“Brave the syrup beer” Review of Hevre

travel man krakow beer

As big fans of Travel Man, we saw the episode where Richard Ayoade and Joe Wilkinson visited Krakow, and decided to check out Hevre as it looked pretty good on the show. It's an impressive building, with cool decor and nice staff. We didn't try the food, so I can't comment on that (other than to say that it looked tasty), but we did try the beer with syrup (as shown on Travel Man). It wasn't on the drinks menu, but when we asked about it, the woman told us what flavours were available and we each ordered a different one to try (one raspberry and one ginger). It's a bit weird, as you can imagine, and a bit difficult to drink, but it was fun to try and was something a bit out of the ordinary. I'd try something different next time - and maybe go there for dinner too. The prices were a bit more expensive than other bars in the area, and the clientele was a bit more 'wine bar' than 'pub'. I can imagine it being a popular place for friends to meet for dinks after work.

We are so happy to read this kind of review! Thank you so much and hope to see you next time in our restaurant :)

Like some other reviewers I'd seen this on '48 hours' and was intrigued to see what booth the bar and syruped beer was like. It was raining and cold outside so we both had soup as well. I had french onion with a lovely whole slice cheesy crouton in and wife had cream of tomato. Both hit the spot. On the syrups...I tried the ginger and wife tried the raspberry. Both nice but we favoured the ginger. Nice twist on a good pilsner. The interior, being a place of worship previously, was quirky and different. Friendly and swift service.

Me, my husband & my parents visited Hevre the first night of our holiday. After seeing this place on the Travel Man we really wanted to visit. The room is beautiful and the food & drink was lovely too! Fair prices & was well looked after

It is so nice for us to read such comment! :) If you ever move (or visit) Kraków, you are more than welcome! :)

Stopped off for a morning coffee which was lovely and well presented. Service was good and quick and coffee was good value for money. The building was great inside and a relaxed atmosphere

Pilsner served 4 ways, but no cider. Staff were accommodating, good atmosphere, reminds you of a british pub, homely and warm with decent prices. food service until 11pm, pets welcome.

<3 Thank you! We are very happy to visit this kind of guest in our restaurant, hope to see you next time!

Craft Beer in Krakow: A Guide to the Best Breweries, Taprooms, & Craft Beer Bars

  • Last Updated March 17, 2024
  • Poland , Europe

Beyond Warsaw, Krakow is one of the best cities in Poland, if not Europe, to sample Polish craft beers, as well as small batch beers from independent breweries around the world. However, just a decade ago, it was almost impossible to find anything occupying the taps in the city’s numerous pubs other than the usual mass-produced, tasteless lagers.

Anyone visiting the country will notice that Polish beer culture has come a long way in the intervening years, competing favourably with the craft scenes in almost any other European nation thanks to the explosion of Polish craft breweries and multi-tap bars that have caused a dramatic increase in the diversity of beers available in both pubs and shops.

All it took was a small number of entrepreneurial pub owners in Krakow, sick of the bland output from the national breweries that had been taken over by the likes of Heineken and Carlsberg following in the years following the fall of communism, to start selling beers from smaller, regional and independent breweries instead. Thankfully, the city’s beer drinkers began to take note and these bars built a loyal clientele.

Omerta pub in Kazimierz was one of the first to take this leap, and started selling bottled beers from smaller Polish breweries in 2008. They now have 30 draught taps and have even expanded into the premises next door, such is their popularity.

A short distance away, in the Old Town, The House of Beer has achieved similar success. While it is a more recent opening than Omerta, this stylish drinking spot has stocked over 400 different beers to date and claims to have over 200 beers available on any given day.

Omerta and House of Beer are not the only bars that have leapt into this craft beer revolution. Since their opening, a cluster of fantastic bars have popped up in the hip, former Jewish Quarter of Kazimierz and scattered between the ornate spires and bustling squares of Stare Miasto you will find fantastic multitap pubs such as Viva la Pinta and Multi Qlti Tap Bar.

Krakow’s brewing scene has also come a long way. For over a century, Browar Lubicz was the city’s dominant brewery and following its closure in 2001, only C.K Brower remained. Gradually, more microbreweries began to appear to quench Krakow’s taste for craft, starting with Stara Zajezdnia, the first new brewery in Kazimierz for many years who set up shop inside a vast, former tram depot to produce a range of unpasteurised beers inspired by their Czech master brewer, followed by real ale brewers T.E.A Time and even the local university, who launched their own brewhouse under the moniker Browar Górniczo-Hutniczy (BGH).

