Luxury Cruises to Malaysia

Cruises to Malaysia bring you up close to tropical jungles, thrilling outdoor adventures, the best beaches, and vibrant, exciting cities that offer an eclectic Southeast Asian experience to be remembered. This beautiful country is famous for its natural splendor and balance between island life, cosmopolitan cities, incredible food, and cultural and religious diversity.

As well as visiting Malaysia’s capital, Kuala Lumpur, you’ll sail to the exquisite island regions of Penang and Langkawi. From rainforest treks to beach days, ancient temples, and centuries-old markets, you'll enjoy the best of Southeast Asia and its many wonders with an unforgettable luxury cruise to Malaysia with Celebrity Cruises.

Malaysia Cruise Highlights

Malls and markets in kuala lumpur.

Kuala Lumpur is one of the region’s top shopping destinations with endless options to choose from. There are over 50 shopping malls in the city as well as outdoor markets, street vendors, and bespoke clothing stores and tailors. Head to Suria KLCC for luxury brand shopping with over 300 stores to choose from. Walk the busy Petaling Street in Chinatown where you’ll find handmade bags, jewelry, souvenirs, and clothing at the many tiny shops.

Tropical Islands

On the Malay island of Penang and archipelago of Langkawi, you’ll explore biodiverse natural parks, small island fishing villages, and some of the best beaches in all of Malaysia. Take in local Malaysian culture at your own pace as you hop from island to island and see what makes each stop unique and memorable.

A Cultural Melting Pot

Malaysia is famous for its blended cultures and religions, with Chinese, Indian and Malay cultures intertwining to make up one of the most interesting mixes of people and traditions on Earth. You’ll find mosques and Buddhist holy sites that share the same neighborhood, as well as colorful Hindu temples. Malaysia’s cuisine, as a result of this cultural blend, is unique, featuring a range of excitingly spicy, tangy dishes.

Malaysia Cruise Ports

Langkawi is a dreamy island destination offering abundant natural beauty, beaches, and activities for the whole family. Learn about sustainable farming and sample delicious local jackfruit, mangoes, and pungent durian on a trip to the MARDI Langkawi Agro Technology Park. Hike to the Durian Perangin waterfalls, where you can picnic on the nearby rocks or take a swim in the natural plunge pool at its base. See Langkawi’s more secluded, smaller islands by boat, learn about the island’s many myths and legends, and tour some of the best beaches off the beaten path.

Penang’s richly-layered culture and access to nature have long drawn travelers to this lush Malaysian paradise. Explore the street art scene with a stroll down Beach Street in George Town. Take your senses to new heights on the glass-bottomed Rainbow Skywalk in Penang’s largest tower, an entertainment-themed complex known as “The Top”. End your visit with a tropical cocktail as you relax on the sand at the secluded Monkey Beach in Penang National Park.

Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur is a Southeast Asian mega-city that boasts efficient transportation, incredible food, and a fascinating melting pot of Malaysian culture and history against a decidedly modern backdrop. Gaze over the skyscraper-studded skyline and lush green surroundings from the observation deck near the top of the Petronas Towers, among the world’s tallest buildings. Admire the majestic colored facade and learn about the Hindu history of Kuala Lumpur at the Sri Mahamariamman, the oldest temple of its kind in the city. Before heading back on board, sample some delicious street foods like the Tamil-inspired nasi kandar, made with steamed curried rice, chicken, cinnamon, and anise

Malaysia Cruise Itineraries

Depart from Singapore; Mumbai, India; or Benoa, Bali on a 12-night cruise to Malaysia and the surrounding region. These cruises typically stop at six ports and cover a wide area in Southeast Asia with four or five days at sea to enjoy the ship. All itineraries include overnight stays, so you can see more, do more, and immerse yourself in these fabulous destinations.

Itineraries

Why cruise to malaysia with celebrity cruises.

You’ll visit destinations that inspire, with a perfect blend of nature, adventure, and cosmopolitan lifestyle. Shop for trinkets on the Chinese Clan Jetties in Penang. The skyline of Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia during a golden sunset

Cruise to Kuala Lumpur (Port Klang), Malaysia

Kuala lumpur (port klang) shore excursions, amazing experiences coming soon., sorry, there are no excursions for this port at this moment., things to do in kuala lumpur (port klang).

The very tall and modern twin towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Towering Views

The very tall and modern twin towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Admire Kuala Lumpur's skyscrapers, including the symbol of the city: the Petronas Twin Towers. Tickets to the Skybridge sell out early; it might be easier to get a ticket up to the observation deck of Menara KL Tower, which stands 1,000 feet tall. The KL Tower is also the official observation point for sighting the moon to determine the start of the holy month of Ramadan.

Yellow lanterns hanging on the roof of the temple in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Decorative Diversity

Yellow lanterns hanging on the roof of the temple in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

See some of Kuala Lumpur's older buildings too. The Sri Mahamariamman Temple is covered with Hindu statues, and Jamek Mosque is in the Moorish style (you can tour parts of the inside enter if dressed conservatively). The National Museum is beautiful, too, and has replica Malay houses inside. The intricately decorated six tiers of Thean Hou Temple are a Kuala Lumpur landmark.

