Beloved comedian, and all-round TV icon , Peter Kay has announced that he’s going back on tour . It’s been over a decade since Kay has entertained the masses, having put on his last collection of shows in 2010. That particular run earned him the Guinness World Record for the biggest-selling stand-up tour of all time , having sold over a million tickets for 113 dates.

Kay’s upcoming tour will be much smaller overall, however there’s an extra special addition to the schedule, as Kay has now revealed he’ll be doing a monthly residency at London’s O2 Arena. “It’s good to get back to what I love doing best, stand-up comedy, and if there’s ever a time people need a laugh it’s now ,” Kay said. “And with the cost of living at an all-time high, ticket prices are starting from £35 — the same price they were on my previous tour in 2010.” Kay’s Better Late Than Never tour kicks off this December, starting in Manchester before making his way across the UK. Here’s everything you need to know before buying tickets for Kay’s hotly-anticipated comeback.

Peter Kay’s Monthly Residency At London’s O2

When the beloved comedian revealed the dates and locations for his upcoming UK tour, London-based fans were disheartened to have been skipped . But it turns out, Kay had bigger plans in mind for the capital city. During an appearance on The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show, the comedian announced a monthly residency at London’s O2 Arena from Dec. 16, 2022 to Nov. 18, 2023.

“Of course I’m not going to not do London,” he said. With this move, Kay becomes the first artist in history to perform monthly at London’s O2 for a whole year. The artist also expressed gratitude for fans, who welcomed his decade-late tour with warmth: “ Huw Edwards is going to queue up for tickets… Him? I cannot get my head (around) it.”

Where Can I Buy Peter Kay Tickets?

Tickets for Kay’s tour will be very popular, so it’s imperative to act fast. The comedian had planned to do shows in 2018 , but had to cancel due to family matters. However, he briefly appeared at a benefit concert marking the reopening of the Manchester Arena following the terrorist attack in May 2017, in addition to a couple of shows in 2021. Both shows at the Manchester O2 Apollo sold out within 30 minutes , so you better be prepared at 10 a.m. on November 12 when tickets for his upcoming tour go on sale. Tickets will start at £35, the same amount as during Kay’s 2010 tour, and there will be no pre-sale.

Tickets will be available via Ticketmaster UK , Ticketmaster IE , Gigs and Tours , and Kay’s website .

Peter Kay adds extra tour dates to meet ticket demand

Comedian extends standup tour to late 2024 as hundreds of thousands queue online to secure seats

Hundreds of thousands of Britons have been queueing online to try to buy Peter Kay tickets, with the comedian having put on more than 20 extra dates to meet the demand.

After thousands of pre-sale tickets for Peter Kay Live sold on Thursday and Friday, the Manchester Evening News reported that up to 2 million people had queued on Saturday.

Many fans reported seeing messages on the Ticketmaster website telling them there were more than 300,000 people ahead of them in the virtual line – roughly the population of Nottingham.

The tour was originally set to end in August 2023, but the additional dates mean it will now run until November 2024.

Ticketmaster tweeted: “As expected, Peter Kay is super popular this morning. To make it as fair as possible, we have put everyone in a queue. Be patient and don’t refresh or you’ll lose your place.”

A number of extra dates were added to the tour after “unprecedented” demand left many fans unable to access apps and websites offering pre-sale tickets. These included two new shows in Birmingham, four in London and six in Manchester.

Channel 5 News host Dan Walker was among those in the queue, tweeting: “Trying to get Peter Kay tickets is like trying to get an appointment at the GP! ‘Please hold … there are currently 170,000 people ahead of you in the queue’.” Fellow comic Jason Manford joked: “Phew lucky enough to get 2x Peter Kay tickets. For sale 2x Peter Kay tickets, £3500 each ono.”

Shortly before 11am, the Liverpool Echo reported that all tickets for the city’s M&S Bank arena were sold out.

Some ticket resale sites, such as Viagogo, had seats available for as much as £1,000, with many people calling for more to be done to stop touts and to control the number of purchases.

Others reported that the site had crashed due to the high demand.

Kay’s comeback from a five-year hiatus was announced during an ad break in the series launch of ITV’s I’m a Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here! during which Kay was seen carrying a rolled-up carpet into a house.

The advert concluded with the fans asking Kay whether he had finally bought his mother a bungalow – a reference to the comic’s previous Mum Wants a Bungalow tour. Kay replied that he had, and that his mother now wanted a new carpet to go in it.

after newsletter promotion

Kay appeared on Zoe Ball’s BBC Radio 2 breakfast show on Wednesday and said he had been “overwhelmed” by the response to his return, even before his tickets had gone on sale.

