’t mean you should necessarily skip the event if you’re a single dad – just be mentally prepared for a room full of women and girls. Any kid over the age of … 8 or so isn’t really going to be impressed with the event either.

I’d recommend a much cheaper and more fulfilling princess day on your Disney Cruise if that’s something you think your kids would enjoy. First, book the  totally free Princess Gathering meet and greet for a sea day during your cruise when you check in 30 days before departure. Pack a princess dress for that day, complete with jewelry or a tiara or ears that match if you want to make things feel extra special. Get a princess-y autograph book if you want, and/or a fancy pen. Then make that gathering the center of your day. Before or after the gathering, go have a “fancy” little snack of your own at some place like the French Quarter Lounge. Get non-alcoholic cocktails and pastries. Make your own fun.

In addition to the above, or instead of the above, if you want the premium experience, do Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique instead. The fairy godmothers onboard are wonderful, and cast and crew members make sure to compliment newly made-over princesses. We didn’t do Bibbidi Bobbidi, but it undoubtedly would’ve been a better value. Packages there start at $99.95, and the Castle package is $199.95 – less than the Royal Tea, and an experience that my girls would’ve enjoyed much more.

Looking for a real-world experience instead of a Disney one? Lots of hometowns offer fun tea options for families with kids. Some are more splurge-y than others. For example, Erin Foster recommends the “insanely delicious” holiday tea at the Plaza Hotel NY, which is $118 per adult and $85 per child. No princesses or gifts, but a really fun and fancy event.

Have you done the Royal Court Royal Tea? Are you looking for more ways to make a Disney Cruise special for your kids? Let me know in the comments below! And stay tuned for more coverage of my cruise in the coming days. This Tea was a rare misstep in an otherwise excellent vacation.

I/m sorry you experiences this. My friend who went around the same time as you had a completely opposite experience> She received a real doll and a real jewelry box. Maybe they were low on inventory for your cruise? (No excuse of course)

anyways I have this booked for next Month. I hope I have a better experience for the price. We love Disney and are pass holders so we go quite often. This is our first cruise.

I wish I had read your review before we sailed! Just got off the Magic and we did have a great time but the Royal Tea was the one thing that really disappointed me. I was with my daughter and 2 grandchildren. Girl of 5 and boy of 7. They seated us in a straight row on a table for 8 with strangers opposite. I asked to be moved but they refused. We asked the people opposite if they wouldn’t prefer to sit opposite each other , mum dad little girl and a baby in a stroller and they refused! Awkward! The maitre D offered to move us to a different time but the kids were already into the gifts at the table. We had to pass along the tier of cakes down the row. Not sure if they were intending us to share with the people opposite. Very disappointing and I’m annoyed with myself for not making an official complaint afterwards. Don’t think we would do this again.

Thanks for this review. I got off the Dream a few hours ago (Jan 2023) and had basically your same experience except our princesses were Belle, Cinderella, and Tiana (and Lady C and Chef B). This review helped me decide to cancel our tea on the Wonder in a couple weeks, as it’s basically the same. I’m used to paying a lot for afternoon tea, but what was shocking for us was that at our table there were only enough sandwiches and treats for the 3 kids…or they just expected the 6 parents and children combined would battle it out over 3 of each type of pastry and sandwich. I still think this has to be a screwup somewhere but when I very pointedly asked about it, they suggested the treats were for the kids and adults got (below average but not indefinite scones…that bore a striking resemblance to muffins).

Also, FWIW, my daughter chose Belle as her favorite princess and got a Belle cupcake and Belle doll. We did Olaf’s Royal Picnic last year on the Wish and if you’re only going to splurge for this kind of thing once, I would 100% recommend Olaf’s picnic instead.

Well, I’m at least encouraged that the gift and cupcake were personalized a bit. That’s nice. But also glad that you saved money by not doing it a second time. I don’t think we plan on trying out the Wish based on what we’ve read, but I’ll keep your picnic recommendation in mind if we do!

I thought it was a tough pill to swallow back when it was as advertised. Thank you for your review.

That has changed for all interactions, not just the Royal Tea. I’ll be doing other trip report types of posts, and will include pictures. All of the hugs, autographs, etc are back!

Woohoo!!! Thanks for the update. Looking forward to the rest of your reviews.

That’s quite a review, and I’m glad it was as candid as it was. Not surprised considering the price increases and cost cutting that has been ongoing for ages. Maybe they’re starting to find a breaking point. I was curious about one item I noticed: it appears the princess and your girls were not social distancing. We were on the Fantasy this summer and all character greetings were still being socially distanced (including for autograph-seekers). Has DCL changed their policy or was this for the Royal Tea? Sorry you and your family were so disappointed with their experience otherwise.

Royal Court Royal Tea Party on Disney Cruise Line

Royal Court Royal Tea Party on Disney Cruise Line is a magical way to experience the Disney princesses with your little princess!  Our family has had the privilege of enjoying the Royal Court Royal Tea Party on the Disney Fantasy. It was magical, wonderful, and totally worth it!

Royal Court Royal Tea Party is a magical way to experience your favorite Disney princesses on a Disney cruise!

How Do You Book the Royal Court Royal Tea Party?

Guests can book the Royal Court Royal Tea Party through the Online Check In Process via the Disney Cruise Line website.  This experience is offered on all of the Disney Cruise Line ships. I was up at midnight when our booking window opened, so I could be sure to get two spots at this experience!  It was offered on our day at sea, which was ideal! This made the perfect end to our sailing.  During the Online Check In Process, I also booked an appointment for her at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique .   The tea party was scheduled for 3PM, and I was able to coordinate her boutique appointment for 1:45. This gave us plenty of time to get her make over, take a few photos, and check in for our tea party!

The Royal Court Royal Tea Party is Magical from Start to Finish

When we arrived in our stateroom on the Disney Dream, there were two things waiting for our daughter. One, was an official looking scroll, with the details of the time and date of the tea party.  It was a special invitation!  Also, there was a card in our room. This told us to visit Guest Services so we could tell them her favorite princess. Her choices were Rapunzel, Tiana, or Cinderella.  Later, we would find out that they had prepared a cupcake especially for HER, fashioned after her princess of choice.

Where does the Tea Party Take Place?

The Royal Court Royal Tea Party was hosted in the Royal Court dining room, on Deck 3 of the Disney Dream.  We arrived about 15 minutes early, to check in.  Upon arrival, they gave her a little card to present to the crew member upon entering the tea party.  As soon as she handed them the card, they announced, “Welcome Princess Natalie of the Disney Dream”, as she entered the restaurant.  Upon arriving at our table, we found it set with snacks, goodies for her, and of course tea cups!

Royal Court Royal Tea Party Experience

At each little girl’s setting was an 18-inch Cinderella doll, a tiara, a jewelry box, a charm bracelet, charm necklace, various charms, and an autograph book and pen.  She was SO excited, and so was I!  These were such a great gift, and they made perfect souvenirs.  So, if you book this on your Disney Cruise , hold off on shopping onboard.   Your little one will get some very special gifts during the tea party!

As soon as most everyone was seated, we were introduced to our host and hostess, Lady Chamomile and Chef Brulee.  As they entertained us with song and dance, crew members visited our table to take our tea orders and fill our cups with the tea of our choice, or apple juice for the children.  They also brought us a tray of finger sandwiches and desserts, perfect to enjoy while we had our tea party!