What has resulted from this step-change is a city is that Krakow has cast aside its reputation for cheap lager and the ubiquitous vodka, replacing them with pints of rich porter, IPAs and even very English real ales. Krakow, a city established as a centre for culture, festivals, and architecture can now also take its place as one of Poland’s finest beer destinations.

Breweries & Taprooms in Krakow

Although Poland’s beer output is more closely associated with macro-breweries like Lech, Tyskie, and Zywiec, Kraków is home to a number of fantastic brew pubs whose beers are rarely seen beyond their own premises, making them an essential stop for any beer-lover visiting the city.

T.E.A Time Brewpub

A home from home for Krakow-based Brits and tourists alike, T.E.A Time is Poland’s first and only real ale brewpub, serving freshly brewed ‘Traditional English Ale’ (T.E.A.) from Co-owner, Dave Twigg (Cambridge doctoral graduate and brewer) on cask, something that is rarely seen elsewhere in the country. Notably, these are all served by the pint (13.6% larger than the typical Polish half-litre) and half-pint.

T.E.A Time Brewpub, Krakow

Alongside British-style beers, you can get your fix at home by ordering fish and chips or taking part in their weekly pub quiz. The pub has been decorated in a style reminiscent of an old English ale house and the room down stairs allows you to get a view of the brewery, which is in the basement.

Where: Klub Studio, Witolda Budryka 4 When: Daily 12pm – 12am

Browar Górniczo-Hutniczy

Although craft brewing is mostly associated with relatively small scall operations or independent producers, Krakow’s Akademia Górniczo-Hutniczy, the University of Science & Technology, has recently dipped its toes into the beer game by opening its very own microbrewery. You will find Browar Górniczo-Hutniczy (BGH) on their campus just west of the city centre in Bronowice, on the site of Klub Studio, one of Krakow’s best event venues.

Where: Klub Studio, Witolda Budryka 4 When: Monday to Friday 4pm – 12am; Saturday & Sunday 12pm -12am

Browar Górniczo-Hutniczy, Krakow

Viva La Pinta

Run by Browar Pinta, one of the oldest and most widely respected craft brewers in Poland and one of the first to ply the trade, Viva La Pinta is their Krakow outpost, but you’ll also find their pubs in Warsaw, Wroclaw, Sopot and the Beskidy mountains.

Viva La Pinta Krakow

You’ll find Viva La Pinta down an alleyway just of Floriańska, which opens up into a spacious beer garden. In winter this is closed and the patio heaters are brought inside the cosy interior where you will find knowledgeable bar staff waiting to advise you on which Pinta beer to sample.

Where: Floriańska 13 When: Monday to Saturday 4pm – 12am;  Sunday 2pm – 11pm

C.K. Browar

Founded back in 1996 (making them technically the oldest continuously running brewery in Krakow) in a cellar below a building opposite Krakow’s Planty, the garish exterior hides a wonderful and cavernous beer hall style room the wooden tables are all illuminated with colourful billiard lamps.

The beers here are generally simple and unpretentious, such as dark and wheat, but they do branch out with slightly more pretentious honey or ginger varieties. While I recommend purchasing a flight to sample all of their output, CK Browar is especially known for its 5-litre tubes that you will find adorning the tables, just make sure you have some friends to share it with.

Where: Podwale 7 When: Sunday to Thursday 12pm – 12am; Friday & Saturday 12pm – 1am

Although Brokreacja are located 45km away in Szczyrzyc, their Krakow outpost and taproom is situated a short walk from Wawel Royal Castle, tucked away in a quiet courtyard in between the Old Town and Kazimierz.

There are 16 taps serving only their own beers, which range from pils and fruited IPAs to a Whiskey Rye Double Brown Porter and everything in between. The food on offer is the standard pizza and burger fare but it is worth showing up to sample their beers alone. The space inside the bar is limited but there is a decent little beer garden out front, and the décor – taken directly from the beer labels – is fairly distinctive, with each of their brews represented by a uniquely designed character.

Where: Stradomska 11 When: Monday to Thursday 2pm – 12am; Friday 2pm – 1am; Saturday 12pm – 1am; Sunday 12pm – 11pm

BroPub Krakow

Browar Lubicz

Originally founded in 1840 when a Swiss brewer, Rudolf Jenny, constructed a brewery on urban land in the Wesoła district, Lubicz is a Krakow institution.

Although it closed for good in 2001 after 161 years of production, the brewery was restored and refurbished just 14 years later in the form of a modern brewpub located in the post-industrial Malt House building which was built in the second half of the 19th century, under the watchful eye of Krzysztof Ozdarski, the chief brew master who over 30 years experience plying his trade in the brewing industry.

