Event Details

The Weather Machine is the band project of singer/songwriter Slater Smith - originally local to

Sisters, now living in New Zealand, and touring across both continents. Over the last decade

Smith has come to be known for his hearty lyricism and theatrical flair, always complimented by

the band’s reputation for exploring a wide territory, spanning everything from experimental post-

glam to more traditional indie folk and rock. Smith now returns to The Belfry, and will be joined

by opener and longtime friend Travis Ehrenstrom, both of whom share deep roots in the

community as alumni of Sisters’s unique Americana Project. Every Weather Machine show at

the Belfry is warm, tinged with nostalgia, and just a little bit of a ruckus, and tonight will be no

Smith started The Weather Machine recording in Pacific City and living in Portland, Oregon in

the early 2010s, self-releasing the ‘The Weather Machine’ album debut and sophomore ‘Peach’

with his bandmates and collaborators and seeing wide success with b-side ‘Slow Dance Slow’

released through Portland label Tender Loving Empire.

Independent and self-managed, Smith made some odd creative bedfellows by collaborating with

the Oregon State Parks system to promote environmentalism and the outdoors. This resulted in

a viral music video in ‘Back O’er Oregon,” and a collaborative concept record called ‘The

Pelican,” commemorating Oregon’s famous Beach Bill.

The Weather Machine’s success ultimately led to opening for Alabama Shakes, Lumineers,

Cold War Kids, Josh Ritter, and Mt. Joy in the late 2010s. However, the onset of the 2020

pandemic forced Smith and his bandmates to turn away from touring and inward toward

recording - but now they’re back on the road playing new songs! Recorded and produced by

Tucker Martine at Flora Studios, The Weather Machine’s latest record is full of deep thoughts,

big rock and roll sounds, and lots of fun featuring longtime Weather Machine band members

and collaborators Luke Jackson (drums), Tim Karplus (guitar & keys), Noah Berstein (sax), and

André Zapata (bass).

Travis Ehrenstrom brings quality musicianship and well-crafted original songs to every

performance. Whether gigging with his band TEB or performing solo, Travis is accompanied by

an old soul and the spirit of John Prine, Jackson Browne, and Bob Dylan. He has released four

albums—Selections (2020), Northwest Americana (2019), Something on the Surface (2018),

Remain A Mystery (2013) since his 2007 debut, Somewhere in Between. Travis’s last project,

titled “Our Creative States,” saw him traveling to and writing & releasing songs about most of

the states in the America. Look for Travis across America or at home in the Pacific Northwest.

The Weather Machine is back on tour in 2023!

The Weather Machine

weather machine tour

A playful work for young children and their families, where two witty characters make magic out of dance and weather – from the pitter patter of the lightest rain shower to the awesome howl of a storm, from footsteps in the snow to the joyful celebration of sunshine.

Do the Weather Mechanicals control the weather or does the weather control them? Conjuring up the slapstick humour of Laurel and Hardy, the Weather Machine will give you and your family a demonstration of their fantabulous contraption.

The Weather Machine was an Imagine Watford commission, supported using public funding by Arts Council of England.

“The Weather Machine… was absolutely charming. The way you incorporated teaching, climate change, care of the planet and fun was just brilliant! All the children (and adults) around were mesmerised.” Audience member, Latitude Festival

All ages welcome

weather machine tour

The release of the project's fourth studio album "Applecore" finally captures the rollicking energy, precision, and depth that Weather Machine live shows are known for. It will be a treat to any longtime fan or newcomer.

At first listen, the songs are fun. Tracks like "Protection" and "Boxes" contain cheeky musical reference to retro psychedelia, while also remaining grounded in catchy pop rhythms. Songs like "Uncle John" and "Applecore Part II" revel in the gaudy arena rock its creators grew up on.

Dig a little deeper though, and the songs become beautifully bittersweet. Beneath the surface, Applecore is thematically rooted in questions about the soul, as Slater Smith, the project's lead, examines his own connection to a late capitalist world that he sees as both shadowy and sparkling. The creative contradiction may be best summed up in the final words of the record:

"The world's gonna end, and when it does I want to be in it. In the dust and the rain and all of the negative space. And if the world's gonna end, I want to be here with you in it, and not in my head"

The Weather Machine Tickets

The weather machine concert tickets.