Announcing his new dates, the 49-year-old from Bolton said: “It’s good to get back to what I love doing best, standup comedy, and if there’s ever a time people need a laugh it’s now.” After successfully securing his tickets for a date in London next summer, comedy fan Ben Andrews, from London, said: “The pressure was on to get tickets – especially as I’m married to a northerner.

“I was in the digital waiting room from 9.45am, and immediately had 50k people ahead of me. With 20k capacity, I had to cross my fingers.” His wife, Sarah Farrell, from Manchester, added: “To give us a better chance, I joined the queue too, but I did so late, panicked, and ended up queueing for 2024. At one point there were a quarter of a million people ahead of me so I just went and put the kettle on.”

As well as touring the UK, Kay will become the first comedian to be given his own residency at the O2 Arena in London. He will perform there once a month between December 2022 and November 2023.

In 2010, Kay achieved a place in the Guinness Book of World Records for the biggest selling standup tour of all time, playing to more than 1.2 million people.

He had been due to go on the road in 2017, but cancelled those shows because of “unforeseen family circumstances”.

How to get tickets for Peter Kay’s 2023 tour

New dates have just been added due to unprecedented demand

Peter Kay,  the iconic Bolton-born comic, will be performing  his first live tour in more than a decade in 2024. The comedian holds the 2010 Guinness Book of World Records for the biggest-selling comedy tour of all time, so you can bet that getting your hands on some tickets this time round is going to be tricky (but worth it).

When the first batch of tickets went live, O2 and Virgin said the sale was ‘by far the highest demand we’ve ever seen for priority tickets in 15 years’ and the O2 priority ticket website crashed as a result. More dates were added to the tour, but for any disappointed fans who couldn’t tickets for any of those either, we’ve got great news.  Kay added 11 new dates in 2023-2025, bringing the total number of shows to 121 for the ‘Better Late Than Never’ tour.

These dates span Glasgow, Newcastle, Birmingham, Sheffield, Manchester, Leeds, London, Dublin, Belfast, Nottingham and Liverpool, so there’s bound to be one vaguely nearly you.

If you’re planning to catch one of Kay’s live shows as he tours the country in 2024, h ere’s everything to know about his return and how to get tickets.

Why did the last tour get cancelled?

This tour is a comeback after the comedian cancelled a 14-month long stand-up tour back in 2017.

What has he said about the tour?

Is he doing a special residency in London?

Peter Kay's new 2022-2023 tour announcement has been met with shock and delight from fans after the funnyman's nearly five-year stint away from the limelight.

The Bolton-born comedian dropped the shock announcement during the first advert break of the I'm A Celebrity launch show, dropping jaws across the country as he appeared on screen carrying a large rolled-up carpet.

In the 30-second ad, a man is shown filming Peter through his car windscreen as he shouts questions over to him.

"Hey look, it's Peter Kay. Hey, garlic bread!" the man shouts, quoting Peter's iconic joke.

"It's the future, lads," the comedian quips back as he wrangles the carpet down a driveway.

"When are you back on tour?" the man asks, and Peter replies: "Next month!"

After telling the man that the stand-up tickets go on sale this Saturday, Peter walks off carrying the carpet while explaining he'd bought his mum a bungalow but now she wants a new carpet - a callback to his last tour titled Mum Wants A Bungalow.

An off-screen voice then announced the comedian's first live stand-up tour in 12 years.

How to get Peter Kay tour tickets

Tickets to the Car Share star's tour go on sale at 10am on Saturday November 12.

They will be available through gigsandtours.com , ticketmaster.co.uk ticketmaster.ie and peterkay.co.uk .

How much are Peter Kay tour tickets?

As part of the announcement of his tour, the comedian also gave fans some welcome news: he was slashing the price of his tickets.

"It's good to get back to what I love doing best, stand-up comedy and if there’s ever a time people need a laugh it’s now," he said.

"And with the cost of living at an all-time high, ticket prices are starting from £35. The same price they were on my previous tour in 2010."

The 22-date tour is scheduled to take place between December 2022 and August 2023, although some months have just one or two dates. All of them are scheduled on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and there are no venues in the south of England that have been picked to host his performances.

Peter's last live stand-up tour in 2010 holds the Guinness World Record for the biggest-selling comedy tour of all time, in which 1.2 million people came to watch him perform.

He was set to smash his own record with a sold-out live arena tour in 2017 but in December of that year shocked fans by cancelling the entire run due to personal reasons .

"Due to unforeseen family circumstances I deeply regret that I am having to cancel all of my upcoming work projects," he tweeted.