As well as the brewery, there is also an on-site restaurant serving traditional Polish cuisine where you can sample Lubicz Lager, Wheat and dark beers alongside whatever seasonal variation has recently been added to the tap list. The brewery also has its own hotel and apartments in the form of Browar Lubicz Residence .

Where: Lubicz 17J When: Monday to Wednesday 4pm – 11pm; Thursday 4pm – 12am; Friday 4pm – 1am; Saturday 2pm – 1am; Sunday 1pm – 9pm

Stara Zajezdnia Kraków

In the heart of Kazimierz, Stara Zajezdnia is housed in the vast surroundings of one of the Jewish Quarter’s old factory cargo terminals, retaining much of the depot’s industrial character. In the summer months, drinkers lounge upon deck chairs in the outdoor space, but the enormous main hall – which features the city’s longest bar – only opens for special events of over 100 guests.

Stara Zajezdnia Kraków

When the main hall isn’t open, the smaller outbuildings act as the bar and restaurant where you can taste the beers brewed on site, and they are good too. This is one of the city’s best microbreweries and their core range is much more interesting than what many other Krakow breweries have to offer: a pear wheatbeer, pineapple APA, orange bitter, and a dark beer with buckwheat honey.

Where: Świętego Wawrzyńca 12 When: Monday to Wednesday 5pm – 10pm; Thursday 4pm – 11pm; Friday 3pm – 12am; Saturday 1pm – 12am; Sunday 12pm – 9pm

Craft Beer Bars in Krakow

Throughout the old town and Kazimierz, Krakow is packed with all manner of places to drink, from traditional pubs and beer halls to upmarket bars and nightclubs. Thankfully there are also an abundance of specialist beer bars serving brews from some of Poland’s best craft breweries. Here are my recommendations:

House of Beer

Situated on the ground floor of a beautiful townhouse on the junction of Tomasza and Krzyza streets, just a couple of minutes from the Main Square and close to Planty Park, the House of Beer is a rather elegant setting for a craft beer bar: The traditional bar stands in a high-ceilinged room and is hewn from dark, varnished wood and tall cases stand at one end, filled with beer paraphernalia. Mix this with leather furnishings and moody lighting and it is a far cry from some of the city’s livelier drinking spots.

travel man krakow beer

There’s a good selection of pub food on the menu but the main reason to visit is the beer. There are 200 bottled varieties and 21 draught beers over two bars, mostly local and served by friendly, knowledgeable bar staff.

Where: Świętego Tomasza 35 When: Sunday to Wednesday 2pm – 12am; Thursday 2pm – 12.45am; Friday & Saturday 2pm – 12.45am

Multi Qlti Tap Bar

If you need somewhere to drink great beer close to the main Market square, you can’t do much better than Multi Qlti Tap Bar. Taking the place of one of the city’s infamous stripclubs on Ulica Szewska, the bar – with 20 beers on tap and hundreds of bottled varieties – can get pretty busy on weekends as it is in the midst of Krakow’s most hectic nightlife areas. However, during the week this is a relaxed affair, with locals and tourists alike sitting in the café-style setting sampling some of Poland’s finest brews.

Where: Szewska 21 When: Monday 4pm – 11pm; Tuesday & Wednesday 4pm – 12am; Thursday 4pm – 1am; Friday 4pm – 2am; Saturday 3pm – 2am; Sunday 3pm – 12am

It’s worth venturing outside of the old town or Kazimierz to find this off-the-beaten-track gem that is, in my mind, the best craft beer spot in Krakow.

travel man krakow beer

Thankfully, you won’t have far to walk. Świat Piwa is still only a 10-minute stroll across Planty Park from the main square and once you step through the threshold you will find a veritable Aladdin’s cave of beer; This bottle shop has over 700 different beers on offer as well as a few tap lines and a scattering of tables if you wish to drink inside.

Where: Rajska 6 When: Sunday to Wednesday 10am – 11pm; Thursday to Saturday 10am – 12am

Nowy Kraftowy

You will find this great craft beer bar hidden away just off Plac Nowy – and it is well hidden – from the outside, only the front door is on display, but head down a few steps and it opens up into a cool, dimly lit bar with an expensive conservatory area. The atmosphere and design may be more in-line with a late-night bar, but they have one of the best beer selections in the city at around 25 draught lines.

Where: Plac Nowy 8 When: Monday 4pm – 12am; Tuesday to Thursday 4pm – 1am; Friday 4pm – 2am; Saturday 2pm – 2am; Sunday 1pm – 11pm

Nowy Kraftowy, Krakow

Strefa Piwa

Despite its bland ‘Beer Zone’ moniker, Strefa Piwa distinguishes itself from Kazimierz’s abundance of cool drinking spots by ditching the inductrial and antique-chic style in favour of something a little less fussy: The narrow room and curved ceiling give the impression of a Czech pivnice, and a cross between a cosy pub and a beer hall. In a nod to the architectural features, there is a good selection of beers from Poland’s neighbour, mostly from quality Czech microbreweries rather than the usual macros such as Staropramen and Pilsner Urquell , alongside 8 taps of Polish brews and a huge bottle selection.

