People Also Ask About Bangkok City Tour Package

What are the different ticket options.

There are two different ticket options. The first ticket is meant for the morning tour, which starts at 7.30 am and ends at 12.30 pm, whereas, the second ticket option is for the evening tour, which begins at 11.45 am to goes up to 5.00 pm. Based on the traffic condition and time availability, tourists can choose either one of the options and enjoy all the distinguished temples and attractions at ease. Travellers, mostly go for the evening tour, as it provides ideal weather to traverse across all the places and exploit it to the core.

Will we stop at Wat Pho?

Yes. You will be visiting the Wat Pho, also called as Temple of Reclining Buddha. After visiting the scenic locations of Chinatown and flower market, you will be headed to the Wat Pho temple. Interestingly, Wat Pho is one among the six temples in Thailand, having the highest grade of first class Royal temples. The temple is equally popular for its complex boasted with the largest collection of Buddha images, and the enormous gold plated Reclining Buddha image (46 meters long). Thus, one can witness the age-old traditions and rituals, practiced since ancient times. In addition, it gives one a pleasant atmosphere to relax and meditate.

Will we get a chance to explore Wat Trimit?

Yes, of course. In this Bangkok city & temples tour, one cannot afford to miss the Wat Trimit temple, which is widely known as Golden Buddha amongst local tourists. The temple is officially called as Phra Phuttha Maha Suwana Patimakon and located in the temple of Wat Traimit, Bangkok. This historically significant temple features a glided exterior, exhibitions & a massive golden statue of Buddha. Here, the Golden Buddha is depicting the gracious Sukhothai style that is very much in favour of today’s world. Please note that the guests are required to cover up while entering the temple, otherwise they will not be allowed inside.

Will we also see the Golden Mountain?

Yes. You will also explore the Golden Mountain, which carries a big part in the overall itinerary. The place has an 80 Meter tall “Golden Mount”, and a huge glide stupa on top of it. It was previously recognized as the highest point in Bangkok. One can reach the stupa on top of the Golden Mount only by climbing 318 steps. As we know, Wat Saket “The temple of the Golden Mount” is located at the outskirts of the old Rathanakosin island area, and it dates back to the mighty Ayutthaya Empire. There is also a complex dedicated for Buddhist scriptures, which is worth seeing.

Why is Chinatown in Bangkok so famous?

Chinatown in Bangkok is so famous for having a perfect blend of traditional and new-age ambiance. Here, one can spot several ancient Buddhist temples on one side, and experience the bustling crowd of the city on the other side. The place is exceptionally active, enthusiastic, and vogue at night. One can enjoy the nightlife in Chinatown like anything and get the best respite of it. Yaowarat is a must-visit place at night, where you can get chic street food at the lowest prices. Tourists from other countries, usually, spend their leisure time in Chinatown minimum one time and return with lots of ever-lasting memories.

Will we see the Wat Benchamabopit?

Yes. You will see the Wat Benchamabopit, also called as the marble temple. If you want to know the architectural brilliance of Thailand, you should come to Wat Benchamabopit and get to know the unparallel ability of those sculptures. It is mainly famous for its main chapel built in white Carara Italian marble to house a replica of Thailand’s Buddha image, Phra Phuttachinarat. Also, it reveals the mixture of European and Thai style of architecture. The place offers painting classes and creativity development classes for beginners, which mostly attracts the children and brings out their inner talents.

Is there transport facility?

Yes. There is a transport facility offered for tourists on request. Once you’ve opted for the pickup and drop off service, you need to give your contact information and hotel address to the tour operator. It helps them to arrange a vehicle suitably and make sure that tourists are having a safe and secure ride. Since there are two different timings, the transport facility is served for each separately. Please note, that the transfer service is provided for hotels, located in Bangkok. If your hotel doesn’t come in the close vicinity, you need to find an alternative mode of transport.

Why is Bangkok City & Temples Tour so famous?

Unlike other tours, Bangkok City & Temples Tour is one-of-a-kind. It takes you to a contemporary place, where you can witness some major attractions like the Golden Buddha, Wat Benchamabopit, Wat Pho, and many more, at the same time you can sightsee the city, including the City Pillar Shrine, National Museum, the Parliament, etc. This entire journey is ideal for temple lovers and explorers, who’d like to learn the art and culture of Thailand, depicted in different forms. Moreover, there will be an English speaking guide, telling you the intriguing information about Bangkok, mythological stories, and other interesting facts.

What should we carry for this tour?

