Justin Hayward, The Voice of The Moody Blues announces 'The Harmony Tour' 2024

Live Nation / Kennedy Street are delighted to announce that legendary singer-songwriter Justin Hayward, The Voice of the Moody Blues , will undertake ‘The Harmony Tour’ taking in 12 venues in March 2024. The shows will go on general sale at 9am on Friday 1 September 2023*. Tickets available from ticketline.co.uk , ticketmaster.co.uk and the venues direct. Justin Hayward says, “It’s always a privilege and a joy to be invited to play in the UK. I'm rediscovering songs I have written and sung over the years - some that I only lived with for a few days while they were being recorded. Now, I have a chance to experience the feelings that they gave me then, every night on stage, as well as including in our set the favourites that have been milestones on my musical journey. I'm joined by the ‘guitar genius’ that is Mike Dawes , along with Julie Ragins and Karmen Gould , two of the brightest talents in music”.

Justin Hayward, The Voice of The Moody Blues

Justin Hayward OBE has enjoyed a career which is now in its fifth decade. He is best known as the vocalist, lead guitarist and composer for the iconic Moody Blues, whose hits include the masterful ‘Nights in White Satin’, ‘Tuesday Afternoon’, ‘Question’, ‘The Voice’ and the US top 40 hits ‘I Know You’re Out there Somewhere’ and In Your Wildest Dreams’: plus other classic, era and genre-defining hits. These laid the foundation for the incredible success story of the Moody Blues – as well as Hayward’s solo work – which continues to this day. Already established as a songwriter, he joined the Moody Blues in 1966. Hitting his stride immediately with “Fly Me High,” he followed it with ‘Nights in White Satin’ and ‘Tuesday Afternoon’ from the seminal album Days of Future Past . The Moody Blues sold 70 million albums worldwide, which includes 18 platinum and gold LPs. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018.

Hayward created several solo albums such as Songwriter, Night Flight, Moving Mountain s and ‘Classic Blue’ with long time friend Mike Batt, and The View From the Hill. He hit the Top Ten globally in 1978 with ‘Forever Autumn’ – created for Jeff Wayne’s War of the Worlds album. Hayward took to the stage and starred in its spectacular live production. His Spirits Of The Western Sky (2013) was followed by DVD ‘Spirits…Live’, which reached No. 1 on the Billboard Video chart. All The Way followed - a compilation of solo work and live performances.

In 2020, Justin took to YouTube for the ‘Tuesday Afternoon Video Series’ where he performed and discussed many of his key tracks: this led to the digital album ‘Tuesday Afternoons: The Audio Files’. Justin continues to record new music; in 2021 releasing ‘One Summer Day’ and ‘My Juliette’, and ‘Living For Love’ in 2022. These 2024 dates represent a rare chance for Justin Hayward ’s fans to connect with one of music’s keenest talents and to hear the music that he loves presented with a truly personal touch. Justin Hayward is a singer who fronted a band called The Moody Blues, accompanying himself on the guitar and writing all the music. Hayward’s CV is definitely a long one as he has been playing in bands since the young age of 13. His professional career started in 1964 when he joined Marty Wilde in the Wilde Three. Eventually, he signed a publishing contract with the skiffle artists and record producer Lonnie Donegan, which was unfortunately not a good move for Hayward as the songs that he wrote up until 1974 were forever owned by Donegan’s Tyler Music. Fortunately, he went on to write music with The Moody Blues, where he sold 2 million units.

Nowadays, it is all about his solo material, and I had the chance to go and see what this legend was all about when he performs live. There is no doubt that this singer-songwriter is a storyteller who can have the audience hanging on his every word that he sings. He proves it fantastically in “Nights In White Satin”, on his twelve string acoustic guitar accompanied by another acoustic guitar and a keyboard. Three-part harmonies galore.