As we were enjoying our tea and snacks, Lady Chamomile and Chef Brulee entertained us with special songs and dance.  Then, the princesses started arriving.  One by one, they were announced as their special song played while they entered the room. As each princess entered, she arrived with a basket of charms.  She visited each table, giving each girl a charm that was specific to that princess.  Then, they made a second round of the room, stopping for autographs and photos.

At the end of our time, we were able to have a special photo shoot with all 3 princesses as we left the Royal Court.   This was a very rare photo opportunity, but the fun didn’t end there!  That evening, as we made our way back to our room, we found something special waiting for us.  In our room was an 8×10 photo of my daughter and the princesses, placed in a nice black leather folder.  So pretty!

Is the Royal Court Royal Tea Party Worth It?

I have to say, this was quite the experience!  It was pricy, and I liken it to an enhanced experience at Cinderella’s Royal Table.    I am SO glad we did it, as it gave us something fun to do on our day at sea….and my daughter will not be in the princess stage forever!  I highly recommend it for your next Disney Cruise!  You will be so glad that you booked it!

Not only do I love sharing all my vacation tips and ideas here on A Princess and Her Pirates, but I also work alongside families to create magical vacation memories year after year! Email me at [email protected] to begin the planning process, and join hundreds of families on my current guest list.

I have never done this but I have heard such good things about it. I know it is expensive but it seems worth it!

Can you tell me if it was difficult to book? Were you a first time cruiser and there were still spots available?

We are planning to sail in 2022 and worried it will sell out before we even get a chance to book.

Hi! I am so so sorry for the late reply! Booking the tea party, I was able to book that right when my window opened. We were Silver Castaway Club members at the time, so we could book a bit before first timers. I am glad to work with you on your 2022 sailing! I am a Disney travel agent. Feel free to email me at [email protected] . Have a great day!

Royal Court Royal Tea

May 3, 2019 by Disney Cruise Mom Leave a Comment

The Royal Court Royal Tea is an event held on all four ships.  It is for children (boys are welcome too) ages 3 – 12 and they must be accompanied by an adult.  Children ages 13  to 18 will be charged the adult price, and solo adults are not allowed.

It requires an advance reservation and it is not cheap. Currently, children are $220 and adults are $69.  You can check the DCL website here for the latest prices and lots more details.

Your child will receive an invitation in your stateroom the day before the event.  The event usually starts around 3:00 and begins with each child being announced and escorted to their table.  The girls will receive tiaras.  After that, there is individual time at your table with each princess in attendance (usually 3), and there is a short singing/dancing performance by the characters.

The food is typically things like finger sandwiches, scones, and cupcakes.  There is of course tea, as well as juice for the kids. Gifts are presented to each child.  Currently, girls receive these items but this could change at any time:

jewelry box

link bracelet (each princess that visits your table will give you a charm for this)

necklace with charms

Cinderella doll

autograph book with pen

Currently, boys receive these items:

Royal Court cinch bag

sword and shield

autograph book

Duffy the Disney Bear plush

In addition, each child will receive a framed photo of themselves with the princesses.

I have personally never attended, but a guest trip reporter did this event on the Wonder a few months ago (full trip report here ) and took these pictures:

This was her daughter’s cupcake:

This was her son’s cupcake:

To see when this is offered on your sailing or to make a reservation, check online once your online booking window opens.

Royal Court Tea Party, Worth the Money?

Screen Shot 2019 01 26 at 7.13.06 AM

A Disney Cruise is a really spectacular family vacation and your kids will be treated like superstars throughout your voyage. They will have a blast in the kids’ clubs and on the pool deck. If you are looking to add on just one special, extra cost event to your cruise to enjoy WITH your kids, the Royal Court Royal Tea Party is truly over the top in every way!

What is the Royal Court Royal Tea Party?

The Royal Court Tea Party is a special event held on all four Disney ships. If you are traveling with a princess or prince between the ages of 3 and 12, you are invited to join in the fun. Hosted by Lady Chamomile and Chef Brule, this event combines a show with a light meal and a character greeting with some special Disney princesses.

Royal Court Royal Tea Party

The Royal Court Royal Tea Party needs to be booked in advance of your sailing. You will be able to reserve onboard activities as well as Port Adventures prior to your sail date. These dates vary based on your Castaway Club Level , how many times you have sailed with Disney Cruise Line in the past. You can book your activities online and it is highly recommended that you book the Royal Court Royal Tea Party as soon as possible after your booking window opens. It is a very popular activity and will sell out.

What is included in the Royal Court Royal Tea Party?

Your little princess or prince will be showered with gifts upon their arrival at the tea party. Princesses receive a Cinderella doll, tiara, jewelry box, bracelet, charm necklace, and an autograph book with pen. Princes receive a cinch sack, pins, autograph book with pen, Duffy the Disney Bear, and a sword and shield.

Royal Court Royal Tea Party

After your event, a photo of your child with the princesses will be delivered to your stateroom. This is presented in a beautiful folio and makes a fantastic memento of your experience that you can bring home with you and display.

The Royal Court Royal Tea Party does come at a cost – the event is $279 for the first child and adult, and an additional $210 for each additional child and $69 for each additional adult. After attending the event with my daughter on our last cruise, I would highly recommend this activity as worth the cost. We left with gifts, photographs and memories that we will treasure forever.

Character Dining on Disney Cruises: A Guide

If you’re planning a Disney Cruise with your family, one of the highlights will undoubtedly be character dining experiences. These unique character meals offer something for everyone, whether it’s meeting your favorite Disney princesses or participating in exciting rotational dining shows with characters. This guide will explore the different facets of character dining on Disney Cruises.

What are Character Meals on Disney Cruises? An Overview

Disney cruises are renowned for their magical character dining events, where the enchantment of Disney is served right at your table. Whether it’s the sparkle in a child’s eyes when they see their favorite princess or the excitement of a Frozen-themed feast, these experiences are thrilling for kids and adults alike.

Character Dining on Disney Cruises - Wandering Oaken leads a toast

It’s important to note that many character dining experiences on Disney cruise ships are more show-based , contrasting with the one-on-one interactions at places like Chef Mickey’s or Cinderella’s Royal Table in the Disney theme parks . So, those expecting a traditional park-style dining encounter might find the shipboard experience slightly different (or even underwhelming). If one-on-one character time is important to you, be sure to select one of the experiences that specifically offers that.

Here’s a rundown of the character meals:

  • Special Character Dining Events: Disney Cruise Line hosts dining with princesses and Frozen characters, with photos and interactions. Magical décor and kid-friendly menus provide an immersive experience. Reservations are required, and these are not included in the fare.
  • Rotational Dining Shows with Characters: These dinner shows transform mealtime into a spectacle. Draw a character that later dances with Disney icons or indulge in Frozen-themed fun. Animator’s Palate is a prime example, offering an innovative twist on character engagement. These character dinners are included with your fare.
  • Disney Character Breakfasts (Limited) : These breakfasts, once a cherished tradition on 7-night and longer voyages, have been discontinued since the COVID pandemic . However, there is an offering that is almost like a traditional Disney character breakfast on sailings which feature a PIXAR Day at Sea . And Disney Cruise Line still offers various other character experiences throughout the ship.

Whether it’s lunch with Elsa or a dinner show with Mickey, Disney Cruise Line’s character dining caters to everyone’s taste.

Our Review : The Royal Tea Party was an extraordinary experience. Meeting Belle, Cinderella, and other princesses brought joy to our 5-year-old, Ava. The tea party treats were delicious and cute, making for a truly magical memory. Is it worth it? There’s no denying that the cost makes it a splurge. Although it was expensive, Ava found it well worth it!