When it comes to visiting temples, it is highly essential to wear long pants and a long-sleeved shirt. If you don’t have a sleeved shirt, you can bring some other cloth just in case, to wrap around you. Since the temple authorities follow the strict dress code, it is mandatory to cover up the body. The second important thing is your identity card. It not only helps you during verification but also gets you discount at some places. Next is the camera to capture the most alluring monuments and its vibrant artworks. At last, you can bring sunscreen, a cooler, and a water bottle to stay hydrated throughout the journey.

Will there be an English speaking guide?

Yes. We have dedicated an English speaking guide for this tour. In order to bridge the communication gap between tourists and the local community, the management has taken this much-needed initiative. Considering the magnificent temples and city attractions, it is necessary to accommodate a tour guide, who could share the great history of Bangkok and its legacy.

Where Are New York’s Best Acoustics? We Took a Listening Tour.

The composer Michael Gordon and members of Mantra Percussion tested the piece “Timber” in resonant spaces around the city. Here is what they learned.

In the foreground a pair of percussive mallets and a wooden board. But the focal point of the picture is a man in a baseball cap and a down jacket. Behind him there are arches and you see a T-Mobile store.

By Joshua Barone

As three people struck wood with mallets under a viaduct in Queens during the morning rush hour one day in the fall, a man walked up and asked, “What do you call this music?” The players could have told him the title of the piece, Michael Gordon’s “Timber,” or given him some idea of the genre. But one, Caitlin Cawley, simply said, “Percussion.”

Cawley and her colleagues from the ensemble Mantra Percussion were at the viaduct, which runs along Queens Boulevard and under the 7 train, to test the sound of its vaulted ceiling. It was part of a project to perform “Timber,” an hourlong work from 2009, in man-made sites with idiosyncratic acoustics around New York City.

The result, called Resonant Spaces , begins on Sunday, with performances at three locations, followed by three more on April 21. In addition to the viaduct, they include Castle Clinton and Federal Hall in Lower Manhattan, and in Brooklyn, archways in Prospect Park and Dumbo, and a monument in Fort Greene Park. The free concerts will allow the public to hear New York the way percussionists do: as a limitless source of musical opportunity.

“Timber” was originally written for the Dutch group Slagwerk Den Haag. Six percussionists struck amplified two-by-fours — a take on simantras, planks of wood shaped to create specific tones, which have a history of being used in the Eastern Orthodox Church.

In the early performances of “Timber,” the simantras were made from pine, but Mantra Percussion has taken a different route. Michael McCurdy, a member, said that the score didn’t specify the wood. “When you are learning Xenakis , or anything,” he said, “when the composer says ‘wood block,’ the variety of sounds that can come from that instrument is vast.’”

For Resonant Spaces, “Timber” will be played with purpleheart — a wood so dense, McCurdy said, that the Mantra players exhausted and had to replace a circular saw for cutting the pieces. On that fall morning, he, Cawley and Joseph Bergen carried their boards and other equipment from location to location, on the subway and in rideshare cars, as they tested sites for the concerts to see where the piece would thrive.

They allowed me to join with a photographer, and to record audio at each stop.

Queens Boulevard Viaduct

Gordon described the viaduct’s grandly arched space as “really acoustically wild, almost fantastic.” As the players tested fragments of “Timber,” the sound ricocheted off the ceiling, shooting in all directions.

Under the Queens Boulevard viaduct

They tried different configurations — setting up their mounted boards close together, or far apart, in the center of the vaulted space or at the edge of it — as passers-by stopped to listen or interact with them. One woman wanted to give Cawley some cash.

Gordon was curious about a spot near the subway entrance, with a lower, flat ceiling. The sound wasn’t as spectacular, but the performance still caught the attention of a man who said with astonishment: “It’s wood. I’m walking over here wondering what’s going on, but it’s just wood. That’s astounding.”

After a brief pause, Gordon looked at him and, like any good New Yorker, said, “You know that you’re wearing a Red Sox hat, right?”

Endale Arch

After a car ride from Queens, the group arrived at the entrance of Prospect Park, and walked to the Endale Arch. The short tunnel, strikingly lined with alternating panels of pine and walnut, is one of the original architectural features from the park’s creation more than 150 years ago.

Under the Endale Arch

Under the arch, while runners, confused and frightened dogs, and school groups passed, Gordon and the Mantra players tried the most configurations of any location they visited that day. They found that the sound could be severe, but better if they let it reflect off one of the tunnel’s brick nooks, and best if they spaced out the instruments, especially at either entrance. McCurdy smiled as he asked the others whether they could hear overtones emerging from the resonance.