The show was a combination of Moodies hits, deep album cuts as well as a selection of Justin's solo music. The addition of the flute to his solo concerts is very positive especially in that the sound was authentic to the original music. Memorable moments included Justin asking if the audience minded if he repeated again Voices in the Sky as the first time it wasn't quite perfect and the show was being filmed for possible future release. Of course no one would have minded if he repeated it five more times. Also as the first encore song Blue Guitar began and he became lost in his playing the opening on the Gibson 335 he wound up not in front of the microphone at the right time and though he tried to recover after singing the first few words he threw up both hands in disgust with his mistake and started the whole thing over as the audience laughed and cheered. It was just endearing and we left just loving him more!

My wife and I love the Moody Blues. Justin Hayward is the heart and soul of the Moody Blues. Our son is named Justin because to us it is a majestic name. In 1972 I saw the Moody Blues at the San Diego Sports Arena and I snuck a little Sony tape player into the Arena. 50 years later I listen to that concert and have tears in my eyes. Mike Pinder's mellotron was amazing live in concert. We love you Justin! Will be there to see you in Solana in May.

It was a magical night...

We've been a fan of the Moody Blues since early seventies and listen to On the Threshold of a Dream every night.

Justin played all of our favorite songs and they sounded just like the old vinyl record.

He's song are poetry of love and you don't hear that in today's song.

He is truly a gifted artist and hope he will be around for ever.

A absolute joy to hear Moodies play.....Veteran Cosmic Rockers.

Their music is as timeless as our own imaginations. Really feel sorry for younger generations who now only have electronic composers whose depth of composition and material sounds and feels so empty at times.

Listen to "Gypsy" and be transformed ;-)

Justin Hayward is a "gem". His very heart is in his songs. I love how he is very professional and gives his "all" to the audience. I have seen his solo concerts and they have inspired me greatly. I put him up there with "Bono" of U2 who also gives his 100%. Thanks Justin for the music!!!

Go see this guy whether he’s solo,or with the Moody Blues ! You won’t be disappointed for sure...his soulful ballads and expert guitar virtuosity drives your spirit soaring, and his lyrics and musical mastery makes for an eventful experience and rewarding time!

We have seen his solo show twice and are seeing him both in Tucson at the Fox Theater and at Talking Stick. This man is highly underrated. His songs are, as he says, "from the heart." Go see him, you won't be disappointed.

Enjoy the shows because he also talks about his music and compositions before his beautiful renditions of them with talented Julie Ragins on vocals and Mike Dawes young guitarist accompanying him.

Justin Hayward & Christopher Cross

Justin Hayward & Christopher Cross

A double bill featuring two of music’s most iconic voices! Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Justin Hayward is best-known as the long-time vocalist, lead guitarist and composer for The Moody Blues. Five-time Grammy winner Christopher Cross has sold over 10 million albums and his top ten hits include such classics as “Sailing” and “Ride Like the Wind.”

JUSTIN HAYWARD

Having chalked up over fifty years at the peak of the music and entertainment industry, Justin Hayward’s voice has been heard the world over.  Known principally as the vocalist, lead guitarist and composer for the Moody Blues, his is an enduring talent that has helped to define the times in which he worked. Over the years the band has sold more than fifty-five million albums and received numerous awards. In 2018, along with the other members of The Moody Blues, Justin was inducted into the legendary Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Born and brought up in Swindon in the UK, Justin’s interest in music started early when he was five years old and his grandfather bequeathed him his large collection of 78 rpm recordings. “It opened a world of imagination to me,” says Justin.  Having taught himself to play the ukulele, he soon progressed to guitar and by his early teens he was playing in local groups.  Upon leaving school at 17 he answered an advertisement in Melody Maker newspaper and successfully auditioned for UK Rock and Roll hero Marty Wilde. “I got the job playing guitar for Marty – it was a dream come true for me”. Justin credits Marty with encouraging him to become a songwriter; he made several recordings with Marty’s ‘Wilde Three’ and also appeared with them at the London Palladium.  They remain close friends to this day: “Marty is still my hero”.

