end of a journey lyrics

Could we lose each other Even when we're worlds apart I can close my eyes I see you standing there now Feel you holding you when I'm Not strong enough to try The end of a journey Back in your arms again There's no place I'd rather be Than right here by your side The end of a journey Here in your arms tonight You'll reach out to hold me now Like you'll never let go Please don't ever let go You made me believe it's true now Wherever we are or how far Wanna see you in my dreams When that feeling lifts me up Each and every time we touch I wanna give myself to you The end of a journey Back in your arms again There's no place I'd rather be Than right here by your side The end of a journey Back in your arms tonight You'll reach out to hold me now Like you'll never let go Please don't ever let go I believe it's forever - hold me now, Make this moment last Till the end of time The end of a journey I'm back in your arms again There's no place I'd rather be Than right here by your side The end of a journey Here in your arms tonight Just reach out to hold me now Like you'll never let go Please don't ever let go Don't let go

Jennifer Rush – The End Of A Journey lyrics

There are times I can visualise Lonely nights without you in my life Took a long time to see want to make you believe our love will survive The last day of summer Sitting here now I see the pouring rain Just a thought of you Makes me wonder again How I've opened my heart And can promise to be Faithfully yours finally I believe I surrender From the mountains of faith Through the rivers of tears I believe and I surrender Even though I don't know what the future might hold As our fate unfolds now I will not let go our love will survive The last day of summer I remember how it used to be Was a miracle you understood but still Had to break down those walls That kept me from a dream That's all come true because of you I believe I surrender From the mountains of faith Through the rivers of tears I believe and I surrender Even though I don't know what the future might hold As our fate unfolds now I will not let go our love will survive I believe I surrender From the mountains of faith Through the rivers of tears I believe and I surrender Even though I don't know what the future might hold As our fate unfolds now I will never let go our love will survive the last day of summer, the last day of summer, the last day of summer

He'll Understand and Say Well Done

end of a journey lyrics

If when you give the best of your service

Representative text.

1 If when you give the best of your service, Telling the world that the Savior is come; Be not dismayed when men don't believe you; He'll understand; and say, "Well done."

Refrain: Oh, when I come to the end of my journey, Weary of life and the battle is won; Carrying the staff and the cross of redemption, He'll understand and say, "Well done."

2 Misunderstood, the Savior of sinners, Hung on the cross; He was God's only Son; Oh! hear Him call His Father in Heav'n, "Not my will, but Thine be done." [Refrain]

3 If when this life of labor is ended, And the reward of the race you have run; Oh! the sweet rest prepared for faithful Will be His blest and final, "Well done." [Refrain]

Songs About The End Of Something

As human beings, we often experience endings in various aspects of our lives. Whether it’s the end of a relationship, the end of a chapter, or the end of a journey, endings can be both painful and liberating. Throughout history, artists have captured the complex emotions that come with endings through music. In this article, we will explore songs about the end of something, with nine examples that beautifully capture the essence of saying goodbye.

1. “Closing Time” by Semisonic (1998)

Arguably one of the most iconic songs about endings, “Closing Time” by Semisonic is a bittersweet anthem that speaks to the closing of a chapter in one’s life. Written by lead singer Dan Wilson, the song became a hit in the late 90s and continues to resonate with listeners today. With lyrics like “Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end,” the song beautifully captures the cyclical nature of endings and new beginnings.

2. “The End” by The Doors (1967)

Released on their self-titled debut album, “The End” by The Doors is a haunting and psychedelic track that delves into themes of death and rebirth. With its eerie organ riff and Jim Morrison’s mesmerizing vocals, the song takes listeners on a journey through the darkness of endings and the promise of new beginnings. The epic length of the song (over 11 minutes) only adds to its impact, making it a standout in The Doors’ discography.

3. “End of the Road” by Boyz II Men (1992)

A classic R&B ballad, “End of the Road” by Boyz II Men is a heartbreaking ode to the end of a romantic relationship. Released in 1992, the song spent a record-breaking 13 weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. With its soulful harmonies and poignant lyrics, “End of the Road” perfectly captures the pain and longing that comes with saying goodbye to someone you love.

4. “The End of the World” by Skeeter Davis (1962)

Originally released in 1962, “The End of the World” by Skeeter Davis is a timeless country ballad that explores the aftermath of a breakup. With its melancholic melody and Davis’s emotive vocals, the song conveys the emptiness and despair that can accompany the end of a relationship. Despite its somber subject matter, “The End of the World” remains a beloved classic that continues to resonate with listeners.

5. “End of the Line” by Traveling Wilburys (1988)

A supergroup consisting of Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, Roy Orbison, and Tom Petty, the Traveling Wilburys released “End of the Line” in 1988 as part of their debut album. The song’s upbeat tempo and catchy chorus belie its poignant message about the inevitability of endings. With lyrics like “Well it’s all right, even if you’re old and gray,” the song reminds listeners that endings are a natural part of life’s journey.

6. “End Game” by Taylor Swift ft. Ed Sheeran and Future (2017)

From her album “Reputation,” “End Game” by Taylor Swift features collaborations with Ed Sheeran and Future. The song explores themes of redemption and growth in the face of endings, with Swift singing about moving on from past mistakes and embracing a brighter future. With its infectious beat and empowering lyrics, “End Game” is a catchy anthem for anyone going through a period of transition in their lives.