Where: Józefa 6 When: Sunday to Thursday 4pm – 11pm; Friday and Saturday 4pm – 1am

Weźże Krafta

Weźże once occupied space at the popular but now defunct Tytano complex, that sat between the Old Town and the AGH University of Science and Technology. It has since moved to premises to the hip Kazimierz district. , taking up residence in a mural-covered building next to Galicia Jewish Museum.

Weźże Krafta, Krakow

While some of the industrial design and DIY aesthetic may have been lost in the move in favour of something a little more sleek and stylish, Weźże still very much has a laid back vibe, especially in the early evening before the crowds arrive and the dimly lit upstairs rooms are a calm oasis for beer-lovers to relax with one of the 25 beers that are offered on draught. It’s one of the best beer bars in the city, as well as being one of the coolest drinking destinations Krakow has to offer.

Where: Dajwór 16 When: Monday 4pm – 11pm; Tuesday & Wednesday 4pm – 12am; Thursday 4pm – 1am; Friday 4pm – 2am; Saturday 3pm – 2am; Sunday 3pm – 11pm

Weźże Krafta Krakow

Just a stone’s-throw from Weźże Krafta on the eastern edge of Kazimierz, lies a beer bar that is relatively undiscovered by tourists but popular with craft beer-loving locals. First opening its doors in 2016, this is a an unpretentious, slightly rustic looking place, focusing on its beer rather than chic décor. The 10 taps are taken up by mostly Polish beers that are all relatively inexpensive, even by Poland’s standards. It’s also close to one of the biggest beer halls in Krakow – Stara Zajezdnia – making it a perfect stop off on a pub crawl of the city’s Jewish Quarter.

Where: Świętego Wawrzyńca 22 When: Monday to Thursday 2pm – 12am; Friday & Saturday 2pm – 2am; Sunday 2pm – 11pm

Craftownia, Krakow

Even in a city that is packed with pubs, Omerta has managed to make a name for itself as one of the best beer bars in town, becoming a favourite of Krakow’s beer aficionados. There’s a good reason for this: Omerta was one of the first pubs in the city specialised in craft beer and now have over 30 taps as well as over 150 different bottled beers.

Where: Kupa 3 When: Sunday to Thursday 4pm – 12am; Friday & Saturday 4pm – 1am

Pierwszy Lokal na Stolarskiej

With a name that fully translates to “The First Place on Stolarska Street, on the left when walking from the Mały Rynek”, this isn’t so much a bar but a quaint and quiet café that happens to serve a good selection of beers from Browar Stary Kraków who has a short-lived stint as contract brewers between 2005 and 2007 before being taken over and resurrected by Wronin-based Browar Relakspo.

Pierwszy Lokal na Stolarskiej, Krakow

Pierwszy Lokal na Stolarskiej were the first venue to introduce the brewery’s Dragon’s Head Ale to the market and still have their beers on heavy rotation. It can be difficult to find a spot for a quiet pint in Krakow’s bustling old town so it is worth stopping off for a quick one.

Where: Stolarska 6 When: Monday to Thursday 8.30am – 2am; Friday 8.30am – 3am; Saturday 9am – 3am; Sunday 9am – 1am

Krakow Beer map

Whether you are planning a Krakow pub crawl or just want to locate one of the breweries mentioned above, this map includes all the best brewpubs and microbreweries that were covered in this guide.

Using this map: This map shows both the city’s breweries (red icons) and craft beer bars (orange icons). The list can be seen and filtered by toggling the icon on the top left-hand-side of the map, and each location can be explored further by clicking them. Beer Festivals in Krakow

Beer festivals are a great way to sample the delights of breweries from all over Poland without having to travel across the country and there are a few big ones, all within easy reach of Krakow, that celebrates the best local brews and are marked in the calendars of every Polish beer-lover.

Each year, the most important craft breweries from all over Poland and the Czech Republic gather at Krakow’s Cracovia Stadium to showcase their beers at the city’s largest beer festival. Alongside the opportunity to sample great beer, the three-day festival also features a wide range of other craft alcohols, a food zone, stage performances, and lectures to help visitors deepen their knowledge of brewing and the range of beers on offer.