"This unfortunately includes my upcoming stand-up tour, Dance For Life shows and any outstanding live work commitments.

"My sincerest apologies. This decision has not been taken lightly and I’m sure you’ll understand my family must always come first.

"I’ve always endeavoured to protect my family’s privacy from the media. I hope that the media and the public will continue to respect our privacy at this time. Once again I’m very sorry."

Peter has previously spoken about the impact touring has on his family - wife Susan Gargan, their eldest son Charlie and their two other children, whose names have never been made public.

"Once you have a family, the only downside of touring is touring," he one said.

It's believed the family temporarily moved to Tipperary in Ireland after he quit showbiz in 2017.

Since then, Peter has made sporadic public appearances for his charity dance-a-thons and in two special episodes of his sitcom Peter Kay's Car Share, which aired in May 2018.

How much will tickets cost for Peter Kay’s new tour?

Prices for the show will start from £35, rising to £135 for the most expensive seats. The comedian says ticket prices for the tour were set to match those of 2010.

On the See Tickets website, tickets for his shows start at £41.55 instead of £35, but this is due to the inclusion of admin and booking fees. The price of the tickets then increases further, depending on which type of seat you purchase.

After £41.55, the seating then goes up to £58.05 and £74.55 which all include admin and booking fees through See Tickets . The most expensive 'best seat package' costs £151 (£135 before fees) and includes a top price seat for the show, a limited edition Peter Kay gift, a Peter Kay show programme and a Peter Kay VIP laminate and lanyard.

Peter Kay has been forced to cancel two-sold out Manchester dates for a second time as venue Co-op Live continues to be plagued with problems.

It comes as the general manager of the £365m arena, Gary Roden, resigned yesterday after the comedian was forced to cancel gigs at the venue following technical complications, earlier this week.

“My apologies once again but unfortunately the Co-op Live still isn’t ready and so, as yet, remains untested for a large-scale audience,” Kay wrote in a post on X/Twitter.

“Consequently, they are having to reschedule my two shows yet again (I know I can’t believe it either).”

Safety concerns and delayed power tests meant both gigs were intially pushed back to 29 and 30 April but have now been moved to next month with gigs listed for 23 and 24 May.

“Tickets will be transferred, or refunds given if the new dates aren’t suitable,” wrote the comedian.

Roden, who also served as executive director of the arena, stepped down from his position on Thursday (25 April) after a series of problems with its long-awaited launch.

In addition to technical difficulties, Roden had received backlash for comments made to the BBC, in which he criticised smaller music venues for being “poorly run” – a statement from the venue said it did not “share the sentiment” expressed and “Co-op Live remains committed to grassroots music in Manchester and beyond”.

A spokesperson told the Manchester Evening News : “Gary Roden has decided to resign. We’d like to thank Gary for his help bringing the UK’s newest arena to live entertainment fans and wish him the best for the future.”

Kay rescheduled two sold-out Manchester dates earlier this week after it was planned that the comedian would be the first performer to grace the stage of the new 23,500 capacity Manchester arena Co-op Live .

But after the venue faced complications at a Rick Astley test event on Saturday (20 April), it issued an apology saying that Kay’s performances had been pushed back.

Kay’s two dates were moved from Tuesday 23 and Wednesday 24 April, to Monday 29 and Tuesday 30 April.

The comedian said in a statement: “I’m truly gutted as I know how disappointing this will be for everyone with tickets, but obviously it’s a brand-new venue and it’s important that everything is finished and safe for full-capacity audiences.

“Fortunately, we’ve been able to reschedule the shows to next week, (I’ll have to miss my Bums & Tums class) but hopefully I’ll see you then.”

A spokesperson for the venue said: “Following our first test event on Saturday, regretfully we have made the difficult decision to reschedule our two opening performances by Peter Kay. These dates will move from 23 April and 24 Wednesday to Monday 29 and Tuesday 30 April.”

The venue is fully electric but faced difficulties in keeping its power supply consistent in time for its opening.

The arena, which looks like a giant black box, has been built by City Football Group - owned by billionaire UAE royal and deputy prime minister Sheikh Mansour - and Oakview Music Group, co-founded by US music mogul Irving Azoff.

Harry Styles invested in the stadium and advised on some elements of its design. Local artist Liam Gallagher, the former Oasis frontman, Olivia Rodrigo, Take That and Eric Clapton are among some of the other musicians set to play there.

Peter Kay ‘in disbelief’ as he postpones Manchester shows again with £365,000,000 venue in chaos

Default author image

Peter Kay

Peter Kay has admitted he’s in ‘disbelief’ over having to postpone two major gig dates yet again thanks to issues with Manchester’s new £365million Co-op Live arena .