Our Review : Olaf’s Royal Picnic was a hit with our friend Zach’s daughter, who is an Olaf fan. The indoor summertime meadow setting, lively character interactions, and delightful menu impressed both the Samantha and Zach. The thoughtfully curated gifts added a special touch! In Zach’s opinion, it was well worth the price – the unforgettable memories and joys shared are well worth the money.

  • Animation Magic : Enjoy a solely on-screen appearance by Mickey and seize the opportunity to draw your own characters that come to life on the screen – a unique and engaging touch that turns you into an animator.
  • Undersea Magic : Engage in an on-screen interaction with Crush from Finding Nemo in a performance mirroring EPCOT’s Turtle Talk with Crush . It’s an ocean of fun!
  • A Diverse Culinary Palette : Delight in a menu rich in Pacific Island foods, Asian dishes, and California cuisine. An exciting fusion of flavors complements the engaging dinner shows.
  • Interactive Character Experience : Though character interactions are fairly minor, the creative integration of animations and the ability to draw your own characters make the dining experience thoroughly enjoyable and memorable.

Our Review : Jaimie and I appreciated the blend of familiar and adventurous food choices. Ben was ecstatic to interact with his favorite Frozen characters, while Ava was mesmerized by the magical environment. The quality of character entertainment and interactions was in a class by itself, far surpassing traditional character meals. The characters’ visits to our table , live musical performances, and the extraordinary setting made for a memorable dining experience for all of us. Even us jaded adults enjoyed it. The Arendelle experience was a highlight of our cruise, providing a delightful and immersive Frozen experience. It’s a must-do for any Frozen fans!

5. Worlds of Marvel Restaurant

You’ll need the Quantum Core device on your table in the event that something goes awry during dinner.

Our Review : Jaimie and I were impressed by the innovative technology and engaging Marvel-themed adventure. It felt like we were part of a Marvel movie, assisting Ant-Man and The Wasp to avert a crisis. Ben, being a Marvel fan, found this dining experience thoroughly entertaining. The food was good, and the décor was impressive, though not as magical as Arendelle. Ava found the experience fun but was not as engaged as she was at the Frozen-themed restaurant.

Have Character Dining Questions But Don’t Want To Wait On Hold?

6. Rapunzel’s Royal Table

Disney character Rapunzel reaches for a floating lantern in the dining room of Rapunzel's Royal Table

  • Location : Disney Magic
  • A Feast Fit for Royalty : Indulge in a menu of classic American favorites and international flavors such as ravioli stuffed with pulled beef, pan-seared sea bass filet, and desserts like crème brûlée cheesecake and towering chocolate cake. For true Tangled aficionados, don’t miss the angel hair pasta braided with caramelized sea scallops.
  • A Joyous Celebration : Enter the kingdom of Corona for a joyous celebration of Rapunzel’s birthday. The royal ballroom’s glowing wish lanterns and colorful drawings set the stage for live entertainment, including singing, dancing, and appearances by Rapunzel, Flynn Rider, and the mischievous Snuggly Duckling Thugs.
  • Interactive Experience : The dinner event includes a song-and-dance and brief table visits by the characters, making you feel part of the story. The spirited parade capping off the night ensures an engaging and festive experience for all.

Our Review : Rapunzel’s Royal Table was a dream come true for our daughter Ava, who adores Rapunzel. The characters stayed in their roles perfectly, adding to the magic. My wife and I appreciated the superb service and elegance of the event. Though the food was good, it was secondary to the immersive experience. Between the visual wonders, lively entertainment, and regal setting, the night was filled with fairy tale magic, making it an essential part of our Disney cruise.

7. Tiana’s Place

Performers in brightly-colored Mardi Gras costumes at Tiana's Place on the Disney Wonder cruise ship

For those seeking a joyous and lively celebration of southern charm, Tiana’s Place offers an unforgettable experience, complete with live jazz and iconic storytelling.

  • Location : Disney Wonder
  • Bounty from the Bayou : Savor Creole and Cajun cuisine like New Orleans Seafood Pepper Pot, Cajun-spiced sea bass, and delightful desserts like Tiana’s Buttermilk Beignets and New Orleans Banana Foster Sundae.
  • A Swinging Supper Club : Step into a festive New Orleans-style family gala with toe-tapping live jazz that brings The Princess and the Frog to life. Experience genteel southern charm in a vivid, brightly lit restaurant where they celebrate Mardi Gras nightly.
  • Character Engagement : Tiana’s Place on Disney Wonder has appearances by Tiana and Louis (the trumpeting alligator). We briefly said hello to Tiana at the entrance, but I don’t recall much at-the-table interaction during the dinner.

Our Review : Jaimie and I were transported into the enchanting world of New Orleans at Tiana’s Place. The jazzy atmosphere and playful interactions with Tiana and Prince Naveen made for a lively evening. We delighted in the flavorful Cajun dishes, and the Buttermilk Beignets were a standout dessert that we both loved. The blend of live music, storytelling, and southern charm created a festive and unique dining experience. We can’t wait to share this magical experience with our kids in the future!

8. Hey Howdy Breakfast with Woody and Friends

For Pixar enthusiasts eager to join the fun, the Hey Howdy Breakfast offers a thrilling experience with Woody and his friends.

  • Location : Animator’s Palate — offered only on cruises featuring a PIXAR Day at Sea.
  • Cost : Included in your cruise fare, but reservations are required
  • A Special Not-Quite-A-Character-Breakfast Dining Event : Though character breakfasts on Disney Cruise Line have been discontinued, this new experience brings Woody, Jessie, and Bullseye to life in a unique way. Savor a breakfast feast while enjoying an interactive show from the stage. No face-to-face meetings are required (or offered), though the characters may pass relatively close by your table during the meal. It’s important to note that Disney is very careful not to call this a “character breakfast,” so don’t expect the same type of one-on-one attention you might get at, say, Chef Mickey’s.
  • Live Entertainment Extravaganza : The Hey Howdy Breakfast is more than a meal. Woody appears on stage with his pals to sing, dance, and interact with guests from “on stage.” This creates a lively, engaging atmosphere that goes beyond the typical dining experience.
  • Reservations : Must reserve in advance; no walk-ups.

Our Review : We haven’t had the opportunity to try the Hey Howdy Breakfast with Woody and Friends yet, but the idea of breakfast with some of Pixar’s most beloved characters sounds like fun! The blend of delicious food and innovative, interactive entertainment offers a unique twist on the traditional character meal, and it’s on our list for the next Disney Fantasy cruise.

Disney Character Dining: Pros and Cons

  • Unique Interactions : Enjoy memorable and sometimes personal interactions with your favorite Disney characters.
  • Extended Time with Characters : Dinner shows provide more time to see characters compared to brief meet-and-greets.
  • Smart Use of Time : Seeing characters during meals at restaurants lets you “multitask,” freeing up more leisure time on the rest of your cruise.
  • Engaging Storytelling : Experience the fun and engaging Disney storytelling during your meal.
  • Themed Menus : Savor delicious meals inspired by the characters’ worlds, adding to the immersion.
  • Family Fun : An entertaining and joyous activity for the whole family to enjoy together.
  • Included in Cruise Fare : Most character dining experiences are part of the standard dining schedule and included in your Disney cruise fare , meaning no additional cost.
  • Additional Costs for Some Events : Select character dining experiences require an additional payment on top of your cruise fare.
  • Fixed Dining Times : The scheduled dining times might not align with everyone’s preferences or needs.
  • Potential Distraction for Children : The excitement of character interactions might distract some children from eating their meals.
  • Possibly Loud and Busy : Depending on the event, the environment can be a bit loud and bustling, which might not suit all guests.