Birofilia Festival at Żywiec Brewery

Żywiec, located 90km southwest of Krakow, may be home to the country’s most famous beer export, but it is also home to the Żywiec Brewery Museum which hosts this annual festival. Expect brewing competitions and demonstrations as well as talks and tours from local guides.

Krakow Wreaths Festival (Krakowski Festiwal Wianki)

Taking place on the summer solstice, the festival celebrates the pre-Christian tradition of making wreaths to celebrate the longest day of the year. Yes, this is not strictly a beer festival, but breweries are amongst the main sponsors of the event, which means that it is the perfect excuse to enjoy a few beers on the banks of the Vistula during a balmy summer night.

Silesia Oktobeer Fest

In the nearby city of Katowice, the Silesia Beer Festival has been taking place yearly since 2015. The first edition of the festival took place in the Giesche Porcelain Factory and has since expanded, first to the Wilson Glass Factory and finally to the city’s culture zone. As well as showcasing the best of Polish craft breweries, the festival also hosts workshops, talks, and discussion panels dedicated to brewing.

Krakow Beer Tours

What could be better way to sample a city’s beer scene than venturing off the tourist path and connecting with local beer professionals over a cold one? With Krakow offering so much choice in breweries and craft beer bars, it is always better to take the advice of someone in the know and a guided tour is the perfect way to do this.

Hoppy Tours offer an in-depth tour of a local microbrewery led by a master brewer that includes traditional Polish food and an 8-beer tasting session while Delicious Poland has a 3-hour long trip that takes in three of Krakow’s best drinking spots.

Where to Stay in Krakow

Krakow is Poland’s most visited city so it should be no surprise that is brimming with hotels to fit almost every taste or budget, with the old town – Stare Miasto – containing everything from party hostels to luxury hotels that occupy former castles and opulent townhouses.

The old town is relatively compact but there are still great accommodation options outside of it in the Jewish Quarter and south of the Vistula, with the city’s affordable and efficient public transport system of trams and buses makes it easy to get around and explore further.

Greg & Tom Beer House Hostel

There are quite a few hostels in Krakow suited to large groups or those wanting to party, but no others have the word ‘beer’ in their name, making Greg and Tom’s beer house the perfect place to stay for the travelling beer aficionado. Located in the old town close to most of the city’s major attractions, Greg and Tom’s beer house offers free breakfast and dinner, and hosts plenty of social events such as pub and club crawls to help you meet fellow beer-loving backpacker.

Amber Design Residence

Situated near Planty Park in a 1930s town house on a quiet residential street, Amber Design Residence contains 34 beautifully stylish rooms and apartments that are perfect if you prefer to have a self-catered stay in Krakow. There is also a sheltered garden as well as a small spa and gym.

Hotel Copernicus

Housed in a regal 14th-century building on Krakow’s oldest street, Hotel Copernicus contains 29 luxurious rooms that are decorated in a classic and understated style, retaining historic features such as the wooden beams and medieval frescoes. The hotel is just a short walk from Wawel Castle and the rooftop terrace gives stunning views of the Old Town. For an extra treat, ensure you book ahead for the tasting menu in the Copernicus Restaurant.

How to get to Krakow

Krakow’s John Paul II International Airport (KRK) is around 11km west of the city, with regular flights available from most UK airports.

There is a train connecting Kraków Airport and Kraków Głowny railway station, running approximately every 30 minutes between 5am and 10:30pm. The route takes around 20 minutes.

The airport’s train station is just a short walk from the arrivals area and well-signposted with ticket machines situated on the platform. However, with a limited number of machines available, there can often be a queue so it is easier to download the iMKA app and purchase your train tickets. The app can also be used to buy bus and tram tickets throughout your stay in Krakow.

Alternatively, bus lines 208 and 252 connect the airport with the city center during the day and the number 902 runs throughout the night. There is also a frequent Flixbus service, that takes just 25 minutes, running at all hours and can be booked through Trainline .

The Best Craft Beer in Krakow: A Guide for Travellers

We’ve cobbled together a list of the best beer in Kraków for you, including some awesome spots to grab a craft beer. The selection is dotted across the Old Town, Kazimierz, Podgorze, and Dolnych Młynów. There’s everything from local pilsners and wheat beers, to APA’s and chilli stouts. We hope you enjoy, because our livers may just have died for this list. Cheers to the best craft beer in Krakow!

British-style Beer in Krakow:

Tea time brew pub - dietla 1.

If what you had in mind was something between classic British pub culture and locally brewed Polish beer, TEA Time is what you’re after. Co-owner, Dave Twigg (Cambridge doctoral graduate and brewer), supplies some of the very fine beers and ales found here, under “Browar Twigg”. Look for ‘Pale Blue Dot’ if they have it on tap, an excellent IPA.

