Official: Barcelona squad list for the US pre-season tour; de Jong included

Barcelona are set to jet off to the United States for their pre-season tour this afternoon. The long excursion will include friendlies against the likes of Real Madrid, Juventus and MLS outfit Inter Miami.

Ahead of their flight to Florida, Barcelona have announced the squad list for the US tour, which includes the four new signings in Raphinha, Pablo Torre, Andreas Christensen and Franck Kessie.

Ousmane Dembele has been included in the squad as well after penning a contract extension. But the most notable inclusion is Frenkie de Jong, who has been selected despite ongoing speculation over a potential move to Manchester United.

There is no doubt Barça themselves are keen on offloading de Jong, whose sale could go a long way in helping the club balance the books and register the new signings.

Barcelona had even considered excluding de Jong from the pre-season tour to the US in an attempt to put pressure on the midfielder. But it appears the Dutchman will continue becoming a part of the setup, in what could be a major blow for Manchester United.

Meanwhile, Barcelona have left out five notable players from the trip to the United States. The list includes Martin Braithwaite, Oscar Mingueza and Neto. Samuel Umtiti and Riqui Puig have been left out as well.

Fabrizio Romano suggests each of these five players have been instructed to find new clubs and leave Camp Nou as soon as possible. Barcelona believe their departures could help the club register new signings such as Raphinha.

However, not all of them have appeared keen on leaving Camp Nou as they are sitting on lucrative contracts and as we head closer to the start of the new season, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for these outcasts.

Xavi Hernandez has released the Barcelona squad list for the American tour after the final training session on Wednesday.

Yamal, Garrido & Casado: The six Barça youngsters picked for first team tour

The Barça coach was able to inclde Oriol Romeu, after his signing was announced, so he will once again wear the Blaugrana shirt in North America, where he will also be presented.

Ilkay Gündogan will be the star signing for the Blaugrana expedition, while Iñigo Martínez is expected to make progress in his recovery, although he is not expected to play minutes.

Xavi will count on seven Barça Atlètic players: Astralaga, Faye, Valle, Casadó, Fermín, Aleix Garrido and Lamine Yamal.

The squad will fly to Los Angeles in the early afternoon and will arrive in the United States in the early hours of the morning, in Spanish Peninsular time. 

Barça will play their first of four friendlies in the early hours of Saturday morning (4.30 am Spanish time) against Juventus in Santa Clara. Arsenal, Real Madrid and Milan will be their other opponents.

Official: Barcelona announce squad for USA pre-season tour

FC Barcelona are all set for their pre-season tour of the United States, as Xavi has called up 32 players for this trip. During this tour, the Catalan giants will face off against some of the biggest European clubs, and will be looking to provide a spectacle for its fans in the United States of America.

The squad list for this tour will be particularly exciting for Barcelona fans as it includes a number of new arrivals. Oriol Romeu, Ilkay Gundogan, Mika Faye, and Inigo Martinez will all be traveling with the squad, and with the possible exception of Martinez, who is still recovering from his injuries, will all feature in Barcelona’s matches in the USA.

A number of academy players have also been called up Xavi, including Marc Casado, Astralaga, Lamine Yamal, Fermin Lopez, Alex Valle , and Aleix Garrido. The rest of the squad will be made up of the regular components from Xavi’s squad of the last season.

The Barcelona squad are set to fly to California today for the start of their US tour, and Xavi has confirmed the travelling squad he’ll be taking with him.

One name is missing and that’s Nico Gonzalez, the youth midfielder who is set to leave Barca this summer on loan, with Porto reportedly interested in bringing him in.

There is a place for both Franck Kessie and Clement Lenglet, both of whom have been heavily linked with a move away to Juventus and Tottenham respectively.

There is also plenty of youth in the team with the likes of Abde, Lopez, Faye, Yamal, Ander Astralaga, Alex Valle and Aleix Garrido.

As we reported yesterday , Abde is going to be given every opportunity to stake a claim to a first-team place after impressing at the U23 AFCON championships with Morocco.

Ansu Fati and Ferran Torres are embarking on a key summer with Barcelona, after both having a rocky start to their Barcelona careers.

New signings İlkay Gündoğan, Inigo Martinez and Oriol Romeu will make the trip too.

The Barca side is set to land in California this evening with their first training session held tomorrow at the LA Memorial Coliseum.

They will then run the gauntlet over the pre-season, facing a number of European powerhouses designed to prepare the team for the rigours of a busy season.

Barcelona will be back stateside this summer for their pre-season tour, the club has confirmed.

On Friday it was announced that BARÇA ON TOUR: US 2023 will see the first team squad play four games against European teams in the United States. For the third time, Barcelona will face El Clásico rivals Real Madrid on the other side of the Atlantic.

