Experience the #1 Ranked Outdoor Activity on our Scottsdale Jeep Tour
Come see why TripAdvisor named our guide-led Sonoran Desert Jeep tours as Scottsdale’s 2021 #1 ranked outdoor activity. Our professional tour guides are scholars and entertainers who have helped us achieve Viator’s 2020 ‘Badge of Excellence’ for meeting the highest tour operator quality standards.
When you think of the word “desert,” you probably imagine a barren wasteland devoid of any form of life. However, with hundreds of species of plants and animals, the Sonoran Desert is the most bio-diverse desert in North America—teeming with all it has to offer.
On our guide-led Sonoran Desert Jeep tours, you will see and learn about the stunning scenery that you saw in the popular old Western movies stretched out around you in full-color panoramic views.
Where will you be going? We are permitted to operate our off-road vehicle tours in the Sonoran Desert portion of the scenic Tonto National Forest adjacent to the northeast border of Scottsdale, Arizona. Since our tours are entirely on federal lands where development is prohibited, you will have the opportunity to see the desert as local Native Americans experienced it for hundreds of years before the Valley was settled in the late 1800s.
Whether you are here on vacation, a corporate event, for a bachelorette party, or any other occasion, our fleet of open-air vehicles are modified to carry 6, 7, or 14 passengers each. We can accommodate groups of all sizes for any occasion. For groups of 50 guests or more, please call our office.
Check out our guide-led Sonoran Desert Jeep tour options below:
3-HOUR GUIDE-LED, SONORAN DESERT JEEP TOUR
Our 3-hour Jeep tour is a low-speed, bumpy sightseeing tour of the scenic Sonoran Desert via the Tonto National Forest. Your daytime tour will trek through spectacular Jeep trails overseeing the historic Great Western Trail leading to the Verde River, where guests sometimes catch a glimpse of our roaming wild horse population.
Your professional tour guide, who is a certified off-road driver and the only driver throughout the duration of your Jeep tour, will teach about the Sonoran Desert flora, wildlife, Arizona history, and Native American ethnobotany. There will also be plenty of photo opportunities throughout this tour. Since our permitted trails are connected to Scottsdale, this tour guarantees the most trail time at the best price.
YOUR TOUR, YOUR WAY – PRIVATE TOURS
Please note that if you book a Public Tour, your group may be scheduled to ride in a vehicle with other passengers. If you would like to guarantee an off-road vehicle for your party only and tour guide, we have Private Tour options available for groups up to 7 and up to 14 persons. Call us to book and for more information. Some restrictions and conditions apply.
DESIGNATED MEETING LOCATION
Village at Pinnacle Peak 8711 East Pinnacle Peak Road Suite F-108 Scottsdale, AZ 85255 (East side of Plaza)

WHAT TO WEAR
Closed-toe shoes are required for when we venture out on foot at our designated stopping points. During the fall and winter months, be sure to bring a jacket. Temperatures in the desert drop ~30 degrees after sunset. We recommend wearing comfortable outdoor clothing that will show up well in your photographs (there will be plenty!)

Our Table Mesa off-road tours occur northwest of New River and southwest of Black Canyon City.
Note: Our open-air off-road vehicles ensure full ventilation throughout our adventure tours.

Apache Trail Highway
2 ½ hour apache trail tour.
Prone to vertigo or motion sickness? This tour may not be for you, due to the snaking road and altitude.
This tour is mostly on a paved road. Although it can be driven in a 2-wheel drive car, it’s a white knuckle drive and having a guide gives you the opportunity to enjoy the scenery without worrying about the winding cliff side road.
Departing out of Goldfield Ghost Town, this 2 ½ hour tour will provide amazing vistas and rugged countryside as it traverses the famous Apache Trail Highway. At Fish Creek Vista, you’ll have about 20 minutes to take the concrete walkway to the overlook of Fish Creek Canyon. The next stop will be at Tortilla Flat with about 20 minutes to wander the boardwalk, enjoy a prickly pear gelato or a quick trip to the gift shop. This drive is filled with history and some of the best scenery in Arizona.
Help Us Reopen the Apache Trail
On March 18th, 1911, Theodore Roosevelt dedicated Roosevelt Dam at the juncture of Tonto Creek and the Salt River. Construction of the dam began in 1905 and it was completed in February 1911.
Approximately 1600 people and a contingent of 30 Apache laborers watched on as President Roosevelt pressed a button which released the reservoir waters for the first time. The dam was renamed and dedicated to President Roosevelt during the ceremony.
Prior to the Dam becoming a reality, a roadway had to be constructed to haul equipment and supplies from Mesa to the dam site. So began the construction of the now world famous, Apache Trail. The Apache Trail was built following the footpath used by the ancient Salado Indian Tribe as far back as 900AD. Both Apache and Pima Tribe laborers helped build the Apache Trail and Roosevelt Dam and the Trail became Arizona’s first designated Historic Highway.
Many of you know that the middle section of the Apache Trail has been closed indefinitely since September 23, 2019 after Tropical Storm Lorena whirled over the area and dumped over 6” of water in a matter of hours, pummeling Fish Creek hill with boulders and shattering the road base.
ADOT states they have no funds to repair the roadway and Governor Ducey doesn’t seem to care much about it.
Well….WE DO! A committee of local government officials, business owners, and concerned others has been formed and we are working diligently to get the Apache Trail repaired and reopened.
Please visit the website dedicated to this effort and read more details and history about the Apache Trail.

We have made it especially easy to send a personal message to the Governor’s office via the website, so please do so, and forward to all of your friends and contacts.
You can also have a great impact and call into the Governor’s Office and demand that he repair and reopen this Arizona Treasure: 602-542-4331

AMAZING! I wish I could give them 6 stars! The ride was fun and informative. The guides, Bill and Lisa were easy going and friendly, they showed me a side of Arizona I never knew existed! Great views and a great time. Two thumbs ups!
My Husband and I recently took this tour and highly recommend it. Our tour guide Lisa was wonderful. We had a great time and learned so much about the area. We visited the hatchery that has recently reopened, We hiked to a Beautiful waterfall, and she showed us many spectacular views for Photo Ops. This tour did not disappoint!
My family and I are from Phoenix and we spent this weekend camping, hiking, swimming, exploring here in Payson and this was our favorite part of the trip. Jeff Curl made the booking quick and easy. Lisa (our tour guide) was awesome and very knowledgeable of the area. We had so much fun and learned alot. We 100% recommend this tour and will be returning next time we come to this area.
It was a great nature adventure. The drivers took care of us from rough and bumpy roads. They were so great!
The jeep tours at Creekside Tavern and Cabins are great! I highly recommend checking them out as a fun way to see the sights and get some very interesting and entertaining background on the area from the amazing guides. Thank you creekside for such a great time!