7. “The End of the Innocence” by Don Henley (1989)

Written by Don Henley and Bruce Hornsby, “The End of the Innocence” is a reflective ballad that delves into the loss of innocence that often comes with the end of childhood. Released in 1989 as the title track of Henley’s third solo album, the song features poignant lyrics and a haunting melody that capture the complexities of growing up and facing the harsh realities of the world. With its timeless message, “The End of the Innocence” remains a powerful reminder of the passage of time.

8. “The End” by Linkin Park (2017)

One of the final songs recorded by Linkin Park before lead singer Chester Bennington’s tragic passing in 2017, “The End” is a haunting and introspective track that explores themes of mortality and acceptance. With its raw vocals and atmospheric production, the song serves as a poignant reminder of the band’s legacy and the enduring impact of their music. “The End” stands as a testament to the power of art to transcend endings and connect us to something greater than ourselves.

9. “Ends of the Earth” by Lord Huron (2012)

From their debut album “Lonesome Dreams,” “Ends of the Earth” by Lord Huron is a cinematic folk-rock anthem that speaks to the idea of going to the ends of the earth for someone you love. With its sweeping melodies and evocative lyrics, the song conjures images of vast landscapes and epic journeys, capturing the sense of adventure and sacrifice that often accompanies endings. “Ends of the Earth” is a powerful reminder of the lengths we will go to for the ones we hold dear.

In conclusion, songs about the end of something have the power to evoke a wide range of emotions and experiences. Whether it’s the end of a relationship, the end of a chapter, or the end of a journey, music has the ability to capture the complexities of saying goodbye and moving forward. The nine songs highlighted in this article each offer a unique perspective on endings, from the bittersweet nostalgia of “Closing Time” to the haunting introspection of “The End” by Linkin Park. Share this quote with someone who persevered through a tough educational challenge.

2. “It has always seemed strange to me that in our endless discussions about education so little stress is laid on the pleasure of becoming an educated person, the enormous interest it adds to life. To be able to be caught up into the world of thought – that is to be educated.” – Edith Hamilton

Perhaps the graduate may not feel the “pleasure of becoming an educated person” so soon after graduation.

3. “You are educated. Your certification is in your degree. You may think of it as the ticket to the good life. Let me ask you to think of an alternative. Think of it as your ticket to change the world.” – Tom Brokaw

Sometimes the best part about ending a phase of life is looking forward to the next one.

4. “Instruction ends in the schoolroom, but education ends only with life.” – Frederick W. Robertson

Sometimes the most important lessons are learned outside the classroom.

Some count the days until retirement, and others look at it with trepidation. Here are quotes that describe both types of outlooks.

5. “At every point in the human journey we find that we have to let go in order to move forward; and letting go means dying a little. In the process we are being created anew, awakened afresh to the source of our being.” – Kathleen R. Fischer

Surprisingly, you may find it hard to let go of your job. So here are some words of encouragement for those who face retirement with trepidation.

6. “Getting something done is an accomplishment; getting something done right is an achievement.” – Unknown

As you reflect on your career and look forward to your future endeavors, remember that WHO you are is just as important as what you have accomplished (or will accomplish.)

There are a lot of quotes about embarking on a trip or adventure. However, few can describe the bittersweet end of a journey. So, here are some end-of-a-journey quotes that may help explain how you feel.

8. “Each difficult moment has the potential to open my eyes and open my heart.” – Myla Kabat-Zinn

Sometimes trips are difficult and painful. This quote describes how to look on the bright side of such experiences.

You've likely seen this quote on Instagram posts or used by travel bloggers. Yes, this quote is overused. However, it may perfectly describe your love of adventure.

10. “I am not the same, having seen the moon shine on the other side of the world.” – Mary Anne Radmacher

We love this quote! International travel – especially to countries significantly different from yours – can irrevocably change you.

11. “Travel isn’t always pretty. It isn’t always comfortable. Sometimes it hurts, it even breaks your heart. But that’s okay. The journey changes you; it should change you. It leaves marks on your memory, on your consciousness, on your heart, and on your body. You take something with you. Hopefully, you leave something good behind.” – Anthony Bourdain

We have all had that painful travel experience. Hopefully, yours changed you for the better.

12. “Two roads diverged in a wood, and I – I took the one less traveled by” — Robert Frost

This quote is from Robert Frost’s famous poem “The Road Not Traveled.” It’s often used at graduations but could work for any journey.

13. “A ship in harbor is safe, but that is not what ships are built for.” – John A. Shedd

Please accept our condolences if you recently lost a loved one. You may be looking for quotes about death for the funeral slideshow or service, so here are some to consider.

Turn to Cake’s blog for additional help. These quotes might tell you if your loved one traveled a difficult road. And, of course, you might need help writing the eulogy for the service.

14. “It is the will of God and Nature that these mortal bodies be laid aside, when the soul is to enter into real life; ’tis rather an embryo state, a preparation for living; a man is not completely born until he be dead: Why then should we grieve that a new child is born among the immortals?” – Benjamin Franklin

This quote is perfect for someone who needs reassurance that their loved one is enjoying the afterlife.