Having started the ball rolling as a songwriter in his own right with a couple of solo singles, he joined the Moody Blues in the summer of 1966. Hitting his stride immediately with the single ‘Fly Me High’, he followed it up with the classic hit songs ‘Nights in White Satin’ and ‘Tuesday Afternoon’ from the seminal album ‘Days of Future Passed’. This album went on to become a favourite of the NASA astronauts and was taken aboard the Atlantis shuttle space craft by Chief astronaut “Hoot” Gibson on many missions.

This purple patch showed no sign of abating as Justin created other classic, era and genre-defining hits ‘Question’, ‘The Voice’, ‘The Story In Your Eyes’, ‘I Know You’re Out There Somewhere’ and ‘Your Wildest Dreams’.  These laid the foundation for the incredible success story of the Moody Blues – as well as his solo work – which continues to this day.

In 2022 Justin revived his role as ‘the journalist’ in the touring production of Jeff Wayne’s ‘War of The Worlds’ and in 2023 he co-headlined an extensive tour of the USA with Christopher Cross. Justin’s latest single is ‘Living for Love’.

CHRISTOPHER CROSS

Christopher Cross burst onto the music scene with his 1980 self-titled debut album, winning five Grammy Awards, including—for the first time in Grammy history—the “Big Four” most prestigious awards: Record of the Year (for the single “Sailing”), Album of the Year, Song of the Year (also “Sailing”), and Best New Artist.

In a career spanning more than four decades, Cross has sold over 10 million albums. His music has garnered five Grammys, an Oscar, a Golden Globe, an Emmy nomination and five Top 10 singles.

Within a year of the first album’s release, Cross joined music royalty Burt Bacharach to write “Arthur’s Theme,” for the movie  Arthur , which won an Academy Award for Best Song.  With his 1983 release,  Another Page , Cross was again in the Top 10 with the singles “All Right” and “Think of Laura.” His song, “Swept Away,” composed for the hit television series,  Growing Pains , was nominated for an Emmy.

Cross started his own label and, since 2007, has released 8 albums of new material, including  A Christopher Cross Christmas  and  The Café Carlyle Sessions , jazz treatments of hits and favorites born out of a residency at the famous Hotel Carlyle in New York City.   Take Me as I Am , released in 2018, features richly-crafted melodies and elegant guitar work.  The latest project for Christopher Cross Records is aptly titled  The Complete Works . Released in 2020, it celebrates his 40th anniversary as a recording artist and is a collection of all 12 previously-released CDs, one CD of singles and bonus tracks, and a pink vinyl containing one track from each album chosen by Christopher.

Even though the COVID-19 pandemic delayed the 40th Anniversary tour, starting in 2021, he is once again performing the carefully-crafted songs and music his fans enjoy, starting with “Sailing” and “Ride Like the Wind” from his Grammy-winning debut album and continuing through the decades of his ever-changing but always excellent material.  More 40th Anniversary concert dates will be announced soon.  Dates can be found on the  tour section  of his website, www.christophercross.com.

All in all, it’s been quite a ride, one that has taken Cross from his early days in Texas where he once served as a drum tech for Ginger Baker, bought gear from Jimmy Page, and played lead guitar for Deep Purple on a night when Ritchie Blackmore fell ill, to this place as a respected singer-songwriter-guitar player who continues to share his original music with the world.

'The world had moved on.' How Moody Blues joined a revolution with 'Days of Future Passed'

  • Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below

When Justin Hayward joined the Moody Blues , they were essentially a British beat group whose live shows were loaded with R&B covers, as brilliantly captured on 1965's "The Magnificent Moodies."

The year was 1966 and Hayward had been called in to replace guitarist Denny Laine, the voice of "Go Now," which had topped the U.K. charts, with John Lodge joining that same year on bass.

"I came to the group as a songwriter," Hayward recalls in advance of his concert at Phoenix's Celebrity Theatre on Thursday, May 19.