The Batu Caves with a gold statue of Lord Murugan at the entrance near Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Holy Spelunking

The Batu Caves, in the Kuala Lumpur suburb of Selangor, have Hindu shrines within them. You'll need to climb 272 steps to see the largest Cathedral Cave; there are several smaller caves, too. The 140-foot-tall golden statue at the entrance is Murugan, a Hindu deity.

Satay on a stick found as street food in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Local Cuisine

Kuala Lumpur is a street-food mecca. Pick up satay skewers of grilled meat in peanut sauce. Cruise to Kuala Lumpur and try Malaysia's national dish nasi lemak , coconut rice with pandan leaf, spicy sambal, cucumber slices and a choice of meat — fried chicken is a favorite option. Indulge in the flatbread dish roti canai : Enjoy it in savory form with chicken or mutton, or try the dessert version with bananas and ice cream.

Lanterns hung in the shopping mall of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur is known for its excellent shopping and for having prices better than Hong Kong and Singapore. Try the downtown neighborhood of Bukit Bintang, Suria KLCC below the Petronas Towers, or Chinatown's Central Market, also called Pasar Seni. During your Kuala Lumpur cruise, look for traditional fabrics like batik and Malay brocade.

Cruises from/to Penang, Malaysia

Penang, malaysia cruise port.

Cruise to the gorgeous island of Penang, Malaysia, which is known as the “Pearl of the Orient” for its unique and exciting culture. The island is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site because of its grand culture and exquisite architecture. The Kek Lok Si Temple is one of the largest temples in all of Southeast Asia, making it a great attraction on this cruise port’s must-see list. The beautiful surrounding gardens, the seven-story Pagoda of Ten Thousand Buddha’s, and many bronze statues also make Penang an interesting site to visit! Not only is Penang, Malaysia the northern gateway to Malaysia, it’s the oldest British settlement in this country. Not to be overlooked, the beaches on this island are stunning and perfect for relaxation, swimming and, of course, taking pictures. Below are a few of our favorite things to do while cruising to Penang, Malaysia:

  • Sample the nasi kandar, Penangites’ favorite local dish found almost anywhere on the island. Penang is also known to be the food capital of Malaysia!
  • Shop for perfume, cosmetics, clothes, shoes – you name it! Enjoy bargaining with the locals for the best price.
  • Visit the Kek Lok Si Temple, the largest in all of Southeast Asia, where you can also find beautiful gardens, the seven-story Pagoda of Ten Thousand Buddha’s and bronze statues.
  • Go for a swim or relax on one of Penang’s incredible beaches. If you’re looking for watersports to try – they have it all, including snorkeling, sailing, scuba diving, parasailing, windsurfing and waterskiing.

Royal Caribbean cruise ships to start sailing from Singapore to Malaysia on 30 June

Starting 30 June, those residing in Singapore will be able to take that much-deserved holiday to offshore international destinations with cruise ships of Royal Caribbean International, making port calls in Malaysia.

In a statement, Royal Caribbean said that travellers will be able to visit Malaysian tourist destinations in Kuala Lumpur and Penang onboard the Spectrum of the Seas.

“We are thrilled to be the first cruise line in Singapore to reconnect holidaymakers with Asia’s beautiful destinations once again,” said Angie Stephen, vice president and managing director, Asia-Pacific, RCI.

Stephen noted that everyone, from local guests to travel partners, is excited about the resumption of cruising to international holiday destinations near Singapore .

“Singapore is a top destination in and of itself, and its proximity to neighbouring countries makes it easy to venture out and explore,” said Stephen.

All the details about the Singapore-Malaysia Royal Caribbean cruise trip

Two new itineraries to choose from.

Penang

The cruise line said that it is offering new three- and four-night itineraries for travellers to comfortably enjoy their holidays both on the ship and ashore.

Among the places guests will be able to visit on land are the St. George’s Church in Penang and the Batu Caves in Kuala Lumpur .

All guests must have six months’ validity on their passport and updated MySejahtera app ahead of sailing, the cruise line added. Travellers will also have to adhere to local vaccination requirements.

Eager holidaymakers can book their cruise from Singapore to Malaysia on the official website of the cruise line.

Talks on for alignment of cruise policies

Annie Chang, director of cruise, Singapore Tourism Board, said that talks are on with other South East Asian governments to align cruise protocols and policies.

“Port calls will provide more vacation options and we look forward to seeing more first-time and repeat cruisers in the coming year as more ports in the region open up,” Chang said, adding that the Malaysian port calls are an exciting start.

Port calls by cruise ships were halted by Singapore in March 2020. In November the same year, the city-state started cruises to nowhere, a system in which ships do not stop at any port other than the one from where they departed, to help safe cruising during the pandemic.