“It was a little harsh and loud,” Gordon said of the space. “It was amplifying the sound and also bringing out the bright overtones.” Milder, he added, was an area of Fort Greene Park in front of the Prison Ship Martyrs’ Monument, where the Mantra musicians had previously played “Timber.” (They will be back there on April 21). “That,” Gordon said, “is not particularly loud or reverberant, but it’s much more subtle and kind of beautiful.”

Federal Hall

The group then hauled its equipment onto the 2 train, getting out at the Wall Street stop to test the rotunda of Federal Hall, the first home of the U.S. Congress and the site of George Washington’s swearing in as president.

Inside Federal Hall

On the way, the percussionists played in the subway exit — a tinny corridor lined with tile — as well as in Kevin Roche’s postmodern lobby of 60 Wall Street (now closed for renovation and likely demolition), before arriving at Federal Hall. There was a school group visiting, and the children began to gather around the trio as they played. Afterward, the students asked to try for themselves, and took turns striking the wood.

Of the day’s stops, the rotunda was the most naturally reverberant. “It was so thick with reverb and delay that you could hardly make out what they were playing,” Gordon said. “The distinction was almost completely lost. The sound is bouncing off the walls and off the floor, and it just doesn’t stop. You’re just really drenched in sound.”

Bethesda Terrace

From there, it was back to the subway and up to the Upper West Side for a stop at Central Park, where the musicians made their way to the arcade under Bethesda Terrace. When they arrived, they had competition, not so much from the wedding party shuffling around for a photo shoot or the children’s entertainer making large bubbles, but from other musicians: Cover Story Doo-Wop , an ensemble of four vocalists and a bass player that had attracted a large audience.

Inside the Bethesda Terrace Arcade

But after being offered cash and cutting a deal for the Mantra players to be quick, Cover Story took a break and stood the side while the percussionists set up their instruments and got started. This heavily trafficked area of the park offered the most passers-by yet, but also the most indifferent ones; few stopped to listen, and no one stopped for conversation.

Gordon and the Mantra musicians decided not to perform in Central Park. It seemed chaotic, Gordon said, and he got the impression that they “were not going to get the feeling or the focus of people who actually showed up and wanted to hear it.”

AFTER A DAY of hearing “Timber” around New York, Gordon said that he didn’t think the spaces materially changed the music. “The piece is the piece,” he said. “I think it’s less about what places do to the piece as what it does to our awareness of the spaces we walk through.”

That’s what audience members, those who plan to attend or those who stumble across the performances, could get out of Resonant Spaces. “Walking through the viaduct is a phenomenal experience,” Gordon said. “But it’s one we all have. We go to the park and walk through a tunnel. Central Park is full of them. These places aren’t hidden. But their acoustical properties — those kind of are.”

Will Beyoncé announce the 'Cowboy Carter' tour? Fans think she may be hitting the road again soon

  • Beyoncé released her new album "Cowboy Carter" on Friday.
  • Some fans think she's gearing up to tour again, though many say they don't have the funds to attend.
  • The Renaissance World Tour wrapped last October in Kansas City. It was hailed as a must-see event.

Insider Today

Less than a year after the Renaissance World Tour wrapped, it might already be time for the Beyhive to dust off their boots and head back out to see Beyoncé live again.

The Renaissance World Tour was hailed as a once-in-a-lifetime event , a bona fide status symbol , and a blockbuster concert movie that awed audiences while near-singlehandedly boosting AMC's revenue . The 56-show run wrapped on October 1, 2023, in Kansas City.

On its heels, Beyoncé has released her new album " Cowboy Carter ." The triumphant country-inspired project is billed as "Act II" in a three-part "Renaissance" series.

So it would stand to reason — financially and thematically — that Beyoncé would plan another tour leg for "Cowboy Carter."

Her team seemed to hint that something is coming by launching a new website, " Been Country ." The landing page shows a photo of young Beyoncé performing at the Texas Sweetheart Pageant, as well as a childhood photo of her mother, Tina Knowles-Lawson , and an image of a banjo.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Slayonce Avenue (@slayonce_avenue2)

A fan account on Instagram shared a rumor that the tour announcement is scheduled for Friday, exactly one week after the album's arrival. Knowles-Lawson liked the post, adding more fuel to the rumor's flame.

Beyoncé's longtime collaborator The-Dream, who produced 10 of the new album's 27 tracks, also alluded to a forthcoming tour. He celebrated the release of "Cowboy Carter" on X, writing, "This tour bout to B' Incredible!"

Related stories

Fans grabbed screenshots of The-Dream's post, though it has since been deleted.

However, the six-month turnaround since Beyoncé's last concert does cast suspicion on these theories. Thanks to "Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé," we know the Renaissance World Tour took four years to ideate and execute.

