Vous souhaitez pouvoir vous replonger dans vos souvenirs de voyage à n’importe quel moment ? Vous avez peur d’oublier ces petites anecdotes qui font d’un voyage une expérience unique ? Pourquoi ne pas tout garder dans un carnet de voyage ? Vous pourrez ainsi vous remémorer votre séjour avec un brin de nostalgie. Voici comment faire un carnet de voyage en 6 étapes. Je vous délivre également des conseils pour créer un carnet de voyage en ligne ou à imprimer.  

Pourquoi faire un carnet de voyage ?

Écrire un carnet de voyage , c’est comme rédiger un journal de bord lors d’une expédition. Les grands explorateurs tenaient le leur pour retracer leurs expériences et leurs découvertes. Il permet d’immortaliser tous ces instants précieux que vous souhaitez garder en mémoire. 

Plus qu’un simple album photo, le carnet de voyage relate les anecdotes propres à chacun. Unique dans sa conception et dans son contenu, ce carnet est un récit de voyage où vous y noterez les bonnes adresses , les lieux visités et incontournables , vos impressions, mais aussi toutes ces petites choses importantes à vos yeux. Vous pourrez y mettre de belles photos, des récits de visites ou des moments partagés avec vos covoyageurs (famille, amis…), la population locale ainsi qu’avec les personnes rencontrées au cours d’un voyage. Mine d’informations, il vous permettra de revivre chaque instant comme si vous y étiez. 

Fabriquer un carnet de voyage peut paraître compliqué, mais cela n’en est rien. Suivez ces étapes pour un joli carnet de voyage fait main.  

Choisir un carnet

Pour commencer, vous devez choisir un carnet susceptible d’accueillir vos écrits et photos. Pour cela, trouvez un carnet avec des pages vierges entièrement personnalisable. Il en existe des modèles de différentes tailles et avec diverses reliures. Voici quelques modèles, format poche : 

• Moleskine (A5, avec des pages vierges et des lignes + carte du monde à compléter) ;
• Artway studio (A5 – 145 pages vierges).

Optez pour un grand format, si vous le souhaitez :

• Carnet “Ancien Monde“ (taille XXL, pages blanches -164 pages) ;
• Artway Enviro (A4 paysage, 35 pages blanches).

Pour ceux qui préféreraient avoir des lignes pour écrire, voici quelques modèles intéressants. Cependant, je ne les conseille pas à ceux qui souhaitent dessiner dessus. Cela gâcherait vos belles illustrations : 

• Navaris Carnet de notes ( A5, couverture en liège et fermeture élastique -100 pages avec lignes et compartiment papier) ;
• My Travels Adventure Journal (A5, couverture rigide) ;

Il existe aussi des carnets de voyage rechargeables, l’idéal : 

• Seeallde (A5, couverture en cuir -200 pages vierges) ;
• Valery (A5, couverture en cuir -320 pages lignées).

Pour finir, vous pouvez choisir un bullet journal de voyage : 

• Bullet time Journal de voyage de 144 pages.

En fonction de la durée de votre séjour, prévoyez le nombre de pages nécessaires. Vous pouvez également acheter un carnet de voyage en cuir artisanal pour vous mettre dans la peau d’un de ces fameux explorateurs ! Je vous conseille les carnets de voyages du site carnet-du-voyageur pour leur qualité et leur format de poche. Vous pourrez ainsi emporter ce petit carnet autour du monde.

Rédiger l’introduction avant le départ

Dès que vous aurez déniché le carnet qui vous convient, notez la destination de votre séjour sur la page de garde en la décorant et ne tardez pas à écrire l’introduction . Vous allez me dire : “Qu’est-ce que l’on écrit sur cette page d’introduction ?” Nous y voilà. 

L’introduction va vous permettre de parler de votre destination en général . Cela va dépendre de votre voyage : séjour d’une semaine dans une ville, road trip d’1 mois à travers un pays, tour du monde d’un an… 

Introduction pour un séjour court

Pour un voyage court et sans trop de déplacement, parlez du pays visité, de la capitale/ville de destination et notez la date. Imprimez une carte… Autant d’idées, mais vous le ou la seul(e) à décider ce que cette page peut comporter. 

Introduction pour un voyage itinérant

Pour un voyage itinérant, indiquez la date, les pays traversés et essayez de dessiner ou de coller un itinéraire. Travaillez sur le visuel pour un rendu sublime. 