Fans had initially been enraged after discovering the comedian’s two gigs in Manchester had been postponed due to power supply issues at the venue with just 24 hours notice on Monday.

The 50-year-old’s gigs scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday of this week (April 23 and 24), were originally rescheduled for Monday 29 and Tuesday 30 April.

However, the Phoenix Nights star was forced to take to social media again on Friday to reveal that those dates would no longer be possible either because the stadium ‘still isn’t ready’.

New dates are set for late May.

Kay wrote in a statement he posted to X: ‘To everybody with tickets, my apologies once again but unfortunately the Co-op Live still isn’t ready and so, as yet, remains untested for a large-scale audience.

‘Consequently, they are having to reschedule my two shows yet again,’ he continued, adding in brackets: ‘I know I can’t believe it either.’

He then revealed that the first two available dates for the rescheduled shows wereThursday May 23 for the rescheduled Monday April 29 gig, and Friday May 24 for the show that had been pushed to Tuesday April 30.

‘Tickets will be transferred, or refunds given if the new dates aren’t suitable.’

Sharing in many of his fans’ feelings, he concluded: ‘It’s very disappointing but your safety is important, and I won’t compromise that.’

Co-op Live also posted an update on the social media site, revealing that The Black Keys’ show had also been pushed.

‘Since making the difficult decision to postpone the live shows at Co-op Live due to take place this week, we have been undertaking an extensive protocol of testing critical procedures to ensure all areas are ready for fans,’ the venue’s statement began.

The venue then praised Kay and The Black Keys for ‘graciously’ agreeing to reschedule their shows, with the band now due to perform on May 15 instead.

‘We deeply appreciate the impact this will have on excited fans, and sincerely apologise for the inconvenience that this change will undoubtedly cause.’

The official account went on to explain that postponing the shows ‘will give us the extra time we need to continue testing enhanced emergency communications thoroughly’.

‘This is vital to satisfy the rigorous set of guidelines and protocols that are necessary for a venue of this size to ensure that our fans, artists and staff have the safest experience possible.’

The arena’s general manager Gary Roden announced his resignation on Thursday after a slew of issues led to a delay in the opening of what will be the UK’s biggest indoor arena.

Co-op Live Arena confirmed to the BBC that Roden had resigned, shortly after his comments to the broadcaster, in which he claimed grassroots music venues were often ‘poorly run’.

A statement from the arena to the news organisation said it does not ‘share the sentiment’ expressed by its now-former general manager and that ‘Co-op Live remains committed to grassroots music in Manchester and beyond’.

The statement also thanked Mr Roden for his ‘help bringing the UK’s newest arena to live entertainment fans and wish him the best for the future’.

As per the statement to the BBC, Rebecca Kane Burton, an ex-boss of London’s O2 Arena, will step in as interim general manager.

The venue, built by developer the Oak View Group, was given planning permission in 2020 and boasted an investment from popstar Harry Styles .

The initial postponement after the Co-op Live’s first test event on Saturday had frustrated fans over the lack of notice.

@Thicktighnolie said: ‘Please tell me why I am finding this out on flipping TWITTER and have not been emailed?’

@StevieJVega quipped: ‘Rebrand to coop almost live.’

‘WOW ! Test event Saturday and 2 days later you decide to cancel at midday ! Who will compensate my hotel and rail fare I no longer need ! And to add insult we can’t make next week !! Disgusting and still not been told by ticketmaster,’ @dunkmat added.

Peter Kay

A statement posted on Peter’s official X page earlier this week had explained: ‘Following Coop Live’s first test event on Saturday, regretfully the venue operators have made the difficult decision to reschedule the two opening performances by Peter Kay.

‘These dates will move from 23 April and 24 Wednesday to Monday 29 and Tuesday 30 April.’

Co-op Live also shared a statement on their X account and told followers they decided to push back Peter’s stand-up gigs after a test event on Saturday.

The company said the reason behind the postponement was a lack of a ‘consistent’ total power supply for their ‘fully electric sustainable venue’.

Co-op Live said all tickets were still valid and ticket holders would be contacted by their point of purchase.

Refunds will also be available for those we can no longer attend.

‘We are very sorry for the inconvenience that this change will undoubtedly cause for some,’ the statement said.

Peter’s tour  Better Late Than Never is his first stand-up run in 12 years and was unsurprisingly met with astonishing demand for tickets.

Following the announcement of his return to showbiz, Peter was overwhelmed by all the support.