Expect to find some traditional British fish and chips to go along with your beer here. Monday nights they host a Pub Quiz -the perfect accompaniment to quality beer. They also have some rooms downstairs where you can view the brewing process. Lastly, in summer there are seats outside to enjoy your beer in the sun by the river. The prefect stop for a walk along the Vistula river.

Loads of Space to Sit:

Poli pub - dietla 97.

This Tap House is probably your best bet for a place to go if you absolutely need to find a table. It’s really big and it’s located half way between the Old town and the Jewish district Kazimierz. Also, it’s not that well sign posted so it doesn’t attract flocks of tourists. Inside is comfy with an area for music, some screens with sports on, and a spacious smoking room.

Poli Pub is a tap house owned by the prominent Polish Craft brewery ‘Dr Brew’. These guys supply excellent craft beer to the masses in Poland. Despite the beer being really great, the prices are still significantly lower than in some of the other craft beer spots in Krakow. In addition, if you’re not really after any IPA’s or fancy stuff, and you’d rather have a solid pint of Czech pils, a full pint will only set you back about 8 PLN (just under 2 euro)!

Craft Beer in the Heart of Hipstertown:

Craftownia - świętego wawrzyńca 22.

Yet another undiscovered Craft beer pub, just off the beaten track. This one’s a go-to when we’re after the best beer in Krakow. Craftownia sports decent beer and lies just outside of the touristy hot spots. A bit of peace and quiet from the traffic. Their beer is good quality and inexpensive. They are also conveniently located just a stone’s throw from one of the first food truck spots to emerge in Krakow, where you can try all sorts of late night food after filling up with Craft Beer. Further down the same street you’ll find one of the biggest beer halls in Krakow – Stara Zajezdnia. But more on Beer halls in another article…

One of Krakow’s OG’s:

Multi qlti - szewska 21.

Multi Qlti was one of the first craft beer houses in Krakow that went for the mdoern, trendy, industrial brewery look. The bar itself hosts a great selection of regional  beers. And some nice vodka options too!

The environment in Multi Qlti is great. Comfortable seating, and tables and chairs that you’d almost say were like something out of the 60’s. The walls are painted with murals, which offer interesting talking points if there’s a lull in conversation. Lastly it’s right off the main Market square on Szewska street, which is one of the most lively streets on a Friday or Saturday night. This all makes Multi Qlti one of the best tap houses in the city to start your night, particularly if you’re going to follow it up with some clubbing.

Best International Selection of Beer in Krakow:

Omerta - kupa 3.

In the heart of Kazimierz, just around the corner from Plac Nowy, is one of the earliest and most well stocked Craft Beer pubs in Krakow. Omerta. They’ve probably got the best selection of international craft beers in Krakow too. Inside Omerta are two bars on opposite ends of the premises, one side pouring domestic Craft Beer, and the other pouring imported.

Omerta is a dark and cozy, with small tables to have a beer with one or two mates, or large sofas to sit around with a bigger groups. In our opinion, knowledgeable bar staff make a big difference when you walk into a Craft Beer pub. They need to be able to pick out something for you to try based on what you tell them you’re looking for. Brilliant bar staff can even tell you some history about each beer they sell. Omerta earns big points with knowledgable bar staff. In our humble opinion, this is the best tap house to come to if you’re going to follow it up with a night out in Kazimierz.

Board Games and Craft Beer Anyone?

Domówka - miodowa 28.

The name Domówka translates to House Party, which is exactly what spending an evening here feels like. The owners seem to have had a very clear picture of what they wanted to do when they started this bar.

Getting closer to the Jewish area Kazimierz we find Domówka. This is a warm, welcoming Craft Beer bar which would probably call itself a game bar with the dozens of board- and card-games available upon request from the bar. The board game craze has taken recently in Krakow, and we’ve found it actually goes pretty well with a beer in hand!

Domówka takes table reservations up until oddly late hours even on Friday and Saturday nights. This is a bit annoying for those who don’t plan ahead, but fantastic for those who have something specific in mind like drinks with mates and a game of monopoly. A few years ago they were saying that staying in was the new going out. Domówka provides a night in experience in a bar with great beer.

Great Beer Garden:

Radocha - sebastiana 6.

If the term “hidden gem” strikes a chord with you, then this is THE place for you. Hidden between the traveller-dense Old Town, and the hipster-dense Kazimierz is a belt of watering holes that in-the-know tourists and locals frequent. In the middle of this belt you’ll find Radocha, a quaint little bar with a fantastic beer garden, and a clean and cozy basement bar. This is one of the spots we highly recommend checking out for a beer in Krakow.

