Background information [ ]

  • IDW editor-in-chief Chris Ryall mentioned the notion of a Star Trek/Planet of the Apes crossover to the Tiptons following the success of Star Trek: The Next Generation - Doctor Who: Assimilation² . They were puzzled by the idea of gelling together two disparate visions of the future, but realized that, as alternate timelines were part of the fabric of Star Trek , it was worth attempting. They opted to cross over the original versions of both series, as these were deemed the most iconic, and because of their roots in the culture of the 1960s. Scott Tipton noted it was appropriate that John Chambers ' designs for the Apes would be depicted alongside Spock . [1]

Summarize this article for a 10 year old

Star Trek/Planet of the Apes: The Primate Directive is a five-issue crossover comic book series produced in partnership by IDW Comics and Boom! Studios and released between December 2014 and April 2015. The series was written by brothers Scott and David Tipton, with artwork by Rachael Stott, her debut work. The Primate Directive combine elements and characters from the original Star Trek series and the original Planet of the Apes film series . It features Captain James T. Kirk seeking to prevent the Klingons from installing a puppet gorilla government on the planet, which requires them working with various Apes characters such as George Taylor, Cornelius and Zira.

The Tipton brothers were approached by IDW to write the series after their work on the crossover miniseries Star Trek: The Next Generation/Doctor Who: Assimilation2 . Stott's artwork included the likeness of Charlton Heston , which was allowed after an agreement between IDW and the Heston estate. The first issue, released on December 31, 2014, saw sales of over 53,000, though sales figures would subsequently drop. However, the series has been received positively by critics, who praised Stott's artwork and the nature of how the two franchises interacted.

Finally, A Star Trek/Planet Of The Apes Crossover Is Coming

Let's make this quick: Star Trek. Planet of the Apes. These two scifi franchises will meet for the first time in IDW and Boom Studios comic miniseries. I'm talking Shatner's Kirk and Charlton Heston's Taylor, fighting Klingons and Apes. @#$% YES.

Here's everything we know, as gleaned from the official press release:

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to "mind-meld" with a sentient ape? Or wanted to see a Klingon on horseback, brandishing a rifle? Readers will soon have a chance to peek into just such an alternate future, as IDW Publishing partners with BOOM! Studios for the crossover event of the year: Star Trek/Planet of the Apes . IDW will publish the crossover, which will mark the first time BOOM! Studios has partnered with another publisher on a series. Together they will bring Star Trek, licensed by CBS Consumer Products, and 20th Century Fox's Planet of the Apes together in a way that is sure to delight existing fans and make new ones. The series will pair the original U.S.S. Enterprise crew with Taylor, Nova and the cast from the original Planet of the Apes film. ... The creative team will be a mix of proven experience and new blood with scripts by beloved Star Trek scribes Scott and David Tipton ( Star Trek: The Next Generation/Doctor Who: Assimilation 2 ) and interior art and covers by the British newcomer Rachael Stott . "With the Klingons secretly backing a renegade gorilla general in a coup for control of Ape City, Captain Kirk finds himself in the uncomfortable position of having to help out Dr. Zaius' orangutans," explains David Tipton . "Taylor won't be happy with that!"

"With the Klingons secretly backing a renegade gorilla general in a coup for control of Ape City, Captain Kirk finds himself in the uncomfortable position of having to help out Dr. Zaius' orangutans!" is my new favorite sentence of all time. The Star Trek/Planet of the Apes comic crossover is due out later this year.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes Director Shares the 'Idea' Behind the Movie's Massive Time Jump

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is set nearly 300 years after the events of its predecessor, 2017's War for the Planet of the Apes . In a new interview, Kingdom director Wes Ball opened up about the decision to jump ahead a few centuries for the fourth installment in 20th Century Studios' Planet of the Apes reboot series.

"I was looking for what to do next after I had a previous movie called Mouse Guard that crashed and burned. We were just about to make it, and I was making it with Matt Reeves at Fox. We were licking our wounds from that thing, and someone came and asked, 'What would you do with the next Planet of the Apes ? You just learned all this big mo-cap stuff, and you’re friends with Matt. What would you do?' shared Ball during Collider 's Directors on Directing panel at WonderCon. "Actually, I was a little hesitant at first, to be honest, and then I had this idea."

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes Includes Callbacks to the Original Movie, Reveals Star

Wes ball wasn't interested in a direct sequel to war.