‘I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who came to the first shows in Manchester. It was incredible to be a part of such a happy experience,’ he said.

‘Everybody deserves a bit of joy. Here’s to a lot more shows to come!!’

Despite re-sellers flogging tour tickets on for hundreds, even thousands, of pounds, the performer had tried to keep costs low.

The performer previously promised to match prices from his last arena tour in 2010, emphasising that he wanted to help people amid the cost-of-living crisis.

Olivia Rodrigo says she's 'so bummed' by Manchester Co-op Live arena shows postponement

peter kay tour how many tickets

US musician Olivia Rodrigo has told of her disappointment after her shows were postponed at Manchester ’s troubled Co-op Live arena due to a “venue-related technical issue”.

The £365 million venue - the biggest indoor arena in the UK - had postponed its opening show for the third time just over an hour before A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie was set to perform on Wednesday, confirming there was a problem during the soundcheck.

A component of the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system used to direct air had separated from the ductwork.

The installer, contractor and third-party inspector will now have to test each nozzle to confirm they are free from the defect, said the Oak View Group.

Two hours after cancelling A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, the venue confirmed Rodrigo would not be performing on May 3 and 4.

Rodrigo expressed her disappointment to fans about not being able to perform her shows.

"I'm so bummed and I really hope to see you all soon," the chart-topping pop star wrote on Instagram, adding that she and her team were "doing our best" to reschedule the concerts.

A statement from the arena on X, formerly Twitter, said: “Due to an on-going venue-related technical issue, the scheduled performances of Olivia Rodrigo’s Guts World Tour on May 3 and 4 are being postponed.

“Ticket holders can either hold on to their tickets or obtain a refund at point of purchase.”

Three-time Grammy winner Rodrigo has taken her Guts tour across America during March and April.

The Obsessed and Drivers License singer is expected to perform at London’s O2 arena on May 14, 15, 17 and 18.

It comes after A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie confirmed “something happened” during his soundcheck at the venue on Wednesday that caused the cancellation of his show.

“I’m heated about the situation too, but safety first Manchester, I got you, just stay tuned for further info,” he said.

Venue bosses had posted a statement cancelling the performance 10 minutes after the doors were set to open for what was meant to be its first official event, as fans queued outside awaiting entry.

Tim Leiweke, chairman and chief executive of the Oak View Group, said: “The safety and security of all visiting and working on Co-op Live is our utmost priority, and we could not and will not run any event until it is absolutely safe to do so.

“Today was a very unexpected situation but without a doubt the right decision. I deeply apologise for the impact that this has had on ticket holders and fans.”

Meanwhile, the Co-operative Group said it was “disappointed” by the announcement and will seek a “full explanation” from the Oak View Group.

“As the naming rights sponsor for Co-op Live, we are shocked at the incident which has led to late cancellation of tonight’s show at the arena,” a Co-op Group spokesperson said.

“We are relieved that no-one has been injured, but we share the disappointment and frustration of ticket holders, many of whom are Co-op members, with the continuing delay to the opening of Co-op Live and the disruption that this is causing to everyone who has been looking forward to attending events.

“We will be seeking a full explanation from Oak View Group (OVG), who are responsible for the building, to the obvious questions arising from this, together with a clear plan from the Co-op Live venue management team at OVG for opening the venue and postponed and future events.

“Safety is, of course, the number one priority and it is critical that Co-op members and other ticket holders can enjoy events in a venue with the very highest levels of security and safety measures in place.”

It comes after the venue had already postponed its opening twice last week after rescheduling performances from Peter Kay and The Black Keys, and had reassured fans that A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie and Rodrigo’s shows would be going ahead this week.

Bolton-born comedian Kay was scheduled to be the first performer, but his show had to be postponed with less than 48 hours’ notice following a test event.

The rescheduled dates at the end of April were rescheduled again alongside dates for US rock duo The Black Keys as the venue had to undertake “extensive protocol of testing critical procedures to ensure all areas are ready for fans”.

The new date for the US rock band is May 15 while Kay’s performances have shifted to May 23 and 24.

The arena’s general manager, Gary Roden, announced his resignation last week following the slew of issues that led to a delay in the venue opening.

Olivia Rodrigo's Manchester Co-op Live gigs cancelled as venue faces fresh chaos

The UK's biggest indoor arena has been hit by further problems before it has even opened - with scheduled gigs, including performances from US singer Olivia Rodrigo - cancelled at short notice.

The new Co-op Live venue in Manchester was due to welcome fans at 6.30pm last night. A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie was due to perform at 8pm, according to the venue's website.