Get The Weather Machine tickets now to see an amazing performance live by a great entertainer. Pop-Rock music has an emphasis on recording craft and songwriting and not as much emphasis on attitude. Beginning in the 1950s as an alternative to rock and roll, early iterations of pop-rock were influenced by doo-wop and rock-and-roll arrangements and styles. Many traditionalists prefer rock and roll to the more slick, commercial production of pop-rock.

Some refer to the music as power pop with a similar sound and lyrical content. Pop-rock music has been very commercially successful using elements of rock music. Many describe it as an upbeat variety of rock music. The term pop comes from the early twentieth century referring to popular music. In the 1950s, it began to be referred to as a specific genre typically aimed at youth and young adults. It is frequently characterized as a softer alternative to rock and roll. ● July 12 – The CSO opens its 88th summer season at Ravinia with Alsop and two featured soloists, soprano Masabane Cecilia Rangwanasha* and pianist Michelle Cann.* In an evening of American music, the orchestra opens with Aaron Copland’s beloved classic Appalachian Spring followed by James P. Johnson’s Charleston, highlighting this early jazz piano leader’s influence and the iconic dance of the same name. Rangwanasha is in the spotlight for Samuel Barber’s evocative portrait of a small boy in the American South, Knoxville: Summer of 1915. The program wraps with a celebration of the 100th anniversary of George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, with Cann at the keyboard making her CSO debut. ● July 13 – South African cellist-composer Abel Selaocoe* joins Alsop and debuts with the CSO performing his Four Spirits, which “takes the concerto format to thrillingly unprecedented places” (Bachtrack). Themes of ancestral wisdom, faith, and community permeate the program, as the piece is put in perspective alongside Ludwig van Beethoven’s monumental Fifth Symphony and its distinct explorations of fate. ● July 19 – Conductor Ted Sperling joins the CSO with special guest vocalists to celebrate two iconic pop songwriters, Stevie Wonder and Paul Simon. ● July 20 – Alsop and the CSO take the stage for Gustav Mahler’s final major work for orchestra, Symphony No. 9. Voted as the greatest symphony of all-time in BBC Music 2 Magazine, the evening-long work has beguiled audiences since its 1912 premiere by Bruno Walter and the Vienna Philharmonic. ● July 21 – Winner of the gold medal at the International Chopin Competition and recipient of many esteemed prizes, Japanese pianist Hayato Sumino* reunites with Alsop and makes his Ravinia and CSO debuts performing Fryderyk Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 1. In the second half of the program, Alsop explores symphonic storytelling during the turn of the 19th century, leading the CSO in Richard Strauss’s tone poem Don Juan and Maurice Ravel’s choreographic symphony Daphnis et Chloé (Suite No. 2). ● July 25 – Mendelssohn's hit violin concerto, played by Augustin Hadelich^, is in the spotlight as Alsop leads the CSO. Also featured on the program are Bernstein’s joyous Symphonic Dances from West Side Story and Stravinsky's timeless Firebird Suite. Conductor Alena Hron , the 2024–26 Taki Alsop Fellow, guests on the podium to lead Geroge Walker’s Icarus in Orbit. ● July 26 – The centerpiece of Breaking Barriers 2024 is a space-themed concert complete with visuals and introductions by NASA specialists. Alsop conducts the orchestra in Holst’s The Planets, followed by a suite from Falkenberg’s The Moons Symphony. Audiences will see science come alive and hear from planetary scientists, including Astronaut Nicole Stott together with the composer, as they discuss how Falkenberg’s symphony offers new perspectives for humanity to contemplate our home in the cosmos. ● July 28 – Taki Alsop Conducting Fellowship alum Carolyn Kuan leads this year’s Tchaikovsky Spectacular, complete with Ravinia’s signature cannons in the 1812 Overture. Making her CSO debut, she opens the program with the complete music from the first act of The Nutcracker. Desirée Ruhstrat also makes her CSO debut as the soloist for the cherished Violin Concerto. ● August 2 – Conductor Valentina Peleggi, another TACF alum, returns to Ravinia and the CSO, following a guest appearance during last summer’s Breaking Barriers Festival, to join with esteemed pianist Jorge Federico Osorio on Beethoven’s “Emperor” Concerto. Peleggi will also lead Tchaikovsky’s Francesca da Rimini and Respighi’s Pines of Rome. ● August 4 – Music director, conductor, and arranger Kevin Stites explores the music of legendary performer and film composer Henry Mancini for the annual Gala Benefit Evening. Curated and hosted by actor Rob Lindley, “Mancini at 100: The Music of Henry Mancini, from the big screen, to the small screen, to the stage and beyond” features Broadway vocalists Jessie Mueller* (Waitress, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical), Norm Lewis* 3 (The Phantom of the Opera, Les Misérables), and Karen Mason* (Sunset Boulevard), with all three making their Ravinia and CSO debuts. ● August 9 & 11 – The CSO delves into operatic repertory as a semi-staging of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Idomeneo is conducted by Los Angeles Opera (and former Ravinia) Music Director James Conlon in the Martin Theatre. The work, set in Crete in 1200 BCE and telling a story from the Trojan War, shines light on a talented group of singers. Starring are tenor Matthew Polenzani as Greek king Idomeneo, soprano Andrea Carroll* as princess Ilia, and soprano Alexandria Shiner* as princess Elettra. ● August 10 – Conlon will lead an all-Mozart program with the CSO in the festival’s Pavilion between the opera performances. The program will feature both of the composer’s G-minor symphonies—the “little” No. 25, K. 183, and the “great” No. 40, K. 550—along with the Violin Concerto No. 5, welcoming James Ehnes as soloist on the violin. ● August 18 – Conductor Jonathan Rush, a frequent Ravinia guest in recent seasons and former assistant to Alsop, returns to the CSO podium. Chicago native Rachel Barton Pine takes the stage with Rush and the orchestra as the soloist for José White Lafitte’s Violin Concerto and Niccolò Paganini’s La Campanella