"Mike Pinder, the keyboard player, called me when Denny left. Because it was a cover version band. It was rhythm & blues — interesting, good and professional for the time. But Mike was a songwriter, too, and he wanted to find a way to do his own songs."

Moody Blues decide to do their own songs

At first, they attempted to move on without necessarily moving on.

"We just weren't very good at the rhythm & blues cover thing," Hayward says.

"It was a bit pointless somehow. But they were paying the rent. So by the end of 1966, we were doing two 45-minutes sets — one which was rhythm & blues covers and then our second 45 minutes would be our own material."

They were still wearing matching blue suits at the time.

"And we looked very elegant," Hayward recalls. "But it was dated already. The world had moved on."

It all came to a head in the van driving home from a difficult week of shows.

"We just agreed we've got to do our own songs," Hayward says.

"No blue suits anymore. Just be us, do our own songs and see what happens. Because we had nothing to lose. If you've got nothing, it doesn't matter."

The making of 'Days of Future Passed'

The Moodies' first attempt at updating their sound was 1967's  "Fly Me High," written by Hayward.

In May of that same year, they entered Decca Studios in London with producer Tony Clarke to start work on an album titled "Days of Future Passed."

Their label, Decca, had been experimenting with stereophonic sound on classical recordings, and presented the idea of interweaving their material with classical recordings arranged by Peter Knight.

"We recorded our songs for 'Days of Future Passed,' which was mostly our stage act," Hayward says.

"Nights in White Satin" and "Dawn is a Feeling" had been kicking around for a while by then.

"In fact, 'Nights' was recorded by the BBC back in May of that year, " he recalls. "But it became perfectly part of the 'Days of Future Passed' album."

'John Lennon got it': Micky Dolenz reflects on the Monkees' proper place in music history

The orchestrations were done in a three-hour session that Hayward "was lucky enough to attend" with Knight conducting the London Festival Orchestra.

"They just ran through it one time," Hayward says. "Wonderful orchestral players. Then they had a tea break. And then they recorded it from beginning to end, the whole 48 minutes, and that was it."

It was Knight who first approached them with the concept for the album, having gone to see them play at the 100 Club on Oxford Street.

"He was so well-respected at Decca, the musicians knew that if Peter had written these orchestrations, it was going to be good," Hayward says.

"So there was no fiddling around. It wasn't like 'Oh, I'm just doing a pop session where I'm doing a string line for three minutes.'"

The slow rise of 'Nights in White Satin'

The album was a moderate success at first, but slowly gathered steam, finally cracking the U.S. Top 10 five years later, a breakthrough largely fueled by FM airplay of "Nights in White Satin," a single written and sung by Hayward with a spoken-word poem recited by Pinder.

Hayward credits "the birth of FM radio and disc jockeys not having to do Top 40 stuff all the time" for the single's success.

Another factor was people becoming more interested in owning nice stereo systems.

"We were lucky enough that we were with Decca," Hayward says.

"Their whole ethos was about the quality of sound. So we were lucky to have beautifully recorded records. It wasn't just about singles that had a solid middle sound to them with not much else. It was full frequency stuff."

"Nights in White Satin" eventually hit No. 2 on Billboard's Hot 100, where it spent two weeks.

'The best band in the world' and why he quit: A conversation with Steve Hackett of Genesis

'We just kind of drifted apart'

That same year, 1972, produced their first chart-topping U.S. album, "Seventh Sojourn," which featured a hit single written and sung by Lodge, "I'm Just a Singer (In a Rock and Roll Band)."

By that point, they'd amassed a string of U.S. pop hits — "Go Now," "Tuesday Afternoon," "Question," "The Story in Your Eyes," "Isn't Life Strange" and "Nights in White Satin."

Shortly after the success of "Seventh Sojourn," they went on hiatus in 1974 with Hayward and Lodge collaborating on an album titled "Blue Jays" the following year.

Hayward also recorded the Top 5 U.K. single "Blue Guitar" with 10cc but released it as Hayward and Lodge before launching his solo career in earnest with the aptly titled "Songwriter."