15. “There are things that we don’t want to happen but have to accept, things we don’t want to know but have to learn, and people we can’t live without but have to let go.” – Unknown

Some end-of-journey quotes focus on the deceased, while this encourages those left behind.

16. “For death is no more than a turning of us over from time to eternity.” – William Penn

Here’s another quote about continuing life’s journey after death.

17. “When he shall die/ Take him and cut him out in little stars/ And he will make the face of heav’n so fine/ That all the world will be in love with night/ And pay no worship to the garish sun.” – William Shakespeare

Sylvia Browne wrote these reassuring words in the Journal of Love & Healing.

19. “There is a land of the living and a land of the dead and the bridge is love, the only survival, the only meaning.” – Thornton Wilder

Thornton Wilder was an American playwright, most famous for his work “Our Town.”

20. “Death is nothing at all,/ I have only slipped into the next room/ I am I and you are you/ whatever we were to each other, that we are still.” – Henry Scott Holland

These beautiful lines open Henry Scott Holland’s poem “All Is Well.” You may consider using this piece during your loved one’s service or funeral slideshow.

21. “Your body is away from me/ but there is a window open/ from my heart to yours./ From this window, like the moon/ I keep sending news secretly.” – Rumi

Can poems be considered quotes? We think so. This short piece is “The Window” by Rumi. Readers will be comforted by the idea that their loved one is on the ultimate journey.

22. “The journey doesn’t end here. Death is just another path, one that we all must take” – J.R.R. Tolkien

This is the second quote by Tolkien on our list.

23. “For life and death are one, even as the river and the sea are one” – Khalil Gibran

Khalil Gibran is the author of “The Prophet.”

24. “Only a moment you stayed, but what an imprint your footprints have left on our hearts” – Dorothy Ferguson

Are you saying goodbye to someone who wasn’t long on this Earth? Here is a quote to describe how you feel about your loved one’s passing.

25. “Perhaps passing through the gates of death is like passing quietly through the gate in a pasture fence. On the other side, you keep walking, without the need to look back. No shock, no drama, just the lifting of a plank or two in a simple wooden gate in a clearing. Neither pain, nor floods of light, nor great voices, but just the silent crossing of a meadow” – Mark Helprin

This quote could also offer great comfort to someone suffering a loss.

26. “Goodbyes are only for those who love with their eyes. Because for those who love with heart and soul there is no such thing as separation” – Rumi

This quote could be used for many different purposes – for someone retiring, moving, – or for someone who passed.

The End? Or a New Beginning?

We hope these quotes offer comfort and peace to those of you who are facing a significant transition. You may also look for poems or songs about journeys and change. Even if these words are no comfort, you may feel some solace knowing that others have faced similar difficulties.

End Of My Journey Lyrics

Lord You know that I've been bad So there's no use in lying to myself Heavenly Father please forgive me I really don't want to disown myself Chorus Oh when I come to the end of my journey Weary of life, the battle is won Carry myself, the cross of redemption We'll understand it, better by and by Lord sometimes I feel like Samson You know the world has so many Delilah's Almighty God give me just a little more time To right all the wrong that I have done Chorus Oh when I come to the end of my journey Weary of life, the battle is won Carry myself, the cross of redemption We'll understand it, better by and by We'll understand it, better by and by Repeat chorus

Amar Singh Chamkila Is A Gritty Story Of An Iconic Singer

Amar Singh Chamkila Is A Gritty Story Of An Iconic Singer

India is known for its musical movies, usually filled with drama and romance. What makes Amar Singh Chamkila different, why it has so much depth and poignancy, is that it is based on the true story of the late Punjabi rock star.

I enjoyed that the film is movie-musical, with singing from the beginning, and I can see this being brought to the stage. Through the music you get a feel for Chamkila himself, and why his art was so different, forward-thinking, inspiring, and hated in his religion and culture.

The story follows the humble singer’s career, how his brash lyrics ignited fame and fury across Punjab, and how he managed soaring success and extreme criticism before his tragic and untimely death. Amar Singh Chamkila, his wife Amarjot Kaur, and the members of their musical band were assassinated on March 8, 1988.

Amar Singh Chamkila Review

Amar Singh Chamkila | Image via Netflix

Parineeti Chopra plays the character of Amarjot, and Diljit plays Chamkila. Both excel in their roles with utterly compelling performances.

Amar Singh Chamkila chronicles the life of Chamkila, who offered a commentary through music on illicit relationships, alcohol, dowry, domestic violence, and drug abuse in a feudal society. For this, he was not well-liked and appreciated. Along with exploring his music, the film reflects the social undercurrents of the border state where farmer, soldier, and driver have been principal occupations over centuries.

The cinematography is stunning. There is an excellent range of locations, colors, and shooting styles. With the upbeat music, drumming sections, and soulful singers, each scene is a small artistic masterpiece. One moment you’re listening intently, then wanting to dance around your room.

Amar Singh Chamkila Review

The film has a great mix of intense drama and frivolous fun. There are sections like pages from a comic book, which adds a little comedy and pushes scenes and time along cleverly.

Towards the end of the film , the focus is on why Chamkila is targeted out of all other artists doing similar work and opens the door to the many conspiracy theories surrounding his brutal death.

Amar Singh Chamkila is, overall, very emotional and moving; to watch someone live through oppression and opposition, but still be determined and full of hope, is humbling. What a shame he was targeted and killed for his art.