90’s Themed Beer Bar:

Miejscówka - józefińska 4.

Skateboards, long boards, 90’s grunge artwork and craft beer. Who’d have thought they were a good combo? Well somehow they all work together. Miejscówka means ‘hang out’ basically, somewhere that you and your friends might go and kick back and spend some time together, without a care in the world. The interior of this Tap house is likely to drum up a lot of nostalgia for anyone who grew up watching 90’s television.

There are board games around this bar too, so you can knock out a few games of scrabble or monopoly with your mates. Their beer selection is smaller than some others on our list. They usually have around 10 – 12 local Craft Brews on tap, and a wider selection in bottles. In the winter this little bar has a cozy indoor area, although it’s not huge. In the summer it’s got some great outdoor seating in front of the bar. It’s right by the river, on the outskirts of Podgorze – an area of Krakow that is relatively undiscovered, quieter and worth a visit even if you’re only here for a short time. It’s on the way to one of the Kopiec mounds (hills that overlook the city). We highly recommend visiting these to get the best views of Krakow for free.

Step into Miejscówka on your walk back to the city and try out something refreshing, and maybe nip in next door to Zakładka, one of Krakow’s best restaurants (yet reasonably priced) if you feel like you deserve to treat yourself.

Most Extensive List of Craft Beer in Krakow:

Tap house - świętego jana 30.

Almost all of the tap houses on our list are located in areas great for nightlife. However, Tap House is a little more hidden down a street that is far less frequented. Despite this, it doesn’t fail to draw a crowd. If you want any hope of sitting somewhere a little less packed on a Friday or Saturday night, Tap House is your best bet for a beer in Krakow. They aren’t owned by any Brewery in particular, so you’ll find a bit of everything in here.

They have cool understated artwork on the walls and they’ve got sofas and benches all about the place for sitting and chilling with your friends. It’s within the old town, a couple of minutes by foot from the Market Square. You should definitely give this one a look if you want a low-key beer with friends, family or a partner. They offer free water for designated drivers which we think is a nice touch and they were selling an interesting sparkled cold brew coffee for non drinkers or coffee lovers.

Most Interesting Beer in Krakow:

Viva la pinta - florianska 13.

Viva La Pinta is a Tap Bar owned and run by one of the first craft beer producers in Poland… Browar Pinta. Over the years they’ve experimented with many different varieties of beer and flavours. In Poland their reputation for making a crowd pleasing IPA is well known. A personal Recommendation: Apetyt na Życie which means appetite for life, a light and citrusy rye beer. It’s especially refreshing in summer but pleasing year round. There are always seasonal beers available from Pinta too, so expect something dark and spiced in winter.

Viva la Pinta has quite cozy spaces inside, and knowledgeable barmen who can make really informed suggestions based on what you’re looking for and what they have. In the summer they have a nice open beer garden in front of the bar and in winter this is closed and patio heaters are placed in the conservatory, with blankets on chairs. Cherry on top… They also do bar food, the onion rings are amazing!

Most Trendy Spot for a Beer in Krakow:

Weźże krafta - dolnych młynów.

Wezze Krafta is owned by the same people who own Multi Qlti. They also have some of the same beer on tap here. Wezze Krafta is located not in the Old Town, but in the bar and restaurant area known as Dolnych Młynów. Dolnych Młynów should be on your list of spots to visit in krakow anyway – it’s awesome (check out our article on it here). But in addition, Wezza Krafta in Dolnych Młynów is one of the best spots to find beer in Krakow, and one of the best spots to come to in general for nightlife.

This area is essentially a project that was started around 2015 where they modernised an old tobacco factory and lots of little cafes, restaurants, bars and tap houses opened up. There’s even a club out there in a big old warehouse.

Wezze Krafta is a huge room that was formally part of a factory, with very high ceilings and industrial-style design, like the rest of Dolnych Młynow. In Summer it’s got lots of outdoor seating and in winter it’s spacious enough for you and your friends to find somewhere to sit on a Friday night. Comfy seating and great beer with well thought out lighting and ambience make this a great place to come with friends.

The Costs in Kraków – What is the Food, Drinks and Beer Price?

Lukasz

If you want to learn about the food and drink prices in Kraków, let me start by saying that Krakow’s Market Square has always been known for its breathtaking views rather than its budget-friendly prices . If you want to enjoy the majestic sight of the Cloth Hall or the St. Mary’s Church while eating or drinking, it might cost you a few extra zlotys. But then, isn’t it worth splurging a bit to sip your coffee or savor your lunch in such an awe-inspiring setting?

Pricing of Coffee in Kraków Main Market Square

First things first, when you hit the Market Square, I think, you’re likely to indulge in some sightseeing, casual strolls, and of course, a cup of coffee or a mug of beer. However, let me tell you, the cost of these beverages varies quite a bit.