But a "venue-related technical issue" meant fans were told - via a post on the venue's social media at 6.40pm - that the gig had been cancelled.

Fans had already started to gather to enter the £365m arena, leaving many furious.

Following last night's cancellation, those planning to go to Rodrigo 's dates at the arena this weekend immediately shared concerns over whether they would go ahead and, within hours, their fears were confirmed.

"Due to an ongoing venue-related technical issue, the scheduled performances of Olivia Rodrigo's Guts World Tour on May 3 and 4 May are being postponed," the venue said in a statement on X.

"Ticket holders can either hold onto their tickets or obtain a refund at point of purchase."

Her Co-op Live gigs were two of the 10 UK dates on her European and US tour. The new dates are yet to be announced.

The three-time Grammy-winner said in an Instagram story she was upset two of her shows have been postponed.

"I've been having such a great time in Europe so far and I'm sooooo disappointed that we're unable to perform in Manchester due to on-going venue-related technical issues," she said.

"We're doing our best to reschedule the show."

In an Instagram post after A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie's last-minute cancellation, the US rapper said issues were down to "something [that] happened with the venue while I was at soundcheck".

"We are working on rescheduling in the next few days," he added. "I'm heated about the situation too, but safety first.

"Manchester, I got you. Just stay tuned for further info."

Venue bosses said the issue arose during a soundcheck when a component of the venue's heating and ventilation system separated from the ductwork.

"There was nobody injured. Although we believe this to be an isolated incident caused by a factory defect, we were not able to verify that all similar nozzles were free of such defects," Oak View Group said in a statement.

"In conjunction with wider stakeholders, Oak View Group has made the necessary call to ensure the full safety of all visitors to the venue, and to postpone the performance."

They said independent inspectors would now test all similar nozzles and that organisers would work with music managers and promoters to "limit the impact on the opening season schedule".

"Where necessary, we will identify alternate dates, and will continually reassess to provide fans with sufficient notice regarding imminent shows.

"Should shows be cancelled or rescheduled, fans will be contacted by their point of purchase and offered a full refund where preferred."

Tim Leiweke, chairman and CEO of Oak View Group who developed Co-Op Live in partnership with the City Football Group, said they could not run any event until it was "absolutely safe to do so".

"It was a very unexpected situation but without a doubt the right decision. I deeply apologise for the impact that this has had on ticket holders and fans," Mr Leiweke said.

Co-Op Live bosses had sought to reassure fans that last night's show would go ahead and shared instructions for attendees just hours before the cancellation.

With a capacity of 23,500, the Co-op Live will be the UK's largest indoor arena when it's fully open.

Headaches for the venue became clear last month when the capacity at a test event was reduced with just hours' notice.

Rick Astley had been due to perform to 11,000 arena workers and VIPs on 21 April but at the last minute, thousands of people saw their tickets cancelled.

The venue was due to fully open with Peter Kay stand-up shows on 23 and 24 April, but these dates were pushed back too amid behind-schedule tests and safety concerns.

Kay's fans were initially told the shows would take place just days later - but they were then postponed again , for a month's time.

US rock duo The Black Keys were among the acts due to take to the stage during Co-op Live's opening week. Their gig was previously pushed back to 15 May.

Earlier today, Co-op Live bosses confirmed that the venue will not open this weekend - with The Black Keys and next week's Peter Kay's gigs having to be moved. The £365m venue , which will be the UK's largest venue of its kind, was due to open tomorrow, but the gig has now been moved to mid-May.

Peter Kay's two gigs, which have already been rescheduled once, have also been moved. The back-to-back shows will now take place on Thursday, 23 May and Friday, 24 May. Given the rescheduling, the first official gig at the landmark arena will now be American rapper A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie on Wednesday, May 1, albeit at a reduced capacity.

The rescheduling comes in the wake a of a difficult week for the 23,500 capacity venue. Last Saturday, gig-goers has their tickets to a test event cancelled at the last minute due to power issues. On Monday, it was then announced that Peter Kay's two shows would need to be moved due as work on the venue and testing was not yet complete.

To ensure all areas are ready for fans.

The Black Keys were due to open the Co-op Live venue this weekend

"To ensure that we can run all show safety, regretfully we have now had to take the decision to reschedule the planned The Black Keys and Peter Kay shows.

"Both The Black Keys and Peter Kay have graciously agreed to reschedule their shows. The Black Keys will now perform on 15 May 2024, and Peter Kay will now perform on 23 and 24 May 2024."

As was the case on Monday when the Peter Kay shows were first rescheduled, Co-op Live have said that all tickets remain valid and ticket holders will be contacted by their point of purchase. They added that refunds will also be available for those who can no longer attend.