Une fois cette introduction créée, il va falloir faire un choix : emportez avec vous le carnet de voyages pour le compléter durant votre séjour ou le laisser à la maison pour le réaliser lors de votre retour. Évidemment, il est possible de combiner les deux. Mais si vous décidez de ne pas l’emporter, prévoyez de prendre des notes tout au long du voyage pour ne rien oublier.

Emporter dans sa valise le matériel nécessaire pour écrire et illustrer son carnet

Matériel indispensable.

Si vous décidez d’emporter votre carnet avec vous et noter au fur et à mesure les visites et expériences vécues, il vous faudra à tout prix glisser dans votre valise ou sac à dos le matériel indispensable :

• un crayon ;
• une gomme ;
• des feutres à pointes fines ;
• des crayons de couleurs. 

Carnet de voyage en aquarelle

Pour les artistes qui souhaitent réaliser des dessins, des croquis ou un carnet de voyage en aquarelle , il vous faudra : 

• une pince à linge pour maintenir les feuilles de papier s’il y a du vent ;
• une petite bouteille d’eau ;
• des godets ;
• un gobelet accordéon en plastique ;
• un chiffon ;
• des pinceaux (ceux habituels).

  Il existe également les crayons aquarellables et le pinceau à réserve d’eau plus pratiques en voyage.

Collectionner les tickets d’entrées et autres souvenirs

Lors de votre séjour, gardez précieusement tous les tickets de visites , billets, cartes de restaurants et autres souvenirs pour pouvoir les coller sur votre carnet de voyage. Ces petits plus seront du plus bel effet et vous pourrez facilement vous remémorer ces instants. 

Astuce : collez des petites enveloppes sur certaines pages pour pouvoir y insérer de nombreux tickets et photos. 

Ranger les photos de voyage dans l’ordre chronologique et les coller

Avant de compléter votre carnet de voyages, je vous conseille de ranger les photos dans l’ordre chronologique pour revivre ce séjour pleinement lors de vos séances souvenirs assis sur le canapé avec votre carnet entre les mains. 

Vous pourrez ainsi vous rappeler votre arrivée dans le pays, mais aussi tous ces moments vécus au cours de ce voyage. Malheureusement, vous y trouverez à la fin votre retour à la maison. Mais c’est certainement pour mieux repartir pour une nouvelle destination. 

Légender les photos sélectionnées avec une petite anecdote

Pour que ce carnet de voyage soit plus qu’un simple album photos, agrémentez ce carnet avec des légendes . Elles peuvent être simplement informatives et détailler les visites effectuées. Mais elles peuvent également être humoristiques. Ce sont ces dernières que vous aimerez particulièrement relire dans quelques années. 

Pour faire un carnet de voyage scrapbooking à 100 %, n’hésitez pas orner ce beau journal de bord avec du masking tape mais aussi des stickers, des tampons ou pochoirs. Vous pourrez facilement trouver ce matériel en magasin rayon loisirs créatifs ou sur Internet. Les kits scrapbooking sont parfois une bonne alternative. N’oubliez pas de colorer le tout pour un rendu vitaminé et agréable à feuilleter. 

Faire un beau carnet de voyage , c’est le réaliser en suivant ses émotions et ses envies avec photos et souvenirs à l’appui. Il est également possible de réaliser un carnet de voyages sous différentes formes : à imprimer, en ligne…

Faire un carnet de voyage à imprimer

Une autre possibilité est de fabriquer un carnet de voyage depuis son ordinateur que vous imprimerez ensuite. Il faut alors un peu maîtriser la bureautique (Word, Openoffice, Publisher…) pour avoir un rendu agréable à regarder et équilibré en couleurs et formes. Mais cela est facilement réalisable. 

Concevez-le comme un livre à éditer : page de garde, sommaire à remplir, page d’introduction sur le pays ou le voyage prévu. Puis, préparez des pages qui seront à remplir par la suite avec des écrits, des photos ou autre souvenir.