The last thing you want to hear is the horn on the golf course, but that’s precisely what fans at the 2024 RBC Heritage heard on Sunday. Twice.

The final round play at Harbour Town Golf Links in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina was suspended due to inclement weather at 4:28 p.m. ET. The final group featuring tournament leader Scottie Scheffler was in the fairway on the 11th hole when play was called.

On the CBS broadcast, the Tour’s Senior Director, TV rules and review analyst Mark Dusbabek made it clear that play was called due to lightning in the area and not because of the heavy rains that were falling. At 6:30 p.m. ET the final update came that play would resume at 7 p.m. ET, ending a two-and-a-half-hour delay. Less than an hour later at 7:47 p.m. ET the horn sounded to call play for the day due to darkness.

Nine players will return to the course at 8 a.m. ET Monday morning to finish he tournament. Scottie Scheffler, who has won three of his last four starts, holds a five-shot lead with three holes to play.

Moscow Metro

The Moscow Metro Tour is included in most guided tours’ itineraries. Opened in 1935, under Stalin’s regime, the metro was not only meant to solve transport problems, but also was hailed as “a people’s palace”. Every station you will see during your Moscow metro tour looks like a palace room. There are bright paintings, mosaics, stained glass, bronze statues… Our Moscow metro tour includes the most impressive stations best architects and designers worked at - Ploshchad Revolutsii, Mayakovskaya, Komsomolskaya, Kievskaya, Novoslobodskaya and some others.

What is the kremlin in russia?

The guide will not only help you navigate the metro, but will also provide you with fascinating background tales for the images you see and a history of each station.

And there some stories to be told during the Moscow metro tour! The deepest station - Park Pobedy - is 84 metres under the ground with the world longest escalator of 140 meters. Parts of the so-called Metro-2, a secret strategic system of underground tunnels, was used for its construction.

During the Second World War the metro itself became a strategic asset: it was turned into the city's biggest bomb-shelter and one of the stations even became a library. 217 children were born here in 1941-1942! The metro is the most effective means of transport in the capital.

There are almost 200 stations 196 at the moment and trains run every 90 seconds! The guide of your Moscow metro tour can explain to you how to buy tickets and find your way if you plan to get around by yourself.

Fun facts from our Moscow Metro Tours:

From the very first days of its existence, the Moscow Metro was the object of civil defense, used as a bomb shelter, and designed as a defense for a possible attack on the Soviet Union.

At a depth of 50 to 120 meters lies the second, the coded system of Metro-2 of Moscow subway, which is equipped with everything you need, from food storage to the nuclear button.

According to some sources, the total length of Metro-2 reaches over 150 kilometers.

The Museum was opened on Sportivnaya metro station on November 6, 1967. It features the most interesting models of trains and stations.

Coffee Ring

The first scheme of Moscow Metro looked like a bunch of separate lines. Listen to a myth about Joseph Stalin and the main brown line of Moscow Metro.

Zodiac Metro

According to some astrologers, each of the 12 stops of the Moscow Ring Line corresponds to a particular sign of the zodiac and divides the city into astrological sector.