Singer-songwriter Maggie Rose's new album celebrates her resiliency and creative spirit

Veteran nashville artist maggie rose's big loud-released album "no one gets out alive" celebrates the resiliency of her soulful, creative artistry..

end of a journey lyrics

"I'm not an overnight sensation after 16 years."

Veteran Nashville artist Maggie Rose is equally frank and funny when discussing her latest album, "No One Gets Out Alive," with The Tennessean at East Nashville's Urban Cowboy Hotel.

Though the album has been completed for nearly a year, she's still surprised at the new home label that's releasing her 12-track collection: Big Loud Records.

Yes, the same label that is home to multibillion-streaming contemporary country singer-songwriters like ERNEST, HARDY and Morgan Wallen is also releasing a collection of piano and guitar-driven pop songs that don't pale in the face of the classic Brill Building to Laurel Canyon-era American songbooks.

Republic Records distributes Big Loud's recordings. This is the same Republic Records that distributes multibillion-dollar revenue generator Taylor Swift, plus pop superstars Ariana Grande, Drake and the Weeknd.

Via Republic's success, Big Loud now has the capital to grow from a solely country and rock-defined imprint to a label capable of releasing singer-songwriters like Charles Wesley Godwin and Stephen Wilson Jr. , making what label executive Nate Yetton told Billboard in October is "art that transcends genre and will be playing at dinner parties and on stages across the globe."

Acclaim and an identity crisis

Releasing music strong enough to bear the weight of its artistic bravery and the criticism it receives in equal measure wasn't always so simple for Rose.

She arrived in Nashville as a soul-stirring, East Coast-born, 21-year-old ingenue co-signed by producer James Stroud. Stroud is a pop creator with country success who counts Swift among the artists with whom he has worked.

Notable record executives Tommy Mottola and Narvel Blackstock are included in her journey over the past two decades, which includes releasing a new album, EP or single — independently or via a label — roughly every 18 months.

The gambit's success allowed her to make over 100 Grand Ole Opry appearances and earn enough critical acclaim to maintain a frequent and lucrative touring schedule.

However, COVID-19 proved a near-fatal flaw in her piecemeal strategy for maintaining a thriving career.

"I went from being an artist who stayed out on the road to one whose full run of 60 shows got canceled overnight," Rose says. "The identity crisis that followed forced me to take a lonely journey to write super-personal songs to rediscover how to trust myself and my artistry."

An album as a catharsis

Luckily for Rose, Nashville's past two decades have filtered out a group of creators, singers and songwriters whose renown exists oftentimes within but without the full involvement of the mainstream country system.

Thus, a seeming hodge-podge of Grammy-winning talent was commissioned for this album. This included producer Ben Tanner (Alabama Shakes), country songwriter Natalie Hemby, fellow Grammy winners Chuck Harmony and Claude Kelly (Weirdo Workshop's Louis York), and Pat McLaughlin (John Prine's "I Remember Everything"), plus members of Jason Isbell's 400 Unit (guitarist Sadler Vaden and drummer Chad Gamble) and bassist Zac Cockrell (Alabama Shakes).

The songs that arrived showcase her "cathartic falling in love" with a type of music that "bonds with an audience" but also reflects time battling with what she describes as "getting older, feeling disillusioned with the music industry, the passing away of friends and family and living life with a renewed urgency."

A life where outcomes exist past radio charts and feeling constrained by not meeting the expectations of the mainstream country music industry arrived with intentionally directed song titles like "Dead Weight," "Fake Flowers," "Lonely War" and "Underestimate Me."

About partnering with Harmony and Kelly for "Fake Flowers," Rose notes: "It's liberating to be angry and not have to soften the edges of my feelings for anyone or worry about how it would land. The lyrics have some piss and vinegar that comes from digging in deep and letting it all out."

"On this album, I'm dramatically swinging for the fences because I have nothing left to lose," says Rose.

"Emerging from darkness to celebration required me to quadruple down on my conviction in discovering the confidence that the light at the end of my work's tunnel achieves."

Proudly independent-minded music

Rose's Nashville career has moved between Americana, country, funk, pop, R&B, rock and soul.

In previous eras, that would merely have made her a clear analog to the success of Kelly Clarkson, Sheryl Crow, the Pointer Sisters, Bonnie Raitt and Linda Ronstadt in Music City.

However, in the past two decades, male, alt-rock and hip-hop-aided mainstream country stars have keyed a commercial and cultural boom that has redefined not just country music but Nashville's economic bottom line.

"Fear has led to an underestimating of the country audience's desire to appreciate sounds that are not clearly and concisely marketed to them," says Rose, referring to her own Nashville career compared to critical expectations. "I strongly feel like people desire to be drawn to fearless, dynamic artists whose (metaphorical) train is always moving."

Nashville's train is also moving in a "fearless" and "dynamic" direction as a city. It now welcomes over 100 new residents daily from locales as far-flung as Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, New York City and San Francisco.

For as much as those new residents are moving to Music City for the benefits of two decades of mainstream country's boom, both Big Loud and Rose are cautiously optimistic that Nashville's population growth could spur a moment for the city beyond being a country music hub.

"I clearly revere how much Nashville values an authentically great song, regardless of genre. This album reflects me making curious and self-indulgent music that reflects an independent-minded investment of how proud I am of the creativity in my work," Rose says.