Tips for Disney Character Meals

  • Know the Schedule : Familiarize yourself with the dining times and character appearances to plan your day accordingly.
  • Bring a Camera : Don’t forget to capture the memories with photographs. Many dining experiences also have official photographers on hand.
  • Consider Dietary Restrictions : If anyone in your party has dietary restrictions, make sure to notify the cruise line or your travel agent in advance.
  • Prepare Your Children : If your kids are shy or apprehensive around characters, prepare them beforehand so they know what to expect.
  • Understand the Costs : Determine what’s included in your cruise fare and what might require additional payment to avoid surprises.
  • Manage Expectations : Explain how the character dining works to your kids so they know what to expect (i.e., sometimes there is no meet-and-greet).
  • Enjoy the Experience : Engage with the characters, participate in the activities, and immerse yourself in the experience. This total participation will make it fun for everyone!

Will Disney Character Breakfasts Return to the Ships?

Disney Cruise Line’s character breakfasts were discontinued during the COVID pandemic and have not returned. There is a possibility that this beloved experience may make a complete return to Disney Cruise Line in the future. The appearance of the Hey Howdy Breakfast with Woody and Friends — which is almost a character breakfast — is certainly a positive sign.

Meeting Disney Characters on Disney Cruises (Outside of Dining)

Apart from character dining experiences, you can meet and greet your favorite characters at common areas, special gatherings, and themed cruises. Character appearances vary by sailing, so consult your schedule to enjoy these magical opportunities!

Is Character Dining Worth It on Disney Cruise Line?

Character dining on Disney Cruises offers both included experiences and paid events with beloved Disney characters. Whether it’s worth it depends on your family’s preferences, budget, and the ages and interests of your children .

The included character dining is a definite Disney must, providing unique interactions and immersive storytelling.

The paid events, although expensive, can be amazing experiences for youngsters who adore the characters involved.

Royal Court Royal Tea Booking Questions

I'm hoping to book the Royal Court Tea for my granddaughter and have a few questions. **First, as first time cruisers I know we get last pick so I want to maximize my chances. Would there more likely be an opening if there's just one adult with the kiddo or would we be just as likely with 2 adults? **Also, my granddaughter and her family are in a different room and on a different (but linked) reservation. Can I book for them? Daughter isn't loving the idea of staying up til midnight lol! **Finally, what information will I need to have on hand if I'm booking for them? Thanks!

Earning My Ears

I just got off the Disney dream this morning, 1st time cruiser as well it was my daughters birthday. Once bookings opened for me the royal tea was already booked, I checked everyday nothing became available. Once on the ship I went to guest services my daughter and I were 1st on the waitlist. Royal tea was at 3pm in royal palace we waited outside dressed and ready in case someone didn’t show but it was all booked! We had no luck at all, but we did look in though the window at it and there was so much to do on the ship and I bought so many souvenirs I’m glad I saved the $289.

I like marshmallows. and adult beverages..

I think capacity is based on youth, with more flex around the adults. That said, I really wouldn't book more than 1 adult for the Tea. The value is weak for additional adults. There was a family on my last cruise who brought 6 adults with 1 child. I had thoughts.

otten

We did this on our last cruise and it was a fun experience. It was me and two daughters. I will say though that while the experience was special it was not quite as good as the Perfectly Princess Tea and the Grand Floridian so if you are spending time at WDW before or after the cruise I would also consider that option.

So what exactly is the cost? Is it $289 for adult and child or for each person? What if two adults wish to go? I'm looking at this but not sure.

But you can have more than one adult with the child. We are having 3 adults (mom ans the 2 grandmas) with 2 children. When you book, it won’t let you book unless at least one of the children are selected. We linked reservations.

Doingitagain said: We are doing that. But it was a struggle because the child and one adult were platinum and booked at that window. When the gold window came up, the other adult tried to book and it wouldn't let her because she didn't have a child selected, even though she was linked to the other reservation. We had to contact DCL and get some "pixie dust" to get her added. I didn't think it would be a problem, since she is at our same table and shouldn't impact capacity that way. Click to expand...

Disney Cruise Royal Court Royal Tea experience

Disney Cruise Royal Court Royal Tea

One thing we have learned about each and every Disney trip – no matter whether you are on land or on the sea, there is Disney magic around every turn. I’m back with the second post in my Disney Cruise series (you did read about Tiana’s restaurant , right?). This time I want to tell you about an extra special event onboard – the Disney Cruise Royal Court Royal Tea!

Now Available On All Disney Ships

While guests onboard the Disney Fantasy and Disney Dream have been able to enjoy this exclusive event for a while now, just recently was the Royal Court Royal Tea offered on the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder. In fact, because we were on the 2nd cruise on the newly re-imagined Disney Wonder this November, we were one of the first to experience the event on the ship.

Disney Cruise Royal Court Royal Tea Chef Brule

The Disney Cruise Royal Court Royal Tea is hosted by Lady Chamomile and Chef Brule. Now, we may have never heard of these characters before, but let me tell you they were just who you’d imagine would host a Disney-themed tea party!

Full of Disney songs, humor, sweet and savory treats, gifts, and a few princesses, this is one experience I’m glad I got to share with my daughter.

Extra Cost Experience

Unlike many things onboard a Disney cruise, this experience does cost additional money, similar to Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique. It’s one that gives your little princess (or prince) some one on one time with the Disney princesses, and when time with them is much-limited to photographs in the lobby, it can be hard to get that on a ship.

Each family must decide whether it’s worth the cost (detailed at the end), but I want to show you all the happens during the experience and what gifts are bestowed upon your kiddos, so that you can make an informed decision. As for me, I’m all about experiences more than gifts – the Disney Cruise Royal Court Royal Tea is a great combination of both.

Disney Cruise Royal Court Royal Tea Invitation

Book in Advance

When the magical date opens up for your particular cruise, where you can log-in online and select any additional activities and dining options (you will be notified of this date), you need to do so right away.

Everything can fill up incredibly quick, and while many of them don’t cost an additional fee,  they are hard-ticket events. You must sign up BEFORE your cruise departs for things like meet and greets with princesses, character breakfasts with your Disney Junior friends. All free, but you need tickets.

The Disney Cruise Royal Court Royal Tea does cost an additional fee AND also needs to be booked BEFORE your cruise departs (as soon as that magical date opens online).

What Day to Book the Disney Cruise Royal Court Royal Tea?

While I’m not familiar with all ships, on the Disney Wonder, the Royal Court Royal Tea happened promptly at 3:00pm, as you can see from the invitation above. This invitation arrives in your cabin and can be a special surprise waiting for your child if you want to keep it all a secret.

We were on a 7-night, 8-day cruise with many days at sea. Depending on availability, your best bet is to book the Disney Cruise Royal Court Royal Tea experience on those days at sea when you won’t be in port and possibly roaming an island. That said, days at sea are probably more popular and likely fill up quicker.

We were forced to book on a day when we were in port. This particular day we were in Nassau and had to be back  onboard the ship by 4:45pm. Since we weren’t planning on any port excursions and were just going to walk around the island a bit, we planned on making it back onboard the ship for a light lunch (I say “light” because a little girl didn’t know the Royal Tea was planned and I didn’t want her tummy too full!).

What Happens if there are No Spots Left Before our Cruise Departs?