Faire un carnet de voyage numérique en ligne

Pour ceux qui souhaiteraient créer un carnet de voyage en ligne , cela est assez simple et intuitif. Je vous conseille de faire des recherches sur Internet pour trouver des sites proposant ces services. Voici une petite sélection pour vous aider dans cette recherche :

• Le site Mymaps de Google permet de créer votre propre carte dans Google Maps. Il est possible de placer des points sur une carte Google Maps vierge, de tracer des lignes ou des formes en y intégrant du texte. La carte peut être ensuite partagée avec vos proches. 
• Le carnet de voyage numérique de memotrips propose à votre entourage de vous suivre durant tout votre séjour. Vous pouvez ainsi y insérer des photos, mais aussi des anecdotes et des adresses. Ensuite, à votre retour, vous n’aurez plus qu’à le faire imprimer si vous le souhaitez. 
• Le site Voyageursdumonde propose également un carnet de voyage numérique grâce à l’installation d’une application. Même principe qu’avec memotrips, il peut être partagé avec votre entourage.

Vous pouvez également créer un blog voyage pour raconter vos expériences et découvertes, comme je le fais. C’est un moyen d’échanger et de partager avec des personnes du monde entier. Un vrai plaisir !

CARNET DE VOYAGE By Craig Thompson 256 pp. Drawn and Quarterly. $21.95.

Back in 2004, Craig Thompson was coming into his own as a serious graphic novelist. His intimate “Blankets ” — an autobiographical tale of first love, brotherly failure and lost faith — had won a number of awards, and his success was helping to move the graphic memoir into the American mainstream. He was also, though, slightly adrift: His girlfriend had just left him, and he wanted to get out of Portland, Ore., which was full of memories of her.

Thompson’s French publisher organized a book tour, and when other publishers in other countries piled on, the trip turned into an odyssey. To stay productive and to connect to a tradition popular with other artists, Thompson committed to recording a travel diary — or “Carnet de Voyage” — as he went, sketching every day. The result is a swiftly compiled record of his travels in Europe and Morocco (where he researched his long-gestating graphic novel “Habibi”). The sketchbook-cum-travelogue is quite a dreamy object — it doesn’t use many separated panels, and drawing often fills the page, black crosshatched edges feathering and dissolving into the ragged white surround. Like others of its type, the book encourages the eye and mind to wander. This is travel in its exploded view. Close-ups of French friends jostle alongside wide-screen landscapes; little notes and arrows carry us along Thompson’s stream-of-consciousness; there’s a page on how to wind a turban, complete with steps.

Thompson’s other work can be overwrought; “Habibi,” for instance, is a claustrophobic experience, with self-consciously exquisite decoration and Orientalist fantasy crowding the pages, like vines grown too big in the hothouse. “Carnet de Voyage,” though, was made at such incredible speed — it was already at the publisher while he was still touring — that it corrects for some of that laboriousness. Thompson’s drawings are still lush and considered, flowing across the pages from his Pentel brush-pen, but the book is looser, sweeter, more suggestive than his other pieces. Yet it’s not all sweet. He often hates the trip: He’s torn about his exchanges with people in Morocco, especially when they demand money from him or he’s made to realize that they consider his portraiture intrusive. It’s clear that his subjects believe that allowing him to draw them entitles them to something — and this leaves Thompson deeply uncomfortable.

The reissued diary now includes a postscript (and postgraph) of the rest of the trip, including updates from a 2016 return visit for his “Space Dumplins” tour and a few sketches of his hosts and friends from before the “Carnet” journey. Even 12 years later, Thompson’s last thought is of the woman who left him, the searching taproot of his 2004 despair. Though, one assumes, he has long moved on, the book closes with five “Melissa” drawings, a quintet of sleeping nude portraits that are simultaneously romantic and — as we’ve been trained to see by reading the book — invasive.

Because of the way the “Carnet” functions, because it was made quickly enough to seem relatively candid, we now know how much of Thompson’s mind is taken up with searching out and drawing women. His drawing and his libido are tied up together, and it explains the expressive, caressing quality of his line. Less delightful is the way that, in a book full of wit and carefully observed detail, the women he desires all look the same. The women who are his friends look different; some of them I feel I’d recognize in the street. But sex confuses Thompson’s eye — and he sees the same curve of hip, the same bowed lip in girl after girl after girl. Explore as far as he might, that’s a blindness he does not escape.

Carnet de Voyage by Craig Thompson – review

C raig Thompson’s travel journal, Carnet de Voyage , is a comic for anyone who has ever travelled alone – and hated themselves for hating it. First published in 2004, it is not a new book. But it has been long out of print, and this lovely edition comes with 32 extra pages, there to provide a kind of update on some of the people he met on his original tour across Europe and Morocco. Clever, funny and disarmingly honest, it is, of course, predictably lovely to look at; Thompson is a master sketcher. What I like about it most, though, is the way it acts as an antidote to the all-seeing, all-consuming power of the smartphone. As its author notes in his opening pages, no cameras or mobiles were used in its making: his eyes and his brush pens did all the work.