It's unclear if plans for a "Cowboy Carter" show were also in the works during that time, but if not, fans may have to wait a bit longer to watch Beyoncé perform. As she's already made clear, " A queen moves at her own pace ."

Even so, a delay may come as welcome news, even for dedicated members of the Beyhive.

Many fans have been posting about their lack of ticket funds on X, playfully begging Beyoncé to put off touring until next year.

Representatives for Beyoncé did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Business Insider.

Explore Bangkok the fun way on a private tour with local transport such as skytrain, water taxi, and the famous tuk tuks.

We start the day at the wholesale flower market which opens around the clock.  Fresh flowers are big business here since they are indispensable in Buddhist ceremonies.  Thais use them for both worships and decorations.  Apart from colorful sights and beautiful aromas, this is also a good opportunity to taste various kinds of fresh tropical fruits.

With a fun tuk tuk ride we go from the flower market to our next stop, where we visit Wat Pho that houses the country's most beautiful reclining Buddha with an impressive length of 46 meters.  Besides being the temple with a stupa containing the ashes of Chakri Dynasty's  first king, this temple was once a "medical school" for people who wanted to study Traditional Thai Medicine.  Courses on Traditional Thai massage are still being offered.

Then, we cross the river to Bangkok landmark, Wat Arun or the Temple of Dawn.  The 67 meters high corn-shaped pagoda or (Pra Prang in Thai) represents Mount Meru, the center of the universe in Buddhist-Hindu cosmology.  The Prang which is "supported" by demons, monkeys, and divinities is surrounded by the four continents.  The structure's exterior is decorated with small pieces of Chinese porcelain, a unique feature introduced in the reign of King Rama III.

We take a break at a riverside restaurant where a delicious Thai lunch is freshly prepared for you.

Later on, we take you on a relaxing long-tailed boat tour to see the local life in the Venice of the East.  Explore the canals and enjoy the view of wooden houses on stilts.

Optional attractions are also available.  If you want to make the most of your time in Bangkok, you can personalize your tour on the booking form :

  • Replace Wat Arun with a stroll down the streets of Chinatown for a more local experience in one of the oldest and most interesting districts of Bangkok, you will still be able to see Wat Arun from the long tailed boat.
  • Add Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew (emerald Buddha Temple), if you don’t mind the crowds then this is a spectacular place to visit, we will start around 8:00.
  • Enjoy a 30-minute relaxing traditional Thai or foot massage at Wat Pho temple

20 reviews for Bangkok Highlights tour by local transport

Mary S – March 25, 2024

We considered various tour options before our trip to Bangkok and honestly felt like we won the lottery in having Air as our guide! It was a long hot day to visit so many city sites but Air kept us going. She’s very knowledgeable as a guide and speaks terrific English (our biggest concern in choosing a guide) but what truly makes a guide is their ability to connect with their clients in an engaging way and for this reason, I give her an A+ rating. She is fun & funny and radiates the warmest positive energy. We will always have the best memories of Bangkok thanks to her!

Niels Christian Mohr – March 22, 2024

This tour is fantastic. We have done it more than once and doing it again this summer. Air is a superb guide with great english skills and knowledge and makes the tour very special with focus on you.

Phil L – March 22, 2024

Tour was fantastic. Air, the tour guide, was so knowledgable and friendly and made the tour absolutely fantastic

Louize H – March 13, 2024

We had just the best day with Petch. What a super fountain of knowledge she is, and so much fun. We could not have had a better tour guide, and we loved every minute, totally down to petch’s amazing tour. Thank you.

UK Tourist – March 13, 2024

We loved the public bus ride at the start of the day which gave us a glimpse of the streets and main sites of Bangkok. We also loved the canal boat tour which gave us an insight into how some Bangkok residents live and how the canals operate. We also caught a glimpse of the 62m Buddha which was fantastic. Wat Arun was stunning and it was interesting to hear about the first king and the creation of the current dynasty. We would have loved to have heard more about the architecture and symbolism used throughout. Wat Pho is of course spectacular and had it not been for the heat, we would have spent longer wandering through the grounds and observing the beautiful architecture and frescos. The walk through the Grand Palace was a little rushed due to the extreme heat but we’d love to come back perhaps much earlier in the morning to beat the crowds and midday heat. We’d love to learn more about its history and architecture.

Annabelle M – February 21, 2024

Nes, was amazing, knowledgeable and spoke very good English. Would highly recommend this trip there is a lot of walking, and strongly suggest you have good walking shoes that are easily removable and perhaps a hat for shade especially in the summer. The fruit and veg at the flower market were amazing what an fabulous city and this tour enables you to see the highlights.