This actually happened to us. If this happens, on Embarkation Day (the day you initially get onboard the ship), go directly to the Guest Services Desk and ask if they have any spots available. Ask to be put on the waiting list. That’s what we did and were surprised to find a message waiting in our cabin a couple days later – an opening! I imagine it’s common for families to change plans, especially on a port day.

NOTE: If you get an invitation by being on the waiting list, just make sure your child gets an invitation sent to your cabin. We didn’t know about this and saw that all the other girls had them when we headed to the tea. A quick chat with Lady Chamomile and it was remedied real fast!

Disney Cruise Royal Court Royal Tea Lady Chamomile

The Big Day

All the kids and adults met just outside Triton’s restaurant in the lobby. There was a helper there to sprinkle pixie dust in your hair, though my daughter didn’t particularly want to try and get it out later (I can’t blame her).

For our tea day, it was an all-girl affair, though if boys attend there are appropriate gifts for them as well throughout the event. Some girls dressed in princess costumes while others, like my daughter, dressed in simple dress.

Lady Chamomile along with two royal pages introduced each girl as they entered Triton’s and presented each with a crown. Gift number one.

Disney Cruise Royal Court Royal Tea Table Setting

There were six tables in all, each with four place settings and gifts galore! A large blue backdrop with the Royal Court Royal Tea logo on it had been brought into Triton’s to partition off some of the restaurant. It looked beautiful.

There were only two of us, my daughter and I, having left my husband to enjoy some time watching sports (yes, live-streamed). It appeared that we would be sharing a table with another mother-daughter duo.

Two of the chairs had a special friend waiting for us…a unique Cinderella doll. But I quickly spied other gifts adorning the table.

Disney Cruise Royal Court Royal Tea Experience

Look at that smile!

She was beyond excited to meet her new Cinderella doll, who came wearing a special Disney Cruise Royal Court Royal Tea sash. Too cute! The details on this doll are impeccable right down to the piercing blue eyes, gloves and earrings.

Disney Wonder Royal Court Royal Tea Princesses

Wouldn’t you know it, but the real Cinderella showed up too!

She wasn’t the only one. In fact, we were able to enjoy the company of three princesses on the Disney Wonder that afternoon:

Though Princess Tiana was on the ship and found both at the hard-ticket Princess Gathering event and in  Tiana’s restaurant , she didn’t make an appearance during the tea. Too busy with her restaurant is my guess! After all, it wouldn’t be long before the first seating for dinner.

Disney Cruise Royal Court Royal Tea Jewelry Gifts

I mentioned that there were plenty of gifts, all included within the cost of the Royal Court Royal Tea. In addition to the crown and Cinderella doll, two more favorites were the Disney Cruise Royal Court Royal Tea Necklace and matching bracelet.

Both the necklace and bracelet were adorned with charms, some unique to the Disney Cruise and some unique to the event. You’ll spy in the picture above that there is a Disney Cruise charm with pink Mickey head on both. There is also a Cinderella carriage charm and a Royal Court Royal Tea charm on each. The necklace comes with four gem charms, each representing a Disney princess based on color.

The charm bracelet arrived with only the 3 charms mentioned above, but something magical happens during the Royal Tea – the princesses arrive with more gifts! When each princess arrives, they are introduced then leave to greet their guests, followed by one of the royal pages. The royal page has a basket of little fabric gift bags, each one contains a charm to add to the bracelet. So much fun!

Disney Cruise Royal Court Royal Tea Jewelry Box

Of course, where should you keep all this jewelry they have bestowed upon you? In a Disney Cruise princess jewelry box of course. And it’s not just any jewelry box, but a musical one as well.

When you book the Royal Court Royal Tea, you are asked for your child’s favorite princess. This is important because though all the girls received a Cinderella doll, the other gifts (like the jewelry box) and a special cupcake will be based on that favorite princess.

NOTE: If you happen to decide the Royal Court Royal Tea isn’t for you or it happens to be all booked up, you can find this jewelry box in the gift shop onboard. It does make a great souvenir because of the Disney Cruise ship image on the side of the box.

Disney Cruise Royal Court Royal Tea Autograph Book

Also waiting for you at your table is a gorgeous autograph book and princess pen. Exactly what you need when princesses will be visiting your table.

The thick princess-themed autograph book is adorned with jewel images all over the front cover and filled with pages for autographs, special memories (as there are printed questions inside), and photographs too.

NOTE: These are the same autograph books found in Disney Parks, but with the addition of a special Royal Court Royal Tea image attached inside.

Gifts Received

To sum up, the gifts your child receives as part of the event:

  • Cinderella doll with special sash
  • Princess Crown
  • Charm Bracelet (with additional charm brought by each princess)
  • Musical Disney Cruise Princess Jewelry Box
  • Princess Autograph Book
  • Princess Pen
  • …and there’s one more surprise you’ll receive later in your cabin (more details below)

What about Boys?

Boys receive a Royal Court cinch bag, sword and shield, pins, autograph book and Duffy the Disney Bear plush.

Now, let’s talk about FOOD:

Disney Cruise Royal Court Royal Tea Tiered Treats

In addition to several choices of tea for the adults, the girls are served “tea” or shall I say lemonade? Then the food arrives, and it feels almost as if you were part of the “Be Our Guest” scene in “Beauty and the Beast”.

A three-tiered plate featured small finger sandwiches and pastries. Delicious, though I thought it odd that all tables had 4 people, yet there were only 3 of everything on the plates.

Disney Cruise Royal Tea Scones.jpg

Though you’ve just tasted some of the most delightful treats (like mini fruit tartlets and chocolate dipped marshmallows covered with Mickey sprinkles), there’s one more round – Dessert!

A plate of scones arrive for the adults – oh my!

Belle Cupcake aboard the Disney Wonder

For the younger crowd, remember what I said about telling Disney about your child’s favorite princess? Now is the time where that princess will be decorated atop a special cupcake, served in a teacup of course!

My daughter’s favorite princess – Belle!

Disney Cruise Royal Court Royal Tea Princesses

There was so much food, too much to enjoy in such a short amount of time. The time really will go by fast and unlike many teas you may have experienced before, this is a show and it runs on a tight schedule. Songs, princesses arrive, more songs, princesses greet guests, more songs, princesses say farewell, more songs…then one last photo opp.

When it’s over, it’s over. There is no staying around to enjoy the rest of the treats. That did make it hard as there was so much interaction with the princesses and watching the performances, that eating was secondary. That’s really my only complaint as I would have liked for it to have lasted a bit longer, or to at least have been able to enjoy a few moments at the end to finish eating. That said, I know why it didn’t last longer – DINNER was about to be served in that very restaurant.

WARNING: The Royal Court Royal Tea for us was held from 3-4pm. This is really close to the first seating of dinner. So if you are assigned the first seating, this might be a night where you don’t attend the formal dinner, but instead opt for a quick bite at one of the quick service places later in the evening like Pinocchio’s Pizza, Daisy’s de-Lites, or Pete’s Boiler Bites.

Disney Cruise Royal Court Royal Tea

One Last Gift

As for that very last gift, the one that is a surprise? Well, you see, at the very end of the Royal Court Royal Tea, there is a photo opp with all the princesses together. I certainly took my own photos, but there was an official photographer there as well. To be honest, I assumed it was so that people could buy the photos at Shutters, the company who handles all the Disney Cruise photography. I was wrong.