They will face other tough opponents in the form of Arsenal, AC Milan and Juventus .

This year’s visit will be the 14th time that the club has toured the States , with the first occasion coming in 1937. In recent years US trips have become increasingly popular amongst the top European sides and Barça toured there in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2022.

When is Barcelona vs Juventus?

The tour will take Xavi Hernandez’ side to the West Coast, where they will face Italian giants Juventus on 22 July . For the third time in its history, Barcelona will play at the Levis Stadium , Santa Clara in San Francisco.

Levis Stadium is usually the home of NFL side San Francisco 49ers and the home crowd is sure to make themselves heard in the 68,000-capacity stadium.

When is Barcelona vs Arsenal?

Former Barcelona academy player Mikel Arteta will bring his Arsenal side to the States this summer and he will face the Blaugrana in Los Angeles on 26 July . The game will be played at the SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, which opened in 2020 and is usually shared between the Los Angeles Chargers and the Los Angeles Rams.

Barcelona and Arsenal last met in the 2015/16 edition of the Champions League, with Barça running out 5-1 aggregate winners. The Gunners will be out for revenge this time around.

When is Barcelona vs Real Madrid?

For Barça fans, the biggest game scheduled for this summer will be the Clásico fixtures against old rivals Real Madrid. On 29 July the two sides will meet at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

The stadium, home to the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys, has a capacity of 80,000 and is almost certain to be sold out for the match.

When is Barcelona vs AC Milan?

The final stop on Barcelona’s US tour 2023 will take them to Las Vegas, where they also played against Real Madrid last year. This time the Blaugrana will face Champions League semi-finalists AC Milan in the Allegiant Stadium .

Xavi’s team will wrap up the tour in the 65,000-seat stadium before heading back to Spain to continue their preparations for the 2023/24 season.

Barcelona's 2022 US tour features stops in Florida and New Jersey

After being unable to travel to the United States due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Barcelona’s US tour starts anew this summer.

In mid- to late-July, the 26-time LaLiga champion makes its fifth trip to the U.S. in the last eight years. The American market is one of Barcelona’s targets for its international brand growth. With trips in 2011, 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2019, the Catalans are committed to the United States.

In those trips, Barcelona played against a number of famous opponents in front of massive crowds. In 2017, Barcelona played Real Madrid in the first  El Clásico  not on Spanish soil . Other matches included Napoli, Manchester United and Juventus.

This summer, Barcelona travels to the United States to play a pair of MLS teams. However, it is not necessarily the first time. On July 19, DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale hosts Barcelona’s battle against Inter Miami. David Beckham and Phil Neville have a history of facing Barcelona. Neville and Beckham were both part of the squads that saw a combined 12 goals over two group stage games between United and Barcelona in the 1998/99 Champions League.

FC Barcelona heading to United States this summer

Inter Miami only formed in 2018, making this the first game between the two. Eleven days later, Barcelona’s 2022 US tour rolls into New York. For the third time, Barcelona takes on New York Red Bulls. It has been a while. The two clubs faced off during Barcelona’s US tours in 2006 and 2008 at Metlife Stadium. Current Barcelona manager Xavi featured in both of those games, which Barcelona won 4-1 and 6-2.

Potential third fixture

Something to note about Barcelona’s announcement is that the club mentioned its number of games. During each of the previous visits stateside, Barcelona played three games. The club only announced two games in this tour.

So, that leaves the potential for a third game. Early reports are another El Clásico against Real Madrid. This time, if reports are true, the two Spanish giants are set to meet at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. This stadium hosted a number of soccer games last summer, particularly regarding the success of the United States Men’s National Team. This would be the second El Clásico in the United States, and just the third outside of Spain. The two sides met in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia for the Supercopa de España semifinals.

No date has been released yet. However, it would certainly be the biggest game for Barcelona’s 2022 US tour. Plus, it would likely be the biggest offseason game in the world of soccer throughout the summer.

Players to feature in Barcelona’s 2022 US tour

In the past, fans got to look forward to Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez. Granted, all those players are gone.

However, the club has a number of young and promising players that are on the track to being world-beaters.

Barcelona tour dates

Pedri, for example, is already an elite midfielder at the age of 19. His play in the midfield allowed Barcelona to battle back from early season struggles in the past campaign to finish second in the league.

Ansu Fati has the burden on his shoulders to be the next Lionel Messi. An injury-laden start to his young career caused Barcelona fans to wait a little longer for his breakthrough. However, when Fati does play, he shows how special his talent is.

Both of these players suffered injuries throughout 2021/22. Therefore Barcelona’s 2022 US tour is a good chance for game action ahead of the club’s return to the Champions League in the coming season.