In the first cafe I visited, prices began at PLN 13 for an espresso (double for PLN 17) and went up to PLN 31 for an Irish coffee. A cappuccino could set you back PLN 16, while a coffee served with ice cream and whipped cream was priced at PLN 21.

travel man krakow beer

The story was the same elsewhere – an espreso was PLN 12.9 (double for PLN 16.9), but a cappuccino was PLN 15.9, and an Irish coffee cost PLN 21. Iced coffee was available for PLN 19.9.

↳ Make sure to read my guide to the most amazing places to stay in Kraków: How to Find Best Place to Stay in Krakow Old Town – Your Guide

But here’s the good news, if you’re on a budget, there are options for you as well. For instance, in a cafe near St. Mary’s Church, a cup of coffee, white or black, comes for just PLN 11.

How Much Does Beer Cost in Krakow’s Market Square

If you’ve been wondering about the cost of beer in Krakow’s Market Square, let me tell you, it largely depends on the kind of place you choose to visit. This vibrant market square is home to an array of establishments, each with its own price range and level of service.

In high-quality restaurants located in the Market Square, you can expect to pay between PLN 14 to PLN 20 for a half-litre of Polish draft corporate beer. If you’re in the mood for something more premium , prices for draft beer in upscale pubs can climb higher than PLN 14, going up to PLN 23 for a large draft Guinness.

  • Please read this article too, you will see how the oldest restaurants in Kraków look from inside: Unveiling Krakow’s Oldest Restaurants – Feasting on Tradition

But what if you’re a fan of craft beer? I am convinced you’d love the offerings in Krakow. However, keep in mind that these special brews can cost more than corporate beers . Depending on the type you opt for, prices for a 0.5 litre craft beer can range between PLN 20 to even PLN 40.

Budget-friendly Beer Options Away From the Market Square

Being there, you need to know that there are also more budget-friendly establishments near the Market Square. They might offer a different level of service or cater to a different clientele, but they provide affordable alternatives.

  • If you like beer, then you really need to read this article too: The Best Bars and Pubs in Kraków – Your Ultimate Guide

In pubs that mainly sell alcohol, the price of a 0.5 litre Polish draft beer can be as low as PLN 9. Club-goers can expect to pay a bit more, with draft beer prices between PLN 12-17.

Generally, the price of beer in Krakow ranges from PLN 9 to PLN 30, depending on its quality, and of course, the location and reputation of the establishment you choose.

Quenching The Thirst with Non-alcoholic Drinks

I think it’s also important to mention the prices of non-alcoholic drinks. If you’re a fan of freshly squeezed juice, smoothies, or lemonade, these will cost you around PLN 20. To give you a rough idea, a 300 ml freshly squeezed orange juice is priced at PLN 22, while lemonade comes at PLN 16, and a fruit smoothie is almost PLN 19. Interestingly, still mineral water (700 ml) costs almost PLN 18 at some establishments, which I believe, is noteworthy.

Budgeting Your Lunch at Krakow’s Market Square

You might be wondering, „How much should I set aside for a hearty lunch at the Market Square?” Well, the cost of meals can vary greatly, largely depending on your choice of establishment.

Main Course Costs – From Comfort Food to Gourmet Delights

If you’re a fan of comfort food, a pork chop with cabbage and potatoes will cost you over PLN 35-40. Craving some seafood? A grilled salmon dish is about PLN 55. For the carnivores, a steak will set you back around PLN 80-100.

The Truth about Dinner Costs in Kraków

When it comes to dinner, the prices start from PLN 35 for a simple meal , though a juicy steak might cost you at last PLN 100. I am convinced that’s a price you’d happily pay for the experience and ambience.

Tempting Freebies and Deals

You need to know that many places also offer promotions and freebies. For instance, a free glass of sparkling wine with dinner – now that’s a charming offer, isn’t it? Other places tempt you with meal deals like a cheeseburger and beer combo for PLN 35 or a set of nachos plus two beers (or other drinks) for PLN 40.

Have Prices Increased Since Last Year?

From my conversations with restaurant and cafe staff, I can tell you that prices have seen significant increase. Interestingly, in some places, certain menu items are even cheaper than before. The intention, it seems, is to attract the locals to these establishments, especially since foreign tourists are less frequent these days , leaving some cafe gardens unusually quiet.

The Market Square houses a mix of establishments, from premium to budget-friendly, some even offering attractive promotions that weren’t there before the pandemic. However, I believe, it’s always a good idea to peruse the menu carefully before you order, just to avoid any surprises.