The same year Hayward's solo album hit the streets, 1977, the Moodies reunited.

"We came back to put an album together for Decca," Hayward says. "But it didn't suit Mike, and it didn't suit our producer Tony Clarke. Fortunately, nothing was said that couldn't be unsaid. But we just kind of drifted apart."

Pinder quit before they finished tracking "Octave" and his bandmates soldiered on without him, recruiting Patrick Moraz of Yes to tour on the album.

"In a way, that started a new era," Hayward says.

'Wildest Dreams' come true in the '80s

The '80s got off a promising start when the "Long Distance Voyager" album topped the U.S. charts and ushered in another wave of big hit singles in the States, from "Gemini Dream" and "The Voice" to "Your Wildest Dreams" and "I Know You're Out There Somewhere."

"Through the '80s, we were lucky enough to really have some pop hits, which was a real joy," Hayward says.

"I kind of missed it the first time. I was elsewhere, mystically, emotionally and a lot of ways chemically as well. But the second time round, I was present, awake and aware. And it was wonderful."

Hayward was a huge fan of music of that era.

"If I could only have one decade of music, it would be the '80s," he says.

He especially enjoyed working with Tony Visconti, a producer best known for his work with David Bowie and T. Rex. Visconti started working with the Moodies on "The Other Side of Life," which spawned their biggest '80s hit, "Your Wildest Dreams."

Hayward loved Visconti's disciplined production style, "not hanging around for weeks trying to make a song, just doing it and committing to it."

David Bowie remembered: Tony Visconti reflects on 45-year history with Bowie

The Moody Blues' Hall of Fame induction

The Moody Blues gave their final performance at their 2018 induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, an honor that ended up being a bit more meaningful than Hayward had anticipated.

"If you're European or British then it's not something you think about a lot," Hayward says.

"But for the American fans, it was really important. And the more it was talked about, the more I realized that it was a wonderful thing to happen to us and I'm so glad it did."

In addition to still touring, Hayward has new music coming out this year. And he enjoys revisiting the days of "Days of Future Passed" in concert with guitarist Mike Dawes and Julie Ragins, who toured with the Moodies for many years on vocals and keyboards, and Karmen Gould on flute and vocals.

The joy of rediscovering the songs on tour

They're performing the songs on which his legacy has come to rest in arrangements the songwriter feels are much closer in spirit to how he envisioned the material.

"We're presenting the songs kind of as they were written," he says.

"So it's a joy for me to rediscover these songs again, some things I only played for two or three days when they were recorded. You sort of maybe touch the essence of them a bit clearer in this format, because you can't sort of hide behind a drum kit."

He's been rotating songs in and out of the set.

"But there's a few things that I have to play, because I wouldn't get off stage without playing them, really," he says, with a laugh.

As luck would have it, he still enjoys playing the songs he has to play.

"The big songs I've done over the years, you can do them in soundcheck and you can get everything pretty perfect," he says.

"But when there's an audience there, it brings some magic into the room that couldn't possibly exist in any other way. And that really is a joy. The audience bring something to it and there's something that's created in that moment."

Justin Hayward Brings Tuesday Afternoon and Nights in White Satin to Celebrity Theatre

justin hayward nights tour

Review and Photos by Fred Kuhlman Promoter: Danny Zelisko Presents ( https://www.dannyzeliskopresents.com/ ) Venue: Celebrity Theatre ( https://celebritytheatre.com/ ) Date:  Thursday May 19 th , 2022

Back in the 60s almost everyone listened to AM radio, for the most part that was all there was.  It was everywhere, in cars and transistor radios.  AM radio had 3 things, Sports, News and Top 40 music stations.  Personally, after a while I got tired of hearing the same old 10 songs almost every hour.  My father was a gadget junkie.  He was always looking for that new toy, but rarely known now to use them.  In the 60s the big thing was the console stereo system.  It was a huge piece of furniture that contained a record player and AM/FM stereo.  FM was just starting up in the mid-60s and most of the stations in the Midwest were run by colleges.