MIAMI, May 16 –  Malaysia is ready to welcome International cruise travellers as borders fully reopen, in conjunction with Tourism Malaysia’s participation at the 2022 Seatrade Cruise Global Expo, for a three-day event in Miami from 25 th  to 28 th  April 2022 as part of efforts to promote cruise tourism and to attract more ship operators to berth in Malaysia.

Malaysia promotes its shore excursions, port facilities such as port-of-call and home-port, as well as pre- and post-cruise tours, where travellers could immerse themselves in Malaysia’s diverse cultures and bio-diversities, on land and underwater. The Malaysian delegation was led by the Vice President of Tourism Malaysia in Los Angeles, Mr. Akbal Setia.

Tourism Malaysia’s participation at the Seatrade Cruise Global Expo 2022 aimed to network and fulfil business appointments, with the Florida Travel Industry Association (TIA), the presentation of Southeast Asia (ASEAN) NTO and Pre-Scheduled-Appointment (PSA) with cruise travel industry players, and interview with local media in the USA on Malaysia’s destinations and tourism products.

Malaysia is one of the most attractive cruise destinations in the region and is also on the most round-the-world cruise routes. Situated in the heart of Southeast Asia, some of the world’s best cruise ships operate in Malaysian waters and offer an excellent combination of recreation facilities, entertainment, gourmet meals, and exotic destinations.

Mr. Akbal said: “We are now back into travel normalcy; and this is the right time for us to promote our organisations and partnerships, in particular, Malaysia as the next point of embarkation for cruise travellers into Asia and Southeast Asia region.”

Also present, the State of Selangor, through its tourism agency Tourism Selangor, in promoting the Port Klang Cruise Terminal and site excursions such as visiting the Mah Meri Cultural Village, Sultan Selangor Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque, Batu Caves, Sekinchan Town, Royal Klang Town Heritage Walk Tour, and many more under the “Splendid Selangor, Take Me Anywhere” programme.

Prior to the pandemic, Malaysia received more than 600 ship calls and 900,000 cruise passengers, and over the years welcomed well-known cruise liners in the industry from Celebrity Cruises, Regal Cruises, Star Cruises, Seabourn, Royal Caribbean, TUI Cruises, Holland America, and others.

Starting 1 May 2022, fully-vaccinated inbound travellers are no longer required to undergo pre-departure and on-arrival COVID-19 tests, including children aged 12 and below as well as for those who have been infected with COVID-19 within six to 60 days before departure to Malaysia. Travel insurance will also not be a prerequisite for foreigners entering the country.

However, a senior official in the administration of US President Joe Biden denied Amirabdollahian's statement, saying Washington had had contact with Iran through Swiss intermediaries but did not get 72 hours' notice.

Israel will exact price from Iran when time is right, says war Cabinet minister

Thousands gather in Iran in show of support for attack on Israel

"That is absolutely not true,” the official said. “They did not give a notification, nor did they give any sense of ... 'these will be the targets, so evacuate them.'"

Tehran sent the United States a message only after the strikes began, and the intent was to be "highly destructive" said the official, speculating that Iran was saying it had given notice in order to cover embarrassment at the attack's failure.

"We received a message from the Iranians as this was ongoing, through the Swiss. This was basically suggesting that they were finished after this, but it was still an ongoing attack. So that was (their) message to us," the US official said.

However, Iraqi, Turkish and Jordanian officials each said Iran had provided early warning of the attack last week, including some details.

The attack with drones, cruise missiles and ballistic missiles risked causing terrible casualties and triggering massive Israeli and US retaliation that could have spiralled into a regional conflagration.

US officials said on Friday and Saturday they expected an imminent attack and urged Iran against one, with Biden tersely saying his only message to Tehran was: "Don't."

Two Iraqi sources, including a government security adviser and a security official, said Iran had used diplomatic channels to inform Baghdad about the attack at least three days before it happened.

The exact timing of the attack was not disclosed at that point, but was passed to Iraqi security and military authorities hours before the strikes, allowing Baghdad to close its airspace and avoid fatal accidents.

"The government clearly understood from the Iranian officials that the US military in Iraq was also aware of the attack in advance," said the Iraqi security official.

A senior Jordanian official said Iran had summoned Arab envoys in Tehran on Wednesday to inform them of their intention to carry out an attack, though it did not specify the timing.

Asked if Iran had also given details about the targets and kind of weapons to be used, the Jordanian source did not respond directly but gave an indication that that was the case.

An Iranian source briefed on the matter said Iran had informed the US through diplomatic channels that included Qatar, Turkey and Switzerland about the scheduled day of the attack, assuring it would be conducted in a manner to avoid provoking a response.

How far escalation can be avoided remains in question. Biden has told Israel the United States will not join any Israeli retaliation, the US official said.

However, Israel is still weighing its response and will "exact the price from Iran in the fashion and timing that is right for us", Israeli minister Benny Gantz said on Sunday.