Later in our cabin, we discovered a beautiful black leather folio which opened to reveal an 8×10 of this picture with the princesses and a picture of a Cinderella mosaic next to it. Beautiful and apparently included in the price of the event.

Cost is $210 per child and $69 for each accompanying adult. While not inexpensive, I would count it high among my daughter’s favorite Disney experiences so far!

Tell me, have you ever been on a Disney Cruise? Dreaming of one?

Thanks so much for writing this! I am a travel agent, specializing in Disney Destinations. I just recently sent a client information about the Disney Cruise Line. She expressed that almost everything Disney related she can find is about Disney World, and very little on the Disney Cruise Line.

I absolutely love seeing in depth articles about things you can find on the Disney Cruise Ships. I am so happy you shared this. It will help a lot of people!

Awww, thanks Alison. I have several posts about our time on the Disney Cruises (with our Alaskan adventures coming soon)!

Do you know how many spots there are? And do they offer it every day of the cruise? We are going on our first Disney Cruise in October (4 nights) and I’m worried that all the people who are able to check in and register before us will take all the spots. My girls are so excited about this!

April 13, 2018 at 4:33 pm

All I can tell you is that at some point it does fill up, because we were not able to book it before we departed. That said, as soon as we got onboard the ship, we immediately went and inquired. We were put on a waiting list and there was soon a call waiting for us in our cabin, letting us know that we were indeed able to get one of the spots. I’m assuming someone cancelled when they got onboard.

Going on 1st Disney cruise 6/30/18. It is An 11 day. Will be 8 of us…Gram,Gramps,Dad,Mom and 4 girls 2,5,7,9. With 2 yr. Old turning 3 on cruise. This would be a great birthday event. Do you think Gramps and Dad would be out of place? We are all very excited about the trip.

March 18, 2018 at 9:56 pm

Jane, oh what an exciting trip you have ahead of you! A multi-generational cruise is perfect! Now for the Royal Court Royal Tea, I didn’t spot any men (and we didn’t have my husband join us). There were older girls, moms, and grandmothers for sure. It wasn’t a large group, maybe 8 tables of guests (we shared ours with another mother-daughter duo). Though there weren’t any men, do what feels right for you and your family. It was definitely girly with lots of singing and princesses. If you opt to have them not attend, trust me when I say there will be plenty onboard to keep them occupied. My husband spent a few moments down in the pub watching some college football.

' src=

March 4, 2018 at 8:31 am

My mother-in-law booked this for our upcoming trip. When do you tell them your daughter’s favorite princess?

March 5, 2018 at 10:53 pm

Oooh, very good question. For us it might have been different. Since it had been sold out before we departed, we had asked as soon as we boarded to be put on a waiting list. When we got the call there was space available and connected with them, we were asked. I’m wondering if when you book the tea if you aren’t asked then. Disney will take care of you, no doubt about that.

' src=

October 20, 2017 at 4:04 pm

So I would really love to take my daughter on this on our next cruise. But I am wondering, if more than one adult can go? My Dad, her grandfather, and her are very close and he would love to go as well. Are men allowed? Thanks!

October 20, 2017 at 7:29 pm

Thanks Stephanie. Yes, more than 1 adult could go, for an additional cost each. Currently the price (OCT 2017) is at $210 per child and $69 per adult). There seem to be no restrictions on gender, as there are special gifts that are slightly different if boys are attending. For your question about adult men, there weren’t any men attending our tea party, as it was mostly a mom/daughter or grandmother/granddaughter event, but I can’t imagine Disney would have any problem if everyone wanted to go.

' src=

January 16, 2018 at 6:00 am

Adults only?

April 7, 2018 at 4:58 pm

Great question Marisa. While during our time there, we only saw children with parents and grandparents, I can’t imagine Disney would turn you away if adults only wanted to participate. It is geared towards children though.

' src=

September 22, 2017 at 3:30 pm

Thank you so much for the information. I am so happy the Royal Court Tea Party is now offered on the Disney Wonder. This will be our 3rd cruise on Disney Wonder and head out on our adventure Oct. 1, 2017. I booked the Tea Party as soon as it was available. My daughter is 8 and is excited to finally have this experience available on the Disney Wonder. Thank you for the pictures and what to expect for her. It looks amazing and a grand experience. I didn’t see where they asked about the favorite princess. Should I just ask about it once I arrive on the ship?

September 22, 2017 at 4:49 pm

Marie, I’m so excited for you. It will be an incredible adventure! Yes, I would ask about it once on the ship. I’m sure they have enough supply for all, so I wouldn’t worry too much about it. Have fun!

We did this on the Fantasy in November. My 9 year old daughter absolutely LOVED it! She wants to do it again on our next cruise. I don’t know if I will pay for it again, but it was definitely worth it at least one time. It was such a great Mommy daughter time.

February 7, 2017 at 4:26 pm

I agree Tammi, once you’ve experienced it one time, I likely wouldn’t do it again because a big chunk of the cost is for all the gifts received. The gifts don’t change over time. There are many other Disney experiences for next time 🙂

What a beautiful experience your daughter had! I would love to take my 2 granddaughters (sisters) to the Royal Court Royal Tea. The younger one adores Belle too while her big sister’s favorite is Snow White. Thanks for all the info and your great photos.

A review of the Royal Court Royal Tea

Why I Won’t Do The Royal Court Royal Tea Again On Disney Cruise Line

Are you considering splurging on the Royal Court Tea for your children on a Disney Cruise? Consider this before signing up for this expensive experience.

It is a tale as old as time; parents love to surprise their kids with special activities only to find out they did not meet expectations. We experienced this during our recent cruise on Disney Cruise Line aboard the Disney Magic when we signed our daughter up for the Royal Court Royal Tea. It ended up being a royal disappointment.

 Royal Court Royal Tea Review

Many of you may think,  “I just don’t see how a world that makes such wonderful things could be bad.”  While it may be true Disney exceeds in creating magical experiences, this one fell way short of the standard I was expecting.

What The Royal Court Tea Costs

In the words of Ursula, “Here’s the Deal.” The Royal Court Royal Tea costs $220 per child and $69 per adult. That’s right, angelfish; if you want to have tea with your child, you must pay a heavy price tag. Parents have no way around this excessive fee because kids have to have a chaperone.

The Royal Tea lasts approximately one hour and is for children between 3 and 12. All adults must be accompanied by a child as this is a child-focus experience.

Budget Tip:  If you choose to do the Royal Court Royal Tea Party, only have one adult attend. The children are placed at the end of the table so only one parent can sit next to them. Another family is sitting across from you.

What Is Included With The Tea

After seeing that price tag, you would expect to sit down with Belle herself while the dishes brought out your tea. On the contrary, guests will be lucky to spend two minutes with each princess as they hastily make their way from table to table.

Here is what you get:

  • Your little princess or prince will get an abundance of souvenirs waiting at their spot when you arrive. These gifts include a purse, a charm bracelet and two charms, a Cinderella doll, Minnie Mouse Ears, and an autograph book and pen. Boys will get an Olaf Plush or stuffed bear, an autograph book, a cinch bag, and a sword and shield.
  •  You will get a souvenir photo of your child with all the princesses delivered to your stateroom.
  •  There is a three-tiered assortment of royal treats, including finger sandwiches and sweet treats.
  •  There is a little show with songs and dance. Later, scones for adults and a cupcake for the kids come out.
  •  Adults only get tea and goodies from the three-tiered tray. Where are my Minnie Ears??

What To Expect At The Royal Court Tea

Arriving at the tea.