Astrologers believe that being in a particular zadiac sector of Moscow for a long time, you attract certain energy and events into your life.

Paleontological finds

Red marble walls of some of the Metro stations hide in themselves petrified inhabitants of ancient seas. Try and find some!

  • Every day each car in  Moscow metro passes  more than 600 km, which is the distance from Moscow to St. Petersburg.

RBC Heritage: Final round suspended due to darkness, Monday finish underway at Harbour Town

Change Text Size

Updated: Monday, April 22, 8 a.m. ET: The final round of the RBC Heritage resumed at 8 a.m. ET.

Scheffler, chasing his fourth PGA TOUR win in five starts, authored a signature moment in the waning twilight Sunday, recovering from a hooked 4-iron second shot on the par-4 15th with a sorcerous wedge to 11 feet that he converted for an unlikely par to maintain a five-stroke lead over Wyndham Clark, Patrick Cantlay, J.T. Poston and Sahith Theegala.

Scheffler, chasing his fourth PGA TOUR win in five starts, stood 20 under for the tournament as the final round was suspended due to darkness at 7:45 p.m. Sunday, with nine players yet to complete the final round on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

This will be the second unscheduled Monday finish on the PGA TOUR this season and first since the Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches, won by Austin Eckroat. The AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, won by Wyndham Clark, was shortened to 54 holes after play was unable to be contested on Sunday and Monday.

Sunday’s play at Harbour Town was initially suspended at 4:28 p.m. due to lightning in the area. The final pairing of Scheffler and Sepp Straka had completed 11 holes at the time. Players were removed from the course, with the delay ultimately lasting 2 hours and 32 minutes before play resumed at 7 p.m.

Scottie Scheffler's masterful par save at RBC Heritage

Updated: Sunday, April 21, 7 p.m. ET: The final round of the RBC Heritage resumes at 7 p.m. ET.

Updated: Sunday, April 21, 6:30 p.m. ET: The final round of the RBC Heritage will resume at 7 p.m. ET.

Updated: Sunday, April 21, 5:40 p.m. ET: The final round of the RBC Heritage will not resume at 6 p.m. ET.

Updated: Sunday, April 21, 5:28 p.m. ET: The final round of the RBC Heritage is scheduled to resume at 6 p.m. ET.

Updated: Sunday, April 21, 4:28 p.m. ET: The RBC Heritage’s final round has been suspended due to lightning in the area, with the final groups playing the back nine Sunday at Harbour Town Golf Links.

Play was suspended at 4:28 p.m. local time, with leader Scottie Scheffler playing the 12th hole. Players were taken off the course at the time of suspension.

Scheffler began the final round at 16 under, one stroke clear of Sepp Straka, and the world No. 1 turned in 3-under 33 with a chip-in eagle at the par-5 second, a two-putt birdie at the par-5 fifth and seven pars. Scheffler stood 19 under, four strokes clear of the field at the time of delay. Seven players stood 15 under.

“We were hoping to play through this; we felt like we had another 25 minutes left of this heavy rain and were then going to get a break on the back end,” said Mark Dusbabek, the PGA TOUR’s senior director lead TV Rules & Video Analyst, on the CBS broadcast. “We had lightning unfortunately pop up 4 miles away; just suddenly caught us in, so we had to stop play for this. We’re going to see how things go here and make a decision.

"The course was not unplayable. It wasn't because of the rain. It was just because the lightning popped up."

The final round of the RBC Heritage is poised to deliver fans a fantastic finish, but that might not come without a little bit of weather late in the day.

After the first three rounds of tournament golf at Harbour Town Golf Links were accompanied by sunshine and temperatures ranging from the upper 70s into the mid-80s, Sunday could bring golfers a different challenge to navigate as the tournament comes to a close.

According to the forecast, a cold front will be slowly moving southward into the Hilton Head Island area on Sunday, increasing the chances for showers and a few thunderstorms as play gets into the early to mid-afternoon hours and continuing into the evening hours. Storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rainfall. Otherwise, Sunday morning will remain dry with temperatures warming into the mid to upper 70s before falling into the 60s late in the day. Light wind Sunday morning will increase out of the north 10-15 gusting to 20-25 mph late in the day.

The final pairing of the day, Scottie Scheffler and Sepp Straka, are set to tee off at 1:55 p.m. ET. Scheffler holds a one-stroke lead at 16-under.

As I go, I’ll score each one, and tell readers a little bit about the shop itself.)