"Nashville has both supported me and broken my heart so many times. Making an album for myself that I hope people enjoy allows me to enjoy being a part of the city's fabric as it grows."

Taylor Swift  is only cryptic and machiavellian because she cares.

On Monday, the 34-year-old singer perfectly timed up her Instagram Story -- complete with a link to download her upcoming 11th studio album, The Tortured Poets Society -- with the solar eclipse to reveal one of the first lyrics from the highly anticipated April 19 release.

In the video, a typewriter is seen with its keys typing out the words to the unidentified song, revealing three lines, including one with an on-the-nose reference to Monday's activity in the sky.

"Crowd goes wild at her fingertips / Half moonshine, Full eclipse," the sheet of paper reveals.

The Instagram Story comes as Swift is in the midst of the European leg of her record-breaking  Eras Tour  and less than two weeks out from the album's drop.

As Swifties eagerly await the new drop, here's everything she's revealed about the project (so far). We'll continue to monitor as the new updates roll in.

The Announcement

Swift dropped the news of her impending release onstage at the GRAMMY s on Feb. 4 while accepting her 13th trophy from the Recording Academy. The announcement came amid ongoing red herrings from the star, who many fans believed had been hinting at an imminent  Reputation (Taylor's Version) drop.

"OK, this is my 13th GRAMMY, which is my lucky number. I don't know if I’ve ever told you that," Swift quipped while accepting the Best Pop Vocal Album award for her last original album,  Midnights . "I want to say thank you to the members of the Recording Academy for voting this way, but I know that the way that the Recording Academy voted is a direct reflection of the passion of the fans."

Swift continued, "I want to say thank you to the fans by telling you a secret that I have been keeping from you for the last two years, which is that my brand new album comes out April 19th. It's called The Tortured Poets Department . I'm gonna go post the cover right now backstage. Thank you, I love you."

Moments later, Swift took to social media to share the main cover image for the album.

Shot by Beth Garrabrant, the black-and-white pic shows Swift lying on a bed, surrounded by pillows. The second slide of her Instagram post featured a handwritten page of what appeared to be lyrics, which read, "And so I enter into evidence / My tarnished coat of arms / My muses, acquired like bruises / My talismans and charms / The tick, tick, tick of love bombs / My veins of pitch black ink."

At the bottom of the page, Swift wrote, "All's fair in love and poetry - sincerely, The Chairman of The Tortured Poets Department."

It was the first of four covers to be unveiled. On the album's back cover, the songstress looks forlorn as she rests her head on her hand. Text splashed across the image reads, "I love you, it's ruining my life."

The first edition is labeled "The Manuscript," as a reflection of the album's bonus track title. Swift has gone on to share additional versions of the LP including bonus tracks called "The Bolter," "The Albatross" and "The Black Dog." Each one features a cohesive black and white or sepia toned aesthetic.

The Timeline

When announcing The Tortured Poets Department  in February,   Swift teased that the project had been in the works for two years. Then, during a tour stop in Tokyo, Japan, Swift further elaborated on the timeline .

"I've been working on  Tortured Poets  since right after I turned in  Midnights , " she told the audience at the Tokyo Dome, clarifying that albums are submitted "months in advance" so they can be finalized.

Midnights   was released in October 2022, and went on to make history when it was selected as the Album of the Year winner at the 2024 GRAMMYs.

In the time since  Midnights  dropped, Swift has also notably released  two rerecorded albums :  Speak Now (Taylor's Version)  and the record-breaking  1989 (Taylor's Version) .

"I've been working on it for about two years," she confirmed of  Tortured Poets . "I kept working on it throughout the U.S. tour and when it was perfect, in my opinion, when it was good enough for you, I finished it."

She continued, "I am so, so excited that soon you'll get to hear it, soon we'll get to experience that together, and I'm just like, I'm over the moon about the fact that you guys care about my music. It still blows my mind. I love doing this, I know I keep saying that, but that's because it's true.'"

Swift joked that she's been asked on numerous occasions, "Why do you make so many albums?" She replied, "Man, because I love it. I love it so much."

She added, "I'm having fun, leave me alone."

The Inspiration

While many fans expected Swift to announce a release date for  Reputation (Taylor's Version)  at the GRAMMYs, news that  Swift had already finished a completely original album  took many by surprise -- and sent Swiftie sleuths into overdrive to uncover clues about its origin and inspiration.

Quickly, a 2022 video of Swift's ex-boyfriend,  Joe Alwyn , resurfaced in which he revealed that he was in a group chat with friends  called "The Tortured Mans Club."   The former couple was in a relationship for six years before  ET broke the news of their split in April of last year.

The track "So Long, London" also caught many eyes, with Swifties wondering if it might also be a reference to Alwyn, who is English.

The celebrated songwriter is, of course, well known for her deeply personal lyrics and storytelling.

During a tour stop in Australia, Swift told the audience that creating Tortured Poets was a necessary outlet during a tumultuous time.

"This album, this new one, Tortured Poets ,   is an album that I think more than any of my albums that I've ever made -- I  needed  to make it," she said.

"It was really a lifeline for me, just the things I was going through, the things I was writing about," she continued. "It kind of reminded me of why songwriting is something that like actually gets me through my life."