René K – December 5, 2023

We booked full tour, we spent more then 8 hours with our guide Air. Was great, good english skills and knowledge about history.

We recommend, book it and you will not disappointed.

Aya – April 25, 2023

I booked the tour for my elderly parents (50+). They have nothing but wonderful things to say about Ms. Raht. My dad admittedly can be insensitive sometimes, but Ms. Raht handled the tour with grace and pleasant energy all throughout. She made all possible considerations for my parents and they felt truly special. I will 100% recommend Ms. Raht, and thankful to BKK for having such a gracious tour guide.

Angela B – November 21, 2022

All perfect, well done.

Krista – February 26, 2020

We had a lovely day with beautiful sitings at a nice pace. Also really liked the food and the small shopping possibility Air is very nice and funny and knows a lot and shares nicely. Thank you very much!

Tina G – February 9, 2020

Great intro to Bangkok. Our guide Onn was super! She was personable, enthusiastic and tailored the tour to our preferences/pace. This was the first of two tours with her, and we looked forward to the next one.

Chadde O – December 23, 2019

Fantastic tours from Air! We really liked the local transport and the local immersion like having tea and coffee with the locals. Loved it! And your local restaurant selection was awesome too! Some of the best food of the trip! Highly recommend! Thank you! Thank you!

Zoe – December 14, 2019

Great intro to BKK. Nadia was amazing!

Tanya – December 10, 2019

We have very good time with Raht. Thank you so much, we recommend to every one 😉

fstlyf – November 23, 2019

Friendly, great communication, organized and knowledgable. Ms Raht took us where locals eat. excellent!

Rachel B – November 20, 2019

An excellent day of sight seeing with the perfect mix of information and fun. The day was organised fantastically to see all of the great sights without ever feeling rushed. Lunch and drink stops were a welcome break from the heat and timed by our guide perfectly. Air was very knowledgable and judged perfectly the level of information that would be interesting for our group. She was always happy to answer any questions we had and have fun with us too.

Hannah – November 16, 2019

Lovely sequence and breaks with food, comfortable transport. Air was perfect, we absolutely enjoyed our time with her and she felt like a friend showing us around. Highly highly recommend her!

RoKi – November 15, 2019

We had a great tour and a great time with Air, who was a kind, gentle and considerate guide, who looked after us so well. Also she knows everything about the places we visited and we received a good amount of information. We also laughed a lot together. We sure miss her and one can be lucky to stroll through Bangkok with her.

LeanneH – October 31, 2019

Raht led us on a fun and informative tour of Bangkok. We got to see the Vegetable and Flower Market, Wat Arun, Wat Pho, a nice Longtail Boat ride and lunch, and finally a massage. It was a great day for my husband and I and also for our kids, ages 13 and 14. The lunch was great, Raht ordered some dishes for us based on what we liked and didn’t like. She was so personable and fun. Had we not gone on this tour, we would have never seen so much in our one day in Bangkok.

Kerstin – October 27, 2019

Tina was a great guide. She was attentive, informative and friendly. The tour was the right balance between temples, markets and relaxing time. We all loved it.

Biden tours collapsed Baltimore bridge as clearing proceeds and declares ‘your nation has your back’

President Joe Biden visited Baltimore Friday to get a firsthand look at efforts to clear away the remains of the Francis Scott Key Bridge which collapsed last week, killing six people. Biden vowed to “move heaven and earth” to rebuild the bridge.

DUNDALK, Md. (AP) — President Joe Biden got a firsthand look Friday at efforts to clear away the “mangled mess” of remains of the collapsed Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore , as cranes, ships and diving crews work to reopen one of the nation’s main shipping lanes.

Aboard Marine One, circling the warped metal remains and the mass of construction and salvage equipment trying to clear the wreckage of last week’s collapse, which killed six workers, Biden got an up close view of the devastation.

On the ground later, he received a briefing from local officials, the U.S. Coast Guard and Army Corps of Engineers on the situation in the water and its impacts on the region. The president also greeted police officers who helped block traffic to the bridge in the moments before it was hit by a ship — which helped avert an even larger loss of life.

“I’m here to say your nation has your back and I mean it,” Biden said from the shoreline overlooking the collapsed bridge in Dundalk, just outside Baltimore. “Your nation has your back.”

Eight workers — immigrants from Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador — were filling potholes on the bridge when it was hit by a huge cargo ship and collapsed in the middle of the night of March 26. Two men were rescued and the bodies of two others were recovered in subsequent days.

Authorities announced Friday evening that salvage divers had recovered, in the hours before Biden arrived, a third body from the water, that of Maynor Yasir Suazo-Sandoval, 38, one of the missing workers. They said the search for the other victims will continue.