It is 2004, and Thompson, the acclaimed author of the now classic graphic novel Blanket s , has left his home in the US, first for Europe, where he is to promote his work, and then for Morocco, where he plans to research the book that will eventually become the marvellous Habibi (2011). In Europe, he has fun. His foreign publishers take care of his travel and, thanks to various old friends and the introductions he receives to several famous cartoonists, he is never lonely (or hungry: staying with a family in a chalet in the French Alps, he can’t get over the mountains of meat and cheese they consume). Morocco, however, is a different matter. Arriving in Marrakech, the yawning gap between his exotic fantasies and the realities of life there (poverty, mass tourism, constant hustling) works to lower his spirits. Consumed by homesickness and longing for the girlfriend with whom he recently split up, he is often to be found in tears.

What saves him, of course, are his sketchbooks. It is not only that they provide a kind of protective screen, behind which he can hide. They also enable him to meet people. Those he draws in the street will often invite him to eat with their families in exchange for a sketch. He records everything he sees (markets, graveyards, sand dunes), everything he does (camel trekking, visits to tanneries, nights out with fellow tourists) and, above all, everything he feels.

A lot of this was terribly and painfully familiar to me, and will be to anyone who has travelled alone. The highs are incredible: those sudden epiphanies in which you’re consumed by a sense of freedom and privilege. But then, of course, there are the lows, when you must face up to how unexpectedly pathetic you are: unable, sometimes, even to leave your hotel room, however grim. Did you realise, before you set off, that you secretly yearn for luxury? If you did, you would never have admitted it out loud. Thompson captures all of this, and if his narrative is, as a result, sometimes a little claustrophobic, you always forgive him for it. All human life is here: in his head, as on the teeming streets.

Préparer le séjour dans un carnet de voyage

Le fonctionnement des transports est également une information pratique à avoir lorsque vous arriverez à destination. Marquez les modes de transport existants, leurs tarifs , l’endroit où se procurer des billets de métro, de train, de bus ou d’avion, le moyen de rejoindre l’aéroport ou la gare, afin de ne pas perdre de temps sur place pour des détails d’organisation.

Que vous partiez en road trip à travers le pays ou en week-end en ville, votre carnet de voyage peut contenir les différentes étapes et points d’intérêt de votre séjour .

Détaillez votre itinéraire , votre programme d’activité s’il est déjà fixé, ou tout simplement les lieux et adresses que vous avez repérés et que vous souhaitez découvrir au cours du voyage pour ne rien oublier.

Le carnet de voyage peut servir de carnet d’adresses et contenir les coordonnées des hôtels , restaurants , activités , musées pour effectuer vos réservations rapidement en voyage.

Un moyen efficace pour s’organiser en voyage est de créer des listes dans votre carnet. Vous pouvez faire des listes de tout type.

Créez par exemple une liste des équipements à ne pas oublier dans vos bagages avant de partir, des papiers à emmener, des démarches à faire avant le départ en fonction de votre destination et des éventuels visas ou vaccins requis .

Vous pouvez également mettre sous forme de liste les lieux que vous voulez visiter en priorité, les expériences que vous voulez vivre, les objectifs de votre séjour …

Le carnet de voyage sert principalement à raconter votre séjour , pendant ou après le voyage. Nous vous encourageons à nouveau à y poser tout ce qui vous passe par la tête et tout ce que vous voulez y inscrire. Voici cependant quelques pistes de contenu à créer pour votre carnet de voyage.

Le plus simple est de commencer par conter vos journées . Vous pouvez décrire des moments particuliers, des scènes qui vous ont marquées, des paysages , des anecdotes , des rencontres , des histoires drôles ou hors du commun qui vous sont arrivées…

Le but est de pouvoir vous souvenir pour toujours de votre voyage, d’en dire plus que ce que transmettrait une photo.

Vous pouvez également faire un bilan global du voyage avec vos meilleurs souvenirs.

Dans votre carnet de voyage, faites part de votre expérience . Exprimez votre ressenti , vos émotions , ce que vous avez aimé , ce que vous n’avez pas aimé .