Will my tickets still be valid?

A spokesperson for Co-op Live has confirmed that tickets for The Black Keys and Peter Kay will be transferred to later dates. The Black Keys will now take place on Wednesday 15, while Peter Kay's two shows will take place on May 23 and 24. Tickets will remain valid and transferred over to the new dates.

They added that ticket holders will be contacted by the ticket provider they bought the tickets through, such as Co-op Live's official ticketing partner, Ticketmaster, as well as others.

How do I get a refund for my tickets?

Some of those who have bought tickets for The Black Keys or Peter Kay may not be able to attend the new dates, so will be able to apply for a refund. Ticketholders will be contacted by the ticket provider they bought the tickets by email with the option to apply for a full refund. If you bought via Ticketmaster, there will be a link in the email to apply.

How do I get a refund on parking for the Co-op Live arena?

The Co-op Live arena has only one official car park, located next to it off Alan Turing Way. Limited parking spots on the official car park must be pre-booked online ahead of the event.

The arena says these car parking spaces will be released up to four weeks before each event. The price for a car park space via the Co-op Live website is £25 per car.

For those who have bought the £25 car parking, the venue have confirmed that refunds will be available through the ticket provider you purchased the parking through. For Ticketmaster there will be a link on the email, while for SeeTickets there is a refund link on the website.

For those who are happy to attend the alternative dates next week, if they also purchased official parking, the reservation will be moved to their changed date. For those due to attend Peter Kay on Monday (29 April) this will be Thursday, May 23 and for those due to attend on Tuesday (April 30), this will be Friday, May 24.

Olivia Rodrigo gigs called off as chaos continues at Manchester’s Co-op Live

Postponements come hours after queueing fans were turned away from A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie gig on Wednesday evening

The troubled Co-op Live arena has postponed Olivia Rodrigo’s concerts as part of her Guts world tour because of a “technical issue”, hours after the last-minute cancellation of its opening concert for the third time.

Two hours after announcing that A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie would no longer be performing, the venue confirmed that Rodrigo’s concerts on 3 and 4 May had also been cancelled.

Wednesday’s show was supposed to be the first official event at the 23,500-capacity Manchester venue, after several were cancelled or postponed in the past two weeks.

The venue said there was a problem during the soundcheck, with a component of the heating, ventilation and air conditioning system found to be defective.

The arena wrote on X: “Due to an ongoing venue-related technical issue, the scheduled performances of Olivia Rodrigo’s Guts world tour on May 3 and 4 are being postponed. Ticket-holders can either hold on to their tickets or obtain a refund at point of purchase.”

The Grammy award winner Rodrigo is expected to perform in Glasgow, Birmingham and London between 7 and 18 May.

A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie confirmed that “something happened” during his soundcheck that meant his show had to be cancelled. “I’m heated about the situation too, but safety first. Manchester, I got you, just stay tuned for further info,” he said on X.

His performance was cancelled at 6.40pm, 10 minutes after doors were supposed to open at 6.30pm. Fans were queuing outside the venue.

It is the latest in a series of problems for the venue. Rick Astley performed as a surprise guest to about 11,000 arena workers, VIPs and press for the free test event on 20 April, but as many as 4,000 tickets were cancelled , some just an hour before the show, leaving ticket-holders furious.

The venue said this was because of “testing critical procedures”, which meant it had to reduce the capacity for the event.

The venue apologised, and told ticket-holders they could attend a gig by the US rock duo the Black Keys a week later instead. The venue then had to postpone that gig until 15 May.

The arena also postponed two gigs by the comedian Peter Kay, who is now due to appear on 23 and 24 May.

Gary Roden quit as general manager of the arena last week over delays to its opening the venue, and after being criticised for saying some small music venues were “poorly run”.

The venue is part of the Oak View Group. Tim Leiweke, its chair and chief executive, said: “The safety and security of all visiting and working on Co-op Live is our utmost priority, and we could not and will not run any event until it is absolutely safe to do so.

“Today was a very unexpected situation but without a doubt the right decision. I deeply apologise for the impact that this has had on ticket-holders and fans.”

The Co-operative Group said it was disappointed by the announcement and would seek a “full explanation” from Oak View.

“As the naming rights sponsor for Co-op Live, we are shocked at the incident which has led to late cancellation of tonight’s show at the arena,” a Co-op Group spokesperson said.

“We are relieved that no one has been injured, but we share the disappointment and frustration of ticket-holders, many of whom are Co-op members, with the continuing delay to the opening of Co-op Live and the disruption that this is causing to everyone who has been looking forward to attending events.