justin hayward nights tour

One night I was tired of listening to Top 40 and switch over to FM.  I scanned the bands and finally discovered this little station out of Detroit Michigan that was playing music I had not heard before.  It was 1967 and there was no internet, we got all of our music news from either Rolling Stone Magazine or from the local station you listened to.  So, one Sunday night I was listening to this new FM station and they announced that they would be playing a new album without commercial breaks.  This was something really new for me and so I listened while doing homework.  All of a sudden, I hear:

“Cold hearted orb that rules the night, Removes the colours from our sight. Red is grey and yellow white, But we decide which is right, And which is an illusion.”

My attention was now focused on the music.  For the next 40 some minutes I was enthralled by this strange new music form.  This was the first time I had ever heard rock & roll music with a full orchestra.  I had to wait until the end of the album to hear what it was and the bands name (I missed it at the beginning).  I discovered this new British band called The Moody Blues and the album was Days of Future Passed .  So, the next time I was at the mall, I went to JC Pennys to the record department and found the album and bought it.  From this point on I became a huge The Moody Blues fan.  I bought all of their albums.  After moving to Phoenix, AZ in the 70s, I was lucky enough to see them perform live three times.

It has been 55 years since that amazing album came out.  Unfortunately, only 2 members of The Moody Blues are still around, John Lodge and Justin Hayward .  Justin was the lead singer and guitarist for the band and wrote many of the bands hit singles.  Justin was always known for his acoustic guitars and his bright red Gibson ES-335 guitar.  I actually have a photo I took of Justin holding that red guitar at the 1980 show I saw.

Tonight’s show started with Mike Dawes coming out to perform a number of unique acoustic guitar songs.  Mike is a very accomplished players and added a bit of quirkiness to both is presentation and music.  After Mike played about 6 songs, he left the stage and we had a small intermission.

justin hayward nights tour

The main show started with Justin Hayward entering the stage and starting to perform “The Eastern Sun” from his solo career.  Even after all these years, Justin voice and guitar playing skills are still the same, outstanding.  Slowly other members of the band were introduced and entered the stage.  Justin was first joined by keyboardist Julie Ragins.  Julie has played with The Moody Blues and now joins Justin on his tours.  She also provides backing vocals.  Next on the stage came Mike Dawes.  He provided accompanying guitar work.  Last up as Karmen Gould.  She plays flute that is necessary for many of the classic The Moody Blues songs.  She also provided backup vocals.  All of the members of the band were on the stage for the third song, “Tuesday Afternoon” from the Days of Future Passed album.  This was the start of many standing ovations.

At different points in the show, Justin would tell little stories about either the next song or about where he grew up in England.

Since Justin was only playing acoustic guitars, his selection of songs was more styled around that sound and not the heavier and faster Rock & Roll songs The Moody Blues has created.  He played “The Actor” and “Never Comes a Day” which were perfect for acoustic guitars.  By the time he got to “Nights in White Satin” everyone was transfixed and swaying with the music.  This got the biggest standing ovation of the night.

The biggest difference between a John Lodge show and a Justin Hayward show is the style of performance and song selection.  John Lodge has a large band and plays more of the heavier and faster Rock & Roll songs by The Moody Blues like “Ride My See-Saw”.  Justin Hayward has gone the opposite direction and has a small tight band and performs song that better fit with acoustic guitars.  Each artist’s show is awesome and I highly recommend you see both.

My biggest regret was that it was not all of The Moody Blues performing the songs.  I really missed Graeme Edge on drums, Ray Thomas on flute and Mike Pinder on keyboards.  That band mix had an amazing sound and they harmonized very well together.  But alas this will never happen again.