The Royal Tea Party begins with everyone gathered outside of the dining room. Lady Chamomile comes out with a brief musical intro and invites the guests into the Royal Tea. Lady Chamomile is the Royal Tea Hostess that is there to help make this a magical experience.

At the hostess stand, they confirm your reservation and announce your prince or princess by name. Escorts show you to your table, which is shared with another family. The children are placed at the end of the table opposite each other so the princesses can greet them later.

Note:  I read somewhere that the children got crowns upon arrival. This did not happen at our tea, but maybe it does onboard one of the other ships like the Disney Wonder or the Disney Fantasy.

Gifts at the Royal Tea

Once at the table, the children will find their name tags and gifts. Many gifts we could have done without. The Cinderella doll (I would have preferred to pick the princess we got), and the autograph book (which I could have snagged cheaper on Amazon!) I would rather have had a more affordable price tag on the tea than the cheap bracelet that broke hours later.

NOTE : The princesses did not give my child any additional charms for the charm bracelet. Everything was already in the purse in tiny mesh bags.

Personal Opinion

Disney Magic picked the dullest dining room to host a Royal Tea. It is at Lumineer’s, which leaves a lot to be desired. The tea did not feature any special linens, napkins, etc. The children did get a polka dot tea cup at their place setting, but it was only for the tea, not a souvenir.

Once everyone is seated, Lady Chamomile and the Royal Pastry Chef, Chef Brulee, come out with a performance of “Be Our Guest”. Each princess makes her grand arrival one at a time for the tea.

Meet the princesses briefly

Three favorite Disney princesses make an appearance at the tea. Typically they are Cinderella, Belle, and Ariel. On occasion, you may see Tiana or another princess, but it is that classic trio for the most part.

What Is Served At The Disney Royal Court Royal Tea

During part of the song and dance between Lady Chamomile and the Chef, tea is brought out by the waitstaff. Kids are served apple juice while the adults get hot tea.

A three-tiered tray of culinary delights is brought out for the guests at the table to share. The trays had tea sandwiches and pastries, but there is not an abundance of food. Later into the tea, scones are offered for the adult and a cupcake for the kids.

The three-tiered tea tray at the Royal Court Royal Tea

I need to be brutally honest for a second and state that throughout the whole performance, the Royal Pastry Chef is hyping up his “special” dessert. The special dessert is a cupcake with a chocolate topper of their favorite princess. I have seen better-looking cupcakes in our local grocery store than what was served at this tea.

The "Special" Dessert

You are asked before the tea what princess your child would like on their cupcake. The princesses do not bring the cupcakes through; the waitstaff does.

Planning Tip:  “Try the gray stuff; it’s delicious,” which I would have if there were enough for the whole table. Don’t come with the expectation that you will be eating lunch here. The tiers consist mainly of a handful of sweet pastries, with the bottom layer being small sandwiches.

The Big Moment: Greeting The Princesses

This is the moment when the dream that your child has wished for finally comes true! Each princess will come around to each table to greet their guests. When they arrive, kids can ask them for their autograph in their new autograph book.

Getting autographs at the Royal Court Royal Tea

Each princess spends roughly 3-4 minutes at each table max, spending two minutes per child. Kids will get the opportunity to see them again briefly for their photo at the end of the tea.

Personal Opinion:  You get more quality time with princesses at the character greetings and the Royal Gathering. If you thought a princess would be sitting down for tea with you, keep on believing because maybe someday that wish will come true, but not today.

A Picture Perfect Ending

The Royal Court Tea is an hour long, then the clock strikes midnight, and everyone has to leave. Tables are escorted to get their picture taken with all the princesses. Then later, a framed photo of your time at the Royal Tea is delivered to your stateroom. The photograph made the perfect souvenir which is now proudly displayed in my daughter’s bedroom.

What My 5-Year-Old Daughter Thought Of The Royal Court Royal Tea

As a parent, it can be hard to see things through the lens of a child. I needed to be sprinkled with a lot more pixie dust to see the magic in this royal tea experience. However, upon asking my daughter if she enjoyed it, she indicated that she did, but it wasn’t her favorite thing we did on the cruise. Experiences that ranked higher were the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique and the Kids Club.

Royal Court Royal Tea onboard Disney Cruise Line

The show with Lady Chamomile and the Royal Pastry Chef bored her. Doodling in her autograph book, she would look up only when a princess made her arrival. Her favorite part of the tea: Eating all the desserts.

What To Wear To The Royal Court Royal Tea On Disney Cruise Line

The Royal Tea is a special experience for all your family’s little princesses and princes. Therefore, many of the children come dressed in their dresses or costumes. I recommend visiting the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique before the tea so that your little princess looks her best.

What to wear for the Royal Court Royal Tea

Parents, there is no official dress code for the Royal Court Tea. Business casual is the dress code I recommend going with. Many of the ladies were wearing sundresses or pants with a nice blouse. Men were in collared shirts with nice shorts or pants.

Ultimately You Have To Decide What Is Best For Your Family

The Royal Court Royal Tea is ultimately a little girl’s dream come true. Dressing up in their fanciest attire, they feast on delectable desserts, get a distinguished assortment of gifts, and be entertained by popular Disney Princesses. Even though this royal high tea is expensive, many families may feel it is worth the splurge for their children.

The Royal Court Royal Tea will take a picture that you will get in your stateroom later.

The Royal Court Royal Tea is perfect for kids who would appreciate and adore meeting the princesses and feeling like a royal guest at the tea. It would make an ideal mother-daughter experience, and we even saw quite of few grandmothers there as well. In the end, you know your children best.

In my personal opinion, I thought the princess tea was not worth the money. Had the tea been half the price, I would say yes, but to pay nearly $300 for two people, it is a hard pass for the future.

It should come as no surprise that this exclusive experience books up quickly. Often the Royal Court Royal Tea isn’t offered to first-time cruisers as all the slots are full when their booking window opens. *The number of times you have sailed with Disney will indicate when you can book a special onboard experience.

A GREAT ALTERNATIVE TO THE ROYAL TEA

Schedule your FREE  Royal Gathering  experience to meet and greet the princesses. Your child will get more one-on-one attention at the Royal Gathering than at the Royal Tea. Many families will walk by this princess gathering, thinking it is open to the public, only to find out they need a reservation. Make your reservation as soon as your booking window opens to secure a spot.

Once your Royal Gathering is on the books, get an appointment at the Bippiti Boppiti Boutique for your tiny princess. I would make the appointment for the boutique before they go to the Royal Gathering or schedule it the evening prior.

The Royal Gathering is a FREE event where guests reserve a time slot to meet the princesses.

Transforming into a glamourous princess at the Bippiti Boppiti Boutique was one of my daughter’s most memorable experiences. Having the opportunity to be pampered, choose her fancy hairstyle, and be treated like a princess by her fairy godmother in training was all she needed. We did the cheapest package at $99, and the hairstyle lasted two days!

Order room service and have a tea party in your stateroom. Another alternative is go to Cabanas to get a bunch of desserts to bring back to your stateroom.

Planning Tip:  The Royal Gathering and Bibbiti Boppiti Boutique are both experiences you will want to book before sailing. You can reserve them through your Disney Cruise Account.

4 Expensive Disney Cruise Options That Are Worth the Cost (and One That Isn’t)

T aking a Disney  cruise  lets you be the prince or princess of a Disney story. Everything from your meals to onboard entertainment is taken care of, leaving you free to explore everything the ship offers.