She added, "I've never had an album where I needed songwriting more than I needed it on Tortured Poets ."

It's not yet clear if any of the Tortured Poets songs will include references to her current relationship with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce . The couple first connected after Kelce famously called her out on his podcast, New Heights , in July  for refusing to meet him during her tour stop at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri.   In a later interview with Time , Swift said she thought the move was "metal as hell."

The duo went public with their romance in September, when the musician made her first of many appearances at her beau's NFL games.  The rest, as they say, is history

In an Instagram Story on April 8, she revealed some of the very first lyrics from the album as a tease from the album's upcoming release.

"Crowd goes wild at her fingertips / Half moonshine, Full eclipse," she shared. It's unclear which song the lyrics come from.

Taylor Swift will stare directly at the sun, but never in the mirror — so let’s just hope she uses protective glasses.

The “Anti-Hero” singer aptly shared a what appears to be an eclipse-themed lyric from her upcoming new album The Tortured Poets Department on Monday (April 8), the same day the moon fully obscured the sun from Earth’s view for the first time in three years.

Everything We Know About Taylor Swift’s New Album ‘The Tortured Poets Department…

In a video posted to Swift’s Instagram Story, an unseen writer hammers the following message onto typewriter paper: “Crowd goes wild at her fingertips. Half moonshine, full eclipse.”

The post comes less than two weeks prior to Tortured Poets ‘ April 19 release date. Other than the cover art and track list, it marks the first taste of the record the 14-time Grammy winner has shared.

Swift first announced her 11th studio album at the 2024 Grammys while accepting the best pop vocal prize for Midnights , later confirming that both Post Malone and Florence + The Machine will make guest appearances on the project. She’s currently nearing the end of a two-month break from her global Eras Tour as she gears up to drop Tortured Poets , after which she’ll resume her trek with four shows in Paris slated for mid-May.

See the video of Swift’s eclipse-themed lyric from Tortured Poets below.

'A Journey' Ending Explained: Shane and Bryan's love story ends tragically

Contains spoilers for 'A Journey'

MANILA, PHILIPPINES: Netflix dropped a Filipino film titled 'A Journey' on April 12, 2024. The film revolves around the emotional journey of a couple as they confront the challenges of battling cancer.

When Shane ( Kaye Abad ) learns about the return of her tumor, she decides to ditch the chemo and instead fulfill her dreams. She, along with her husband and best friend, sets off on an adventure to tick off her entire bucket list.

However, as she finally completes the tasks on her list and her husband persuades her to get the treatment, the story takes a shocking twist.

What happens to Bryan in Netflix's 'A Journey'?

After Bryan (Paolo Contis) and Shane return from Tasmania, they spend an intimate night together. However, the next day, when Bryan wakes up, he suffers a bizarre pain and faints.

Shane rushes him to the hospital where he is announced dead. It is revealed that Bryan died due to aneurysm, a condition where a vein burst in his head, and it went undiagnosed.

Shane, who was preparing for her own funeral, finds it difficult to deal with the grief of her husband's sudden death.

Does Shane survive cancer in 'A Journey'?

In the final moments, we see Shane undergoing chemotherapy, as her last promise to Bryan. However, the chemo starts to suck life out of her as the radiations make her too weak.

As her friend Kristoff (Patrick Garcia) sits beside her in her final moments, she says that she isn't able to fight back cancer because she is unable to cope with the loss of her husband.

Shane tragically loses her battle to the deadly disease and Kristoff finds himself lonely, with both of his best friends dead within a span of few weeks.

Though Bryan and Shane's love story couldn't continue on Earth, viewers are left with the hope that they reunited in the afterlife.

The Temptations' Debut Turns 60: Otis Williams on Journey from 'No Hit Wonder' to Motown Legend (Exclusive)

Six decades after the group's debut LP, the surviving founding member spoke with PEOPLE about early hits, words of support from The Beatles, and keeping a legacy alive

end of a journey lyrics

Believing in your art takes patience. And in 1964, Otis Williams had plenty of that.

While at this point in his storied career, the Motown legend and sole surviving founding member of The Temptations has since earned his place in history books at 82 years old, he can still remember those early years — between 1960 and 1964 — before the beloved vocal group ever scored a hit on the Billboard charts.

“ The Supremes and the Temps, they were calling us the ‘No Hit Wonders’ because we had so many releases that none of them really jumped off,” Williams tells PEOPLE, now 60 years after the release of the Temptations’ April 1964 debut album, Meet the Temptations .

“See, most companies would just record you, and if you didn't do it on the first single, they'll drop you,” he adds. “If they loved you to any extent, they'll let you do two. But if you do not happen with the second single, they drop you like a bad habit.”

Unlike other label bosses, however, Berry Gordy would tell the Temptations — and other struggling groups — that it wasn’t the "fault" of the musicians. "'We've got to do better as a company, as a producer, as writers,'" Williams recalls of Gordy’s words. “And he stuck to that and he believed in us. And I love him because, like I said, most companies, they'll drop you, cast you away.”

As hard as it may be to believe, for a period of time in the early '60s, The Temptations simply could not gain traction on the charts. It wasn’t their tight stage performances, which Williams says they “prided ourselves in.” It wasn’t their singing, either. After all, this was a group consisting of (eventually) that classic lineup of vocal powerhouses David Ruffin, Melvin Franklin, Eddie Kendricks, and Paul Williams — along with Otis.