Ball explained that he was initially worried about joining the franchise, believing that a direct sequel to War for the Planet of the Apes was "unnecessary" and "unimaginative" since " it would be unfairly sort of compared to that perfect trilogy that came previously in the last 10 years." Once the director landed on the idea of jumping ahead in the timeline that's when he became more comfortable with the idea of helming the next installment.

"So, we came up with this idea to stay in the same universe. We’re still a part of Caesar’s world , but we’re cutting many, many years later , after the fact, where you get to really explore what’s become of Caesar, what’s become of his legacy, his ideas," Ball explained. He also shared that Kingdom essentially acts as both a sequel and a prequel, bridging the gap between the previous trilogy and the original 1968 movie. "We find ourselves sort of in the middle, honoring where we came from with this great reboot that happened with the Caesar trilogy, and start making our way to that ‘68 version where apes are talking and have democracy and all this crazy stuff. So, that was kind of the approach that we took," he added.

'It Could Go a Couple Ways': Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes Star on the Franchise's Future

Kingdom tracking for huge box office debut.

Audience demand remains at an all-time high for the Planet of the Apes franchise, with Kingdom currently tracking for an opening weekend between $54 million and $61 million at the domestic box office. The highly-anticipated 154-minute sequel will be set in one of the many ape civilizations that have sprung up in the centuries since War , following a common chimpanzee named Noa (Owen Teague) who, per the official synopsis, embarks on "a harrowing journey that will cause him to question all that he has known about the past and to make choices that will define a future for apes and humans alike."

Kingdom of the Planet of the Ape s opens in theaters on May 10.

New planet of the apes trailer drops big reveal about freya allan's human character.

The new trailer for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes includes a big reveal about Freya Allan's character in the upcoming franchise sequel.

Why Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes Is Set 300 Years After Previous Apes Movies

13-minute kingdom of the planet of the apes trailer shows new main character's origin story at cinemacon.

  • Freya Allan's human character, Mae, plays a key role in the new trailer for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes .
  • Mae's role seems to mirror Nova from the previous movie , War for the Planet of the Apes .
  • The trailer connects directly to previous films, acknowledging Caesar's legacy and providing intrigue.

The newest trailer for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes includes a big reveal about Freya Allan’s human character. The Wes Ball-directed sequel is the first Planet of the Apes film to be released since War for the Planet of the Apes hit theaters in 2017. The new installment is set to take place 300 years after Caesar's story in the original trilogy, with apes now the dominant species. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes features a leading cast of Allan, Kevin Durand, William H. Macy, Dichen Lachman, Owen Teague, and Peter Macon.

20th Century Studios has now released a new trailer for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes . Check it out below:

The trailer begins with an ape explaining that “ many generations ago, Caesar was our leader .” The ape talks about the evolution of apes and the regression of humans, who have lost their ability to speak. The trailer ends with a surprise, as Allan’s human character is shown saying a line of dialogue : “ I have a name. Mae .”

The Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes Trailer Shows Its Broader Franchise Trends

Caesar's legacy has a lasting impact on the planet of the apes franchise..

The trailer for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes also includes a clear connection to the previous installments in that some characters will directly acknowledge Caesar’s legacy.

This newest trailer for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is the first to show Allan’s character speaking. In previous trailers, it was assumed that she was one of the feral-seeming humans who roamed silently. The fact that Allan’s character, now identified as Mae , will talk in the latest movie clarifies why her character is crucial to the sequel's plot , such as her being a key target.

Planet Of The Apes: All Movie Timelines Explained

Even though Mae has no direct relation to the characters in the previous movies, she has a similar role to a character in War for the Planet of the Apes . This character is Nova, the young girl who joins Caesar in his journey to defeat the Colonel and his evil troops. Nova is a non-speaking character in the third movie, but her purpose as the main human within a largely ape-dominated plot seems similar to Mae's role in Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes .

The trailer for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes also includes a clear connection to the previous installments in that some characters will directly acknowledge Caesar’s legacy. Ball recently said the sequel will include a prologue to help keep viewers up to speed with past events. The latest reveal only amplifies that intrigue about the relationship between humans and apes and human evolution in the Planet of the Apes franchise.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes

Set several years after the events of War for the Planet of the Apes, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is the next installment in the Apes saga. Ape clans have taken up residence in the oasis that Caesar sought to colonize, but humans have reverted to their animalistic nature in their absence. Now battling between enslavement and freedom, outliers in the Ape clans will take sides in a newly burgeoning society.