Find Out:  How To Get $340 Per Year in Cash Back on Things You Already Buy

Understanding  what’s included  in your package can help you decide where it might be worth splashing out a bit more cash for an even more enchanting experience.

While every Disney cruise comes with its share of pixie dust, some experiences are so spectacular they justify the extra investment. From princess makeovers to adult-only fine dining, prioritizing the right upgrades can elevate your cruise from memorable to once-in-a-lifetime.

Magical Makeovers at Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique/Pirate’s League

The  Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique  offers an opportunity for your children to transform into their favorite characters, whether that’s a prince, princess or pirate. Since you likely chose a Disney cruise for the unique Disney experience or because you or your children are fans of a character or two, it makes sense to take part in this one-of-a-kind makeover option.

Princess makeovers range from $100 to $450, with the basic “Deluxe Carriage Package” including hairstyling, shimmering makeup and face gem, princess sash and cinch sack, nail polish, and t-shirt. Pricier packages also include princess gowns, accessories, tiaras, and more. To give your princess a special experience at a lower cost, you could pack a princess dress rather than paying for the more expensive package that includes one.

For those who would like to become knights or captains, you can select a package that includes a costume, sack or backpack, hairstyling and gel, confetti, and either a sword and shield or a captain’s hat and an autograph book. These packages cost $100 for the knight and $120 for the captain. Pirate makeovers are available on special Pirate Party nights.

Beer Mug or Drink of the Day Savings Package

Although Disney Cruise Line doesn’t offer an all-inclusive alcohol drink package, they do have alternatives that could be a good value if you plan to drink on your cruise. You can purchase a $17 souvenir glass beer mug that allows you to buy 21 oz of draught beer or hard cider for the price of a 16 oz beer or hard cider. This will pay for itself if you have more than around a half-dozen drinks, and you get a nifty keepsake that you can use on future cruises.

There is also an option to purchase a Drink of the Day cocktail souvenir cup that you may refill at a discounted price (and drinks of the day are already discounted). You can use these cups for drink discounts at Disney Castaway Cay as well, so don’t forget to pack your cup when you go ashore. Speaking of going ashore…

Port Adventures

A big part of cruising is going ashore during the port stops along the way. You may want to upgrade your trip by opting for  port adventure packages . These packages can include equipment rentals like bicycles, snorkels, and water tubes. They may also include cultural experiences, sightseeing, or even nature experiences like swimming with dolphins.

Booking your port adventures through Disney also offers the convenience of pre-set pricing, saving you the hassle of haggling or currency exchange. Not all the experiences are super expensive, and even splurging on a mid-range adventure will be a memorable upgrade to your cruise that reduces stress during port days.

Adult-Exclusive Dining

Every Disney Cruise ship offers dining options for adults only, so you can have a peaceful date night with your spouse while sailing. These dining options are only available for people 18 and older. The restaurant options include (depending on your ship) Palo, Palo Steakhouse, Remy, and Enchante.

After recent price increases in 2023, brunch and dinner at Palo and Palo Steakhouse will cost $50 per person for a fixed menu. Base dinner prices at Remy and Enchante are $135 per person. A la carte options are available for an 18% charge on top of the price of each item. While these meals are fairly pricey, especially considering other meals in the Dining Room are included in your ticket cost, you can’t put a dollar amount on an amazing adult-only date night.

Skip This Upgrade: Royal Court Royal Tea

One upgrade option you may have heard about is the Royal Court Royal Tea. While it’s a charming idea, especially for fans of Disney princesses, the cost is steep at $220 per child and $69 per adult.

While the description makes the Royal Tea sound charming, attendees have found it an expensive disappointment. Although it’s a popular add-on, popularity isn’t always synonymous with value. Besides, there is a completely free Princess Gathering where you can meet and greet your favorite Disney Princesses.

12 Things You Need to Know About Disney’s Perfectly Princess Tea

disney cruise princess tea

Disney’s Perfectly Princess Tea is an extremely premium event for all of the little princesses out there that visit Walt Disney World.  If you want an immersive princess experience for your little one, then this is definitely it!  Here are the 12 things that you must know about Disney’s Perfectly Princess Tea:

12 – The location for the event.

The event takes place at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa at the Garden View Tea Room, which just happens to be located on the ground level of the main building resort. It is just off of the main lobby.

11 – When the event is offered.

This particular tea event is only offered in the morning on select days of the week. The typical days are usually Saturdays, Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. These are subject to change depending on different events that may occur at the resort.

10 – You can make reservations 180 days in advance.

It is a good idea to make your reservations as early as possible so that you know you get the date that you are looking for. You will need to be prepared to pay the full cost of the admission at the time of booking since it will be 100% due to hold your reservation.

9 – The event is on the pricey side.

The base price for the event is $333.64, which includes admission for one child aged 3 to 9 and one adult. If you need to add additional guests to your reservation, then you will pay an additional $234.08 for each child (ages 3 to 9) and $98.66 for each guest (10+). If adults are guests 10 and older want to get the unique gifts and some of the same treatment during the event, you can pay the difference so that they are included.

8 – Guests are encouraged to dress up for the event.

The little princesses and princes are encouraged to wear their favorite princess or prince costume during the event to celebrate their tea party with Princess Aurora. It is a lot of fun and a great excuse to dress up. Some of the guests even get their hair done at Ivy Trellis Salon at the resort before they go to the event for the ultimate princess experience.

7 – Each little guest is announced into the event.

After check-in, the little guests are lined up and announced by name, one by one. Once they get up to the host, they are crowned with a tiara and then pose for pictures with the host, Rose Petal. It is a grand experience for all of the guests attending the tea.

6 – Princess Aurora is there.

If you are a fan of Princess Aurora, then you have come to the right place.  She is the only character in attendance, besides the hostess, Rose Petal.  Princess Aurora will meet and greet with guests as well as take pictures with them to commemorate the experience at the event.

5 – The little princesses receive gifts while at the tea.

There are a variety of gifts that are given to each of the young princesses that are attending the event:

  • A special 18-inch Princess Aurora doll dressed in a gown plus accessories
  • A princess tiara
  • A silver princess bracelet
  • A princess necklace
  • A fresh rose
  • A special princess sticker page “Best Friend” certificate for their new Princess Aurora doll
  • A princess cinch bag

4 – There are also gifts for princes.

If there are little princes that are attending the event, they will receive gifts that include:

  • A souvenir pin
  • A plush Disney bear
  • A “Best Friend” certificate

3 – For really young children, you can opt whether to pay for them to attend.

If you have a child under three, you can decide if you want to pay for them to attend or not. In order for them to receive all of the gifts, you must pay the admission for them; otherwise, they won’t receive the gifts and will share your finger foods and juice. If you want them to receive the gifts, then you have to pay the full cost of admission. The dolls are typically substituted with bears instead for the younger guests since the dolls are only age rated for guests that are 3 or older.

2 – The food and “tea” that is served are light finger foods.

This is definitely not an event that you want to come starving to. The food that is included is only finger foods. There are little finger, sandwiches, grapes, cheeses, etc. There isn’t a ton of it either since it is brought to the table, so it really isn’t enough for a full meal. The little guests are service apple juice in a teapot as their “tea,” and older guests will be able to get real teas. There is a strawberry shortcake type of dessert as well, which is delicious!

1 – There are no PhotoPass photographers for the character encounters.

At the end of the event, there is one PhotoPass photographer event. It doesn’t involve Princess Aurora or Rose Petal. During the encounters with both of those two, you will have to be prepared to take your own pictures, so be sure to have your cameras ready.