“We will be seeking a full explanation from Oak View Group, who are responsible for the building, to the obvious questions arising from this, together with a clear plan from the Co-op Live venue management team at OVG for opening the venue and postponed and future events.

“Safety is, of course, the number one priority and it is critical that Co-op members and other ticket-holders can enjoy events in a venue with the very highest levels of security and safety measures in place.”

Situated on the Etihad Campus next to the Manchester City football ground, the £365m venue is scheduled to host Take That, the Killers, Eric Clapton and Barry Manilow in the coming weeks, and there are plans to hold the MTV Europe music awards there in November.

Olivia Rodrigo ‘bummed’ as shows are latest casualty of Co-op Live Arena issues

O livia Rodrigo has said she is “sooooo disappointed” she is unable to perform in Manchester after “ongoing venue-related technical issues” at the Co-op Live arena.

The £365 million venue, the biggest indoor arena in the UK, had postponed its opening show for the third time just over an hour before rapper A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie was due to perform on Wednesday, confirming there was a problem during the soundcheck.

Vampire singer Rodrigo had been due to perform at the venue on May 3 and 4 as part of her Guts world tour, but those shows have now been postponed.

She wrote on her Instagram story: “I’ve been having such a great time in Europe so far and I’m sooooo disappointed that we’re unable to perform in Manchester due to ongoing venue-related technical issues.

“We’re doing our best to reschedule the show.

“You can hold on to your tickets for further info or request a refund at your point of purchase. More info will be sent directly to ticket holders.

“I’m so bummed and I really hope to see you all soon.”

A component of the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system used to direct air had separated from the ductwork, and the installer, contractor and third-party inspector will now have to test each nozzle to confirm they are free from the defect, according to the Oak View Group, which is responsible for the building.

Two hours after cancelling A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, the venue confirmed via a statement on X, formerly Twitter, that Rodrigo would not be performing.

It said: “Due to an ongoing venue-related technical issue, the scheduled performances of Olivia Rodrigo’s Guts World Tour on May 3 and 4 are being postponed.

“Ticket holders can either hold on to their tickets or obtain a refund at point of purchase.”

Three-time Grammy winner Rodrigo took her Guts tour across North America during March and April. She most recently performed at the 3Arena in Dublin, and is expected to perform at London’s O2 on May 14, 15, 17 and 18.

It comes after A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie confirmed “something happened” during his soundcheck at the venue on Wednesday that caused the cancellation of his show.

“I’m heated about the situation too, but safety first Manchester, I got you, just stay tuned for further info,” he said.

Venue bosses had posted a statement cancelling the performance 10 minutes after the doors were set to open for what was meant to be its first official event, as fans queued outside.

Oak View Group chairman and chief executive Tim Leiweke said: “The safety and security of all visiting and working on Co-op Live is our utmost priority, and we could not and will not run any event until it is absolutely safe to do so.

“Today was a very unexpected situation but without a doubt the right decision. I deeply apologise for the impact that this has had on ticket holders and fans.”

Meanwhile, the Co-operative Group said it was “disappointed” by the announcement and will seek a “full explanation” from the Oak View Group.

“As the naming rights sponsor for Co-op Live, we are shocked at the incident which has led to late cancellation of tonight’s show at the arena,” a Co-op Group spokesman said.

“We are relieved that no-one has been injured, but we share the disappointment and frustration of ticket holders, many of whom are Co-op members, with the continuing delay to the opening of Co-op Live and the disruption that this is causing to everyone who has been looking forward to attending events.

The opening of the venue has already been postponed twice, with performances from comedian Peter Kay and American rock duo The Black Keys rescheduled.

However, the venue had reassured fans that A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie and Rodrigo’s shows would be going ahead this week.

Bolton-born stand-up Kay was scheduled to be the first performer, but his show had to be postponed with less than 48 hours’ notice following a test event.

The rescheduled dates at the end of April were rescheduled again alongside dates for The Black Keys because the venue had to undertake “extensive protocol of testing critical procedures to ensure all areas are ready for fans”.

The new date for the US band is May 15, while Kay’s performances have shifted to May 23 and 24.

American singer-songwriter Olivia Rodrigo says she's "so bummed" after two of her tour dates were cancelled, following a "venue-related technical issue" at the Co-op Live arena in Manchester.

A statement on X, formerly Twitter, said: “Due to an on-going venue-related technical issue, the scheduled performances of Olivia Rodrigo’s Guts World Tour on May 3 and 4 are being postponed.

“Ticket holders can either hold on to their tickets or obtain a refund at point of purchase.”