The president also met for more than an hour with the families of those killed.

“The damage is devastating and our hearts are still breaking,” Biden said.

Officials have established a temporary, alternate channel for vessels involved in clearing debris. The Army Corps of Engineers hopes to open a limited-access channel for barge container ships and some vessels moving cars and farm equipment by the end of this month, and to restore normal capacity to Baltimore’s port by May 31, the White House says.

That’s important since longer delays in reopening shipping lanes could send shockwaves through the economy . As much as $200 million in cargo normally moves through Baltimore’s port per day, and it is the leading hub for importing and exporting vehicles.

More than 50 salvage divers and 12 cranes are on site to help cut out sections of the bridge and remove them from the key waterway. Officials told Biden they had all the resources they need to meet the targets for opening the channel into the Baltimore port.

The president announced that some of the largest employers affected by the collapse, including Amazon, Home Depot and Domino Sugar, have committed to keeping their employees on payroll until the port is reopened. That followed days of outreach by state and federal officials to try to mitigate the economic impact.

“From the air I saw the bridge that has been ripped apart,” Biden said, “but here on the ground I see a community that’s pulled together.”

It is still unclear, though, how the costs of cleanup and building a new bridge will be covered.

The Federal Highway Administration has provided $60 million in “quick release” emergency relief funds to get started. Exactly how much the collapse will ultimately cost is unclear, though some experts estimate recovery will take at least $400 million and 18 months .

Biden said within hours of the collapse that “the federal government will pay for the entire cost of reconstructing that bridge, and I expect the Congress to support my effort.”

Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell likened the bridge collapse to assistance that flows after natural disasters and saying ”the federal government will step up and do the lion’s share” of funding. But authorization could cause some squabbles in Congress.

The White House is asking lawmakers to authorize the federal government to cover 100% of the collapsed bridge cleanup and reconstruction costs, rather than seeking funding through a separate, emergency supplemental funding request.

In a letter to congressional leaders, Office of Management and Budget Director Shalanda Young noted similar techniques were used for recovery and rebuilding efforts that received bipartisan congressional support in 2007, when a highway bridge in downtown Minneapolis collapsed during evening rush hour, killing 13 people.

But some hard-line congressional Republicans are already lining up to demand politically controversial offsets for the funding. The conservative House Freedom Caucus issued a statement saying, “If it proves necessary to appropriate taxpayer money to get one of America’s busiest ports back online, Congress should ensure it is fully offset and that burdensome regulations” are waved. It was referring to potential federal spending cuts elsewhere and to regulations like the Endangered Species Act.

The caucus’s letter also suggested that approval for bridge recovery funds be tied to the Biden administration agreeing to lift a pause it has imposed on exportation of liquified natural gas.

The funding questions only serve to heighten the collapse’s political implications as Biden squares off with former President Donald Trump in November’s election.

It’s the second major disaster along the country’s busy northeastern hub in as many years. Last summer, an overpass along Interstate 95 in Philadelphia caught fire and collapsed after a tanker truck slammed into it. Federal and state officials moved quickly on temporary repairs and ultimately reopened that section of the highway faster than expected.

But the cleanup and repairs in Baltimore will take far longer and be far more costly, making the chances it is a net political positive for Biden — especially in time for Election Day — far murkier. That hasn’t stopped the Biden administration from championing anew a $1 trillion-plus public works package that cleared Congress in 2021.

The bridge collapse also has thrust into the national spotlight Maryland’s Democratic Gov. Wes Moore , 45, a leading voice in Biden’s reelection campaign’s effort to energize young voters on the 81-year-old president’s behalf. The governor accompanied Biden on the helicopter tour and during his briefings.

Biden has traveled the country showcasing construction projects on highways, bridges and tunnels. In 2022, he arrived for an event in Pittsburgh just hours after a bridge nearby collapsed . Promoting the public works package also has allowed the president to lean into his love of train travel and many years commuting to and from Washington on Amtrak as a Delaware senator.

Biden said Friday that he’d been over the bridge “about a thousand times” commuting from Washington to his home in Delaware, prompting the state Department of Transportation chief to quip, “thank you for the tolls, sir.”

Petersburg Garden Club walking tour, six stops: Beautiful gardens, homes, floral designs

Cockade city garden club, fundraisers benefit historic blandford cemetery, geranium sale, luncheon, fashion show by all manor of things: purchase plants in advance for favorite color.

tour of bangkok city

VIRGINIA — The 2024 Historic Garden Week in Virginia is just around the bed of peonies. Do not wait until the last minute to purchase tickets for the Garden Club of Virginia's 91st annual fundraiser. Ticket holders may enjoy hospitality extended by Garden Club of Virginia members at beautiful private homes, gardens and historic properties throughout the state April 20-27.