These are the major names, but other talents could be poised for a strong 2022/23, which starts here in the United States with the preseason.

Gavi and Alejandro Balde are two more teenagers with first-team experience already.

Then, of course, there are the more established players that draw in the headlines. Gerard Pique and Jordi Alba are mainstays in the Barcelona starting XI, as they have for years. Then, there are the question marks. Frenkie De Jong, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Ousmane Dembele all may not be at the Nou Camp next season. Neymar famously played his last game for Barcelona in the United States against Real Madrid. This is a real possibility for Barcelona’s potential departures.

FC Barcelona announced the 30 man roster that will travel to the United States for Cingular presents "FC Barcelona On Tour USA 2006" that will take the European champions to Los Angeles, Houston and New York for three exciting matches against top competition. The tour begins on August 6th as FC Barcelona takes on CD Guadalajara of Mexico at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. The Spanish champions then travel to Houston in order to take on Mexico's Club America on August 9th at Reliant Stadium before wrapping up the ten day trip at Giants Stadium against the New York Red Bull of MLS at Giants Stadium on August 12th.

FC Barcelona's roster includes some of the game's greatest stars including FIFA Player of the Year Ronaldinho (Brazil), the 19 year old sensation Lionel Messi (Argentina), African Player of the Year Samuel Eto'o and Mexican captain Rafa Márquez.

The club also will travel with its newest acquisitions including 2006 FIFA World Cup winner Gianluca Zambrotta and World Cup runner up with the French National Team, Lillian Thuram. Also making the trip is Icelandic forward Eidur Gudjohnsen who joined the team this summer after a number of years with Chelsea FC.

The team also included six players from its youth squad in its list of players who will make the trip. These players include Giovanni Dos Santos, the young Mexican midfielder who won the most recent FIFA U-17 World Cup with the Mexico. Dos Santos recently saw his first minutes with the first team as he scored a goal during a recent match during the club's tour through Denmark.

More than 120,000 tickets have been sold for the three matches of the tour. Many sections have already sold out but good seats still are available. "Tito was an absolutely normal person, a quality that is rare in football nowadays"

April 25, 2014 was a tragic day for Barcelona and for the entire football world: a malignant tumor put an end, at the age of 45, to the life of Tito Vilanova , coach of the first team a few months earlier. Today he will be remembered on the front pages as the coach of the 100-point league, but those who shared his life with him are aware of the influence he has had on their lives beyond the numbers and popularity he never sought. Jordi Roura , Tito's friend and assistant coach during his time on the bench and a member of the FC Barcelona Players' Association, explains their strong friendship.

It all started with "Els Golafres" ("The Gluttons"): young players from La Masia who met to eat Catalan products imported from their villages while talking about soccer. That's how Tito Vilanova, from Bellcaire d'Empordà, and Jordi Roura, originally from Llagostera, met: "We were all crazy about soccer. He watched a lot of matches, he liked to watch them... He was very studious" . He was known as "El Marqués" "because he was a perfectionist and always liked to dress neatly" - says Roura with a smile.

"Close, affable, direct and authentic. When he said something, he did it" . This is how Tito earned the respect and affection of everyone. Also in the 2012-2013 season, when he took over as first team coach. Roura was the second of the man who "was like a brother" . The basis of his success in life, according to him, is that "he was an absolutely normal person, a quality that is rare in football nowadays" .

The goal was not an easy one: he had to continue writing successes in the most golden chapter of the club's history. Neither was growing in popularity: "He didn't take fame very well. He enjoyed soccer exclusively” . Fortunately, he shared the challenge with his lifelong friends. According to Roura, "that was one of the differential aspects. We shared the knowledge and the feeling of this house. [...] We always told him what we had to say when we had to say it. Sometimes he was fine with it and sometimes not, but that is the greatness of friendship" . One phrase sums up Tito Vilanova's time on the Barça bench: "Everything was going well except what needed to go well" , Roura said.

The gray days and the most valuable lesson in life

Although he underwent medical tests during the preseason, Tito Vilanova relapsed from the malignant tumor he suffered in 2012. So Jordi Roura fulfilled the duties of head coach on the pitch for four months, an uncomfortable situation: "In addition to the pressure and demands, there was the personal issue. I knew he was fighting for his life. It was an absolutely anomalous situation that I hope never happens again".

The outcome was very hard, but at the same time it gave him a life lesson: "Since all this happened, I face things with a different approach. Things are of relative importance, and football is just football” . Now he focuses on enjoying the little things and, from time to time, sharing a meal and a long after-dinner conversation with "Els Golafres" with Tito in his memory.