What it was, however, was timing. And after putting the work in with Motown’s artist development department, and landing on magic with the Smokey Robinson -penned “The Way You Do the Things You Do,” the Temps found their first hit song. That meant releasing their first album, just three months later, on April 13, 1964.

“First album, you never forget that. You’re set to really want to become a star and a recording artist. And so when the album came in, boy, you would've thought it was five Secretariats riding, ‘Da da dun, da, da, dun,’ running up there to get the album,” Williams says of himself and his fellow group members, all of whom he says were over 6-feet-tall in the mid-'60s. “And I got it, and I looked at it and I read every little credit nuance on the album.”

Six decades after The Temptations finally became a household name with “The Way You Do the Things You Do” and their debut LP, Meet the Temptations — and eventually hits like “My Girl,” “Just My Imagination (Running Away with Me),” “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg” and “Papa Was a Rollin’ Stone” in the months and years to follow — Williams is now reflecting on the moments that made that period in his life so special.

Speaking exclusively with PEOPLE about the album that launched his legendary career, Williams looks back on early encounters with the Jackson 5 , the making of “My Girl,” and the moment he and bandmate David Ruffin cried when they found out they scored a hit song for the first time.

Highlights from the conversation, edited for length and clarity, follow below.

Michael Ochs Archives/Getty

What do you think of when you hear those words, 'Meet the Temptations?'

We came out about the same time the Beatles were hot. And their first album was Meet the Beatles . And they had John, Paul, George and Ringo. And so when we had a hit with “The Way You Do the Things You Do,” I said, let's do Meet The Temptations . And they had us all sitting up there with the introduction of Paul, Eddie, Melvin and myself. So it was taken from the same thinking of the Beatles.

I understand a few months later when “My Girl” hit No. 1, The Beatles actually wrote you a telegram?

I have it at my house. It says, "Congratulations for ‘My Girl’ being No. 1." We were at the Apollo Theater, see we recorded "My Girl" the summer of '64. Motown released it near the end of December of '64, and it started running up the charts. So by February we were at the Apollo in '65 and I got a telegram from The Beatles, Berry Gordy, The Supremes, and Jules Podell, the guy that ran the Copacabana. And I have those four telegrams still hanging up in my home today.

And what did it mean for you, specifically knowing that the first album title emulated The Beatles?

It was a thrill that we had yet to overcome because we had been recording quite a [bit]... So to start having hits in the year of '64 all the way until now, I can't even find the right words to say, to put it in a real perspective because we had tried for so long to become successful. So when we got that first album, I must have sat and looked at that, boy I said, "Now I've got my own album," The Temps, because we were very noted in Detroit, but that first hit… here we are talking about 60 years later.

By the time you released this album, like you said, The Temps had been around for four years. You had several singles before that. The album largely consisted of those singles. Did it feel like it best represented the journey that you guys had been on up until that point?

Recording as many singles that we did and when we got “The Way You Do the Things You Do,” at first… I've always told the story that when Smokey called for us to come into the studio that cold January night and he passed out the lyrics to Paul, Eddie, Melvin, David, and myself. So as I'm reading the lyrics, "You've got to smile so bright, you could have been a candle, holding you so tight," I said, "What kind of crap is this? This is some hokey stuff here." So OK, we went down in the studio and we did the recording.

And after I sat and listened to it and how it all came together with David, Paul, Melvin, and myself and Smokey was in the control room. So I came in and I said, "Smokey you a bad man because you can take stuff that made no sense and it turns out making sense."

Do you remember when it was finally considered a hit?

Everybody was waiting for us to get that first big hit, that recognizable song that would really place us out there. We were a working group even back in those early stages. And so David had joined the group and we were up in Michigan, we worked all the inner places of Michigan. So we would be gone for two or three weeks at a time.So when we came back into Detroit, David and I, we came up to Motown. And one of the executives said, "Well man, where have you guys been?” So we said, "Well, we work until we get us a hit." He said, "Well, you got a hit."

So when we got the Billboard and we read that “The Way You Do the Things You Do,” we had jumped in about 76 or 77. Motown had a lounge in the lobby. And David and I sat down and we cried, because he had tried a number of years as a solo artist to get with us on our first hit. And The Temps, before David joined us, we had recorded a whole list of songs and that was the one. And that was the catalyst for us to be still being loved and accepted 60 years later.

And what did it feel like to share that moment with David when you found out about the success of the song?

Oh, it was a wonderful feeling because David was a noted soloist before he came with The Temps. But to see David in person as a solo artist, he was dynamic. And I was really amazed when he said, "Man, I want to sing with your group." I said, "Really?" We had built a name in Detroit. And David used to do record hops with us. And then he came out to some of the shows and watched us, and eventually he joined the group. And from '64 to '68, we were hot as a box of cayenne pepper.

Could you feel a significant change in the size of the crowds?

Oh yeah. Well, we have always prided ourselves in being tight, choreographically, harmony wise and presentation for us, looking like a group should look. And so we were accepted from that. And once we started having hit after hit, we were able to get flashier uniforms and we would rehearse with notable choreographers and voice coaches to really spit shine.