Poplar Lawn is one of Petersburg’s grandest neighborhoods and is the location of the Petersburg Garden Club's spring tour. To make it look fabulous, a lot of dedicated citizens help maintain the park, the neighborhood’s center. Petersburg Garden Club, Historic Poplar Lawn Association, Historic Petersburg Foundation [HPF] collaborated to prepare for the big event. Some exhibitors include Petersburg Home for Ladies, Boulevard Flowers, Bartlett Trees, Wilcox Watershed Conservancy and others.

The Caretaker's Cottage at Poplar Lawn Park has recently been spruced up. The Foundation owns the structure built in the 1880s which was occupied by Dick Bragg, its caretaker. It was deeded to the HPF in 1983. In 2021, Keith and Christy Wade, ghost hunters, determined through their paranormal investigation that the historic cottage is haunted . It has been used to store park maintenance tools and was even Ward 2's voting precinct at one point. HPF keeps a close watch on it and initiates preservation efforts as needed for the tiny slice of Petersburg history.

Weather permitting, related activities will be held in the park including a complimentary tea from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. as well as a landscape architecture drawings and discussion by the Historic Poplar Lawn Association about current renovations, learn about the history of the area, view horticulture displays by area nurseries and tree experts. Ticket holders may enjoy an art and train interpretation created with flowers at Noe’s Art Studio and Train Museum located across the street from the park formerly named Central Park.

Most showcased properties are within easy walking distance of each other. On South Sycamore Street, the Ragland Mansion, a 10,000-square-foot antebellum Italianate residence erected in 1856, will serve as tour headquarters and provide facilities to ticket holders. A short drive from the park is Centre Hill mansion, a Garden Club of Virginia restoration site, which will welcome visitors.

The Petersburg tour is on Tuesday, April 23 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. The chairs this year are Amanda Lupold and Lucia Malon. "Petersburg Garden Club is grateful for the generosity of our wonderful sponsors, and everyone's hard work, especially the owners of these beautiful homes," Lupold said. This year's sponsors are Bank of Southside Virginia, WP Poirier, Owen Printing and Petersburg Company Tours.

Historic Garden Week: Petersburg Garden Club

The walking tour this year in Petersburg includes six stops along the way. Tickets allow access to the following properties:

  • Ragland Mansion, 205 S. Sycamore Street
  • Augustus Wright House, 241 Sycamore Street: Brick Victorian Empire-Italianate-style home, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, first time featured during Historic Garden Week

  • Noe Art Studio & Train Museum, 109 Central Park
  • Poplar Lawn Historic Park, 351 South Sycamore Street
  • Trinity Methodist Church, 215 South Sycamore Street

According to Malon, the Branch House at 18 Marshall Street, originally on the tour, will not be included due to unforeseen circumstances beyond the Club's control.

Visitors are encouraged to visit the following nearby places of interest: Centre Hill Museum at 1 Centre Hill Avenue in Petersburg and Blandford Church Museum at 111 Rochelle Lane which has a Confederate memorial with 15 Louis Comfort Tiffany stained-glass windows.

Cockade City Garden Club raises funds for historic Blandford Cemetery

A luncheon sponsored by the Cockade City Garden Club will be served at Christ and Grace Episcopal Church from 11:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. The delicious affair which benefits the historic Blandford Cemetery includes a continuous fashion show by Weston Manor's All Manor of Things boutique and gift shop, a geranium sale and marketplace shopping hosted by the Cockade City Garden Club.

The meal includes chicken salad, three-bean salad, fruited Jell-O salad, a roll, a beverage and a slice of cake for dessert. Before or after you dine, tour the church sanctuary's mid-19th century Tiffany-style stained glass windows.

Luncheon tickets are $14 each and may be purchased in advance at Palmore Decorating Center at 1927 S. Sycamore Street in Petersburg, Boulevard Flower Gardens at 2120 Ruffin Mill Road in Chesterfield and Ms Hairstyling at 3924 S. Crater Road in Petersburg or from Cockade City Garden Club members.

Geraniums which cost $6.75 may be ordered in advance to request a certain color. Contact Linda Wynne via [email protected] or 804-399-5258 to purchase geraniums and/or luncheon tickets. Both may be purchased on the day of the event as well.