Mike Dawes is an English fingerstyle guitar player known for composing, arranging and performing multiple parts simultaneously on the guitar.  He reminds me a lot of Shawn Phillips.  Both are guitar players but use technology, pedals and other equipment to create sound and looping to enhance their acoustic guitar playing.

Mike was both entertaining and extremely talented.  If you get a chance to see Mike perform, you will also be impressed.  Personally, I would love to see Mike come back to Phoenix and perform at the Musical Instrument Museum (MIM).  I believe that is the perfect location and crowd for Mike’s unique performance.  I would love to see Mike again.

Having started the ball rolling as a songwriter in his own right with a couple of solo singles, he joined T he Moody Blues in the summer of 1966. Hitting his stride immediately with the single Fly Me High , he followed it up with the classic hit songs Nights in White Satin and Tuesday Afternoon from the seminal album Days of Future Past . This album went on to become a favourite of the NASA astronauts and was taken aboard the Atlantis shuttle space craft by Chief astronaut “Hoot” Gibson on many missions.

This purple patch showed no sign of abating as Justin created other classic, era and genre-defining hits Question , The Voice , I Know You’re Out There Somewhere and Your Wildest Dreams .  These laid the foundation for the incredible success story of The Moody Blues – as well as his solo work – which continues to this day.

When the Moody Blues took a break from touring in 1975, Justin worked on the Blue Jays album, followed by the hit single Blue Guitar (recorded with the members of 10cc). Although the Moodies continued to record and tour at the highest level, Justin also found time to create several solo albums: Songwriter , Night Flight , Moving Mountains and The View From the Hill .

Proving that he could write massive hits outside of The Moody Blues , Justin hit the Top Ten globally in 1978 with Forever Autumn – created for Jeff Wayne’s War of the Worlds album.  Becoming, even for a writer of his stature, a signature song, this was the spur to him taking to the stage – for five years, from 2005 – 2010, and starring in the spectacular live stadium production.

In the 1980s he was made a member of the famous ‘SODS’  (The Society of Distinguished Songwriters) and in 2012 he was elected ‘King SOD’.  He also collaborated in 1989 with Mike Batt and the London Philharmonic Orchestra and recorded the album ‘Classic Blue’.

In March 1997 Justin was chosen as the subject for the TV show ‘This Is Your Life’ in the presence of many of his friends including Marty Wilde, Lionel Bart and astronaut “Hoot” Gibson.

In 2005 he was presented with ‘The Golden Note’ award from ASCAP, the top honour for a British writer, and he has appeared in Nashville regularly with other songwriters in showcase events. In 2013 The Performing Rights Society in the UK awarded him his second Ivor Novello statue for ‘Outstanding Achievement’.

Whilst releasing solo albums and DVDs and working on many different projects, including new solo recordings, Justin continues to tour with the Moody Blues all across the world. Justin records in Italy and France of which he says, “Spending time making music in a beautiful place with your friends is every songwriter’s dream”. His latest album of new songs Spirits Of The Western Sky – for Eagle Rock – was followed by several solo tours, and most recently a ‘live in concert’ DVD ‘Spirits…Live’, which reached No1 on the Billboard Video chart. “My acoustic solo tours give the perfect balance to the big production of The Moody Blues concerts. I’m so lucky to have both”. His live solo show is currently being shown all over the USA on PBS TV.

Spirits Of The Western Sky  (Eagle Rock Ent.) was followed by 2016’s  All The Way  (Eagle Rock Ent.) – a compilation of Hayward’s solo work and live performances of Moody Blues classics — and the recently released EP  One Summer Day / My Juliette  (Eagle Rock Ent.), featuring two brand new songs.

He is consistently touring the globe with The Moody Blues, and as a solo artist – accompanied by Julie Ragins, and Mike Dawes, one of a new generation of young exceptional and gifted guitar players.

“I have spent most of my life, so far, on the road”, says Justin. “Playing live and creating a small piece of magic in a room is like a drug to me, one that I never want to give up”. His is a talent that has helped soundtrack more than a generation and created a legacy that remains undimmed.