We broke every existing record at the Copacabana. Now I'm speaking of a place, Frank Sinatra , Sammy Davis Jr., Tony Bennett , Perry Como, heavyweight artists have been there and performed, and yet here come these five southern brothers from and we would turn the place out. And we were just doing our song.

How important was it for you to step out like you did at these TV and public appearances, dancing like you did?

Well, first of all, you must remember we were still young. We were 22, 23. So we had a lot of vigor to do that. And our presentation, we were very conscientious about how we liked to be received. Once we got on stage, we always would talk about that at rehearsal, the right kind of presentation and hear ourselves like consummate professionals.

… Aside from us being able to sing anything, all of us was six footers, which is kind of unheard of because you have groups that one guy's tall, one guy's medium, one guy's in between, one is fat — not to make any joke about other acts, but we saw that. The disc jockey said, "Man, you guys are tall, talented Temptations." Next thing you know, the disc jockey is across through the country stars, "Here come the five tall, talented Temptations." All of us are the same height and slim. And I guess the girls found us to look pretty decent as well.

You mentioned Smokey. What did that era mean for your creative relationship?

We always had that wonderful relationship with Smokey because he's Smokey. I once said, "Smokey, I have never seen you mad except for one time at the Howard Theater." "Oak, whatever," because he called me Oak. I said, Smokey was in the men's room, and I guess he wasn't coming out quick enough. And Bobby Rogers had to go. So Bobby kicked the door and Smokey was in there. And when Smokey came out, “Man, you almost kicked me in my head.” So that's the only time I saw Smokey really be mad. And that was '65, '66 there about. But he's been a sweetheart ever since.

Just months after that first LP release, you released “My Girl.” What was it like to perform it early on?

I tell the story about when Paul was in the group, he was the one that would line up the show. So after "My Girl" went up high [on the charts] and laid up there for a few weeks, and then it came down, Paul said, “Well, ‘My Girl’ has done all it's going to do. We can take it out now because that's it." We went out on the stage and we performed. We did not do “My Girl.” The audience almost called us every name except “the child of God.” So that is one song that can never ever come out of the [setlist].

You’ve previously talked about how you knew it was going to be a hit record when those strings and those horns were first put in. To you, how would you describe the feeling of knowing that you landed on something special?

Smokey came to see The Temps at a popular club in Detroit called The 20 Grand. It was packed. The show was packed and Smokey came backstage to see David and Eddie, Paul, Melvin, and myself. And Smokey was ranting and raving about how great the show was. And then during the course of him running that down, he stopped and he looked at David, he said, "I've got a song for you." So us being young and cocky men, "Bring it on. We can sing anything."

We then had to go to the Apollo and worked the Apollo with Smokey and Miracles and a few other acts. Smokey was the headliner. We were co-staring. In my home I have a picture of where Smokey was rehearsing with us backstage in the dressing room. And when he played [“My Girl”] for us, we weren't going to turn down Smokey. So we went to Detroit and recorded “My Girl” and said, "OK, sounds good." But that song took on a whole 'nother daylight when Paul Riser added the strings and the horns on it. I'm sitting there in the studio and I'm listening, and I said, "Oh, this song has taken on a whole 'nother fervor."

I walked into the studio control room where Smokey was, and I said, "Smoke. I don't know how big a record this is going to become, but this is going to be a record." Motown released 'My Girl' the end of December '64, and like I said, February of '65, we were at the Apollo. And when I said earlier about a "congratulations" telegram, and I never would've imagined it would be that big of a hit, but everywhere we would go, even today, people love that song.

Beyond just Smokey, how would you describe the collaborative environment of Motown in the '60s looking back at it?

When I look back, that was a special time. That was God's definitive touching because the music that came out of Motown is priceless. It is something that they'll never ever be a recording company like Motown… So I'm just glad that we are part of something that's so histrionic in the sense of it'll be loved and appreciated. Here it's 60 years later and people still love Motown music, so it'll continue on.

When you look back at memories and conversations with the Jackson 5 in particular in the late ‘60s, do you have a favorite?

Well, one of the things I always remember is, one night, I'm riding around in Detroit and I said, "Let me drive by Motown." So when I drove by Motown, there were a lot of cars sitting out front. I said, "OK, let me go in and see what's happening." So I got out of my car and walked in and went into the control room. There was the Jackson 5.

So when I walked in, they looked at me like, "That's one of the Temptations." I'm looking at them. "Wow, that's the Jackson 5." That kind of love back and forth because I was in awe of them as they were in awe of The Temps, and I was just the only one out there at that point in time. And to watch them become the noted artists that they are known for, and Michael, that's something special. And so I'm just glad that we had the moment and the time to share at Motown. That's also what made Motown so uniquely different because it just had a whole 'nother kind of fervor of artists and all the wonderful artists that came out of Motown that are still loved today.

The Temps are still going so strong today and continuing to build this legacy. You live it every day. What do you hope your legacy is 60 years from now, 64 years from now?

I hope that it'll still be loved as it is 60 years at this present time. And I think it will be because like I said, Motown had that division called artist development, and we had to go to school… Berry had a whole-nother approach and I can't help but love him, man, they still believed in you. Most companies, they’d say, "No, I'm not going to spend any more money on them." They were going to drop them. Berry didn't do that. He believed in his artists to the max.