Cela peut être à propos de visites, de restaurants, d’hébergements, d’un lieu particulier. Si vous revenez dans ce pays vous saurez ainsi ce qui est à refaire ou à éviter, et si vous souhaitez partager votre expérience à des proches ou à des inconnus via un blog ou des plateformes collaboratives, ces notes vous permettront de pouvoir retranscrire votre opinion. 

Il n’existe pas de carnet de voyage universel, le votre vous appartient et vous êtes la seule personne que vous devez satisfaire en le réalisant. Mettez-y votre créativité et votre personnalité , un carnet de voyage doit contenir tout ce que vous trouvez à y mettre pour vous forger des souvenirs.

Si vous aimez dessiner , prenez une pause devant des paysages et reproduisez-les, faites des croquis , des illustrations , des mises en pages visuelles…

Si vous ne vous sentez pas à l’aise avec le dessin, nul besoin d’être un artiste pour créer un joli carnet de voyage , il existe plein de manières de faire un carnet de voyage sans savoir dessiner  : utilisez des photos , des cartes postales , des stickers , des stylos de couleur …

Certains y collent des plantes séchées , du sable , des papiers récoltés au cours du voyage…

Il existe autant de carnets de voyage qu’il existe de voyageurs, n’hésitez pas à reprendre ces quelques pistes et à utiliser votre carnet pour préparer votre voyage et raconter votre expérience en intégrant les idées qui surviendront au cours de sa réalisation. Votre carnet de voyage doit contenir tout ce qui vous évoque des souvenirs. The “New Expanded Edition” of Craig Thompson’s Carnet de Voyage uses the occasion of the reissue to allow the author to reframe his earlier narrative. It’s a good use of the device. Sketchbook narratives are odd hybrids that assemble power from being intentionally a little bit of this , a little bit of that – Carnet de Voyage is a sketchbook he kept while traveling across Europe in 2004. It’s a book that chronicles its own creation, usually an interesting process to watch unfold.

Thankfully Thompson is aware of just how problematic his earlier incarnation actually was: “I CRINGE at the character I am on the page,” he says in the new Afterward. “So NAVEL-GAZEY and codependent. My petty whinings are so INSIGNIFICANT compared to what’s going on in the world.” It’s funny, but it’s also true. The Thompson of 2004 was pretty insufferable. I remember 2004. I lived through Blanketsmania . It was A Time, certainly – a time of men and their sad romanticized boyhoods.

Because sketchbooks are already a kind of bricolage, it only makes sense that there’d be another chapter added at some point. It’s useful to understand that Thompson himself has learned something in the intervening years since producing these pages. The reason is that the original Carnet struggles in places against its creator’s youth. It’s no great slander to say that, at not yet thirty, Thompson was a young man. The book is about him beginning the process of growing and up and getting over himself, and its good to know he did, at least a little bit, in the intervening fourteen years.

As a genre travel narratives are both necessary and problematic in equal measure. Necessary because human beings need to understand one another, and anything that bridges those gaps is worthy of celebration. Problematic because there are so many ways to communicate difference in ways that hinder rather than enable understanding. For centuries books very similar to Thompson’s Carnet were able to define the parameters of the non-English speaking world more or less arbitrarily based on poor and often malicious transliterations of cultural practices in one part of the world to another part of the world.

Thompson is aware of this, to the extent that thinking through these problems also became central to Habibi , the book that followed Carnet and inherited from the earlier volume Thompson’s interest in North African culture and design. There’s a Catch-22 here and it’s central to the book and most books like it: young men who go overseas to gain a bit of maturity from a more worldly perspective sometimes learn that real maturity only begins with the insight that other peoples’ countries weren’t created to be backdrops for the musings of sensitive young men.

But of course the whole point of cartoonists releasing sketchbooks – any kind of sketchbooks, narrative or no – is the drawing. Thompson can certainly draw. I’ve my issues with the man’s body of work but his books still sit on my shelf, and they sit on my shelf because he knows how to draw really well. I like looking at his drawings even if I struggle sometimes to engage with the solipsism of his earlier material. 

That same solipsism gets a bit of a pass in Carnet, if only because the book is already autobiographical. Accusing it of solipsism would be a bit like yelling at fish for getting the carpet wet. As it is, bumming around two continents for a few months does wonders for Thompson. He gets sick, draws a lot of pretty girls, goes snowboarding, rides a camel. Sounds like a fun trip. There are worse ways to get out of your head.