Garden Club of Virginia: 91st Historic Garden Week

This beloved statewide event will include 30 unique tours organized and hosted by 48 member clubs located from the foothills of the Shenandoah Valley all the way to the beaches of Tidewater. Historic Garden Week has been held annually since 1929 except for a period during World War II and in 2020 during the pandemic. Members take pride in sharing warm hospitality and beautiful flower arrangements through this popular springtime tradition.

Historic Garden Week 2024 Guidebooks are available for free at Palmore Decorating Center, Boulevard Flowers at Ruffin Mill and in Petersburg at The Oak Antique Mall while supplies last. The Petersburg tour information can be found on pages 206-208. To view the guidebook online and to purchase tickets , $40 each until April 22 and $50 on the day of the tour, visit VAGardenWeek.org where you will find a tour map. Took us on boat through the floating market in a rush for 20 minutes and we were done by 9am. We were showed just one alley of water with market although many other waterways with markets were there. The boat operator didn’t speak English either and he turned around as instructed by our car guide to bring us back before 9am. We were then told to walk around the market for an hour before heading back to hotel. The tour was a sheer waste of money… the worst experience ever. • 671pennyl 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles What a fun little place! Make sure your phone is charged The teenagers, hubby and I had fun in here. We speak English and no Thai, the people at the door spoke broken English, and with the display pic at the front, between us all, with a giggle or two, we figured it out, and after that no language was required as the explanation are all in picture form so you can't get it wrong, and if you do, the helpful staff are near by to help you laugh your way though it. The art work in this place is nothing short of amazing and if you follow the really easy instructions you end up with some really amazing photos! The art work is on the floor as well as the walls so you have to go in bare foot but the place is spotless so no issue there. Toilets are just as you walk in, but you can backtrack if you need to. We spent about an 1.5 hours in there (each child posing in each scene and us being a bit more selective) so the price was worth it to us. You pay people what they are worth and the actual art inside here is very well done. We had fun. Reading others reviews about rude staff, we did NOT find this. We found a bit of a language barrier which is ALWAYS on the tourist, and we found shy staff not wanting to interrupt our family fun but did offer assistance when they could see we really were stuffing up the photo. We are glad we visited this place. Read more Written May 3, 2023

City Announces Over $520 Million in Anticipated Public Works Procurement Contract Opportunities

Last fall, the City announced its first ever Public Works Procurement Forecast with the intention of increasing participation from historically underutilized businesses by providing potential contractors more time to plan and prepare competitive bids.

Today, the City is releasing its six-month update that includes a list of more than 130 different anticipated public works contract opportunities from four City agencies:

  • Department of Streets ,
  • Philadelphia Airport (PHL & PNE),
  • Water Department, and
  • Office of Sustainability / Philadelphia Energy Authority .

The procurement forecast includes expected projects over the next 18-24 months and the list will be refreshed every six months. Accounting for over $520 million of upcoming work, the scope of work crosses multiple trades and upcoming demand for prime contractors and subcontractors in fields such as Highway and Bridge Construction; Electrical Installation; Water and Sewer Structures; Manufacturing, Trucking and Warehousing; and General Labor and Equipment Operation.

New information has been added to the forecast including potential subcontracting opportunities and an anticipated dollar range for some projects. This information will assist potential vendors as they prepare competitive bids for the City.

The citywide goal is for 35% of City contracts to go to minority, woman, or disabled-owned (M/W/DSBE) businesses. If you are a business who would like to get M/W/DSBE certified, find a certification agency and then complete the online a pplication . To see which firms are M/W/DSBE certified, search the Office of Economic Opportunity’s registry .

Many of the federally funded projects utilize the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) program instead of M/W/DSBE. If you are a business who would like to get DBE certified, visit PennDOT’s DBE Support Services page for more information. To see which firms are already DBE certified, search Pennsylvania Unified Certification Program’s (PAUCP) registry.

The updated Forecast follows last month’s release of the 2024 Infrastructure Solutions Team Report and Action Plan. The report includes a message from Mayor Cherelle Parker on how infrastructure investments from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) align with her 100-Day Action Plan . Ensuring these projects grow generational wealth for Philadelphians, especially people of color who have historically been excluded from opportunity, is central to the City’s strategy.

The City has already been awarded over $500 million for infrastructure upgrades since the BIL and Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) were enacted – including $158.9 million for Chinatown Stitch , $78 million for improvements to Roosevelt Boulevard , a $25 million RAISE grant for school slow zones, and $1.47 million for the creation of an electric vehicle workforce development program to empower aspiring EV supplies and equipment (EVSE) workers.

Looking Ahead

The City will be releasing its next six-month update to the public works procurement forecast in October 2024. The City is also launching SupplyPHL to provide business advisory services to assist historically underutilized businesses to engage in public works projects in Philadelphia.