Thompson is a smarter cartoonist than he is writer. If you think that’s a specious distinction when the person doing the writing is the same person doing the drawing, think about how effective Thompson’s sketches are throughout the volume, how expressive and curious and confident his lines are regardless of his tools or medium, and how at odds the technical virtuosity on display is with the lack of confidence expressed in every other element of his narrative. It’s an odd juxtaposition. He knew how to draw but was still a kid in so many ways.

The Thompson who finishes the book isn’t a kid anymore. He understands things like history and context a little bit better, ideas that are present in the original narrative, always pressing in at the corners, but which Thompson hadn’t yet found a way to engage with as things existing independent of their relationship to him. I actually closed the reissue thinking more highly of Thompson for having produced this updated volume, and for understanding that with an added dimension of fourteen years’ hindsight the Carnet has become a different kind of travel narrative altogether: a trip to the past. And the past is a foreign country, don’t y’know – they do things differently there.

Craig thompson.

CRAIG THOMPSON was born in Michigan in 1975. He is the writer and artist of the critically acclaimed graphic novels Blankets, Habibi, Space Dumplins, Good-bye, Chunky Rice, and Carnet de Voyage. He was awarded three Eisner awards, three Harvey awards, two Ignatz awards, and a Grammy nomination for album cover artwork on Menomena’s Friend and Foe. He lives in Los Angeles with partner Sierra Hahn and cat Momo.

Carnet de Voyage: A Café and a Hat

It was a two hour drive from Semur-en-Auxois in Bourgogne to Sancerre, the great French wine region in the Loire Valley. As great as the wine is in Sancerre, this trip was all about the Hotel La Floroine Café and a hat. In 2016 we stayed near Ménétréol-sous-Sancerre and spent our mornings at the Hotel La Floroine Café to take advantage of the free Wi-Fi. Dominique and Veronique, the owners, were so incredibly generous and took us under their wing. Every morning, without ordering, they would bring us café crèmes , croissants and yogurts “nature”.  We developed a warm connection with them. Dominique was a great chef and Veronique, always attentive to the customers, was the face of the café. The decor of this canal-side restaurant was, well… French haberdasher. Hats covered the walls, window sills, ceiling and every flat space in the cafe. All were from previous customers: military hats, baseball caps, straw hats, sombreros, Ukrainian sheepherder hats, berets – it was a visual feast. When we left for our next destination and as an expression of our appreciation and friendship, I gave them my prized tan, Indiana Jones fedora. We assured Dominique and Veronique that we would be back to see where in their collection they had placed my gift. That is a promise you make knowing that it probably won’t ever happen.  

Five years and no intervening contact makes one wonder if a busy couple running a hotel restaurant would remember two Americans who came in for croissants and free Wi-Fi.  The first thing we noticed as we pulled up was that the café was busier than we remembered. We saw one unoccupied table on the patio and headed for it. Veronique was busy with customers and as we passed by she turned slightly and said, “ Bonjour, Monsieur et Madame .” It was clear that we did not register with her. The warm home-coming I was hoping for was not to be. We sat down at the little table and were left unattended for a while. I wanted to see if I could find my hat among the hundreds decorating the cafe so I slowly moved to the inside dining area and scanned the walls and ceiling for my hat. Dominique passed me on his way to the kitchen and I received the standard “Bonjour, Monsieur”. Other than a little shot to the ego I was fine with not being recognized.  After all, there had been the drive through the beautiful French countryside and Sancerre wine tasting was on our agenda so this was going to be a good day.  

I took one more look around for my hat, standing in one place and doing a full 360°.  Upon completing my turn I found myself facing Dominique. He was pointing up and to his right. There was my hat nestled in among a colorful collection of exotic chapeaux .  He smiled, and went back into the kitchen. I scooted over to our table to share my news and suddenly Dominique appeared over my wife’s shoulder. “Nancy,” he said, “I always remember your name because I was born in Nancy. Have you been there, yet?  Michael, are you still writing stories?” A big Cheshire Cat grin spread across my face. I relaxed and removed my hat but before I could set it down Veronique popped over and said, with a big smile, “Would you like me to put this on the wall, too?” Perfect! Perfect! Perfect!  We talked a bit more before we left.  We all promised to see each other again and this time I felt confident that it would happen.
